What is the difference between the Skoda Octavia A5 and the A5 FL. Skoda Octavia A5 reviews from owners The cars had engines before restyling

For a long time, most Russian car enthusiasts have fallen in love with cars belonging to the golf class. The origin of the Skoda Octavia A5 was no exception. The history of this model began back in 1996. For twenty years, the level of demand for it has never decreased. The company has always provided consumers with a car with an optimal price-quality ratio.

In 2004, the second generation was introduced. This car made a good impression on the experts. They confidently stated that such well-known models as the Ford Mondeo, Renault Laguna, and Volkswagen Passat now have a serious competitor in the Skoda A5. "Octavia" II with updated characteristics immediately took a leading position in almost all markets in the world. Particularly popular came after the presentation of the modernized model. Its presentation took place at an exhibition in Paris in 2008. Car enthusiasts were able to appreciate not only the design, but also the technical equipment. They were pleased with the changes in the gearbox and the introduction of new engine models.

Exterior

The external features of the car do not evoke any strong, obsessive feelings. Smooth lines, on the contrary, look very calm, and this is what attracts the attention of most people. The hood of the A5 Octavia has several ribs, and together with the new radiator grille it gives the car unprecedented power. The updated optics now move smoothly back. This performance evokes a special individuality and attractiveness.

If you look at the car from the side, the large hood immediately catches your eye. The window sill line is neat, while the correct calculation of the domed roof allowed the manufacturer to achieve a convenient location for all passengers in the cabin.

Dimensions

The length of the Octavia A5 was 4569 mm, the width of the car was 1769 mm, and the height of the updated sedan stood at 1462 mm. The ground clearance is quite acceptable for driving on any type of road, it is 165 mm.

Salon overview

In terms of internal features, the Skoda A5 Octavia is fully consistent with cars produced by the Volkswagen concern. The simplicity of the interior goes well with the high quality of finishing materials. The driver will undoubtedly enjoy the large number of settings for the seats and steering wheel. In addition, the new dashboard has a pleasant backlight. A large number of control systems allows you to fully enjoy the car on the road. All elements are located within reach of the hand, while buttons responsible for multimedia and cruise control are installed on the steering wheel. Going on a trip with five people will be an easy task for the car, because the interior is spacious, and the luggage compartment of 560 liters will allow you to take all the necessary things with you.

Technical tuning

The Skoda Octavia A5 is quite well equipped in terms of technical equipment. As for the installed units, the manufacturer did not skimp here. As a "filling" you can install engines with a volume of 1.4 to 2 liters. Moreover, each of them is thought out to the smallest detail and brought to perfection, due to which they will demonstrate quite acceptable performance on the road.

The most popular engines are 1.4 and 1.8, belonging to the TSI family. In addition, this line has a powerful version of the 2-liter engine. The consumption of the 1.4 diesel engine is 7 liters. Among gasoline units, the most popular, in addition to the city 1.4, is the 1.6-liter unit. Both manual and automatic transmissions can be installed on a car. The manual transmission is available in 5 or 6 speeds. The automatic transmission is also divided into two types: a DSG robot and a regular 6-speed gearbox.

The Skoda A5 Octavia is equipped with an independent front suspension with an additional anti-roll bar and a multi-link system at the rear.

Photos of Skoda Octavia A5 and A5 FL;

— what are their differences;

— a couple of photos with tuning of both models;

This question still remains popular both among car owners themselves and among car owners of other brands.

I don’t have the opportunity to take and compare two cars a5 and a5 FL live, I collected information from different sources. Everything is copy-paste, and all this can be found, but in the form of long articles.

Here I just did it briefly and in one place. Add in the comments if anyone knows more.

The main differences between the Skoda Octavia A5 and the A5 FL

Skoda Octavia A5- C-class hatchback, produced since 2004. Production of the model started in 1996. This car comes with petrol and diesel engines ranging from 1.6 to 2 liters, transmission - 5-speed or 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with manual shift function. The car has front-wheel drive.

In 2008, the Skoda Octavia II was completely restyled. Not only the interior, but also the exterior, especially in the front part of the body, was redesigned. There is also a new engine - a 1.4-liter petrol TSI, and a 7-speed robotic automatic transmission for 1.4 and 2.0 petrol engines.
In 2005, a sports version of the Octavia A5 with the “RS” index was released for fans of an aggressive driving style with improved technical characteristics.
In 2007, the Skoda Octavia model range was replenished with an all-wheel drive all-terrain station wagon with increased ground clearance (Skoda Octavia Scout), which was produced on the basis of the all-wheel drive Combi.

