Avoid being hit by a powerful collision. How to avoid a head-on collision with a car. Ability to overtake correctly

The traffic police published statistics of road accidents for the first half of 2013. The main types of accidents are collisions and collisions. Pay attention to the recommendations on how to act and behave when driving when an impact is imminent.

As a rule, a collision occurs when the car becomes uncontrollable and the human reaction is no longer enough to prevent an accident.

Many drivers in a stressful situation think, first of all, about how to minimize damage to the car, and because of this they make erroneous decisions, which sometimes turn out to be fatal.

The most important thing in an emergency is to save people's lives and health!

In the event of an inevitable accident, the driver needs to solve the most important problem in a minimum period of time: how to preserve life and health.

1. First of all, if possible, it is worth warning other road users about the danger, by giving a sound or light signal.

2. When inevitable head-on collision If you are a passenger and wearing a seat belt, quickly cover your face with your hands, especially your eyes. Yes, this is not a joke! This is what will help you protect your face and eyes from injury.

3. If in an emergency you are not wearing a seat belt, you must immediately lie down on the side of the passenger seat located next to it: this will avoid hitting flying dangerous objects. Many serious and fatal injuries are caused by impacts on the side of the vehicle.

4. If you are a driver, try to keep your feet away from the pedals: you may suffer from serious fractures of the legs and feet.

5. If you are threatened side collision, grip the steering wheel or handrail strongly with your hands, otherwise you may be thrown onto the car door or glass. At the same time, be prepared to take the necessary action depending on the situation: after a collision, the car may have to be leveled with the steering wheel, applied the brake, or something else.

Among novice drivers, there is an opinion that kicks from behind almost not dangerous, but this is a serious mistake. It is especially difficult in such a situation for those who do not have head restraints in the car: as a result of the impact, a person's head is thrown back, but since his body remains on the seat, this can lead to a fracture of the cervical vertebrae.

6. In the event that you notice a vehicle approaching from behind and realize that a collision is inevitable (there is nowhere to rebuild, it is impossible to move to the side of the road, etc.), put your hands on the steering wheel and be ready to change the direction of movement immediately after the impact, as well as use the brake pedal ... A collision can be avoided by sharply increasing the speed (if the traffic situation allows it).

7. If you are standing at an intersection and see that an impact from behind is inevitable, release the brake pedal (this will soften the impact), but press it immediately after the accident to prevent entering the intersection ( crosswalk) or collision with a vehicle in front of you. With all your strength, put your hands on the steering wheel, with your back against the back of the seat and press the back of your head against the headrest.

8. At the same time, press the horn button and turn on the hazard warning lights to notify others about the imminent accident.

We hope that these tips will help you and your family to stay safe and sound in a critical situation on the way.

Fuuu-xxx ... Hello ... The title can go on and on in different variations. At the end of the post I will post car accident - video about my first road from which I got out with the least losses, if we take into account health and life in general. Only today I more or less got away from this awesome stress. Upon arrival home - my heart ached, I had to drink a little at night.

I would like to know your opinion on this matter. Your assessment of what you see. I myself have already drawn conclusions for myself. Is it worth it to sue the road workers, although initially I wanted to make claims not to them? Or maybe I myself am to blame for all this because of my inexperience? Well, okay, everything is in order ...

What is the cause of the car accident?

What happened to me? On Saturday, my friend and I were returning in my car from a short trip from the region. Our city is located 100 km from federal highway... This track was repaired by the Finns 2 years ago and while it is still in good condition, whatever you say about our branch. No, her condition cannot be called a catastrophic summer, she is periodically patched up. In the Arkhangelsk region, we can say there are no roads at all, compared to ours. The year before last, my family and I went on vacation along these "roads". On the way back, as they were loaded, all the disks were bent. Somehow we got to the house with a quiet glanders, periodically pumping up the wheels.

There are 2 troubles in Russia, but am I a fool?

