Compared to the G073 model, the brake path on ice was reduced by 23%, 5% lower resistance to rolling and more than 2 DB reduced noise level. The tire is available in 20 sizes with planting diameters from 16 to 18 inches.

The preparation of the car to the winter season is the responsible business, and it is necessary to approach it as serious as possible, especially if there is a question about buying tires for operation in conditions with the predominance of snow and ice coatings. In this case, only studded tires will help, and so that buyers are not mistaken with their choice, road tests are needed, organized in the "combat" setting.

To the cold season 2016-2017, we spent the test of winter studded tires on one of the polygons in the northern part of the earth hemisphere, where the real winter reigned. For testing, a typical medium-sized car was chosen (D-segment for European classification), for which twelve relatively available tire sets with dimension of 195/65 R15 were selected (it is most often found at low-cost foreign cars and domestic production cars).

Eight test participants fit into the pricing policy from two to three thousand rubles, but among them a very differently discovered company came up:

  • The Chinese tires of the TRIANGLE ICELINK and the updated Cordiant Snow Cross, and the most expensive Cordiant Snow Cross, and the most expensive - Hankook Winter I * Pike RS +, "suspended" on themselves 170 spikes, and a novelty for winter 2016-2017 in the face of Dunlop SP Winter Ice 02.
  • The "middle peasants" were Matador Sibir Ice 2, Toyo Observe G3-Ice, Pirelli Formula Ice and Nordman 5.
  • In addition, four sets are not available to the test, but from that not less successful tires in Russia - Michelin X-Ice North 3, Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic, Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 and Continental ContiCecontact 2.

It is also worth noting that half of the "subjects" are produced in our country, thanks to which there are acceptable price tags.

At the polygon, the studded tires passed the entire complex of snow and ice exercises at -20 to -2 ºC. True, due to the lack of a dense, the rolled snow failed to perform the rearrangement, but it turned out to estimate the handling immediately on two tracks - both snowy and ice.

The tests started with the methodical measurements, and on each set of tires took place six to eight races, and in some cases all ten due to the "jumping" results. At the same time, checking the condition of the coating using basic tires was carried out after every two or three sets of "riding".

The first disciplines faced by all test participants were overclocked and braking on a snow coating with anti-duct and anti-lock systems included, which do not allow the wheels to slip when accelerated and blocked during deceleration.
When overclocking from 0 to 40 km / h, the championship captured Cordiant, Formula and Nokian, who were able to meet in 6 seconds, and the outsiders became Toyo, giving the Leaders at once half a second. It was such a high-speed interval that was used to measure time for the following reasons: from scratch - to exclude the "hanging" of tires when starting, and up to 40 km / h - because to this figure you can accelerate on the first gear.
When braking from 40 to 5 km / h (not until a complete stop in order to exclude interference in ABS), the situation has changed somewhat, and Michelin tires were made in the best way (with them the car was removed at 16.2 m), and the worst became Chinese Triangle (20.7 m).

The same procedures were carried out on ice, but only with another ending point of overclocking and initial braking (30 km / h). Yes, and the overclocking time began to be fixed not from scratch, but from 5 km / h due to the use of equipment with an optical sensor instead of the instrument with the GPS module. After each measurement accounted for a slightly removal of the car on clean ice, since the fine ice crumb, carved by spikes, reduced the friction, thereby not allowed to show the exact numbers.
The best time at acceleration on ice was shown by Nokian, whose time did not exceed 4.5 seconds, the second place was awarded Continental with a lag at 0.3 seconds, and "in the tail" was flew Matador (as many as 7 seconds). Braking did not make any changes to the list of leaders and outsiders.

The final exercise in measurements is determining the time to overcome the ice circle, where on each set of tires it was necessary to do a large number of repetitions. And here the upper positions on the "podium pedestal" were taken by Continental and Dunlop, who beat all the competitors.

