Quality Seal: Which Summer Tires Are Better. Summer tires for dirt roads Passenger tires well on grass

Foreword

It so happened that on our site there were two articles of similar topics. Therefore, we decided to combine these two articles into one.

Article 1. Choosing tires for the summer

Changing winter tires to summer models is a must for every car. This is due to basic safety rules and correct
operation of the machine. But how to choose the right summer tires for Russian roads and what parameters should you focus on in the first place? To solve these issues, it is necessary to understand in detail the classification and consider the characteristics of popular tire models.

How to choose tires for your car for the summer?

The defining parameters of the choice are the brand of the car, its weight and operating conditions. For the 2016 summer season, manufacturers offer a number of new models and time-tested classic tire options.

The main differences between winter and summer models are the types of protectors. They determine the quality of tire adhesion to the road surface and reduce the influence of external factors - moisture, dust, sand, gravel, etc. Therefore, before deciding which tires are best to choose, you should study the types of treads:

The next group of factors is the technical qualities of summer tires. They indicate the maximum load on the structure, as well as speed limits:

In addition to these indicators, you must pay attention to the additional designations on the tires and be able to read the full markings. Additionally, it is recommended to choose models that are wider than those of the winter options.

The best summer tires of 2016, their rating. We draw conclusions from the magazine "Behind the wheel"

The official publication of the rating of tires for passenger cars by the magazine "Za Rulem" in professional circles caused a lot of confusion. This is due to the fact that the test results of the well-known Nokian trademark were distorted. The official winner according to the results of the domestic publication was the model "Nokian Hakka Green 2". But is it really so?

To compare the test results, you can refer to similar foreign publications - Autonavigator, ADAC, AutoBild, Vi Bilagare. Almost all of them gave preference to other manufacturers. The difference between the choices is within the margin of error.

Nokian Hakka Green 2

These tires are designed to fit on mid-size and small cars. In addition to preventing the effect of aquaplaning, it has a positive effect on reducing fuel consumption.

However, despite the positive reviews of domestic publications, Finnish experts from Vi Bilagare ranked it only the penultimate place in their ranking. This is mainly due to a decrease in the performance and technical qualities of the model when tested on a dry surface.

Continental ContiPremiumContact 5

This model is the flagship of the company. In the process of its development, the latest technological innovations were used. In particular, macroblocks, due to which the contact patch of the tire with the road is significantly increased.

As a result of the tests, the tires performed well on dry asphalt, forming a minimum braking distance. On the highway, the results were no worse. We lost ground a bit during the tests on wet surfaces. As a result: Vi Bilagare - 1st place; ADAC - 2nd. In the rating of the magazine "Za Rulem" this model of summer tires of the 2016 season only got the 6th position.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance

The tires have perfect grip on wet surfaces. This is facilitated by the unique shape of the tread. Active braking technology, pioneered in this tire manufacturer, has resulted in better test results.

Edition tests: Vi Bilagare - 2nd line; Hungarian Autonavigator gave 1st place to tires. The magazine "Za Rulem" ranked them in the 2nd position of its rating.

As can be seen from the test results, the three leaders in world rankings differ from the published selection of summer tires for 2016 by the magazine "Za Rulem". This year, companies that specialize in the development and production of racing tires took the last positions in the TOPs. Among them are well-known brands - Yokoham Toyo.

What are the best tires to buy for the summer? Feedback from specialists 2016

Despite the authority of the described publications, summer tires for Russian roads must be chosen according to one more criterion - expert reviews. They will allow you to create an objective opinion about the quality and technical parameters of the model.

About Nokian Hakka Green 2

“The Nokian Hakka Green 2 came out just this year. In the previous version, I drove about 5000 km. The main problem was poor traction on the grass, which is a priority for Russian roads in the summer (or rather, their absence). Apparently, the manufacturer decided to take this nuance into account.

The new summer tires for 2016 have grousers. They are located in the lateral and central areas. A significant drawback from the previous model was removed in the design - dividing partitions in the center. They almost completely neutralized the expected effect of the lugs. This issue has now been resolved. But more truthful results should be expected at least by the middle of summer. "

Evgeniy, Moscow, 32 years old

“I decided to buy the Nokian Hakka Green 2 as summer tires. First I got acquainted with the test results from Za Rulem. After installation, they were tested in spring conditions. At first glance, the tires behave well - the braking distance has decreased, and you feel confident when cornering. Side hooks allow you to overcome slush, do not allow you to get stuck in the mud.

The only negative point is the relatively high noise level. But it is felt only when driving onto a dirt road. Most likely, it is associated with the tread pattern. But this is my subjective opinion. "

Roman, Kaluga, 28 years old

About Continental ContiPremiumContact 5

“I put a Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 on my Lancer 6. First impressions - summer tires are very quiet. They respond well to bends. When driving through puddles at 80 km / h, the aquaplaning effect was not observed. I tried to accelerate to 100 km / h - the tires are helped by ABS. As for the wear, I can not say anything yet - the mileage is too low.

Feel confident in a rut. When entering a 90-degree turn at speed, skidding was not observed at all, they did not even squeak. "

Sergey, St. Petersburg, 38 years old

“Summer tires just fly away: yes, they are expensive, but the workmanship and reliability of the grip are at the highest level. I noticed that they are practically silent, they behave perfectly on a wet track.

