The Trail T31 all-wheel drive transmission has 3 operating modes - 2WD, Auto and Lock. From the factory, all torque is transmitted to the front wheels, however, up to a speed of 70 km / h, it is possible to turn on the "Auto" mode, after which, when one of the wheels is slipping, some of the torque will be directed to the rear wheels.

The basic X-Trail was well equipped in the previous generation, and in the current one it was even more generously stuffed. So, the XE version has a decent set of safety features, including slope assistance and body vibration control. The radio tape recorder is beauty itself. And it is also easy to operate, functional, and even the sound gives out quite high quality (with an amendment, of course, only for 4 speakers). Against this background, climate control, power accessories, heated seats and mirrors, as well as cruise control are taken for granted. Not only that, you don't have to pay extra for 17-inch alloy wheels. Not all dealers of cars of democratic brands are as generous.

A fly in the ointment of the whole fairy tale about sweets - the price is 1,249,000 rubles. For a car with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive, that's a lot. If you are aiming at buying a four-wheel drive car with a CVT, you will have to pay at least 1,419,000 rubles. Unlike Europe, Nissan in Russia has long taught its fans to put up with strictly fixed trim levels. And our color palette is rather poor. Only white acrylic is offered for free. For any of the five metallics they ask for 17,000 rubles.

A very significant (132,000 rubles) surcharge for the second version of SE could scare off many. And so it would have happened if we were talking about a budget runabout. However, on the scale of current prices for crossovers, where there is 1.4 million, there is one and a half. Moreover, starting with SE Nissan becomes not only more elegant (toning, leather on the steering wheel, fog lights), but also noticeably more comfortable. The electric drive of the fifth door, parking sensors in a circle, keyless access system - why not lure?

Of course, it's a good idea to have your X-Trail sport a 7-inch touchscreen in the center console and help you park safely with the 360-degree view system. The car has all this starting with the SE + configuration. However, they ask for another hundred thousand for pleasure. And to a reasonable question, why is it so expensive, they will explain to you that the price included a panoramic roof and discs per inch larger in diameter. The same money can be spent in a different way - on leather trim, an electric driver's seat, full-diode headlights and several electronic safety assistants. Such a machine is called LE. If you need all this, then the investment, for me, is quite profitable.

Starting with SE, instead of a 2-liter engine, you can choose an updated petrol 2.5 (+110,000 rubles) or a 1.6 turbodiesel (130 hp). The latter (together with the car) is given for 1,581,000 rubles. This is 30,000 more than what is asked for the optimal 2.0. However, for some reason, we cannot get an "automatic machine" together with a diesel engine.

Outside and inside

Sporty, decisive, fashionable, with an expressive brilliance of LEDs - hardly anyone would be against such lines. It's too late, my friend! Qashqai, which showed the world the same design, has been running on our roads for a year now. They will talk about the X-Trail willy-nilly, they say, borrowed ideas from the youngest. For a more expensive model, this is a minus. Even though the world debut of the two brothers took place almost simultaneously - in the fall of 2013. Fortunately, over the years, the chronology of the appearance of the new mask will no longer be so important. And completely different features will come to the fore.

Practicality, for example, cannot be taken away from a newcomer. Amulets made of unpainted plastic were not spared not only for bumpers, but also for sills and wheel arches. In conjunction body parts there were no large gaps, engineers generously put a dense pile on the inside of the rear arches, and made the compact mudguards of all wheels the basic equipment.

For door moldings, however, you will have to pay extra again. There are also more serious disadvantages. The hood was made much heavier than the previous one, but it was not equipped with pneumatic supports. The most important, in my opinion, unpleasant changes are hidden in the doorways. The new plastic door trims look beautiful from the outside, but the thresholds, alas, do not protect from dirt. The zealous owner will have to take care of attaching additional seals.

The chic of the interior is quite forgiving these costs. The simple design of the middle of the last decade has evolved exclusively for the better. In any version, the interior looks fresh and modern. And starting with LE, where the skin can be not only black, but also light, the car turns into an aristocrat who successfully imitates the premium.

