How does Candy differ from Tiguan. VW Tiguan second generation: more stylish and bright. How the new Tiguan rides

In 2017, two new items from the VAG concern enter the Russian market at once - the title brand Tiguan, which survived the first generational change, and the completely new Skoda Kodiaq. The cars are built on the same modular MQB platform, which suggests they should look like twin brothers. Is it so? Let's try to figure it out and compare the Kodiak and the new Tiguan in all respects.

Volkswagen Tiguan (new) and Skoda Kodiak

Exterior and dimensions of Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan

It would seem that the competing machines of the same concern, built on the same platform, should differ from each other only with the brand logo. But in the case of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiak, this statement turns out to be completely wrong. The cars, although they are similar in their dimensions (with the exception of the length - it is 21 cm larger for the Kodiaq), the layout and the equipment used, each have their own character.

The new Tiguan is a true brainchild of the "people's" brand. He is restrained and calm, massive and brutal. The rectangular grille, almost rectangular headlights, straight lines of the body are a solid classic. Kodiak will appeal to fans of more modern and interesting, but at the same time not extreme design - a little less straight lines and a little more dynamism, and the "Czech" looks much fresher than its German counterpart. Could it be the age of the brand chief designers? Josef Kaban is a little over 40, and Walter da Silva, who at the end of last year left the post of chief designer of VW, at that time was already deeply over 60. And Michael Mauer, who replaced him, is 10 years older than the Slovak designer Skoda.

There are more options - 14 (10 in the metallic version) versus 9 in the Tiguan.

The height and width of the Kodiak and Tiguan are almost identical to each other. "Nemets" wins over its competitor in a very important parameter - the size of the ground clearance. In the 4Motion all-wheel drive version, it exceeds 200 mm! An outstanding figure for the SUV. Skoda has a ground clearance of only 188 mm.

But Kodiaq leaves its opponent far behind in terms of trunk size. No matter how much Volkswagen tries to push Czech cars into the background in comparison with analogues of the title brand, Skoda is not inferior to anyone in terms of capacity. The minimum trunk volume of the Kodiak is 105 liters more than that of the Tiguan, and the maximum (with the second row seats folded) is even 410! We are talking, of course, about the 5-seater version of the "Czech".

Interior Skoda Kodiak and Volkswagen Tiguan

A richer and more variable interior, Volkswagen, of course, provides its title brand for the crossover. Take, for example, the finishes - Kodiak has only two of them with a classic set of colors - black, brown and beige. And buyers of Tiguan can choose from several options - here and fabric, and leather, and suede (artificial). And more colors, including a bright orange.

Both vehicles are equipped with various “smart solutions”. Here you will find folding tables on the backs of the seats, and various drawer hooks, and dividing grilles, and nets for the trunk ... Skoda, as usual, has many branded "chips" like umbrellas in the doors or an LED flashlight that serves as a trunk illumination.

With regard to electronics and various comfort systems, then both crossovers have everything you need - from climate control to interactive infotainment complexes App Connect and with the ability to connect smartphones. Moreover, many systems are already in the basic versions of the car - apparently, VAG decided that it was necessary to wean motorists from buying "empty" cars.

But do not think that Kodiaq either loses to the Tiguan in terms of interior equipment, or turns out to be the same as its German competitor. In fact, the "Czech" has one important advantage - an optional third row of seats. No matter how anyone treats him, the fact remains - for Russia a 7-seater version of Tiguan, at least at the moment, is not provided, and this is a serious plus in favor of Kodiak.

Technical equipment Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan

The range of Volkswagen Tiguan engines is wider. Most of the power plants for cars are the same, but the "German" has a 2-liter gasoline unit with 220 "horses" and several diesels that are not installed on the Czech crossover: 2-liter with 115, 150 and 240 horsepower. In Russia, the new Tiguan is sold with petrol engines 1.4 TSI 125 and 150 horsepower and 2.0 TSI 180 and 220 horsepower, as well as with a diesel 2.0 TDI with a capacity of 150 horsepower.

As for the gearboxes, here Volkswagen did not become greedy and provided the Kodiak with the same gearboxes as the car of the title brand: 6-speed manual and DSG in two versions - 6- and wet 7-speed. And no matter how great the fears of Russian motorists before the Volkswagen "robot" are, it works, according to the assurances of experts, quite well. For example, here is how Mikhail Kononchuk speaks about him from Motor.ru, who tested the new Tiguan in Berlin in May 2016:

“DSG seems to have been replaced - it no longer dulls in normal mode and does not twitch in sports mode! The box works especially smoothly and logically in combination with a diesel engine - there are no questions at all to it. The relationship with the gasoline engine is a little less cloudless, but against the background of what happened before, it is idyllic and pastoral. "

Kodiak and Tiguan on ice - who wins?

Driving performance and fuel consumption of the Skoda Kodiak and Volkswagen Tiguan

The presence of more powerful engines in the engine range makes the Tiguan a leader in terms of speed qualities. A crossover with a 220-horsepower gasoline engine is capable of accelerating up to 220 kilometers per hour, and with a 240-horsepower diesel engine - up to 228 kilometers per hour. Kodiak has a maximum speed of 210 kilometers per hour.

In terms of acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour, the most powerful versions of the new Tiguan are slightly faster than the Kodiaq by a second.

As for the fuel consumption, it is comparable for cars.

Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan prices

A new Tiguan with gasoline engines in January 2017 costs in Russia from 1,459,000 to 2,139,000 rubles, with diesel engines - from 1,859,000 to 2,019,000 rubles (production in Kaluga). Skoda, on the other hand, established in the first year of sales, offering its customers Czech-built cars in premium configurations Ambition Plus and Style Plus and only with all-wheel drive and a DSG-7 robotic gearbox with "wet clutches". The company has already announced that in 2018 a localized assembly of Kodiaq in Russia will be established and the range of engines and trim levels will be expanded. They will definitely add a manual transmission and front-wheel drive. All this will reduce the base price of cars assembled in Russia to approximately 1,500,000 rubles in 2018.

VW Tiguan 2017 or Skoda Kodiaq? What did I choose (video)

Output

Those who choose to buy a Skoda Kodiak or Volkswagen Tiguan must first understand when they want to buy a car. Both "German" and "Czech" can be bought now. The only difference is that the production of Tiguan in Kaluga started at the end of November 2016 and the model is initially localized, and in 2017 Kodiaq "goes" to our country from a factory in the Czech Republic, where they collect "bears" for all European countries, and first sold in Russia in a more expensive Czech version with a limited range of good configurations. Therefore, now the price for VW Tiguan looks more attractive, in 2018 prices will be leveled. As for the characteristics of cars, they are quite comparable, except for the presence of more powerful engines in Volkswagen (2-liter TSI with 220 "horses" for Russia).

But it's good that the crisis! He puts everything in its place. Until 2014, it seemed that it would be easier to add 100-150 thousand rubles and buy another German car instead of Volkswagen - Mercedes. And now these are different heights in terms of financial costs. No 100 thousand rubles can solve anything. With 2 million rubles, you don't have to come to a Mercedes salon for a crossover. And in VW, for this money, there will be a choice of two: the old Tiguan and the new one. My friend admonishes before the test drive: compare the Tiguan with the Mercedes GLC: is there anything to overpay for 2 times? Take a look at the diesel engine, if you really buy a car for low-income people, then save on everything!

The first Tiguan always seemed to me frivolous, perky, undignified, not youthful, but for light and open people. Young at heart. Small, wedge-shaped, with a raised scanty bottom. New is a different matter. As if someone took the Audi Q5 and made it more beautiful and more practical. The horizontal grille stripes make the Tiguan look wider, and the round wheel arches make it look like an Audi. There is a feeling that the girl has grown fat exactly as everyone dreams: her breasts have grown by a size and a half, but she cannot see excess weight. The car has become longer, slightly wider and lower, and the wheelbase has grown. Except for the wheel arches, all lines are straight. The car looks stern, but not enough to be boring. Personally, I do not have enough emotion: something for which I want to love this car. Everything is very correct. The arches and bottom of the doors are covered with black plastic. It is practical and protects against unnecessary scratches.

The salon is interesting. Long cushion seats. No extenders - the little ones will have to get used to. The chair has a nice shape, and it is comfortable to sit. The steering wheel goes by itself. Adjustment ranges - my compliments! There are many buttons on the steering wheel, and everyone, regardless of height, needs to get used to them. I didn't have enough time for a short test drive. But this is all nonsense, until I started the car and drove it. What's really tricky is the dashboard. She is beautiful, bright, completely virtual. And it gives out so much data that you want to turn it off altogether. Thank you for the engine temperature gauge. For the angle of rotation of the wheels on the road - too. But the data on fuel consumption, power reserve and much more in the center of the speedometer and tachometer scales is a real provocateur of accidents. You get distracted from the road, trying to figure it out, everything is rippling and flashing red, blue, white and a little green ... To be honest, I don't need so much data. How you fly an ocean liner. But this I will find out later, when I go. In the meantime, I take hold of the inner doorknob, and it "breathes" in my hand. And it is made of some plastic that is not very pleasant to the touch. I immediately give the dealers an idea - to trim it with leather. But the slamming of the door is noble.

But the multimedia system is restrained in terms of a riot of colors. Everything is simple, clear and understandable. The phone connects easily, but the duplication of the smartphone turns on only when you connect it via the cord, and, it seems, only for iOS. It's strange, why can't it be done for all operating systems and via Bluetooth? Everyone admires the camera, which shows the image from four sides. For me, the simultaneous image is too small. But it can be increased on either side. The picture is good, but the cameras in the mirrors get dirty easily.

Under the central display, the climate unit looks very premium and differs little from that in Audi: three rotary knobs, and each zone has its own small display with temperature.

I look around - where to put the phone. There are many such places: under the climate there is a large shelf, magic cup holders between the seats. I didn't immediately understand how to put a container with coffee here: just a box and two buttons. Pressed and got two cupholders. Cup holders are closed with a curtain. The glove compartment is large, but hard inside. Why not make it fuzzy?

There is also a pocket in the door and a place under the armrest. The latter is height adjustable in traditional VW style.

There is much more space in the back than before. In the backs of the front seats, there are tables with different fixed positions. All positions, except one, are such that everything falls off the table. A cup holder with sharp edges comes out from the side of each table. While pulling it out - put a hook on the sweater. There are pockets under the tables. Climate control unit and cigarette lighter socket between the seats. The seat back is cool. You can pull out the armrest - and, lo and behold, there are two more cup holders in it. Rear passengers can get drunk on the road. Or you can simply fold the center back and put your snowboard or skis on. You can adjust the angle of the backrest, but you cannot move the rear seat forward to increase the trunk. By the way, the trunk has become larger, it has hooks, a removable flashlight, a 12 and 220 volt outlet. I always have a question: why is she in the trunk? Is it a picnic dream? I need an outlet right in the cabin - to charge the laptop in front. But most cars are deprived of a 220 volt outlet in principle.

It's good that the period of downsizing motors is moving away. The 1.4 liter engine is no longer offered to us. For Russia, there are two 2.0 liter engines - gasoline and diesel. I went on gasoline. Power 180 hp with. dispenses the DSG robot. There is a proud inscription on the selector lever about this. After all the hemorrhoids that the owners of these robots experienced, I would change the name altogether. For example, the Audi DSG is called S-tronic. In the meantime, sellers proudly say that this is a DSG6 robot, and you cannot take a DSG7. Reminds me of the situation with the iPhone and its cords. They constantly break, it annoys everyone, they cost like another phone, but no one abandons the brand.

The robot goes through gears quickly, but there is no sense of speed. Where 180 "horses" go, I do not know. Perhaps the diesel engine is different, but the gasoline engine was a disappointment. Not that I expected to drive, but still a Passat with a 200 hp engine. with. considered almost racing. I put the box in sport mode, but it has no effect. I tug at the plastic tabs under the steering wheel, trying to speed up the car. VW Tiguan kind of instigates me - drive calmly, stably and predictably.

Between the seats next to the robot selector there is a transmission mode selection knob. Now here, as in Land Rover, you can choose different types of surfaces. We drove on a broken dirt road covered with ice and snow. In any mode, the car drives confidently, without slipping or giving in when slipping. All-wheel drive is confident. The ground clearance of 18 cm does not seem small and allows you to park in the city and turn right in a deep rut. Once again I drove along the bumpy road. I must admit that the Tiguan has excellent punching ability. Throws up, of course, noticeably. For my taste, the car is harsh. At the gas station, they ask me to open the hood to fill in the washer, but you simply cannot open the hood. You must first open the driver's door.

I get out of the car - it's already dark. The taillights will forgive the Tiguan, three-quarters behind it looks like a Hyundai Creta. And from the front in the night he is beautiful. The beam of light makes the headlights narrow and predatory. Perhaps admittedly, VW's mid-range and older cars are not at all for the low-income. They are just for those who can no longer reach Mercedes. We are not yet ready to perceive them as premium. But the amount of 2.3 million that is asked for the Tiguan cannot be called a penny. This, by the way, is 600 thousand more expensive than its predecessor.

Volodya, why did you ask me about Tiguan, do you want a daughter?

What are you, so that the whole city poked a finger at me and said that Volodya was not enough for a Mercedes ?! I just can't calmly endure that I will have to buy her an AMG GLC43 for 5.3 million rubles, I think how much I would save if I bought a VW.

