How to tune the dashboard. How to make the dashboard backlight with diodes Electronic panel in a car with your own hands

An optitron is a special illumination system for the instrument cluster. It works in this way: when the car ignition is off, the instrument cluster remains invisible. After turning the key, the arrows on the instruments should be the first to "come to life", and only after them are the instruments themselves - the speedometer, tachometer and other sensors.

The optitron has a special anti-glare background, thanks to which all pointers are well read in any conditions.

Required components

Lamp "Mayak" - a donor of components for lighting.

Lamp "Lighthouse", rear view.

SMD LEDs are actually what I was looking for in a lamp. The size is about 3 by 4 mm.

Entire lamp, consumption in "dimensions" mode.

Entire lamp, consumption in stop-light mode.

LEDs, 330 ohm resistors.

Blanks of printed circuit boards, cut on a lathe.

The boards are marked for the installation of components. The black points between the tracks are the places where the LEDs are installed.

Marking "tracks" on the board. Here is the fifth, the inner track is superfluous, I wanted to do a two-color backlight first, changed my mind.

Arrangement of LEDs by 3 in a cluster.

Alternatively, you can place LEDs on one track in series, it will be even easier, plus saving one track, but my version is more reliable.

We make an optitron

I am trying to clean the filter at the edge of the scale. The peculiarity of these scales is that they are oriented towards the use of ordinary light bulbs, therefore an additional layer of a dark filter (dots) is applied to them, which ensures uniformity of illumination (closer to the light bulb, it is darker). A yellow filter is also visible under the white diffusion layer. I would leave yellow, but removing black and white without touching yellow is unrealistic.

This is how it looks in the light. Despite the white backlighting, the numbers are still yellow thanks to the yellow filter, so it will have to be removed, although I did not want to.

Illumination of fuel and temperature gauges. I was afraid that there would not be enough three LEDs per scale, it turned out in vain - the scale is illuminated evenly, the gradient is not noticeable to the eye. Yes! As a result, there are only 3 tracks left.

Rear temperature and fuel gauges. The light filter is partially removed in the right places.

Ready-made scales for temperature and fuel.

I remove the light filter on the tachometer. I use nail polish remover and pieces of cotton pads (we take everything from the arsenal of my wife / mother / sister). The technology is as follows: we soak the pieces in liquid and apply them to the place for a minute. While we are doing the next one, the previous one will get wet and the coating can be easily removed with a fingernail. Neatly! The front side is very sensitive to solvents, especially alcohol!

I install the backlight of the tachometer. The hot melt glue from the "pistol" serves as support and fasteners at the same time.
Minus - in this version, the tachometer turned out to be non-removable.

Ready tachometer scale.

"Combined" lighting. LED tachometer, normal speedometer. Temperature scale and fuel gauge - with double illumination. Here the photo does not quite correctly convey the effect.

Speedometer backlight board. The main difficulty turned out to be here. Due to the built-in odometer, the speedometer device is very bulky and very little space is left for the backlight. As a result, there are very few trims and undercuts left from the scarf.

Rear speedometer backlight board. Had to rebuild the track this way

I install the speedometer backlight. Two lights did not fit, moved to the side surface

I connect the speedometer backlight, check it. Between the tachometer and the speedometer, common plus and minus are displayed in the T10 base, a protective diode and a common current-limiting resistor (all from the same lamp) are also installed in it, stuck into the standard cartridge from under the backlight.

Ready-made speedometer scale

Entire tidy. At the moment, finished state.

conclusions

- The inner edges of the numbers are slightly shaded by the protruding parts of the devices;
- I didn't shine through the inscriptions, I didn't want to overload the panel with light - it was necessary to seal it with black tape from the inside;
- Odometers were poorly highlighted (one must think);
- The arrows were not highlighted, left the usual bulbs.

The panel is in working order. In the photo it looks close to the present. Time - afternoon, summer. It is bright at night, a little distracting from habit. I hope that over time, the brightness will shrink.

