Increased clearance of Sandero. Ground clearance (clearance) Renault Sandero Stepway. Why is normal ground clearance important for a car?

Due to its democratic price and compactness, it managed to win the hearts of many families.

When the French bought the Romanian brand DASIA in 1999, it became a subsidiary of Renault. The acquisition was motivated specifically for the production and sale of budget car models in Europe and developing countries.

In some countries, the model is still marketed under the DASIA brand.

The French, along with the Romanians and Brazilians, began work on the car in 2005, the platform and interior were borrowed from the Dacia Logan. Thanks to the amazing sales of the budget Logan (in 2007, 230,000 cars of this brand were sold), the French got it by improving the exterior design. They were not mistaken - after the presentation at the Geneva Motor Show and the release of the car on sale (March 2008), about 300,000 cars were sold in the first year.

2012 - modification at the Paris Auto Show. A second generation car and a Stepway modification were presented. It featured more modern shapes, a completely redesigned interior and a brand new 3-cylinder one-liter engine.

Restyling is cosmetic in nature and is mainly aimed at giving similarity to other automakers.

Renault Sandero design

The car looks good for its class and value, unfortunately it will remain unattended on public roads, since there are a lot of them and everyone is already used to them. The muzzle received a slightly embossed hood, which is reduced to a small radiator grill, on which there is a chrome bar and the brand logo. Here, narrow optics with a halogen filling are used, which gives a little aggression to the design. The massive bumper at the bottom has a large grille on which the round fog lights are adorned with chrome trim looks good.

On the side, the model will delight with very strongly inflated wheel arches, which give the car more muscularity. It is also from this perspective that we can notice a small stamping in the lower part and chrome aluminum trims on the door handles.

The rear part of the car received a spoiler at the top, it also has optics that are quite interesting in design, but in terms of filling it still remains halogen. The massive bumper is simple enough, decorated with small reflectors and that's it.

Dimensions:

  • length - 4080 mm;
  • width - 1733 mm;
  • height - 1523 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2589 mm;
  • ground clearance - 155 mm.

There is also the body of the Renault Sandero 2017-2018 Stepway, which differs in design, it looks more like an SUV. That is, it has roof rails, various plastic protections, it has 40 mm more ground clearance, which already says something.

Specifications

Type of Volume Power Torque Overclocking Maximum speed Number of cylinders
Petrol 1.1 l 75 h.p. 107 H * m 14.5 sec. 156 km / h 4
Petrol 1.6 l 82 h.p. 134 H * m 11.9 sec. 172 km / h 4
Petrol 1.6 l 102 h.p. 145 H * m 10.5 sec. 180 km / h 4

The manufacturer, already in the basic configuration, offers its customers three types of different power units.

  1. The first engine is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, it is naturally aspirated and produces 82 horsepower at its volume. As a result, acceleration to hundreds takes just over 12 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 165 kilometers per hour. At the same time, the motor consumes 10 liters in the city, and on the highway it will take only six.
  2. The second Renault Sandero 2 engine is exactly the same, but it already has 16 valves, and not eight as in the previous case. With its volume, it has a capacity of 102 horsepower and accelerates the car to the first hundred in 11 seconds, and the maximum speed has increased to 170 kilometers per hour. It should be noted, however, that the consumption practically did not change, it even became a little less.
  3. The most powerful power unit in the lineup of this car is a 1.6-liter 16-valve engine that produces 113 horsepower. The motor needs 11 seconds for the car to reach the first hundred, and its maximum speed has increased by only two kilometers per hour, in contrast to the previous version of the unit. The dynamic performance is slightly better, but it will not be noticeable, but the fuel consumption will be noticeable, it has really become less.

Five-speed gearbox and. Reliable transmission design. Perfectly matched gear ratios allow precise engagement / shifting of gears. The most environmentally friendly 1.6 gasoline engine that also runs on bioethanol is presented in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil.

The front suspension of the car is generated with a pseudo-wishbone. The rear suspension is expressed by a programmable deformation H-axle, connected to coil springs and vertical shock absorbers. The suspension turned out to be elastic and long-travel - ideal for a quality ride.

