How to connect, check and adjust fog lights on a VAZ 2110

Installing fog lights is not just a step towards improving the appearance of the VAZ 2110, but also taking care of your own convenience and safety. That is why you should know how fog lights are connected to the VAZ 2110 and provide the best conditions for driving in bad weather.

Why is this needed?

Modern fog lights provide significantly more "penetrating" light through fog and rain, and better illuminate the roadway. First, PTFs give a flatter light flux, spreading above the ground, and spreading more in width than in height.

This was not done in vain. The fact is that due to the mismatch in the temperature of the air and the ground (the earth is warmer), the fog rarely reaches the road itself, which means that with such headlights on the VAZ 2110 you will see the road along which you are driving, at least ten meters ahead. low beam headlights.

Secondly, due to the width of the fog light beam, you will see the roadside and markings. This will not allow you to "fly off" the road, which is not uncommon in fog.

Thirdly, you will not blind oncoming cars, but you yourself will be visible to other road users, if, of course, the adjustment is done correctly. This means that the likelihood that another car will not crash into your VAZ 2110 increases.

Color value

Someone in the old fashioned way believes that it is better when the foglights are yellow. But this is not true. Most of the leading manufacturers today produce transparent white fog lights, and they are not only as good as yellow ones, but often surpass them.

Corrugated or transparent glass can be installed on the VAZ 2110. For some reason, the latter are more fashionable, although less useful, since they shine with spots, and corrugated ones give a more directional beam, which really increases visibility in bad weather.

Buying the necessary

You can, in principle, buy a ready-made set along with wires, but many believe that if you buy everything separately, the number of installation options increases, and all this will cost less. So, we get:

  • Headlights set (2 pieces);
  • Plastic pads;
  • Headlight frames;
  • A key and a yellow indicator for it;
  • Relay;
  • Wires. Better bought in an electrical equipment store, so that there are two copper conductors with double insulation (SHVVP-2 is suitable). A cross section of 0.5 mm will also be normal, but if you want to supply lamps of higher power, take 0.75 mm.;
  • Terminal for installation on "mass";
  • Wide as well as narrow terminals called mom / dad. When purchasing them, it is advisable not to take them complete with wires. Installation will be more convenient if these terminals are crimped with pliers already at the connections of the installed wires.

Note: if your VAZ has an old-style dashboard, then it is better to buy a PTF 2110 kit, and for a new, so-called EURO, it is more convenient to connect a PTF 2115.

You can, of course, vary, but we are talking about the convenience of the location of the buttons. Regarding the power of the lamps, 55 W is enough, no longer needed. Also note that very cheap foglights won't last long.

Installation

The connection of PTFs should begin with determining the place of their installation. If this is not otherwise provided by the manufacturer, then they must be placed under the bumper.

Installation of fog lights is possible exactly according to the diagram attached to them, but you can make some changes, not forgetting that they also need precise adjustment for optimal operation.

It is more convenient to work according to the following scheme:

  1. Laying of wires to PTF. It is made on the left under the hood along the wing, approximately the same as the installation of the main wiring;
  2. Connecting power to the button on the instrument panel. According to the factory scheme, the power supply is installed from the fuse on the dimensions on the right. But you can take it from the button to turn on the lighting or from the output from the ignition switch to turn on the main headlights. In this case, the fog lights will only light up when the ignition is on. It is possible, although not very desirable, to take power from the output to the dimensions. But then you can, for example, forget to turn off the foglights and plant the battery;
  3. Connecting the plug to the headlights.

Actually, with the correct connection, the light on the foglights should already be there. But if you turn them on, and they do not light up, then the installation has failed somewhere, and you need to check the "segments" of the circuit. The click of the relay will help: if it is, then the electromagnetic coil turns it on. But it may be that the relay itself needs to be replaced.

And the final touch is the adjustment of the fog light. If they light the road and the side of the road, look down a little so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers, then everything is correct, and you can hit the road, even if the fog sets.
