What to do in order not to bend the valve. On what engines does the VAZ not bend the valve? Full list. Valve bending: what are the reasons and how to prevent Machines not bending the valve

In the fall of 2015, the LAD family of passenger cars was replenished with the top model - the Vesta car, produced in the sedan body. When asking the question "does the valve bend on the Lada Vesta", you need to clearly imagine what kind of engine we are talking about: about a 1.6-liter Russian or a Nissan, or maybe about the latest VAZ development with the name "21179".

Here options are considered that are related to cars that are being produced now or those that will begin to be produced in the near future. Also, an 8-valve engine was developed for Vesta - it definitely does not bend the valves and will definitely not be installed on top sedans in 2016.

Read more about the engines that the Lada Vesta line is equipped with in the material: !

ICE VAZ-21129, 106 "forces" (valve bends)

Under the hood of a 106-strong Lada Vesta

A bit of history. Motor 21129 is a modified version of another engine, namely, 21127. The last of them, when the timing belt broke, successfully bent its valves, although grooves were made on the pistons (Fig. 1). The point is that the depth of the grooves was not sufficient: when certain conditions were met, the valve "met" the piston with all the ensuing consequences.

With the transition to a new generation of internal combustion engines, that is, to 21129, the design of the pistons was finalized. But the external shape has not changed much, and although the notches remain, their depth is still insufficient.

Here the question was considered whether the Lada Vesta valve with the "21129" engine is bending. And the answer was unequivocal: yes, oppression.

In theory, the problem with the bending of the valves is typical for all VAZ engines equipped with 4 valves per cylinder. Each new 16-valve "inherits" it. An exception is one rarity - the VAZ-2112 ICE, the volume of which is 1.6 liters. There the notches were made to the fullest (Fig. 2).

122-horsepower motor "21179" (valve bends)

By its design, the VAZ-21179 internal combustion engine does not differ much from its predecessors. The working volume was increased to 1774 ml, which was achieved by changing the piston stroke length: from 75.6 mm to 84.0 mm.

Elements of the connecting rod-piston group

The piston itself is now fitted to the cylinder better than in the 21127 and 21129 engines. The distance from the piston pin to the piston crown has increased by 1.3 mm to 26.7 mm. But deeper grooves in the bottom did not appear. The timing mechanism still drives the belt, and when it breaks, no one canceled the ability to bend the valves.

Now we know whether the valves are bending on the Lada Vesta with a 1.8-liter engine. The answer will be the same as for all 16-valve VAZ internal combustion engines (with the exception of 2112). The problem with the transition to a new generation remains the same. And they do not intend to return to the "heavy" pistons at the VAZ.

The timing drive on 21179 engines is equipped with not one, but two tension rollers. What has been done to make the structure less susceptible to timing belt stretching.

It says here: the number of idler rollers is two

One of the automatic tensioners can jam, but then its function will be taken over by the second automatic roller.

Pistons that do not bend the valve

Piston kits for some "old" 16-valve valves are available from third-party companies. These parts are supplied with deep grooves. The point is that the piston does not reach the plates and cannot bend the valves.

Tuning piston for internal combustion engine 21126-21127

ShPG elements of different engines (21127, 21129, 21179) are compatible. But it is not necessary to install pistons from "old engines" into Vesta's engine:

  • In the internal combustion engine 21129 after such "tuning" friction losses will increase;
  • If the pistons from the 26th or 27th engine are installed in the ICE 21179, the working volume will immediately change.

"29th", as well as "79th" engine Lada Vesta bends valves only with "VAZ" pistons. But after installing a "tuning" part, do not expect an increase in power. And also, using non-standard elements, you can greatly reduce the resource (lose the warranty, get unforeseen consequences).

Nissan HR16DE engine (not oppression, there is a chain)

Disassembled HR16DE engine

No "deep grooves" are provided here. Now let's pay attention to how the timing mechanism works.