Interior Renault Sandero 2017-2018

The designers skillfully combined the quality, compactness and elegance of the interior. Plastic visor over the instruments, “aluminum look” inserts on the center console, air ducts with silver edging, stylish performance of the steering wheel, adjustable in height. The dashboard is polypropylene in the form of a honeycomb for inflicting a minimum number of injuries in the event of an accident. Spaciousness is also impressive - three adults can fit in the back seat. Wide door opening angle with sturdy handles. The trunk volume of 320 liters can be increased to 1200 liters due to the rear seats folded down, which is quite good for a trip to nature or fishing with friends.

The latest car models have added the innovation MEDIANAV - the touch screen combines a satellite navigator, radio, headphone jacks, USB and the ability to talk on the phone in a hands-free mode using Bluetooth. Additionally, you can install an air conditioner in the cabin.

Safety was taken care of by 3 stars - two airbags and three-point belts.

The disadvantages of the cabin include the inconvenient location of the power window buttons and the mirror adjustment joystick.

Renault Sandero 2 price

This model is offered to the buyer in 3 different configurations. The Stepway version only offers two. The basic version with the weakest engine will cost the buyer 554 900 rubles nor will it please with chic equipment, it will have power steering, fabric interior and audio preparation.

The maximum configuration looks much more attractive, with the weakest engine it will cost 719,000 rubles, and for the most powerful one will have to pay another 70,000 rubles. Nevertheless, the top version of Privilege will receive the following:

  • heated front seats;
  • heated steering wheel;
  • climate control;
  • Cruise control;
  • fog lights;
  • Bluetooth;
  • navigation system, but paid.

Statistics show that almost every 25th buyer gave preference to this particular car, which took its place of honor among the 25 best-selling cars.

The car embodies an affordable price and high quality along with new technologies. The manufacturer guarantees durability, ease of maintenance and repair, excellent cross-country ability on any road, resistance to changing temperatures and an undoubted breadth of the range of applications.

Renault Sandero 2017-2018 can easily be called universal - it is suitable both for life in a big metropolis and for small towns, a great option for business trips or for going out into the countryside.

Apparently, after Renault appreciated the success of the Sandero hatchback, it was decided to expand this model to a compact crossover. That was and was done practically by one change in the Sandero's design - the replacement of the suspension. Additionally, the SUV entourage was added, and the new Renault Sandero Stepway model entered life, becoming one of the most popular crossovers in Russia.

Features of the car

Not all SUV lovers accepted this model into their ranks, explaining their opinion by the fact that Stepway, at least, lacks rear-wheel drive, so for them it will be a pseudo-crossover. Renault is positioning Sandero Stepway as a car with an off-road character.

In order to make a crossover out of an ordinary car, it is enough to raise the body. This method is used by many tuning enthusiasts using special spacers. But this method changes the geometry of the suspension, violates wheel alignment, steering mechanics. The car becomes less predictable and the chassis life is shorter. In addition, the electronic systems ABS, ESP, RSC go astray. Renault engineers took a different path.

The prototype of Stepway, the Renault Sandero hatchback, has the usual landing of an urban passenger car with a ground clearance of 155 mm (Lada Prior has 165 mm). In the first generation Renault Stepway, it became 2 cm higher - 175 mm.

To do this, the developers of Renault Sandero recalculated the struts, shock absorbers and springs in such a way that the car not only lifted, but also the energy intensity corresponded to the height of the body, its weight and optimal suspension travel. Also, some data in the electronic control system of Renault were corrected.

Increase the fit by 2 cm

The high ground clearance of Renault Sandero increases cross-country ability, which is described by the dimensions of several corners:

  • entrance (front overhang angle);
  • exit (rear overhang angle);
  • longitudinal cross-country ability;
  • roll-over (ramp angle);

The overhang angle is a value that means at what angle the vehicle can enter the overpass. And if you make a calculation, you can determine that with an increase in clearance by 2 cm, without changing anything else, the angle will change by only 1-1.5 degrees.

