Chiron's main problems. "Sang Yong Kyron": specifications and reviews. Technical stuffing and equipment

09.10.2016

Ssang Yong Kyron is a car that is loved for its versatility: cross-country ability, spaciousness and comfort. And if we add an affordable price to this good set, then what is not a dream car. True, our motorists are a little afraid of this Korean brand, and sometimes even confuse it with Chinese cars. The reason for this attitude is not even that the car is very unreliable, but because the history of SsangYong in our country is not so long, although this brand has existed since the middle of the last century.

A bit of history:

In 1954, in the era of the war between the two Koreas, the Dong-hwan Motor Company appeared, which produced military equipment. Later, this company expanded its range by adding special equipment, trucks and passenger transport. The name SsangYong appeared in 1984. The Kyron model was first presented to the public in Germany, in 2005, and sales started in 2006. The car was built on the basis of Sang Yong Rexton and almost immediately became the flagship of Korean four-wheel drive cars. The first Sang Yong Kyron was heavily criticized for the Asian style, despite the fact that the author of the design was the Englishman Ken Greenlee. Perhaps this is why, after a year and a half, a restyling was done, the author changed the design and thereby calmed down the European public, unable to accept Asian realities. However, due to its low price and good reliability, Sang Yong Kyron has become one of the best-selling SUVs in the world.

Advantages and disadvantages of Sang Yong Kyron with mileage

The popularity of this car is added by its motors, or rather their noble origin (all installed power units were developed by the company). The most common engine is a diesel engine with a volume of 2.0 (141 hp) and it is its reliability that most of all complaints about. The heat exchanger O-rings require constant monitoring, since they are rather weak in this machine, and if they are weakened, antifreeze will get into the oil, as a result, an emulsion forms in the engine, which accelerates the process of engine wear. Often, the vacuum modulator of a turbocharger fails, as a result, the car significantly loses power. This power unit is equipped with a turbine, and if you use high-quality fuels and lubricants, then it will live quite a long time - 250-300 thousand km. The gas distribution mechanism has a chain drive, the chain is of high quality and is not prone to stretching, but the hydraulic tensioner can fail for 50,000 km (repairs will cost $ 100 -120). The tension roller of the drive belt rarely nurses more than 30,000 km (replacement 40 - 50 cu).

Also, in the secondary market you can find Sang Yong Kyron with a 2.7 liter (186 hp) turbodiesel engine and gasoline engines - 2.3 (150 hp) and 3.2 (220 hp), but such power units very rare, there are practically no statistics on them. Of the most common sores, it can be noted: leakage of the crankshaft oil seal, valve cover gaskets and the failure of their oxygen sensors. All types of engines do not like severe frosts and already at -25 ° C, many owners do not even try to start the car. In megacities, due to exposure to chemicals, the radiator often fails, which gets all the dirt from the road through wide enough holes in the radiator grill.

Transmission

Sang Yong Kyron is equipped with a five-speed manual, four- or five-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of the type of transmission, it is recommended to use only branded oil, called SsangYong, in order to significantly extend the service life of the box. As domestic operating experience has shown, in general, both transmissions are quite reliable, but there are still some minor remarks about them. The manual transmission received a lot of criticism from the owners for the indistinct inclusion of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears (this feature does not affect its reliability in any way). The clutch and release bearing in a mechanical box runs 130 - 150 thousand km, on every second car, at the same mileage, you have to change the dual-mass flywheel, and this pleasure is not cheap. Automatic transmission does not work quite correctly (jerking, jerking during gear changes); the problem is fixed by installing a newer firmware.

Many people buy this model for its cross-country ability, and for the fact that it is equipped with all the joys of a mushroom picker and a hunter, which are less and less common in modern crossovers. And in order for this joy to last as long as possible, one should not neglect the maintenance of the transmission and the peculiarities of operation. In a transfer case of the "Part-time" type, special attention is required not only for the oil, but also for the connectors of the mode control electric motor. The contacts of the connectors rot quickly enough, in this regard, the front axle may stop connecting. There is no center differential in the transmission, the front axle is connected rigidly here and this should always be remembered. In no case should you drive on asphalt with a permanently blocked all-wheel drive, otherwise all transmission units will overheat and it will quickly fail.