Nothing but gears and chains

There is no toothed belt here - it is replaced by a chain. It is difficult to imagine the following two situations:

  • The chain could jump over the teeth of one or more gears;
  • One of the elements was damaged so badly that the damage caused it to rupture.

As long as the chain remains intact, valves and pistons cannot meet each other, no matter what happens to the engine. The only bad thing is that the chain can jam.

Is the Lada Vesta valve bending with a Nissan ICE? The answer "no" would be wrong - breaking the circuit is not ruled out. But in reality, it will be almost impossible to face such a situation. Let's see why.

Four well-known facts

The resource indicator for the timing chain always exceeds the engine life. This is the first fact, but the condition must be fulfilled: the oil change must be timely. In general, the chain breaks down gradually, and this is accompanied by symptoms:

  • Audible overtones (chirping) at idle;
  • At the time of the passage of the "problem area", a phase shift may be observed.

The last defect is detected using computer diagnostics.

It takes a certain amount of time from the appearance of any symptom to the complete breaking of the circuit. And in general, a "defective circuit" can work for a long time. This was another, fourth fact.

The consequences of a broken timing belt, an example in the video

A rather relevant question, on which VAZ engines does not bend the valve, will probably interest every car owner from a legendary domestic manufacturer - old or new - without much difference. The fear of a belt breaking in some drivers even turns into a kind of paranoia: they begin to carry a spare belt with them, study the state of the worker at every opportunity, consult with all friends and acquaintances who have anything to do with the car business. But can such actions always lead to the planned result?

On which VAZ engines does not bend the valve, you need to know for sure, and this data will strengthen you in understanding: will you have to repair, apart from replacing the belt when it breaks, the engine? After all, this procedure can take a lot of effort and, most importantly, money.

A bit of history

It is not difficult to remember engine modifications on models. But all in order! The first were 8-valve engines (1.5 and 1.6 liters). The valve did not bent on them. And all - for a simple reason: the pistons in the intended design did not occur in the event of an incident with valves.

The developers have bypassed the potential problem quite well, honor and praise for it (how many this feature saved from unplanned and rather expensive repairs)! A little later, a new motor for those times.

With all the improvements and increased horsepower up to 92(from 76), which was a clear plus, this motor also had some, not immediately noticeable shortcomings. The design of the mechanism has been changed thanks to a new head (16-valve). And as a bonus - the meeting of the pistons with the valves in the event of a break in the timing (at the most inopportune moment, as a rule)!

As a result- the valves are bent on this model unambiguously. And the car owner was expected by quite expensive repairs, which cost a pretty penny. The reason, in addition to breaking the belt, is simple - the very design of a 1.5-liter engine with 16 valves: the pistons do not have special under-valve recesses and, as a result, they hit the valves hard. There is a bend of these parts, popularly called: the valve is bent.

Correcting errors: But now a few years have passed, and the designers have revised their concept. At 2112, they began to mount new 1.6-liter engines, also 16-valve ones. In these modifications, little has changed from the previous ones, but there were recesses for valves on the pistons, which made it possible to avoid the meeting of these parts in the event of a belt break, and therefore expensive repairs.

All repeats

Not so many years have passed, the happy owners of these VAZ models have already begun to get used to the good. Besides, when the belts break, the valves on the engine do not bend, injuring it from the inside. But it was not there! The domestic auto industry does not allow you to relax even for a minute. The Priora (updated ten) appears on the horizon, a seemingly modern machine, quite decent for many. Engine - 1.6 liters, 16 valves. Motorists thought that such annoying flaws would not happen to him.

However, as practice has shown, if the belt breaks on the Priora, the valve still bends (that is, they also meet with pistons, as on the very original 16-valve mechanisms). And who needs it, one wonders: an additional fix for the present times, costing a pretty penny? After all, the repair of the Prior's engine will cost even more than that of the usual dozen.

One good thing is that the likelihood of such a flaw is still reduced by the designers to a minimum: the belt is much wider and it does not break so often. But sometimes it breaks! Or, for example, a defective spare part may come across, and the likelihood of a rush will increase significantly. What to do then? We'll have to repair the engine, and not just install a new belt. Because it is not possible to predict when this may happen with hidden defects.

It remains only to make a wish so that this breakdown does not occur somewhere in an open field, where cars do not pass often, but in the city with the ability to tow your car.

By the way, on Kalina they also install engines similar to the methods of destructive action on the valves, only 1.4 liters (16 valve). So, as they say, be vigilant and know: on which VAZ engines does not bend the valve, and on which - bends! There you will have to constantly monitor and check the condition of the belt and take preventive measures to prevent timing breaks.

The automotive industry knows thousands of engine options that are not very pleasant to operate. In particular, on such power units, when the timing belt breaks, the valves are bent, which meet with the pistons in a chaotic inertial motion. The bending of the valves will have to be treated by replacing them, as well as by rebuilding the entire upper part of the engine. It will cost the owner of even an inexpensive domestic car more than 15,000 rubles. Therefore, if there is such an opportunity, it is better to choose power units in which the valves do not bend when the belt breaks. Today we will consider domestic developments in the field of engines for cars. It turns out that in this regard, the engines on domestic cars were quite adequate. Many of them did not know such a problem as bent valves for various problems.

In general, AvtoVAZ has designed quite interesting power units. Yes, most of them had less potential and consumed a lot of fuel. But in fact, it turned out that the engines did not require any maintenance at all. They just served for years without causing any problems or negative situations. In many units, they did not even change the oil, pouring 30-40 thousand cheap mineral water once, which could be obtained during the Soviet Union. So it is not worth scolding the engines of the first VAZ models, up to VAZ 2108 and 2109. It turns out that this was the best time for the domestic auto industry, which showed the maximum potential and the minimum of problems in use.

VAZ engines from 2101 to 2106

Often, VAZ used the simplest technologies in old cars. The developments of the 70s of the last century served in fact until recently, because the latest version of 2106 was taken out of production just a few years ago. It is very interesting that there were engines throughout the entire range of these cars, which received many important advantages in operation:

  • power units often had 8 valves, as well as places for folding them in case of problems;
  • the timing belt or chain was of quite high quality, it went 50-60 thousand kilometers (or more than 200 in the case of a chain);
  • the engines worked in all weather conditions without problems, received a lot of positive feedback from experts;
  • some export cars have become popular in highly civilized countries around the world.

At the time of development of each of the VAZ cars in the range of 2101 - 2106, the transport was simply amazingly good. Even today, after 40 years from the release of some models, you can find cars in the secondary market with engines that will never bend the valve, and other problems are not terrible for the power unit. These are the features of the old VAZ developments.

VAZ 2107 engines with timing chain

Most of the VAZ 2107 power units, including all the latest engine modifications, had special timing chains, which serve quite adequately and do not fail for years. You can drive about 200-250 thousand kilometers on one circuit, then replace it simply because the motorist's conscience began to remind of maintenance.

It is important to remember that if the chain starts to give out some unpleasant sounds, it should be changed at that very moment. But even if the chain breaks, most modifications of the VAZ 2107 engine will not cause the valves to bend. Therefore, the owner of this car can be completely calm about the safety of the engine of his car.

VAZ 2108 and VAZ 2109 - a whole era in Russian cars

Hatchbacks, which were popularly called "Chisels", gained fame as reliable and durable cars, they were produced until our time, for several years they were assembled in Ukraine, but have completely lost the relevance of their appearance and technology. Today you can buy on the secondary market an excellent version of the "Nine" of a completely fresh year of release in perfect condition. The engine in this car has the following features:

  • there were in the history of the model a power unit for 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 liters with a carburetor, as well as a 1.5-liter injection unit;
  • all engines were protected from the influence of the timing belt rupture, the valves in the power unit did not bend;
  • the car had quite adequate engine reliability - this unit was the last one to break down in the car;
  • all competitors presented at one time were scattered with advanced design, excellent comfort and other benefits.