The dashboard is an essential component in any car. However, auto manufacturers don't really bother with the design of this part. Most often, they use a standard, black and white, color scheme, in which to consider the main indicators of gasoline and speed in dark time days is impossible. Therefore, it is worth thinking about brighter and clearer backlighting by making tuning dashboard.

Varieties of tuning the dashboard

In order to make tuning the dashboard with your own hands, you need to know about some subtleties.

It comes in two varieties:

  • functional;
  • aesthetic.

Functional tuning is intended to replace some devices with more accurate ones. Or adding new ones to the existing ones. This kind finishing provides for the addition of data on technical characteristics as well as the general condition of the machine and all appliances. In addition, the current tuning provides for the presence of a meteometer or an original watch.

Aesthetic, in turn, involves only changing the lighting and decorating the appearance of a set of devices. You can see how it will look at this link:

Requirements for the implementation of tunings

Attention! When adding new devices, it is necessary to take into account such a nuance as calibration. It implies the failure of all systems. For its absence, it is better to install all new devices on the top of the dashboard.

Thus, having fulfilled all the requirements, the only thing left to do is to prepare necessary materials and make tuning of the instrumentation.

Tuning stages

Tuning the dashboard for each car model is organized in the same way, with the exception of small subtleties and nuances.

Before starting work, you must prepare the entire set of tools:

  • pliers, screwdrivers, self-tapping screws;
  • sharp knife;
  • all wiring used in tuning4
  • soldering iron.

This is the main arsenal that is required for any kind of tuning. To this list are added those tools that you need when choosing one of the types of finishes.

Important! If you are going to add unusual fixtures or lighting, you should take care in advance of purchasing those materials that can help you with the location on the dashboard.

After preparing everything you need, you can proceed to the work itself.

Dismantling the dashboard

During this procedure, you must proceed with extreme caution. Dismantling the dashboard is the same everywhere.

Functional and aesthetic tuning

After completing these steps, you can proceed to the next part of the disassembly. It is necessary to disassemble the dashboard. For this:

  • the screws holding the shield are unscrewed;
  • all wires are disconnected;
  • the screws holding the nozzles are removed;
  • the buttons for recirculation and automatic alarm are disabled;
  • at the very end, the immobilizer is removed.

Everything is going in reverse order.

There are a lot of tuning options, so you can use either one of the options, as, for example, in this video:

or all at once.

Functional tuning

With this type of tuning, some aesthetic elements are used. First you need to understand the dashboard scale.

For this, there is no need to disassemble or take out something. It is enough to draw a small stencil on the film, which is glued onto the old indicators.

Attention! To make the indicators glow, you can use a special fluorescent paint. Or you can use regular paint.

After you figured out the scale, you can proceed to the installation of devices on the panel. To do this, disassemble the panel until the wires appear. Then the devices that you need are installed.

Aesthetic tuning

After all the devices have been installed, you can proceed to finishing the backlight. The options for such an action are very large. Everyone includes fantasy in this matter and does as he wants. Here are two examples of backlight finishes.

Option 1.

Option 2. You can replace light bulbs with LEDs. This is done like this:

  1. The old film is cleaned or a new one is purchased. Which type to choose is up to you.
  2. It is glued to the dashboard directly on the light bulb.
  3. Colored in green color... This is in the case of purchasing transparencies or using an old one. However, it is best to purchase ready-made, green, film.
  4. The red tint is removed from the arrows, and the numbers themselves are painted with white varnish or paint.

There are other options as well, it all depends on your imagination and ingenuity.

Installing the dashboard

After the tuning has been completely carried out, it is necessary to reinstall the dashboard. This should be done not only carefully, but also correctly. When performing this work, it is important to make sure that all wires are correctly connected and that the devices are functioning correctly.

