Mitsubishi Outlander XL 2007-2012

Second Outlander generation did not make a lot of effort to become one of the class leaders compact crossovers... All the work on promotion to the market was done for him by his predecessor, who was in stable demand in Russia. With the change of generations, the car grew in size, the wheelbase was lengthened, which made it possible to accommodate up to seven people in the cabin. In the period from 2007 to 2008, cars of both generations were sold in Russia. In order not to create confusion, later Mitsubishi models Outlander was assigned the XL index.

At first, the crossover was offered with a 2.4-liter petrol four and a 3-liter V6. All our cars were sold with four-wheel drive. After restyling in 2010, the line of motors was replenished gasoline unit volume of 2 liters. This version came with front-wheel drive only. In the same year, the assembly was established near Kaluga. Moreover, along with the Outlander XL, its French clones, Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, also rolled off the assembly line.

An important role in the popularity of the Outlander XL was played by a very decent equipment. Russian dealers sold the car in several trim levels: Inform, Invite, Intense, Instyle and Inspire. The basic version of Inform with a 2.4 liter engine and a manual transmission included ABS, front airbags, climate control, dynamic stabilization system, CD radio, heated front seats, fog lights and light alloy wheels. In the Invite version, a V-belt variator and six airbags instead of two were installed instead of the "mechanics". The Intense version with a V6 engine and a 6-speed "automatic" was complemented by an electric drive and heated mirrors, as well as a light sensor. A leather interior was offered for the Instyle version. And the top-end Inspire came with a sunroof, xenon headlights and an advanced Rockford audio system with CD changer.

From year to year, the trim levels and their content have changed. For example, after the 2010 restyling, the initial version of Inform was somewhat stripped down: two airbags, ABS, radio, climate control and power accessories. Intense additionally installed side and window airbags, alloy wheels and color display. Instyle included leather upholstery and stability control. And the ultimate version of Ultimate is adaptive bi-xenon headlights, a rear-view camera, navigation and a keyless entry system.

Engine

Over the course of production, the Outlander XL has been equipped with gasoline engines a volume of 2.0 liters (147 hp) and 2.4 liters (170 hp), as well as a 3-liter V6 (220 and 230 hp). Turbodiesels with a volume of 2.0 and 2.2 liters produced 140 and 156 hp. respectively, and after restyling there were two versions of the 2.2-liter (156 and 177 hp). We sold only petrol modifications.

Engines 2.0 and 2.4 liters are the same in design. In the drive of the gas distribution mechanism, they use a so-called backlash-free chain. Its service life is calculated for the entire life of the motor, and so far there have been no cases of its replacement. The motors do not have hydraulic valve lifters - the adjustment is made by selecting washers. This operation will be required only after 100 thousand km, but in fact - even later. Experts advise to periodically check the condition of the drive belt rollers auxiliary units(pump, power steering pump and generator). The fact is that by 60 thousand km the rollers made of plastic wear out - their working surface from cylindrical over time turns into conical or barrel-shaped. Eventually the belt slips and falls off. Fortunately, in most cases this happens without serious consequences for the engine. Replacement will cost 15,000 rubles, of which 12,000 rubles. there are spare parts. Let's make a reservation right away that the parts bought in the store will be 25-40% cheaper than those from dealers. And it is more expedient to carry out the work at specialized service stations.

On the 3.0-liter V6, a flap block inside the variable-length intake manifold initially rattled. On this occasion, the company held a revocable action. Therefore, ask the seller if the node changed to an updated one. This makes sense, since the assembled collector costs some incredible money - something about 250,000 rubles.

All units are designed for 95th gasoline. But they work great on 92nd too - it is recommended to be used by "officials" too. Motor electronics are super reliable. Cases of failure of oxygen sensors and mass flow air, idle move and others are sporadic.

Transmission

A mechanical transmission under the hood of a used Outlander XL is quite rare. But as a rule, there are no complaints about her. Unless after 150 thousand km of run, you will have to change the bushings of the lever arm for 2,200 rubles. But with CVT variator manufactured by Aisin, at first there were problems - he jerked and worked noisily due to wear of the pressure cones. The worst thing is that no one was doing the repair of the unit at that time. The box was simply changed entirely under warranty. And at first they sinned on a radiator located separately from the main one, which quickly becomes clogged with fluff and dirt. After making changes to the variator design by mid-2008, there were no more serious complaints about it.

The automatic 6-speed hydromechanical transmission proved to be the best. And a long and happy life should be ensured by timely maintenance with an oil change after 60 thousand km.