However, after checking the emergency braking from 140 km / h to 0, I observed slight abrasions on the central part. I hope it will not have a big impact on further exploitation. "

Vladimir, Stavropol, 30 years old

About Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance

“Our company has purchased Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tires for service cars - Opel 'Vivaro'. Despite the soft surface, the grip is good and the noise is minimal. Have a positive effect on saving gasoline. On one of the cars, after 2000 runs, two small dimples appeared on the side of the tread. So far nothing has been done with them.

I was especially pleased with the braking distance. I had to make an emergency stop, as the tires in combination with ABS showed a good result "

Vitaly, Vladivostok, 27 years old

“Overall, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance models are rated 4.5 out of 5. They ride well on wet and dry asphalt and are durable. I tried to ride on grass and ground - I'm happy with the result. During the season, not a single "bump" was "caught", although I often traveled and not quite on the roads.

The disadvantage is that the noise level rises over time. And this was noted not only by me. "

Article 2. Which summer tires are best?

When to change your car for summer tires in 2016?

This question is relevant every year. But it will not be superfluous to analyze the details of the answer to this question, and for someone, perhaps, new facts will be discovered that will spill
light on the problem. Go! When to change tires for summer tires in 2016?

So, firstly, it is necessary to take into account the geographical location of the region. On the territory of the Russian Federation, winter comes unevenly, which means that you need to follow the forecasts of weather conditions.

Secondly, it is important to consider your travel geography. If you drive in a general stream through traffic jams and through central highways, there is every chance that the asphalt in those places is dry and summer tires will be in place here, as well as Velcro. If your trips are impossible to predict and plan - do not rush to change your vehicle. In the courtyards, puddles are often covered with an ice crust; certain sections of the road outside the city can also sin the same.

In addition, do not forget the main thing - it is better to change the rubber after the moment when the temperature of +5 degrees will be stable for several nights. It is with her that puddles remain puddles, and the properties of adhesion of summer rubber to the road are maximized.

Can you ride summer tires in winter?

After the past 2015, the answer to this question has become unambiguous. It is forbidden to ride on tires that do not correspond to the season of the season. It is important to note that, taking into account the peculiarities of the weather conditions in certain regions of Russia, the traffic police may increase the terms of using winter tires. It is unambiguously clear that changing shoes after the end of the calendar winter on March 1 is not worth it.

But, on the other hand, there is no direct punishment for this offense. After all, only tires with a low residual tread height or the presence of different tires on the same axle will be unambiguously fined. And for using a car with summer tires in winter, a fine can be charged in the amount of 500 rubles. And also the inspector has the right to issue a warning. It all depends on the human factor.

As a result, we get a contradictory situation - if in winter you drive on summer tires with a tread depth that is adjusted to the norms for this type of car, the inspector will confirm this fact, but he will not write out a fine for summer tires in winter 2016.

However, the situation at the legislative level can change at any time.
Considering driving a car on summer tires in winter, it is worth remembering that it is dangerous. This is especially true for drivers with little experience in driving a vehicle. Also, in an emergency, besides yourself and your vehicle, you can harm other road users. Therefore, change the shoes of the car on time with tires that are in good condition, and do not skimp on safety.

When the issues related to the operation of summer tires have become resolved, it is necessary to move on to the selection of the tires themselves.

Summer tires rating 2015 - 2016 published by the magazine "Za Rulem"

This publication presents tire models from the most popular manufacturers - Kama Euro and Cordiant, to top models from world firms - Michelin and Pirelli. Also on display were models from Goodyear, Nokian, Hankook, Continental, Goodyear, Toyo and Bridgerstone.

So, let's start looking at the main indicators. Let's start from the end, namely with the model Kama Euro 129.

The rubber was really created taking into account the roads in Russia - strong and with increased wear resistance. Hence, there are positive results when passing the track and a confident exit from there. But only the transition to a good asphalt pavement deteriorates the results. Excessive noise appears, with sharp maneuvers in emergency situations it does not behave in the best way. Hence the low score and the last place in the rating.

The only indisputable advantage that Kama Euro manages to keep is its pricing policy. A set of 4 tires is the most affordable of all those presented on the test.

Cordiant Sport 3- the next instance in this rating. The pricing policy of this manufacturer is close to the most affordable. Depending on the place of sale, prices are on par with Kama. This model is aimed at driving on an asphalt surface, which is additionally indicated to us by the Sport prefix and the appearance of the tread. Hence, as many as two negative points follow - pebbles often remain in the tread and add unpleasant sounds in motion, and when driving off-road, it is easy to sit down even in sand. According to the experts "Za Rulem", this is an example of an affordable model that does not surprise with its characteristics and is suitable for a measured movement of the average car owner.

Bridgestone Ecopia EP200
Is one of the most common models in the variety of the great tire manufacturer. By the way, they are produced in Thailand. During their tests on test cars, an increased fuel consumption was noticed, as well as low adhesion properties during sharp maneuvers in an emergency, both on dry and wet asphalt. Otherwise, when operating these tires in urban areas without extreme loads, this is the most optimal ratio of price and balanced performance.

Toyo Proxes CF2
... Test drivers with this particular model have noted reduced fuel consumption. In addition, this is the most affordable copy with the inscription "Made in Japan". Otherwise, it shows excellent results on asphalt surfaces, but absolutely useless in off-road conditions and even sand.

Nokian nordman sx
became a sensation in the price-quality category. The model shows excellent handling and lack of noise, as well as the absence of increased fuel consumption. There are practically no obvious flaws.

