Land Rover Velar Review, Test Drive and Impressions. Land Rover Range Rover Velar "Removing the veil from the key" And calmer - better

The answer is extremely simple: this car, unlike transcendental supercars, is of real practical interest for a wealthy public. V Land rover gracefully and decisively plugged their own created, but hitherto empty marketing niche of the "urban Range Rover".

Many times in interviews and presentations, I asked Land Rover bosses: do all your clients really need all these opportunities to storm almost one meter fords, climb rocks at an angle of 45 degrees and do other hardcore? They answered me: yes, we understand that few people use the capabilities of our machines even half, but it is important for people to have potential.

Velar - for those for whom this potential is much less important than the monumentality of the appearance and the luxury of the interior. It's a crossover Range Rover. Also with a good discount compared to the flagship!

Technically, it's not even quite a Land Rover - it is Jaguar F-Pace in a new guise. Based on the same platform iQ, the same wheelbase of 2,874 mm, the same suspension designs (double wishbone at the front, multi-link at the rear) and ... yes, a simplified all-wheel drive transmission without a reduction gear.

Visually Velar it seems very large, and it is really longer than the Jaguar (due to overhangs) by 7 centimeters, but at the same time it is shorter Range Rover sport by 4.7 centimeters. Logically, the "cubic" Velar should be inferior in aerodynamic properties F-Pace, but in fact his Cx is 0.32 versus 0.34 for the soplatform.

In favor of Cx are the door handles made in a compartment style "flush", which are pulled out, apparently, when the car is unlocked with a key. And, do not believe it, British engineers have adopted the know-how, which was very popular in the 90s among the owners of the "chisel". Velar does not have a rear wiper - water and dirt at speed should blow off the air stream passing through the spoiler. That does not detract from the merits of this amazing car.

What's in the photos, what's in the live Velar looks a hell of a lot like a concept-car: with bold chopped lines, giant wheels ... But the cabin is already really cozy, this does not happen in concepts. And this, may the flagship forgive me Range, the most, the most luxurious Land Rover in which I have ever sat.

Suppose you won't surprise anyone with expensive leather now - at least completely cover everything in skins and paint in the most bizarre colors. The British went further in their experiments with texture. Denim, corrugated polymer upholstery, rough pieces of wood ... The steering wheel can be suede at all!

Men, be careful! If your woman accidentally sits here in the showroom and feels all these delights, she may have an acute kinesthetic orgasm, and all the other cars, albeit equally new and premium, will seem insipid and boring to her.

And you will have to spend unplanned money on a new one Velar for her, otherwise her life will lose all meaning. But what is there to be hypocritical - you, too, will probably like the interior, especially since it is not good with only rags.

In the overwhelmed crowd of jackets Armani and D&G dresses It was not possible to test the head unit on Velar properly, but what I saw is impressive. There are three screens - digital tidy and two central ones, with excellent graphics and high-speed performance.

When they debuted in Paris a couple of years ago Volvo XC90 and Land Rover Discovery Sport, the Briton with his wretched display unit looked like an alien from a bygone era. Now no inferiority is felt, on the contrary. At first glance, dividing the functionality into two screens at different angles to the driver (the lower one is "overwhelmed" forward more strongly) is more ergonomic than one vertical screen on Volvo or, say, Tesla.

Unlike the ruler Discovery, it's definitely not a family car. In the back row, Velara is a bit cramped, even if you sit "by yourself" with a modest 175 cm in height. Flaw? Not for the intended audience. As well as stripped-down off-road capabilities.

However, do not rush to write Velar into the heroes of the asphalt and nothing more. Yes, the transmission is simplistic, and the overhangs are clearly too large for a real SUV. And in general, who will trample on the swamp, if he has a suede steering wheel, and the ceiling is lined with snow-white Alcantara? But if you really want to, then you can. After all, there is Terrain response 2 with a variety of transmission algorithms for driving on different surfaces, and the ground clearance can be pneumatically increased to 251 mm.

Motors? The motors are different. There are quite boring 2-liter turbo diesels with 180 hp. Inexpensive, but from the outside it will still look pretentious, besides, the expense is excellent. Gasoline "two-liter" a little more fun: 250 forces, within the framework of tax prudence. The next in the hierarchy, a 240-horsepower turbodiesel, will probably go even a little more fun, also without making you go broke on the maintenance. Well, for uncompromising buyers there will be V6 - 300 hp diesel and 380 hp petrol with compressor.

Prices? Already known. It all starts with 3,880,000 rubles, and ends with 7,178,000. Range Rover - from 6,304,000 to 11,649,000 rubles.

