    INTRODUCTION

    In 2009, a new generation of Kia Cerato, known in Europe and the United States as the Kia Forte, was shown at the Chicago Auto Show. New car built on the new Hyundai-Kia front-wheel drive platform (it will also form the basis for the next generation Hyundai elantra). The exterior of the new Cerato (which dealers call Cerato New) was created under the leadership of European Peter Schreier, the current chief designer of Kia, who previously worked with VW and Audi. Perhaps this is why the car is not like other Asian cars. However, the Cerato New is still not a European car, because when it comes to the popular golf class, Western Europe chooses hatchbacks and station wagons, and Kia has filled this niche with versions of the Cee’d model. Fans of sedans, among others, are the residents of the United States, on which the two-door modification of the KIA Cerato Koup, which appeared a little later, is primarily focused on.

    The spacious two-tone interior looks rich and matches the exterior. The build quality and interior trim materials are excellent. Comfortable steering wheel with buttons remote control the audio system, the controls located in their places, as well as large instruments with bright illumination make driving comfortable and pleasant.

    Thanks to the fact that Cerato New has added 40 mm in width and base, three passengers can comfortably fit in the back seat in the cabin.

    Cerato New is at the height and practicality. The already roomy trunk (415 liters) can be increased by folding the backrest of the rear seat in parts.

    Ruler power units the new Kia Cerato New / Forte is represented by two gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters and a capacity of 126 and 156 hp, respectively. For the American market, the Kia Forte is also offered with a 2.4 liter engine.
    All engines can be equipped with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. A five-speed gearbox is offered for the American market.
    The MacPherson strut front suspension is unified with the Cee’d hatchbacks, but the rear Cerato New does not have a multi-link design, but a simpler semi-independent with a twisted beam.
    As standard, the vehicle is equipped with a hydraulic booster, front disc and rear drum brakes. On request, you can order an electric booster and disc rear brakes.
    New Kia Cerato New is offered in 11 colors and three possible trim levels: LX, EX and SX. Basic configuration includes ABS, dual front airbags, leather steering wheel, power windows, electric drive and heated outside mirrors, heated rear window, air conditioning, MP3 audio system, USB-port, 15-inch steel wheels and a spare spare wheel. The steering column in the basic configuration is adjustable only in height, and the reach adjustment is available only in more expensive modifications.

    In addition, more expensive configurations offer ESP, side airbags and curtain airbags, climate control, fog lights, light sensor, heated front seats, parking sensors, sunroof, leather trim, cruise control, door unlocking and keyless engine start - buttons, 17-inch alloy disks.
    High build quality, reliability, economy, modern design and practicality for a reasonable price make the Kia Cerato / Forte the ideal car for everyday use.
    This manual provides instructions for the operation and repair of all modifications of the Kia Cerato New / Forte, as well as the Kia Cerato Koup / Forte Koup, manufactured since 2010.

INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING (IF PRESENT)

With included side lights and headlights, rotate the illumination control knob to set the brightness of the instrument panel illumination.

The brightness of the instrument panel illumination (type B) can be adjusted by turning this knob in any position of the headlamp switch when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

SPEEDOMETER

The speedometer shows the vehicle speed. It is labeled in metric units (km / h).

TACHOMETER

The tachometer shows the approximate speed of the vehicle's engine in revolutions per minute (rpm). Use a tachometer to the right choice the moments of gear shifting to prevent the unstable operation of the engine or its operation at an increased speed. When the ignition key is turned to the "BATTERY" (ACC) or "ON" (ON) position with the engine off (OFF), a slight movement of the tachometer needle is possible. This is normal and does not affect the accuracy of the tachometer when the engine is running.

ATTENTION
The engine is not allowed to operate at a frequency corresponding to the red zone of the tachometer. This can cause serious engine damage.

FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR

The fuel gauge shows the approximate fuel level in the fuel tank. In addition to the fuel gauge, the vehicle is equipped with control lamp low level fuel that ignites when fuel tank almost empty. On slopes or curved road sections, movement of fuel in the tank may cause the fuel gauge needle to wobble. In this case, the low fuel level indicator lamp can blink or start to burn constantly ahead of time.

ATTENTION
Fuel level indicator.
Running out of fuel can endanger people in the vehicle. After the low fuel level indicator light comes on, or the arrow on the fuel gauge approaches the 0 / E point, you must stop as soon as possible to refuel.
ATTENTION
Avoid driving if the fuel level is very low. Lack of fuel can misfire and overload the catalytic converter.

The odometer indicates the total distance that the vehicle has traveled. It can also be helpful in determining when periodic maintenance is due.

Note
It is prohibited to interfere with the operation of the odometer on any car with the intention of changing the value of its mileage recorded on the odometer. Doing so may void your vehicle's warranty.
The quantity full run is displayed continuously unless the display is turned off.

ON-BOARD COMPUTER (IF AVAILABLE)

On-board computer is a microprocessor-based information system that, when the ignition is on, displays driving data such as total and current mileage, fuel supply, average speed, driving time and average fuel consumption. All stored driving information (excluding fuel capacity and current fuel consumption) is reset when the battery is disconnected.

Briefly press the "TRIP" button (holding it for less than one second) to select one of the following functions:

TRAVEL ODOMETER

In this mode, the display shows the distance that the vehicle has traveled since the last trip odometer was reset.

The working range of the pointer readings: from 0.0 to 999.9 km. Holding down the "TRIP" button for more than one second when the display is in the mileage display mode (TRIP A or TRIP B) will reset the trip odometer (0.0).

DISTANCE WHICH A CAR CAN TRAVEL WITH THE AVAILABLE STOCK OF FUEL IN THE TANK (KM)

In this mode, the on-board computer shows the estimated distance that the car can drive with the available fuel in the tank, based on the data on the amount of fuel in the tank and fuel consumption. If the value of this indicator is less than 50 km, an empty line (-) will appear on the display, and the indicator will start flashing. The working range of the pointer readings: from 50 to 999 km.

AVERAGE FUEL CONSUMPTION (L / 100 KM)

In this mode, the on-board computer calculates average consumption fuel based on the amount of fuel consumed and the distance traveled since the last time the readings were reset. The value of the total fuel consumed is determined based on the fuel consumption data received by the computer. Optimal calculation accuracy is achieved when driving over a distance of more than 50 m. Holding the "TRIP" button pressed for more than one second when the display is in the average fuel consumption display mode will reset the readings (---).

CURRENT FUEL CONSUMPTION (IF OPTIONAL) (L / 100 KM)

This mode calculates the current fuel consumption over the last few seconds.

AVERAGE SPEED (KM / HOUR)

This mode is used to determine average speed vehicle movement since the last time the readings were reset. Even if the vehicle is stationary, the average speed continues to count as long as the engine is running. Holding down the "TRIP" button for more than one second when the display is in the average speed display mode will clear the reading (---).

TRAVEL TIME

In this mode, the display shows the total time the vehicle has been on the road since the last time the readings were reset. Even if the vehicle is stationary, the driving time continues as long as the engine is running. The working range of the pointer readings is from 0:00 to 99:59. Holding down the "TRIP" button for more than one second when the display is in the travel time display mode will clear the reading (0:00).

Note
If the vehicle is on an uneven surface or if the battery has been disconnected, the function of determining the distance that the vehicle can travel with the available fuel in the tank may not work accurately. The on-board computer may not take into account refueling if the volume of the filled fuel was less than 6 liters.
Fuel consumption (if equipped) and the distance that the vehicle can drive with the available fuel in the tank may vary depending on driving conditions, driving mode and vehicle condition.
The distance a vehicle can travel with the available fuel in the tank is an estimate of the distance that the vehicle can actually travel. This value may differ from the actual value of the possible mileage.