It seems to me that conspicuous consumption is going away, that we are buying more for ourselves and not for others. So in the VW showroom, the client compares the Tiguan to the Toyota RAV4, not to the Mercedes. And while I was waiting for the test, I admired the VW Passat Alltrack wagon. It costs 3 million rubles, spacious, wood in the cabin, thin leather, four-wheel drive. But I can't buy one for myself. You’ll all say that I didn’t have enough money for a Mercedes.

Who is the Tiguan for? For someone who has a family, who earns 100-200 thousand a month and should be close to their clients or not cause envy and heartburn among colleagues. For those who sensibly assess their capabilities. For those who spend a lot of time in the car or have to park in crowded cities. The head of the additional office of a large bank, the head of the sales department in a medium-sized business, or the owner of a small company. I think this car is also suitable for those who are forced to constantly wander out of town. Comfortable, versatile in terms of drive and suspension, and ready to go at cruising speed without jerking or overtaking.

In 2017, a new German crossover Volkswagen Tiguan of the second generation will go on sale on the Russian market, which has significantly increased in size compared to its predecessor. Note that the first generation of Tiguan was in great demand in Russia due to its excellent handling, attractive design, good off-road ability due to the all-wheel drive system based on the Haldex clutch, as well as the best-in-class cabin ergonomics. But the crossover also had its drawbacks, which include its modest dimensions, cramped interior, small trunk and modest ground clearance.

Differences between the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 and the old

Like any new car, the Tiguan has significantly increased in size compared to the previous version. Thanks to the MQB modular transverse platform, the engineers were able to increase the wheelbase, the free space in the passenger compartment and the volume of the luggage compartment.

Dimensions of new items (dimensions of the predecessor):

  • Length - 4,486 mm (4,426 mm);
  • Width - 1 839 mm (1 809 mm);
  • Height - 1 673 mm (1 703 mm);
  • The wheelbase is 2,677 mm (2,604 mm).

The 2017 Tiguan model year surpasses the old version by 73 mm in wheelbase length, 30 mm in width, 60 mm in length, the luggage compartment volume has increased by 145 liters (from 470 to 615 liters). It is also worth noting that the crossover will be available in a seven-seater version, but it is not yet known whether the seven-seater Tiguan will be sold in Russia. But the height of the predecessor exceeds the new product by 30 mm, but despite this, the interior of the second generation is noticeably more spacious. As for the ground clearance, it has increased from 189 mm to 200 mm.

In terms of interior and exterior design, as you can see from the photographs, the car received:

  • a different radiator grill;
  • new modern front and rear optics;
  • new front and rear bumpers;
  • new design of alloy wheels (215/65 / R17, 235/55 / R18, 235/50 / R19, 235/45 / R20);
  • more interesting body design with all kinds of stampings;
  • design of air duct deflectors;
  • different climate control;
  • new instrument panel;
  • new finishing materials and colors.

All these improvements have influenced the price, unfortunately all new Volkswagen models can hardly be called a “people's car”, and the manufacturers themselves say that they are striving to get closer to premium brands. Now the title of “people's car” has migrated to Skoda cars.

Specifications

Engine

The second generation of the German crossover is presented on the Russian market with two gasoline and one diesel power units of different capacities (you can read more about the available motors and transmissions by going to). For the review, we decided to take, in our opinion, the most optimal version with a 2.0 TSI with a capacity of 180 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.

Transmission

With a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, a DSG-7 wet clutch is offered as a transmission. Immediately, we note that this gearbox is, which is also installed on Audi sports models such as the RS 3 and RS Q3 and TT RS. The DQ500 in stock is capable of withstanding 600 Nm of torque.

The most unreliable robot is considered a seven-speed DSG with a dry clutch DQ200 from LuK. This robotic transmission is capable of withstanding up to 250 Nm of torque and is installed on front-wheel drive vehicles of the VAG brand. Most of the complaints were caused by the first generation of transmissions installed on the Volkswagen Passat. One of the main problems was the failure of mechatronics.

All-wheel drive system

The fifth-generation Haldex clutch is responsible for all-wheel drive, which, in the event of wheel slip, redistributes the torque almost instantly. Recall that the Tiguan has front-wheel drive, which can significantly save fuel consumption, and the four-wheel drive is included only forcibly, or automatically if necessary. Moreover, the crossover perfectly demonstrates its 4MOTION capabilities on light off-road conditions, thanks to the electronic differential lock (EDS) and electronic stability control (ESC), which perform the function of lateral locking of the wheels.