If all actions are performed correctly, the dashboard of your car will sparkle with new paints. At the same time, the tuning done by you will be no different from that which is done in a car service. The main difference between the two methods is that it will cost you much less money and time than with the work of specialists. And, besides, with self-finishing, you can organize a free flight of imagination.

It was:

Became:

In my reliable, but old Mazda car the dashboard began to clearly indicate his age. Its night lights are now too dim, and the exterior is clearly out of fashion. So I decided to do something and give her a "facelift" :-)

What you need:

  • Factory user's manual for the car.
  • Screwdrivers.
  • Isopropyl alcohol.
  • Matte adhesive paper.
  • Scissors or knife.
  • Diffusion plate (found on older LCD monitors).
  • Instead of a diffuser plate, you can still use 2-3 layers of tracing paper.

Removing the dashboard pointers

Since in different cars this is done in different ways, I would recommend downloading the factory manual directly to your model. In some cases, it's pretty simple, but sometimes you have to put in an effort.

This master class is about how to transform appearance dashboard dials, so I won't go into details on how I managed to remove the dashboard.

Removing pointers

Removing the gauge pointers is fairly straightforward. However, you need to remember about arrows, as they break easily. For convenience, you can use tweezers. The main thing is patience and consistency in actions. Alternatively, the arrow can be tipped with a fork.

If it gets stuck, then warm it up with a construction or regular hair dryer. This will expand the plastic and remove more easily.

Removing the dial

Usually the dial is held by screws or small bolts. Find them and carefully remove the plate. Additionally, it can be held on to small plastic mounts that secure it. Understand how the fastening mechanism works and remove the dial.

Draw the look of the future dial

After removing the dial, the first thing I did was scan it. Then I imported the image into a vector graphics editor, and outlined the contours of the plate. This way, I don't have to measure the exact dimensions of the dial. Then I finished designing the appearance of the new sign and printed it on adhesive paper. I used paper with a matte surface and the image was applied with a color laser printer. You can also use an inkjet printer with photo paper, but the laser image will be of higher quality.

It's time to clean up the old dial

You need to remove the paint from the dial. In order not to spoil the plastic from which the dial is made, I used 70% isopropyl alcohol. The use of solvents for this work is undesirable. Soaking the dial in alcohol softened the paint, and after a few minutes it was easily removed, and in front of me lay two clean plates.

Making stickers

Time to cut the stickers. We take scissors and carefully cut out the desired shape. Now we glue.

To prevent the formation of bubbles when gluing, you need to thoroughly clean the surface of the dial. Peel off a small portion of the sticker from the paper and line it up with your watch face. Stick on the adhesive paper gradually. To do this, you can swipe it with your index finger or a plastic card.

After you have completely glued the paper, you need to cut the corresponding holes in it.

Attach the diffuser plate to the dial

The light from the dashboard bulbs can be unevenly distributed, making some parts of the dial brighter. In order for the light to fall uniformly, a diffuser plate must be attached to the dial. In my case, I used a plate removed from a cracked LCD monitor. After cutting out the shapes I needed, I glued them to the back of the dials.

Note: You can also add a few additional LED lamps, but this is already the topic of another master class.

Many car enthusiasts are not happy with the illumination of their dashboard in the evening and at night. But poor-quality backlighting or its complete absence negatively affects safety road traffic... Therefore, many craftsmen are engaged in auto-tuning with their own hands, making additional lighting your car. And first of all, the lighting of the dashboard is done.

Very often, LEDs are used for these purposes, which have a lot of advantages and allow you to create high-quality lighting inside the car interior with your own hands. This article will tell you how you can install this type of lighting in the dashboard and the nuances that should be observed in this situation.

What is additional lighting for?

Today, car tuning is carried out not only outside, but also inside its cabin and better place than the dashboard is not to be found. Diodes built into the panel will achieve the following benefits:

  • give the dashboard a new unusual look;
  • high-quality highlight important elements dashboard;
  • make additional lighting of the vehicle interior;
  • make the trip by car more comfortable;
  • improve road safety. When the instrument panel is well lit, all indicators are perfectly visible on it, which allow you to correctly assess the position of the car on the road and not violate the rules of the road with your driving.