The Outlander XL's all-wheel drive drivetrain is also reliable. Under normal driving conditions, torque is transmitted only to the front wheels, and the rear wheels are connected automatically when the front wheels slip by means of an electronically controlled multi-plate friction clutch - upon a computer signal, a powerful electromagnet compresses the clutch package operating in an oil bath. Moreover, the clutch can be forcibly locked (4WD Lock mode) when you have to overcome difficult road terrain. But the Outlander XL should not be confused with an SUV - the clutch overheats very quickly in difficult driving conditions. There are almost no weak points in the transmission. Is that the outboard bearing, which wears out after 100 thousand km. True, it changes along with cardan shaft... At dealers, the part costs about 80,000 rubles. A cardan with a bearing brought from the UAE will cost 32,000 rubles. Feel the difference.

Chassis and body

The suspension of the Mitsubishi Outlander XL is completely independent, with MacPherson struts in the front and rear multi-link structure. The main complaints about the front struts, which can flow even after 10-15 thousand km. This defect occurs on every fourth crossover. Shock absorbers cost 4200 rubles each. a piece. Also short-lived wheel bearings... The good news is that they change separately from the hubs and the dealer has 3,000 rubles each. (although you can buy it cheaper). They change them as they fail one by one, and not in pairs, as usual. But the struts (1100 rubles each) and bushings (540 rubles each) of the stabilizers are durable, which can easily take care of the “hundred”.

The Outlander XL is based on the tenth Lancer. Chassis the crossover was surprisingly sturdy. A weak points only the front shock absorbers(4,200 rubles each), which sometimes flow for 10 thousand km, and wheel bearings (3,000 rubles each), permanently failing. Therefore, they are changed (work - 3000 rubles) not in pairs, as usual, but by the piece.

V rear suspension, except for the hub bearings (3000 rubles each), nothing breaks before 100-130 thousand km. Even servicemen call shock absorbers eternal. But the springs (5,000 rubles each) are rather weak. Due to frequent driving with full load They are not particularly durable brake discs (4800 rubles each) - on 2- and 2.4-liter modifications they do not stand more than 50-70 thousand km, and on 3-liter versions they change two to three times more often.

The body on the Mitsubishi Outlander XL does not lend itself to corrosion. The paintwork, like all "Japanese", is weak. Glass rear doors warp over time, which makes them know about their jammed rubber compressor... In this case, you have to change the U-shaped sealing rubber and file the fasteners of one of the guides. Replacement at a dealer - from 8500 rubles. Windshields cracked for no apparent reason. Mechanics say: due to insufficient body rigidity. On cars after 2010 restyling similar problems was gone.

Close relatives

As part of the cooperation between Mitsubishi and PSA, two French twin brothers were created on the basis of Outlander XL - Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser. Since 2010, the assembly of all three crossovers has been established at the PSA-Mitsubishi plant near Kaluga. The "French" differed from their progenitor only in external styling and emblems on the steering wheel, as well as in the level of trim levels. However, in technically the difference between them is much greater. If Mitsubishi Outlander XL is on Russian market offered exclusively with gasoline engines volume of 2.0, 2.4 and 3 liters, then in the range of French clones there were only two power unit: gasoline volume of 2.4 liters and 2.2-liter turbodiesel (156 hp). Moreover, the 2.4-liter was combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a variator, and a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed "robot" with a double clutch were provided for the diesel engine.

Restyling

After the 2010 modernization, the front end of the Outlander XL body was transformed. The design of the car began to overlap with the other models of the concern, having received a proprietary radiator grille in the form of a huge trapezoid. In the cabin, the finishing materials have improved, and the small box, previously located above the center console, was simply removed. The most expensive version of the Ultimate featured a touchscreen display combined with a navigation system and a rear-view camera. The technique has also changed. In the range of engines, a gasoline 2-liter engine with a return of 147 hp appeared, and the Japanese increased the power of the V6 from 220 to 230 hp. Moreover, the 2-liter version is only front-wheel drive. CVT Invecs III began to adapt to the driving mode and respond faster to the gas supply.

Verdict

Editor:

The Outlander XL, of course, has flaws and minor defects, but they dissolve against the background of the overall reliability of this crossover. In addition, even today it looks quite modern, and so much so that some potential customers prefer it to the new model. If funds allow, we advise you to stay on more recent copies - better post-styling ones, which got rid of many problems. In addition, Outlander XL has good maintainability, and spare parts for it can be bought very inexpensively. It is also important that the officials today offer significant discounts on the maintenance of cars that have already passed the warranty age.