In the winter, we sprinkle the federalka with reagents, so it is clean at this time. Our regional road and the road in the city itself live without chemicals, which seems to be better for cars - it will rot less, but here it is covered with an ice crust all winter. The track on it in winter is constant, which greatly interferes with traffic safety. Who knows what a track in winter is and how car owners suffer from it - there is no need to explain. So now I don't need to explain this, since she played a cruel joke with me and my swallow. Plus, of course, my driving experience is not too great - only 2 years from the date of purchase, but still we went on vacation without accidents.

Well, now everything is over and you already think that it is good that everything ended this way. And it could have happened that this post would not have been published. Can you guess why?

I will not say that I drove without exceeding the speed, but if it was, then no more than 10-20 km / h. But if not for this damn track, if not for this, which seemed to me a hindrance, an oncoming minibus, then the accident would not have happened. And in this situation, I chose the lesser of evils and deliberately went into a ditch in order to avoid a head-on collision with either a mikrik or a grader.

Yes, graders clean our roads, but they cannot rip off ice and rut from the pavement. They clean off freshly fallen snow and prevent the road from narrowing - by clearing the roadside. Well, sprinkles occasionally come out onto the track ...

It was 14.25., Judging by the clock on the DVR. Coming out of the turn, first I saw this grader, which was walking, clearing the shoulder of the opposite side, then a minibus, which began to bypass the grader. And then I decided that I could run into this mikrik, that we would not disperse ... You know, you need to have nerves of iron so that, anticipating a head-on collision, do nothing, and go as I drove before, in the hope that the oncoming he will go away from collision with you.

And then I decided to secure my position on the road. I decided to get out of the rut and push closer to the side of the road, which led to a skid of my car ...

I know that when skidding front wheel drive car, you need to turn the steering wheel in the same direction and add gas to level the car. But I had neither time nor space for this. It was necessary to avoid the collision in any way. And this way and place was, of course, the ditch.

Damn, I've probably watched this video 500 times already ... Only 4 seconds passed from the moment the skid started until the collision with the snowy shoulder, and only 2 seconds I had to decide where to go ...

Once again, I will ask you - what kind of impenetrable nerves do you need to have so that in this situation, staying in a rut, you can just release the gas and wait for someone to drive around you? Maybe you will see in my video another saving way out, which I had to go?

Whatever you advise me, and it is always easy to do, and not say, I did what I thought was right. And in my situation, when I was already carried away, it was the most correct way out. If, if, if ... How many of these if you can think of. But everything has already happened.

Now I would have acted differently in that situation. But someone would not have been able to steer into a ditch at all and would have fallen under a grader, or kissed a mikrik. Now you think: here it was necessary to throw off the gas and slow down a little without leaving the track, expecting that an oncoming car would go around you. And what if it skidded during the maneuver? And then nothing would help you ... And I decided to play it safe, pressing myself to the edge of the road, but I was skidded because of the rut, so that it ...

Now I understand that on that day my friend and I were born again, or the Lord gave us a respite, or we have cool guardian angels with him. Because if we got ourselves into trouble, then I would be to blame - 100%. If 6-7 people were traveling in a minibus (I don't remember exactly. They stopped and inquired about our health), then if I had survived and there had been victims, I would have received a deadline ... If I had crashed into a grader and would have died friend - also the time is shining, the tractor wouldn’t exist ...

Somehow I’m thinking now, and when I came home and watched the video of the car accident, I thought that I was to blame for everything, drove the minibus, which, as it initially seemed to me, had gone too far to my side. But after watching the video many times and listening to the opinions of traffic cops, friends, strangers and not only people, now I think differently ... Now I thank God that we all survived and that everything ended so happily ...

Friends, I would like to post the continuation of my story in the following posts - don't be offended ... It's just that the post is too long, and search engines don't like it very much, and besides, I want to kindle a little interest in my story ...