Hankook Ventus Prime 2... It was this instance that rediscovered the driver's properties of the car and was the first to please in all parameters of handling and comfort. Only the price can really upset, and also their off-road operation, judging by the reviews of the owners, often led to damage.

Michelin primacy 3 opens the four winners. The model will delight you with precise handling, regardless of whether it is wet or dry asphalt on the road, as well as on all other points, including the absence of noise, reduced fuel consumption and ride comfort.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance- the model of the German tire manufacturer, which showed the best handling on wet pavement (and even the leader of the test). And if you move the car on these tires on dry asphalt - there is something to worry about. The coupling properties are clearly out of order here. But all this can manifest itself only in extreme situations. With quiet driving in city traffic, you will get comfort for a very affordable price.

Nokian hakka blue
- the softest rubber that has shown balanced performance and comfort on all surfaces. Surprisingly, it combines excellent handling on all asphalt options.

And finally, the model of the Italian tire industry leader became the undisputed leader - Pirelli Cinturato P7... The model stands out for all test indicators, as well as for individual sellers it can please with a price tag.

Which summer tires are the best according to reviews?

By asking this question, a slightly different rating is drawn, in contrast to what is obtained from the testers of the magazine "Za Rulem".

Almost unanimously all tire owners Nordman SX note their excellent performance when combined with an affordable price. Perhaps the latter factor is achieved by the transfer of its production to the territory of Russia.

  • “Used 195/65 / R15. Due to the presence of longitudinal grooves, they resist aquaplaning without any problems. Not a single hernia for 30,000 km, where I caught 3 pieces on Barum. And even quieter are Kordiant and Barum Brilliantis - they were the ones before this model. When driving smoothly, first of all, on the highway, if judged by the wear indicator, it was erased by half. I am glad." Andrey

  • “I left for two seasons, I am satisfied with the tires! According to the rating in the magazine "Za Rulem", they are the ones who occupy the 1st place in the price-quality group, which is why they took them. Simply put, I advise! You can't find anything cheaper and with better characteristics! " Seryoga

  • “Unmatched rubber! I chose between her and the Chinese brand. As already understood, I preferred it, tk. psychologically not ready to trust Chinese brands. Rubber has shown itself in a year, be healthy - it cuts water at once, in turns on wet asphalt 100-120 km / h - easily (I'm afraid faster), in a straight line 160 - holds the road. " Vovchik

  • “Good road holding! In the rain, I have never felt avkaplaning, even when on the highway from a hill I drove into a huge kalyuzha at 120 km / h! Strong, I thought a couple of times that I would catch a hernia - but no, it survived. At the start, it hooks perfectly. We must try to get the sound of screeching! And turns are unusually confident, even when loading a car of 4 people + luggage. " Arthur

Also model from Michelin car owners liked it. Unfortunately, the price tag is not democratic for them, but the tires will please with performance characteristics.

Here are the words of the real owners of the Michelin Primacy 3:

  • “This rubber is quieter and softer than any Bridgestone and even softer than the Pilot. Hence the grip is different, and the inhibition. But all this will show up on the track. Nice business in the city and on the highway! Everything with her - handling, acoustic and other comfort! At first, the braking was not enough, but then I honed this habit. I recently put wheels with this rubber for the third season. " Sanyok

  • “Rubber justifies the cost on all counts. For the sake of experiment, I wanted to put the wheels on a smaller diameter in order to achieve comfort and put rubber with a large profile. As a result, this Michelin was bought for R16 wheels. Glad like an elephant! The tires have proven themselves brilliantly in all conditions! Both in the city and outside the city, in places where no one has seen asphalt, the car drives very gently! The suspension tolerates bumps more calmly, and on the track I hear only a breeze, because the noise from it is minimal! From the first days, as Primacy 3 shod, I instantly noticed that the car began to brake much more confidently. Compared to Continental Sport, this Michelin is better in all respects! " Toha

  • “Quiet. Soft. Excellent road holding under any weather conditions. I did not find any flaws. " Alexander

And if to the reviews about the question "Which summer tires are better?" add wheel diameter by 16 inches?

The picture will be similar, because "Behind the wheel" they tested tires on a golf-class car. And if the rubber is in the R15 dimension, all standard sizes and R16 are necessarily produced. Such is the law for a tire company.

Here are examples of Michelin Primacy 3 reviews in R16 dimension:

  • “The driving style is calm. I drive Focus 2 on 205 R16 tires. Awfully glad, I like everything! During 2 seasons, I hit 10-15 thousand km, and the tires are in good condition. If you keep your driving style, you will have a couple more seasons. " Zheka

  • “Too soft and quiet, super road holding on dry asphalt! Of course, an acceptable price is also important, and with this she has complete order. And the tire fitter noted that he is well balanced. " Oleg

Concluding this article, we note that any rubber is good for a calm driving style and driving on flat surfaces. If you have deviations on one of these points - make a choice from all the variety on the market.

Tire makers have long caught up with car makers in terms of the speed of new models being introduced to the market. Even specialists are not immediately able to find their bearings in new products, and even more so, it is difficult for ordinary car enthusiasts.

To facilitate this task, this review-rating of common summer tire models has been prepared. Let's make a reservation right away, if some models are not included in this rating, this does not mean that they are worse than those mentioned. The fact is that some tires have not yet received sufficient distribution in our country and because of this they cannot yet enter the rating.