I bought it in April 2010. in ****** (Khimki). Considered quite a lot and meticulously. Due to the modest financial capabilities, the choice fell on Mitsubishi Out, 2.0 CVT, 2WD, tk. little money remained from the sale of the previous one, but I wanted something higher, more economical and cheaper. I don’t go fishing and hunting, I don’t live in the village, I try to be more careful in winter ... In short, the car cost 1,039 thousand, while for all-wheel drive + ESP + leather interior you need to pay another + 180 thousand until ready was. I understood that I was buying. The first complete set on the "automatic" (variator). In principle, there is everything for movement: a steering wheel, seats, a spacious interior, a variator, enough space for rear seats, huge (by appropriate standards) trunk, climate control, heated front seats, MP-3 music, armrest, on-board computer, cooled "glove compartment", 8 pillows.

MOTOR: 2-liter "four", 147 hp, small transport tax... I'll start in order. It warms up, in principle, quickly. The first (blue) division on the temperature scale (LCD display) "pops up" after 4-5 minutes of warming up. Full warm-up - 10 minutes. The revolutions "follow" the pedal, there are no failures. It picks up speed in accordance with the given motor: slowly, gradually, without straining. Driving around the city within 1300-2100 rpm. The consumption in the summer in the city is 10.8-12 l / 100 km, in the winter it is now more - 13-14. On the highway, the cruising speed (I call it the speed on the highway without stress) for this car is 120-140 km / h, and so the consumption is about 10 liters. This is real without embellishment. As it is. For 24,000 km, there are no problems yet. Was at TO for 15,000 km. I went to Minsk, it's cheaper there. We took 5500 rubles, changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and cabin filter. In Moscow, they exhibited 7800, in Bryansk 6500 (without replacing the cabin filter). The motor is quiet, it is not audible in the cabin, it runs smoothly. Before that, there were Mitsu, the impressions are similar.

CONTROLLABILITY: Clarity of management on the "four". Again, everything is learned by comparison. It seemed sharper on the "Germans". At the same time, I was not worried. In principle, there is enough experience, but I understand that it is more stable on sedans. Well, "either a pipe, or a jug", in the sense - you have to sacrifice something: either high ground clearance, or cornering stability.

PASSAGE: Naturally, one must understand that front-wheel drive and the 2-liter engine is the prerogative of mainly passenger transport. In my (personal) opinion, Out in this configuration is simply a UNIVERSAL OF HIGH PERFORMANCE. As there are luxury apartments, meaning a slightly larger area of the kitchen and hallway. Therefore, I think it's not worth expecting something super-passable from HIM. I do not want to belittle him in any way, but even with the winter rubber Nokian HKP SUV is now skidding out of the blue, the left front is in an ice hole - everything is sticking out. The conclusion was simple for myself - for the winter I will take specially Pajero Sport 2.5 D on the "mechanics" 2005-07. and there will be no problems. Three years ago was Pajero Sport 3.0 automatic transmission (good impressions). Clearance - 215 mm. I feel it. On all ruts I absolutely do not cling to the bottom, tk. before me "leveled" with a lower clearance, "climb" on the curb - not a problem. This is captivating.

BOX: Variator (CVT). The same is an automaton, special differences did not feel. The strange thing is that on a slight incline when "DRIVE" is turned on, the car rolls back after releasing the brake pedal. Either a defect in the box, or it should be so. It will be necessary to clarify at the next MOT. This is the first time I see this ... When moving to the box, there are no complaints.

COMFORT: Summer wheels were 16 inches 215/70 R16 YOKOGAMA. Something they are not very much to me. Although "Made in japan". Noisyeeeee. In short, there are problems with Shumkov, I compare it with previous cars. Something could have been done during production. The costs are small compared to the cost, but the result would be great. In motion, the motor is not audible, and the hum from the wheels is noticeable. The climate works quietly, correctly, I use "auto" - it keeps the temperature, warms up, as noted above, quickly. In the summer I was in the Voronezh region (+ 42C), there were no problems with cooling, quite normal. Music is ok, 6 speakers, the quality is satisfactory. Cooled upper glove compartment, it was convenient to carry water in summer, ALWAYS cool. The audible signaling of the unfastened state of the seat belts during movement forces you to fasten the seat belt. Additional 2 12 V sockets in the armrest and in the trunk.