SPECIFICATIONS

Front and rear the car has independent suspensions - "double-lever" and "multi-link", respectively. By default, it "flaunts" electronically controlled shock absorbers with variable stiffness, and for a surcharge it can also be equipped with an air suspension with adjustable ground clearance. The steering rack is "responsible" with a variable pitch of teeth and an adaptive electric power steering. All five-door wheels accommodate ventilated disc brakes, supplemented by ABS, EBD, BA and other assistive electronics.

With global market trends pushing manufacturers to seek out the perfect model to sell well, the Range Rover range has expanded to include a new luxury SUV named Velar, which has carved its niche between Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport. The presentation took place at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

APPEARANCE

The design of the novelty is made in some kind of minimalist style. However, the branded radiator grille, Matrix-Laser LED headlights, bonnet gills and 18-21 inch wheels give a striking look with a dose of sporty aggression. At the back we see curvaceous shapes, lights with 3D graphics and a powerful bumper, which includes large trapeziums exhaust pipes... Velar's drag coefficient of just 0.32 Cx is a record among all Range Rover models, this is achieved in several ways: the most flat bottom, door handles retractable at a speed of 8 km / h, smooth body lines, as well as blocked front pillars. It is worth noting the "tricky" spoiler, thanks to which dust and dirt do not get on rear glass, but are simply blown away by a stream of air.

INTERIOR

An interesting paradox takes place in the interior of Velar: visually, the salon looks simple, however, it is crammed with a number of technological innovations. This was achieved by replacing physically controlled buttons with sensors, screens and virtual pucks. Even the steering wheel has touch-sensitive touchpads, and the dashboard has an Interactive Driver with a 12.3-inch full-color screen, some parameters are projected onto windshield... In the center is the Touch Pro Duo system, which includes a 10-inch touch screen that changes the angle of inclination and is responsible for the multimedia system. Below is its static "brother", which controls the 4-zone climate control and off-road Terrain Response program settings. In the interior trim, we see: Windsor leather, expensive Premium Textile from the Kvadrat company and decorative inserts made of stainless steel. The front seats have a pronounced anatomical dressing and lateral support, for a surcharge, you can install ventilation and a massage function. Rear passengers will get comfortable seats with heating, ventilation and USB connectors.

MOTORS

There is no doubt that we have an SUV in front of us, because Range Rover Velar is able to easily move through difficult terrain, thanks to its clearance and all-wheel drive... According to the manufacturer, the car is even capable of towing a trailer with a gross weight of up to 2500 kg. The novelty will enter the market with three diesel and two gasoline engines... The pair will work with an 8-speed automatic from the ZF company.

START OF SALES VELAR

Sales of the new Range Rover Velar in America, China and Europe will start this summer at a price of $ 49,900 to $ 89,300 per North America and from 56,400 to 108,700 euros (Velar First Edition) in the European market, and Velar will reach Russia closer to the fall of 2017.

NEW RANGE ROVER VELAR VIDEO

The whole photo session

New Range Rover Velar is the fourth luxury car SUV Range Rover. It occupies a niche between the Evoque and Sport models and becomes a dangerous competitor to the German regulars of the class: Mercedes benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5

Reductionism, according to the Range Rover Velar press release, is a step away from deliberate complexity to simple solutions in order to emphasize the true value of the model. It is in this vein that the appearance of the novelty is developed. Designers spent months refining the clay model of the SUV, cutting millimeters off the profile of the body panels to achieve the perfect play of light and shadow. They cut off all that is superfluous, like when cutting a diamond. And they have turned out, I'm not afraid of this word, a masterpiece: the exterior of the Velar does not have any complex surfaces, but at the same time it attracts the eye and fascinates with the harmony of its appearance.

The creators of the model plunged so deeply into this very reductionism that they even deprived the car of the usual door handles: they, they say, violate the cleanliness of the body surfaces. The handles of the novelty are made flush with the doors and extend when you press a button. True, I immediately had fears: what would happen if a finger got under the handle when locking the locks? Will she pinch him? And how will all this work in the winter after, for example, freezing rain?

But representatives of the company dispelled doubts - the mechanism is as safe and thoughtful as possible. So, if the handle encounters an obstacle when recessed, it will immediately stop moving and continue it only after the obstacle has been removed. Of course, I experienced: I pressed the button for locking the locks, put my finger in the slot, and ... nothing terrible happened. The pen did not press on me properly - even the child will not be hurt. And as soon as the finger was taken out, the handle closed. As for freezing, the brand's engineers told me that they poured water on the doors and froze them to a very low temperatures, however, the mechanism still continued to work as if nothing had happened. Well, for now, let's take their word for it and ... wait for winter. And then we will test it again.