The next test cycle started with an assessment of the behavior of a car moving along a snowy road at high speed, for which the playground of the width of about 15 meters and a length of about half a kilometer was involved. Such a route did not just allow to check the clarity of rectilinear movement at a speed of 90-100 km / h, but also to produce soft rebuildings from one band to another and imitate the separation of the barrier.
The most confident behavior of the test car demonstrated on the "chip" Goodyear, Cordiant and Nokian, while the Matador tires have been revealed wide and low-informative "zero", solid corners when turning the steering wheel when the course is edited and delays in reactions to the "Barank". Chinese Triangle, despite the low informativeness of the steering wheel, pleased with their clarity, for which they got a plus in the piggy bank.

Much more interesting was the following exercise - driving on a closed track with snow cover, turns of various steepness and small descent and lifts, perfectly imitating Russian roads.
But if the outsider remained the same compared to the previous discipline, the leaders changed - a car, carved in Cordiant Tires, Nokian, Hankook and Toyo, distinguished by clear reactions and predictable behavior even during driving.

It is equally important for winter tires and handling at a very long coating, so it was this test that turned out to be next to the queue, and for its incarnation, a track with high-speed and slow turns were used, as well as short and long straight segments.
With the "Half" on the ice, the Cordiant, Hankook, Nokian (they were the most successful and in controllability in the snow) and Nordman, who demonstrated a clear behavior and quick reactions, while in the angroup due to poor informativeness of the steering wheel And the unexpected breakdown in the skid was pleaded by Goodyear.

But to check the passability perfectly approached the snow with a depth of a little more of the road lumen, which allowed to install how much the machine, shocking in those or other tires, simply and clearly starts from the place, is controlled and selected in its own tracks if it is stuck.
And here for the previous fiasco, the Goodyear tires completely played, on which the car more than confidently moved along the deep snow, while the Chinese tires triangle did not determine the case at all.

After testing with snow and ice, it is time to find out - all the spikes remained in place. And the highest reliability was shown by Continental and Formula, who managed not to lose a single "carnation", but the outsiders were Cordiant, Dunlop and Hankook, who lost ten, thirteen and fifteen spikes, respectively. MICHELIN, NORDMAN and NOKIAN tires were honored with "good", without being consistent with two claws, and Goodyear, Triangle and Matador were forced to part with three-four spikes. As for Toyo, they losses amounted to seven "carnations" - not the best result.

One snow-ice exercises did not limit itself, because any car shoes (even studded) from time to time it is necessary to operate on the asphalt. Moreover, such tests were carried out at more favorable weather conditions, when the asphalt is already dropped, and the air temperature ran out from 4 to 7 ºC. And after all, it is about such conditions that reign at the turn for the seasonal shift "shoes".
The first thing all the subjects were measured by fuel consumption, and immediately before measurements on the warm circle, the term stability and level of comfort (noise and smooth stroke) were estimated on roads with different coating.
Nokian, Formula and Nordman became the least "voracious" on urban and country speeds, and the worst figures showed Cordiant, even with a very small difference (only 200 ml of gasoline on the "hundred"). With a course resistant at a speed of 110-130 km / h, the MICHELIN tires were best in them - the car washing in them distinguished himself with a clear holding a given trajectory and soft rebuilding. But in "catching up", the triangle was found: here and the informativeness on the steering wheel is missing, and "zero" is wide and smeared, and to maintain the direction it is necessary to work "Barank" to solid corners.
For noise, all the subjects are approximately at the same level - each of them rustles the asphalt by the screen. And if you take into account the smoothness of the stroke, then the continental, hankook and michelin have proven here better.

The final exercise for all tire sets was braking on wet and dry asphalt, which was produced from speeds 60 and 80 km / h to 5 km / h (in order to exclude ABS intervention).
The smallest distance for a slowdown on the wet coverage was needed to "rose" Continental (19.8 m), while Dunlop and Cordiant have returned further than all (22.4 and 22.5 m, respectively).
On a dry road, tires triangle (31.6 m) felt more confidently, and the worst results were demonstrated by Cordiant (35 m).

The first line of the test was obtained by Tires Nokian HakkaPeliitta 8, which distinguished themselves with good performance in all exercises, and followed by Continental ContiCecontact 2. By and other, the other tires have only one disadvantage - high cost. "Bronze" left Tires Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic.