In order to increase it significantly, Renault engineers had to raise the front bumper up and reduce the distance of the Stepway's front overhang. Thus, the front overhang angle was almost 30 degrees, and the rear almost 35 degrees.

But not every day you have to drive over a steep obstacle. And park many times a day. According to SNiP norms, the height of the curbs protecting the carriageway from the sidewalk is 15-16 cm. When parking on a Sandero with a ground clearance of 15.5 cm, you can break the bumper. But if you have a Sandero Stepway with a clearance of 17.5 mm, you can park safely to the stop of the wheels. The same is true if you are driving onto a sidewalk. If you drove into it with the front wheels, this does not mean that the small roll angle will help the rear wheels to enter. It is in these cases that an additional 2 cm helps.

Increase the fit by another 2 cm

In the second version of the 2014 Stepway, Renault designers decided to go further and increase the ground clearance by another 2 cm, that is, in the new model it was already 195 mm. This is a serious claim that practically puts the Stepway in the SUV class in terms of ride height.

The procedure for increasing the clearance of Sandero was similar to the previous one for the first generation Renault Stepway. The springs and shock absorber struts were lengthened and the calculation data of Renault Stepway for the ECU was changed.

In addition, thanks to the high ground clearance of the Sandero and the widened arch, the Renault Stepway now comes standard with 16 inch 205/55 R 16 wheels.

Their increased diameter and width further improve traction and, indeed, increase flotation. But this is also an additional load on the engine. And Renault engineers did not think about enriching the Sandero Stepaway, if not with a new powerful engine, then at least removing it from the standard power limits.

It should be noted that a clearance height of 19.5 cm, as in the first generation of 17.5 cm, is indicated for a fully loaded Renault Sandero. But if you are driving alone, then your vehicle's position is even higher.

What conclusion can be drawn

Renault owners, real or potential, often worry if the Sandero loses its stability when the body is raised, or if the roll increases when cornering. The designers asked themselves the same questions. Therefore, the Stepway's body was narrowed by a few centimeters, but the wheelbase remained the same. Thus, the center of gravity is even more concentrated in the center of the vehicle. In addition, in the Privilege configuration, the car is equipped with additional safety options:

  • ESP - prevents skidding when cornering by changing the torque of each wheel.
  • RSC - when roll is detected, reduces engine speed and activates anti-lock braking system to prevent roll over.

The elevated seating position does not yet turn the Renault Sandero Stepway into an SUV, but it allows you to enjoy its benefits.

Dimensions of the new Renault Sandero Stepway The 2014-2015 model year has not changed significantly. The dimensions of the hatch are the same as those of a regular new generation Sandero, with some additions and changes related to design and suspension features.

At the same time, different dimensions are only outside, inside the volume of the cabin and the luggage compartment remains the same. That is trunk of the new Sandero Stepway still accommodates 320 Liters, and with the seats folded down 1200 liters. The gas tank holds 50 liters of fuel.

The main changes took place in the ground clearance. Recall that in the usual Sandero it is 155 mm, in the old version of the Stepway this figure is 175 mm, and in the new Renault Sandero Stepway body this figure is as much as 200 mm. In connection with this, the height of the car has increased. Do not forget that the roof of an ordinary Sandero does not have roof rails, while Stepway does.

Dimensions, weight, volumes, ground clearance of the new Renault Sandero Stepway

  • Length - 4084 mm
  • Width - 1733 mm
  • Height - 1575 mm
  • Front track - 1497 mm
  • Back track - 1486 mm
  • Curb weight - from 1090 kg
  • Gross weight - 1575 kg
  • Base, distance between front and rear axle - 2589 mm
  • Trunk volume Renault Sandero Stepway - 320 liters
  • The volume of the trunk of Renault Sandero Stepway with the seats folded is 1200 liters
  • Fuel tank volume - 50 liters
  • Tire size - 185/65 R 15
  • Ground clearance or clearance Renault Sandero - 200 mm

By the way, the European version of the Stepway has a ground clearance of about 186 mm. Russia decided to release a Brazilian version new Sandero Stepway with 20 cm ground clearance... Because our roads are much closer to the Brazilian off-road than to the European "parquet". The suspension has modified shock absorbers and reinforced springs. This is perhaps the most serious technical innovation. After all, the transmission and power units have remained the same.