Proven solutions

The Range Rover Velar is technically identical to its sister SUV, the Jaguar F-Pace. They have the same wheelbase, although the Range Rover's rear overhang is longer. This is done not so much for the volume of the luggage compartment, but for reasons of aesthetics: the long rear overhang, combined with the short front overhang, gives the car classic proportions.

And equipped with a Velar richer than the F-Pace. So, the representative of the "cat family" does not have air suspension, but for the Range Rover - please. Although there are conventional springs - however, only in the initial versions. You can also order a lock for Velar rear differential, because this car is designed to move not only on asphalt, but also off-road. And of course it is equipped with the proprietary Terrain Response system with many customization options for different types surfaces and relief. The air suspension allows you to increase the ground clearance to an impressive 251 mm (from the standard 205 mm), and the ford depth is 650 mm (with a spring suspension, the ground clearance is 213 mm, the ford is 600 mm).

For the novelty, 4-cylinder (2-liter) and 6-cylinder (3-liter) power units are offered, running on gasoline and diesel fuel. Gasoline engines develop 250 and 300 hp. in a 2-liter version and 380 hp. - in a 3-liter. Turbodiesels also have two power options for a volume of 2 liters - 180 and 240 hp, and the 3-liter version develops 300 hp. The gearbox for all modifications is automatic, 8-band.

Are buttons evil?

The pursuit of simplicity continues in the interior. Where have all the buttons gone? Instead, there are touchscreen displays. And if we are already beginning to get used to virtual instruments and the central screen of the interface, then the touchscreen on the central console is still a novelty. There are three "knobs" on the glossy black panel, the central one is responsible for the volume, and the side ones can perform various functions, which are selected using the touch keys located nearby.

So, by rotating these "rings", you can adjust the temperature, adjust the intensity of heating and ventilation of the seats, or switch the modes responsible for driving performance car. In this case, all the action is reflected on the touch screen with the help of great graphics. By the way, it happened! Finally, the quality of the "picture" english car is not inferior to the reference in this class "Germans". The keys on the steering wheel, by the way, are also touch-sensitive. For example, to increase or decrease the volume of music, you need to do Roundabout Circulation finger on the "round" on the left spoke.

As for me personally, I am wary of all this sensory economy, because while moving the virtual keys cannot be used by touch - you have to, albeit for a short time, be distracted from the road. In addition, it is not known how all this will work in severe frost after a long stay. Representatives of the brand assure that everything will be fine, except that the reaction time to touch will slow down. But even in warmth, responsiveness is not instantaneous, although the delays are small and do not cause irritation. And of course, you won't be able to control the touch screen with gloves. But now it's summer, and even in Norway, where the test drive took place, it's pretty warm.

Otherwise, the Velar feels like a true Range Rover. Moreover, it is much closer to the "older" Sport model than to the "younger" Evoque. The straight and wide, leather-lined dashboard with thin air vents provides a spacious feel, high driving position and excellent visibility. The seats seemed to me harsh and not particularly anatomical, but over time, as they say, I sat and felt great throughout the test. Fans of gadgets are informed that the car provides 4G internet and a Wi-Fi hotspot that allows you to connect up to eight devices, USB ports and sockets are available.

The second row is relatively spacious, but nothing more. There are vehicles in this class that offer more legroom. But here is a comfortable sofa, which also has an electric adjustment of the backrest tilt. But the luggage compartment is very large for its segment: when the rear sofa is unfolded, its volume increases from an impressive 673 liters to an almost bottomless 1731 liters. There is also a special ski hatch, and the function of the contactless opening of the fifth door makes it easier to load heavy luggage. Like the latest Land Rover Discovery, the Velar also comes with a water-resistant shockproof wristband that allows you to lock the car while leaving the keys in the interior.

Do not rush!

The organizers of the test drive warned that in Norway the fines for speeding are huge and there can be no talk of any +20 km / h, as in Russia. Then they provided me with the most powerful modifications of the novelty: with a 300-horsepower turbodiesel and a 380-horsepower gasoline unit. That is, they can accelerate to ... 80 km / h! There were simply no roads to move faster. However, as it turned out later, more is not needed. Because the car does not provoke a violation speed mode.

I start with the petrol version, which is equipped with a mechanical supercharger driven by the engine crankshaft and therefore does not have a turbo pause. Indeed, the engine pulls immediately from idle speed... Acceleration is smooth "from bottom to top", and the motor reacts gently to pressing the accelerator pedal even in the "dynamic" mode. AND automatic transmission gear works smoothly, slowly. As a result, the car is perceived as calm, despite a well-delivered "voice" power unit... A bit of excitement can be obtained only in the tunnel, if you open the windows and "gas", enjoying the pleasant sound of the compressor engine.

