Each individual VAZ 2110 engine mounting cushion and all of them together are designed to provide reliable fastening with simultaneous vibration isolation of the engine and gearbox on a car.
Therefore, if you start to feel vibrations and a characteristic tapping and creaking in the engine area while driving over bumps, when shifting gears or during other actions, as if pieces of iron hit each other, it is indeed the motor mounts that should be suspected.
On the VAZ 2110, the pillow is a rubber-metal part such as a silent block. On the one hand, this part is attached to the body, on the other - to the engine block. They hold not only the motor, but also the gearbox.
Design difference
On the VAZ 2110, the engine is usually held by three to four points from the bottom, and two to three at the top. But you should know that the 8-valve engine has a rear engine mount. The 16-valve does not have it, but it has additional supports.
But in general, they are replaced in the same way.
By the way, if desired, an additional support can also be installed.
Health check
Before you change the pillows, you should check the performance of the old ones. It may happen that the cause of vibration and knocking is not in them.
- We expose the VAZ 2110 on props;
- We install a jack with a backing of a board or a bar under the oil pan and jack up the engine until the pillows are freed from its weight;
- We check all pillows, namely:
Are there any cracks on them;
How easy it is to separate them from the substrate (it is made of metal);
Have they retained their firmness;
If no obvious flaws were found, and replacement is not yet needed, check the backlash between the frame and the plates;
Lubricate the pillows with a protective compound, lower the motor, tighten the fasteners and nuts.
8 valve engine
If you need a replacement on an 8-valve, then we act like this:
- Right pillow. You need to open:
top nut;
Bolts for fastening to the bracket;
Bolts under the wheel arch securing the bracket to the side member.
We remove the bracket and install a new pillow, assembling in the reverse order. - Left. After unscrewing the top nut onto the prepared support, lower the motor, pull the top washer out of the support. We unscrew the fixing bolts, remove the washer, after which you can replace it;
- Rear (only for 8-valve). Unscrew the nuts that attach the pillow to the body, then the bolts of its fastening to the gearbox. A new part may come with a bracket. But if it is not there, install it with it removed and assemble all the parts in place.
16 valve engine
On a VAZ with a 16-valve engine, a slightly different device. First, you need to replace the front lower pillow, then the upper front one.
Additional support
In order to reduce the movement of the engine in the longitudinal direction, an additional support (suspension rod) can be installed. Mostly they are purchased in online stores. An additional support is installed on all types of VAZ 2110, but there are some peculiarities.
