Yokohama Ice Guard Stud IG35 Tire Reviews

Yandex Market

Regular model

Advantages: Price, tread geometry
Flaws: The main enemy is the track. Ice does not hold very well, a 40 km snow slurry goes into a skid easily and slipping at the slightest pressure on the gas on top of the usual one.
A comment: Inherited from the previous owner. I don’t really like the tires ... It doesn’t just push them out of the rut, but throw them out! Moreover, so abruptly that once I almost got into the bump stop. Doesn't like snow porridge and ice. On porridge it brings already 40 km / h, on ice it feels like a sled going down a small hill and trying to brake with your feet =) I do not recommend, mine should definitely be enough for the season, maybe more ... I will suffer

Great model

Advantages: It copes well with both ice and snow drifts, low noise level, competitive price.
Flaws: Not yet.
A comment: I bought a replacement Hankuk i-pike. Very pleased. The rubber is suitable for both the city and the country road. The Hankuk was noisy, clicked on the asphalt, be healthy, the same rubber just whispers. Apparently, sunken spikes play a role, which does not affect its winter properties. Braking is predictable. In two years he had not lost a single thorn, although everything happened. Hankuk after the second winter began to go bald. I do not regret that I took this model, four cylinders together with the installation cost 10,280 rubles. Recommend.

Bad model

Experience of use: more than a year

Advantages: Beautiful tread pattern, studs do not fly out
Flaws: Very soft, there is no directional stability, sharpness in turns, although the car is predictable. The main drawback is a weak sidewall, just a little - bumps immediately come out. Zadolbalsya in the tire service to carry them, despite the fact that in winter I travel a little. Doubtful grip. Operating experience below.
A comment: Cheap Yokohama, 8tyr. per set purchased in 2013. Parameters 175/65 / R14. Machine - Toyota AE101, front-wheel drive, automatic, 160 forces. For my meager experience in operating it (4 winters, of which 2 almost completely the car was in the garage), the total mileage of 5 thousand otsily. One of the wheels cut right through and deflated. Glueing is not an option, just a brew. On the second year ago, a bump came out, one might say spontaneously, tk. there was no visual damage - they reinforced and welded in a tire fitting, but the tubercle remained in this place. And on the third wheel there is a small bump, since it is not growing in size yet. I try to drive carefully, but it doesn't help much with our roads. You will still miss a hole or two. Regarding the grip properties on snow and ice, it feels like a car of 100,500 forces - you just give gas - grinds and does not go, perhaps too narrow. Due to the high profile and softness, the car sways decently, with your eyes you feel that the car is driving along the desired trajectory, and the body sways left and right relative to it. Rebuildings and taxiing, respectively, are also sluggish (this is on dry asphalt, you can't steer much in winter, you can fly away) Noisy, like any winter spike, has nothing to compare with your car yet. There is practically no tread wear, but with my mileage this is not relevant. Manufacturer - Philippines, just in case. Maybe some kind of leftist.

Good model

Experience of use: more than a year

Advantages: soft, paddles well.
Flaws: thorns fly out. second season 50% left by the end

Great model

Experience of use: more than a year

Advantages: Good grip, no problem for the second season.
Flaws: not found
A comment: Overall positive rubber feel.

Horrible model

Experience of use: several months

Advantages: On dry asphalt and on snow, brakes adequately
Flaws: Rubber with the function of auto-catapulting of spikes
A comment: There are no slats, the solid central strip does not hold on the ice at all, the thorns jump out. Now, if there is no ice, the cutting is good. But when the road is sprinkled with reagents and then not cleaned, you cannot drive on such a soapy mess: at turns at 20 km / h he strives to go to the oncoming lane. There is a review and a video on the drive, on YouTube, too, as I braked 50 meters from a speed of 50 km / h on asphalt (I experimented with a pedal to the floor)

Good model

Experience of use: several months

Advantages: Soft enough. Not noisy. The thorns are all in place.
Flaws: Under hard braking, it blows away slightly on ice.

What are the parameters for an ordinary car owner to choose winter tires? First of all, we are interested in the good grip properties of the tire on snow and ice, the durability of the tire and its price. It was for these parameters that I chose a set of Viatti Bosco Nordico tires in the size 225/65 R17.

The model, created at the Nizhnekamsk complex KAMA TIRES, was developed for quite specific tasks - to obtain a product with excellent consumer properties for reasonable money. It's no secret that tires of the Scandinavian type, and those just reminded me of Bosco Nordico, which are just suitable for the harsh operating conditions in our country, from well-known world manufacturers are not just expensive, but very expensive.

Yes, of course, if you are the owner of a brand new Range Rover or Mercedes-Benz GLS, then for you there is no such word as budget. More precisely, it exists, but it is simply not limited by such little things as the cost of new winter tires for your SUV.

For me, it was important to find reliable and inexpensive winter tires for the third generation Toyota RAV4, which would last at least 3-4 years. The car is operated in Moscow and the Moscow region in the mode "several days a week".

Considering that in most cases there is asphalt under the wheels in the metropolitan area, at first the idea came to choose the non-studded option. However, taking into account the icy entrances and exits from the yard, as well as small country runs, it was decided in favor of Viatti Bosco Nordico studded tires.

I must say that the tires were pleasantly surprised by their powerful tread and high-quality studding. We previously wrote about the manufacturing process of these tires, so there is nothing surprising here - Viatti are produced on modern European equipment, and they are initially adapted to Russian operating conditions. I especially remembered the rubber mixing workshop, which was put into operation in 2018. Everything is brand new, as if brand new!