You don't want to go fast on the winding highway either. The steering is quite sharp (a little more than 2.5 turns from lock to lock) and accurate, and with informational content it has order, but the car is perceived as heavy in turns, although the rolls are not to say that great. Even the "squeezed" in "dynamic" mode, the air suspension does not provide this SUV with sporting habits. However, Velar is controlled reliably and correctly. Actually, this is how a Range Rover car should move, it's just that its impetuous appearance confused me. If you go more calmly, everything will fall into place.

The air suspension was unexpectedly stiff. But this is not surprising on the optional 22-inch wheels with low-profile "tape" instead of rubber (despite the fact that in basic configuration Velar is equipped with 18-inch wheels). They look, of course, beautiful, but their practical value tends to zero. And the hum from these tires is not weak.

Therefore, when the organizers arranged for me to drive up the mountain on a rocky dirt road, I began to seriously fear for the safety of the tires and wheels. However, despite the unsuitable "shoes", Velar climbed up playfully, without even requiring to switch to "off-road" mode. The way back was also casual thanks to the hill descent assistance system: you sit with your legs tucked in, and the car itself controls the exit speed. Perhaps, in this class, hardly anyone can drive off-road better.

Towards the end of the test, I change to a 300-horsepower turbodiesel modification. Oh, I like this engine better! There are almost no vibrations, the sound is noble and the thrust is amazing. Only the suspension turned out to be not as assembled as that of the gasoline version: there were delays in the responses to control, and the accuracy of following the trajectory deteriorated. At the same time, the ride is no better, despite the less extreme, although still very large 21-inch wheels. However, again, if you do not approach this modification of Velar with "sports car" standards, there will be no complaints about it.

So, this is a typical Range Rover, able to drive not only on asphalt, but also on rather serious off-road, for which British brand SUVs love. The ability to "tumble" into turns at high speed is not required of them. Those who love the honed asphalt habits buy other cars that are far inferior to the Range Rover in versatility. And that versatility costs money. For the initial modifications (250 hp, gasoline and 180 hp, diesel) dealers ask from 3,880,000 rubles, and the most powerful, 380-strong, version will cost at least 5,253,000 rubles. The first commercial copies of the new model will begin to arrive in Russia in October 2017.

We got behind the wheel of a sexy new Range Rover Velar for a test drive and it proved to be very capable both on and off the road.

pros: very interesting design and interior of the cabin, a large number of configurations to choose from, powerful engines, Range Rover's unrivaled exterior, smart electronics.

Minuses: inability to connect an iOS or Android phone to the multimedia system (which is very bad at such a price for a Range Rover Velar), tire noise is heard in the cabin at speed, there is little room for rear passengers.

Main competitors: Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, BMW X4, BMW X3, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes GLC.

It's no wonder you'll have to wait at least over a month if you order the Velar now - one of the most coveted crossovers you can buy. It is modern, super stylish and will pamper you with impressive levels of comfort and refinement, as well as all the same crossover capabilities you find in Land Rover Discovery. The Velar isn't as cheap as the latter, however, and many rivals offer better technology and more passenger space. Despite this, we have no doubt that Velar will be another massive hit for the Jaguar Land Rover concern.

With such an increase in sales, as shown by other models of the concern, you expect that the mass character of this crossover will only grow, but so far this has not happened. So can new Range Rover Velar to prove that the company still has a fuse? This is what the 2017 Range Rover Velar test drive will show.

2017 Range Rover Velar first review

The Velar aims to carve a niche price segment between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport and take a fresh look at the RR crossover family. Slim LED headlights and taillights that wrap around the car, a tilted grille and an invisible door handle on a test drive significantly update the Range Rover's look.

It's a clean and uncluttered style with subtle details such as fold lines running from the front light to the back through the elongated side vents. And that's proof that design director Jerry McGovern is a real talent.

Land Rover calls this style "reductionism" and this style is further emphasized by the interiors - one of the most stunning interiors we've ever seen on a test drive. The traditional clean horizontal line is crossed by the center section extending from the center console all the way to the all-new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system.

Photos of the new Range Rover Velar

The two 10-inch touchscreens are both a work of art and a genius in terms of usability. When turned off, they hide the black panels, adding a minimalist interior. But when the car is on, the panels come alive with the displays high definition and the top block pivots forward 30 degrees to greet you.

At the bottom of the lower screen are two large discs with their own LED displays and a central volume control knob. The bottom monitor controls heating and ventilation, as well as the enhanced terrain system, with the two sets working with either setting. The top screen will have navigation, telephone and audio systems, while both screens are easy to use in a test drive, rolling from one control to the next.