This is a joke friends, but there is also some truth in it, as you might guess - it's about sparking interest. It just makes sense. The first part - As it was, the second -. In the third, you can describe what happened upon arrival home and what happened the next day, when people gave an assessment of my story, etc. Yes, you can write parts 4, 5 and 6, because after that there will be a repair of the car or it will not be. No, it will. Before the vacation, you need to repair it, otherwise after it the money runs out ...

That's it, that's it car accident video... It's short, about 20 seconds. What was before the skid and the moment of impact. By the way, maybe in the next parts I will post a video about what happened after the impact in the cabin, since the DVR camera turned and began to shoot the interior ... But I don't know if it's worth it ... I'll decide later, as this may affect the course of events, not in my favor ... Or maybe not ... You need to think carefully ...

Everything, look, and I am waiting for your opinions on this matter ... I do not say goodbye, your

    I looked. Let me summarize. I do not in any way make excuses for the dunce who stuck out into the oncoming lane in the turn. But after watching the video five times, I did not notice a decrease in the speed of your car. But in winter time When approaching a bend in the road, it is imperative to reduce the speed to a quiet one, because you cannot see the situation from the car, and always, I emphasize, you should ALWAYS expect it, with a right bend - it can take me out, with a left - it can take me out. And if you always remember this, then many problems can be avoided. I have been driving for 35 years, and for the last 30 years, after almost the same incident, I have followed this rule. And in general, if I see something incomprehensible ahead, not necessarily at a turn, the first thing I do is reduce the speed to such that, if necessary, quickly stop. The video shows that you began to turn too steeply, it should have been smoother (winter does not like sudden movements, acceleration, braking). And at a quieter speed, you could part way, jumping at least one track. Well, as it happened, it happened, and we should really be glad that everything ended so more or less happily. And remember that there are two troubles in Russia - roads and fools on the roads, and drive with this in mind. And most importantly, you need to learn to control yourself while driving. At first it will be hard to pull yourself together, but when everything is done automatically, driving will become much easier. And yet, the first years, especially from 1 year to 3-4 years, are considered the most dangerous. It seems that the AU is already, but the skills have not been worked out, so the people are beating. Well, that's it in short, that's all. I wish you from the bottom of my heart - not to get into similar situations anymore. Good luck on the road.

    I, of course, in my 16 did not drive, and even less experienced, but, as I think, the minibus entered the oncoming lane early, not making sure that there was no interference. But, which surprised me personally, you did not slow down either when turning or at the sight of harvesting equipment, and somehow too early you gave to the right, and it is not surprising that at a decent speed and on a winter road, the car was driven and carried to the side of the road. IMHO.

    No, Artem, it's not early. The DVR shoots with a wide-angle lens and therefore it seems that everything is far away. In fact, everything was close by and Alexey did not reach the grader 3-4 meters or even less.

    So I have been talking about this lately: “Alive and thank God, and the car is a real deal. What are wealth compared to human life? - Nothing! Gain driving experience and do not drive fast, especially in winter.

    The track is a terrible thing. Here, even 100 years of experience will not help. Everything was done right. Once the track at a speed of 20 km per hour just threw me to the fence in a split second. And another time, on a completely empty street (I was driving through the private sector in the city, it is practically not cleaned) at night, in the same split second, at a completely snail's speed, I was turned 180 degrees. and I drove in the opposite direction. Moreover, he did not make any movements with the steering wheel. I just drove one way, then the other way. The two passengers did not even realize what it was.

    And here the speed was all the same decent. Once, in a similar situation (you have a grader, and there was a bus overtaking), an oncoming Lada jumped out from behind the bus, and saw my car jumped into a ditch. True, there are no consequences. The slope is flat and there is a lot of snow. He rested like a pillow. Pulled out, there was not even a scratch on the car.

    Alex, hello. I will not tire with my arguments - there is a whole science of how to get out of a rut. And if you train yourself to get out of the rut, then neither speed nor turn will prevent you from getting out. Here is one of my old articles. Watch the video on how to get out of a rut. The main thing is that everyone is alive.