All this allows a car weighing 1,653 kg to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h. in 7.7 seconds, you must agree, good performance, not every sedan or hatcheck will be able to demonstrate such an impressive acceleration from a standstill. The maximum speed of the Tiguan in this configuration is 210 km / h. Another impressive indicator is fuel consumption (AI-95);

  • urban cycle - 10.8 liters;
  • track - 6.4 liters;
  • mixed - 8 liters.

These figures are declared by the manufacturer, for the most part, fuel consumption depends on your driving style and traffic load.

Price in Russia

Potential owners will be offered two configurations to choose from:

Comfortline

  • 2.0 180 HP 4motion - 1,909,000 rubles;

Highline

  • 2.0 180 HP 4motion - 2,069,000 rubles;

The difference between these two trim levels is that the richer one will include a tire pressure sensor, an electric boot lid, an electric heated windshield, a combined interior, door sills and R18 alloy wheels.

The main competitors of the second generation Tiguan in the Russian market can be considered such cars as:

  • KIA Sportage with a petrol 1.6-liter turbo engine, all-wheel drive and DCT robotic transmission, costing 2,084,900 rubles;
  • a new Ford Kuga with a 1.5-liter petrol turbo engine, four-wheel drive and an automatic 6-speed transmission, costing from 1,769,000 rubles;
  • Honda CR-V with a 2.0 liter engine, 5-speed automatic, four-wheel drive. The price of a car is from 1,769,900 rubles.
  • Mazda CX-5 with 2.5 liter engine, four-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. Price from 1 750 000 rubles;
  • Toyota RAV4 with 2.5 petrol engine, six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Price from 1 850 000 rubles;

Unlike all of the above competitors, with the exception of the crossover, the representative of the German school gives better handling, better dynamic performance and, most importantly, significantly lower fuel consumption.

What can be summed up, the second generation got rid of all the shortcomings of the first generation, became much more technologically advanced and as close as possible to the premium segment. Unfortunately, all these improvements have significantly increased the value of the car, let's see if the 2017 Tiguan can become a leader in the midsize crossover segment and show sales as high as the previous generation.

I have known the new Tiguan for about a year. During the world premiere, he rode it in Berlin and the surrounding area. But it's one thing how a car behaves in Germany, Spain or Switzerland, and quite another - in Russia. Our road surface is different, and the dirt is special, and the climate is different. Therefore, here is a report on the new Tiguan in real operating conditions.

For the test, I took a completely new car with a 2-liter diesel engine producing 150 horses. Box - DSG-7. Unlike the first generation of Tiguan, which continues to be successfully sold in our market, the new Tiguan with classic hydromechanics cannot be taken, only a six or seven DSG. There is only one complaint about the operation of the box, a slight thoughtfulness at low speeds. However, either I got used to it, or the box adapted, by the end of the test, the sluggish acceleration for a diesel engine stopped annoying me. For those looking for something hotter, there are 180 and 220 hp petrol options. In my opinion, 180 horsepower is just what you need, 220 is too much for this car.

I have already talked about the Tiguan II in detail. In that post, there are many beautiful spring photos and a detailed description of the car. Here I will dwell on the details.

2. External differences from the first generation in Moscow did not seem to me as striking as in Berlin.

3. But the neighbors on the stream rolled their necks. Fortunately, it didn’t come to emergency situations.

4. Surprisingly, on the Moscow streets wounded by winter, the car on 18 disks did not seem too tough. The crossover showed its urban nature only on the broken peripheral roads of the Yaroslavl region.

5. To test Tiguan in business, we went to Pereslavl-Zalessky. The track to it is in excellent condition, but it is worth turning off it and driving a couple of kilometers, and the testing ground for studying a car in real Russian conditions is ready. In Russian conditions, the sound insulation in the car is not very good. You can hear both uneven road and diesel engine during acceleration. I did not notice significant progress in comparison with the first generation.

6. I must admit that the Tiguan suspension does not cope with everything. On especially prominent pits and potholes, breakdowns occur, and the suspension travel is not always enough. In this regard, the new Tiguan is similar to the first generation, except that the second is a little softer and more comfortable.

7. I will come back to Pereslavl, a good city, convenient for travel to all the cities of the Golden Ring. A separate post will be devoted to him. In the meantime, let's continue about Tiguan. Side mirrors are small, closer to cars. The backward visibility could have been better. In the dark and mud, you want more.

8. No claims to the light. The intelligent high beam is very convenient. Tested, works perfectly, does not blind oncoming, turns off. Does not react to light reflected by signs and road signs.