Many drivers of the 2015 Sandero have a desire to increase the ground clearance. In the standard model, this figure is 155 mm. Often this height is not enough, which causes a lot of inconvenience. In an urban setting, this practically does not interfere. In exceptional cases, problems may arise when driving onto a curb or a speed bump that is too high.

In off-road or rural environments, this Renault's problem is compounded. 155 mm for this Renault 2015 is clearly not enough to overcome various obstacles without risk for the car. Thus, it becomes necessary to make the Sandero clearance height larger.

Greater ground clearance will allow Renault drivers to tackle off-road better. For example, fishing enthusiasts who drive Sandero often complain that the car is completely unsuitable for driving on rural roads.

There are several ways to raise Renault: install rubber of a larger diameter or install a spacer on the upper spring support. It is also possible to use pneumatic cushions for Sandero. This option may seem quite convenient, but it will be expensive. For example, off-road, you can turn on the pneumatics and not worry about the car. When driving onto an asphalt surface, the pneumatics are turned off and Renault, in theory, settles on its own springs. It is worth noting that raising the clearance with this system on Renault is very laborious, since not only pneumatics are needed, but also a computer, as well as the rest of the infrastructure.

It should be noted that all of these decisions may affect Sandero's warranty. It may well be that the dealer will not accept Renault under the repair warranty. However, if the 2015 Sandero is no longer under warranty, then the car is no longer in danger.

Fitting a larger diameter rubber

In conjunction with the installation of larger diameter discs on Renault, this method will increase the ground clearance. It is possible that such measures will not be as significant and may seem insufficient. Fitting wheels of even larger diameter to Renault can cause the rubber to rub against the arches when cornering. The handling of the car may also deteriorate. It should be remembered that the manufacturer does not recommend the installation of wheels on Sandero 2015 of the wrong diameter.

This method can be used in conjunction with the installation of new larger racks. Thus, the wheels will not touch the arches, and Renault will add in ground clearance.
This is the easiest way to raise the lumen, but it requires a certain cost. Therefore, you can consider the solution to install this part on the upper spring seat Renault.

Installing an additional part

When installing spacers on Renault, you also need to remember that there is a maximum angle to which the CV joint can deviate. Installing a large part can damage the cv joint, requiring replacement. Many motorists note that raising a car by 3 cm does not in any way affect the technical condition of the CV joint. Fitting a similar item to a larger Renault may damage it.

To check, you can hang the front wheel on a jack. So it will become visible to what maximum angle the CV joint will deviate. Thus, you can choose a part of the desired size, which will increase the height of Renault, and also not harm the chassis.

Spacers for Renault can be milled by yourself, according to drawings that are available on the network or purchased in stores. In particular, the following models are suitable for the 2015 Sandero rear springs:

  • 16-15-007 / 20 for rear springs (20 mm);
  • 16-15-007 / 30 for rear springs (30 mm);
  • 16-15-007 / 40 for rear springs (40 mm) The following models can be used for the A-pillar:
  • 16-15-005 / 20 for the front pillar (20 mm);
  • 16-15-005 / 30 for the A-pillar (30 mm).

It should be noted that it is better to fit the parts on the 2015 Sandero of the same size. Otherwise, the vehicle may lose controllability.

Installation process

You will need a special tool to install the spacers. It is best to stock up on them in advance, so as not to look later.

The process itself can take about 3 hours. From the tool you will need a spring brace, a head for 21, 27.13, 16 mm, open-end or box wrenches for 17 mm, and a nut for 14 mm in the amount of 2 pieces. A nut from a VAZ 2101 is quite suitable. It is very important not to tear off the ABS wire when the rack is dismantled.

