The order of work.

Then, jack the right front wheel and jack up the engine.

Then we remove the wheel. We unscrew the four bolts securing the lower protective casing. We get access to the crankshaft pulley.

Then, in the engine compartment, unscrew the engine protective cover and four bolts of the upper timing cover. We take it off. On the camshaft drive gear and the old timing belt, put a marker with a timestamp. Then put it on the bottom of the crankshaft gear.

We unscrew the engine cushion bracket. We remove both the bracket itself and the pillow itself. It is generally not necessary to remove the pillow, but it is much more convenient to work in the future.

With a key for ten, we loosen the four screws of the pump pulley. We drive the tension screw of the generator and loosen the generator belt. In my case, it did not help, since the belt was not original and most likely smaller. I had to cut it with a knife.

Then, we drive the power steering pump housing. We also weaken the tension of the air conditioning belt. To do this, I first loosened and then removed the tensioner housing. After that, the belt is easily removed.

All belts have been removed. Now you need to unscrew the crankshaft pulley. In my case, the bolt stubbornly resisted and did not want to unscrew in any way ... I had to use an old drive belt. The trick is in the force of friction...

We take a long collar with a sufficient lever arm and when the belt bites itself, the nut calmly breaks off.

We remove the crankshaft pulley. In my case, he took off his hands. It happens that the pulley turns sour in the seat. Then you need to use special pullers. I'm lucky. So that in the future the pulley could be removed easily, he lubricated the inner landing part with graphite grease.

Now we have access to the crankshaft gear. We also put a timestamp on both the gear and the belt.

Then we unscrew the four bolts securing the lower timing case and take it out down.

On this, I will temporarily stop the part concerning the replacement of the timing belt, because further we will talk about replacing the pump.

Replacing the pump on the G4GC engine.

For normal operation of replacing the pump, no matter how much you would like it, you will have to unscrew and dismantle the power steering pump. With all the consequences in the literal sense of the word, the consequences in the form of dextron ...

It is also necessary to unscrew the fasteners of the generator power harness and take the harness to the side.

Then remove the tension bar of the generator, which, in combination, also secures the pump in two places.

It is also extremely useful to dismantle the engine cushion support bracket from the cylinder block.

When the bracket was dismantled, a terrible and tragic picture opened up ... A "prisoner" was walled up in an impromptu "cell" ...

It is sad, but in spite of the opened tragedy, it is necessary to work. Now nothing prevents you from unscrewing the remaining pump mounting bolts and replacing it.

True, there is a nuance. As it turned out, Korean engineers did not provide for the option of draining the coolant from the cylinder block. And at the moment of removing the old pump, coolant will flow from the block ...

When inspecting the giblets from the side of the block, a place was found with deposits of rye or something similar to it. Strange. The owner of the car says that he never poured water. So, the reason for the appearance of deposits will remain a mystery.

Therefore, I had to drill the inner pulley, pulling it together with the outer one.

After that, the pulleys calmly fell into place ...

We return to replacing the timing belt on the G4GC engine.

We count the number of teeth on the old timing belt and compare the resulting number with the number of teeth on the new belt. Doing this is a MUST! Because there was an experience when I put it without looking, but it turned out that the new belt had one tooth more than it should.

Then we count the number of teeth between the marks that were placed on the old belt and mark the new belt as well.

We put a new timing belt pulley on the block. We tighten with a torque wrench with a torque of 55N.

We set the crankshaft according to the marks on the gear at TDC on the compression stroke. We set the camshaft drive gear according to the marks. We put on a new belt, combining the markings that we copied from the old belt. So that the belt does not fly off with the gear, we fix it.

We put in place a new tensioner roller. We tighten it with a torque wrench with a torque of 55 N.

In my case, somewhere at a moment after thirty newtons, the bolt came off safely ...


The rest of the bolt remained in the block.

Basically, it's okay. According to the technology, it is necessary, along with the replacement of the roller, to change the bolts. Old bolts are fatigued and often break. So the situation is normal. But the whole gimoroynost of the moment is not in the breakage of the bolt, but in the fact that there is no room for manipulation to get the rest of the bolt.

After a couple of hours of throwing around the city, the new tensioner still stood in its rightful place.

Basically everything. A new timing belt is worth it. Both rollers have also been replaced.

It remains to put on new drive belts and assemble everything in the reverse order.

Which is exactly what was done.

At the end, fill in new antifreeze through the radiator cap. We pour without haste. A thin stream. For a long time. So we will let the air out of the block calmly. Top up the expansion tank at the MAX mark. Then, anyway, it evens out. And then you have to add a little.

On this, all work is completed. The car went for a test run. No shoals were seen. The oven is running smoothly. GUR topped up and pumped.
