How to choose an engine oil for a Volkswagen Polo. Choosing oil for Volkswagen Polo Sedan Oil for Polo Sedan 1.6 Castrol

For multigrade oil - double number. The first is viscosity at negative temperatures. The second is the viscosity at positive temperatures.

Low-temperature viscosity indicators:

  • 0W - used at temperatures up to -35 degrees. WITH
  • 5W - used at temperatures up to -30 degrees. WITH
  • 10W - used at temperatures up to -25 degrees. WITH
  • 15W - used at temperatures up to -20 degrees. WITH
  • 20W - used at temperatures up to -15 degrees. WITH
Indicators of high-temperature viscosity:

Much the second is more interesting number in designation - high temperature viscosity... It cannot be translated as simply as the first into a language understandable to a motorist, because it is a collective indicator indicating the minimum and maximum viscosity of the oil at operating temperatures of 100-150 ° C. The higher the number, the higher the viscosity of the engine oil at high temperatures. Good, or bad for your engine - only the car manufacturer knows.

What kind of oil is the engine filled at the factory? What to buy for topping up?

Manufacturing plant Volkswagen brands, pours engine oil into engines, which, in terms of their properties, fully comply with the requirements for tolerances, which are listed below.

Thus, using the data on engine oil tolerances, you can buy any engine oil for topping up.

What kind of engine oil do dealers fill in the polo sedan?

The dealership will definitely offer to replace it with the original engine oil. Unfortunately, its cost does not always justify itself.

To reduce the cost of maintenance, dealers can offer, in addition to the original engine oil, any other that meets the tolerances indicated above.

It can be Liquid Moli, Gazprom and any other motor oils.

Since we often answer the question which motor oil for vw polo sedan / vw polo sedan should be filled in to the car owner. We decided to post a screen from the factory program official dealers VW for the selection of spare parts ETKA.

Based on this illustration, the original engine oil that should be poured into the Volkswagen Polo Sedan engine has the following characteristics:

Title: Special Plus
Original number: 5 liter pack
1 liter pack
60 liter barrel
Viscosity: 5w-40
Tolerance: VW50200 / 50501

Despite the factory parameters, many Moscow official Volkswagen dealers recommend pouring other engine oil to the owners of the vw polo sedan:

Title: LongLife 3
Original number: 5 liter pack
G 052195M2
1 liter pack
G 052195M660 liter barrel

Viscosity: 5w-30
Tolerance: VW50400 / 50700

As a cheaper alternative, many dealers offer:
Castrol EDGE Professional Longlife 3 5W-30 VW 504 00/507 00 Approved

This oil was originally developed for longer drain intervals.
But in practice, in Russian conditions, we still recommend changing this oil with a mileage interval of 7500-10000 km.

I would like to emphasize that all the oil presented in our store was purchased strictly from the warehouses of official Volkswagen dealers. Thus, we exclude the sale fake oil, which is often found on the shelves of Russian spare parts stores.

The engine life, which is one of the most expensive units on a car, directly depends on the quality and frequency of engine oil changes. The owner needs to know what kind of oil to fill in the Volkswagen Polo sedan or hatchback engine and how often it needs to be replaced.

When to change the oil?

For all types of Volkswagen Polo engines, the manufacturer indicates in the service literature an oil change interval of 15 thousand kilometers traveled or once a year. But if the car often drives in urban traffic jams and is idling, the lubricant will age faster. Therefore, many owners change the fluid a little more often - once every 10 thousand km. This interval will increase the engine life. When buying a used car, you should not postpone the oil change, even if the date indicated in the service book has not yet come.

What is the best oil to use?

The Volkswagen plant recommends the use of engine oil in its cars in accordance with the VW 504 00 or VW 502 00 standard. The first class of fluid provides for the use of only high-quality fuel, which in our realities is far from always possible. Therefore, a lubricant of the second standard is more preferable, which is less demanding on the quality of the fuel used. If it is necessary to top up, it is allowed to use oils ACEA standard A3 / B4 or API SN / SM, but not more than half a liter.