At the very beginning of its production, VAZ 2109 and 2108 cars were a real revolution in the domestic automotive industry. Buyers of such cars have become real lucky ones in the eyes of acquaintances and friends, exactly the same as buyers of the latest Mercedes models today. And there were certain logical reasons for this, such as the incredible reliability of the main nodes.

VAZ 2110 - "Tenth" family and new problems

"Dozens" in the VAZ model line appeared a long time ago, but they gained popularity in 1998. Ten years later, they were removed from production, giving way to new products of domestic development. Today "Ten" is considered to be quite adequate transport with certain problems in assembly. On these models, the engines were installed differently and they had different characteristics:

  • The 1.5-liter 8-valve simple powertrain did not bent the valve, but showed only 72 horses of power;
  • a modified 1.5-liter engine with 16 valves began to actively fold these same valves;
  • a more modern 1.6-liter power unit in an 8-valve version of the valve should have spared, but it did not;
  • you will also not wait for a cheap repair after a timing belt break on the most powerful 1.6-liter 16-valve engine VAZ 2110.

The entire family of "Ten" models was quite high quality and reliable, but the further the plant tried to keep up with the power, modernity and relevance, the more trouble the car got. The most durable and high-quality engine was 1.5 with 8 valves and 72 horses, but the latest models with powerful 16-valve units received only problems, judging by the reviews of car owners.

The modern era of VAZ engines - the main problems

For Lada Kalina, the lineup of power units was slightly modified. This car became the first in the family of a new generation of VAZ, received all engines that bend the valves when the timing belt breaks. Lada Granta also received three types of power units that actively bend the valve. All budgetary VAZ power units in a modern version of the valve are bent. Priora and Largus offer the following types of engines:

  • the base Priora engine is a 98-horsepower power unit, the only one that spares the valves in the modern VAZ model line;
  • the second power unit has the same design, but 106 horses, and these extra 8 horses will cause the valves to bend;
  • The 1.6-liter 8-valve engine of French origin on the Largus does not bend the valve;
  • but his twin brother with 16 valves actively bends them when the timing belt breaks and mercilessly turns the upper part of the unit.

These are the contradictory and unusual characteristics in modern cars of the VAZ concern. But do not forget about one more important company representatives. The Lada 4x4 car offers a good 1.7-liter power unit with 8 valves, which has protection against kinking of these same valves. The unit, though not too powerful, is quite reliable. We suggest looking at a small overview of VAZ engines with recommendations for their operation:

Summing up

VAZ cars can hardly claim the title of optimal and best solutions even in their price range. But today, Granta or Kalina are often the only possible purchase for a Russian family. The sharp increase in prices for other new cars is responding to the need to buy specifically domestic developments. It should be noted that AvtoVAZ is carrying out colossal work on updating its equipment, but even such work has not yet yielded the desired results.

In modern VAZ lines there is only one own engine that does not bend the valve. This is a 98-horsepower unit on the Priora. However, everything here is arranged in such a way that you may not be lucky, so 16 valves will have to be changed after the belt breaks. In other engines, valves and other parts will have to be changed unambiguously after a belt break. It is much cheaper to monitor the condition of the roller and belts by replacing all these parts in a timely manner.

Malfunctions and repair of the VAZ 11183/21114 engine

Engine 21114, the second name 11183 is a further development of the 2111 1.5 liters. and actually, 083 motors. The cylinder block of the 21114 engine is 2.3 mm higher than the 2111, the piston stroke has increased from 71 mm to 75.6 mm, due to which the volume has become 1.6 liters. The environmental performance of the unit has also increased, it has also become more reliable, less capricious than the VAZ 2111 engine, there is an advantage in elasticity and high torque.
This engine has many names: 21114, 11183, engine 2114, viburnum motor. The differences between the VAZ 21114 engine and the VAZ 11183 are that they are assembled in different places of the plant, physically the engine is one. The names of the 2114 engine (1.5 liters were also called so), as well as the viburnum engine, have taken root among the people.
The engine itself is an in-line 4-cylinder injection engine with an overhead camshaft, the gas distribution mechanism has a belt drive. The resource of the VAZ 11183 (21114) engine, according to the manufacturer's data, is 150 thousand km, in practice the motors run more than 200-250 thousand km. there are cases up to 300 thousand km.
Owners of four cars and other cars with this motor often ask themselves a question, does the 21114 engine bend the valve? The answer is simple: if the timing belt breaks the valve, your engine will not bend, but with a sporty evil camshaft there is a chance.
Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the requirements for periodic valve adjustment, as well as the engine noise, reminiscent of a diesel engine. About noises and knocks, they are, in addition to them, the engine troit, heats up or does not warm up, etc., you can read about the causes of this or that problem.

Tuning of the engine VAZ 11183 (21114)

Consider the potential of 11183 8V motor without replacing the cylinder head with a 16 valve (124 motor and its modifications are mentioned in a separate article)
The easiest way is to replace the camshaft with OKB Dinamika 108 or Nuzhdin 10.93, install a split gear, adjust the phases with this, we will get about 85-90 hp. and a bouncy pick up at the top. We do not skimp on a receiver, a 54 mm damper and a 4-2-1 spider exhaust, this config will go better than a 16 valve 124 engine, while the cost of upgrading a VAZ will be quite mundane. The revision of the cylinder head and intake manifold, light T-valves and cylinder head milling will allow us to squeeze the maximum. The estimated engine power of the VAZ 21114 in this case will reach 110-115 hp. Let the motor spin more easily, maybe a light piston Priorovskaya, put it on and get 120+ hp.

Compressor for viburnum motor

An alternative method of obtaining such an output is to install a PK-23-1 compressor, and to increase its efficiency we add Nuzhdin 10.42 or 10.63. The well-known video explains everything that is required for the successful implementation of the project.

Attention MAT (18+)

It is possible to increase power without using a turbine up to 170 hp. and higher, but the resource of the VAZ 11183 engine is significantly reduced.The right step would be to increase the potential by increasing the efficiency of the engine, namely by installing a 16-valve cylinder head, which, together with a valve, a receiver and an exhaust on 51 pipes, will give 110-120 hp. without significant loss of resource.

Turbo viburnum motor

The configuration of a turbo engine based on an 8-valve cylinder head is described, the principle is the same.

When buying a car, not all motorists are interested in whether the power plant installed on the car is "plug-in" ie. whether the valve bends on it when the timing is broken. And this question is quite important and the answer to it depends on how laborious and how much it will cost to repair the engine in the event of such a breakdown.

What is a plug-in motor?

This concept characterizes the likelihood of collision of pistons with valves, as a result of which the latter are damaged - they bend.

This situation arises when the timing drive is broken, when the gas distribution mechanism stops, and the crank continues to operate by inertia.

"Plug-in" and "non-plug" power units are in the lineup of almost all car manufacturers, including VAZ. In this case, the second option of engines, of course, is a higher priority when choosing a car.

If we consider AvtoVAZ products, then this manufacturer has a fairly extensive line of power plants, and in some motors, when the timing drive is broken, the valve bends, while in others such a breakdown does not occur.

The problem when choosing a VAZ car for purchase is the fact that both "plug-in" and "non-plug" units can be installed on the same model, which can confuse the buyer.

What engines are on some VAZ models, see below.

It is worth noting that the likelihood of valve bending is influenced by the type of timing drive. For example, on the VAZ of the classic family (VAZ-2101-2107) as well as the "Niva", only "plug-in" engines were installed. But on the motors of these cars, a timing chain drive is used, which is highly reliable. Therefore, on the classic VAZ and Niva, the problem with valve bending due to a collision with the piston is, in fact, not relevant due to the low probability of its occurrence.

