Test drive winter tires 225/40 R18V without spikes

The German magazine Sport AUTO presented the results of a comparative test of ten winter tires of size 225/40 R18V.

All tires took part in the tests on a snow-covered, wet and dry road, and also checked for rolling resistance and noise level. The journal experts tried to find an option offering maximum performance and minimum compromises for those who prefer sports driving even on winter roads.

A Toyota GT86 with rear-wheel drive was chosen as a test car.

Evaluation System

In each discipline, the maximum number of points - 10. The test for environmental friendliness is significant by 10%, tests on both types of surface and snow covered - 30%.

results

Last locomotive Toyo tires are located. With a common score of 6.9. Tires well shown themselves on dry coating. In terms of noise, the rubber is located in the last four. Toyo occupied 3rd place in testing braking and manageability on a wet road. Tires poured tests in the snow. The exception was the traction effort and second place.

Divided the position with a score of 6.9 Nankang tires. They also poured tests in the snow. But in the traction test, the tires ranked first. In wet tire tests are in the top three lagging. Exception - aquaplaning. There they occupy 3 and 4 places.

8th place - Cooper with an estimate of 7.4 points. The snow cover was given to them better than the previous one, but the result leaves much to be desired. The dry coating was slightly better. The strengths are comfort and safety on the wet surface.

Nokian tires occupied 7th place with 7.6 points. Tires have weak results on a snowy and wet coverage. In the first case, braking became an exception, in the second - lateral stability. Efficiency and dry coating earned full 9 points.

6th place - Pirelli (7.7). These tires can be recommended, but with limitations. They are good on wet coverage. Dry and snow cover leave to desire the best.

Tires Yokohama are located on the 5th place with a final estimate of 7.8. Tires showed themselves well on snow and wet surface. Of the shortcomings there are noise at speeds from 40 km / h to 80 km / h. Another minus is slow reactions to the steering movements on a dry road.

Hankook tires occupied 4 position with a common score of 7.9. They can be recommended, but with restrictions. Behave well in the snow. They are driving handling on wet road and brakes on a dry and wet coating.

Michelin opens up the top three (8.5). Experts put the mark "Recommended". Of the minuses - the brake path on the dry road and the resistance to the effect of aquaplaning. Wet coating and snow were given on "good".

The pedestal of the winner and the total score of 9.0 divide Continental and Goodyear. The first shown themselves quiet. Tires have a high level of fuel economy. The second features a balance of characteristics.

Well, we had to come to Sweden twice. The first time we sat for a week, having rolled back the entire test program on the snow and ice. And then, in April, the brake paths on the wet and dry asphalt were measured on the wagon on the wet and dry asphalt, and they appreciated the acoustic comfort and smoothness. Well, then, using the traditional system for transferring results to points, summed up.

The main surprise in the studded standings - no, not the victory of Tires Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9. And very high tire results Hankook Winter I * Pike RS2: on the results of the tests on winter coatings they are the best! In order not to get to him, we decided to arrange them check. We waited for August, bought a set of tires in Moscow, and in Germany. And there at the CONTROM polygon there is a closed ice track, where the winter tires are testing all year round. Series of measurements in a pair with test winners, Nokian Hakkapeliitt tires 9 (we bought them, and run around in August in Moscow, so that the tires were "with one story"), - and ... if the Hankook Hypovki granted in the winter was better than Nokian, and five percent, then with trade tires, the situation has changed with accuracy to the opposite: Nokian is better at braking as much as eight percent! While that after running, the average speech of spikes at the Nokian and Hankook tires turned out to be approximately the same - 1.4 mm.

Of course, we can talk about another quality of ice or that we were able to buy only Hankook Winter I * Pike RS2 with a different load index (91 instead of 94). But neither one could not radically change the brake properties on the ice. Therefore, on the tires of Hankook Winter I * Pike RS2, we put the Red Tag: Commodity Tires are not so good as those that occupied the honorable third place in our ranking. By the way, there is no questions to Nokian: a set of Hakkapeliitta 9 made at the Russian Tire Plant demonstrated the same properties on the ice as the Finnish production tires that we were tested in March.

And the Russian tires Cordiant Snow Cross 2, we generally removed from the rating: pre-seventure tires were too low quality. When braking on the ice - the worst result! But the model of the current generation Snow Cross looked in our past tests is quite worthy. Cordiant's shinniki, in parallel with us, conducting your own tests, also recorded problems on ice - and not to lose the reputation, postponed the launch of the mass production of the Snow Cross tire model for at least a year. According to preliminary information, the suppliers of raw materials are to blame for an Omsk tire plant, where the Snow Cross series tires are produced. Only four 14-inch sizes were decided on sale - there are no problems with them.