At the factory, engine oil is poured into Volkswagen Polo engines Castrol Magnatec 5W-40. According to the owners, CFNA units are very capricious and sensitive to the quality of the lubricant. Therefore, it is recommended for them to use original oil VAG Special Plus 5W-40 (article G052167M4 - 5 liters or G052167M2 - 1 liter).

To choose which oil to fill in the Volkswagen Polo sedan or hatchback engine, you need to familiarize yourself with the popular fluid options that have VW 502 00 approval:

  • Liqui Moly Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40;
  • Top Tec 4100 5W-40;
  • Motul Xcess 8100 5W-40;
  • Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40;
  • Castrol Edge Proffesional Long life III 5W-40.

How much to fill in the engine and level control

When buying oil, it is advisable to take it with a margin for topping up. Volkswagen engines often consume fluid during operation, so such foresight will not be superfluous. For Polo sedan and hatchback engines, the norm is consumption of up to one liter of oil for every 2 thousand kilometers. At the same time, the plant allows even more high consumption lubricants on new cars up to the first 5 thousand kilometers traveled.

The amount of fluid in the crankcase depends on the model of the power unit. On a 1.6 liter CFNA engine, 3.6 liters of oil is placed in the crankcase, but in fact it can enter 3.8-4.0 liters. In this case, the level on the dipstick will not exceed the maximum mark. On the rest of the four-cylinder engines, the amount of lubricant is the same. The three-cylinder CJLA has the smallest sump, which can hold no more than 2.8 liters of fluid.

The engine has a dipstick to check the oil level. The check should be carried out on a cold engine. When the fluid level is at mark A, refilling is prohibited, since excess lubricant will damage the power unit. Mark B corresponds to the normal volume of fluid, and when the level drops to mark C, add oil.

Dipstick marks

In turbocharged Volkswagen engines Polo sedan an oil level sensor is installed, which displays a warning about an inappropriate amount to the instrument cluster. Nevertheless, it is better to control the level on the dipstick, without bringing it down to a critical level.

How to change the oil yourself?

Oil change for Volkswagen Polo does not apply to complex types of car repair and maintenance. To do this, you need to have a garage with a viewing hole or a lift, as well as about an hour and a half of free time. When changing the fluid in the unit, it is necessary to change oil filter and a drain plug, on the mating surface of which there is a copper-plated gasket. Some owners reuse it, but this is undesirable, since there is a risk of grease leakage from under the old seal.

Tools and materials

Before starting work, you need to buy expendable materials, including the filter, which is chosen depending on the type of engine installed on the Volkswagen Polo:

  1. On the CFNA or CFNB engine, which was installed on the Polo Sedan until the fall of 2015, the original oil filter with part number 03C115561D or a newer version 03C115561H is used. A good alternative part from Mahle Knecht, the article of which is OC 5933. The oil drain hole is closed with a plug N90813202 with a thread size M14 * 1.5 * 22.
  2. On a newer CWVA or CWVB engine, install cleaning element 04E115561H. These units use a plug N90288901 with a thread size M14 * 1.5 * 16, equipped with a replaceable gasket N0138157 with a dimension of 14 * 20 mm. The turbocharged 1.4 liter engine has the same oil filter and cover.
  3. For the 85-horsepower CLPA engine of the Polo hatchback, filter 030115561AN and plug N90813202 are used. On a 105-horsepower unit, the 03C115561B device and the N90813202 plug (similar to the CFNA motor) are used. The weakest 75-horsepower motor is equipped with a 03D198819C device, an M14 * 1.5 N0160276 cover with a N0138492 ring. On diesel engines, filters 03P115562 (1.2 liter version) and 03L115562 (for 1.6 liter engine) are used. Cork drain hole identical - N90813202.