SALON: In my personal opinion and practice, as well as research, of the "classmates" is the largest salon. There is enough legroom on the back sofa, with my height 180 cm. I can freely fit "by myself". The seats are comfortable, with good lateral support, with heated seats (they warm up quickly, have two "high & low" positions), are located on the side of the seats themselves (especially inconvenient, but, in principle, nothing), the rear ones fold in a 60/40 ratio. I have a non-automatic version, but I do not suffer, I fold it manually. With the seats folded down, the trunk is large, with the lower part of the 5th door reclining (like in the BMW X5). Convenient when loading. The salon is made of fabric, the armrests made of an incomprehensible material do not like - they get dirty quickly, they do not wipe well (I am thinking of sheathing with leather - it is practical), the fabric "collects" all the debris (leather wins in this regard), although in summer the fabric is preferable in terms of thermal conductivity, the bottom consists of some that of a budget loose carpet-synthetic winterizer, under which the foam is visible. But on the other hand, if you want something different, both the prices and the country of the manufacturer are different ... Anyway, I made a conclusion, and maybe someone will agree, the Japanese make other configurations for themselves.

OUTPUT. My personal opinion about Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 2WD CVT:

The car is not bad, captivating with a roomy spacious interior, high ground clearance, acceptable (in comparison with others) price, economical "quiet" engine. I will not talk about appearance, I did not evaluate and did not take into account when choosing, I was more interested in internal qualities. Of the shortcomings, I emphasize the rather weak motor for this model and the lack of all-wheel drive... Will you take, consider all the same four-wheel drive, if you are counting on the only car in the family. Otherwise, look for something with a lower gear for the winter, and leave this for the spring-summer-autumn period. If you have any questions, I will be glad to help ...

M itsubishi Outlander XL was equipped with either front or all-wheel drive. With the front, everything is very clear, but the complete one on most trim levels is plug-in here, with a dry clutch. However, options are possible: in addition to the standard transmission, you can find S-AWC on cars for the Japanese market last year with a V6 engine and a permanent full one with transmission elements from the first Outlander on tuning versions. Well, a varied "collective farm" with the installation of nodes from Lancer is a fairly widespread option not only in our country: the Americans have succeeded in this no less, and some of the overseas cars may have such a surprise in the transmission.

In operational terms, a conventional plug-in four-wheel drive does not carry any particular difficulties. It is not perfect - it happens to overheat and twitch rear axle in corners, but it serves for a long time, up to runs of two hundred thousand kilometers, you don't have to worry too much. It also does not require special maintenance, except that the oil in the bevel gear needs to be changed after 60-80 thousand mileage. Otherwise, the bearings may make noise.

CV joints and shafts are quite reliable, cardan shaft after 100-150 thousand mileage may require light repair. But purely electronic "troubles" are also possible - for example, failures in the wiring of the clutch or the salon controller of the modes.

With manual transmissions, everything is generally fine too. If you do not miss the oil level and change it at least closer to a hundred thousand mileage, then with runs over 200 they are still quite alive. Unless the synchronizers are already worn out, and even if they slip for a long time, the differential can "grab" - there have been cases of its axle coming out of the body with the destruction of the box.

WITH automatic transmissions everything is a little more complicated. Many are very afraid of the variator, and for some reason the rumor attributes its production to the Aisin company. In fact, the only version of the CVT was installed on the Outlander, and this is the widespread Jatco JF 11E. Such boxes can be found on all cars on the Mitsubishi platform, as well as on Renault, Nissan, and even Jeep and Dodge. However, there is nothing surprising: once again look at the list of "related" models, all of them were equipped with similar motors and gearboxes.

The variator is a fairly simple thing in design. And he almost never has minor breakdowns - he either works or not. Oddly enough, this is a plus. On cars after 2008, this box does not have any childhood diseases, it does not bother with minor glitches and glitches. With careful movement, 150 and 200 thousand kilometers can go out without bothering with mistakes - you just need to change the oil more often and observe: a minimum of shock loads and as little load as possible at extreme gear ratios.

Unfortunately, the 2.4 engine is already almost the maximum power for this box, and the variator does not last too long on a relatively heavy "Out". The bearings of the box are damaged, the belt wears out and lifts up the cones already by the run of 150-180 thousand during typical operation. WITH two-liter engine the box lasts much longer, since the owner is less likely to do something stupid. However, the variator is generally quite sensitive to the operating mode, and it is relatively easy to "kill" it. In addition, there is a "birth disease" with the valve of the oil pump of the box: if the oil is contaminated, there is every chance of losing pressure and getting for serious repairs, with at least the replacement of the pump itself or its restoration.

The variator should not vibrate and howl - these are the first signs of damage to bearings or cones with a chain. There should be no noise, not even a rustling noise - this could be a sign of wear or damage to the belt. And starting from a place at low revs should be smooth and vigorous enough, not requiring a strong increase in revs. Many do not change the oil in the box until noises and twitching appear, thereby finishing off both the oil pump and the control system - after such a treatment, restoring the variator can be very expensive.