The shape of the front optics and bumper was slightly changed, and the rear lights were slightly adjusted.

My friend is not FL, but I am FL, respectively, they compared:
They stopped installing a plastic engine cover, it makes the engine compartment look nicer.
and his dashboard is green, but mine is white, I mean, the numbers glow white.

Another electronics circuit - in FL there is an order of magnitude more of it.

Restyle has new headrests (cheaper, without adjustment)
new seats (according to the codes, even the frame numbers are different) + softer foam

Visibility has been improved due to mirrors, the range of engines has become poorer, the “package for bad roads” now costs money (approx. 5 thousand rubles) - but it’s better to install it.

There are differences in build quality and paint quality - heaven and earth.
BEFORE the Restyle, Skoda was and is a NOT killable workhorse.
FL - only problems - read the reviews and suffering of the people regarding the oil burner and DSG boxes.

The suspension is a bit harsh.
In fact - interior/exterior.
The new engine + dsg7 sucks, with design flaws.
Engines, it doesn’t matter whether it’s 1.6 or 1.8, suffer from oil burns.
DSG-7 boxes are killers.
The muzzle, steering wheel, and torpedo have been knocked down.

The bumpers are worse in FL - they removed the plastic skirt.
The distance from the ground to the lower point of the crankcase protection is 16.5 cm, without load. Painted moldings on the doors.

FL differs from dorestyle:

- engines, restyling - worse.
- modified suspension (FL worse),
— electronics (FL allows you to install any radio, and up to FL only Stream),
— modified steering column units (cruise is more expensive),
— support for new generation parking sensors,
— headlights (fl shines much better)

As already noted, the main difference between the restyled cars (FL) was the new engines and gearboxes, which were not previously available on the Octavia. I’m writing this from memory, so I could be wrong somewhere. Accordingly, what was written on our market could have countless variations for other countries...

Before restyling, cars had engines:

gasoline engines

1.6 FSI (115 hp 155 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmissions or 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive
2.0 FSI (150 hp 200 N/m) combined with manual transmission or 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (available in Combi and Scout versions)
1.8 TSI (160 hp 250 N/m) combined with a 6-speed manual transmission, front-wheel drive, was supplied for a short time.
2.0 TSI (200 hp 280 N/m) - RS version, only 6 manual transmissions, front-wheel drive.

turbodiesel

1.9 TDI (105 hp 250 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmission, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (available in Combi version)
2.0 TDI (140 hp 320 N/m)) combined with 6 DSG, front-wheel drive

After restyling:

1.4 (80 hp 132 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmission, front-wheel drive
1.6 (102 hp 148 N/m) combined with 5 manual transmissions or 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive
1.4 TSI (122 hp 200 N/m) combined with 6 manual transmissions or 7 DSG, front-wheel drive
1.8 TSI (152 hp 250 N/m) combined with 6 manual transmissions or 7 DSG, subsequently with 6 automatic transmissions (torque converter), front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (available in the Scout version)
turbodiesels disappeared from this model for Russia.

There is no year before restyling 2010 (or even 2009), in 09 they were sold until the summer, but these cars were released in 2008 (the only version of the car was imported from the Czech Republic, where they were produced for about a year).

The transition from one model to another took place in the 45th week of 2008, this is the last week of November, that is, in fact, 99% of 2008 was before the restyling.

Russian buyers have long and deeply fallen in love with representatives of the golf class, especially if they are made in a sedan body. One of the favorites of the domestic car enthusiast was and remains the Skoda Octavia in the A5 body, and after the restyling of the second generation of the model, the level of its consumer appeal has increased significantly.

The launch of the second generation of the Skoda Octavia A5 took place in 2004, and the car with which dealer showrooms are filled today was shown to the public at the International Motor Show in Paris 2008.

By and large, no radical changes have occurred. In keeping with the tradition of its “big brother” in the form of the Volkswagen Group, Skoda designers slightly changed the shape of the front optics and bumper, and also slightly adjusted the rear lights. However, despite the almost completely preserved concept of the appearance, Octavia began to look fresh, completely fitting into the current model line of the Czech company.

With more than impressive dimensions (4,569 x 1,769 x 1,462, wheelbase length 2,578 mm), the new Skoda Octavia A5, as one would expect, is capable of providing a decent level of comfort to all occupants of the cabin.

The driver will be pleased with the wide range of seat and steering wheel adjustments (tilt and reach), as well as a new instrument panel. Its changes consist of different dials, which, unfortunately, have become a little less informative, and a white backlight that is more pleasing to the eye, whereas before the vision was irritated by a caustic green glow.