The main struggle for leadership unfolded between the traditional market leaders Continental, Nokian and Bridgestone. And if the first two brands were long-standing competitors, now Bridgestone has also shown an improvement in the characteristics of its products, approaching the recognized market leaders.

This assessment of summer tires is carried out on a 100-point scale. First of all, we will evaluate the driving performance, comfort, as well as technical characteristics and price. We deliberately left aside the design assessment, because, firstly, this question is rather for an amateur, someone likes one tread pattern, another is different. Secondly, now the fashion of ten years ago has passed, when everyone wanted either low-profile protectors, or with a pattern "like on racing cars." Now everyone is interested in more practical questions: how it drives, how it slows down, how long it will take on our roads, etc.

12th place Premiorri Solazo V.

The only serious advantage of this model is the low price achieved through manufacturing in Ukraine. This became possible thanks to the contract between Premiorri and the Ukrainian plant Rosava.

Primiorri Solazo has been produced since 2010, at the same time supplies to the Russian market began.

The car "shod" in Solazo does not give a feeling of comfort, the steering wheel is extremely light, there is absolutely no feedback from the steering wheel. In order to clearly control the lane, you have to make a lot of unnecessary movements and twist the steering wheel to large angles.

With sudden changes of lane, the reaction to the steering wheel is delayed, control over handling is reduced, up to a complete loss. Braking is equally hesitant on dry and wet asphalt.

The softness indicators are very good, any irregularities are extinguished, but at the same time the rumble from the tread is very noticeable. The rolling quality is not up to par, in neutral the speed begins to drop rapidly. But when driving on a dirt road, they give a feeling of confidence.

+ Pros: Smooth, soft ride. Clear movement on the dirt road.

- Cons: Poor road holding. Loses controllability during sharp maneuvering. Increases fuel consumption. Noisy.

These tires should be looked at by supporters of measured driving, who often have to go on unpaved surfaces.

RATING: 80.6 / 100 POINTS

11th place Viatti Strada Asimmetrico V.

The beautiful Italian name did not help Nizhnekamsk producers much, although if we take the price / quality combination, then Viatti certainly gives good indicators.

Braking is frankly weak, on dry surfaces it wins only against Premiorri and Cordiant, on wet surfaces - an obvious outsider, perhaps a little better than Yokagama. The level of communication with the steering wheel and information content is very similar to the "Premiorri", it also needs constant steering. Although at low speeds the changes are quite clear, especially at the beginning of the maneuver, but at the end there is still a slight skid. On wet asphalt, when changing lanes, you can feel the front part of the car, which requires a quick steering response.

Comfort from "Viatti" is also very doubtful, pulsating noise is constantly heard, the slightest irregularities in the road are transmitted to the body by vibration and jolts. With equal pumping, the rear wheels feel stiffer. Good rolling performance contributes to fuel economy. They are confident on a dirt road.

+ Pros: Confident control of the machine on a dirt road.

- Cons: Poor grip and poor maneuvering on any surface. Lack of sufficient comfort.

This model is suitable for moderate driving on good roads, and for unpaved surfaces.

RATING: 83/100 POINTS

10th place Yokohama C.drive 2 V.

Despite the average test results, the model made in the Philippines is not offered at an average price, which certainly does not speak in its favor. It has appeared on the Russian market since 2010.

Braking performance is almost identical to that shown by Viatti, and on the wet road - an absolute outsider in the rating.

At high speeds, they clearly hold the road, but when maneuvering, there is not enough information content and steering is required. In case of sudden rearrangements, there is clearly not enough steering angle, which is why you have to turn the steering wheel to large angles.

At maximum speeds, it gives a deep skid, which can be corrected by a driver with a good reaction.

On a flat road, the tread makes a moderate noise, which increases noticeably on rough asphalt and on small bumps. Vibrations from small irregularities are clearly transmitted to the body.

In terms of rolling measurements, Yokohama tires showed the best result, at any speed they give good fuel economy. Demonstrate uncertain behavior on a dirt road.

+ Pros: Thanks to good rolling, it saves fuel at any speed. Good stability.

- Cons: Very poor braking on wet roads, poor handling during emergency maneuvers.

These tires will be appreciated by those for whom fuel economy is important.

RATING: 83.9 / 100 POINTS

9th place Cordiant Sport 2 (PS-501) V.

The model is a domestic development, with a good price / quality ratio.

"Cordiant-Sport 2" first appeared on sale in 2010, then it was replaced in 2012 by a modernized version.

The tires showed the worst braking performance on dry roads. The difference in stopping distance between the leader of the test and "Kordiant" was almost 6 meters. At the same time, on wet surfaces, the performance is noticeably better and can qualify for a satisfactory grade.

At high speeds, they confidently keep a straight line, but the information content is still not enough, moreover, there is a delay in the reactions.

On a dry road, extreme maneuvering at medium speeds is possible, attempts to do it at a higher speed are very difficult due to low information content and increased steering angles. When maneuvering on wet asphalt, at the beginning, the front wheels slip outward, as if straightening the trajectory, because of this, you have to turn the steering wheel to the desired angle, which, again, is not just due to poor information content.

Tires dampen large irregularities well, but on medium-sized ones, they transmit shaking to the body. And with small cracks or roughness, they begin to make a distinct noise.