9. Masipusyussechnye mirrors do not get dirty, as well as side windows. The aerodynamics are thought out to the smallest detail. Photo of a dirty car below.

10. But the engine compartment gets dirty decently. The mileage of the car in this picture is less than 3 thousand km.

11. The salon is light, with a predominance of cream. This color visually enlarges the space. Heated mirrors are switched on with a separate regulator on the door, which is inconvenient. I like it better when this feature is combined with a heated windshield. Moreover, in Tiguan there is an electric heating of the lobovukha.

12. The armchair is comfortable. 3 hours driving is not a problem. I think you can drive much more. On the first Tiguan, I was driving for more than 10 hours a day. The new chair is no worse.

13. The torpedo is beautiful and modern. The instrument panel is tilted in the same way as in the Audi Q7. Unusual, but not to say that it was inconvenient. Everything is visible, the devices are readable by five. There is a lot of information, the driver can choose which one to display on the dashboard. You gradually get used to the unusual incline.

14. Heated steering wheel. Trunk opening button on the driver's door, you can see it in the photo.

15. Do not look at this terrible consumption, the car was stopped after starting. Real on the highway was 6.7 l / 100 km, in the combined cycle about 8 liters of diesel fuel per hundred, and in the city closer to ten. At the same time, there are still few traffic jams in Moscow, not everyone has returned after the New Year holidays.

16. And here are the average readings. It's nice that on one tank you can go a couple of times from Moscow to Pereslavl and back and still stay. Although, in terms of mileage on one tank, the Tiguan is noticeably inferior to the Tuareg. This is due to the small fuel tank, its volume is only 58 liters.

17. The car has a choice of driving modes, but even "Sport" does not greatly change the behavior of the car.

18. There are a lot of seats in the back. There is an air conditioning adjustment for rear passengers.

19. Near the Teapot Museum. The rear window gets dirty decently, but the wiper covers most of it, providing at least some view. Not ideal, but many competitors are doing worse.

20. Side windows, like mirrors, hardly get dirty. They also barely fog up.

21. Although there was dirt.

22. When I was talking about the diesel Toyota Land Cruiser 200, I wrote that preheaters are usually not installed in cars from press parks. The exception is regular heaters. There is one in Volkswagen. You can start from the remote control or programmed in advance. Let me emphasize that we are not talking about remote starting the engine, as in the new Murano, but about the heater. Unfortunately, this feature was not useful to us, it was warm, the temperature did not drop below -3C.

23. In general, the car is fit. The best option with a 180 hp gasoline engine. in the maximum configuration Highline costs 2 million 70 thousand rubles. The diesel version that I had on the test is a little cheaper. I like the Tiguan version more than the Korean sentences. But despite the crisis, many brand new KIA Sportage can be seen on the Moscow streets.

I will add that, unlike some bloggers, we will not point the finger, I do test drives because I like it, and not because I do not have my own car. I have a good car, bigger and more expensive than Tiguan and many others that I have on the test. I conduct tests in Russian conditions, unless we are talking about completely new products. And if about them, then I take cars in Russia as soon as they appear here. And I conduct tests more than once a quarter or six months. I change to a new car every week.

In conclusion, the new Tiguan is worth buying if you like it and have money for it. If there is a tenseness with finances, then you can easily confine yourself to the first generation car, which is still produced in Kaluga. The bonus will be a real slot machine, which looks preferable in our conditions. And if it is off, then you can wait until the updated Mazda CX-5 appears. It will be shown to us very soon. Then compare and choose what you like.

A man in a winter hat with a visor, seeing the car, moved his thick mustache. He did not even immediately notice the green traffic light, which allowed him to finally cross the road. Not hiding curiosity, the pedestrian crossed the roadway, not even for a second taking his eyes off the crossover. In the eyes of a man, who looked about 50 years old, it was written “I want!”. Belarusians love Volkswagen. Sincere love that seems to be inherited. Belarus is one of the five countries in the world where the word “Volkswagen” is typed into search engines more often than the names of other car brands. This close attention to the German brand dates back to the 1990s, when our fathers fell in love with Volkswagen for its reliability, unpretentiousness and low cost. A real people's car! But now everything has changed. It is unlikely that the mustachioed man, who is interested in the new Tiguan, suspects that the panoramic roof of this car is about the size of the Golf II, the driver's seat has a bunch of electric adjustments with memory, and instead of the dashboard there is a huge display with a picture better than your TV at home ... Onliner.by spent the day paired with a brand new crossover to find out how much the Tiguan has changed with the generation.