The most in a simple way lighting of such an element of the machine as the dashboard is the installation of diodes in it. The following types of LED products can be used here:

  • separate diodes. Using them as backlights, you can create full or decorative dashboard lighting. It is worth noting that LEDs can glow different colors... Therefore, such an LED backlight can beautifully complement external tuning, glowing with him in the same color scheme;

Note! Additional illumination of the dashboard, created using such diodes, allows them to be built into almost any part of the board. As a result, the backlight will fully meet the requirements of the car owner and provide lighting where there is really a need for it.

  • LED Strip Light. Such a tape is very often used as a decorative lighting not only for a car, but also for home premises or street elements. It can be easily replaced with another, which will allow you to change the boring color scheme to a new one. The LED strip has a self-adhesive base, with the help of which it can be installed by hand quite easily and rather quickly.

LED Strip Light

Despite the simplicity of working with LED strip, diodes are most often used to illuminate the car dashboard. This choice is associated with certain advantages of using just this type of backlight.

Why is LED backlight preferred

At the moment, there are a variety of products on the lighting market that can be used to illuminate any brand of car.

Note! Not every car brand really needs this kind of lighting. Some manufacturers include high-quality LED backlighting in the dashboard already at the production stage. Usually this situation is typical for expensive foreign cars.

Industrial lighting of the dashboard

But in most vehicles, such additional lighting is missing or incomplete. This situation is especially true for old models that were made in those days when they had not heard about LED backlighting.
Choosing an LED type of lighting, car owners are guided by the following positive aspects of such lighting:

  • diodes of such a plan are small in size, which allows them to be installed anywhere on the dashboard. Moreover, they are easily massaged;
  • simple soldering of LEDs for their various connections to each other. Moreover, if the LED strip is being re-soldered, then this procedure is carried out according to certain rules, which are also typical for working with individual diodes;
  • even a small number of diodes installed on the panel can create a full-fledged type of lighting, sufficient for comfortable driving;

Pay attention! With the help of such elements, you can even make an alarm backlight.

  • the ability to make not only white, but also colored backlighting. Diodes can give a beautiful and frequent glow of green, yellow, red, purple, green or blue flowers... At the same time, replacement with a new color is possible in the future and will not require excessive efforts from the car owner;

LED glow

  • This type of lighting consumes a minimum amount of electricity, which is very important for a car and its signaling, which is powered by a battery.

At the same time, the installation of diodes is not very difficult. Here you only need to correctly connect the elements of the lighting system to each other. Almost any person can handle such work with their own hands.

Features of the organization of LED backlighting

LED Light Bulb for Car

When using LED backlighting for a car, you can use diode bulbs with a standard base. In this way, you can illuminate the instrument buttons on the panel. In a situation where several devices should be illuminated at once, for high-quality lighting, an LED lamp should be used, placed in a special holder. This requires a special soldering. But you can just buy in a store or market.

In addition, to illuminate the dashboard of the car and its signaling, you can use bulbs that give a narrow luminous flux. It can be obtained from an ordinary light bulb by using a special diffuser (lenses) for lighting. Thus, in the first situation, the lighting will be point, and in the second, the luminous flux will fall at a certain angle.
When organizing button illumination, you can use light sources with a directional luminous flux. But to illuminate the speedometer and alarm panel, preference should be given to bulbs that give a large angle of dispersion. Although this can already be left to the individual choice of the car owner.

How the arrow lights are organized

Very often in a car, it is precisely the illumination of the dashboard arrows that is needed.

Instrument arrow illumination

In a situation where it is necessary to install diode lighting of the arrows on the dashboard, the following manipulations must be performed:

  • we carry out cleaning of the paint of the arrow from three sides. The paint is cleaned from the bottom of the arrow and along its sides;
  • after that, the cleaned surfaces should be painted over with a clerical white stroke or white nail polish. You can also use regular white paint, but it will be a little more fiddling with it;

Note! Shading the arrows in White color will help increase the light effect.