They roll badly, which negatively affects fuel consumption. Driving on a dirt road with Cordiant-Sport 2 is a dubious pleasure.

+ Pros: Quite passable handling and directional stability on dry surfaces. Quite comfortable movement.

- Cons: Very inconclusive dry braking and heavy maneuvering on wet asphalt. Increases fuel consumption.

Suitable for city driving, with trips to the suburbs.

RATING: 85.7 / 100 POINTS

8th place Goodyear EfficientGrip V.

The French model did not receive a higher rating primarily due to the high price.

This Goodear model has been produced since 2009 and hit the Russian market in 2010.

Braking ratings are quite good. On both wet and dry asphalt, the average performance of the tested tires was obtained.

At high speeds, the car "floats" slightly, alignment is difficult due to the lagging steering wheel.

What you should definitely not do on these tires is sudden lane changes. On dry surfaces, you have to limit the speed due to the noticeable drift of the front wheels at the beginning of the maneuver and skidding of the rear at the end. On a wet surface, the situation is a little better, but the picture is spoiled by large turning angles and sharp breaks into a skid when exiting it.

The tires demonstrated the traditional Goodyear level of comfort, with a soft and quiet ride. "Efficient" help to save fuel, especially in the suburban driving cycle. Departure on a primer without special need is not recommended.

+ Pros: Excellent level of comfort, fuel economy when traveling out of town.

- Cons: Directional stability is below average, heavy handling during extreme maneuvers.

Goodyear Efficiency Grip is well suited for those who like comfortable and economical driving.

RATING: 87.1 / 100 POINTS

7th place Dunlop SP Sport 9000 W.

This Japanese model has already become a veteran in our tire market, but at the same time, it is still in considerable demand.

Braking performance on dry roads is below average, and even less on wet ones. Only Yokohama and Viatti have worse performance.

At high speeds, it keeps its course perfectly. The main distinguishing feature of the Dunlop SP Sport is clear reactions to the steering wheel, it is very easy to adjust the course. On dry surfaces, sharp maneuvers can be carried out at medium speed. It instantly reacts to the steering wheel at the beginning of the maneuver, although then there is a slight demolition of the front end, with a simultaneous drop in the steering wheel information content. On wet roads, maneuverability is improved and emergency lane changes can be made at higher speeds. However, when the maximum speed is exceeded, a slide off the course occurs, and simultaneously on both axes. After drifting or skidding, adhesion to the surface is quickly restored.

The level of driving comfort with Dunlop is low, the tread rustles distinctly, the noise increases noticeably on rough asphalt. Any minor irregularities in the road are transmitted to the body.

The tires showed good rolling performance. Provide confident movement on the dirt road.

+ Pros: High directional stability at high speeds, excellent movement on a dirt road. Provides an economical ride.

- Cons: Poor comfort level. Poor braking on wet asphalt.

These tires are perfect for long journeys on roads with smooth and hard surfaces.

RATING: 87.6 / 100 POINTS

6th place Hankook Ventus Prime 2 (К 115) V.

Hungarian tires have shown good performance and in all fairness we can say that it is from their 6th place that the elite group of very good tires begins.

Tires are a novelty on the Russian market, sales began in 2012.

Ventus Prime demonstrated excellent braking qualities, especially well on wet roads, on dry surfaces a little weaker, but still quite good.

Keeping course well at high speeds, however, slightly lacking information for heading corrections. Another "sin" is the delay in steering response. On dry pavement, maneuvers at speeds above average are permissible. Light drifts at the exit of the maneuver are fairly easily leveled out. A wet road has practically no negative impact on the nature of the management and the success of rebuilding.

The tires are quite noisy; when driving at speeds above 80 km / h, the feeling of riding on all-terrain treads is created. Ventus Prime behaves rigidly on all surfaces and increases fuel consumption at all speeds. The indicators of movement on the primer are average.

+ Pros: Brakes well on any surface. Demonstrates stable handling.

- Cons: Increases fuel consumption. Notes on noise comfort and directional stability.

Good tires for paved roads.

RATING: 89.9 / 100 POINTS

5th place Toyo Praxes T1 Sport W.

This Japanese manufacturer has repeatedly proven the success of its brand, which is invariably present in the top of many tire ratings.

The model has been presented in Russia since the end of 2009.

Braking distances on dry roads are average and above average on wet asphalt.

Directional stability at high speeds is good, the tires give ease of course corrections and smoothness when changing lanes. The steering response is crisp and the steering angles are small. A wet coating practically does not change the characteristics, only a slightly faster reaction is required with extreme drift.

Toyo Praxes tires are quite quiet, only when driving on rough asphalt they become a little louder. Small irregularities in the road give off vibrations to the body. Fuel consumption readings are average, with increasing speeds they increase consumption. Driving on a dirt road is average.

+ Pros: Stable handling on dry and wet surfaces.

- Cons: Increased fuel consumption during out-of-town trips. Minor complaints about smoothness and noise.

Good tires for mixed highway / city driving.

RATING: 91.5 / 100 POINTS

4th place Michelin Primacy HP V.

The German brand, as always, is at its best and, despite the sufficient age of the model, about 8 years, is still in demand.

The model demonstrates excellent braking performance, similar to the previous model in the rating. Performance is slightly weaker than Toyo's on wet roads and slightly better on dry.

The tires keep the direction well and provide adequate responses during course corrections.