It is a truly intuitive system and easily connects to your smartphone. There is a car Wi-Fi hotspot here, if you want to connect to the Internet from your devices, and the car learns about your routes and makes suggestions to avoid traffic jams or help find a parking space. Moreover, during a test drive Range Rover Velar navigation system worked just fine. There are three Meridian stereos to choose from.

Ok, we started with good news, now it's time for bad news - PP Velar still won't be able to help you if you want to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto... In this respect, the company clearly lags behind its competitors.

Stenni Range Rover Velar Test Drive

This also applies to autonomous technologies. Undoubtedly on Test Drive Range The Rover Velar has shown how good its adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, driving assistance, automatic parking and traffic sign recognition are. For example, the Volvo XC60 on a test drive showed no sign of an emphasis on self-driving. But this car is quite close to autopilot, and it also offers a beautifully built, stylish interior and an easy-to-use touchscreen.

On the question of cost - the price range varies quite a bit depending on the configuration and modification, starting at 3,900,000 rubles for the base Velar model with a four-cylinder petrol engine producing 250 hp. Despite the fact that this base model, it is reasonably staffed enough. But if your dealer can't convince you to buy a Range Rover Velar in the First Edition of more than RUB 7,200,000 with huge wheels, Meridian sound system and navigation, they don't do the job.

But if you just want to look more sporty without overpaying, then the R-Dynamic package (which was on the test drive) will save you a lot of money worth from 4.6 million rubles.

Other engines include two more diesels: a 2-liter inline and a 3-liter V6. There are three versions gasoline engines: 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 3.0-liter V6 with 250 hp or the 3.0-liter flagship V6 that produces a mind-boggling 375 hp.

We suspect that a two-liter diesel in SE trim may well be the golden mean in a huge range of modifications (there are 27 complete sets in Russia), but now we have a 3.0-liter diesel in R specification for a test drive. -Dynamic HSE. This package is nice and well equipped and looks very expensive.

Our route on a Range Rover Velar test drive in Norway was devoid of motorways, so we'll have to wait and see how the Velar drives through on adaptive cruise control, but it looks like it's a superbly refined car to drive. It is difficult to convey the feelings that a V6 diesel engine gives under the hood, if you accelerate a lot, perhaps you yourself would be better off taking this car for a test drive at a dealership. But on large wheels you will notice a little road noise, and this is not quite a plus for the Range Rover Velar.

The fourth look of Range Rover's new crossover, the Velar, has arrived in the family. The manufacturer Land Rover named the characteristics of the novelty and its configuration, we will tell you about the cost, as well as videos and photos.

Contents of the review:

Land Rover vehicles are renowned for their reliability and style. The design and equipment are really premium class. The most popular among Land Rovers is the Range Rover family, various modifications will suit any customer's taste. Land Rover recently introduced the fourth crossover model in the Range Rover family, called the Velar.

State-of-the-art technology and stylish design have made the Range Rover Velar one of the coveted among new buyers and aficionados Land brands Rover. On the official Land Rover website in Russia, the complete set and the price have already been set. Let's take a closer look at the new product and what are the differences from other sub-models.

Rover Velar exterior

I would like to note right away that the variety of the appearance of the Velar crossover is very large. Exterior new Land The Rover Range Rover Velar speaks a lot about the modern style of the crossover, although the designers still retained many features of the Range Rover family. Seasoned enthusiasts or ardent fans of this family will say that the new Velar combines the features of the two older brothers Evoque in the front end and Sport in the rest of the body.

Let's start looking at the new Range Rover Velar from the front. The most modern can be considered the front optics of the crossover, starting from the basic configuration, the front optics will be LED, but in the more expensive, top-end configurations, it will be matrix-laser. According to the passport data, the illumination range of such matrix optics is up to 550 meters. As already mentioned, for the most part, the shape of the optics is taken from the Evoque model, flattened and elongated on the sides, it emphasizes the design of the Velar crossover.

The radiator grille is also somewhat reminiscent of the Evoque, but wider. It will be chrome for the regular Velar and black for the R-Dynamic and Velar First Edition, depending on trim. There is a similar difference in the lettering at the end of the bonnet. The regular Velar will have Range Rover lettering in chrome, while the Velar R-Dynamic and First Edition will be in black.

The next difference to the Range Rover Velar trim levels after the grille is the front bumper. In the usual configuration, the bumper will be curved in width, without additional aerodynamic openings. The lower part of the bumper of a regular Velar is decorated with a small additional grille for the engine airflow, the entire bumper from the bottom is emphasized by a black plastic splitter, which also serves as an additional engine protection.