Suspension Sang Yong Kyron

Sang Yong Kyron is equipped with an independent suspension, which is poorly balanced enough that more than half of the owners improve it on their own. The springs will last for 2-3 years, after which they are changed to non-original ones, for example, from "" or "Sang Yong Rexton". After 50,000 km, the steering shaft cardan begins to loosen, and there have also been cases of rear axle breakage. The steering rack is not repairable, if it starts knocking, it can be tightened.

In the suspension, most often you will have to change:

  • The upper and lower ball joints sometimes do not nurture even 10 thousand km, reinforced ones - enough for 50,000 km.
  • Bushings and stabilizer struts - 30,000 km.
  • Steering tips, depending on operating conditions, will last 40-60 thousand km.
  • Hub bearings - 70,000 km (change assembly with the hub).
  • Steering rods - after 100-120 thousand km (the rods change only when assembled with the steering gear).
  • Shock absorbers - 100-120 thousand km.
Body and interior

The car body consists of three grades of steel, of which the share of high-strength metal is no more than 25%. The metal of the body parts resists the onslaught of the redhead disease well, corrosion in the places of paint chips does not appear even after 2-3 years. The paintwork is strong enough, which is not typical for Korean cars. When inspecting cars produced in 2008-2009, pay special attention to the front left fender in the welding area of the bracket on which the battery is installed - a crack appears in this place over time. Also, there are complaints about the electronic mechanism for folding the mirrors - about once a month the low beam lamps and dimensions burn out.

Sang Yong Kyron is equipped with a large number of electronic circuits and control units connected via CAN-bus, which, by means of digital codes, helps most components and assemblies to interact. And if the car has not been flooded with water, the electronics will work flawlessly. The instrument panel is not part of the overall multiplex wiring system. Therefore, there is a possibility of "twisting" the mileage of the car, since the odometer readings are not duplicated anywhere.

Outcome:

The car has good reliability, handling and functionality. And if we add to this low fuel consumption (on average 8 liters per hundred), good cross-country ability, frame body structure and an adequate price, then we can safely say that Sang Yong Kyron is an ideal option in this segment, both for off-road trips, so and for city driving. But do not forget that buying this used car, there is a high probability of buying a pig in a poke, since many owners use the car for its intended purpose and "kill" the car up to 100,000 km.

Advantages:

  • Affordable price.
  • Spacious salon.
  • Good off-road capability.
  • Frame body structure.

Flaws:

  • Unstable quality.
  • Weak suspension.
  • Expensive service.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

Best regards, AvtoAvenu editorial staff

Quite often you can see Ssangyong Kyron cars on our roads. They look attractive and immediately attract attention. When buying a car, many motorists increasingly prefer this particular brand. And those who have not purchased, but are only going to try to find out as complete and comprehensive information as possible about Sang Yong Kyron cars: reviews of their owners, advantages and disadvantages, ease of maintenance and repair. And this is not surprising, because Korean cars have established themselves as comfortable and reliable, and most importantly, not prohibitively expensive. Thus, motorists have an alternative between cheap, but weak in all respects, Chinese and expensive and high-quality Japanese (we will not touch on the European and American auto industry in this topic).

"Chiron". Start

"Sang Yong Kyron" is one of the highly popular crossovers in the SsangYong range. Its debut took place in the fall of 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The deliveries of the model to the territory of the CIS began in the spring of 2006. The car brought to light an amazing hybrid of unusual solutions of designers and the classic design of an SUV: the latest technical achievements, coupled with an unsurpassed level of convenience and safety of operation in all kinds of road conditions. The designers took as a basis the already tested and positively proven platform from "Rexton". The car turned out to be just what you need: the five-door "Sang Yong Kyron" combines high off-road performance, moderate fuel consumption, as well as convenience, functionality and spaciousness of the cabin.