The Sandero needs to be put on the parking brake and wheel chocks should be placed. Next, you need to put Sandero on a jack and remove the wheel. By loosening the top nut, the rack is dismantled. In this case, you need to clamp the spring so that it does not jump out. Otherwise, you can get injured or damage part of the car.

Next, you need to disassemble the Sandero stand. To do this, you can use a 27 mm wrench and a 6 mm Allen key. After disassembly, the selected part is installed on the spring bowl. Depending on the height of the additional element, the stem threads may become smaller by a certain height. In this case, the nut from the VAZ will just be useful. The fact is that the standard nut has a rim at the bottom, which will prevent the nut from being attached.

Further Renault is going in the reverse order. After that, the same operation is done with the rest of the wheels. As a result, the 2015 Sandero's ground clearance should rise to a certain height, depending on the part chosen. The cost of the part itself will be much lower than the cost of new larger diameter wheels. Thus, we can conclude that this method is the most preferable for raising the clearance. In addition, you can raise the clearance yourself.

Outcome

Many 2015 Sandero drivers say this is actually more effective. The difference in ground clearance can become quite noticeable. At the same time, the difference will be even more noticeable when the car enters the dirt road or when driving onto the curb. It should be added that the car can change its driving properties. In most cases, however, raising ground clearance will not affect handling.
Spacers on Sandero can be used with larger uprights. This will allow the car to be lifted. Also, the use of a spacer does not affect the condition of the Sandero shock absorbers themselves.

Dimensions of the new Renault Sandero differ little from the hatchback in the old body, but there are some differences. Although this is more likely due to the design features of the new body, the shape of the bumpers, roof and so on. For example, we can even compare the sizes of the old and new Sandero.

First, we note the dimensions and volumes, which have not changed with the change of generations at Renault Sandero. Firstly clearance of new and old Renault Sandero remained unchanged and amounts to 155 mm... The luggage compartment also has the same parameters of 320 liters (with the rear seats folded down 1200 liters). The Sandero gas tank still has a volume of 50 liters. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear axles has remained virtually unchanged. The old Sandero has 2588 mm, the new body has 2589 mm, whether you can feel this millimeter is unlikely.

Now let's talk about dimensions of Sandero, which still do not match in the old and new Renault Sandero bodies. So the length of the hatchback became longer, namely 4080 mm, against 4020 mm for the old body. On the contrary, the height and width have decreased by a few millimeters. The new Sandero is 11 mm lower and 13 mm narrower. As for the weight of the car, the weight of the old and new budget hatch from Renault is different, but the difference is only a few kilograms.

Dimensions, weight, volumes, ground clearance of the new Renault Sandero 2

  • Length - 4080 mm
  • Width - 1733 mm
  • Height - 1523 mm
  • Front track - 1497 mm
  • Back track - 1486 mm
  • Curb weight - 1044 kg with 1.2 liter engine
  • Curb weight - 1078 kg with a 1.6 liter engine (8-cl.)
  • Curb weight - 1104 kg with 1.6 liter engine (16-cl.)
  • Gross weight - 1510 kg with 1.2 liter engine
  • Gross weight - 1540 kg with a 1.6 liter engine (8-cl.)
  • Gross weight - 1560 kg with a 1.6 liter engine (16-cl.)
  • Base, distance between front and rear axle - 2589 mm
  • Trunk volume Renault Sandero - 320 liters
  • The volume of the trunk of Renault Sandero with the seats folded is 1200 liters
  • Fuel tank volume - 50 liters
  • Tire size - 185/65 R 15
  • Ground clearance or clearance Renault Sandero - 155 mm

It is worth noting that the manufacturer indicates a ground clearance of 155 mm, taking into account some vehicle load, that is, if you measure this indicator in an empty car, then the clearance will most likely be higher. In addition, the weight of a car with a 1.2-liter engine is less than with a 1.6-liter engine. As for the size of the cabin, the inside of the updated Sandero differs little from its predecessor.