Starting with the VAZ-2108 and ending with the latest models - Priora, Grant, Kalina, etc., only the timing belt drive is used. Here it can break off and the damage that the motor will receive depends on whether it is "plug-in" or not.

Why do engines bend valves?

One of the ways is to ensure the most efficient filling of the combustion chambers with a fuel-air mixture and the removal of exhaust gases. And this is done in two ways - by increasing the number of valves per cylinder and increasing the throughput of the intake and exhaust ports.

The second method is realized by increasing the distance of the valve exit from the seat, and it is this that causes it to collide with the piston, followed by bending.

Thanks to the drive of the gas distribution mechanism from the crankshaft, synchronous operation of the timing and KShM is ensured. During normal operation of the power unit, on the approach of the piston to the TDC, the valves are in the closed position, which excludes their contact.

If the drive of the gas distribution mechanism is cut off, the connection between the mechanisms is lost, and the timing immediately stops, and the KShM continues to function (due to the inertia of the flywheel). In this case, the return valve springs set the camshaft in a position in which most of the cams of the shaft do not press on the valves (they are closed), but some of them still turn so that they act on the valves and the latter turn out to be open.

In "non-stick" engines, it is structurally provided to maintain the distance between the valve plate and the piston crown, which is at TDC, therefore, even with the valves open, contact does not occur.

On these power plants, a break in the gas distribution mechanism does not lead to any internal damage to units and parts, and to restore the power unit's performance, it is enough to install a new belt and perform adjustment work (set everything according to the marks).

But if the power plant is "plug-in", strongly protruding valves collide with the piston, which leads to their bending. On such motors, a break in the timing drive is usually accompanied by a strong single knock. In this case, engine repair is laborious and expensive, since it is necessary to change damaged parts and restore the cylinder head.

On VAZ power units subject to valve bending when the drive is broken, timely and periodic diagnostics of its condition, checking and adjusting the tension are especially relevant. Such measures are practically the only ones to prevent valve breakage.

VAZ engines - "non-stick" and "risky"

Since several power plants are installed on each of the VAZ models, it is important to know which of them are "plug-in".

As already noted, on the classic VAZ (2101-2107) and VAZ "Niva" power units were installed, in which the valves are bent. But since the timing drive on these motors is a chain drive, "sticking" can be disregarded.

Samara

On cars of the "Samara" family (VAZ 2108-21099) the following were installed:

  1. Units marked VAZ 21081, 2108 (carburetor and injection);
  2. Motors 21083, 21091;
  3. 8-valve VAZ-2111 (models of later years of production).

Of these, units 21083 and 2111 did not bend the valves when the timing belt broke, but versions 21081 and 2108 were "risky".

VAZ 2110-2112

On the models of the 10th family (VAZ-2110-2112), the line of power plants is even more extensive. Some units were installed on all cars of this family, and some were offered only for certain models.

Common to all models were motors with indices VAZ-2110, 2111 (8-valve), 2112, 21114, 21124. Of these, the VAZ-2112 and 21114 engines are "plug-in", and the rest of the valves are not bent.

In addition, the VAZ-2112 model car was equipped with a VAZ-21128 power unit, which is also "risky" and if the timing belt breaks, it bends the valves.

Samara-2

Cars of the Samara-2 family, to which the VAZ 2113-2115 models belong, are equipped with units of the VAZ-2111, 21114, 21124 and 21126 brands. Of these, only the VAZ-2111 and 21124 engines are “risk-free”.

Also, for the VAZ-2113 and 2115 versions, a motor with an index of 11183 was offered, in which a broken belt does not lead to bending of the valves.

"Granta", "Kalina", "Priora"

Lada "Granta" is equipped with a line of installations of the following brands: 11183, 11186, 21126 and 21128. The latter two of them are also equipped with the version of "Grant Sport". Of all the motors, only version 11183 is "non-stick", the rest are bent valves.