Winter Rubber Rating 2018-2019

So, in the class of studded tires, once again, the victory goes to the Finnish tires of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9. Cool tires, but expensive - and intended primarily for suburban exploitation. After all, the second and fourth places of Continental IcecontAct 2 and Gislaved Nord * Frost 200 on the asphalt are better than the asphalt.

Well, among the notched tires on top of the rating, the new model Continental VikingContact 7, but Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2 tires, Pirelli Ice Zero FR and Nokian HakkaPeliitta R3 are visible quite a bit. And again we repeat: choosing tires, consider your habitat. If you never leave the streets of large cities, pay more attention to asphalt indicators. And if basically has to ride on snow-covered and iced plots - for purely winter properties.

Toyo Obsreve GSI-5

Dimension 205/55 R16
(123 sizes from 175/70 R13 to 275/40 R22)
Speed index Q (160 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 10

Producing country Japan

If you believe the press releases, the particles of walnut tires are mixed into the rubber of these tires, and the absorbent in the form of soot from the burnt bamboo ... But on the ice coupling properties mediocre: in the turns of sliding stretched and poorly controlled. In the snow, the Toyo bus provide an efficient slowdown and row with slip, but it is not easy to slide. On wet asphalt - failed braking. And the comfort level is low. We do not recommend.

Hankook Winter I * CEPT IZ2

Dimension 205/55 R16
(50 sizes from 175/70 R13 to 255/40 R19)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 9,2
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 56
Producing country South Korea

Winter I * Cept IZ2 - New Hankook company, but in contrast to the studio model Winter I * Pike RS2, it made more than modestly. And on ice, and on the rolled snow lacks longitudinal coupling properties - thank you, though that in the turns of the holder better. On the asphalt tires in moderation comfortable, but again slippery. Against the background of the success of the last summer tires Hankook, we have the right to wait much more from this model!

Bridgestone Blizzak VRX.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(57 sizes from 175/70 R13 to 255/45 R19)
Speed index S (180 km / h)
Load index 91 (615 kg)
Mass, kg. 9,2
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 53
Producing country Japan

Bridgestone friction tires against the background of European models are modest. In the theory, the microporous tires of the tread must remove moisture from the surface of the ice, thereby increasing the clutch coefficient. However, in the practice of clutch on ice clearly lacks. On the scattered snow, the situation is better. But if you leave the snowdrift with slip, then Blizzak VRX is a bad assistant. But on asphalt, these tires work canceled: on dry coating the minimum brake path! So, we recommend them for large cities, albeit with some reservations.

Yokohama Iceguard IG60.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(113 sizes from 135/80 R13 to 245/40 R20)
Speed index Q (160 km / h)
Load index 91 (615 kg)
Mass, kg. 9
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 54
Producing country Japan

Friction IceGuard IG60 is a new model. Traditional for Japanese tires The asymmetric protector demonstrates the average clutch level on the ice, but it provides a good balance in turns: there is no clear tendency to demolition or drift. In the snow, the traction abilities of the tires were pleased. But there are not enough coupling properties on the asphalt - especially on the wet. So the Yokohama IceGuard IG60 tires are more suitable for the depthion than for large cities. And prices will not scare away.

Nokian Nordman RS2.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(26 sizes from 155/70 R13 to 225/55 R17)
Speed index R (170 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 8,7
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 55
Producing country Russia

The materials are slightly simpler than Nokian, the tread drawing is borrowed from the past model Hakkapeliitta R. But in the final rating of Nordman RS2, only a little gave way to the "head" model Hakkapeliitta R3. And on ice, and in the snow - clear reactions, projected slides. On the asphalt coupling properties are slightly worse than Nokian, and irregularities are felt more clear. But after all and the price is one and a half times lower!

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(68 sizes from 175/65 R14 to 245/35 R21)
Speed index R (170 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 8,3
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 54
Producing country Finland

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 tires work luxuriously on ice - when slowing, even a characteristic rustling of rubber edges, clinging for micronether coating, is even audible. On acceleration and braking - the best results among frictional! But on the scattered snow, the indicators are modest. And on the pavement asphalt, Nokian is inferior to leaders and coupling properties, and comfort. So the recommendation is traditional for Nokian models: they are created primarily for suburban exploitation.

Prelli Ice Zero FR

Dimension 205/55 R16
(30 sizes from 175/65 R14 to 245/50 R19)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 8,8
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 48
Producing country Russia

It is gratifying that in Russian Pirelli plants on raw materials do not save: Ice Zero FR, produced in Voronezh, accounted for decent competition to the class leaders. And on ice, and in the snow - good coupling properties, but, unfortunately, rescued breakdowns in slip turns. Sports character! And on the asphalt, everything is worthy: Pirelli tires are divided with friction tires Continental title of the most quiet in our test.

Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 2

Dimension 205/55 R16
(29 sizes from 185/60 R15 to 245/45 R19)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 8,7
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 55
Producing country Poland

Three years ago, we recognized these tires with the best friction tires (AR No. 18, 2015). And now they are abolished on ice: they lost on the winding track only four studded models! In the snow, the directional protector works well in the longitudinal direction, but a little worse behaves in turns. But on the asphalt Goodyear is great! And in general, another worthy version of winter tires, relevant and in the city, and beyond.

Continental VicingContact 7.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(109 sizes from 155/65 R14 to 295/40 R20)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 9,6
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 50
Producing country Germany

Figure directional tread in a neat rhombission and looks beautiful, and it works excellently. Yes, ice results are slightly worse than the main competitors. But what is a chic balance between the indicators on the ice, on the snow and on the asphalt! Not a single puncture in the results. So, these tires are ideal for urban winter operation. Especially we recommend that their connoisseurs of comfort: the softest and most quiet tires in our test.

GT Radial Icepro 3

Dimension 205/55 R16
(17 sizes from 175/70 R14 to 225/55 R17)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 10,5
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 63
Number of spikes 128

Giti Tire company with headquarters in Singapore enters a dozen global tire manufacturers. The main factories of the company are located in China, but the development of tires under the brands Giti and GT Radial are also engaged in Germany and in the United States. However, the studded Tires of ICEPRO 3 is the last century of the tire industry. The protector is as if welded from summer rubber varieties: for ice and snow does not cling at all. And on the highway manageability, ride scary: Loss Test leaders with a kilometer reached 24 seconds!

Firestone Ice Cruiser 7

Dimension 205/55 R16
(19 sizes from 175/70 R13 to 235/65 R17)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 91 (615 kg)
Mass, kg. 10,2
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 60
Number of spikes 115
Speaking of spikes, mm 0,83/1,02

Tires Firestone Ice Cruiser 7 is a replica of Britgestone Ice Cruiser 7000 in Ulyanovsk. It is clear that they are not enough stars from the winter heaven: scarce coupling properties on slippery coatings require extremely neat drive - especially in turns. On many tires without spikes you feel more confident!

On the asphalt, the situation is somewhat better. But in general - we do not recommend.

TOYO OBSERVE ICE-FREEZER

Dimension 205/55 R16
(16 sizes from 175/70 R14 to 265/55 R19)
Speed index T (190 km / h)

Number of spikes 115

The new Toyo Tires company seems to and drawing a protector modern, and spikes with a curly core, and as part of rubber - crushed walnut shell. But something nuts do not help: coupling properties on ice mediocre, make the car turns not easy. In the snow, the situation is approximately the same.

But on asphalt on these tires, you can ride: the coupling properties are good and noise against the backdrop of other riding less.

BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK SPIKE-02

Dimension 205/55 R16
(43 sizes from 175/70 R13 to 245/50 R20)
Speed index T (190 km / h)

Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 61
Number of spikes 115
Speaking of spikes, mm 1,25/1,62
Producing country Japan

BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK SPIA-02 tire feature - a noticeable increase in spike departures as running and testing. At the end of the tests, some rose over the protector by 1.8 mm! But they kept hard - not a single empty opening even after a series of braking "in the floor" on dry asphalt. The main ride dignity is chic brake properties on ice. However, in the rest of the winter disciplines, there are no achievements, but on the tracks of manageability - the constant struggle with the demolitions of the front axle. And on the asphalt coupling properties and comfort indicators, alas, leave to desire the best.

Yokohama Iceguard IG65

Dimension 205/55 R16
(29 sizes from 205/55 R16 to 285/60 R18)
Speed index T (190 km / h)

Mass, kg. 10
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 53
Number of spikes 172
Speaking of spikes, mm 0,68/0,94
Producing country Russia

New studded Tires Yokohama IceGuard IG65 are developed by Japanese shinniki in cooperation with Polygon specialists Arctic Falls. Progress is obvious, but the speech of spikes is not enough, and the characteristics are poorly balanced. For example, Golf on these tires is well accelerated on ice, but it is very mediocre. And in the turns rides like a rear-wheel drive car - all the time in driving!

But on the asphalt these tires are one of the best! Including acoustic comfort. In the city the most - if your car has a stabilization system.

Pirelli Ice Zero.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(45 sizes from 175/65 R14 to 275/35 R20)
Speed index T (190 km / h)
Load index 94 (670 kg)
Mass, kg. 9,1
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 56
Number of spikes 130
Speaking of spikes, mm 0,83/1,09
Producing country Russia

Tires Pirelli Ice Zero of Russian production This season was not so confident as a year ago (AR No. 17, 2017). The reason for this may not be so high-quality misfortune: many spikes before the run-in responded over the tread less than a millimeter. And after running, these tires lacked aggression on ice - especially in turns.

In the snow, the situation is better. But on the asphalt, the main problem of Pirelli Ice Zero tires is a low-frequency hum in the speed range of 60-100 km / h.

Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arcti

Dimension 205/55 R16
(37 sizes from 175/65 R15 to 245/45 R19)
Speed index T (190 km / h)

And again, we did not wait for the change of generations of Tin Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctis, presented in 2012. Instead, goodyear ultragrip 600, designed to play the role of the "second plan" to play the market. And the aging flagship of the winter ruler from GoodYear continues to delight us with its tractor characteristics on virgin, excellent coupling properties on the rolled snow. But performance indicators - especially on ice - are still weak, and the characteristic tread root poisoning life when driving along asphalt.

Nokian Nordman 7.

Dimension 205/55 R16
(34 sizes from 155/80 R13 to 235/55 R17)
Speed index T (190 km / h)

Mass, kg. 9,6
Tread rubber hardness along Shore, units. 58
Number of spikes 128

Tires Nordman 7 - "Second Life" Tires Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7. Produce them on the same equipment as the Nokian tires, but from cheaper raw materials. On the ice Tires Nordman 7, having a smaller number of spikes, inferior to the test leaders, but in the snow behave canceled - along the loose powder row even better than Hakkapeliitta 9. But on asphalt work mediocre.

A good option of available studded tires for rustic operation. By the way, a warranty is distributed on Nordman tires: in case of unintentional damage, the dealer will provide the same tire for half a tire.

Gislaved Nord * Frost 200

Dimension 205/55 R16

Copying the first generation ContiCecontact tire protector, Gislaved Nord * Frost 200 tires are the perfect version of urban sinks: they are quite quiet in the "tobast" class and have a good balance of ice and asphalt coupling properties. At the same time, in the snow, the Gislaved tire is one of the best. Reasonable (read - inexpensive) option of winter tires not only for urban, but also for country exploitation.

Hankook Winter I * Pike RS2

Dimension 205/55 R16

Pre-production samples of new Hankook RS2 tires, who have been tested before the start of official sales, left behind Continental and Nokian on the snow-ice indicators - at a price of one and a half times smaller! Unfortunately, additional testing tests of Hankook Winter I * Pike RS2 dispelled the myth about their magical properties. So while we refrain from recommendations - wait for the explanation of the manufacturer and the results of the following tests, which will take part Hankook tires purchased through the retail network.

Continental Icecontact 2.

Dimension 205/55 R16

Continental IceContAct 2 on ice provides a minimal brake path, but on the winding track of Nokian HakkaPeliitta 9 allows you to go faster. But on the asphalt tires Continental quieter, and the spikes in them have additional fixation - the unique technology of hot vulcanization can not be mastered by any of the competitors' companies. Given the price of the IceContact 2 tire - a great choice! And on the approach, the third generation of this model is already the third year: next year, IceContAct 3 tires with rubber spike buildings will go into the series.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9.

Hakkapeliitta 9 with a tread equipped with two types of spikes, perfectly works on ice and in the snow - but on the asphalt gives the car with sluggish reactions on the steering turns and increased noise. So, for citizens, HakkaPeliitta is still suitable in the best way. But on the fact that Nokian tires are produced in Russia or Finland, it is not worth paying attention: both plants produce high quality tires, verified. You can learn the best price for this tire in your city.

Scrossing tires differ from the passenger reinforced sidewalls and the shoulder zone, because they often have to ride on the borders and roadside dials. Mondering that such tires dimension 215/65 R16 for small crossovers we have already experienced a couple of years ago by car Renault Duster, this time decided to rise to the size above. As a test machine, Audi Q5 took.

List of tested tires:

Rivals were picked up from various price categories. The most expensive in our sample are carriers of advanced technology ContiCecontact 2 SUV and Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV. Such cheaper than ten thousand rubles can not be bought apart. Michelin Latitude X-Ice North 2+ is slightly eight thousand. About seven and a half are not less famous "Cylinders" Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic SUV and Pirelli Ice Zero. And the most modest at the price of the Japanese Dunlop Grandtrek Ice 02 (6450 rubles) and Toyo Observe G3-ICE (6050 rubles).

All tires in front of the tests ran 500 km. And delivered straightforwards ... in hell. More precisely, "White Hell", as the winter polygon of Nokian, located on the shores of Lake Tammyarvi.

What did VBOX show?

Our measurement complex VBox cannot reach satellites through a thick layer of snow with a roof covering an ice accelerant straight (canopy need to save ice in perfect condition). Therefore, on ice accelerated dynamics and braking path we measured Dutron equipment with an optical sensor. For greater accuracy of the results, the acceleration time was depicted to 30 from 5 km / h, and not from scratch.

The fastest spiter, like the shortest braking path (C 30 to 5 km / h), Audi Q5 showed Nokian tires (2.9 s and 14.4 m). And in the outsider turned out to be Dunlop (overclocking for 4.2 c) and michelin (brake path 20 m).