On a dry road, he demonstrates clear behavior with clear reactions. On wet surfaces, the performance drops slightly. By avoiding sudden steering movements, drifts will be minimized.

When driving on a good road, no extraneous noise is emitted. Irregularities and road joints are reflected on the body by sudden jerks.

Help conserve fuel during moderate driving. When driving on the highway, they give average indicators of efficiency. The primer is medium tolerated.

+ Pros: Stable handling. Fuel economy.

- Cons: Minor complaints about ride and noise.

Suitable for urban and suburban use.

RATING: 91.7 / 100 POINTS

3rd place Pirelli Cinturato P7 V.

An excellent Romanian model, who has slightly lost her last year's positions in front of the newcomers, but still remains on the podium. In addition, it is the best model in terms of price / quality ratio. Pirelli Cinturato has been sold in Russia since 2010.

The tires show excellent braking performance, especially on wet surfaces.

There are no complaints about directional stability at high speeds. They allow you to make maneuvers at high speeds, on dry roads they allow you to make sharp lane changes.

The driving style and the lack of surprises are reminiscent of Michelin and Bridgestone. They demonstrate high speed on wet asphalt, only half a kilometer was not enough to reach the record figure of this test. The reactions on the steering wheel are very clear, if not for the sharp drifts at the exit from the turn, there could be a maximum score.

Pirelli Cinturato are a little noisy, they spank at the joints. Small irregularities are transmitted to the body. Regardless of the driving mode, they have no particular effect on consumption or fuel economy. Not very suitable for priming.

+ Pros: They brake well on any surface. Provide good handling.

- Cons: High noise level, not very smooth running.

An excellent choice for dynamic drivers, as well as for frequent out-of-town trips.

RATING: 91.9 / 100 POINTS

2nd place Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 V.

Fresh French model on the Russian market with a good price / quality ratio.

Record braking results on all types of asphalt. The difference in stopping distance between the outsider of the test "Kordiant" and "Conti Premium" was about 6 meters, with "Yokohama" more than 5 meters.

The tires allow for extreme maneuvers at high speeds, and the steering wheel provides clear and crisp responses. A characteristic feature of the Continental is its large steering angles, which decrease as the tires warm up.

Wet surface does not negatively affect speed performance.

The tires demonstrated excellent comfort, perfectly dampen bumps and road noise. They give a good combination of soft yet firm driving.

The rolling level is average, roughly comparable to the Pirelli. Not suitable for ground coats.

+ Pros: Best braking performance on any road, excellent comfort.

- Cons: Notes on extreme dry handling.

The average price in Russia is 4800 rubles.

The best tire in terms of braking performance.

RATING: 93.5 / 100 POINTS

1st place Bridgestone Potenza S001V.

A well-deserved place for the Japanese model.

Demonstrates excellent braking performance on all types of asphalt. The truth is slightly inferior to the "Continental" on dry, only a little bit, and 1 meter on wet.

The Bridgesone Potenza shows good directional stability, the same as the Dunlop. A characteristic feature of this model is a very clear response to course corrections. Absolute winner of the extreme maneuvering speed competition, on dry and wet asphalt. It should be noted the high degree of information content of the steering wheel, especially on a wet road.

Unfortunately, comfort falls short of the high level of driving performance. Irregularities and joints give off noise, rustling is clearly audible on the rough asphalt.

The rolling indicators are the same as those of the Continental and Pirelli, there is no particular savings, but they also do not add to fuel consumption. Not very suitable for priming.

+ Pros: Very good braking performance. Clear directional stability, high speed maneuvers.

- Cons: The tires are noisy and harsh.

Perfect for country driving, on quality paved roads. Will appeal to fans of extreme driving.

In short, I think either Lopez or Larsen ... ??? What to take? xs ...

I would not say that the Lopez roll is much worse than the Larsen. He holds it for sure better. It was just that there were all Lopes, Larsen, Holyroller. Larsen is narrower than everyone else, but it's not really visible, it's just that the Lopez has more side spikes and it seems wider. In the city I ride on Holyrollers, their roll-off is steeper all the same, If there is more soil, then Lopez and Larsen, If mini DH Lopez is in the back, Highroller is in front.

By the way, I don't really like Larsen's grip on descents, put it on the backside. Although I may be spoiled for soft compound high rollers. They hold a lot better.

Very good tires.

Value for money - 2.82

The best brakes on the verge of a block on dry asphalt, very good on wet with any braking method, good ride, handling on wet.

Low complex of lateral grip properties and drift characteristics on dry asphalt, high rolling resistance at low speeds.

Amtel Planet 2P

10th place

Manufacturer - Russia

855 points

Tread depth - 7.7 mm

Tire weight - 7.0 kg

Price in Moscow - 1250 rubles.

Value for money - 1.46

Amtel is the leader among post-Soviet tires. What is remarkable about it?

In terms of fuel efficiency, he won over everyone, but this is where, apart from the good smoothness of the ride, the advantages of Amtel end. The noise rating is mediocre.

The handling is at a modest level, the speed at the "rearrangement" is low, on any surface the car behaves "smeared".

It is possible to brake reliably, as on the Kama, only on dry asphalt, and only with a skid. On a wet road, it is better to keep a little more distance, since you have to calculate the braking distance with a margin.

You can move off the asphalt only in dry weather.

The best in terms of economy, decent braking on dry pavement (per block), good ride.