Filled speedometer arrows

  • after that we take three LEDs. They need to be soldered together in series;
  • the soldered LEDs should be placed in the dashboard. In it, you first need to drill holes for installing diodes and masking wires.

After that, they are connected to a power source and your arrow will glow with the color of the selected LEDs.
Some craftsmen make the arrow backlight in such a way that it can change color depending on the change in the speedometer readings. to organize such a backlight, you need to use diodes of three different colors:

  • green;
  • Red;
  • blue.

These colors are standard. Remember that for each arrow you need to use three diodes in the sequence in which you want to get the glow. Thus, the luminous flux will be sufficient for high-quality illumination of the metric part of the device.

Ready arrow illumination

Usually, green is used for the minimum indicators, and red for the maximum. Diodes should be placed under each arrow in the circle of its movement.

Organization of illumination of the stove control buttons

The second most popular situation in the organization of dashboard lighting in a car is the illumination of the buttons for controlling the stove.

Foil reflector

The organization of the backlighting of the console buttons designed to control the stove is as follows:

  • first, remove the handles, as well as the glass from the control unit;
  • we make a reflector out of foil. It will need to be fixed under the removed glass;
  • then carefully unscrew the bottom of the console. Under it will be located a cartridge with an old light source, which must be replaced;
  • we replace the old light bulb with an LED;

Note! Under the lower part of the console you can install led strip... She, thanks to her self-adhesive base, will easily take the necessary position. In this situation, it will be connected with its own wires through the socket. The main thing here is to observe the polarity of the wires, otherwise the LED strip will not glow.

  • after installing the LED, we return all parts of the console to their original place in the reverse order.

Ready console lighting

The simplest way to create a highlight involves the following manipulations:

  • we get the button from the console;
  • we disassemble it into its constituent elements;
  • inside such a button there should be a light bulb that changes to an LED;
  • if necessary, you can remove the filter from the button or combine it with a new glow of the diode. As a result, you can get a new beautiful and unique shade.

As you can see, the backlight of the console, designed to control the stove in the car, is quite easy.

Combined instrument lighting

To implement this type of lighting, you need to stock up on the following materials:

  • double sided tape;
  • LED in the socket (three pieces);
  • foil.

In order to remove the dashboard, it is necessary to clarify the removal steps with the instructions that are attached to vehicle... The algorithm of actions here is as follows:

  • removing the instrument combination;
  • carefully unscrew the speedometer cable and disconnect all available plugs;
  • at the top of the dashboard should be placed backlight sources - three bulbs. There will also be a green filter here. It can be removed or left;
  • the light bulb is replaced with LEDs and a foil diffuser is installed. We fix it with double-sided tape.

Ready dashboard lights

After that, it remains only to collect all the panel parts and install them in their original places.

Note! In any case, the organization of the backlight, you can safely experiment with the colors of the LEDs to get the most beautiful type of glow.

Conclusion

In order to qualitatively replace the dashboard lighting, you can use both individual LEDs and a whole LED strip. In this case, the illumination can be carried out as a separate part of the console, and its entire area. The main thing is to correctly connect the diodes and the tape, without confusing the polarity of the wires.

The dashboard of a car is a very important part of it. It is with the help of the dashboard that the motorist can quickly orientate himself on the road and make the right decision, understand whether he should increase speed or it is time to move to another gear stage. In any case, not only the safety of the motorist on the road, but also his comfort while driving, will depend on how well the dashboard will work.

It is also worth saying about the appearance of the dashboard, because it is the dashboard that the driver constantly sees in front of him. And it is this element of the car that should be monitored and, if necessary, put in order, regardless of whether you have an old car or a new one.
Even with the simplest actions that almost any motorist who can disassemble the dashboard of his car can perform, you can transform it and make it truly unique.

