There is only one detail worth paying attention to when evaluating the exterior of the Grand C-MAX: this is the first European Ford with sliding rear doors. The design is convenient for parking, really making it easier to access the third row of seats, and in general, it is eminently practical.

Did I like the C-MAX inside? As a roomy family car - yes, of course. It is thought out in great detail. But I would also say it in too much detail. The driver's seat is like a pilot or a DJ: buttons on the steering wheel with which you can control information on two screens, steering column switches, a center console "a la mobile phone"- it's hard to figure it out right away. A few hours of driving was not enough to get used to this abundance. The question remained unanswered: Do I need all this?

What's great without any "buts": the seat folding system. A 7-seater car can easily be converted into a 6-seater, and also just into a 5-seater. Folding unfolding is carried out with one hand, and the developers from Ford do it so cleverly that it becomes clear: 5-6 attempts and you will do it just as smartly.

The basic version will not be equipped with a third row of seats. But as an option, it is relatively inexpensive in Russia - 23,900 rubles. For me, the price is reasonable, and if you have to carry more than 4 passengers it is worth spending this money.

Of course, the third row of seats is designed primarily for children. I would say that a person taller than 160-165 cm in the rear seats will be cramped. However, adults of this height are not uncommon ...

Let's get back to the options: a lot of everything can be installed in the Grand C-MAX. For example, the system of active parking assistance, new for European "Fords". Also, we were not able to evaluate the entire line of motors. Only one - 140-horsepower Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel - a joy for a family European. Yes, acceleration is quicker, but constant gear changes are very tiring. Moreover, you have to work with your feet to the fullest: the pedal travel in the Grand C-MAX is very large.

The interiors of these cars are similar only in transformation capabilities. You open the sliding doors (the Mazda5 also has an electric drive controlled from the driver's seat) and you find yourself in a salon that can be rebuilt like children's cubes. In the trunks of both cars, seats that fold into the floor are installed, on which, if desired, you can ride even two men with a height and fatness above average (checked). The seats of the second (middle) row, if necessary, are not only folded down, but also dismantled. There are fastenings for Isofix child seats, and plastic folding tables are attached to the backs of the front seats.

Of course, with the third row unfolded, there is very little space in the luggage compartments of both cars - only about 60 liters, which is enough only for one large suitcase or a couple of small ones. But at the same time, in both salons there are many shelves and containers for storing small things. So toys on a long journey, you can pick up a wagon.

The interior of the Grand C-MAX is made in a futuristic key, typical for the new Focus III... Lining for aluminum, "tricky" steering wheel, display on the dashboard ... Against this background, the interior of the Mazda5 looks like the embodiment of healthy conservatism. Although it also has its own "chips" - for example, the visor of the instrument panel, reminiscent of the visor of a knight's helmet, red stitching on black leather (for such a salon they take a surcharge) ...

That's where the difference is! The five-speed "automatic" in combination with a 2-liter 144-horsepower engine gives the Mazda5 a moderate temperament. With each new passenger, the dynamic properties deteriorate, and when the passenger compartment is fully loaded, overtaking has to be planned ahead of time, not hoping that "the engine will take out." True, the "five" turns sour if there are seven adults in it. It's easier with children.

The suspension is clearly tuned for comfort: it copes well with small things, but large potholes must be avoided. Steering also without excessive sharpness - the steering wheel can be shaken without fear that the car will jump into the next row. In general, in the behavior of this minivan, some Americanism is noticeable. It even manifests itself in the fact that the car has imperfect sound insulation (although they seriously worked on it, compared to the previous Mazda5).

The Ford C-MAX, on the other hand, is 100% European. Under the hood sits a 182-horsepower supercharged EcoBoost mated to a 6-speed mechanical transmission, so the dynamics of this car leaves nothing to be desired. Driving pleasure is added by the dense suspension, which keeps the body from noticeable rolls, and the rather sharp steering. Driving this car, you begin to enjoy, for example, the removed layer of asphalt on the street being repaired. Slalom between the hatches is fun!

True, one has to enjoy the driver's talents of this car only alone, since even the front passenger gets tired at some point and asks to stop exercising and drive calmly. If there are still people in the cabin, even more so on rear seats, it is better not even to start being naughty. They won't enjoy it.

In general, it is difficult to say with confidence which temperament suits family car... Someone believes that a compact van should also be dynamic, since high speed means safety during the same overtaking, and that dads and moms need to be given the opportunity to go as they want - at least when the children are in kindergarten or school and need to rush to work. And someone will argue that this is an extra option, the main thing is space and comfort.

The Mazda5 is simple. In the Russian market, it has only one power unit. The car in the minimum configuration Touring is estimated at 954,000 rubles.