    Addition to the question.
    Unfortunately, there is no hope of paying for OSAGO, since there is no culprit (other than yourself) in your accident. Neither the grader nor the oncoming car is the culprit in the accident. In the rules road traffic it is said that when you see an obstacle, you should reduce your speed to a complete stop, and not change the direction of movement.
    The GOST does not say about rutting on the road. To classify it as pits is also not correct. And to the quality of the road, in in this case, it is difficult to make a claim - the road is being cleaned.
    Unfortunately you are right. This is in Russia, and in Ukraine, and in other post-Soviet countries - until the rooster pecked ...
    Everything we do is done with the hope of being carried over at random.
    Nobody here is interested in GOSTs. Nobody studies how to be in this or that situation. Aggressive driving style without brakes and belts is in vogue.
    You are doing well - everyone is alive. And they often turn to me after deaths for explanations.
    It is difficult to get compensation for bad roads in Ukraine, and in your case, there is no point in starting something.
    Thanks for the plugin.

    Yes, such an experience is an invaluable thing. Watching how others do it is one thing, but when you experience it yourself, it is completely different, it will be remembered for a long time. But all the same, it is better to gain such experience at the training ground, under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Another time, you may not be so lucky, therefore, caution, attentiveness, and most importantly, the ability to predict the situation virtually - in advance will allow you to drive for a long time and successfully. Once again, good luck on the road.

    Quite right, it's better to train at the training ground ... Now I will strictly observe speed mode, especially in winter…

    One of my acquaintances, a former traffic police officer, said this: "Remember and always follow the Three D Rule." What is this rule? Give Way to the Fool. It is better to give in on your own than to wait, hope and believe that someone else will do it.

    You must always be on the lookout, and slow down the speed when cornering in advance by braking the engine. And you didn't even try to slow down. I have on my website a selection of accidents for March 2013 and there are similar situations in one. True, the results are more deplorable.

    I watched the video, I wouldn't do that. Leaving to the left with crossing the oncoming lane is always the MOST DANGEROUS maneuver!
    The video shows that you fell into hysterics, began to wag. The car could be brought directly onto the tractor. It's a miracle that this did not happen. Going to "your", the left ditch is much safer.

    The accident, in my opinion, was not inevitable. If I were you, I would have thrown off the gas and pressed as much as possible to the LEFT side, to the snowdrift. A snowdrift would have delayed the car until it came to a complete stop, the oncoming car would have left a place to part, or, at the most, hit it casually. It's not as scary as a frontal strike, plus you wouldn't be at fault.
    When leaving to the left, you are ALWAYS to blame.

In recent years, there have been more and more accidents caused by the loss of control and driving into the oncoming lane of one of the vehicles involved in the accident. This can occur as a result of excessive driver fatigue, and due to an incorrect assessment of the distance necessary to successfully complete overtaking. What to do in situations when a vehicle appears in your lane? How to prevent a head-on collision?

Overtaking

According to the information provided by the traffic police service, the overwhelming number of head-on collisions on the highway arises as a result of one of the drivers' excessive confidence in the ability to quickly overtake a slowly moving vehicle in front. At the same time, the driver incorrectly estimates the speed of a car moving in the opposite lane, the speed of associated vehicles, optical effects that occur in conditions of insufficient visibility (fog), road conditions. All this leads to dire consequences. However, an accident can be avoided if the actions of the person driving the second car turn out to be competent enough.

Noticing a car moving towards you, you need to quickly assess its speed and the possibility of a safe overtaking. In case of doubt, it is recommended to reduce the speed, thereby increasing the distance available for the oncoming car to complete the maneuver. Such actions, for all their simplicity, often help to avoid an accident.

In addition, it will not be superfluous to notify the driver of a car who has left for overtaking about the presence of other vehicles in his oncoming lane. Often, especially at dusk, the car visually merges with the asphalt, becoming almost invisible. It is necessary to turn on the high beam for a few seconds, which will be difficult to miss.