All necessary functions, be it control of the audio system or climate control, are at hand for both the driver and the front passenger. Moreover, in order to master their work, just one glance is enough, since the keys and displays are arranged clearly and thoughtfully in German.

The prevailing material in the interior of the Skoda Octavia FL is soft plastic, pleasant both to look and to the touch. But when driving on cobblestones or low-quality roads, the interior trim allows for unpleasant squeaks. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is not the highest rigidity of the car body.

Of course, the main advantage of the Skoda Octavia A5 is the trunk. On the Russian market, the car is offered in two body styles – liftback and station wagon (Combi). If everything is clear with the second, then the first is nothing more than a five-door hatchback.

The luggage compartment volume of such a car is 560 liters. The successful layout of the compartment, coupled with a huge opening for loading and the ability to place luggage directly up to the glass, makes the Octavia A5 one of the class leaders in this regard.

If the initial volume of the trunk is not enough, then the folding seat backs will increase it to a cargo capacity of 1,350 liters. The station wagon has even more impressive figures - the volume of the luggage compartment, depending on the position of the rear sofa, varies from 580 to 1,630 liters.

In terms of dynamics and controllability, the Skoda Octavia A5, although not by much, is still slightly inferior to its competitors. The most popular and interesting engines are the 1.4 and 1.8-liter TSI engines, but due to availability, the 1400 cc power unit remains in special esteem among buyers.

In fact, this is the same engine that is installed on, but on the Octavia A5 it is devoid of a compressor, limited to one turbine. However, the motor is very elastic, and when paired with a 7-band preselective DSG robotic gearbox, it actively picks up speed in any gear.

In urban conditions, this is more than enough, especially since fuel consumption during less active movement varies around 7.0 liters per 100 kilometers. But on highways the 122-horsepower TSI may not be enough. At high speeds, acceleration is not so assertive, so when overtaking slow neighbors downstream, it is better to switch to a lower gear earlier, since the traction reserve may simply not be enough.

The handling of the Skoda Octavia A5 is not the sharpest, but thanks to the good tuning of the electric power steering, feedback is visible at the steering wheel. Nevertheless, fast cornering is not Skoda’s element, since the car allows noticeable, although not very large, body roll.

But all this does not apply to the “hot” version of the Octavia RS. In our market, this Octavia is offered exclusively in a liftback body and is equipped with a 2.0-liter TSI engine paired with a DSG robot. This car is equipped with a sports-tuned suspension, which allows you to clearly and accurately take any turns.

Options and prices Skoda Octavia RS (A5)

The dynamics of the Skoda Octavia RS are especially impressive - it takes just 7.2 seconds after the start to reach the first hundred, and the maximum speed reaches 240 km/h. The engine produces 200 “horses”, which is ideal for those who like to get the thrill of driving.

Today, Russian dealers offer customers four trim levels of the Skoda Octavia A5. The most affordable option is a car with a 1400 cc naturally aspirated engine producing 80 hp. and manual transmission in the Active configuration.

For such a car they ask for 574,000 rubles, and its basic equipment includes ABS, audio training, lumbar support for the front seats, a driver's airbag, a full-size spare wheel and an immobilizer.

The most expensive is the Laurin & Klement version for 1,094,000 with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and automatic, or with a 2.0-liter diesel engine and DSG robot, which costs 1,134,000 rubles.

Car introduced in 2004 Skoda Octavia the second generation was created on the platform of the Volkswagen Group A5(PQ35). The car received a new line of engines consisting of seven engines: BCA 1.4 l, BGU 1.6 l, BLF 1.6 l, BYT 1.8 l, BJB 1.9 - liter TDI turbodiesel, BKD 2.0 l and another TDI AZV turbodiesel with a volume of 2.0 l. The bodies were presented in two types: Octavia (sedan) and Octavia Combi (station wagon). The maintenance schedule for the Octavia A5 sedan and station wagon is similar. The official manual states that routine maintenance must be carried out exclusively at a service station and this procedure, as a rule, will cost extra financial costs. To be able to save money, you can carry out routine maintenance yourself, since it is not at all difficult and this manual will help you with this. The cost of do-it-yourself maintenance of the Octavia II will depend only on the price of spare parts and consumables (the approximate price is indicated for the Moscow region and in US dollars at the exchange rate at the time of writing). Below is the car maintenance schedule Skoda Octavia 2 (A5) with gasoline engines according to deadlines:

Coolant "G12 PLUS" can be mixed with coolants "G12" and "G11". To change the coolant, it is recommended to use “G12 PLUS” fluid in all cars. Search code G 012 A8F M1 1.5 liter container (concentrate) diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio. The total volume of the system is 1.4 l - 6.7 liters, 1.6 l - 6.9 liters, 2.0 l - 8.2 liters.
  2. in manual transmissions and automatic transmissions it is not regulated by the manufacturer and is performed during repairs. Nevertheless, experts recommend checking the oil level in the box and replacing it every 100 thousand km.