All subsequent tests were carried out in the open sky, and the measurements were made by the VBox complex. At the ice circle, the best time Q5 showed on Nokian tires - 31.7 s. Two tenths are worse than the Continental tires - second place. And dunlop models more modest: 33.8 s.

Go to the snow and measure overclocking already from the place (from 0 to 40 km / h), but in two modes. First - without slipping, with an electronic "collar". Then - turning off the anti-test TCS system and the causation of all four wheels: let the four-wheel drive show what is capable of.

The results were engaged. In races with an inclusive electronics that limits the wheel slip, the best was the best and Pirelli - 3.3 s, the four opponents needed only one tenth more, another dunlop was lagging behind - 3.5 s.

Overclocking in the style of "gas to floor" turned out to be a little faster, and the places were distributed differently. The best time is on Tires Continental, Nokian and Toyo. And the slowest overclocking is again on Pirelli: the same 3.3 s as on the verge of slipping. That is, on these tires, you don't care how to accelerate - dirt or ruthlessly exploding snow. The first results on Dunlop and Goodyear tires lay down (3.2 s).

Estimates of experts

According to ice controllability, the highest score deserve Continental, Michelin and Nokian. Most complaints caused Dunlop tires: the delays in reactions and the rotation angles of the steering wheel increase, the low informativeness and long-side slides are accomplished.

Assessing coursework stability in the snow, the experts were conquered by the "rose" Pirelli: they were pleased with a dense, highly informative steering wheel and immediate reactions. A little less liked Dunlop, Nokian and Toyo. To the rest, however, the claims are also minor.

When evaluating manageability, conducted on a special snowy track, from the previous leading top three we recognized the Dunlop and Nokian tires. The rest breathe them in the back, and no one received serious comments.

But when evaluating the passability, the variation of the results was great. GOODYEIR tires we set the maximum assessment, which is extremely rare: Q5 has become a snowmobile, which is nicking any drifts. Nokian and Michelin allow you to very confidently not only to overcome the snowy virgin, but also to touch and maneuver in deep snowdrifts, and also confidently get back in your trails. Without weighty remarks, Dunlop and Pirelli were covered without delights. The crossover behaved in the deep snow in a deep snow: a Toyo tires: reluctantly tried, and only a latitude, and with the slightest slippery knocked down.

In addition, we put preliminary estimates on the smoothness of the course and the level of noise. The final results can only be summed up after asphalt tests that give correction for the worse.

Check spikes

After the "white" tests, we carefully examined the tires, the Mitutoyo special indicator checked the magnitude of the spikes, counted their losses during running and tests.

Limit speech spikes - no more than one and a half millimeters. Existing Scandinavian restrictions ("carnations" should stick from a tire no more than 2 mm) complied with a good stock.

And the losses are small. Continental, Nokian and Michelin have not sowed a single spike. Good example! Pirelli and Toyo missed one "carnation" from the front left wheels. Hordier's losses are two spikes, Dutlop - three, all of the same front left. Since each bus is at least 115 spikes, it is a good result.

And now - on the asphalt!

It was necessary to wait for the snow in the Volga region, the roads are dried and the spring wind will stop, which prevents the fuel efficiency to accurately. Only at the end of April - the beginning of May, it was possible to check the tires on the asphalt. We realized it at the AvtoVAZ polygon near Togliatti at air temperature + 5 ... + 7 ºС. This is a temperature threshold of seasonal shifting in any direction - from winter for the summer and vice versa.

The most gentle exercise for studded tires is an assessment of economy. We combine it with an expert assessment of the rate stability on the asphalt, as well as we specify estimates on the level of noise and smoothness.

Alas, the AUDI Q5 transmission does not provide for the drive mode only on one axis, because all the work was carried out in the all-wheel drive state. For the study of the costume, this is not the perfect option. Permanent four-wheel drive is more accurate, power circulating in transmission - levels the difference in fuel consumption on different tires. On the other hand, the results obtained in the process of road testing are most close to real in everyday use. We managed to catch an insignificant difference between tires on fuel consumption: the scatter was one tenth liters. We believe that there are no winners and defeated in this test.

But on expert assessments of the car behavior it is worth paying attention. According to the course stability, all furnished Michelin. At these tires, Audi Q5 demonstrated a clear adherence to a given direction, high informativeness and immediate reactions to the steering wheel - as if on summer tires. And the comfort of Michelin was out of competition. Tires are soft and quiet. To compare with them only Continental - but only by smoothness.

On the "opposite shore" turned out to be Goodyear and Pirelli - they were sufficiently competed between themselves in noise, vibro drive and stiffness. We could not definitely determine which of them is louder and tougher, both models are "good."

Finished the tests traditionally - braking on dry asphalt and wet. In the discipline "Slow out from 60 to 5 km / h on a wet coverage", the first place on the podium was divided by the Nokian and Goodyear tires, and when braking, he went from 80 to 5 km / h in Continental.