As a result, you can get started with the following:

  • fresh oil in a volume of at least 4 liters;
  • new oil filter and drain plug;
  • wrenches with sizes 13 and 18 mm.
  • torque wrench (if present).
  • chain filter puller or gas wrench. Ideally, a key cup with a size of 74 or 80 mm is used to remove the devices (depending on the type of motor);
  • to dismantle the standard protection, you will need a screwdriver or a TORX head wrench;
  • stable empty container for 4.5-5 liters for draining mining;
  • clean funnel for filling in fresh oil;
  • rags and a piece of plastic wrap (a large 200 liter garbage bag will do);
  • gloves.

The procedure for filling oil through the oil separator cover is shown in the video from the GARAGE-58 channel.

Step-by-step instruction

Before draining and changing the oil in a Volkswagen Polo Sedan 2013, 2014 or other model year with a CFNA or CFNB engine, drive the car up to 10 km to completely warm up the fluid in the crankcase of the unit.

Then the car must be installed on an inspection pit or lift and the following steps must be performed:

  1. Remove the engine undertray. It can be factory-supplied (made of plastic) or optional, already installed by the owner. The second option is usually made of steel sheet. When removing the standard protection, it is necessary to unscrew the fastening screws starting from the front ones, since the sheet has special latches on the front edge.
  2. Then you need to wipe the engine around the oil filler neck and unscrew its cap. After that, it is necessary to clean the sump of the unit and the drain plug from dirt with a rag.
  3. Carefully unscrew the oil drain plug with an 18 mm wrench, keeping a container ready for collecting waste. Holding the lid on the last thread, it is necessary to bring the container, unscrew the plug completely and immediately remove it to the side. This operation must be carried out quickly and carefully, as the oil is hot and the head will be quite significant.
  4. After draining the bulk of the liquid, you need to put the container on the bottom of the pit or on the floor of the room to collect the remaining oil from the crankcase. It takes at least 15-20 minutes to completely drain the grease. Some car owners additionally pump out the residues from the grooves of the sump using a medical syringe and an extension tube from the dropper, which is put on the spout.
  5. Close drive belt auxiliary units and the generator with plastic wrap, thick cloth or rags. This is to protect the components from possible oil droplets from the old filter.
  6. Thoroughly wipe the engine crankcase around the cleaner with a rag to remove dirt and dust deposits.
  7. , being careful not to remove the fitting together with the device. If it is impossible to complete the task manually, you can resort to using a chain filter puller or a gas wrench. In the absence of these tools, you will have to punch the device through closer to the upper part with a beard and, using it as a lever, unscrew the part from the motor.
  8. Wipe the filter installation site with a clean cloth. Then you need to lubricate the O-ring of the new part with oil and install it in place. It is necessary to tighten the oil filter by hand; under the conditions of official service, it is pulled out with a torque of 20 Nm. Pouring fresh grease inside is not performed, since the cleaner is installed almost vertically and it will leak out during installation.
  9. Screw a new screw plug into the pan and fill the engine with 3 liters of oil, and then add to the normal level. The size of the oil filler neck is small, so it is better to use a funnel and pour the grease in small portions. Some owners fill the CFNA motor with fluid through the removed oil separator cover. This technique allows you to do it faster and without spills. The amount of liquid must be controlled using a dipstick.
  10. When the lubricant level is normal, close the filler cap and start the engine. The emergency oil pressure lamp should go out after a few seconds of unit operation. Since a certain volume of liquid will go into the inside of the filter, it is necessary to check the level and, if necessary, bring it to normal.
  11. Reinstall the removed engine undertray parts.
  12. Place the Polo Sedan car on a horizontal platform, drown out power unit, wait 3-4 minutes and check the lubricant level again.

For more modern motors CWVA, applied since 2016, the oil change procedure is the same except for a few points.

Cars volkswagen polo sedan, equipped with different modifications engine that differ in characteristics and design. The most popular engine is an in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve 105-horsepower engine with a volume of 1.6 liters, and with
gasoline injection. This power unit is very demanding on the quality of the lubricant used.

