Rear: intake manifold and throttle assembly, fuel rail with injectors, oil pressure sensor (bottom), generator (bottom right) and starter (bottom left). The ignition coil block is attached to the cylinder head cover. The engine block is cast from cast iron, the cylinders are bored in the block. At the bottom of the cylinder block there are five crankshaft main bearing mounts with removable covers that are bolted to the block. Bearing holes are machined complete with covers, so the covers are not interchangeable and are marked for distinguishing.
The pistons are made of aluminum alloy. The piston skirt is tapered in longitudinal section, oval in transverse section. On the upper part of each piston, near the bottom, there are annular grooves in which the piston rings are installed: two compression rings (prevent the breakthrough of gases into the engine crankcase and remove heat from the piston to the cylinder) and one oil scraper (removes excess engine oil from the cylinder walls). Piston pins - steel, tubular, "floating" type. Connecting rods - steel, I-section, processed together with connecting rod bearing caps. The steel crankshaft has five main journals and four connecting rod journals and is fitted with counterweights cast integrally with the shaft. To supply oil from the main journals to the connecting rod journals, channels are made in the crankshaft. The axial movement of the crankshaft is limited by thrust half rings installed in the grooves of the third main bearing support.
The liners of the main and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft are steel, with an anti-friction working surface made of aluminum and tin alloy. On the toe of the crankshaft are installed toothed pulley a camshaft drive and a double pulley for driving auxiliary units: a generator (with one poly V-belt), a power steering pump and an air conditioning compressor (with another poly-V belt). The crankshaft pulley is composite: the outer and inner parts are connected by a rubber insert (damper) to damp torsional vibrations of the crankshaft. A cast iron flywheel is attached to the crankshaft flange with six bolts. A steel gear ring is pressed onto the flywheel, which serves to start the engine with a starter. The cylinder head is cast from an aluminum alloy. A non-shrinking metal-reinforced gasket is installed between the block and the head, which cannot be reused after removing the block head. In the upper part of the heads to and the cylinder block there is a five support camshaft... The shaft has eight cams to drive the valves.

Seats and valve guides are pressed into the cylinder head. On top of the guide sleeve of each valve is an oil deflector cap made of oil-resistant rubber with steel reinforcement. The valves are made of steel. Plate area intake valve larger than the outlet area. The valves are actuated (opened) from the camshaft cams through the rocker arms. Adjustment of thermal clearances in the valve drive is carried out in accordance with the car maintenance schedule. Each valve is closed by one spring. With its lower end, it rests on a washer, and with its upper end, on a plate held by two breadcrumbs. The folded crackers have the shape of a truncated cone on the outside, and a shoulder is made on their inner surfaces to hold them on the valve stem.

The engine lubrication system is combined: under pressure and spray. The pressure in the system is created by a pump with gears and an internal gear. All oil from the pump passes through a full-flow oil filter equipped with bypass and anti-drain valves. The drive gear of the oil pump is mounted on the toe of the crankshaft. The pump takes oil from the oil pan through an oil receiver and feeds it through a filter to the main oil line, from which oil channels leave to the crankshaft main bearings. From the main oil line (along the vertical channel in the cylinder block), oil is supplied to the cylinder head to lubricate the axles of the rocker arms and the camshaft bearings. From the cylinder head, oil is drained through vertical drainage channels into the oil pan. Oil is sprayed onto the cylinder walls, piston rings and pins. The rest of the units are lubricated by gravity.
In the engine lubrication system, it is permissible to use only engine oil with parameters (viscosity and quality level) recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. It is not allowed to operate the engine with a low oil level and mix different types of oil in the crankcase: this leads to the failure of engine parts and expensive repairs. The crankcase ventilation system is forced, closed, with gas extraction through an oil separator located in the cylinder head cover.

Daewoo Matiz has been produced for the second decade - first in
Korea, then Uzbekistan. Indeed, due to the small size, simplicity
design and poor equipment, even the new Matiz is still one of
the cheapest cars on the market. And already used ...

The fact that Matiz looks modern even after 17 years is a merit
Italians from the ItalDesign studio, who hoped that

Koreans.

And technically, Matiz is Daewoo Tico, which, in turn,
is a 1982 Suzuki Alto. Not the worst for their own
years of construction, and if she had any "childhood diseases", they
long ago cured by the Japanese. Inherited from Tico Matiz three-cylinder
0.8 liter motor (with multipoint fuel injection instead of
carburetor, and since 2002 with a neutralizer), mechanical
transmission and suspension elements.

In 2002, the engine received a "brother" with a fourth cylinder and
additional 12 hp power - being less loaded, liter

kilometers. Of course, the figure is not God knows what - today is average
"Mileage" of motors up to one and a half liters is 250-300 thousand
kilometers. But equally archaic, although more powerful one and a half liter

On little things, both engines begin to bother even earlier. Signal about
malfunctions on dashboard sometimes appears after 10 thousand

run unevenly or stall when asking to replace the position sensor

often requires replacement of the ignition distributor with an electromagnetic

more reliable electronic ignition modules that appeared on the younger
motor only with its transfer to Euro-3 at the end of 2008.

By 50-60 thousand kilometers, a burnt-out muffler can loudly
require repairs, and the fuel pump ($ 200) - replacements. The latter is more often
happens to machines with steel, not plastic tanks... Which of the tanks
installed on the car - a lottery, and when buying a gas pump, be
attentive - they differ in the type of gas tank.

Every 20-30 thousand kilometers, motors need extremely simple
- a screw with a lock nut - adjusting the clearances in the valve mechanism.
The timing belt is prescribed by the factory
renew every 80-90 thousand kilometers, but its cliffs, sentencing
a cylinder head for expensive repairs is not uncommon. Better
do not take risks and change the belt with rollers ahead of schedule - after 40-60 thousand
kilometers ($ 150 with work). And don't forget along with the timing belt
install the cooling system pump driven by it ($ 70) - until the next

can add oil leakage from "all cracks" - oil seals crack and
seals.