CONTROL AND INDICATOR LAMPS

When the ignition key is turned to the ON position, the serviceability of all warning lamps is checked (do not start the engine while doing this). Any lamp that fails to light should be checked by an authorized KIA dealer. After starting the engine, check that all warning lamps have gone out. If any of them remain lit, this indicates a situation that requires attention. For example, when unlocking parking brake the parking brake warning lamp should go out. The low fuel level warning lamp will continue to illuminate if the fuel supply is insufficient.

AIRBAG CONTROL LAMP (IF EQUIPPED)

This indicator light comes on for about six seconds each time the ignition key is turned to the ON position. This lamp also comes on if there is a malfunction in the airbag system. If this lamp does not come on or remains lit after 6 seconds after turning the ignition key to ON or starting the engine, or if it comes on while the vehicle is in motion, have an authorized KIA dealer check the status of the airbag system.

ANTI LOCK BRAKE (ABS) MONITOR LAMP (IF PRESENT)

This lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes out after about three seconds if the system is working properly. If this lamp continues to burn after turning on the ignition, lights up while driving, or does not light up after turning on the ignition, this indicates possible malfunction ABS systems. In such a situation, contact an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible to check the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle's braking system will continue to function, but without anti-lock braking system support.

ELECTRONIC BRAKE DISTRIBUTION DISTRIBUTION (EBD)

If, while driving, two warning lamps light up at the same time, the car is faulty and ABS system, and the EBD system. In such a case, the ABS system and the main braking system may not operate normally. Contact an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible to check the condition of the vehicle.

ATTENTION
If the anti-lock braking system and the brake system malfunction indicators illuminate at the same time, the vehicle's braking system will not function properly when braking suddenly. In this case, driving at high speed and heavy braking should be avoided. Contact an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible to check the condition of the vehicle.
Note
If the ABS or EBD warning lamp comes on and remains on, it may indicate a malfunction of the speedometer or trip odometer / odometer. In such a situation, it is necessary to contact an authorized dealer of the K \ A company as soon as possible to check the condition of the vehicle.

SAFETY BELTS WARNING

As a warning to the driver, this indicator light will flash for approximately six seconds each time the ignition key is turned to the ON position, whether the seat belts are on or not.

As a warning to the driver, this indicator light will flash for approximately six seconds each time the ignition key is turned to the ON position, whether the seat belts are on or not. If the driver's seat belt is unfastened after turning the ignition key to the ON position, this warning lamp will flash for about six seconds. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition key is turned ON, or if it is unfastened after the ignition key is turned ON, the warning buzzer unfastened seat belt security will work for about six seconds. At the same time, if you fasten your seat belt, the buzzer will stop working.

As a reminder to the driver, the driver's seat warning light comes on approximately six seconds after each ignition is switched on, whether the seat belt is fastened or not. If, before turning on the ignition, the driver has not fastened his seat belt, and also if he unfastened it after turning on the ignition, the seat belt warning lamp comes on and remains on until the seat belt is fastened.

If, with the driver's seat belt not fastened, the speed exceeds 9 km / h, the constant mode of turning on the warning lamp will change to flashing, which will remain until the speed drops below 6 km / h. If the speed exceeds 20 km / h with the driver's seat belt not fastened, a warning signal (bell) will sound for 100 seconds, accompanied by a flashing of the seat belt warning lamp.

TURN INDICATORS

Flashing green arrows on the dashboard show the direction shown by the direction indicators. If such an arrow lights up but does not blink; flashes more often than usual or does not light up at all, this indicates a malfunction of the direction indicator system. To fix it, contact an authorized dealer. The pointer also starts flashing when the warning switch is on.

HIGH BEAM CONTROL LAMP

This lamp lights up when the headlights are switched to high beam or when they are switched on for a short time. high beam using the turn signal control knob.

LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE CONTROL LAMP

This lamp indicates low pressure in the engine lubrication system. If it lights up while the vehicle is moving:

This indicator shows the position of the shift lever automatic box gear.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE CHECK LAMP (IF PRESENT)

The coolant temperature warning lamp operates with the ignition key in the ON position. If the coolant temperature exceeds 120 ± 3 ° C, the lamp lights up red. If the coolant temperature is less than 55 ± 3 ° C, the lamp lights up blue. Do not drive with an overheated engine. If engine overheating occurs frequently, read the Overheating section alphabetically.

Note
When the red coolant temperature warning light comes on, the engine is overheating and can damage it.

When the electronic key is in the vehicle, when the engine start / stop button is moved to the ACC (Accessory) or ON position, the warning lamp comes on and stays on until the engine is started. If there is no electronic key in the car, when the engine start / stop button is pressed, the warning lamp will flash for a few minutes, reminding that you will not be able to start the engine.

If the engine start / stop button is toggled from the "ACC" position to the "ON" position with no electronic key in the vehicle, the indicator will flash for several minutes to indicate that the engine cannot be started.

In case of low battery level battery When the engine start / stop button is pressed, the warning lamp will flash and you will not be able to start the engine. In this case, you will still be able to start the engine by placing the electronic key in the holder. In the presence of malfunctions of parts associated with the electronic key system, the indicator lamp flashes.

LOW FUEL LEVEL CONTROL LAMP

This lamp indicates that the vehicle's fuel tank is almost empty. In such a situation, it is necessary to refuel the vehicle as soon as possible. Continuing to drive with the low fuel level warning lamp on, or when the fuel gauge needle is below the "0" mark, may result in a misfire in the engine cylinder and damage to the catalytic converter (if equipped).

ENGINE FAULT MONITORING LAMP

This warning lamp is part of the engine management system that monitors the status of various components of the emission control system. If this lamp comes on while the vehicle is moving, this indicates a possible malfunction in this system. In addition, this lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and then goes out a few seconds after starting the engine. If it comes on while the vehicle is moving, or does not come on after turning the ignition key to the ON position, contact your nearest authorized KIA dealer to check the system status. In general, the vehicle may be moving, but you must immediately contact an authorized KIA dealer to check the status of the system.

ATTENTION
Prolonged driving with the emission control system malfunction indicator illuminated may damage the emission control system components, which will affect the vehicle's performance and / or fuel consumption.
If this lamp comes on, it indicates the possibility of damage to the catalytic converter, resulting in a loss of engine power. Have an authorized KIA dealer check the engine management system as soon as possible.

This warning lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and should go out within about three seconds. When ESP system enabled, it monitors the driving conditions of the vehicle. If conditions are normal, the warning lamp for this system is off. When entering slippery road surface or when the grip of the tires decreases with the road, the ESP system starts to work. At the same time, its indicator lamp starts blinking, informing about the operation of this system.

This lamp comes on when the cruise control system is activated. The cruise control indicator on the instrument panel comes on when you press the cruise control ON-OFF button on the steering wheel. When you press the cruise control ON-OFF button again, the indicator goes out.

Cruise control SET warning lamp

This lamp comes on when the cruise control function switches (- / SET or RES / +) are moved. The "SET" cruise control indicator lamp on the instrument panel lights up when the cruise control switches (- / SET or RES / +) are pressed. This lamp does not come on when the cruise control CANCEL switch is pressed or when the cruise control system is turned off.

BUZZER OF REMINDER ON THE PRESENCE OF THE KEY IN THE IGNITION LOCK (IF THE OPTION IS AVAILABLE)

If you open the driver's door with a key in the ignition switch (in the ACC or LOCK position), the corresponding buzzer starts working. This is to prevent the keys from being left in a locked vehicle. It works until the key is removed from the ignition switch or the driver's door is closed.

