We replace the lamp in the headlight with our own hands

It so happens that the warranty period for your favorite car does not include lamps for near and far lighting and dimensions. If they are burnt out, you will have to change them yourself. Replacing the lamps yourself will be much cheaper than at a service station. Changing the lamp in the headlight of a car does not seem to be something difficult and inaccessible. Everything is done easily and simply.

Automotive lamps and their features

When choosing lamps, the owner of a car should know the following points:

  • - variety of products;
  • - the correct choice of lamps;
  • - is it allowed to replace lamps separately;
  • - installation of products from different companies;
  • - rules and guidelines.

Let us dwell on each moment in more detail. For example, let's take the replacement of a low beam lamp.

There are four elements in the car that are responsible for lighting the road: two for high and low lights. But there are lamps that combine these two functions. If one of the modes is violated, then the entire lamp will have to be replaced, despite the fact that the other mode continues to function. Of course, this is inconvenient and wasteful. If it is problematic to find a similar replacement lamp, then it is recommended to begin with checking the filament for its integrity. For this, a light bulb is pulled out of the headlight housing, it looks whether the thread is broken or not. If so, the lamp has become unusable. Another malfunction is determined by the charred body.

How to choose and replace a lamp

When buying a new lamp, it is advisable to go along with the old burned-out light source removed from the headlight. This allows you to more accurately select a similar lamp or similar. Why is that? Because some car models are equipped with lighting devices whose power is 55 or 70-75 watts. If you put a lamp more or less powerful from these indicators, then the lighting will vary greatly. For car owners on sale there are lamps in the following formats: H1, H2, H3, H8 and H11.

Before purchasing a new lamp, you should find out what format the device is on your car. If you yourself find it difficult to understand what kind of light source is needed, then you need to show the seller an old lamp, and he will be able to advise which one to choose to replace it.

Low beam lamps can be changed one at a time, but many service stations do not want to do this. Car service technicians strongly advise that double replacement be made to avoid difference in lighting. This naturally happens, but the difference in the glow is not noticeable to the untrained eye. In general, it should be remembered that if one lamp or filament burns out, then the second will soon also burn out - the device's service life is coming to an end. Soon, you will still have to change both lamps.

Nowadays, it has become popular to install mirror light sources from different companies. But this is not the best option, because elements of even the same power can differ both in the strength of the glow and in the color scheme. In this case, you need to experiment with different models.

Light element replacement mechanism

To begin with, the hood of the car opens and a plastic headlight cover is looked for from the inside. 90% of all cars are equipped with a plastic cap that protects the contacts and elements of the headlight from dust and dirt. This casing unscrews like a bottle cap. Then the block with wires is disconnected, and the lamps are removed from it. Inside we see mounts and glow sources that can be easily removed. First of all, you should find a locking fastener in the form of an iron wire. She clings to the hook. They snap it off and pull out the lamp. On some vehicles, it is necessary to unscrew a few special bolts before removing the wire.

A couple of minutes will be enough to complete these actions. They end up installing a new bulb and reassembling the headlight in reverse order. Next, a protective plastic cap is installed back. And the headlights work as before, delighting the driver with their powerful and bright glow.