What will calm down the heart?

Surprisingly, the composition of the podium in the tests of winter tires of this season (of various sizes, studded and friction, passenger and SUV) the same. The winners only change in places. This suggests the strength and stability of leading companies - Continental, Goodyear and Nokian. This time, the first place in our test was taken by Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV tires, scored 943 points. They have practically no shortcomings, and what has become a reason for the easy door to the Mother Experts, ordinary drivers are unlikely to feel at everyday ride. However, one essential disadvantage of the winner still has - a high price.

At the second stage, the podium is located Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arctic SUV 4 × 4 with the result of 909 points. Tire-all-terrain So usually forgive the lack of comfort. It's nice that the price is not as high as the leader.

The third place with a margin of just six points from the second was taken by Continental ContiCecontact 2 SUV (903 points). These tires provide better grip and in the snow, and on dry asphalt. The shortcomings, with the exception of very small comments, is not marked. However, the ratio of price and quality could be more attractive - if the price was just below.

The Pirelli Ice Zero model scored 893 points and ranked fourth. These tires are worse than rivals inhibit on the snow, losing the winner of 10% in the brake path. But they can boast a very clear concerning the course on the snowy road.

The modest 880 points allowed Michelin Latitude X-Ice North 2+ tires to take the fifth position in our table of ranks. They have the most weak longitudinal grip on ice, but at the same time they endow the car with a clear and understandable handling. In addition, pleased with good course stability on any road (we recommend for long-distance trips!), High levels of comfort and excellent patency - you can safely jump onto the winter.

The category of very good tires (according to our scenario - from 870 to 899 points), the model Dunlop Grandtrek ICE02 was also fitted, earned 876 points. She has a weak brake properties on the asphalt (inferior to the leaders about 7% on the wet and a little more than 3% on dry) and the cross grip on the ice. But on the snow-covered road and the off-road Dunlop feels at home.

Closes the Toyo Observe G3-ICE list: the honorable seventh place and the title of good tires (861 points). Tires "intelligent", our drifts are not about them. Coupling properties on ice and asphalt are the most modest, but on the snowy roads these tires will allow you to feel confident. And, which is extremely important for any buyer, these tires turned out to be the best in terms of price and quality ratio. In other words, they are not as worse than the nearest rivals, how cheaper.

There were no triples in our sample. Until the last place - all the excellent and goodness. Gorgeous seven!

OBSERVE G3-ICE

2018-10-22 11:37:31

Until recently, it seemed that in German comparative tests of all-season and winter tires, except for the products of the Contintntal brand, there are few tires worthy of victory, however, the Fresh Test of the AUTO Bild Sportscars magazine put everything from his head. The coup was made by the Vredestein WinTrac Pro presented in the spring of 2018. However, about everything in order.

Soon the first snowflakes will begin to dance on the asphalt. And it will bring you a large dose of Positive only in two cases - if you are a pedestrian or if your car is already ready for the winter season. While there is still time on thinking in what tires to "shut" a vehicle, the German edition of Auto Bild Sportscars published a test in which ten winter models of size 245/45 R18 arranged for the title of the safest in high-speed movement mode.

The BMW of the 5th series was used as a test vehicle, with which all ten participants of the test passed a total of 12 disciplines on the snow, dry and wet surface. After running back again, we note that according to the test, three models received the verdict "exemplary", five were estimated at "good", the operational properties of one of the tires were delayed only on "satisfactory" and another one was out of total mass. The last expert group did not decide to recommend to exploitation in winter conditions.

In addition, in the 2018 Winter Shin Test from Auto Bild Sportscars in the amount of 245/45 R18 specialized summer tires were included Without specifying the model, the task of which was to demonstrate the danger of using summer autoresin in the winter.

List of tested models:

 • Bridgestone BLIZZAK LM001.
 • Continental WinterContact TS 850P
 • Dunlop Winter Sport 5
 • Falken Eurowinter HS01
 • Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Gen-1
 • Kleber Krisalp HP3.
 • Nexen Winguard Sport 2
 • Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3
 • Sunny Snowmaster SN3830.
 • Vredestein WinTrac Pr.

Test results

Snow

Good transverse coupling properties are one of the basic requirements for safe driving on snow-covered roads. Relatively inexpensive Kleber tires showed a master class of premium brand tires.

All the same Kleber Krisalp HP3 was the best when measuring traction in the snow. His traction effort is 15-20% higher than that of the participants of the test, which found themselves at the end of the final discipline protocol.

To obtain reliable values of the inhibition of winter tires in the snow, 10 races were carried out. The average value of all measurements went to standings. In this discipline, the Dunlop tires broke out, but the Kleber tires were not destroyed, losing only 0.4 m.