A conventional Jatco JF 613E hydraulic automatic was installed on the three-liter V 6. This six-speed transmission can withstand more torque than the variator, but it has more minor problems, and the resource is not so great. The gas turbine engine is quite reliable with quiet movement and in this mode has an almost endless resource, but a three-liter engine is usually taken not at all for quiet movement. In the "pedal to the floor" mode, the blocking pad of the gas turbine engine is eaten up rather quickly. With this automatic transmission, it is not designed for such a tough attitude: this is not ZF for you, where such a mode is almost standard.

But even with moderately quiet movement, the valve body solenoids remind of themselves: on six-speed gearboxes, they are heavily loaded and, with the slightest oil contamination, quickly fail. Fortunately, in this case frequent change of gearbox oil greatly improves the situation and prolongs the resource of the gearbox as a whole. There are copies with mileage over 300 thousand without repair, but it is difficult to guess with a copy, and automatic transmission self-diagnosis does not provide accurate data on adaptation and predicted resource. In general, the automatic transmission is considered resourceful and very successful for six-speed gears. But whether you are lucky with a particular car is a separate question.

Engines

Mitsubishi engines are traditionally good: the set includes both a long service life and a very well thought-out design. True, the new generation of engines that were installed on the Outlander - 4B 11 and 4B 12 - have some nuances related to the chain resource, but in general they are one of the most successful engines of their size on the market. They were installed not only on Mitsubishi cars and "clones", but also on Hyundai, Kia, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep cars. As for the V 6 3.0 6B 31 series, despite the new name, the engine of a rather venerable age is a product of further improvement of the 6G 7 engine line, familiar from Pajero.

Inline "fours" are the most " driving motors". And for good reason: 150-170 Horse power more than enough for a car with wadded handling, and 220 horsepower produced by V 6 is already a bit too much, especially since V 6 is more expensive to maintain, and it requires much more fuel.

Highly good quality development of the engine management system for latest models Mitsubishi is one of strengths models. And in terms of the mechanical part, everything is not bad, except that the resource of chains of the order of 120-150 thousand kilometers is not enough, but this is a general trend. And the replacement price is relatively low, when using high-quality non-original components - less than 15 thousand rubles.

Among the "generic sores" - perhaps the floating speed and noisy timing of engines. With runs under 200 thousand kilometers, wear of the valve guides and seats leads to an increase in oil consumption and coking piston group... With overheating, such problems may appear much earlier. This usually ends with an overhaul of the engine with the restoration of the cylinder head and replacement of the piston rings - the wear of the piston group is usually minimal. Rarely, but there are cases of loss of oil pressure with damage to the crankshaft, liners and connecting rods, and most often the problem happens with 2.4 liter engines. Moreover, sometimes the cause of the loss of pressure cannot be found.

The maintainability of the motor is assessed by the craftsmen as low: there are no repair sizes of the liners, but they are suitable from the Nissan SR 20, where everything is in order with the repair sizes. But the piston group is quite reliable, only with runs over 250 thousand there is a tangible development of cylinders and pistons. When repairing 2.4 engines, it is recommended to always install new connecting rod bolts, or even buy reinforced tuning ones.

Timing chain 4V11 / 4V12

price for original

3,155 rubles

A three-liter engine is considered more reliable, but in practice it still surpasses the "four" at the cost of maintenance, and the chances of serious repairs with runs under 200 thousand are very high. A reliable timing belt drive is not a hassle - you just need to change it on time. But here are the camshafts when high mileage can be already "worn out", and sometimes the bed of the camshaft and the rocker arms of the pushers are damaged.

An oil pump is also in the risk zone, since it is relatively inexpensive, 17 thousand rubles for the original one and half as much for the compatible one. It is recommended to measure the oil pressure with runs over 100 thousand and, if necessary, replace or repair it. Leaks are the second major engine problem. And all would be fine, but if the oil gets on the timing belt, the consequences will be very serious.

Outlander's engine mountings are a consumable: they often have to be changed every third MOT with an active driving style. In addition, the motor is very easy to overheat, since the radiators cannot cope with its hot character in the heat. Otherwise, everything is favorable: the resource of the piston group is large, there are almost no minor problems with leaks, oil getting into antifreeze and other troubles. Contract units are cheap, and the control system is reliable, except that the lambda sensors are quite capricious, and the catalysts begin to crumble after 150,000 mileage - if not noticed in time, this will lead to bulging of the piston group.

Diesel engines are mainly represented by a Volkswagen two-liter unit. Actually, the main problems of the owners of such a miracle are related to the fact that they simply do not know this motor in Mitsubishi services, and in the VW service, in turn, they do not know from which end to approach it - after all, it has its own control system.

Summary

It would seem that the O utlander XL is a good, fairly fresh car. Besides, it is large and very "family" and is inexpensive. The advantages include very reliable units by modern standards, almost all of them with a guarantee nursing 200 thousand kilometers, and with some luck and care, even more. But the controllability and ergonomics seem to the average owner to be an invention of journalists and nothing more, and the buyer does not count on corrosion in a six-seven-year-old "Japanese" at all. So negative reviews usually the result of serious disappointment. The result of small and not so much problems is not always an adequate price for spare parts: the bulk of the "expenditure" is inexpensive, even when compared with European models. And the choice of the non-original is quite impressive, since the USA loves alternative manufacturers.

Mitsubishi Outlander XL 2007-2012

Mitsubishi Outlander XL 2007-2012

The second generation Outlander did not make a lot of effort to become one of the leaders in the compact crossover class. In order not to create confusion, the later model Mitsubishi Outlander was assigned the XL index.

At first, the crossover was offered with a 2.4-liter petrol four and a 3-liter V6. All our cars were sold with four-wheel drive. After restyling in 2010, the line of engines was replenished with a 2 liter gasoline unit.

The basic version of the Inform with a 2.4L engine and a manual transmission included ABS, front airbags, climate control, dynamic stabilization system, CD radio, heated front seats, fog lights and alloy wheels.

Intense additionally installed side and window airbags, alloy wheels and a color display. Instyle included leather upholstery and stability control. And the ultimate version of Ultimate is adaptive bi-xenon headlights, a rear-view camera, navigation and a keyless entry system.

Engine

Over the entire production period, the Outlander XL has been fitted with 2.0-liter (147 hp) and 2.4-liter (170 hp) gasoline engines, as well as a 3-liter V6 (220 and 230 hp). ...

Experts advise to periodically check the condition of the belt rollers for the drive of auxiliary units (pump, power steering pump and generator).

Cases of failure of oxygen sensors and mass air flow, idling and others are isolated.

A mechanical transmission under the hood of a used Outlander XL is quite rare. But as a rule, there are no complaints about her. Unless after 150 thousand km of run, you will have to change the bushings of the lever arm for 2,200 rubles. But at first there were problems with the Aisin CVT variator - it twitched and worked noisily due to wear of the pressure cones.

True, it changes along with the driveshaft.

Shock absorbers cost 4200 rubles each. a piece. Wheel bearings are also short-lived.

The chassis of the crossover was surprisingly strong. And the weak points in it can be called only the front shock absorber struts (4200 rubles each), which sometimes flow for 10 thousand km, and the wheel bearings (3000 rubles each), permanently failing. Therefore, they are changed (work - 3000 rubles) not in pairs, as usual, but by the piece.

In the rear suspension, except for the hub bearings (3,000 rubles each), nothing breaks before 100-130 thousand km. Even servicemen call shock absorbers eternal. But the springs (5,000 rubles each) are rather weak. Because of frequent driving at full load, they sag. Brake discs are not particularly durable (at 4,800 rubles) - on 2- and 2.4-liter modifications they do not withstand more than 50-70 thousand km, and on 3-liter versions change two to three times more often.

The body on the Mitsubishi Outlander XL does not lend itself to corrosion. The paintwork, like all "Japanese", is weak. The rear door windows warp over time, which is indicated by their jammed rubber seal. In this case, you have to change the U-shaped sealing rubber and file the fasteners of one of the guides. Replacement at a dealer - from 8500 rubles. Windshields cracked for no apparent reason. Mechanics say: due to insufficient body rigidity. On cars after restyling in 2010, there were no such problems.

However, in technical terms, the difference between them is much greater. If the Mitsubishi Outlander XL in the Russian market was offered exclusively with gasoline engines with a volume of 2.0, 2.4 and 3 liters, then in the range of French clones there were only two power units: a gasoline volume of 2.4 liters and a 2.2-liter turbodiesel (156 hp).

K rossovers are very different. Someone, in fact, turns out to be a harsh SUV, someone a minivan, others take it with comfort or dynamics, someone even calls a slightly raised hatchback with a sporty disposition "crossover". But in Mitsubishi second a generation of their mid-size Outlander / AirTrek crossovers made beautiful. Well, very "minivan", of course. The sleek and large car, by and large, turned out to be a "gray mouse" in everything else. Not too comfortable, with mediocre handling, with a markedly mediocre cross-country ability, theoretically it should have been very practical and, moreover, inexpensive. A kind of middle peasant with an emphasis on family values and appearance. And this set of qualities was highly appreciated not only in target audience but also in Peugeot-Citroen, offering the Outlander XL under their own brands without major changes.