Bad brakes on the verge of slipping on any surface, and skidding on wet asphalt. Loud noise.

Kama 224

11th place

Manufacturer - Russia (NkShZ)

842.4 points

Tread depth - 7.0-8.2 mm

Tire weight - 7.5 kg

Price in Moscow - 1250 rubles.

Value for money - 1.48

Nizhnekamsk also lack stars from the sky, although in the overall standings they are slightly ahead of MShZ and Rosava.

Efficiency "Euro" - at an average level, you can not say about comfort - the tire is hard and noisy.

There are no serious complaints about handling, but there is no enthusiasm either. The lack of information content on the steering wheel did not allow achieving high speed on the "rearrangement".

The brakes are good only on dry asphalt, but only with skidding. Emergency braking without blocking gives a very modest result.

But in terms of cross-country ability - the best. Of course, they do not turn into an all-terrain vehicle "Kalina", but they go on a wet dirt road and on wet grass.

Good brakes on dry asphalt with locked wheels, good cross-country ability.

Poor brakes on wet with any type of braking and dry braking on the verge of blocking, high rolling resistance, hard.

Rosava BC-49

12th place

Manufacturer - Ukraine

804.5 points

Tread depth - 6.4-6.9 mm

Tire weight - 7.4 kg

Price in Moscow - 950 rubles.

Value for money - 1.18

Summer "Rosava" for the first time participates in the tests of the ZR. The level of Ukrainian tires is quite modest - slightly better than Leader, but in general, both outsiders are on the same level. It will not be possible to save fuel on these tires - the consumption is too high. The level of comfort is noticeably better than that of the "Taganka" - the ride is the same, but the "Ukrainians" are much quieter.

Handling scores are the lowest. The Kalina, shod in Rosava, has a slow reaction to steering on dry asphalt, but on wet asphalt you have to turn it very smoothly, otherwise you risk losing grip.

The brakes are effective only when the wheels are locked.

You can only drive on dirt roads on dry land.

Low noise level, good brakes "on the block", decent cross-country ability.

Poor handling in extreme modes, poor brakes on the verge of wheel locking, low directional stability.

Taganca M-238 Leader

13th place

Manufacturer - Russia (MShZ)

793 points

Tread depth - 7.5 mm

Tire weight - 7.0 kg

Price in Moscow - 900 rubles.

Value for money - 1.13

Features - asymmetric tread pattern

The only tire that did not score 800 points in the test. Showed only good fuel efficiency. With comfort, the situation is contradictory - the ride is almost good, but the noise is strong, like from winter studded tires. Handling is tolerable only on dry asphalt, on wet "Kalina" unexpectedly breaks into a deep skid, which only a well-trained driver can handle. The brakes are frankly weak.

The peculiarity of these tires is a sharp drop in grip on wet surfaces. Drive off the asphalt with a glance - "Leader" can slip into a slip even on a dry primer.

Good fuel efficiency, decent ride.

Low grip on wet surfaces, poor brakes and directional stability, loud noise.

Changing tires is a mandatory procedure that motorists undergo twice a year.

Finding tons of tips on how to choose winter or summer tires on the web is easy. You can also ask the seller which rubber is best for cold or hot weather. However, there is one feature that is very often overlooked: the fact is that in the summer season, a lot of people go to the country. Accordingly, the asphalt is replaced by a dirt road. And this leaves a certain imprint on choosing the right tires.

Important rules for choosing tires for city and country trips

When planning to drive on unpaved and asphalt roads, it is very important to choose "fresh" rubber that will last a long time and will not crack from temperature extremes. The manufacturer must indicate the stamping date. If the seller hides it for some reason, then the fresher product can be identified by its color - it will be saturated black. The shade of old rubber becomes recognizable gray. For active summer trips, you need tires no more than a year old.

Choosing a tread pattern for summer

Sellers now offer three options for summer protectors:

  • asymmetric;
  • symmetrical directional;
  • symmetrical non-directional.

The asymmetrical pattern with deeply traced grooves allows for good grip on the asphalt road. Moreover, if it suddenly rains, it is better to reduce the speed to a minimum, such a protector does not remove water from under the wheels. Symmetrical tires with non-directional patterns are good against aquaplaning. However, it is they who behave badly on unpaved tracks, since dirt is stuffed into the grooves, small stones get there, which get stuck in the gaps and reduce traction. Tires with directional symmetrical patterns will be somewhat more comfortable. For such

Ground tires. Their features and differences. Nuances of construction of MT and AT tires

The first cars were SUVs. All without exception! There were simply no other options then. But the asphalt pavements that appeared then gradually divided the cars into "parquet", all-terrain and completely off-road. Tractors, mining dump trucks and other agricultural and special equipment fell into the category of “completely off-road”. Their rubber has powerful lugs, reinforced sidewalls and is not suitable for driving at high speeds. True, they do not need it. After all, their purpose is to move and perform a variety of work on the ground, allowing not only to drive, but also to confidently maneuver. This rubber most often has a clearly pronounced directional herringbone pattern and, when slipping, throws out adhering clods of earth from the tread, preventing the tire from “blurring”, turning into a slick. The same or very similar rubber is used by athletes participating in road races on mud.