External appearance

Leading car designer Ken Greenlee emphasized and distinguished this model from other SUVs, attracted the attention of the automotive public with the futuristic look of his brainchild.

From the front "Chiron" looks original and, in general, very modern. The streamlined, chrome-shining radiator grille and non-standard stamping elements on the body draw attention to the car, highlighting it in city traffic, and the impressive wheel arches give the car solidity and respectability.

Interesting not only from the outside

The interior of the car is quite matched to the external appearance. The salon, executed in the same style, will pleasantly surprise you with a variety of interesting solutions. As the designers themselves assure, the car interior is made according to the principle of "calmness and comfort". Indeed, both the driver and passengers feel comfortable and comfortable in the cabin. That is why the center console and the dashboard are made of an unusual shape, and the interior is ergonomic and provides the most comfortable conditions for boarding the driver and passengers. The basic trim is made of high quality materials that are resistant to wear and tear and dirt.

Heart is a fiery motor

Most often, the hood of the Ssangyong Kyron hides a two-liter turbocharged diesel power unit that produces 141 hp. Its Cummon Rail power system is guaranteed to provide the lowest diesel consumption not only in mixed, but also in urban driving cycles. The manufacturer offers a choice of motorists cars with both automatic and manual transmissions. Despite the fact that "Sang Yong Kyron" exists in twenty (!) Modifications, cars with a 4x2 formula and a 2.7 liter diesel engine are not common in the CIS countries.

In addition to diesels, the line of engines is represented by a 2.3 liter petrol engine with a capacity of 150 hp, which meets the highest standards. The engine "Sang Yong Kyron" - a classic in-line four made under license from Mercedes-Benz - guarantees the well-known reliability of the car, less susceptibility to vibration and a longer service life than V-shaped counterparts.

Transmission

As you already understood, the Sang Yong Kyron engine is distinguished by its manufacturability and reliability. To match him and the checkpoint. The motors are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission (also licensed by Mercedes Benz), or a 6-band automatic transmission T-tronic with the option of shifting gears in manual mode.

Additional options

Even a car of basic completeness, or, as they say, "in stock", has a wide range of all kinds of options and bells and whistles. The simplest modification is equipped with anti-lock braking system (ABS), electric windows, electrically adjustable mirrors. In addition, it will be equipped with a climate control system and 2 airbags.

And if you fork out for the richest bundling, then to all of the above is added a genuine leather interior, a rain sensor, an automatic light control system, an exchange rate stability system and front seats with electric adjustment.

Among other things, "Sang Yong Kyron" can be additionally equipped with the Active Rollover Protection system, which helps to prevent the car from overturning, as well as the Hill Descent Control system for downhill descents. Since this is still a crossover, and not a super all-terrain vehicle, that is, design restrictions on cross-country ability, namely, low ground clearance (the manufacturer claims 210 mm under the front axle and 199 mm at the rear), and there is also no engine and gearbox protection.

"Kyron Sang Yong": technical characteristics

The main distinguishing feature of this car from other similar crossovers from other manufacturers is its frame layout. That is, the load from all components and assemblies is carried not by a flimsy stamped body, but by a full-fledged steel ridge that will not be broken by the difficult situations of our roads, often similar to combat conditions. "Sang Yong Kyron": reviews of the owners

According to the reviews of car owners, it is quite difficult to judge the quality and driving characteristics of the car, especially if the reviews are studied on the Internet. This problem was not spared and "Kyron Sang Yong", the technical characteristics of which, in principle, correspond to the price and quality of this class of cars. However, not all buyers, and even more so - Internet users, understand the difference between diesel and gasoline engines (except that some "eat" diesel fuel, and others - gasoline).

