The Skoda Rapid, which recently appeared in our country, is a unique budget car. In addition to a good selection of power units, the Skoda Rapid has a large ground clearance and trunk. At the same time, the ground clearance and interior space are quite decent. In terms of internal dimensions, the Skoda Rapid has no competitors in its class at all.

In 2015, production of modernized 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engines of the EA211 family began in Kaluga. The cylinder head, block itself, pistons, connecting rods, exhaust valves, oil and water pumps were redesigned. Updated engines with 90 and 110 hp. added to the Skoda Rapid engine line, and the “junior” 1.2 MPI, on the contrary, was excluded. Plus, the output of the turbocharged 1.4 TSI has been increased from 122 to 125 hp.
Today, the Skoda liftback can be purchased in the following configurations:
- 1.6 MPI 90 hp, 155 Nm with 5-speed manual transmission;
- 1.6 MPI 110 hp, 155 Nm with 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic;
- 1.4 TSI 125 hp, 200 Nm with 7DSG robotic transmission.
The new 1.6-liter units are characterized by good efficiency, consuming about 5.8-6.1 liters per 100 km. The fuel consumption of the Skoda Rapid with the 1.4 TSI and the DSG robot is even less - about 5.3 liters.

Skoda Rapid in 2016 year, despite the crisis in the market, it is still the most popular model of the Czech brand in Russia. Excellent appearance, a strict German interior and a very roomy body, these are the strengths of the Skoda Rapid liftback. If we compare the first generation Octavia with the current Rapid, it turns out that the Rapid is more spacious for passengers, and even has a slightly larger trunk volume.
The Skoda Rapid is assembled in the Kaluga region, at the same plant as the Volkswagen Polo sedan. The cars have a common platform, engines, chassis, and suspension. This unification allowed the Czechs to save significant funds on creating their car. Currently, the Skoda Rapid is in good demand in Europe, while the Polo sedan is not sold there at all. But if in the EU Czech cars have long been equipped with a whole range of bodies, such as a station wagon or a hatchback, then our model is offered only in a liftback body.
Appearance Rapid very reminiscent of the exterior of the current Octavia. The cars have common body lines, shape, and a similar silhouette. The designers clearly wanted to apply a common style throughout. Quite strict headlights, foglights, the shape of the hood, the radiator grille... no roundness, everything is drawn clearly according to the ruler. Inside the Rapid the same severity. Clear lines, buttons and switches are of the same style, even the instrument panel has a German feel. Plastic, although inexpensive, can’t be faulted with the build quality. And of course comfort for rear passengers. In terms of spaciousness, this model outperforms almost all its competitors. In the trunk of a Skoda Rapid liftback fits an unrealistic 530 liters of volume. In terms of this indicator, there are almost no competitors. The manufacturer has thought through everything to the smallest detail. The shelf, which always gets in the way when loading, is easily fixed in the upper position here; to do this, just slide the shelf behind the back of the rear seat. If you fold down the rear sofa, then the Rapid is ready to transport refrigerators, especially since the volume of 1470 liters and the fantastic 5-door opening contribute to this. Technical characteristics of Skoda Rapid
In technical terms, there were no significant changes in 2016, except that now under the hood of a public sector vehicle you can find a Russian-assembled engine. This is a 1.6-liter unit, which is already being assembled in Kaluga. The base 1.2-liter (75 hp) 3-cylinder engine is no longer offered because there is simply no demand for it.
The main 1.6 liter engine with a power of 90 and 110 hp. comes in combination with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. For those who like something hotter, the manufacturer offers a 1.4 liter turbo engine with 125 horsepower in combination with a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox. All three engines are from the new modular series of the VW concern and have much in common. 4-cylinder in-line unit with an aluminum block, 16-valve timing mechanism with belt drive. There is no longer a chain drive on 1.6 engines.
Rapid suspension at the front is an independent MacPherson strut with anti-roll bars, at the rear is a semi-independent suspension with a deformable beam. Especially for the Russian market, reinforced springs and shock absorbers are installed, which leads to an increase in ground clearance compared to the European version. Steering is rack and pinion. Prices and configurations of Skoda Rapid in 2016
Today, the most affordable basic version of Rapid costs 569,000 rubles. For this money, the power unit will be a 1.6 liter engine with a capacity of 90 hp. combined with a 5-speed manual transmission. There will be no other engine options in the “Entry” configuration.
In the next “Active” configuration, air conditioning and other useful functions appear, plus you can choose between different engines and gearboxes (except version 1.4 TSI 7-speed DSG). So a 110 horsepower engine with a 6-speed automatic will cost 715,000 rubles.
But the turbo under the hood of the Rapid, that is, the 1.4 TSI, can be bought in the next “Ambition” configuration for 860,000 rubles. In the top version “Style” for 125 hp. you will have to pay 926,000 rubles. And this is not the price ceiling for a budget liftback, because the manufacturer offers a huge number of additional options. The end result is not a budget car at all.
It will be very useful for Skoda Rapid car owners to know the volume of the fuel tank. Firstly, they won’t be able to deceive you at gas stations (this happens when they fill in more gasoline than the tank itself can hold), and secondly, knowing the average fuel consumption and the capacity of the gas tank, you can easily calculate the mileage of the trip without refueling.
The capacities of fuel tanks in cars differ depending on the class of the car, the design and type of body, as well as the consumption of gasoline or diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. The most common containers in B-class cars are from 45 to 65 liters.
The volume of the Skoda Rapid fuel tank, regardless of the engine and configuration, is 55 liters. This figure is indicated in the technical specifications of the car.
How much gasoline can you put in a Skoda Rapid?
It is worth saying that it is not always possible to fill the car tank with as much fuel as indicated in the technical specifications. In fact, almost all cars do not provide fuel for filling under the filler neck. The manufacturer leaves a reserve stock of 5-10 liters.

Even when the on-board computer tells you that the power reserve is zero, this does not always mean that the tank is completely empty. You still have the minimum that will allow you to travel the cherished 20-40 kilometers to the gas station. So, if the instruction manual states that the fuel tank of the Skoda Rapid is 55 liters, in fact, its capacity is 5-10 liters more.
Don’t rush to blame the gas station for filling you with several liters more than indicated in the specifications. Perhaps the only thing is that your car's tank was completely empty.