In cases where the distance to the oncoming vehicle is already critically small, and braking is not able to provide the required distance, optimal solution is the exit to the side of the road. It is important to take into account the fact that the driver of the offending vehicle, having noticed oncoming traffic, can repeat his maneuver. Then the collision will happen on the side of the road. In order to avoid such a development of events, despite the critical lack of time, it is necessary to turn on the right turn signal. In this way, it will be possible to coordinate their actions with the actions of the oncoming car. If the turn signal turns on the offender, do not pull over to the side of the road. In this case, it will be enough to continue braking, reducing the speed as much as possible.

The dream of the driver of the oncoming car

A somewhat different situation arises in cases when the driver of an oncoming car falls asleep due to overwork. This often happens to drivers. heavy trucks- trucks. You can understand that the driver is asleep by the dynamics of the car's acceleration in the oncoming lane, as well as by its trajectory. At the same time, the vehicle does not tend to quickly leave the "oncoming lane", it can move unevenly, wagging along the road.

With a similar development of events, experts recommend trying to wake up the driver by giving sound and light signals. However, this should not last long. If the car continues to move in the oncoming lane, it is necessary to drive to the side of the road as quickly as possible, completely stop the car and leave it. All this should be done with a margin of time, to the moment when the car with the sleeping driver has not yet approached the critical distance.

It is not recommended to try to get away from an uncontrolled truck with the right sides, driving along its lane. This option is possible in extreme situations when it is no longer possible to stop, but there is a great risk that the driver will wake up when your vehicle is in its "blind" zone on the right. In this case, the awakened person will try to short time return to your lane, pushing or crushing a car located there.

Loss of control

Perhaps the most dangerous situation discussed in this article is the loss of control by the oncoming vehicle (skidding, steering lock), accompanied by driving into the oncoming lane. The danger is that the oncoming driver is unable to take any action to prevent an accident. It all depends on the literacy and timeliness of the measures taken by the second driver.

In such a situation, it is necessary to assess as quickly as possible the approximate trajectory of the car that has lost control. Further actions directly depend on this.

If the car in a skid enters the oncoming lane far enough ahead, there is no need to use emergency methods of braking and avoiding an impact. It is enough just to reduce the speed, and in some cases completely stop your car. As a rule, skidding does not continue over a large section of the road. Emergency vehicles are either regaining control or driving off the road.

In cases where an oncoming car starts skidding directly towards you, braking is no longer able to save the situation. Sharp acceleration will be much more beneficial, which allows you to get out of the zone of possible impact, while leaving the lost driver room to maneuver.

Situations when a car drives into the “oncoming lane” in the immediate vicinity of you require the fastest possible assessment of the situation and a competent reaction. Perhaps the only possible action here is a sharp departure from the blow to the right, to the side of the road. However, there is a risk of skidding when the right wheels of the car are already on the ground, and the left ones are still on the asphalt.

If a detour is not possible, avoidance of a head-on collision is carried out by driving into a side-by-side ditch (ditch). In this case, the exit, in order to avoid overturning, is carried out at the most obtuse angle.

In the early days of road traffic, a frontal collision of a car with another car, moving or stationary, or a static obstacle was by far the main cause of accidents with serious injuries and deaths. Now the speed of cars, their mass and number on the roads have increased so much that side collisions, rear impacts, and so on are no less dangerous. Nevertheless, a head-on collision remains the situation that road users deserve to be most afraid of.

An obvious answer to an obvious question

It would seem that there is no need to explain why a head-on collision is especially dangerous for road users, that is, the driver and passengers in the car. However, such questions often arise, so you need to formulate obvious, but no less true answers. A head-on collision is dangerous because it combines all the main damaging factors of road traffic accidents: a dynamic impact caused by an almost instantaneous stop of the car; injury from debris and vehicle parts; clamping of injured parts of vehicles and the syndrome of prolonged compression that occurs during a long stay in such a position; exposure of people to high temperatures and emitted gases in the event of a fire as a result of an accident.