Unlike the regular Velar, the R-Dynamic and First Edition trims have additional stylish aerodynamic vents with gold-colored dividers on the sides of the bumper. In their upper part, the designers placed LED fog lights, which was not on the simple Velar configuration. The lower part of the bumper is decorated with a large additional grille for the engine airflow. In these variants of the Range Rover, she acquired a front-view camera, night vision and a chrome strip at the bottom.

The hood of the new Range Rover Velar crossover is similar in shape to the Sport version. In a regular Velar, it will be solid, and will follow the shape of the radiator grill. In other trim levels, aerodynamic holes appeared on the hood for better engine airflow and improved vehicle performance. Throughout Velar, engineers have provided a heated windshield. Well, the front end of the crossover is very stylish and prettier than older brothers.

Probably most of all the interest of all Land Rover drivers and fans will fall on the side of the Velar crossover. Doorknobs, this is what most of all information from various sources has surfaced. Fancy pull-out handles with touch controls are a trend in modern new cars. This style was set by Mercedes on the first CIAA concept presented (see). Then, for the first time, experts started talking about the fact that in future innovations of automakers, many functions will be taken from this concept.

Approaching the Range Rover Velar SUV, it is enough to press a button on the handle, and as a result, the door handle will come out. Whether it is convenient or not is hard to say, but still such an innovation is already in production cars the Land Rover brand. A characteristic feature of the sub-models is the air ducts on the front fenders and parts of the front doors. Such air ducts can be seen in the Evoque crossover, but in a smaller size. The difference in the configuration will be the shade of the air duct insert.

For entry-level Velar, the inserts will be chrome, for R-Dynamic and First Edition Velar, the inserts are gold. From the front optics to the beginning of the rear optics along the entire length of the Range Rover Velar, designers have made a stripe to emphasize the style of the new crossover. Side mirrors rear view have their own zest, in addition to repeaters by turning and filling from surveillance cameras, in their lower part directional lenses were placed, for projection of the Land Rover logo on the ground, and thereby highlighting the seat of the driver and front passenger.

The length of the Velar crossover is in many ways similar to the Range Rover Sport. The rear is tilted at an angle and provides a third row of seats. The rear end of the Range Rover Velar is distinctive and in shape, it can be said to resemble something between the Evoque and Sport options. The rear optics are based on LED technology and are located partly on the body and boot lid. Between the optics, the Range Rover lettering was placed on a black background, the Velar marking was placed on the left. The upper part of the boot lid is decorated with a wing.

The special difference between the trim levels is the lower part of the bumper. In a regular Velar, a small plastic insert with two vertical stripes serves as a difference, for Velar R-Dynamic, it will be the same insert but wider and with three stripes. As for the maximum configuration of the First Edition, there are already significant differences, it is a black wide insert and two chrome tips of the exhaust system.

The last thing to look at in the new Range Rover Velar crossover is the roof. As with other Range Rover vehicles, the upper part of the crossover is painted black, the lower part is accentuated by a plastic edging. The top of the roof itself, at the option of the buyer, can be in body color or completely black. Regarding the form factor of the roof, regardless of the configuration, it will be panoramic for three rows of seats. Roof rails will be installed on the roof of the Range Rover Velar for the transportation of oversized cargo. According to the passport data, the maximum roof load can be 79 kg., And this is not so much as with ordinary SUVs.

The dimensions of the Range Rover Velar crossover are not small enough:

  • the length of the Velar crossover is 4803 mm;
  • width including mirrors - 2145 mm;
  • height - 1665 mm;
  • wheelbase lengthwise - 2874 mm;
  • front wheel track - 1640 mm;

As you can see, the parameters of the new Range Rover Velar are between Sport and Evoque, but to be absolutely precise, millimeter in millimeter coincides with by Jaguar F-Type. The volume of the trunk with the third row of seats folded out is 673 liters. With the second and third row seats folded, the boot volume increases to 1,731 liters.

Range Rover Velar body colors will be available in the following shades:

  • White;

To turn the new Range Rover Velar crossover, a diameter of 12 m will be required. The weight of the crossover will depend on the configuration and range from 1829 kg. up to 1959 kg. Full mass within the range of 2490 - 2610 kg. Given these dimensions and weight, it becomes interesting what kind of wheels are at the heart of the Range Rover Velar. As a standard, the basic equipment includes 18 "alloy wheels. The customer will be offered 19", 20 ", 21", 22 "wheels.

It makes no sense to list all the options of the new Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The company offers a variety of additions, different functions from the already famous Range Rover crossovers, and innovations in general. Speaking about the exterior as a whole, we can note the combination of new style and modern technologies, and a large set of functions will make the control comfortable.