Car enthusiasts often wonder what kind of oil to fill in the Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6 petrol engine? V technical guidance To this vehicle recommend using oils:

  • 5w-30 ;
  • 5w-40 ;
  • 10w-60 ;
  • 10w-40 .

During the production of the Volkswagen Polo, Shell Helix ultra extra 5w-30 engine oil is poured into the engine, which is recommended for replacement during vehicle maintenance.

This oil, practically the most technological and perfect, in the line of oils Shell brands... The viscosity grade of 5w30 oil is primarily designed to reduce frictional losses of parts, as well as reduce gasoline consumption.

The viscosity of an oil is its ability to linger on engine parts, and at the same time remain with a certain fluidity.

In addition, this oil has modern admission, which is suitable for most loaded motors, including those with turbines.

However, another factor affects the brand of the oil being replaced, namely the presence of a catalyst or particulate filter on the car. If the machine is equipped particulate filter, then you need to use oil with a tolerance of at least 507, with the catalyst installed, you can use oil with a tolerance of 505. These oil tolerances for engines can be found on the oil canister label.

What kind of oil to fill in the engine volkswagen polo sedan 1.6 petrol, it is up to each car owner individually, but it is worth knowing some points. If you take 5w-30 oil, for example, the first part before the 5w dash is the low temperature viscosity. It means that cold starts of the car can be done down to -35 degrees (40 must be subtracted from the number in front of the letter “w”). This temperature is the minimum for of this oil, in which it can be pumped by an oil pump, without dry friction. Subtracting everything from the same figure 35, you get the number -30, which indicates the minimum temperature at which you can turn the engine.

If the car is planned to be operated in a region where the temperature does not drop below -20 degrees in winter, you can choose the oil with any number at the beginning of the oil marking. The second number in the oil marking is difficult to explain in simple terms, it is a combination of indications of the maximum and minimum viscosity, in the operating temperature range of the engine, it is worth knowing only one thing, the higher the indicator, the greater the viscosity of the oil in the heated engine.

Everything would be fine, the motor is like a motor, if it were not for the knock of the engine on a cold one. Too many CFNA engines begin to knock before reaching even one hundred thousand kilometers, and in some cases the defect occurs already in the first 30 thousand.

Be careful when purchasing. A common problem is a progressive knock after a cold start.

Engine Polo Sedan CFNA 1.6 liters. 105 h.p.

In due time, the exit to Russian market Polo Sedan models costing from 399 tr. (!) became a sensation and was considered an achievement of the Volkswagen concern. Still would! Get it for that kind of money Volkswagen quality- many dreamed about it. But, as is often the case, low price badly affected the quality of the product - the Polo Sedan engine CFNA 1.6 L 105 HP was not as reliable as expected.

CFNA 1.6 engine was installed not only on the Polo Sedan, but also on other models of the Volkswagen concern, including those assembled abroad. From 2010 to 2015, this motor was installed on the following models:

Volkswagen

    • Lavida
    • Vento
    • Polo sedan
    • Jetta
    • Fabia
    • Roomster
    • Rapid

If you do not know which engine is installed on this particular car, then you can find out by the VIN-code of the car.

CFNA problems

The main problem of the engine CFNA 1.6 is an knock "cold"... At first, the knock of the pistons on the cylinder walls is manifested by a slight tinkling in the first minutes after a cold start. As it warms up, the piston expands, pressing against the cylinder walls, so the knock disappears until the next cold start.

At first, the owner may not attach any importance to this, but the knocking progresses and soon even an inattentive car owner realizes that something is wrong with the engine. The very appearance of a knock (the impact of the piston on the cylinder wall) indicates the beginning of the active phase of the destruction of the engine. With the arrival of summer, the knocking may recede, but with the first frosts, CFNA will knock again.

Gradually, knock CFNA engine"Cold" increases its duration, and once, it remains even after the engine warms up.