So that is precisely why in crash tests of cars, that is, in experiments being carried out that test cars for safety in the event of an emergency, the main test is precisely a head-on collision. The most commonly used option is the collision of the test vehicle with a fixed concrete wall, which simulates a similar collision in real life with buildings, poles, trees and so on. In addition, recently, in order to obtain more accurate and detailed data on the behavior of car safety systems, the collision of two cars is increasingly being reproduced, one of which can be stationary or also move at a certain speed. Do not forget that fixed assets passive safety cars are aimed at protecting the driver and passengers primarily from a frontal collision. These are seat belts that reduce the risk of death in a frontal collision by 2-2.3 times, and about airbags.

Physics theoretical and practical

A curious theoretical controversy is associated with head-on collision, which has become especially popular in recent years thanks to the spread on the Internet. It addresses the question of whether the speed of moving vehicles is summed up in a head-on collision. That is, whether a head-on collision of two cars moving at 70 kilometers per hour is equivalent to a car hitting a stationary wall at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour. Actually, at first glance, adding the speeds of two cars is a pretty logical conclusion. But in reality, both calculations and experiments have shown that, other things being equal and strict parameters, in a head-on collision of two cars at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour, each car will be affected by the same amount of kinetic energy as in a collision with an undeformable wall at the same speed ... The fact is that in a collision, the energy is extinguished due to the deformation of the car body, that is, the resistance force comes into play. And in the case of two moving cars, this process is multiplied by two, which ultimately gives the same characteristics of a head-on collision as in the case of a stationary object.

But this is, as it were, the theoretical physics of a head-on collision. The practical side of the problem is of primary importance in how to minimize injuries to people in the car, when it becomes clear that a head-on collision can no longer be avoided. In this case, there are few tips, but they can save lives. The main advice is, of course, to comply with the rules of the road in the part that relate to the use of seat belts - for the driver and front seat passenger it is a matter of life and death. In addition, the airbags in a collision are deployed only when the seat belts are fastened. The rest of the advice is simple: if possible, try to move the car so that the blow hits on a tangent. In addition, the driver must keep his hands on the steering wheel and hide his face in them - which is important to prevent damage to the eyes and face in general. The passenger on back seat the task is different - it is necessary to reduce the area of the body that can be exposed to fragments and parts vehicle... To do this, lie on the seat sideways and cover your face with your hands.

Alexander Babitsky

A head-on collision is one of the worst road accidents that can happen to a driver. In the article, we will consider the different risks of a direct impact of two cars, we will describe the actions that will help to avoid an accident or reduce the consequences.

Ways of occurrence of danger

There are only two options for a head-on collision:

  • your car enters the oncoming lane;
  • the appearance of another vehicle on your way.

Each of the options can have different variations. The choice of the correct methods for avoiding collisions will largely depend on the specific circumstances. The reason for the appearance of an oncoming car in your lane can be either the driver's failure to comply with safety measures when overtaking, or the loss of control over the vehicle. In the latter case, the car skids towards the traffic flow.

The choice of actions depends on very specific factors:

  • the season, which largely determines the condition of the roadbed and shoulder;
  • the nature of the road section in which the danger has arisen;
  • traffic density;
  • vehicle speed.

But the main thing in this case is your driving skills, reaction speed, the ability to quickly assess the situation and choose the right actions.