For drivers who have switched to "Sang Yong Kyron" -diesel from a gasoline car of the same displacement, acceleration with a sharp depression of the gas pedal will seem weak, but the "tractor" traction at low revs when driving off-road will surprise. Drivers who have changed from a diesel engine to a gasoline one will be pleasantly surprised by the acceleration dynamics on straight sections of the track.

In general, most often the complaints of the owners regarding diesel cars "Sang Yong Kyron", the characteristics of which are in no way inferior to gasoline ones, come down to problems with the fuel system. Tellingly, those who pay little attention to what exactly to fill in the fuel tank complain about.

In addition, they often speak badly about cars assembled in the Russian Federation, and not in Korea.

Someone complains about the weak suspension, forgetting that this crossover in most cases drives on the roads (not always good, but, nevertheless, roads), and not through swamps, the tractor track in the Central Black Earth Region, which has become limp in the autumn-spring muddy roads, or deep snow virgin soil.

Thus, in conclusion, we can say that "Chiron" has its own niche for use, and if you do not demand the impossible from him, then he has the right to a place in your garage.

Is a second-hand SsangYong Kyron a jungle for intrepid explorers or an explored tourist attraction? The conclusions are yours ... About five years ago, when the first Kyrons began their life in the vastness of Russia, the owners more than once received a reason for frustration, because ... they were congratulated on the purchase of a "Chinese".

And don't go to a fortune-teller, it was very unpleasant to hear something like that about a "Korean" who is related to Mercedes itself. We will not dwell on the topic of German-Korean friendship, since we could not find information that can be trusted 100 percent. Although SsangYong dealers claim that the main units are licensed from Mercedes-Benz.

At its core, Kyron is the uazist ideal. Frame, with a two-stage transfer case, very extensive power accessories and a comfortable interior. Not to mention the diesel engine and automatic transmission. And the former relatively low price of new copies at one time, especially after the model began to be assembled in Russia at the end of 2007. But every coin has two sides, so let's take a look at its flip.

As a result of the restyling, the taillights in the form of knightly shields are a thing of the past.

The ground clearance is 199 mm. Not so bad.

WITHOUT AN ALTERNATIVE
Until 2008, Kyron was offered with a single engine. It was a 2-liter diesel with a common rail and turbocharging, developing a maximum power of 141 hp. With.

For a large four-wheel drive car, the ratio of engine volume to mass, which is a liter per ton, is somehow not enough. I wonder why or for some other reason the motor has a number of characteristic sores? First of all, they are associated with fuel equipment, despite the fact that it generally digests domestic diesel fuel well. Alas, the number of ordinary operations includes replacing quite expensive pump nozzles. With a mileage exceeding 100 thousand km, various troubles with the turbine are quite likely. Also, this engine is known for one nasty thing: replacing glow plugs can easily end in a completely different way than the mechanic expected - one piece of the candle will remain in his hands, and the other will sadly stick out of the cylinder block. A burning Check on the dashboard is usually caused by dirt or failure of the EGR system. However, it is possible to reach the service on its own with this breakdown, and issues with it were resolved within the framework of the guarantee.

There is also a 2.7 liter turbodiesel (163 hp) in the catalogs, but it was not possible to find this engine on the second-hand copies offered for sale.

Together with the updated appearance, which is primarily noticeable in the new optics (front and rear), the changed shape of the headlights and bumpers, the second generation Kyron got a gasoline engine - the good old "Mersovskiy" 2.3-liter unit in a derated version with a capacity of 150 hp. With. Nothing bad is known about him.

All modes of the all-wheel drive transmission are activated using electric switches

BRAINS "AUTOMATO"
With any engine, it is possible to combine both a 5-speed manual transmission and an "automatic", the versions of which were several, including a modern 6-speed automatic transmission with the possibility of manual shifting. The mechanical box is a steadfast tin soldier. As for the "automatic machines", their weak link is the control electronics.