In general, this car has been on sale in Europe for a long time - the official premiere of the Tiguan II took place in the fall of 2015. But the model is delivered to us not from Germany, but from Kaluga - hence the delay. In addition, the first "Tiguan" after the metamorphosis with the Russian ruble became very attractive in price and sold relatively well. There was even talk of leaving the old generation on the assembly line and simultaneously releasing a new one. However, then they outplayed everything, and today you can buy a Tiguan from a Belarusian dealer only in the last "booth" - the first generation was completely sold out.

Prices for a new SUV range from 47 to 65 thousand rubles (24 700-34 150 dollars). This is not counting additional options. By the way, the R-Line package is still missing from the price list (pictured below), which is currently officially unavailable for the vehicle market. It is unlikely that he would be in demand, but keep in mind that on all advertising brochures the car is in a noticeably different "er-package".

But even without sports "skirts" and giant wheels, the new Tiguan looks solid. The predecessor, whose design was created in the days of the fifth "Golf", has gone through several cardinal changes in the corporate style of the brand. The pre-styled Tiguan I with optics in the style of the Concept-R roadster (2003!) Was criticized by many for being too "slick" and even feminine. Plastic surgery in 2011 slightly corrected the situation, but still a brutal bearded man with the face of Conor McGregor looked ridiculous in Tiguan. The second generation of the crossover sat on anabolic steroids for three years. The Tiguan I was called the "all-terrain Golf". The Tiguan II can be called an all-terrain Passat.

Full diode optics in front - the property of the most expensive versions

The taillights have a cool 3D pattern. Can't be confused with any other model at night

Optional wheels Nizza "18. Design for an amateur

The active cruise control radar is hidden behind the logo.

The mirrors are folded after the closure of the central hall. They also know how to automatically adapt to the driver (memory is synchronized with the seats)

An even horizontal "rib" runs through the entire body. It adds solidity to the car.

The novelty is related to the B8 not only by the MQB trolley (which is also the basis of the "Golf") with a transverse engine arrangement, but also by the general stylistics of the exterior and interior. Head optics combined with a radiator grill, an abundance of horizontal lines, a solid and swift body silhouette, a "rich" salon with a bunch of options and a virtual dashboard - there are more similarities with the Passat than parallels with the restyled Golf VII.

For the test, the dealer issued a top-end version of the Highline with a couple of additional options. Engine - 2-liter TSI 180 hp with. (sometimes for another 220 hp), coupled with a 7-speed "robot" DSG (this is a DQ500 box with "wet" clutches - the most problem-free DSG). Among the "special stages" - 18-inch wheels, expensive leather seats, a panoramic roof, keyless access to the salon and many others. etc. There is a car that you see in the photo, 37 thousand dollars at the exchange rate. Like "odnushka" without repair.

In the salon is the kingdom of Dracula. Almost all finishing materials are black. The front seats tenaciously hold the riders, and the driver is still equipped with electrical adjustments, including adjustable lumbar support. The architecture of the front panel in Volkswagen style is logical. Below is the "climate" control unit, access to which is not blocked by the gearbox lever. One floor above - a top-end multimedia system with an 8-inch display. You bring your finger - prompts appear in the lower menu. The beauty! Near the gearbox selector there is a washer for switching driving modes. Despite the fact that this is a top-end version, there are three soulless plugs on the tunnel, hinting that it was possible to leave a couple thousand more at the dealer. e. " For a surcharge, these places will be occupied by the "car park" control keys. The most useless thing in the universe.

The second row has become more spacious (the base has increased by 77 mm). There is a comfortable armrest in the center. From the backs of the front seats, you can "protrude" tables with retractable cup holders. Already in the basic configuration, a separate climate zone is provided for the rear passengers (and two in front). The back sofa can be moved back and forth. The angle of inclination of the backrest also changes, which allows to increase the volume of the trunk.

The volume of the trunk is 615 liters (if the second row seats are pushed forward as much as possible)

Folding the back row, we get a volume of 1655 liters.

In order to fold the sofa, you just need to pull the lever

The fifth door is equipped with an electric drive with a lifting angle limiter

With the push of a pleasant button, I start the engine, and the new Tiguan's most noticeable option - the virtual dashboard - comes to life in the cabin. Photographer, do not rush to buckle up, we will deal with this miracle! I didn't have to get out the instructions. First, I remember how to set up this 12.3-inch tablet, back from the Passat B8 benchmark. Secondly, the Kaluga Tiguan does not have even half of the bells and whistles that were on the Passat, so the functionality of the virtual cockpit is severely limited. The wow-effect is caused only by the navigation mode, when the speedometer and tachometer decrease and travel to the sides, giving way to the map. The roads of Belarus in standard navigation maps are still "classified", so there is little sense from this display. Is that in the "Off-road" mode, you can observe the angle of rotation of the front wheels.