ELECTRIC STEERING WARNING LAMP (EPS) (IF INCLUDED)

This warning lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes out after starting the engine. This lamp also lights up when there is a problem with the EPS system. If it lights up while the vehicle is moving, have an authorized KIA dealer check the vehicle.

The Korean car industry, as you know, has long conquered almost all markets in the world. And, of course, one of the Kia models brought its zest to this conquest - this is the KIA Cerato. This car was not originally conceived as a top-class car and is designed for the average consumer, which accordingly affected the quality and durability of individual components and assemblies. Therefore, like other cars of this class, Kia Cerato, unfortunately, has a number of weaknesses, diseases and shortcomings that every future buyer needs to know about.

Weaknesses of the 2nd generation Kia Cerate

  • Rear springs;
  • The tensioner and the timing chain itself for cars with a 1.6 liter engine;
  • Solenoid relay;
  • Clutch release bearing;
  • Steering rack;
  • Water pump and thermostat.

Now in more detail ...

Rear springs.

We can say that the springs on the Kia Cerate are one of the weak points. They are not at all designed for the weight carried in the stern (rear passengers and cargo in the trunk) of the car. Accordingly, during frequent trips with a loaded rear of the car, the rear springs tend to sag or, in the worst cases, simply break. When inspecting a car before buying, it is imperative to pay attention to this nuance.

Timing chain tensioner for vehicles with 1.6 liter engine.

The timing chain is a fairly serious element of any car that requires constant maintenance and inspection. But in addition to the state of the chain, in any case, it is necessary to periodically check its tension, and accordingly the tensioner is responsible for the tension of the timing chain. It is through the fault of the tensioner and the stretching of the chain itself that an unpleasant phenomenon can occur - this is a jump of the teeth and, accordingly, a possible meeting of valves with pistons. Before buying, it is imperative to check the tension of the chain, or otherwise you will have to change it, but it changes, as a rule, together with the tensioner and it will cost more than a penny. The characteristic sign of a loose chain is the "diesel" sound of the engine running.

Solenoid relay.

The retractor relay is another of Kiy Cerato's sores. Of course, we can say that this is a design miscalculation, but you need to know about this before buying. The essence of the problem is that the grease in the solenoid relay is in winter time thickens significantly and, accordingly, it is difficult to start the engine. Therefore, this car is not fully adapted to the severe Russian frosts.

Release bearing on vehicles with manual transmission.

No less common Kia problem Cerate is release bearing clutch. The essence of the problem is that very often the owners of Cerato struggle with the whistle of this bearing. And, unfortunately, until now there is no effective way out of the situation with the whistling of the bearing. Replacing or treating the surface with a special lubricant can help, but it is important to know that this will help, but not for long. When checking the car, this can be noticed, but in the future it will not be possible to eliminate the whistle for a long time. This can also be attributed to a design defect.

Steering rack.

If, for example, the resource of the steering rack of many cars is about 100 thousand km. mileage, the KIA Cerato has two or even more times less. Knocks and leaks of the rail can appear even when the car runs within 40-50 thousand km. after the last replacement or repair. Typical signs of a rack malfunction are knocks on the steering wheel when driving over bumps or in place when the steering wheel is rotated.

On the cooling system.

Considering that the 2nd generation Cerato has not been produced for three years already, the average mileage of the currently sold car will be from 60 to 110 thousand km. Consequently, within this range, the thermostat and pump may need to be replaced. It is important to note that these mechanisms are not weak points, but it is necessary to pay attention to this.

Disadvantages of KIA Cerato 2008-2013 model year

  1. Weak insulation;
  2. Low clearance;
  3. Hard plastic interior;
  4. Rigid suspension;
  5. Crickets in the cabin after a run of 20 thousand km;
  6. Some ergonomic miscalculations.

Output.

