Therefore, the rest of the tests, including off-road, decided to organize an ocean at the Continentaleal landfill in the US state of Texas. There are many asphalt tracks of different quality, watering platforms, and also primers, gravel and sandy roads. In general, everything you need!

Having consistently, it was chosen for testing the tire dimension 235/65 R17, suitable for most medium-sized osses, with the type H / T (or HT) - the so-called asphalt tires, the most massive, occupying more than 80% of the Russian crossover tire market. The remaining part shares mud (M / T or MT) and universal (A / T or AT).

What should be unable to include in the test program besides our traditional asphalt disciplines? Of course, longitudinal aquaplaning and light offrooud. After all, even on purely highway tires HT, the owners of crossovers sometimes leave for sand or wet grass, go through primers and gravities. And in real dirt asphalt tires decided not to drive - they are helpless there.

The main carrier of the tire was assigned Volkswagen Touareg.

On stand

At the Polygon "Conntom" located near Hannover, there is no section with off-road, but here a unique laboratory with expensive equipment, allowing you to quickly and with a minimum error to receive many interesting results, imitating real tests. For example, you can estimate the tires to rolling resistance. Usually we conduct similar tests on the road, determining fuel consumption. At the booth, this work can be carried out faster and with a smaller measurement error, the benefit of the technology has long been worked out.

The technique is as follows. Our subjects have load indices 104 and 108. Weiently focus on index 104, which means an extreme load of 900 kg. When tested on rolling drum drum, the wheel should be operated by the clamping force, which makes up 80% of the permissible, is a non-accumulative calculation 7063 N. Continental tests usually determine the tire resistance on the stand only at a speed of 80 km / h. We are working in our tests with two limits of speed - urban (60 km / h) and country (90 km / h). I had to ask Germans to rebuild the standing programs for the "Our" speeds.

On the stand, it was not rolled in one bus of each model, but two - and calculated the average value to level the possible variation of the results. The lowest rolling resistance was shown by Michelin and Yokohama - and the lower resistance, the less fuel consumption. More than the rest resisted Hankook.

On the roads of "Contidrome"

Scrapping tires on straight was also evaluated on the "continier" - in order not to spend time at this time in Texas. Amarok spoke with a tire, whose transmission was forced into the rear-wheel drive mode.

The best result was Pirelli tires: 92.6 km / h. A little earlier, goodyear tires (91.9 km / h) and Hankook (91.5 km / h) are populated. In Outsiders - Michelin (87.2 km / h) and Continental (87.6 km / h km / h).

Hi, Texas!

Multiple flight through the ocean, and we are in the south of North America, in Texas. Here, near the small town of Julande (Uvalde), almost on the border with Mexico, on the corporate polygon of the Continental we conducted the rest and, perhaps, the main part of the tests. The temperature during the tests rose to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 27 ºС). It is hot for people, but perfect for tire tests.

We work in parallel on two cars. On Tuareg, we begin to evaluate the course resistance at high speed. To do this, use a small high-speed ring. We draw attention to the clarity of the car reactions when adjusting the direction of movement and soft rebels to the adjacent strip. We take into account all the nuances of the behavior of the car. At the same time, you fix how easy it is clear to control the taouareg in such modes, we estimate the angles of rotation of the steering wheel and the informativeness of the steering.

Of course, do not forget about the inner noise and smoothness. For this, in addition to the high-speed rings, we use special roads with artificial pops and other irregularities.

More than others in the course stability liked the Nokian bus - it is on them that the taguega is the most dense, highly informative steering wheel and very clear reactions during infringement. But comments arose to Bridgestone's tires: on the straight of the car, the battered cars became unpleasantly empty and non-informative, and when the course is adjusted and change, it rotates almost without resistance, as the steering wheel at the boat. And since the reactions are fast, such an empty steering wheel is easily mistaken to more than necessary, the angle. By comfort against the rest of the rest, a quiet and soft michelin is highlighted. Only Hankook can compete with him in "silence".

Wet

And now - braking on the asphalt, covered with a half-and-and-andded layer of water. Modes - as when testing passenger tires according to the method of SR. Having learned that you can check the braking on two coatings, agree with joy. After all, for the first time, the ability to compare the tires on the asphalt of different quality are slowed down.

Results We got damn curious. On the wet asphalt with an average clutch coefficient (almost like on Russian roads), the best results showed Goodyear - 33.5 meters. Continental managed to lose him almost half meter: 33.9 meters. However, on a smooth coating with a good "holder" of Continental with a result of 24.2 meters, it ran into the leaders, and Goodyear was only fourth (25.5 m), skipping the Nokian and Hankook tires. Stable worst results on both coatings - MicHelin tires (46.6 and 28.1 m, respectively) and Yokohama (48.6 and 31.4 m).