For Lada Kalina, engines of the brands VAZ 11183, 11186, 11194, 21126 and 21127 are offered. The latter two units are also installed on the Kalina Sport model, and the Cross version is equipped with engines 21127 and 11186. Of the entire line, only the VAZ-11183 engine does not bend the valves when the timing belt breaks.

Lada "Priora" is equipped with installations with indexes 21114, 21116, 21126 and 21127. All these motors are "plug-in".

Note that only the main brands of power plants are indicated above, with which certain models are equipped. But AvtoVAZ almost always "sins" with experimental small-scale production, when units that are not typical for it are installed on some cars.

For example, an engine with an identical index was installed on the VAZ-2109, which differs from version 2108 in a lightweight design, and a small series of VAZ-2108 was completely equipped with a rotary installation marked VAZ-415.

A large number of VAZ power units and the likelihood of hitting an experimental model makes it difficult to determine whether the engine on a particular car is "plug-in". Moreover, even studying those. the documentation does not always give a reliable answer.

To determine whether the valve bends on the engine, it is only possible to physically check it. This operation is not entirely simple, especially for 16-valve units, but it allows you to accurately establish their susceptibility to valve bending.

This method is suitable for checking cars from other manufacturers.

The verification work algorithm is very simple:

  • Remove the timing belt from the engine;
  • Install the piston of the first cylinder at TDC;
  • We turn the camshaft (16-valve version - two) two turns;
  • We set the TDC on the second cylinder and again make two turns.

If, during the check, the camshafts rotated without stopping, the engine does not bend the valves.

Although this method of verification is laborious - it is necessary to disassemble the timing drive, then reassemble, set according to the marks, but it gives an exact answer.

Ways to solve the problem

Since the collision of pistons with valves has rather serious negative consequences, many motorists are interested in whether this situation can be influenced.

There are several methods that make it possible to make a valve-bending motor into a "plug-free" one.

The simplest of these is the installation of grooved pistons. By the way, on some VAZ engines this is exactly how the problem with "sticking" is solved.

On the bottom of such pistons there are special recesses for the valve discs. Due to this, the latter in the open position do not come into contact with the pistons installed at TDC.

But not all motors can be modernized in this way, for the reason that it is not always possible to find pistons with factory-made grooves to replace the "native" ones.

The second method is to make the grooves on the piston yourself. This method is suitable for those who have not found "non-stick" replacement pistons. But this method has a significant drawback - it is very difficult to make the same indentations on all pistons. As a result, an imbalance of pistons by weight may form, which will affect the resource of the KShM. Also, grooves of different sizes can cause, and this problem cannot be eliminated.

The third method is to increase the height of the combustion chamber. This is done by installing 2-3 gaskets under the block head. This method has a negative side - an increase in the volume of the combustion chamber, which entails a fall, and as a result - a decrease in power and an increase in fuel consumption.

Tuning and its impact on "sticking"

VAZ is an excellent option for, which many owners use. One of the main types is to increase its power, and this is done in the same way that designers use - ensuring better filling of the cylinders with an air-fuel mixture. To do this, it is enough just to install a tuning camshaft instead of a standard camshaft - with a higher cam height.

But the increase in power with the help of the tuning shaft also has a negative side - the valves leave the seats for a greater distance, which means that they are more likely to collide with the pistons when the timing drive is broken. Therefore, such tuning makes even a "risk-free" engine "plug-in".

In order not to make the engine "risky", during tuning it is better not to make adjustments to the timing design, but if it is decided to make an upgrade, then you should be ready to constantly monitor the state of the drive.

Finally, we note that if the engine is "plug-in", this does not mean that it is very problematic. With timely maintenance of the timing drive, the likelihood of such a breakdown as valve bending is very low and it may not occur throughout the entire period of vehicle operation.