The part-time 4WD transmission is traditional: a rigidly connected front axle, a reduction gear in the transfer case, an optional rear limited slip differential. In terms of reliability, these units still show themselves on a good side, with the exception of one of the versions of the rear gearbox of the first years of production. Oil seal leaks are not typical for low runs. However, the transmission cannot be called completely problem-free. There may be malfunctions in the system for connecting the front axle and switching the transfer case modes. However, usually these issues are resolved with little blood.

The backseat has the same space as most competitors

The size of the trunk and the possibility of transforming the cabin are very decent

In steering, fluid leaks from burst pipes or a reservoir sometimes led to pump breakdowns. The steering tips on the cars of the first years of production showed themselves not particularly durable, later they were changed to more durable ones.

There are no complaints about the brake system, except for the souring parking brake cable.

HORROR
In the independent front suspension, the most serious problem is the breakdown of the ball joint of the lower arm, and even in cars with a low mileage of 30-50 thousand km. Surely you have seen a similar tragic picture more than once at the Zhiguli - this is when the front wheel breaks under the body. As the owners said, the tragedy was preceded by a loud creak. When there were enough such cases, the manufacturer began to produce a reinforced ball.

It is better to buy a used Kyron with a gasoline engine

The rear suspension is spring-loaded with a conventional continuous axle beam attached to the trailing arms. The resource of this node is indefinitely large.

Even a student knows: the more complex the design, the more likely it is to fail. And Kyron is not deprived of any comfort and safety systems. Especially in expensive trim levels. Here is the stabilization system, and rain / light sensors, and a self-dimming rear-view mirror, and electric seat drives, and heating of the wiper zone, etc. It is difficult to find system faults in all this wealth, but if you try, it will be climate control ... Either it causes annoyance with the inadequacy of the work, or, worse, problems with the control unit.

You may ask: is Kyron really another illustration on the theme “cheap is not good”? No, of course, many owners appear at service stations only to carry out maintenance and do not know any problems. But there are others ...

ALEXANDER N.
(SSANGYONG KYRON 2007, 2.0 L, automatic transmission):

- After "Niva" I didn't want to buy a car. And there was not enough money for something serious, and besides, I really wanted to get a diesel engine so as not to be tied to gas stations. That's how I became the owner of a Kyron with automatic transmission and a 2.0 liter turbodiesel. The reason for the purchase was also a vague relationship with Mercedes. And, of course, a spacious interior and a completely modern list of installed equipment. The wife, seeing the huge trunk, immediately said: this is our car. Because we have two large hunting dogs.

Now the mileage is 95 thousand km, and in general I am satisfied with the car. The efficiency of the diesel engine captivates, the average consumption is 10 liters, taking into account driving around the city, but on a long journey the tank is enough for 850 km. From the unexpected - a coolant leak from under the stove pipe clamp and a breakdown of the EGR modulator. The dealer fixed all this under warranty. At 60 thousand km, I changed the ball joints, glow plugs, something was done with the automatic transmission connector, from under which oil was flowing. In terms of expenses for scheduled maintenance, where I went to support the warranty, the car was not cheap. For all this time, I left more than 200 thousand rubles at the dealer's checkout, however, this money included oils, filters, pads. I am currently in the process of changing the car. On the one hand, SsangYong suits me, but on the other, I want a more powerful engine and permanent four-wheel drive, since now I often travel with a trailer.

But I still can't sell Kyron ...

The SsangYong Kyron frame jeep entered mass production in 2005. Initially, it was assembled in Naberezhnye Chelny, later production facilities were moved to Vladivostok.

Technical stuffing and equipment

The ground clearance of the Korean SUV is 210 mm. For all-wheel drive, the Part Time system is used, there is no center differential. The driver independently controls the distribution of traction, choosing one of the modes: 2H, 4H, 2L, 4L. 4L mode downshifts.

Motors with a volume of 2.0 to 3.2 liters are used as power units. Only two versions were supplied to Russia: SsangYong Kyron 2.3 petrol and 2.0 diesel. These engines are paired with five-speed manual and automatic transmissions in four, five or six stages.