Incredibly, but the first on the snow-covered highway manageability came to the finish line again the Kleber tires. Considering that by the time the testers were already under a great impression of the tire's coupling properties in the snow, the time of passing the winding track convinced them in the fact that the Krisalp HP3 tires in the snow are out of all competition.

Wet surface

In this test discipline, the time of passing the irrigated circle was measured. The less time, the better the side stability of the tires - everything is logical. If you do not take into account the fact that the best result on the wet road was shown by summer tires, the best in this test were tires Continental and Vredestein, losing the smallest.

On the slippery wet highway the accuracy and speed of reactions to the actions of the pilots were pleased with the Vredestein tires, the result of which almost three seconds exceeded the indicators of specialized summer tires.

In heavy rain and in the presence of a melting snow on the roads, the aquaplaning creates large risks for safety. Bridgestone and Pirelli tires are recognized in the sustainability of this phenomenon. But only after summer tires.

Create good competition with real summer tires was under power turned out to be winter tires Continental WinterContact TS 850 P. Low value of the Sunny brand products resulted in additional almost seventeen meters of the braking path.

Dry surface

In conditions of significantly warmer recently, the Winter Specialized Winter Tires should effectively work including on a dry surface, not even loyalty to the fact that the design of their tread and rubber mixtures are "sharpened" to operate in the snow and ice.

The fact that today is to combine it is still problematic shows almost a 10% gap in the length of the braking path between the best winter tires of the discipline (Pirelli and Vredestein) and summer autoresine.

Such a situation has developed on a dry run of manageability, where the winter tires had to "sweat" in attempts to catch up with summer tires. Maximum close to the goal with a 5% lag were the brands of Nexen, Pirelli and Vredestein.

Winter tires 2018 test from AUTO Bild Sportscars showed that the highest potential of fuel economy possess the Pirelli tires, in comparison with NEXEN, their economy is higher than 4-5%.

The noise generated by tires when rolling along a specially certified asphalt surface was measured at a speed of 80 km / h. The quiet in the test was NEXEN tires.

"Preparing summer tires in winter, and the winter - summer," is a simple rule regularly helps motorists save time, money and nerve cells. Therefore, it's time to study our winter tires in 2017 and choose the same tires that are ideal both from the point of view of weather and temperature conditions and lifestyle and driving style.

Tests of winter tires 2017-2018 (driving, autores, ADAC, AUTO BILD)

Not to get lost in the abundance of names, stamps and brands will help tests of winter and summer tires, which each year spend a number of qualified organizations. This includes:

Club adac

ADAC is a serious organization, and represents the interests of German motorists for more than a century. The largest autoclub in Europe is engaged in checking car brands for quality and safety, and regularly conducts tire testing. To achieve high assessments of tire manufacturers in ADAC, they are difficult - their harsh tests carried out with a true German thoroughness are capable of keeping neither the bottom or tires from the tire. The usual results are "satisfactory", and rarely which tire is honored with the Verdict "Good".

The oldest Russian magazine dedicated to motorists and their iron horses. It is regularly testing popular and not very in the post-Soviet tire market in the heat and cold, and also conducts interesting studies like "how the temperature of the car's braking path is influenced."

Car enthusiasts from more than 35 countries of the world read licensed publications of the German AUTO BILD magazine. The magazine shows not only news of automotive sports and industry, but also comparative tests, test drives and, of course, tire testing in different interesting places - for example, in a small Finnish village behind the polar circle.

Popular Russian (and previously Soviet) Edition "Autores" regularly conducts comparative tests of cars at the landfill, crash tests on the EUROMETOD with its own independent rating, and also engaged in testing motor goods, ranging from fuel and ending with children's car seats. Of course, tires are also included in the list.

Winter studded tire rating 2017-2018

Since fresh rubber tests are held in the peak season, as a basis of the rating, we took Tire tests R14, R15, R16, R17, held in winter. When distributing seats, the list also took into account: the popularity of the model in Russia, evaluations, reviews and cost of tires on the Yandex Market service.

Despite differences in conditions, tests of the best winter studded tires 2017-2018. are carried out according to a similar method:

 • testing overclocking and brake dynamics on ice, snow, asphalt wet and dry;
 • the time of passing a certain distance on different types of coating is taken into account;
 • an assessment of the level of controllability of the car, its smoothness, and how risen is noisy.

10. GISLAVED NORD FROST 200

The average cost - 5,570 rubles.

Opens the 2017-2018 Winter Shipped Tire Rating The new model from the Swedish company Gislaved. The main highlight of a two hundred model is an asymmetric tread pattern and a new ultralight (less than 1 grams) spike in the shape of a three-beam star. In general, the rubber is quiet, soft, with good course stability, it is well held on any surface - the truth is, in the fresh snow and ice may require driving style adjustments. On a slightly icing track on such tires, you should not accelerate more than 100 km, otherwise the car will lead.

Price, on average - 5 982 rub.