In conclusion, I would like to remind the saying that due to the shortcomings this car"every man to his own taste". But it all depends on the individual requirements of the owner and on the cars previously driven by him. But it's important to know that Kia Cerate is not a favorite. positive sides among its competitors of other brands and models. The most important thing when buying this car is, in addition to the above-described weaknesses, to thoroughly check all the systems, components and assemblies of the purchased car yourself, or, ideally, at a car service.

P.S: Dear present and future owners, do not forget to describe your second generation Kia Cerato in the comments, indicating sore spots and shortcomings!

    A very useful article. Indeed, almost all problem areas lighted. Add, if only, anther bumpers that rattle in the cold. Just changed the retractor relay. (Kia Cerato, 2009, 108,000 km. run).

  2. Alexey

    Kia serato2, 2012 mileage 110 t.km
    The starter retractor relay has recently failed.
    changed the stabilizer rods by 60 thousand.
    "Crickets" settled in the stove,
    I remembered the front pads by almost 100 thousand. That's all for now!
    scored on the officials after the first MOT, bullshit guarantee.
    I change the oil after 10 thousand. The rest is according to the regulations.

  3. Alexey

    The disadvantages include a very large turning radius (due to the small twist of the wheels).

  4. Yuliya

    Kia Serato, 2011, 90,000 km. Passed 6 TO. I disagree with Alexey, the steering rack was changed for 40 thousand km under warranty. During the operation of the car, nothing really broke. Of the little things, if only: the buttons on the steering wheel jam, the handbrake, well, probably that's all. I am very happy with the car, I am not a racer, the equipment is luxurious, there is just enough. I change the oil every 10 thousand km. The trunk is really big, but you can't load it so much, since the springs are weak. A friend did just that, the spring burst. And since the car is good, I recommend it.

  5. Denis

    Mileage 160000km. in the car except brake discs nothing changed, and put the spacers on the rear springs. I'm happy with the car.

  6. Peter

    Cerate 1.6 manual transmission 2011 mileage 117 thousand km. changed only the air conditioning compressor (factory defect). 100 thousand replacement links (consumable). THAT according to the regulations is not at the OD. I think all the positions listed in the article can be attributed to any car. The car is reliable and not whimsical.

  7. Cons

    Serato 2011, 1600, 6MKPP, mileage 240,000km. For the first 20,000 I stopped recognizing the key (replacement of the immobilizer under warranty). 50,000 replacement of the front struts (put some Chinese, cheap, go to this day). 100,000 oil change in the box (just changed). 110,000 front pads (this is in Moscow!). 160,000 replacement levers. 180,000 the gas pump was covered (a simple Boshevsky motor for 1.8 tr was supplied). 190,000 partially went through the chassis (thrust bearings, bones, tips, rear shock absorbers and little things (eg, the rear pads are native)). 230,000 have ceased to buzz headlights. I don’t want to go to the OD, but for some reason the self-made women cannot understand where the electricity went to them. It's just that I haven't done it yet - I've been driving 10,000 already (the left headlight shines normally, the right one shines “for myself.” 240,000 I'm going to change the timing chain, but there are no particular signs of wear. In general, I am satisfied, a normal workhorse.

  8. Alexander

    Cerato 2012. 6vrgg / 1.6 / mileage 60000. Didn't change anything, some consumables. Satisfied with the car, no crickets. I think to go to the lift - there was a small knock, it looks like a rail. I changed 3 times the bulbs. I put the spacers, I got up, it’s better to ride in the pits. Good luck to everyone and great personal happiness.

  9. Denis

    To all good day! I own a 2010 Kia Cerate (Korean). During the operation since 2012 (in my hands) I bought 34,000 km with a mileage, today the mileage is 152,000 km. For all the time, I changed the timing twice and everything that comes with it. The steering rack is in excellent condition. Everything else is consumables (brake pads, silent blocks, anti-roll bar struts, shock absorbers in a circle with new springs). Replacement internal combustion engine oils in 5-7 thousand. All other slurries according to the regulations. That seems to be all !!! V common car I do not experience any special problems.