Even the basic versions of the model are pleased with the rich equipment: ABS, EBD, air conditioning, heated seats, full power accessories. The top-end versions have climate control, ESP, leather upholstery, a good audio system, and a sunroof. It turns out that for reasonable money you get a solidly equipped jeep with reliable power units borrowed from Mercedes-Benz. These units cannot be considered the height of manufacturability. But they are time-tested, have proven themselves well on the legendary models of the German automaker.

Strengths and weaknesses of the SsangYong Kyron engine

D20DT

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine produces 141 hp. With. power, while the torque reaches 310 Nm. It is manufactured under license from Mercedes-Benz, with proper maintenance it can walk about 250 thousand km without any problems. The timing chain hydraulic tensioner is considered a weak point; some car owners faced a jammed drive belt tensioner roller, sticky glow plugs and starting problems in frosts below -25 ° C. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended to change the standard battery to an analogue with a higher capacity - over 90 Ah, and to refuel only at proven gas stations. If you are not sure about the quality of diesel fuel, add an additive to it. This will remove water from the fuel, minimizing the risk of its partial or complete freezing, increase the cetane number, reduce the load on the catalyst and particulate filter, help clean the combustion chamber and de-carbonize the piston rings, and protect fuel injectors from wear.

To prolong the life of the D20DT turbocharger, which often does not take care of more than 150 thousand km, after intensive driving on the highway, it is advisable not to turn off the engine immediately. Let it idle for a few minutes. Install a turbo timer if possible.

So, despite the occasional breakdowns of the SsangYong Kyron D20DT, which are associated with the low quality of domestic fuel, climatic features, untimely maintenance, the diesel version is in demand. This is due to good dynamic performance and low fuel consumption - from 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle. But in order to enjoy a trouble-free ride as long as possible, we recommend that you strictly adhere to the maintenance schedule, plus treat the engine prophylactically. The internal combustion engine's lubrication system holds 7.5 liters of oil. For double processing, you will need one package and one package. The additive forms on the working surfaces a dense layer of cermet with a low coefficient of friction - from 0.003 to 0.007. This will reduce local temperatures, slow down the oxidation and decomposition of the oil. The newly formed layer does not experience deformation stress, since it has the same coefficient of linear thermal expansion as the metal itself. Its thickness can reach 0.7 mm, and the structure itself is microporous, which helps to keep the oil film on the working surface.

Thanks to the use of the additive, worn out contact surfaces will be restored and hardened, compression will be normalized, fuel consumption will decrease by at least 1 liter, and wear will be reduced when starting on a cold one. , RVS-Master helps when the engine is troit, oil and fuel consumption increases.

G23D

The petrol 2.3-liter SsangYong Kyron engine produces 150 horsepower. The inline four-cylinder unit is the prototype of the 111th Mercedes-Benz engine. It runs perfectly even on domestic AI-95 gasoline, although it is rather weak for a heavy all-wheel drive jeep. Among the disadvantages of the G23D are leaking rear crankshaft oil seal and valve cover gasket, failing oxygen sensors. As for the resource, the G23D can walk under 300-400 thousand km. The main thing is to maintain it correctly, to avoid overheating, water hammer, etc.

If you feel that the dynamics have deteriorated and the consumption of SsangYong Kyron has increased, you will have to carry out a comprehensive diagnosis. In case of natural wear and tear of the power unit, the RVS Master additive will help restore compression, normalize consumption and power. The lubrication system of the internal combustion engine contains 7.5 liters of oil. Therefore, one treatment will require half of the package. The results from the use of the additive are as follows

  • Restoration and hardening of friction units.
  • Increasing pressure in the oil system.
  • Reduced oil and fuel consumption.
  • Minimization of the level of noise, vibration.
  • Simplification of starting at subzero temperatures.