The name of the tire says that its developers (the Russian company Cordiant) paid special attention to the tire behavior on the snow. The tread pattern is directed, the center of which is the edge of a closed form, which in the theory should significantly reduce the likelihood of aquaplaning in the snow. (Interestingly, by the way, that this very drawing is almost exactly copied by the protector of the third place of the ranking.) As a result, it turned out good tires at a budget price, which really rides in the snow. True, asphalt does not give her as good as the snow.

Averaged price - 8 600 rub.

Explicit progress compared to ICE 01 both from the point of view of course stability and reducing the noise level on the asphalt. From rubber of the average price segment it is difficult to expect the speed of response more expensive rubber, but its value of Dunlop SP Winter ICE 02 works out 100%. Advantages: High passability, very strong sidewall, excellent spikes, rowing in a snowy caress. True, it doesn't feel very well on the asphalt, and the noise is noticeably, and at a speed above 90 km / h causes increased fuel consumption.

Cost, on average - 6 670 rubles.

Good urban tires with the ability to feel comfortable in not too deep snow. It goes well on both asphalt and dense snow, noise within the normal range. It is worth noting that it is best to use this rubber in the middle lane of Russia, where temperatures are rarely exceeded -15 degrees. But the Siberians with deep snow and long-term frosts are better to think about a more enduring version.

Averaged cost - 2 410 rub.

NODMAN Series from Nokian is a more budget version of the famous Hakkapeliitta. Soft, comfortable, low noise rubber at a reasonable price, which this well feels like dry asphalt and snow. On wet asphalt, based on reviews, it is better not to accelerate over 100 km. A good option for urban residents in the "House - Work - Dacha" mode. Due to the soft rubber, it is difficult to leave the rut, and with curbs, branches and other sharp objects worth being attentive. But in general, an excellent option in terms of price / quality.

You can buy, on average, for 4 860 rubles.

If the previous model Top-10 is mainly intended for urban driving, then IceContAct 2 from Continental is best revealed on off-road. Perfectly feels at low temperatures both in the snow, and in Nastya or Ice, can take your owner from anywhere. A big advantage is a set of spikes (196 pieces). The roe from these tires is not heard.

But on the wet, frozle or snow-covered asphalt, it is necessary to exercise special caution. Also, not the best reviews deserved the "behavior" of rubber on the snowy caress, there it begins to scour.

It is proposed, on average, for 10 260 rubles.

Although the Eight is a newer model in the Hakkapeliitta tire line, it is slightly inferior in popularity with his predecessor. One of the main reasons is a very soft sidewall, as a result of which you will have to carefully select the discs and, despite the excellent passability, carefully choose the place of pokatushek. Otherwise, hernia and cuts. But this rubber is very predictable, has a large number of spikes (190 pieces) and perfectly goes on ice and rolled snow.

For sale, on average, for 7 100 rubles.

It differs from the eighth model with a smaller number of spikes (by 30%), but its hexagoned anchor spikes are longer and heavy. They use technology called the "bear claw", which prevents the slope of the spike, thereby improving the clutch. Silent, reliable, albeit expensive tires, which, despite the generation, enjoys a high reputation in motorists. It feels well both in the snow and on ice and asphalt, while standing down and strong. However, as the eighth version, Hakkapeliitta 7 has a very soft sidewall and it is felt with a sharp turn of the steering wheel.

The average price is 9 080 rubles.

And here is the new generation of the famous ruler. The fruit of four years of developers of the Finnish company, as stated, exceeds the characteristics of the "eights" by 5-10%. The biggest highlight of the new model is two types of spikes (although in general they are slightly smaller than that of the predecessor), which should improve the side clutch on a snow-covered or icing road. And changes in rubber will help the tire better feel at low temperatures. While the preliminary tests of the tires promise to be excellent, but chickens are considered to be - when the mass sales of "nines" begin.

1. Pirelli Ice Zero

On average, it costs 15,550 rubles.

No matter how paradoxically, it turned out that in the issue of the production of winter studded rubber, the Italians disassemble better than the inhabitants of the snow-covered Scandinavia. One of the "raisins" of the model is the original dual carbide stack of spikes, providing a tire excellent ice behavior.

Other benefits: High passability, good acceleration and braking indicators on snow and ice, high course stability. And endurance - there are chances of bringing tires to retirement with a complete set of spikes. Excellent, almost universal tires for winter conditions, well-feeling like on asphalt, and outside. True, the noise level is high enough. Yes, and the price is "biting".

What winter tires are better to choose in the end

So what winter tires are better to choose? The 2017 rating includes both "urban" types of rubber and tires intended for more severe weather conditions. Pirelli Ice Zero, Continental IceContAct 2 or Dunlop SP Winter Ice 02, are perfect for frequent road driving on-road, Temperature conditions, and coating for which you have to ride.