CFNA: engine knock

The knock of the engine piston on the cylinder wall occurs when the pistons are shifted at top dead center. This becomes possible as a result of wear on the pistons and cylinder walls. The graphite coating of the skirts wears out quickly to the metal of the piston

Significant depletion occurs in places where the piston frictions against the cylinder wall.

Then the metal of the piston begins to beat against the cylinder wall and then there are seizures on the piston skirt

And on the cylinder wall

Despite a large number of complaints, the Volkswagen concern over the years of production CFNA engine(2010-2015) never announced a revocable company. Instead of replacing the entire unit, the manufacturer performs repair piston group , and even then only in the case of a claim under warranty.

The Volkswagen Group has not disclosed the results of its research, but scant explanations suggest that cause of defect supposedly consists unsuccessful piston design... In the event of a claim under warranty, service centers replace the standard EM pistons with modified ETs, which supposedly should completely solve the problem of knocking pistons in the cylinders.

But as practice shows, overhaul of the CFNA engine is not the final solution to the problem and half of the owners again complain about the appearance of engine knocking, after a few thousand km. mileage. The other half of those faced with the knock of this engine, after the overhaul, are trying to sell the car as soon as possible.

There is a version that chronic oil starvation caused by low oil pressure may be the real reason for the rapid wear of the CFNA engine. The oil pump does not provide sufficient pressure when the engine is running at rpm idle move, therefore, the motor is regularly in the oil starvation mode, which leads to its accelerated wear.

Engine resource CFNA 1.6 l. 105 h.p.

Declared by the manufacturer engine resource Polo Sedan is 200 thousand km, but traditionally 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engines manufactured by Volkswagen must walk at least 300-400 thousand km.

A defect such as the knock of pistons on a cold one makes these numbers irrelevant. The Volkswagen group does not disclose official statistics, but judging by the activity on the forums, 5 out of 10 CFNA engines begin to knock on runs from 30 to 100 thousand km. There are also known cases of manifestation of a defect on runs less than 10 thousand km.

However, it should be noted that cases of jammed motor CFNA was not recorded. This is probably due to the fact that the knocking progresses gradually and gives time to make a decision to repair the engine or sell the car.

Among the large number of complaints about knocking, there are isolated reports of successful long-term operation a motor that has a knock on a cold one, which supposedly does not progress and does not bother. Unfortunately, such messages are not confirmed by video recordings and, most likely, there is a knock here not of pistons, but of hydraulic compensators. According to the reviews of car owners, whose engine began to knock for real, it soon becomes impossible to ignore this knock. The ringing becomes such that “it’s embarrassing to stand next to the car” and “you can hear it from the balcony of the 7th floor”.

CFNA engine replacement

If the car is under warranty, the manufacturer performs a free warranty repair, replacing the standard EM pistons with modified ET ones. The cylinder block and crankshaft can also be replaced, but these expensive parts are not always changed under warranty.

CFNA timing chain

Engine equipped with a timing chain drive... The steel chain is designed to eliminate breakage and provide higher reliability compared to a belt drive. In addition, the chain must guarantee a service life of at least 150 tkm, but in fact, the timing chain of this engine stretches quickly and requires replacement already by 100 tkm of run.

The chain tensioner does not have a backstop and operates only by the oil pressure, which is pumped by the oil pump and occurs only after the engine is started. Thus, the chain tension occurs only when the engine is running, and while the engine is stopped, the stretched chain can move with the tensioner.

In this regard, it is not recommended to park the car in a parking lot with the gear engaged, but without fixing. parking brake... When starting the engine, the stretched chain may jump on the camshaft gears. In this case, it is possible for the valves to meet the piston, which leads to expensive engine repairs.

Exhaust manifold crack

Over time, during operation, the standard CFNA exhaust manifold cracks and the car begins to growl deeply. It is advisable to replace the exhaust manifold free of charge, before the end of the warranty, otherwise it will either have to be replaced (for 47 thousand rubles) or welded (as in the photo), which will be cheaper.