Increasing the resource of manual transmission and automatic transmission, all-wheel drive SsangYong Kyron

In the basic version, the Korean SUV is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. For Kyron with a diesel engine, a five-speed automatic transmission is used, and the gasoline model G23D was equipped first with a four-band, and then with a six-band automatic. Automatic transmissions have similar malfunctions: jolts, jerking when switching, automatic transmission transition to emergency mode, failure of control units. Although this happens less often with the five-speed automatic Mercedes-Benz - 722.6. With careful operation, it can walk 400-500 thousand km. The six-speed DSI-6 M78, on the other hand, is less reliable. In it, the torque converter often fails, incomprehensible vibrations appear with subsequent damage to the transmission.

To make the SsangYong Kyron automatic transmission run longer, we recommend treating it with an additive. This will restore gears, cogwheels, reduce transmission noise, eliminate vibrations, and make shifting easy and smooth.

An additive is suitable for the manual transmission and all-wheel drive SsangYong Kyron. It will build up a cermet layer on the friction surfaces. But keep in mind that it's not worth driving an all-wheel drive around the city and the highway all year round. This is fraught with the failure of an expensive transfer case. For normal driving on public roads, 2H is suitable, and for sand, mud, snow, use 4H.

The Korean auto industry has always been associated with inexpensive subcompacts. However, good crossovers are also produced in this country. So, one of them is Ssangyong Kyron. This is a mid-size frame SUV, mass-produced from 2005 to 2015. In addition to Korea, these vehicles are assembled in Russia, Ukraine, and also in Kazakhstan. What is Sanyeng Kyron Diesel? Reviews, car features and technical specifications - further in our article.

Design

The exterior of the car is different from Japanese and European SUVs. So, at the front, the car received an oval radiator grille and a raised bumper with round fog lights on the sides. The hood follows the lines of the head optics with precision. Side mirrors are painted in body color and are equipped with turn signals in some trim levels. On the roof - the rails familiar to everyone.

What do the owners say about the quality of the metal and paintwork? As noted by the reviews, Ssangyong Kyron is well protected from corrosion. Chipped paintwork is a rarity in a Korean SUV. But even if there is deep damage, rust does not form on the bare metal.

Dimensions, clearance

The car belongs to the SUV class and has the following dimensions. The body length is 4.66 meters, the width is 1.88 meters, and the height is 1.75 meters. The wheelbase is 2740 mm. The ground clearance is impressive - about twenty centimeters. The car has short overhangs and a not too long wheelbase, and therefore feels great off-road - say the reviews. But we will talk about the cross-country ability of this SUV a little later, but for now, let's move to the salon.

Car interior

The interior of the Korean SUV looks simple, but it does not cause negative emotions. A big plus is the availability of free space. It grabs both the front and the back. It can actually accommodate up to five people. Seat adjustment is not only at the front. The back sofa can also be customized. The seats themselves are soft and comfortable - say the reviews.

The center console is slightly tilted towards the driver. There is a simple radio tape recorder, a climate control unit, a pair of air deflectors and a rack with additional control buttons. All elements are placed in an unusual way, but you can get used to it. The steering wheel is four-spoke, covered with leather. There is a standard set of buttons. The steering wheel has a comfortable grip and can be tilted.

Also, reviews note a good level of equipment for the crossover. So, diesel "Sanyeng-Kyron" already in the basic configuration has climate control, power windows and mirrors, good acoustics and heated front seats.

The trunk is designed for 625 liters of luggage. Moreover, there are tool boxes under the floor. Also in the trunk there is a safety net and a 12 volt electrical outlet. The backrest can be folded down. As a result, a cargo area with a volume of more than two thousand liters is formed.

There are two diesel engines available for this vehicle. Both are equipped with a turbine and feature direct fuel injection. So, the base engine with a volume of two liters develops 140 horsepower. Diesel "Sanyeng-Kyron" for 2 liters develops 310 Nm of torque. In more expensive trim levels, a 2.7-liter engine is available. It develops 165 power forces. The torque is 50 Nm more than the previous one.

As noted by the reviews, the diesel "Sanyeng-Kyron" is quite economical. So, on the highway, a car spends no more than seven liters on a 165-horsepower engine (the optimal speed limit is from 100 to 110 kilometers per hour). In the city, the car consumes from 9 to 10 liters of fuel.

About engine reliability

Both engines were manufactured under license from Mercedes-Benz. In general, malfunctions of the diesel Sanyeng Kyron are rare. But there are also childhood illnesses. So, it is worth noting the timing mechanism. "Sanyeng-Kyron" (diesel) requires replacement of the hydraulic chain tensioner every 60 thousand kilometers. Also, a diesel engine is difficult to start in cold weather. It is impossible to start the diesel "Sanyeng Kyron" without additional heating at -25 degrees. In addition, the car has a weak battery. A 90 Ah battery is installed here from the factory. Regular glow plugs can get stuck, which is why they have to literally rip out of the block.

As for the turbine, its resource is more than 150 thousand kilometers. The turbine is reliable, but it does not like long and prolonged loads.

Transmission

As for the transmission, a five-speed manual or a five-band automatic transmission is provided for the Korean SUV. Diesel "Sanyeng-Chiron" can go with both rear and four-wheel drive on the "Part Time" system (there is no center differential).

Owners are faced with the failure of the electronic control unit of the automatic and transfer case. The cost of the question is 18 and 12 thousand rubles, respectively. The owners also complain about the costly oil change for automatic transmissions. Over time, there is an imbalance in the propeller shaft. This can jam the outboard bearing. Front hubs also refuse to work. The owners advise installing more reliable ones from the Musso company. A manual transmission is more reliable than an automatic transmission, but it also needs maintenance. The oil in it changes at least once every 100 thousand kilometers. You also need to monitor the condition of the oil seals and change them in time.

Chassis

The car has an independent suspension in front. Behind - dependent, spring. The brake system is disc. The front wheels have ventilated brakes.

Test Drive

How does the diesel Sanyeng Kyron behave on the move? As the reviews point out, the suspension characteristics are not designed for our roads. When hitting a pit, there is a noticeable jolt and knock of the suspension. But I must say that the diesel engine has good acceleration dynamics. The car quickly picks up speed from a traffic light and slows down smoothly, without jerking. The handling is not bad, and there is no difference between the rear and all-wheel drive (except for the cross-country characteristics). It drives the same way on any drive. But what this car lacks is the rear parking sensors. It is not even available as an option. And the rear window is very small, and sometimes you have to park at random.

Outside the city, the car behaves confidently. It enters corners without rolls and easily accelerates to a maximum speed of 167 kilometers per hour. However, the optimal speed is up to 110. At higher speeds, the car has to be constantly monitored - it is slightly swept off the road. Also at speed there is noise from side mirrors and a whistle in the area of the bottom.

"Sanyeng Kyron" off-road

As noted by reviews, this car behaves great off-road. The car confidently overcomes steep sandy slopes and hills. Compared to competitors, Sanyeng Kyron shows excellent results. Short overhangs and high ground clearance allow the car to get through where the rest will sit on the "belly". In addition, the car is equipped with 255 wide tires with 18-inch disks. The all-wheel drive version deserves special attention. Sanyeng Kyron is really capable of kneading mud and getting out of any trap.

Please note that, according to the owner's manual, driving on dry asphalt with front-wheel drive connected may result in transmission failure. So, the transfer case fails. And the cost of repairing it can be up to 60 thousand rubles. Therefore, all-wheel drive should only be used if absolutely necessary.

Conclusion

So, we found out what the Korean Sanyeng Kyron SUV is. Overall, this is a decent utility vehicle. This machine is not too large, can be operated around the city, and on weekends, the whole family can safely go to nature on it. Diesel "Sanyeng-Kyron" is very economical. But if you want to spend less money on maintenance, you should take the version with a five-speed manual.