The soundproofing of the Tiguan II is not only improved over the old model, but five classes higher. Neither the sounds from under the hood, nor the "song" of the wheel arches bother you. The engine, of course, is audible during active acceleration, but not so much as to cause discomfort. The "voice" of the motor, by the way, is so-so. Passport acceleration to hundreds - 7.7 seconds. Even too fast for a family crossover. The previous "Tiguan" with the same engine accelerated to 100 km / h by 2 seconds longer. This is what “robot” means instead of the classic automatic transmission! DSG flawlessly changes gears, and if you do not look at the tachometer, then the moment of the gear change is imperceptible.

Although the Tiguan is positioned as an urban crossover, all four-wheel drive versions of the model receive 4Motion Active Control, reminiscent of Land Rover's Terrain Response. It even switches the same way - with a washer on the tunnel. All-wheel drive is connected via a fifth-generation Haldex multi-plate clutch, which spreads Newton meters even faster.

The driver has four modes at his disposal: "Snow", "Road", "Off-road" and individual. You can also click the chassis settings (by pressing the washer). There is no noticeable difference in the 4Motion Active Control profiles. The "snow" mode slightly dulls the gas, Offroad makes the "robot" keep the gear longer. Everything is configured, including individually. But the nature of the suspension can be changed between "hard" and "very hard". Fans of a smooth, imposing ride are unlikely to like the new Tiguan. Even in the "comfortable" mode, the fifth point you feel small asphalt joints and other irregularities. And if you translate the chassis into "sport", then you will even notice a hit on a 10-kopeck coin. Despite the Kaluga residence permit, this is still a European Volkswagen with a character set for driving on the Autobahn.

Many Russian colleagues chastised the new "Tiguan" for excessive "artificiality" of the steering. This trend seems to be irreversible, and new cars are moving further from the direct link "driver-front axle". The electric motor that helps rotate the steering wheel can be readjusted (along with the chassis), and the steering wheel will become more elastic. You can even change the number of turns. In any case, it is easy to drive the car: you get used to the effort on the steering wheel in 10 minutes and you can put the Tiguan rushing at speed into a long bend the first time without any steering and unnecessary gestures there. There is no problem with quickly passing a snake or bypassing an unexpected obstacle. But there is also no emotion and the feeling that you yourself control the steering angle of the front wheels.

In general, the Tiguan has become more mature, more solid and a little more expensive. This is a proper urban crossover, stuffed with electronics and more like a device on wheels. If you look at the list of equipment available for this car, we will find a bunch of displays, assistants, assistants, radars, cameras ... It seems that soon all new cars will be shown not at car dealerships, but at electronics exhibitions. But how much emotion do you get from your smartphone? And cars once gave the joy of driving. And this joy was not from the high-contrast picture on the tidy or the 3-zone "climate", but from the feeling of the car. But Volkswagen does exactly what customers want - it produces modern high-tech models that can do much more than the first spaceships could.

Along with the change of generation "Tiguan" also changed its target buyer. Already 30 Belarusians have left pre-orders for the car. According to dealer representatives, these are middle-aged men. Although before, Tiguan was bought either by women or by older men. In the Volkswagen promo video, this crossover is driven by a brutal 35-year-old man with a disheveled beard and Converse sneakers. A kind of aged hipster. It seems that this image also points to the typical buyer of the novelty. The main thing is that this hipster had 30 thousand dollars set aside. The basic version ($ 24.7 thousand), although equipped to the eyeballs, has not the most serious 1.4 TSI, "mechanics" and front-wheel drive. There is also an excellent diesel option - 2.0 TDI (150 HP). By the way, it is with such a motor that Belarusians most often order a new "Tiguan".

The importer hopes to take the leading position in the segment with the Tiguan (competitors - Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5, Ford Kuga). We wish you good luck. Although this year there is a serious "movement" in the SUV class: not so long ago a new Ford Kuga arrived in Minsk, the second generation of the popular Mazda CX-5 SUV will debut soon, a Skoda dealer has already made room for Kodiaq in the showroom. And the second generation Audi Q5 will also arrive, with which the prices of the top-end Tiguan will obviously intersect. In general, it will be hot in the crossover segment in 2017!