How much does maintenance cost for Skoda Octavia 2?

Drawing a final line over maintenance regulations for Skoda Octavia II A5, we can draw several conclusions regarding the cost of the Skoda Octavia A5 work schedule. The most expensive maintenance the eighth technical inspection of the car will come out, which is done after a mileage of 135 thousand km... At this stage, you will need to replace the engine oil and oil filter ($38), spark plugs ($20) and timing belt ($49) total $107.00.. The second most expensive is TO6, where you need to replace the air filter ($10), cabin filter ($7), engine oil and oil filter ($38), brake fluid ($8), spark plugs ($20) and fuel filter ($15.5) total $98.5. Concerning the cheapest maintenance, and this is, of course, TO1, it will cost you only 38$ for changing the oil and oil filter. These prices are relevant if you carry out all the work yourself, because the prices are only for spare parts and consumables, and if you add here the price of the invoice that the service station issues to you, then you can easily lose a couple of thousand rubles.

The history of the Skoda Octavia begins back in 1959, when the line was represented by compact economy hatchbacks. Much water has passed under the bridge since then - the collapse of Czechoslovakia, the formation of the Eurozone, the strict standardization of all automakers to international standards. Octavia has evolved significantly, and eventually became a real bestseller in the European Union, CIS, and Asia.

The huge demand is justified by the highest build quality, not inferior to German, reliability of the components, and all this at an affordable cost. The Octavia A5 FL is also attractive because it looks no worse, and maybe better, than D-class sedans, for example, Volkswagen Passat, Audi A4. The price of the model on the secondary market is from 500 thousand rubles.

  • Skoda Octavia A5built on the basisPQ35, all cars of the family produced since 2009 received the FL prefix.

The Skoda Octavia A5 was equipped with both petrol and diesel units. Gasoline engines are traditionally the most popular in the CIS countries. The reason for this is additives in fuel and low temperatures. However, Octavia diesel engines are famous for their unpretentiousness to the quality of diesel fuel, which cannot be said about competitors from the “Big Three”: Audi, Mercedes, BMW.

Petrol Octavia A5 FL:

  • 4TSI – the smallest and most economical in the Skoda Octavia. But not the weakest. Turbocharging provides sufficient thrust throughout almost the entire rev range. Power – 122 hp. Consumption in the city is about 9 liters per 100 kilometers. Acceleration to 100 km/h – 9.7 seconds.
  • 6MPI/75kW – the most affordable package. 102 horsepower, 10.5 liters of consumption in the urban cycle. This engine could be equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with a classic torque converter - 6AG. This engine has never been particularly popular, since it does not provide the required level of acceleration with quite serious fuel consumption.
  • 8TSI/118kW – a turbocharged engine with the best acceleration/dynamics combination in the lineup. Power 160 hp enough to confidently overtake, to change lanes in a metropolis. Consumption in the city is only 9.5 liters per hundred.

Diesel Skoda :

  • 0 TDI CR/103kW DSG – the most powerful turbodiesel installed on the Skoda Octavia A5 FL. With minimal fuel consumption, 6.5 liters in the city, it provides sufficient dynamics both in the metropolis and on highways.
  • 1.9TDI-PD/77kW – the most economical engine available for the Skoda Octavia A5 FL. Consumption in the urban cycle is 6 liters. Power – 105 horsepower.

Transmission

The car was equipped with all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. The Skoda Octavia A5 FL 4x4 was equipped with a Haldex transfer clutch, which has long proven itself to be the best. Intelligent all-wheel drive, depending on the road surface, can provide up to 86% of torque to any of the wheels and up to 90% to the rear axle.

The consumer has a choice of four gearboxes - six and five-speed manual or DSG-6, DSG-7 and AG. The preselective automatic reduces consumption by 10 - 15%, but fans of VW cars do not speak well of the seven-speed robot, which cannot be said about the DSG-6, which uses a progressive double-disc wet clutch. The “dry” DSG-7 does not use oil, is the most technologically advanced gearbox of the concern, has record efficiency, but is not designed to operate at high speeds - replacing the unit will cost 2.5–3 thousand dollars.