Many car owners try to determine the quality of rubber by touch. If you use this popular method, then the Viatti Bosco Nordico tires have shown their best side - the rubber composition is soft, which means that the tread will not "tan" at low temperatures, which often happens with European tires of the so-called Alpine type. So there is confidence that the Viatti installed on the Toyota RAV4 will not lose their grip in any weather.

However, this has already been verified in practice, when the first truly severe frosts hit, and the rubber on our crossover remained soft (winter models from Nizhnekamsk were originally designed to maintain grip and operate in the temperature range from -45 to +10 degrees Celsius ). The rubber showed good adhesion properties literally in the first days of operation, when a lot of snow fell, and the courtyards did not have time to be cleaned. It was on this day that I had the urge to go out of town, so at first I slowly but confidently made my way along a deep rut between densely parked cars, even without a hint of demolition of the front or rear axle, and then no less confidently drove along the uncleared road to my summer cottage.

There was a fear that when driving on the asphalt I would be "bothered" by the rumble of the spikes, but after the first weeks of running in the new rubber, the clatter on the asphalt significantly decreased. We can safely talk about acoustic comfort, moreover, the model seemed to me almost silent when applied to a studded tire. By the way, the spike in Viatti Bosco Nordico is traditional - with a cylindrical carbide insert, reliable and tested by the best manufacturers.

Surprisingly, Viatti Bosco Nordico is a type of winter tire that gives you a feeling of confidence in your driving skills, although the price does not seem to be high. The tires both look impressive and, as it turned out, have equally impressive grip. Especially worth noting is the effective braking on slippery surfaces, which has already been applied several times, despite the fact that in general I drive extremely carefully.

However, the brand new Viatti Bosco Nordico, which is now in my Toyota RAV4, wants to go faster. Obviously, the handling has become better - the developed sidewalls perfectly hold the car in turns, even on snowy roads.

Considering all the listed properties of the tested tires and the unit price of 225/65 R17 a little more than 5 thousand rubles, this product can be characterized very simply - good value for money. As for other parameters, such as durability and strength, it will be possible to talk about this only after the first winter months of Viatti Bosco Nordico operation.

Car tire manufacturer Yokohama is renowned for the high quality of its products. The tires of the Japanese concern are installed on brands such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Lexus, Mercedes, Porshe and others.

Yokohama winter tires cost

In addition to the test results of Yokohama IG 65 winter tires, the model's popularity is also influenced by its price. As of 11/29/2018, the cost of the Japanese manufacturer's rubber is:

The cost of rubber depends on the point of sale and the range of services provided. Many sellers offer tire fitting and wheel balancing immediately after purchase.

In order to make the right choice of winter tires and not fall for a fake, you must adhere to several rules:

  • buy rubber at certified points of sale;
  • choose only the tire size recommended by the manufacturer;
  • make sure that there are factory markings on the side of the tire;
  • negotiate with the seller the terms of the guarantee and delivery of the goods (if necessary).

Ice Guard Tire Life

Yokohama tires are premium tires. They have a balanced rubber composition that allows it to remain soft at low temperatures and at the same time not succumb to strong abrasion.

Comfort tires for wide use

On average, winter car tires from a Japanese manufacturer last 3-5 years. The service life depends on many factors:

  • the number of kilometers traveled during the season;
  • driving style of the driver;
  • the quality of the road surface;
  • weather conditions in the region.

An important condition for the long life of rubber is also the conditions for its storage in the summer.

Yokohama Ice Guard IG35 - these tires are considered relatively affordable, besides, they attract with their big name. However, how good are their performance really?

In this article, you will learn:

Model overview

These tires are winter studded tires. Produced since 2010. Available on the market in sizes from R13 to R22. Possible ranges from 145 to 325 millimeters, and - from 30 to 75.

Thus, the Yokohama Ice Guard IG35 is suitable for a wide variety of vehicles - from a budget subcompact to a sports roadster or large SUV. Positioned in the middle price category.

These tires have a nice design. The central part of the tread is in the form of a "herringbone", which looks very impressive and gives reason to believe that Ice Guard IG35 will perform well on wet asphalt roads and in a slush of snow.

The shoulder areas of the tire are notable for their pronounced blocks - they provide good grip on ice and snow, and also demonstrate stability in turns.

Strengths

The Yokohama Ice Guard IG35 performs well on icy roads, showing sufficient grip and predictable steering responses. Exchange rate stability is good. The braking performance is also good, as is the tractive effort.

Additionally, it is worth noting the low noise level, both on a snow-covered road and on asphalt. At the same time, on a wet asphalt surface, there is a good resistance to aquaplaning.

Weaknesses

Despite the big name, the tire's behavior on a snowy road is rather mediocre. Traction effort is not outstanding even on packed snow, and braking efficiency is comparatively low.

Early and abrupt drifts can occur when cornering, and the steering wheel becomes uninformative. In standard modes, the steering wheel reacts with some delay to turns. It is better not to drive into deep snow on Ice Guard IG35 - they can bury themselves even with an insignificant layer of snow and skid a lot.

As for the asphalt pavement, you should not expect anything special here either. With a leisurely ride, the behavior of the tires is predictable, but with an active one, you can note low steering sensitivity, strong yaw at high speed and drift in corners. In this case, braking may seem unimportant, as well as the smoothness of the ride, even on small bumps.