It comes a turn "wet" rearrangement. For this exercise, use the so-called short rearrangement: the width of the bands 3.5 meters, the change of the strip is carried out on a length of 12 meters long. The entrance corridor - under the width of the taguega, so that in each race there is a car on the same track: thereby decreases the measurement error.

In this exercise, all the Nokian tires were ahead: to them Touareg showed the highest speed - 67.2 km / h. Nothing amazing: these tires are traditionally strong in the rearrangement. Surprise caused Hankook, giving the Finnish-Russian product only one tenth: its result is 67.1 km / h. Closed the top three of the best Michelin, and with a big lag from leaders: 61.4 km / h.

But the maximum rearrangement rate is only one indicator that does not give a complete picture. It is important and what efforts it would require this exercise from the test: if seven sweat fell from it, the usual driver will face difficulties in much smaller speeds. That is why we also evaluate the handling on the rearrangement. And the best evaluation for reactions and behavior during extreme maneuvering is obtained by four tires - Continental, Goodyear, Nokian and Pirelli; Each we gave eight points.

Favor of fate "wet" rearrangement was performed on asphalt with a high clutch coefficient. Watering systems worked only on this site, and we could not disable them for the "dry" exercise. It had to be performed elsewhere, with more slippery (the clutch coefficient is lower than on the wet), albeit dry asphalt. That is why the speed of rearrangement on the wet coverage was higher than on dry. Wanting at least partially compensated for this shortcoming, we introduced an additional exercise - we decided to check the handling on the specialist, which by configuration repeats the similar path in the German "Conntomer". Here our estimates almost do not differ from those that were put up for the rearrangement. More than others liked Nokian tires - nine points for the most delicious handling: immediate reactions and clear, well-projected behavior even in slip, and their initial phases are very well felt. And the most stable in terms of manageability turned out to be tires Continental and Pirelli: only they earned the same estimates (for eight points) and on the rearrangement, and on the control chart.

Dry residue

Go to completely "dry" exercises. First braking. At the beginning of the measurement, the speed is 100 km / h, we complete at 5 km / h. The brakes are cooling after each braking, making a circle on a three-minute high-speed road, because Touareg is a heavy car and in braking with high speed brakes heated greatly.

And again we perform a trick with two coatings. First check the brake properties of the tires on the coarse asphalt, then on the smooth. The shortest brake path on both Touareg coatings demonstrated on the Continental tires (38.8 and 39.2 m); Behind everyone, as in the "wet" tests, were michelin (42.6 and 45.5 m) and Yokohama (43.2 and 45.8 m). But intermediate results starting from the fourth, showed that not all tires have the same position in the braking rating on different coatings. For example, by Bridgestone on the coarse asphalt the sixth result, and on the smooth - the fourth.

We repeat the rearrangement: the same dimensions, methods, cones, car and driver, only asphalt - dry. Once again I remind you that the clutch coefficient on this dry asphalt was less than on the wet on the other site. For this reason, the speed on the dry rearrangement was slightly lower. These tests we spent in parallel with asphalt, since there were two sets of tires of each manufacturer. Ams decided to spend his latest test at the Sunny Italian south, however, when the tires were delivered to the place, the sun disappeared, and shower fell on the region. The best handling on the wet track was demonstrated by the Continental tires, whose excellent performance was only a little durable relatively weak resistance to transverse aquaplaning. Goodyear, Nokian, Falken and Michelin also do not save during the rain, and BRIDGESTONE AND TOYO even be behind, but not so essential.

If this test was over, Continental, Goodyear, Pirelli and Michelin would fight for victory, but environmental characteristics also exist and first of all rolling resistance affecting fuel consumption. Efficiency is difficult to combine with a good clutch on a wet road, so engineers always have to go for some compromise. If you do not count the goodyear with the "B" rating, everyone else on the labels for rolling resistance was the estimate of "C", but the marking does not give a complete picture, since the legal limits of admission can be wide enough.


AMS conducted his tests using two separate dynamometers, and the tests have shown that only between tires with a rating "C" differences can already be up to 20%. Regarding the results of this test, AMS noted that such discrepancies are a consequence of both the blurred classification requirements and the fact that the manufacturers themselves are exhibited by their tires, and the effective control over the accuracy of information on labels does not exist so far.

In general, if you need tires for the sport style driving, and the efficiency of fundamental importance does not have, then you can choose the Pirelli tires.