What to do if a car rushes towards

Suppose you spot an oncoming car. At the same time, it was calculated that while maintaining the same speed, the driver would not have time to complete overtaking and there is a chance of a head-on collision. In this case, you need:

  • start deceleration immediately. You can only slow down sharply if you look in the rear-view mirror and make sure that there is no other car nearby. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting hit in the stern, which can provoke a loss of control over the car;
  • blink the driver high beam headlights. If the speed of movement is high, then it does not make much sense to use a beep. The driver of the oncoming car, most likely, will not hear the signal;
  • if the distance to the oncoming vehicle has decreased to a critical one, and the car continues to move in a straight line towards you, release the brake pedal and take one of the sides. This is possible when the driver falls asleep while driving, continuing to move in the oncoming lane for no apparent reason. To get away from the hit, you can take left or right. If there is no traffic on the opposite lane, you can go to the oncoming lane. In winter, this option is in most cases more preferable, since roadsides covered with snow can "tighten" the car, causing a skid;
  • if the driver begins to return to his lane, continue to reduce the speed. As a last resort, you can take to the left.

A mistake of some car owners trying to avoid a frontal impact is maneuvering towards the oncoming vehicle, which leads to an impact. Sometimes, in such cases, to avoid an accident, it would be enough to start decelerating and maintain a straight line.

The oncoming car drives into your lane

Quite a common situation, it is very difficult to get out of it unharmed. Much depends on the time allotted for the reaction. It so happens that an oncoming car jumps out into the forehead so unexpectedly that there is absolutely no time for a reaction. Most often this happens when, for example, a truck blocks the inspection of the oncoming lane.

If you notice from afar that the oncoming vehicle has begun to rock from side to side, immediately start slowing down. Unfortunately, in this case, a lot depends on luck, since it is very difficult to predict how the car will react to the driver's attempts to regain control of the situation.

It is important for you to maintain control over yourself and try to predict the trajectory of the car sliding along the roadway. The direction of movement of the vehicle, the state of the shoulder and the congestion of the oncoming lane will depend on which direction you need to maneuver.

Some drivers make the mistake described above, with fright directing their car under the oncoming "projectile".

If you fail to complete overtaking

Suppose that you misjudged the distance to oncoming traffic before overtaking. In order to avoid a head-on collision, you need to:

How not to become the culprit of an accident

In order not to provoke a head-on collision, adhere to several important recommendations:

  • do not overtake in front of bends, kinks or humps that obstruct the view of the next section of road behind them. There is a huge risk of sudden oncoming traffic;
  • refrain from overtaking in dense fog, heavy snow blizzards;
  • refrain from overtaking if you notice a vehicle pulling out of the adjacent road. Often, drivers only look to the left, not assuming the presence of a vehicle in the lane it plans to occupy. Therefore, this situation provokes a head-on collision;
  • always carefully evaluate the chances of successful overtaking. You must understand exactly the ability of your car, the coefficient of adhesion of wheels with road surface... For example, pressing the gas pedal too hard in a rear-wheel drive car can;
  • in order to reduce the time for overtaking, and, consequently, the time spent in the oncoming lane, do not start overtaking, emerging from behind the car in front. Leave some distance to partially pick up speed for overtaking in your lane. And only then, after making sure of the safety of the maneuver, start overtaking. When overtaking a truck, a difference of even 30 km / h will allow you to win a couple of precious seconds.

Roadside assistance

Drivers of heavy trucks often help to avoid a head-on collision. Due to the high seating position, they open best view on the road. It is important for you to navigate the signals that the driver can give you. It is especially important to know:

  • turning on the left turn signal - it is better to refuse the overtaking maneuver, since there is some danger ahead;
  • turning on the right turn signal - you can start overtaking;
  • switching on the alarm for 2-3 seconds - thanks for the help in overtaking.

If a blow is imminent

When there is no time to take rescue action, try to steer the vehicle so that the impact occurs tangentially. Before a head-on collision, we recommend:

  • press your elbows tightly against your chest, and close your eyes with your palms. This will help keep your eyes and part of your face from being cut by splinters;
  • move your feet away from the pedal assembly so as not to be damaged by the crushing motor shield.

Useful training for drivers

To better calculate the time of approaching objects at speed, there is a simple training method. Moving in Everyday life at a constant speed, try to predict the time during which your car or oncoming car will cover a certain distance. Use static objects as a guide. For example, road signs.