The rear doors open almost at a right angle, the engineers have not forgotten about the intermediate latches of their position, and in terms of the spaciousness of the cabin, the X-Trail even claims to be the best in the class. The passengers of the sofa had a sin to complain about the tightness before, but now the additional 8 cm of the base allowed for more legroom. Too bad the cushion of the sofa remained almost flat. But the sofa itself is now located higher, it can be moved forward, backward and the angle of the backrest can be changed. Both on a long journey and during loading, these abilities will certainly come in handy. Younger brother Qashqai cannot boast of the same concern.

But the successes in the cargo disciplines are not so clear-cut. In the new body, the hold has increased from 479 to 497 liters. However, the sofa must be pushed forward for this. Otherwise, only 400 liters of cargo will fit under the shelf. Fortunately, you can use the space with greater benefit. One of the parts of the underground cover must be installed 20 cm higher, thereby dividing the hold into compartments.

A digital speedometer, data from security systems, four-wheel drive operation, fuel consumption graphs are only a small part of its readings. And how wide are the possibilities of settings! I confess that I don’t remember another crossover that would allow you to choose the degree of engine braking intensity.

The fashion-conscious engineers overlooked a number of shortcomings. For some reason, the door and center armrests are located at different levels. So it is not far from scoliosis. And all that was necessary was to provide for the possibility of adjusting the lid in height. Only one power window has a fully automatic mode, and the on-board electrical network, devoid of a time relay, is de-energized immediately when the engine is turned off. For a one and a half million car, this is a completely inappropriate economy. Visually, I really liked the front seats. A rich front, a developed side stop, perforated leather of excellent workmanship ... However, even on the most expensive versions, there is no adjustment of the front edge of the pillow by the angle of inclination. People taller than 180 cm will have to sit as low as possible, otherwise the hip of the right leg will not be supported. How about visibility? It is better not to save on the front and rear parking sensors. In the optimal SE, I repeat, they are. But security is all right. According to the strictest EuroNCAP methodology of 2014, X-Trail managed to earn five stars and score 33 points. The car withstood the side crash test and impacts on the pole perfectly. The results would be even better if Nissan had driver's knee cushions and active sofa headrests.

It is easier to do this when 110 thousand are asked for the extra 27 horses. After overpaying for 2.5, you expect a greater celebration of life. And you will not wait at all right away. The advantages of the motor are not obvious at first. This is because the main pair in the variator is longer here (5.69 versus 6.39). In the city, the car is not perceived as more temperamental. And only at full load speeds, overtaking is easier. An extra bonus - improvements in efficiency. If earlier this engine was notable for its gluttony of 13-14 liters per hundred, now its appetite can be restrained within 10 l / 100 km. About the same average consumption and a 2-liter car. An important feature was also revealed in the suspension settings. The two-liter car carries smoother and more imperceptibly overcomes the unevenness of a small format. However, if you happen to run into a series of waves on the asphalt, the more compressed suspension of version 2.5 will be preferable. It is such a car that keeps more stable on the arc. The two-liter shakes the body in a sweeping way.

It is also a pity that the Japanese did not provide for better soundproofing of the front arches. It will not be superfluous to spend money on additional processing with noise-absorbing anti-gravel. The 4WD system has not undergone any changes and works quite well. The control of the electromagnetic clutch for connecting the rear wheels is still given to a convenient round on the central tunnel. On a primer, it is better to immediately block the clutches for connecting the rear wheels. Then, up to 40 km / h, the torque will be distributed between the wheels of the front and rear axle equally, and the efforts of ESP are enough for the car to cope with the diagonal hanging. But if you turn on the Auto mode under the same conditions, then the risk of overheating the clutch increases. Nothing irreparable will happen, but for ten minutes the car will become front-wheel drive. Please also note that the geometric passability of the vehicle has deteriorated. According to the measurements of the experts of our publishing house, the angle of entry has decreased from 27 to 19.5. And to the lowest point under the bottom - the lugs of the rear shock absorbers - 165 mm. Fortunately, there is still a lot of "air" under the engine crankcase - it is about the same 20-21 cm, depending on the tires.

Don't be fooled by the new family mask. X-Trail has remained the same respectable introvert, except perhaps trained in accordance with the trends of the times. With an optimal 2-liter engine, the car lacks stars from the sky in terms of dynamics, but it will not allow itself to offend everyone. Thanks to the extended base, it, while remaining, in fact, compact, can be considered equal to mid-size crossovers. The price tag of 1.55 million, of course, makes you get used to it. However, taking into account the equipment and Nissan sizes remains quite an attractive acquisition.