What is dashboard tuning

Tuning of this element of the car can be conditionally attributed to either functional improvements or aesthetic ones. Often, motorists who are thinking about improving the dashboard of a car pursue both goals and want to make the dashboard both more beautiful and more functional.

Quite complex, but interesting process of tuning the dashboard in detail:

Functional tuning is primarily aimed at either replacing the controls or instruments of the car with more advanced analogs, or simply involves adding additional instruments or controls. The main purpose of such tuning is to improve the quality of obtaining information about the condition of the car or about weather or other conditions overboard.
Aesthetic tuning, in turn, is aimed solely at improving the appearance of the dashboard. Naturally, such improvements can be made even to the detriment of functionality, which does not always have a good effect on the car, but if a person wants to do something with his car, it is difficult to stop him.

Difficulties of functional tuning

Often, functional tuning is limited only to replacing older or out-of-order car devices with newer and more modern ones. However, do not forget that the installation of additional control elements of the car such as an immobilizer should also be attributed to functional tuning, on-board computer or built-in additional devices. The main problem with such a revision is not so much the choice of components as their competent installation. Most often, novice tuning enthusiasts who want to carry out such an installation at home will have to face such a problem as difficulties in calibrating devices. Imagine that the speedometer will show inadequate vehicle speed or the fuel gauge will deceive you at the most inopportune moment.

Separately, it must be said about such a point as the legality of improvements. That is, if the design of the car provides for a speedometer or tachometer of the exact model that is installed at the factory, it will be quite difficult to explain its replacement during maintenance. Therefore, it is better to carry out aesthetic tuning of devices that have already been installed on the car, and place additional ones either on top of the dashboard, or in those places that are still free.
Aesthetic question

When carrying out aesthetic tuning, you need to carefully plan everything, because you will need no less skills than when carrying out a functional improvement of the dashboard, and besides it, you also need an excellent sense of taste. If you yourself know what you want, it remains only to prepare the necessary materials and elements, and we will talk about this a little later, but if you do not have a clear plan, then you should develop it in advance.

First of all, look for inspiration on car forums or ask for advice from friends of motorists who have tuned their cars. Naturally, each person has exclusively their own taste, but someone's ready-made modifications may well push you to an interesting solution, which you can subsequently implement.
In addition, knowing what you want to achieve with your car, you can easily select the necessary materials and apply certain solutions related to the manufacture of elements necessary for tuning.

Where to start tuning

No matter how you plan to improve the dashboard of the car, first of all, prepare necessary tools:

Dashboard Disassembly Tools
Industrial dryer
Stationery knife or sharp blade
Required wiring and controls
Soldering iron and solder

The rest of the necessary tools and materials will differ from each other depending on what you are going to do with the dashboard. Also, you may need specific tools if you need to use non-standard techniques and non-standard tools to disassemble the panel. Find out in advance what tools are needed to remove the car trim and unscrew those elements that need to be replaced or modified.

We disassemble the dashboard

Experts recommend carrying out any work in a dry, dust-free environment. This is enough important point on which depends overall success our idea. Firstly, dust can prevent us from evenly sticking various colored films to change the color of the instrument illumination on the panel, and high humidity will simply ruin the wiring.
You should carefully remove the trim on the dashboard of your car in order to gain access to those controls or monitoring the condition of the car on which you want to work. In the event that you are going to change the scale on the devices, we advise you to very carefully remove the arrows. A simple marker is ideal for this, which marks the junction of the arrow using a dash or dots. In the event that the arrow is soldered, you can use a soldering iron and heat up the tin, which holds the arrow on the coil. However, do not forget that the arrow will still need to be installed back, and in order to do this correctly, you need to mark the connection points, because otherwise the calibration can only be carried out in a car service.

How to improve your dashboard

When you have disassembled the dashboard to the point that you can work with it, it is worth stopping and thinking again about what you plan to do. You also need to check if your modifications will damage the car and if everything is in order, then you can continue.
After that, with your dashboard, you can do almost anything you want, but from the abundance of various possibilities, you often start to get lost, so let's look at a few tuning options.

Changing the instrument scale

First of all, you can replace the scale on the devices. To do this, you can either paint over the old scale and apply a drawing on it by hand or using a stencil, or stick a special film with a printed pattern over the scale. Most often, it is this option that gives the most beautiful and high-quality result.

In order to make such a film, it is enough, even in the simplest graphic editor, to draw a model of what markup you want to see on a particular device and print it on a special film, for which you can contact the printing house. In the same case, if you want to change the color of the arrow or individual elements on the scale of the device, you can even carefully paint over the desired areas with paint. Some motorists who want to achieve interesting glow effects use fluorescent paint for this, which glows perfectly when even a small LED is connected to the backlight.

Replacing the instrument lighting

Since we are talking about adding LEDs to the lighting of certain devices, it is worth mentioning that LED instrument lighting is a very popular tuning.
However, despite its popularity, with the addition or complete replacement of LED backlighting, you should be very careful. Firstly, you will have to face a rather difficult process of removing the factory wiring and factory backlight lamps, and secondly, you can go too far with the number of LEDs. To prevent this from happening, we advise you to limit yourself to 1-2 LEDs per device, which will be quite enough for a bright backlight that will be clearly visible at dusk, but it will not hit your eyes at night either.

In the event that the device has a glow from the inside, and the scale of the device itself is transparent, you can add a little more LEDs, but they should be placed in such a way that their direct light does not enter the eyes of the driver or passengers.

An interesting way to replace the backlight with a Skoda Octavia:

To install such a backlight, it is worth using the car's native wiring, since it is initially connected to the controls and you do not have to puzzle over how to power the backlight or where to place the button to turn it on.

Adjusting the brightness of the backlight

Most often, to adjust the brightness of the backlight located behind the device, you need to assemble it, but if something does not suit the brightness, the device will need to be disassembled and adjusted again. In order not to waste time on such actions, we advise you to connect the backlight through a variable rheostat, which can be used to control the intensity of the glow by simply twisting it. Naturally, the adjustment is best done 3 times - during the day, at dusk and at night, in order to understand whether it is convenient to look at the devices.

Complex tuning

Quite often, motorists who improve their dashboard with their own hands, modify several instruments at once or the general illumination of the dashboard so that it looks more stylish. In this case, it is better to prepare in advance the same templates for the instrument scales and the same color backlight LEDs. In the same case, if you do not have access to the LEDs of the desired color, you can get by with ordinary white LEDs and just stick a translucent film of the desired color on the right places. Such a film will be a regular light filter, and you will achieve the same effect as using LEDs of different colors.

Tuning techniques

To successfully complete any modification to a car or its dashboard, you need to master a few simple tricks that will allow you to perform the desired actions. We have already talked about how to properly glue the tint film, and it is precisely these techniques that are used when gluing translucent films on reverse side the display of the device with slots so that the divisions and numbers shine with the necessary light. Another equally interesting technique is the use of fluorescent paints to paint over the arrow or divisions of the instrument scale. To evenly apply such paint, it is enough to use either a simple template, on top of which you can safely paint, or just gently apply it with a thin brush.
Also, do not forget about the need to correctly calibrate the arrow after removing it, because an incorrectly calibrated device is very serious problem, which can only be solved at the service center.

Instrument installation and dashboard assembly

When you are sure that you have done what you wanted and are completely satisfied with the result, it is time to reinstall the removed instruments, connect them and assemble the dashboard. Do not forget to check if the devices are powered and if everything is in order with the casing fixings. If you do everything calmly and do not rush, then such tuning of the dashboard will not only be no worse than the one for which you would have to pay a large enough amount in the studio, but even better, because you will make such tuning with your own hands and in you can change or redo something at any time.