MT tire design and construction allows you to ride
on them on serious off-road and on paved roads

For snow and swamps, there is a different design - the so-called ultra-low pressure tires. They not only easily overcome any swamps, but even give the car buoyancy. Wide "dutik" create so low ground pressure that they allow you to move, leaving almost no traces. Impressive! Why aren't ordinary SUVs fitted with these tires? The fact is that special off-road tires, firstly, are extremely poorly controlled on asphalt, secondly, they are not designed for high speed and, thirdly, they wear out very quickly on hard surfaces. Therefore, for cars that often drive onto the ground, they make a special, so-called "mud" rubber, which in the name has the abbreviation MT, which literally means Mud Terrain - for mud coverage. Its construction and design allow you to make both long runs on asphalt and fairly confident maneuvers on the ground. These tires are most often produced in large sizes, because they are usually placed on elevator cars. So the standard size of MT-rubber may not be found.

Let's take a look at the tread design of these tires using the popular Toyo Open Country MT mud tire as an example. First of all, the pattern is very aggressive, the blocks have a hook-shaped profile that allows them to literally bite into any soil with their teeth. The open, almost rectangular shoulder sipes act like gears, sinking into the ruts and allowing you to pull out, even if the ruts are very deep and slippery. But that's not all! The tread pattern of this MT tire does not end with the shoulder area, but continues further down the sidewall of the tire. Why is this done? Few people know that with high articulation of the suspension, the tire is often in contact with the ground only with its sidewall. And, of course, a tire with lugs on the sidewall will work much more efficiently in such a situation.

AT tires are designed for high mileage on asphalt
and confident movement on the ground, except for extreme off-road

Yes, but all this serves for confident work on the ground, but what about the asphalt? What about handling, wear and noise? For a long service life on hard surfaces, as well as reliable handling of the car, such a tire has a structure of three layers of polyester with a high curl of the edges (in conventional tires, two layers), which also gives high strength (significantly strengthens the entire tire carcass). And for excellent grip on wet asphalt (the main problem with all mud tires), there are deep sipes in the tread blocks. And in order to reduce noise and get rid of resonant hum, all tread parts are of different sizes. But it is important to remember that such rubber is still for those who often drive into real mud, that is, for real off-road driving and even racing fans. For example, the Open Country MT model is actively used at the Dakar.

And for those who have a calmer temperament, who prefer to go around serious dirt, but still drive off the asphalt, there is a special class of rubber, which is designated by the abbreviation AT, or All Terrain, which literally means "for all surfaces." This rubber has a less aggressive tread pattern than MT and is built to last. But at the same time it allows you to confidently move along the ground. On the ground, not extreme off-road! And the dimensions allow you to install it instead of standard tires on a regular unprepared SUV or crossover. The design and construction of such tires are dictated by the peculiarities of their application. Consider AT tires using the example of the same Toyo Open Country, but this time with the designation A / T plus. Since these tires drive a lot on asphalt, gravel, rolled grader roads and dirt roads, the tread design is also quite aggressive, but at the same time it is far from the aggressiveness of MT. The tread pattern of the A / T plus is asymmetrical, allowing the outside of the tire to work as a sidewall off-road. The aggressive outer shoulder, typical of mud work, allows for firm grip on the ground in a rut. And the inner side of the tread serves for reliable grip on asphalt, providing excellent braking, controllability and high wear resistance, while reducing noise levels. The edges of the central blocks of the tread are stepped, this allows for increased forward and reverse traction on all types of soil. Well, and, of course, there was also high technology and a special composition of the rubber compound. Thanks to the addition of silicon dioxide, it improves wet performance and rolling resistance, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and increases service life. Clear? Well, let's move on.

High curvature of the carcass ply gives excellent handling and stability

REGULAR QUESTIONS

Very often the question arises of how to choose the right discs for MT-rubber when installed on an elevated machine. The general rule of thumb is that the rim should be two inches narrower than the tire. This allows the tire to properly tread at different pressures and not bend.

Whether it is necessary to balance oversized mud tires is another question. Our opinion is that if the imbalance of a tire measuring 33 inches or more is within 100 grams, there is no point in balancing the MT. It is very heavy in itself, and besides, having driven along the side of the road and hitting a large piece of dirt with the sidewall, you immediately disrupt the balance, and significantly. As a general rule, wash your tires and rims after each ride through mud and do not accelerate with MT-tires above 110 km / h. Then there will be no strong imbalance, and the tires will last a long time. AT tires are another matter. They are much lighter and are not prone to carrying dirt on themselves, and most importantly, they travel at much higher speeds. They, of course, need to be balanced.

How to choose the size of discs for mounting rubber
oversized and do you need to balance large wheels?

Another important issue is the choice of pressure when driving on asphalt. If we are talking about regular size tires, the answer is simple - see the manual. But when installing large tires on an elevated SUV, the answer is no longer so obvious. As a general rule, the larger the tire size in relation to the standard one, the lower the working pressure in it on the asphalt should be. If the tire is inflated, then the central track quickly wears out, the car easily breaks into a slip and bounces unpleasantly at every junction of the asphalt. An under-inflated tire heats up noticeably and wears out quickly. It slows down in steering response and crumbles monstrously in corners. Determining the optimal pressure is not that difficult. If you have driven a dozen or two kilometers and the rubber tread is warm to the touch, the pressure in the tire is normal. If it is hot, and it is obviously felt with your hand, increase the pressure, it is too low. If the tread is completely cold, you can safely lower the pressure by a couple of tenths of an atmosphere and try it again. But we will tell you about how much tire pressure to use when driving on the ground in the following lessons.