In fact, Outlander has more than enough "relatives" familiar to us, because it was created on common platform with Lancer X, Delica and ASX. And he has a whole bunch of overseas relatives: the Mitsubishi GS platform was used by Dodge Caliber, Avenger, Journey, Jeep Compass, Patriot and Chrysler Sebring. They also have common chassis elements, and the motors coincide in many respects, and in the electrical part, the commonality is felt. A full list there are almost two dozen models on this chassis. Given the circulation American models, with non-original spare parts for the chassis, questions do not arise, and the circulation of the Outlander itself turned out to be rather big - a lot of people liked the car. Unfortunately for appearance hiding a very mediocre chassis and poor elaboration of many structural elements, so that the dissatisfaction of many owners is quite justified.

And it's not about the Kaluga assembly - as we remember, cars with engines 2.0 and 2.4 were made here. It’s just the manufacturer’s approach to making the machines takes a toll. Our cars are even painted, on average, noticeably better than cars with NedCar in the Netherlands. By the way, let me remind you of an interesting fact. All Volvo models from this plant were rare rotten: 340, 440 and the first S 40 rot very noticeably. As soon as Volvo changed the plant for the production of "junior", they did not have rotting models. And the Mitsubishi Carisma, the first Japanese model, which was put on an assembly line in the Netherlands, was also very rusty. So with Outlander, everything in this regard is not very good. But you shouldn't write off all the problems only for a specific plant: we have rare cars. Japanese assembly and the "French" have, on average, the same set of problems.

Restyling 2010 brought nothing particularly new to the design. The more aggressive appearance of the new Lancer X-style model caught the public's attention a little, but not for long. More recent navigation system and an update in the mechanics of all-wheel drive at the most powerful versions hardly touched Russian complete sets... In fact, the next, third Outlander is a global facelift of the second generation, the fruit of work on mistakes, in which it was just tweaked driving performance and the interior was overhauled.

But how does the car show itself in operation from the point of view of reliability in general? The first copies of this generation of machines are approaching the age of 10 years, and many design flaws are already showing themselves.

Body

It would seem that it is still too early for corrosion, but the Outlander and its European clones turned out to be very vulnerable to minor damage to the paintwork. Paint swelling and pinpoint defects are unfortunately common. The cars were even regularly painted under warranty.

Most often, the damage concerned the hood, doors and tailgate. In an accident, the metal rusts almost immediately, unlike the old "Japanese", who had to wait months for the first red dots to appear even on panels with loose paint. Therefore, when buying, it is recommended that a very thorough examination of all external elements is recommended, and if there are traces of off-road operation, then the bottom is also recommended for minor violations. But expecting serious damage from corrosion is useless - it's too early. By the way, cars after an accident most likely will not have minor paintwork defects: a thicker paint layer reliably protects the metal for a long time. And the paint-and-lacquer thickness tester will not help precisely because many cars were tinted due to minor defects not related to accidents.

In general, be more attentive to the details, especially since the price of body parts from Mitsubishi is very heterogeneous: some are very inexpensive, especially in comparison with European models, and some are available only in the original version, and the price is very frightening. Accordingly, "bringing to mind" can be very expensive and troublesome.

As was the case ten years ago, all airbags must be checked, even inflatable curtains, pretensioners, the condition of the seat belts and numerous decorative trims and covers.

Salon

At first glance, the interior of the car is quite beautiful, but upon closer examination it turns out that it is made of hard plastic, which, moreover, becomes very dirty very quickly. The panels are not securely fastened, with age, the interior begins to "creak", and many elements of the interior mechanics do not suffer from excess strength either. Windows, handles, microlift and various switches are made cheap and fail quite often. Moreover, it is not always a matter of careless handling - there are enough vibrations and normal operation.

Already at such a childhood it fails steering column, the trapezoid of the wipers wedges, the heater motor may stop working even with a mileage of less than 50 thousand. The wear of the seats and the steering wheel with a mileage of over a hundred thousand is a common thing: the materials are poorly chosen. And the salon frankly does not like wet dry cleaning - after such an operation, you can get a constant smell of mold. In general, caring for the salon here is not an easy thing, and the result is not impressive in any case.

Excessive noise from below is bad joints exhaust system... They begin to undercut even when the mileage is less than a hundred, but fortunately, exhaust corrosion even on the oldest cars is still purely cosmetic, near the seams, and it is too early to change components. However, there is already enough noise here: in addition to a very scanty layer of noise insulation, which is especially noticeable on winter tires, weak door seals, and small leaks in the mirrors, and even a hole for the steering column in the body, which was not equipped with a good oil seal, fail. The glasses are thin, break easily and almost do not muffle noise, many Outlander owners glue a reinforcing film and note that this improves the acoustic picture in the cabin. Windshield well, it is very fragile, and off-road pokatushki can end up with cracks on it due to the load on the body. Additional noise insulation is a very popular tuning for this model: twenty extra pounds of "Shumka" make the car noticeably more comfortable.

Fortunately, the age of the Outlander XL is still relatively small, and massively all defects in one car are rare, but it seems that the age of these cars will not be too long precisely because of the low quality of the bodywork and its poor study. Moreover, the poor tightness of the controls adds to the hassle of the electrical part: the glass control unit and the all-wheel drive transmission are at risk. And on cars with mechanical box gears, the gearshift mechanism very quickly gains backlash, sometimes up to the difficult inclusion of the first and second gear.

Electrical and electronics

The main components of the wiring and especially the engine management system are carefully made and are not even afraid of sand and dirt under the hood. Anyway, at that age. They supply mainly a switching unit, which has weak fuse holders, and various motors - a heater, power windows, drives for seats and mirrors and wipers.

The fuel pump turned out to be surprisingly weak: fortunately, put original part not necessary here - replacements are better and cheaper. Unstable alternator voltage on running machines will require frequent replacement of bulbs. It is especially frustrating to change multiple backlight bulbs. dashboard and controls: the price of the original lamps is as much as 200 rubles each, but you need a lot of them. But as usual, there are enough cheap replacements, and often owners put LEDs instead of lamps.

With runs over 150 thousand kilometers in the risk zone, there is already a generator of machines with a 2.0 and 2.4 engine: wear of bearings and slip rings - typical malfunction... And the generator belt serves two times less, and it is mainly the rollers that bring it down.

Brakes, suspension and steering

Brakes at Mitsubishi cars- a weak point since time immemorial. On Pajero, for example, with this too. The Outlander is at risk of hose guides and brake lines. And the brakes work very mediocre, the resource of discs and pads is insufficient, so if the brake discs are no longer original on a car with a declared mileage of 70 thousand, do not be surprised - there is a chance that the mileage is fair. They just wear out very quickly. And if you forget to lubricate the guide pins of the calipers, then wedging the pads will kill them even earlier. The brake hoses also need an eye and an eye. The front ones, for example, are too short - if you turn the wheels all the way and unload the wheel, it can even break off. At the time of purchase, a thorough inspection of all elements, a driving test for beats and drifts, and a temperature control of the discs are recommended.

The suspension of the "Japanese" is quite noisy, but the main fault for the excessive "sonority" of the interior, as we found out, still lies with the noise insulation. The resource of most elements exceeds 150 thousand mileage, but small knocks increase after 60-70, although there is nothing criminal in this. Often it is enough to tighten the fastenings of the rack and levers, check the tightness of the supports of the front struts - and most of the noise will go away. Well, the stabilizer struts also need to be changed in a timely manner.

Shock absorbers run for a long time, but the car's handling is very "wadded" initially. Many buyers of a used car expect to change the suspension and get rid of poor stability on a straight line and frank "cottoniness", but the replacement "in a circle" does not help much. If you put the suspension elements from the Japanese Evolander / Ralliart, then the situation improves markedly, but ground clearance these versions have less, and not all elements fall into place without modifications.

The service life of the hub bearings is a little too small: when using 18-inch rubber, their resource does not exceed 120-180 thousand kilometers. True, the price is also low, but you have to combine the replacement with the repair of the suspension. And there is no need to delay with it: bearings are prone to seizure, and this in most cases leads to severe accidents.

But the steering here is without any particular difficulties. Most of its malfunctions are associated with a broken service belt due to wedging bypass rollers and a tensioner roller. The rest serious problems not yet, the rack is not prone to knocks and leaks. And the replacement of these is often associated with the installation of a "sharper" Lancer or other machines - the original has a gear ratio "almost like the Volga", which is corny inconvenient in the city.

As we can see, the Outlander XL has plenty of "innate weaknesses" - the main thing is to decide when buying which of them you can eliminate in the near future, and which ones you can postpone - the correct prioritization will help you spend more happy hours behind the wheel and save less money and wait for the car to be repaired. Now is the time - especially since, fortunately, they promise much less difficulties in selection and content.