The interior of the new Range Rover Velar

If the exterior of the new Land Rover Range Rover Velar is not so drastically different, the interior of the new crossover has changed quite a lot. Given the direction of use the latest technologies, the designers did their best in the interior. I would like to note right away that the interior is spacious and, starting from the basic configuration, it is designed for three rows of seats.

The front panel is based on touch screens and panels. The minimal use of mechanical handles has resulted in improved usability and functionality. Range Rover Velar's dash is centered on a 10 "high-resolution multimedia touchscreen. Quality of technology allows the screen to recognize accidental or intentional pressing. Above the display, there are two small air vents and an emergency parking button.

The multimedia system will display the maximum number of vehicle functions, navigation maps in different languages and excellent image quality from cameras around the Range Rover Velar crossover.

Dropping below the display, Range Rover Velar designers have positioned another touch panel to control the climate control, its functions and safety systems. One thing that remains mechanical is the temperature control knobs. The suspension control knob and the selection of the travel mode were also left mechanical. Slightly to the right is the touch panel for controlling the functions of the multimedia system and the Velar itself as a whole. For the first time such a panel could be found in the Lexus LS 2018.

The driver's seat will be no less interesting. Dashboard Range Rover Velar is based on a large 12.3 "TFT screen. The panel is capable of receiving and displaying data from the multimedia system, displaying data on the state of the crossover. In contrast to the standards of placement of instruments, the speedometer in the new Velar is located on the left, and the tachometer on the right, although usually the other way around.

The central part is reserved for displaying images from surveillance cameras and night vision radars. Thus, the driver will be distracted to a minimum while driving. The head-up display is located behind the panel, unlike previous versions, it is synchronized with the dashboard and the Velar multimedia system. If desired, you can display both individual pieces of information and the image from the surveillance camera on it.

From the Velar dashboard, slowly look at wheel, it is rather a masterpiece of the entire interior. The combination of classic looks and modern technology makes this kind of crossover a pleasure to drive. The central part is occupied by an airbag and a signal. Touch panels and buttons were placed on the side spokes, due to this, the engineers managed to place the maximum amount of functionality on the steering wheel. Regardless of the configuration, the steering wheel will be heated.

Behind the wheel is a pair of paddles for shifting gears, next to them are levers for controlling light, turn signals and auxiliary systems. Leather with quality stitching will be used as the material for the steering wheel.

There is only one conclusion on the functionality of the front panel, the minimization of mechanical functions has led to an improvement in design, and the stylish touch panels only emphasize the modern style of Range Rover Velar.

As for the Velar seats, their comfort is excellent. The front ones are made in a sporty style with wrap around the sides, between them there is still an armrest with two parts. The second and third row of seats are comfortable for long journeys, and are designed for seating 5-6 passengers depending on the Range Rover Velar equipment. In the initial trim levels, the second row will be solid, but in the top-end versions it is divided into two seats, according to the principle of the front seats.

The materials for this Range Rover Velar will be used premium fabric, high-quality leather and suede, and for the interior decor inserts from expensive varieties of wood and carbon fiber. As an example, mahogany, carbon fiber inserts or natural polished wood will be used. Also, around the entire perimeter of the Range Rover Velar will be installed LED lights, the color of which can be changed by choosing from the palette on the central screen.

The new Range Rover Velar is available in a mix of interior colors:

  • black;
  • White;
  • Gray;
  • Brown.
The combination can be leather, suede, perforated leather and fabric inserts. The buyer is not limited to the choice of interior shades, and for an additional fee he can choose according to his taste. A week is not enough to describe every detail of the interior; it is best to revise it in the photos presented at the end of the article. The interior itself looks rich even in the basic configuration, maximum complete set Velar First Edition will win the heart of even the most demanding customer in comfort.

Specifications

The engineers did their best on the variety of technical characteristics and sensors. The buyer will be offered a choice of 3 diesel and two gasoline unit... All units will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with fast and smooth gear shifting. The drive in all Range Rover Velar equipment will be complete and permanent.

The first is a four-cylinder diesel D180 with a volume of 2 liters, the power of such a unit is 180 hp. with a maximum torque of 430 Nm. Maximum speed with such an engine of 209 km / h, the crossover can accelerate to the first hundred in 8.9 seconds. With regard to fuel consumption, such a Ranger Rover Velar in the city will ask for from 6.2 liters., Outside the city from 4.9 liters., And in mixed cycle from 5.4 liters. Emissions of harmful substances CO2 on average 142 g / km.

The second diesel variant of the D240 engine will be able to produce 240 hp. at 500 Nm of torque. The engine displacement will be the same at 2 liters. and 4 cylinders. Thanks to the increase in power, the maximum speed has also increased to 217 km / h, and acceleration to 100 km / h will take 7.3 seconds. In the city, the consumption of Rover Velar in this version will be from 7.2 liters, outside the city from 5.1 liters, and in the combined cycle from 5.8 liters. CO2 emissions will be in the order of 154 g / km.