VW has made technology from Formula 1 racing available to everyone. The DSG gear shift speed does not exceed 8 milliseconds, which is three times faster than standard automatic transmissions. These are excellent dynamics, reduced consumption, the ability to change gears yourself - switch to manual mode. Among the disadvantages, it is worth noting the expensive procedure for changing the oil, but it is usually carried out no more than 60 thousand kilometers. Later, the preselective automatic machine appeared in Mitsubishi and some other “popular” brands.

A five-speed manual transmission is available for all Skoda Octavia A5 FL engines, except for the two-liter turbodiesel and 1.8 TSI. The six-speed was installed only on the 1.8 TSI; this engine was also equipped with DSG-7.

Body

The Skoda Octavia A5 FL was produced in liftback and station wagon body styles. Among the advantages stand out: a spacious trunk, ground clearance, anti-corrosion protection. High ground clearance has become a help for many car owners - the Skoda Octavia A5 FL is often lowered by cutting springs and so on. But in the conditions of the Russian outback, where there are problems with roads, 165 millimeters is a very decent indicator.

The luggage compartment volume is 560 liters, which allows you to easily fit a folded stroller or even a bicycle. A distinctive feature of the liftback body is the trunk lid, which opens along with the rear window. This design allows you to fold large items. Five people of average configuration can fit inside without hesitation.

  • Dimensions Skoda Octavia A 5 FL : length – 4569mm, width – 2018, height – 1462, wheelbase – 2578.

Curb weight (filled, without passengers or cargo) is 1265, gross weight is 1925. The turning circle is no more than 10.5 meters - this is a relevant and acceptable indicator for maneuvering in urban conditions.

Design

The Skoda Octavia A5 FL remains recognizable from the side; the front and rear parts are very similar to the Superb business sedan - a massive radiator grille, elongated headlights, the car has become noticeably wider. The “stern” has evolved insignificantly compared to the A4, but is made in a modern interpretation. The shapes have become more streamlined, which significantly improves the aerodynamic drag index.

Skoda's side mirrors are equipped with turn signal indicators. Head optics are available with both halogen lamps and xenon arcs. Intelligent fog lights were optionally installed to illuminate the turning path. The side mirrors remain large and very informative - Skoda engineers give preference to safety and comfort, ignoring newfangled trends in the field of automotive design.

There are several shades of white, black, red, green and gray available to choose from. The surcharge for metallic was an average of $600. What is noteworthy is that alloy wheels were installed in the base.

Suspension

The Octavia's chassis never causes any complaints - the car reacts sharply and predictably on any surface. Gas-oil shock absorbers with springs provide good handling on turns. The front has a traditional MacPherson strut with wishbones, and the rear has an independent multi-link suspension.

Driving on uneven surfaces does not cause discomfort; the car behaves collectedly, guaranteeing smoothness and softness. The Skoda Octavia A5 FL is well balanced between comfort on the dirt road and handling on the asphalt.

Roll in corners is minimal. Ventilated disc brakes are installed at the front, non-ventilated at the rear.

Options

Laurin & Klement – traditionally the most expensive equipment in the Skoda Octavia family. This is leather upholstery of seats, gearbox handles, door cards. The front panel is decorated with wood-look inserts. The upholstery options for the seats, passenger and driver, are incredibly varied - suede, perforated leather, different colors of stitching, and so on. It’s worth noting that the wood-effect inserts don’t look like grandma’s sideboard; they, “Volkswagen style,” neatly and laconically decorate the interior with subtle accents on the door panels and panels.

Main differences in configuration Ambition + – Jumbo Box compartment for small items under the front armrest, which also contains an audio jack for connecting a smartphone, a four-spoke steering wheel trimmed in leather, fifteen-inch PYXIS alloy wheels, front fog lights.

Equipment package Elegance + – dual-zone Climatronic air conditioning system with electrical adjustment, Jumbo Box, heated front seats, rear parking sensors, four-spoke multi-steering wheel with controls for the standard audio system, visual interface for controlling MAXI DOT systems, sixteen-inch PROXIMA alloy wheels.

Safety

In Euro NCAP tests, the Skoda Octavia received the highest ratings - five stars and 27 points in the classification for passenger and driver protection, 37 for child protection in the cabin. The car cares less about pedestrians – only 17 points. This is facilitated by the proper level of active and passive safety - electronic systems and body rigidity.

The interior is equipped with universal mountings for child seats, seat belts in the rear and front seats, and active head restraints as an option.

Electronic security systems for Skoda Octavia:
