What is more reliable than polo or solaris. Kia Rio, Volkswagen Polo or Hyundai Solaris: choose a budget car. Which car to give preference to

Doubts of potential buyers that it is better - Volkswagen Polo or Hyundai Solaris, are quite understandable and understandable. Both cars belong to the class of budget options, that is, they are available to quite a few, both are convincingly announced on the market and are highly advertised. The manufacturers of both models have won the respect of Russians for a long time.

The difference in price, of course, is observed, but it is not so significant that it is absolutely impossible to pay extra for the option you like.

At first glance, Volkswagen should be the leader in the rivalry: the adjective "German" has long become synonymous with the definition of "quality". But statistics show a completely different picture: Russians have recently been actively voting for Hyundai (which is also distinguished by the recognized quality of its popular models). It was this company that took first place among foreign cars in 2011 in terms of sales.

The Germans turned out to be already the fifth, and by the number of purchased cars they were twice behind the Koreans. Those who are in the know about car news, involuntarily begin to wonder where Hyundai outweighs Volkswagen. Even supporters of this German brand are beginning to think about whether to go over to the Koreans, since so many people preferred their products.

Which is better: Volkswagen Polo or Hyundai Solaris, many meticulously compared, and experts managed to come to certain conclusions.

Exterior and interior design

In general, in appearance, neither the Germans nor the Koreans began to invent something radically new for their models. The Polo sedan is based on the namesake hatchback, however, with a completely different angle of inclination of the struts. Solaris is a rehash of the Hyundai Accent model, however, prettier than its ancestor, with lighting equipment and other forms of bumpers.
  • Outwardly, Hyundai Solaris has a dynamic, impetuous and quite modern look. Volkswagen remains true to tradition: their Polos are conservative, even somewhat heavy in appearance. Many may find the model dull and boring;
  • The rivals' salons are of high quality and well decorated. But German pedantry manifested itself here too: the design is strict and no frills. Solaris is more elegant and lightweight from the inside;
  • The plastic of the inner lining of the Polo was recognized as not very successful: the carmaker, in an effort to reduce the cost of the model, saved money at the expense of quality (although you will not find Chinese brittle plastic here). But in Solaris, many are annoyed by the too sharp blue illumination of devices - it has become a classic feature of the latest Korean models;
  • The steering wheel in the brainchild of the Volkswagen concern is adjustable in two planes. The competitor has only the slope.
    The front seats were considered by most of the testers to be more comfortable for Hyundai: they have better lateral support, which is highly appreciated by the driver's back on the road;
  • The back will be more comfortable in the Volkswagen Polo. A low overhead slope in Korean will make tall passengers tuck their heads into their shoulders. Although in terms of legroom, both models are approximately equal;
  • The trunk of the German sedan is slightly smaller, but it has a more spacious opening through which it will be more convenient to load.

Filling and movement

The engine of Hyundai Solaris is, without a doubt, more powerful than that of its rival. 123 horses give quite decent dynamics, and among the budget sedans this Korean can be called the fastest and most powerful. To put it mildly, the not new Volkswagen Polo engine produces only 105 hp, although it is enough for it to move: no strain or gasp of the engine was noticed when driving. Although, of course, you can not name a particularly dynamic model.

By the way, we note that Volkswagen does not offer a choice for the engine compartment: only a 1.6-liter one, 16 valves with the aforementioned 105 draft units. True, the box can be chosen either mechanical or automatic. Hyundai equips its Solaris in 2 versions: 1.4 liters with 107 horses or 1.6 with 123.

With suspension In Solaris, the Koreans were unlucky: no matter how they adjusted it (and even changed it), the shaking at speed on an unimportant road is felt by passengers quite well. And the driver is forced to steer. The steering in the Korean is also not a fountain: the steering wheel is too light, and the car periodically tries to get out of the trajectory on a bad road (and we have not enough others). Volkswagen Polo is much more reliable in both respects.

The steering wheel is elastic, but without resistance, informative and obedient. The suspension hides swallowed irregularities in the road surface almost imperceptibly for riders. Although they will feel them by ear: the Germans saved on soundproofing, as well as on trim. And the last fact that can strongly influence the decision of which is better than Volkswagen Polo or Hyundai Solaris: Koreans give a 5-year warranty on their model, albeit not complete, but somewhat truncated. Thrifty Germans have become generous only for 3 years.

Many are tormented by the question of which is better: Volkswagen Polo or Hyundai Solaris. And this is not surprising, since both of these vehicles are bestsellers in their class. So let's try to compare them.

The comparison will be attended by Polo Sedan and Solaris 2017 model year. And if the latter, as is already clear, is completely updated, then the first has remained almost unchanged since 2010. Yes, in 2015, a slight facelift was made: LED running lights were added to the head optics, the taillights also became LED, the bumpers and radiator grille were changed (a little), some electronic driver assistants were added. But all the same, the appearance of the car, although it has become a little more stylish, has not changed.

Body

Dimensions (edit)

Let's start with the dimensions. It’s interesting to know what has changed in the Korean car.

So, the length of the Hyundai Solaris 2017 increased by 3 cm and amounted to 4.405 m, the width increased by 2.9 cm and amounted to 1.729 m, the height remained unchanged at 1.470 m.The wheelbase also increased by 3 cm, now it is 2.6 m (it looks like the length of the car has increased due to the increase in the base). The clearance is stated at a maximum of 16 cm.

The 2017 Volkswagen Polo (post-styled version) has the following dimensions: length 4.39 m, width 1.699 m, height 1.467 m. Wheelbase length 2.553 m, ground clearance 16.3 cm (data from official sources).

As you can see, the new generation of Solaris has become longer than the Polo, and due to the required size - the wheelbase of the Korean car is now more than the base of the German sedan by half a centimeter. Not much, but earlier this parameter was generally less. And now, not only has he not caught up, but has become a little larger. In general, in this regard, the "Korean" is no longer inferior to the "German".

The width of the Solaris is 3 cm more than the width of the Polo. If the designers have used this advantage wisely, then, in theory, we should get a wider cabin. We will see further whether this is so.

The height of the cars and the ground clearance are almost the same, so there is no point in paying close attention to them.

Appearance

Now about the appearance. On this point, you can already give a point to the winner. I agree that the perception of the appearance of a car is a purely personal matter, but because I make a comparison, and then the assessment, I think, I have the right to expose. And it's up to you to agree with her or not.

I remember that in 2011, when Solaris had just started to appear on our roads, its appearance caused a lot of positive responses. I am among those who liked it. Now, looking at the new generation of the Korean public sector employee, I have a double feeling: on the one hand, the continuity of the rapid lines is visible, on the other hand, the new radiator grille causes some irritation, disharmonizing, in my opinion, with the rest of the elements of the front of the car.

The polo, after restyling in 2015, received a more taut "face", and at the moment I like it even more than the front end of the "Korean".

Of course, in addition to the front of the car, there is also the rear, and the sidewalls of the body are present, as it were ... All this is in its place, and I don't want to find fault with them - the cars look good from these angles, but spoils the whole "face".

I share the view that the overall assessment of an object should be based on an assessment of weaknesses. Therefore, the Volkswagen Polo gets a point for its appearance - for a more balanced exterior, albeit old, but slightly updated.

Interior

Design

A lot of words have already been said about the too simple interior design of Polo in previous reviews (links to which you can find at the end of the article). Therefore, I think there is no point in repeating yourself. “Too simple,” and that says it all.

Solaris, both in the previous version and in the new one, pleases with the boldness of its lines. Moreover, if earlier it was possible to find fault with "Asianism" in design, now the interior is more strict and solid.

Apparently, the Koreans realized that the European buyer can be obtained by creating cars that meet the expectations of the Western audience more than the Eastern one.

China, as far as we know, being the largest car market at present, gives preference to European and American car manufacturers. Therefore, by creating cars in European style, carmakers will definitely not be at a loss. That is why it is worth targeting the European market with all the ensuing aspects.

In general, Hyundai Solaris gets a point. The score is 1-1.

Quality of materials

If in the previous generation Hyundai Solaris, as well as the Volkswagen Polo, did not differ in the quality of the materials used in the interior trim, now Solaris 2018 can boast of the quality of materials that is almost standard for the B-class. In the Volkswagen Polo Sedan, the quality of materials also improved after 2015, but still, according to reviews, it is objectively lower than in the interior of a Korean classmate.

In the "Korean", both the panel and the fabric inserts in the door are softer than in a German car. One gets the impression that the salon has been rearranged from a car of a higher class. Plus again at Hyundai. The score is 1-2.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is an area in which it is difficult for competitors to beat the Germans. Apparently, VAG members are aware of this, therefore they do not make any design changes to their model. Done right once, now the ergonomics of the Volkswagen Polo's cabin are the benchmark in the class. You can not even doubt which car is the best in this regard. The German state employee has been "keeping the mark" since 2010.

For example, landing. The Polo has more anatomical seats. All because of the developed lumbar support. On long trips there will be less back fatigue. In addition, the length of the seats is longer here. Consequently, less of the legs are hanging in the air. This also affects fatigue, especially for a driver whose legs are in tension.

Both the new Solaris and its previous generation are inferior in this parameter. I give the point to the "German". The score was equal, 2-2.

When asked which is more, they usually answer by comparing the space on the back sofa, because in the front, the automaker traditionally tries to squeeze everything out of the available volume to the maximum, giving the front riders more attention than the rear ones. So, in the back there is more knee room for passengers in the Polo.

By the way, there is more space above your head. Therefore, rear passengers will definitely be more comfortable in a German sedan. Plus him, the score is 3-2.

However, the driver's visibility is better in the "Korean". The reason for this is a more sporty fit and a larger windshield area.

In a German car, the landing is more vertical, as a result of which the eyes of tall people are slightly below the edge of the ceiling and, therefore, the vertical viewing angle is much smaller - the ceiling makes it difficult to look up. Of course, many do not need this, because all attention to the road, but personally it will annoy me - I do not like it when something looms before my eyes. A point in favor of Solaris. The score is 3-3.

But in Polo 2017, sound insulation is better. Previously, the "Shumka" was better in Solaris, but now there is a constant hum in the cabin. Not strong, but intrusive. According to this parameter, the German state employee is now definitely better. The score is 4-3 in his favor.

In Hyundai Solaris, until 2016, the steering wheel was adjusted only by the tilt angle, while the "German" could boast of both the angle and the reach. The new Solaris 2017 is now not lagging behind, the "misunderstanding" has been fixed. It's a draw here.

Trunk

The trunk in the Volkswagen Polo is smaller. Its volume is 460 liters, while the trunk volume of the Hyundai Solaris 2017 is 480 liters. True, there is a small problem that negates the volume advantage. This is a rather low rear shelf and a narrower height opening. Therefore, only narrow things can be crammed.

In this respect, Polo wins - things that are larger will be included here. This means that the advantage in the volume of the trunk of a Korean car is, in fact, only on paper. In reality, the opposite is true. A point in favor of the "German". The score is 5-3.

Both cars use full size spare wheels, which is a good thing. It's a draw here.

Specifications

Since 2016, the Polo has received a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged engine. with a capacity of 125 hp. at 5000-6000 rpm and a torque of 200 Nm on a wide shelf at 1400-4000 rpm. This engine is currently only available for Highline and GT trim levels.

In addition to the new TSI, the good old 1.6-liter MPI with 90 and 110 hp are also available for the Polo 2018. at 4250-6000 rpm and 5800 rpm, respectively, with a maximum torque of 155 Nm at 3800-4000 rpm.

Two engines are available for the second generation Hyundai Solaris: the new Kappa 1.4 MPI with almost 100 hp. at 6,000 rpm and 132 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, as well as the old Gamma 1.6 MPI with 123 hp. at 6300 rpm and a torque of 151 Nm at 4850 rpm.

But Solaris, as it was, and remains truly "popular" - it is recommended to fill it with gasoline with an octane rating of 92. The score goes to Koreans. The score is 5-4.

What is safer

This is where the controversy continues. People of the old school traditionally prefer German cars, and more practical people are looking for options. Let's remember how they used to say about Solaris when it first appeared. Most of the "experts" were of the opinion that their engines were running at least 100-150 thousand, after which it would be possible to say goodbye to them. However, now there are such copies that have already left for four hundred thousand, and nothing, they are in good health so far. Therefore, it is impossible to say which car is better in terms of reliability. Everyone will praise their choice. The only option to at least somehow note for yourself the degree of reliability of each is to see what kind of guarantee the official dealers give. So, Volkswagen gives 3 years or 100 thousand kilometers, and Hyundai 5 years and 150 thousand kilometers. So think about which is more reliable.

Who quickly

According to official data, the Volkswagen Polo Sedan acceleration to 100 km / h is as follows:

  • 1.6 MPI 90 HP - 11.2 sec (manual transmission),
  • 1.6 MPI 110 HP - 10.4 seconds (manual transmission) and 11.7 seconds (automatic transmission),
  • 1.4 TSI 125 HP - 9.0 seconds (manual transmission and automatic transmission).

Hyundai Solaris accelerates to "hundreds" like this:

  • 1.4 Kappa MPI 100 HP - 12.2 seconds (manual transmission) and 12.9 seconds (automatic transmission),
  • 1.6 Gamma MPI 123 HP - 10.3 seconds (manual transmission) and 11.2 seconds (automatic transmission).

On paper, faster than the Volkswagen Polo. And here's how things really are:

Maintainability of engines

Are the Polo and Solaris engines repairable? This question is often asked by those who buy cars on the secondary market. The first owners, as a rule, do not worry about this, because they usually manage to part with their purchase even before the engine runs out of service.

The maintainability question is simple to answer. All modern engines have aluminum cylinder blocks. Consequently, this creates specific difficulties in the case of a major overhaul - aluminum cylinders are practically not boring. In general, it can be done, but it is difficult and, accordingly, expensive. Anyone interested in this topic - dig deeper on the Internet, it says a lot on this topic.

Driving performance

The previous Hyundai Solaris was clearly underdeveloped in terms of the suspension: large rolls in corners, swinging of the rear end at high speeds and, as a result, a decrease in traction, leading to dangerous and tragic situations. The new Solaris received a completely redesigned chassis. Now the handling of the car has become almost a reference for its class.

The suspension of the Volkswagen Polo was initially tuned much better, and now it is very good: a clear steering wheel, very well "swallows" small irregularities. However, as those comparing the cars note, its suspension is significantly stiffer. Not everyone will like it.

The Korean car initially had a softer suspension, and it was more comfortable to drive. The new generation has retained this comfort, the engineers were able to combine excellent handling and softness.

At the same time, the Polo's suspension is very energy-intensive - crossing the same speed bumps at a speed of 30-40 km / h occurs without triggering the bump stop. A comparative test carried out at different speeds showed that the new Solaris is no worse, and maybe even better - the bump stop did not work even once.

Summarizing

It so happened that a comparison of technical characteristics and driving performance did not allow us to determine which car is better - they are too similar on the one hand, and on the other, they seem to be different. In general, I consider the question of the advantage of one over the other according to these parameters to be controversial, I cannot give preference to any of them. You can, of course, delve deeper into the research, but this is beyond the scope of this article. Therefore, we will be content with the account that we managed to form earlier.

So, the score is 5-4 in favor of the Volkswagen Polo Sedan. The new Hyundai Solaris is a little behind, so I think we should summarize the results and draw some conclusions:

  1. If you need a car with a conservative appearance, then you should choose the Polo.
  2. If the quality of finishing and interior design is in the first place, then it is definitely better to buy Solaris.
  3. If you want a drive, then again Solaris.
  4. If you need a bigger trunk, then you should probably take the Polo.
  5. If you want a bigger salon - then again Polo.
  6. If you don't like rigid suspensions, then choose Solaris.

That's, in fact, in short, that's all. Weigh the pros and cons. To make the final choice, be sure to sign up for a test drive - that's when you can understand what is best for you: Polo or Solaris.

Reading 5 min.

Cars have long ceased to be luxury goods. Now it is impossible to imagine a single day without them. Safety and comfort are becoming the main requirements for the future car. Even better - if the operation is not particularly difficult. Otherwise, the family budget will suffer.

Those who love and appreciate sedans nowadays have a choice. In particular, between Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai Solaris. It is necessary to consider each model in more detail in order to understand which is better.

A sedan for everyone - Volkswagen Polo

It is rightfully considered a people's car. This is primarily due to the name. Domestic buyers are used to thinking that there is nothing better than equipment from manufacturers from Germany. That's why they trust them so willingly. In addition, the Volkswagen Polo is a budget sedan, which in our time also plays a rather important role.

And the technical characteristics of the Volkswagen Polo are in no way inferior to their competitors:

Affordable quality level - Hyundai Solaris

The appearance already speaks of the balance of the Hyundai Solaris. It looks ribbed and curvy. I would like to think that there is some kind of catch. But this is just a guess that does not correspond to reality.

Hyundai Solaris also belongs to the group of budget cars, but in appearance it is almost imperceptible. Glossy and plastic parts are abundant inside the cabin. three passengers will also fit, but they will already be cramped. Hyundai Solaris is equipped with a spacious trunk of 454 liters. The gears in the manual transmission change smoothly.

The wheel formula and the engine layout are completely the same for the models. This means that the dynamic properties of Polo and Solaris will be practically the same, there is nothing to compare.

The clearance deserves special attention. The German has 1700 mm, and Solaris - 1600. The difference is not significant, but for Russian roads it already matters. In the post-warranty period, it is the repair of the body part that may require the most serious investments, therefore this indicator often becomes the main one when choosing a vehicle.

Scheduled maintenance is recommended to be carried out every 15 thousand kilometers. The first and third TO for Solaris and its competitor cost about the same - 8 and a half thousand rubles. But the second is much more complicated. It is enough to give a simple comparison - a German can demand up to 20 thousand rubles. The second is 10-15 percent cheaper in this regard.

The reason is that the parts themselves cost differently. Indeed, during the second visit to the workshop, you may need spark plugs, all filters and oil.

A little more about the features of cars

The transmission is the part where the most differences arise between the two machines. Polo is supplied only with a 6-speed automatic or 5-speed mechanics. The sedan from Hyundai offers 4 or 5 steps and a manual transmission with 5 or 6 gears.

These are legendary cars and each of them has its own fans, disadvantages and advantages. Every year these models become more and more interesting for future buyers. The Korean is only slightly inferior to the German in driving characteristics, behavior on the road. Only on bends can you feel small rolls.

The Korean also lacks perfectly clear feedback on the steering wheel. But there is a universal suspension, which is not afraid of even large pits, other serious obstacles on the way. But the chassis cannot boast of such versatility.

Six or seven years ago, competition in the class of budget sedans was rather arbitrary. Few manufacturers offered technically modest and most often absolutely unattractive sedans. Among them, buyers had to choose the car that best met their requirements. However, the situation gradually changed. Almost all manufacturers have affordable sedans in the model range. And buyers, seeing this state of affairs, have become much more finicky.

Now one attractive price is not enough for successful sales. Car enthusiasts take into account everything - maintenance cost, performance, reliability, driving performance and design. However, the leaders in the class of budget sedans have been defined for a long time. They are rightfully the Hyundai Solaris and Volkswagen Polo.

Interior and exterior

The Korean sedan has been updated this year. The Solaris design changes are not global, but they have clearly made the Korean sedan look more harmonious. The designers changed the shape of the radiator grille, corrected the shape of the front optics. As a result, the front Hyundai Solaris began to look much more solid. Buyers love it. But the Hyundai designers did not touch the rear part. She already suited everyone.

Korean Hyundai Solaris

Following Hyundai Solaris, the Volkswagen Polo has also been updated. But even in the case of a German car, it is quite difficult to notice new design elements. The grille in the refreshed Polo now features three chrome stripes. The front bumper has also changed slightly. In addition, daytime running lights appeared on all versions of the German car after restyling. And the more expensive Polo versions are now equipped with fog lights with cornering lights. As a result, the available Polo at the front began to resemble the more expensive Jetta model. Although behind the budget German sedan it will not be possible to confuse it with some other car. The classic taillights were not touched during the modernization.

German Volkswagen Polo

Finding changes inside the Volkswagen Polo is even more difficult. Aside from the new steering wheel, which is truncated at the bottom of the real supercars, there is none at all. Only for the top version of the Highline can now be ordered a pretty two-tone black and beige interior trim. A little later, presumably at the end of the year, Polo will be offered a new multimedia system with a five-inch touchscreen display.

Volkswagen Polo interior

The situation is similar with Hyundai Solaris. The Koreans have made only minor cosmetic changes. The most notable of these is the new dark background for the center console display. In pre-styling cars, it was too bright and tired on a long journey. This issue has now been resolved. The most attentive motorists will also notice the redrawn symbols in the instrument cluster. Otherwise, the inside of the Korean car remains the same - cozy, stylish enough and comfortable for the driver. In terms of the quality of the materials used, both cars are also approximately on the same level. You can't find expensive soft plastic in them. And this is quite expected. But the build quality and fit of parts pleases. Manufacturers do not make any discounts on the budget of these models.

Hyundai Solaris hatchback interior

Tall passengers in Solaris and Polo will be cramped. Of course, they will withstand an hour or two, but on a long trip it will no longer be entirely comfortable. But for those passengers whose height does not exceed average, both cars will fit perfectly. There will be room in the knees and over the head, even with a small margin.

And of course Solaris and Polo pleasantly surprise you with their large trunks. In the German sedan, 460 liters are allocated for suitcases, packages and bags. In Hyundai Solaris with a sedan body, the trunk is even slightly larger - exactly 465 liters. In a Korean car with a hatchback body (this body type is not offered for the Volkswagen Polo), the luggage compartment volume is noticeably less, namely 370 liters. But the smaller volume is compensated by the widest possibilities for the transportation of bulky items.

Hyundai Solaris trunk

Specifications Hyundai Solaris and Volkswagen Polo

But a direct comparison in technical terms will not work. And all because the base engine for the Volkswagen Polo is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Its output is a modest 85 "horses" and it works only with a manual gearbox. However, even these few "horses" drive the compact sedan quite actively - only 11.9 seconds from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour. And the top speed of 179 km / h looks very decent.

Most car enthusiasts, however, prefer to pay a little extra and choose Polo with the same engine, but in a more powerful 105-horsepower version. This version of the German sedan, moreover, can be equipped not only with "mechanics", but also with an automatic transmission. The dynamics of the Volkswagen Polo with a 1.6-liter 105 horsepower engine is good. The first hundred kilometers per hour Polo with "mechanics" is gaining in just 10.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is also good news. In urban conditions, the Polo will require 8.7 l / 100 km. Outside the city, the appetite is even less - only 5.1 l / 100 km.

This is where the choice of engines for the Volkswagen Polo ends. Only in May 2016, under the hood of the German car, a turbocharged 1.4 TSI petrol with a capacity of 125 horsepower should appear, which has been installed on the related Skoda Rapid model for quite some time. The current 1600 cc engine, by the way, will also retire soon. Already in December of this year, it will be replaced with a new power unit of the same volume, which will not only comply with Euro-5 environmental standards, but will also be slightly more powerful than its predecessor. In various boost options, it will develop 90 and 110 horsepower.

For a Korean car, it all starts with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine that develops 107 horsepower. And if "Volkswagen" combines their base engine only with "mechanics", then the Solaris engine can work in tandem with an automatic gearbox. With it, the Korean car gains the first hundred kilometers per hour in 13.4 seconds and consumes 8.5 liters of fuel in the city for every hundred kilometers. Hyundai Solaris with the same 107 horsepower engine and a manual gearbox is expected to be more dynamic and economical - 11.5 seconds of acceleration to one hundred kilometers per hour and 7.6 l / 100 km when driving in an urban cycle.

The second engine, offered for the Korean car, with a volume of 1.6 liters, develops 123 horsepower. Before the update, it was combined with an archaic four-speed "automatic" and a five-speed manual gearbox. However, during the upgrade, the Koreans added one additional stage to the "mechanics", and the automatic gearbox after the upgrade became a six-speed one. As a result, the updated Hyundai Solaris with a 1.6-liter engine has become more dynamic and more economical. In numbers, it looks like this. To accelerate to one hundred kilometers per hour, a car with a manual gearbox takes 10.3 seconds, and the version with an “automatic” does the same exercise for almost a second longer. In terms of fuel consumption, the situation is as follows - Solaris with an automatic gearbox in the city will require 8.8 liters of fuel for every hundred kilometers, and the same car with "mechanics" will consume only 8.1 liters of fuel.

So which car is the best of this pair? So far, the advantage is on the side of Hyundai Solaris. It is he who has been holding the leadership in his class in terms of sales for many years. And this is quite natural. The Korean car not only boasts a stylish, spectacular design, but also offers customers powerful engines and a good level of equipment. The Volkswagen Polo looks more modest against the background of Hyundai in technical terms. Engines installed on a German car are weaker. At the same time, Volkswagen Polo with the same level of equipment is more expensive. And the price, as you know, in the class of budget sedans is often a decisive factor when choosing a car. On the other hand, for many car enthusiasts, it is the Volkswagen Polo that is the Das Auto for which it is not a pity to overpay a little. So whatever one may say, the rivals of Hyundai Solaris and Volkswagen Polo are worthy.

Watch an interesting video on this topic

These 2 cars have won the trust of our citizens - this is confirmed by the large sales of these cars. I propose to sort it out with you at the expense of these cars.

They say about the exterior of these cars, the Polo has strict and solid features, fine details of finishing, but still boring.

Since the German concern saves on literally everything, in principle, just like the Korean manufacturer, inexpensive products were used in both cars. The driver's seat at Polo is equipped with wide adjustment, while the steering wheel is adjustable in 2 positions.

Exterior Solaris looks more youthful, suitable for drivers from 30 to 40 years old. The Korean driver's seat is more comfortable, with excellent lateral support, in such a seat a person does not move out on sharp turns.

Experienced drivers say that at first it is hard to feel the size of these cars - it takes a habit. This point concerns the problem that neither the front nor the rear of the car is visible, but the mirrors on the cars are excellent.

Car interior

What about the ergonomics of these vehicles? These copies have all the devices where they should be, everything is at hand. There are people who believe that the Solaris has a more entertaining interior, and the coordination of the optics is on the left, while on the Polo it is located separately. There is more space in the front seats in Solaris, in the Polo there is more space in the rear seats. In Solaris, a tall man is leaning against the roof.

Comparison of the interior of both cars, we draw conclusions about the good taste of German manufacturers. But the design looks better on Solaris. In Polo, the upholstery and plastic parts look a little worse. In Solaris, we pay more attention to the driver's seat, which supports him during sudden movements.

The start of sales of these cars in Russia

Volkswagen Polo began to be sold in our country in the spring of this year. In our territory, this sedan is the most affordable car. Sales of the new Solaris began in the middle of this summer.

Equipment

According to many drivers, the Korean car does not have a well-tuned suspension, as well as steering wheel adjustment. It is difficult to control a car at high speed. Manufacturing professionals will not achieve the balance of coordination of the car, since the rear springs and shock absorber struts have been replaced.

As for the Polo, its balancing is much better, this manifestation is assessed in the good steering sensitivity and the suspension perfectly reflecting on various potholes. We conclude that in this nuance Polo will be the most suitable.

The engine presented in our Polo has only one 1.6 liter unit. power of 105 horsepower, fuel gasoline. Solaris has 2 motors: the first - 1.4 litas. 107 horsepower, second - 1.6 lit. 123 horsepower According to drivers, even an old engine is a 4-speed automatic machine. more comfortable and dynamic than a "six" machine gun in a German car. The Solaris consumes much less fuel compared to the Polo, which is considered a good plus.

Let's compare these cars in basic configurations with manual transmission, 1.6 litas for both competitors, but with other power units: the Korean has 123 horsepower, the Polo has only 105 horsepower.

The price of these cars

Of all the budgetary variations, the Optima package with a standard stereo system is suitable for Solaris. In this version, there is nothing superfluous, and yet it has the necessary functions, its cost is estimated at 486,000 rubles.

The Volkswagen Polo does not have a choice of engines, only one described above. There is, of course, in the Comfortline version an added stereo system and manual transmission, it will cost 524,000 rubles.

Solaris and Polo engine

The Solaris engine is more powerful than the Polo, 123 "horses" give a decent dynamism to the car - it is considered both the fastest and one of the most powerful motors. Simply put, not a new Polo engine gives only 105 horsepower, but this is enough for driving. It rides without strain and gasping of the engine, but this model cannot be called dynamically.

And it should be noted that under the hood of the Polo there is only 1.6 litas. motor, 16-valve and already said 105 horsepower. But the checkpoint is equipped with both "automatic" and "mechanics". Hyundai uses 2 engines - 1.4 litas. 107 horsepower and 1.6 lit. 123 horsepower

Trunk of cars

The luggage compartment of the Volkswagen Polo is quite roomy and amounts to 420 litas. The luggage compartment of Solaris is 455 litas, which is considered quite decent.

Final conclusion

In principle, Volkswagen is obliged to sell slightly better than its rival, but Solaris wins because it has more choice in the engine range. And the fact that Solaris consumes less gasoline occupies a leading position in sales. Another advantage of Solaris is that it has a 5-year warranty, while Polo only has a 3-year one.