The last of diesel engine The Range Rover Velar is labeled as the D300 with six cylinders. The power of such a V6 unit is 300 horses, and the maximum torque is 700 Nm. The volume of the unit is 3 liters, and the engine is longitudinal. The maximum speed of such a charged Velar reaches 241 km / h, and it will accelerate to hundreds in 6.5 seconds. Logically, the fuel consumption of the Velar has increased. In the city from 7.4 liters, outside the city from 5.8 liters, and the mixed cycle from 6.4 liters.

After diesel units came the list of gasoline Range Rover Velar. The crossover engine markings are marked P250, four-cylinder. With a unit volume of 300 h.p. and 365 Nm of torque, the volume is 2 liters. Such a Velar will be able to accelerate to hundreds of kilometers in 6.7 seconds, the maximum speed of the crossover will be at around 217 km / h. Fuel consumption of Velar, in contrast to diesel fuel, has increased; the city will need 9.1 liters. fuel per hundred kilometers, outside the city - 6.7 liters, with the combined cycle the figure will be 7.6 liters. The CO2 emissions will be 173 g / km.

Range Rover Velar's latest petrol V6 engine and the most powerful P380 will be able to deliver 380 hp. at 450 Nm of torque. The volume of such a unit is 3 liters. with six cylinders. The maximum speed of the crossover is 250 km / h, and it will cover 100 km / h in 5.7 s. In the city, the crossover will ask for 12.7 liters. fuel, outside the city - 7.5 liters., with the combined cycle, the figure will be 9.4 liters. Harmful substances the figure will show data at 214 g / km.

The marks on the engines are not for nothing, this is how the crossover engine will be indicated on the trunk lid under the Velar nameplates.

As you can see, the engineers did not skimp on improvements, thanks to the aluminum body of the crossover, the service life of the car increased significantly, and its weight decreased. As a result of the small volume and low weight, the power of the units is transmitted to the wheels with minimal losses. Depending on the Range Rover Velar equipment, the volume fuel tank ranges from 60 to 63 liters. As for such a crossover, the volume is still too small.

According to the technical characteristics of the Range Rover Velar, it is clear that the novelty is mostly intended for driving on flat surfaces, although a variety of sensors allow you to drive off-road. An example of such a sensor is the measurement of the fording depth, an image will be displayed on the central display, which will show the depth of the ford.

Velar security systems

After technical characteristics, the engineers did not skimp on the security systems. First of all, this is the maximum use of airbags around the entire perimeter; inflatable seat belts are also included in the mandatory set. With a pleasant one can be noted adaptive cruise control, adaptive front optics.

The vehicle dynamics system will indicate the status of the Velar. Cruise control can fully automate the movement of the crossover in traffic jams or at low speeds. Adaptation to road surface, the system automatically decides which mode and suspension stiffness is better to choose.

Security systems include the presence of a blind spot monitoring system, an active parking system and many various sensors... For towing will be used separate system, which is responsible for the maneuverability with the trailer and its functionality. Correctly calculated speed and distance will prevent the crossover from toppling over. While driving reverse with a trailer, the all-round visibility system will show the optimal trajectory and help turn the steering wheel in the desired direction.

By modern technologies an interesting keyless entry system can be noted, now instead of Smart Key technology, Active Key is used. A wrist bracelet is used as a keychain, somewhat reminiscent of a fitness bracelet. For top-end configurations The Velar can be replaced by a stylish touchscreen watch from Land Rover at the request of the buyer.

If you already have such a watch from another manufacturer, then in dealership you can flash them for your car for free, so you automatically get an active access system based on the clock. For fans of smartphone control, Land Rover offers an app that provides complete information on the Range Rover Velar crossover.

Configuration and cost

As already mentioned, Land Rover introduced full list complete sets for the Russian market, and also named their cost in rubles. The initial equipment of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar is divided into:
  • regular Velar - from 3,880,000 rubles;
  • Velar S a complete set costing from 4,400,000 rubles;

  • the last Velar in this variant of R-Dynamic HSE from 5739000 p.
The maximum configuration of the Range Rover Velar First Edition is available in just one kit version and will cost from 7,178,000 rubles.

As you can see, for the price new crossover quite expensive, but will there be such a high-quality assembly, and reliability remains to be seen? Due to the unpleasant experience with the older brothers Range Rover, the usual and Sport, who have been to the service station more often than on the road, many will not rush to buy such a new crossover yet. But after a while, a large influx of buyers is still expected.
