  • open-end wrench size "19";
  • spanner wrench for "8";
  • wrench on "13";
  • new alternator belt.

Stages of work

If you have prepared everything that may be required in the process, then you can proceed to the replacement work. So let's get started:

  1. Turn off the engine and open the hood of the Lada Kalina.
  2. The alternator belt can be found on the left side of the engine compartment. If you do not know where it is, then start the engine and look in engine compartment... The strap will rotate on casters and you will see it.
  3. Once you find the location of the element, take a wrench and loosen the screw that secures the adjusting rod. Immediately try to feel how tight the belt is. This is necessary so that you understand how to set the tensioner after installing the element.
  4. When the nut is loosened, take the “8” box wrench and tighten the adjusting rod. When you start turning it clockwise, the tension on the alternator belt on the rollers will be released. Twist the stem almost to the end.
  5. This will loosen the roller strap tensioner. If the tensioner is already loose, you can unscrew the lower mount of the device. To do this, use the key to "13".
  6. It is necessary to move the adjusting rod up. When the rod is retracted, the strap can be removed, but first remove it from the shaft of the device.
  7. When part of the belt has been removed from the pulley assembly, remove it completely from crankshaft.
  8. Pull out the element and visually diagnose it. If the strap is cracked, you will see other signs of deformation, for example, the shape has been changed, then it must be replaced. Install the new component in place of the old one, assembling everything in reverse order.
  9. When the installation of the element is complete, it is necessary to check the tension on the rollers. You need to adjust the tension using the appropriate rod. The element should not be too loose as it will regularly bounce off while riding. But it should not be overly tense either.
  10. Start the engine and warm up the car to 50 degrees. Then turn off the engine and check again how tight the element is. If weakened, then tighten.

For a long time there were no topics in the blog about Kalina's electrical equipment and today I decided to demonstrate such a procedure as replacing the alternator belt on my own. This work is done easily and simply, and does not require special skills and knowledge, and a minimum of tools can be dispensed with. Detailed instructions for changing the belt

So, first of all, you will need to loosen the large locking nut on the tensioner rod by making a couple of turns, clearly shown below:

And after that, it is necessary to loosen the tension of the alternator belt by twisting the rod itself clockwise, thereby loosening the belt. It is convenient to do this with a ratchet, approximately as shown in the following photo:

We twist until the stem looses and dangles freely. Then we unscrew its fastening bolt from below, see the picture in more detail:

And after taking out the bolt with the bushing and washer, lift the tensioner top and put it in approximately the same way as I did so that it does not interfere with the replacement in the future.

Now the belt is loosened enough and there are no more obstacles to removing it. First, we release it from the generator pulley, applying a little effort:

When everything is ready, we take it out of there, turning it slightly to the side so that it does not cling to anything in order to avoid damage:

If, when inspecting the belt, it was found to be damaged and severely worn, then it will need to be replaced with a new one. The price of this part of the Lada Kalina is inexpensive and is about 300 rubles, so the pocket does not really pull. The installation is carried out in the reverse order and do not forget to adjust the tension to the required level. To carry out work on replacing the belt, you will need to assemble the following set of tools:

  • heads 8 and 13;
  • standard keys for 13 and 19;
  • grease and penetrating grease for processing parts of the mechanism during assembly;
  • tension roller (if, during diagnostics, it is found necessary to replace it);
  • a new timing belt of the corresponding model and length.

It is necessary to understand that when carrying out the replacement with your own hand, you will have to spend a lot of time on the preparatory work associated with the removal of elements that prevent access to the Kalina generator:

  • remove protection;
  • remove the wheel using a wheel wrench;
  • remove the fender liner;
  • remove the ICE pillow.

The work should be carried out in a pit, as free access to all parts of the machine is required. After the preparatory work proceed directly to replacing the timing belt on an 8-valve engine.

Using an 8 wrench equipped with a ratchet, the large lock nut located on the tensioner rod is loosened. In the absence of a ratchet, a ring or standard wrench for 8 will do. Further actions are performed in the following order:

  • remove one or two terminals from the car battery in order to de-energize the system;
  • dismantle the washer (fluid reservoir);
  • remove the generator cover by unbending the fixing mustache and spreading them in different directions;
  • remove the washer from the timing belt and remove the drive belt;
  • using a wrench, loosen the timing belt, which is fixed with nuts, and reduce the tension level;
  • carry out work to relieve tension;
  • remove the protection, and then the belt itself;
  • if necessary, remove the roller to replace it, for which you will first need to remove the plug;
  • in reverse order, starting with the roller, install new spare parts and fix them with bolts and retaining elements.

After installing the timing belt, it is necessary to test its tension and, if necessary, adjust.

Mark for correct belt tension

If a tension mismatch is found, a series of manipulations should be performed to correct the situation. In order to release the tension, it is necessary, using a special adjustment pin, to rotate clockwise until the required tension level is obtained. In the course of work, you need to check the tension with a special device. To increase the tension, the adjustment pin should be turned in reverse side while also monitoring changes.

Using a simple technique that requires a minimum number of tools, the tension is adjusted, after which the Kalina will be operated without breakdowns until the next scheduled replacement of the timing belt.

I think that many car owners have encountered such a problem when the alternator belt whistles. This occurs due to the weakening of the tensioner, it is especially clearly detected in wet weather, when a not very pleasant whistle appears from under the hood. The tension is quite simple and does not take much time, and very little tool is required:

The first thing we need to do is loosen the tensioner rod lock nut by unscrewing it slightly counterclockwise:
