Chevrolet Camaro horsepower. How much horsepower is in a Chevrolet Camaro. Fast but comfortable

In mid-May 2015, Chevrolet unveiled the sixth generation Camaro muscle car at a special event in Detroit. The car retained its recognizable features, but at the same time it became noticeably more technologically advanced, having moved to a new "cart", and at once lost almost a hundredweight.

The production of the sixth incarnation of this sports car has been established at the General Motors facility in Michigan - its sales in the US market began in the fall, and in 2016 it reached the Russian market.

The appearance of the "sixth Camaro" continues to develop the motives of its predecessor, but has become more modern and expressive.

Sharp edges and aggressively squinted optics with LED daytime running lights, combined with massive rear hips, original plastic bumpers and "muscles" pumped throughout the body form a powerful and squat silhouette that cannot be confused with any other sports car.

Well, the final contribution to the completion of the harmonious image is made by stylish lanterns and beautiful rims measuring 18 or 20 inches.

The level of performance directly affects the design of the exterior:

  • The basic version of the "sixth Camaro" is distinguished by vertical LED "chains" of running lights on the front bumper and two tailpipes of the exhaust system.
  • And here is the privilege of the "top SS" - a more aggressive "muzzle" with horizontal LEDs and ventilation slots on the hood, as well as four "trunks" responsible for the release, and a small spoiler on the trunk.

The 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro has become smaller than its predecessor in all characteristics at once: the length is 4784 mm, the width is 1897 mm, the height is 1348 mm, the distance between the axles is 2811 mm. This means that these indicators "lost" (in comparison with the previous one) - 53 mm, 20 mm, 12 mm and 41 mm, respectively. The front track is 1602 mm wide, and the rear track is 1631 mm.

The interior of "Camaro 6" retained a slight continuity with its predecessor, but received a noticeably changed layout. Four aircraft deflector nozzles look interesting, evoking associations with Mercedes, and the central pair is planted at the level of the transmission lever.

The steering wheel is truncated in a sporty way at the bottom and bears the control elements, and it looks much more appropriate in the interior of a sports car than the "donut" from "Cruise" in the previous model.

By default, the sculptural "canopy" hides analog instruments, but an optional 8-inch high-definition display is installed. A screen of similar size tops the center console, but it is in charge of the MyLink multimedia system.

The air temperature and fan speed control is organized in an interesting way - they are controlled by the rings around the ventilation deflectors, as a result of which the developers managed to get rid of some of the buttons.

What the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro has noticeably added against the background of the fifth generation model is the quality of finishing materials - solid plastics, fabric or leather in the seat upholstery, metal inserts. The sports car is equipped with front seats with pronounced bolsters on the sides, the rear sofa will still be comfortable only for children or short riders.

Specifications. For the "Camaro", a power range of three gasoline units is proposed (but the basic version is the most surprising):

  • The role of "base" is performed by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine Ecotec, developing 275 horsepower at 5600 rpm (in the Russian market declared as "238 hp") and 400 Nm of torque, available in the range from 3000 to 4500 rpm.
  • "Golden mean" is a V-shaped six-cylinder "aspirated" with a volume of 3.5 liters, equipped with direct injection, variable valve timing technology and a function for shutting off a pair of cylinders at partial loads. "Six" releases 335 "horses" of power at 6800 rpm and 385 Nm of peak thrust.
  • The summit is occupied by a 6.2-liter "monster" V8 LT1 with direct fuel supply to the combustion chamber from the Corvette C7 Stingray sports car, the output of which reaches 455 horsepower at 6000 rpm, and the maximum torque is 617 Nm, which are fed to the wheels with 4400 rpm. / minute.

Each of the engines relies on a 6-speed "mechanics" or an 8-band "automatic" Hydra-Matic (8L45 for the 2.0-liter version, 8L90 - for modifications 3.6 and 6.2).

In terms of dynamic characteristics, the "sixth Camaro" is not bad - even the basic version of this coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 6 seconds, and for every 100 km of run in the combined cycle it consumes an average of 7.8 liters of gasoline.

This two-door is based on the Alpha RWD platform (which also serves as the base for the Cadillac CTS sedan, but has been 70% redesigned specifically for the Camaro). On the front axle, an aluminum multi-link scheme with MacPherson strut and a double steering knuckle is mounted, at the rear there is a steel five-link suspension. The wider use of "winged" metal in the body structure increased the rigidity of the latter by 28% and reduced the total weight of the car by at least 90 kilograms.

The steering device implies the presence of an electric amplifier.

In the basic version, the coupe "flaunts" Brembo brakes: 4-piston with 320 mm discs at the front and 1-piston with 315 mm discs at the rear. "Top" cars put devices with a diameter of 345 mm on the front wheels and 338 mm on the rear.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro in 2018) is offered in a single 2LT configuration, supplemented by the RS package, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged "four" under the hood, which has been derated from "American" 279 hp to "Russian tax-optimal "238" horses.

In our country, they ask for 2,990,000 rubles for a car, and its "arsenal" unites: eight airbags, an electrically operated sunroof, a dual-zone "climate", a Brembo brake center, heated and ventilated front seats, bi-xenon headlights, 20 inch alloy wheels, LED taillights and remote engine start.

In addition, the sports car "flaunts" the advanced MyLink multimedia complex with an 8-inch touchscreen, a rear-view camera, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay reading and navigation, a premium Bose audio system with nine speakers, wireless charging for a smartphone and the darkness of other relevant equipment.

6th generation Chevrolet Camaro: spectacular dynamism

Rebirth of a legend - this was the presentation of the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro in 2015 in Detroit. The first cars were the 2016 model year. The company has built a novelty using the proprietary Alpha platform. Moreover, more than 70% of the components have been completely updated. The suspension and the drive have undergone a complete modernization, the interior has undergone maximum changes. Three years later, the automaker restyled the model.

We offer to buy Chevrolet Camaro in the most current version, which was presented to the world in the spring of 2018. The improved design of the novelty has increased its sporting qualities (including streamlining), and also optimized the cooling processes of systems and components.

In the design of the sixth generation, the automaker retained several hints of the exterior of the Chevrolet Camaro of the earlier generations. It is a front end divided into two parts by grille stripes and narrow headlights, as well as elongated taillights.

Notable changes include a new grille and front skirt, an updated hood shape, and dual LED headlights. The front end of the LT, RS, SS versions is completely different. The newest LED lights are installed at the back: for LS \ LT they are red, for other versions - with a darkened transparent center. The SS and RS have a redesigned rear diffuser.

The new Chevrolet Camaro is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine producing 238 hp and a torque limit of 400 Nm. Already at 2100 rpm, 90% of the thrust value is realized. Therefore, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in just 5.9 seconds.

The interior of the new Chevrolet Camaro is the embodiment of maximum comfort in a highly dynamic environment. The front seats are equipped with heating and ventilation systems. The steering wheel is heated. The seats and side mirrors are equipped with an electric drive and a memory package.

Ahead of progress: the history of generations of the Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet Camaro is a legend that surprises and sets new trends in its class with every stage of development. The brand was created in 1966, and during this time six generations of cars came out. All of them have one thing in common: special design and powerful engines.

The first generation: how the legend was born

It all started in 1964, when Ford introduced the Mustang. It was a car of a completely new class, aimed at young people who were not satisfied with the large family cars popular at that time. The market reacted violently, and just two years later the first generation Chevrolet Camaro joined the compact sports car class. Initially, there were two options available: a convertible and a coupe, with 80 additional options on request. The most powerful motor in the lineup is V-shaped, with 5.7 liters and 255 hp.

The modernized 1969 Chevrolet Camaro series was offered with a pronounced sporty design and improved technical content. There is a deep grille and segmented headlights. The car has become wider and more squat. A modern dashboard and luxury seats have been added to the cabin. The line of motors at that time was represented by 12 models. For the most powerful 5.7-liter, modifications were available for 325, 350, as well as 375 hp.

Second generation: classic

Just three years after the premiere, the second generation of the Chevrolet Camaro was born. At that moment it was one of the most popular models, so the novelty was greeted with a standing ovation. And it was worth it: the generation turned out to be of such high quality that its production lasted 12 years without major modernization.

The novelty was a little "Europeanized" - the cabriolet body was removed from the line and the coupe was lengthened by 5 cm. The 6.5-liter version marked 396 was used as the main engine. Then the line expanded, and a gradual decrease in power could be observed: the 1975 model was already released with a 105 hp unit However, this did not prevent the modification from becoming the best-selling in its class.

Third generation: impeccable style

The new generation of the Chevrolet Camaro was presented in 1982. In the same year, the novelty was recognized as the "car of the year" for its excellent design and ideal driving characteristics. Much attention has been paid to the suspension design, which improves agility and makes driving easier.

The third generation was distinguished by engines: they were equipped with fuel injection systems (this was a novelty for the automaker). The 3-speed automatic transmission was replaced by the 4-speed and 5-speed ones. A budget model with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine also appeared in the line.

The fourth generation: a time for innovation

His company presented in 1993. The new Chevrolet Camaro delighted with the most modern materials and technologies for that period. For the first time, when developing a car, the designers focused on plastic: fenders, a hood, and other body parts were made from it. This lightened the car and improved its handling - as did the redesigned front suspension and rack and pinion steering.

Under the hood was the LT1 engine with a new 6-speed manual transmission. The production of new items was stopped in 2002. Then there were suggestions that the legendary Chevrolet Camaro would no longer be created.

Fifth generation: spectacular rebirth

Chevrolet Camaro fans found hope in 2010: it was then that the new generation of the legend was presented. The novelty was presented more than effectively: it “played” one of the roles in the then cult film “Transformers”. With the fifth generation, the embodiment of ultra-modern design began with several elements of the classic muscle cars of previous years.

The power range consisted of two engines: 3.6 liters with 328 hp. and 6.2 liters with 405 hp. Both units were equipped with a 6-band automatic transmission for European buyers. Cars with 6-speed manual transmission are available to Americans. The model was designed on the Alpha platform (which later became the basis for the sixth generation) with multi-link suspension of both axles and rear-wheel drive.

In 2013, the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro was regenerated. After restyling, the design of the car became even more interesting. An important role in this was played by LED lamps of running lights in the head optics, as well as a modernized center console in the cabin. It houses 4 sections of analogue readings of motor systems, as well as an innovative multimedia complex with a large screen.

The range of motors was presented by:

  1. 6.2 L unit with 426 hp and a 6-speed manual transmission.
  2. The motor is 6.2 liters and 589 hp, with a manual transmission * 6 steps (or automatic (6 positions).

Another difference of the modernized version is the excellent ride quality on slightly uneven roads. This greatly increases comfort on long journeys.

Sixth generation: the story continues

The new version of the Chevrolet Camaro retained the external features of the previous generation. But in general, this is a completely different car, in which everything is modernized: design, interior trim, engines and systems.

Sixth generation model options:

  1. LT - in the basic version it is equipped with a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder unit with a capacity of 275 hp. On request, it is possible to install a six-cylinder engine with 3.6 liters and 335 hp.
  2. The LT with the RS design package is available with xenon headlights and LED surrounds, chrome grille trims, small spoiler and 20-inch wheels.
  3. SS - a sports version with a V-shaped engine with 8 cylinders and 6.2 liters. Power - 445 hp A distinctive feature - a radiator grille with 6-sided cells, real ventilation holes on the hood, xenon headlights and LED-edging, which acts as daytime running lights.

All variants of the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro of the pre-styling version are available in an open version: the noise and heat insulated top on an electrohydraulic drive can be fully folded and reclined at speeds up to 50 km / h.

In 2018, a restyled version of the car and a modification with a retractable roof came out. Engineers, working on improvements, updated the exterior, added modern technologies, introduced equipment:

  • 8-inch touchscreen display with personalized settings;
  • decorated steering wheel with beveled bottom and heated;
  • dashboard for 22 parameters;
  • rotary knobs for quick and easy climate control;
  • a large compartment for things, cup holders on the central tunnel, and other handy little things.

The model began to look even more modern. At the same time, the price of the car remains affordable within its niche.

Chevrolet Camaro and sport: a history of achievements

Already the first generation of the Chevrolet Camaro was created taking into account all the necessary sports characteristics. The main goal in the development of the design was considered to be the utmost adaptability to participate in races of all types: whether it be ring competitions on winding European tracks or 0.25 mile races with a parallel start.

The focus on sports victories became part of the marketing promotion of the Chevrolet Camaro: this was the only way to compete with worthy competitors in the niche. Therefore, all generations of models have been supplemented with excellent and responsive handling in all situations.

For sporting events, each line was initially supplemented with an SS (Super Sport) model. It was the first generation Camaro with a 375 hp engine. opened the Indianapolis 500 race - and the cabriolet with spectacular orange stripes then became world famous. He was one of the most powerful and fastest for that time.

The heyday of sporting achievement for the Chevrolet Camaro began with participation in the Nascar competition. Initially, this league was focused on production cars, but over time, the format has changed: now, exclusive Chevrolet Camaro with special technical characteristics enter the track.

However, SS still participates in one of the most popular series - the Sprint Cup. This category of competition has brought the automaker 38 victories in history. Recently, the company's models have been constant leaders - and this is an absolute record among car manufacturers in this category.

The body of each racing car is tested in a wind tunnel. All auto experts attending the competition speak about engine reliability and safety.

The new 2019 Camaro continues the trend for great sports cars. The designers managed to reduce the weight of the model by 177 kg, while improving its braking performance, maneuverability and handling. The body length has become shorter and the width has increased. Vehicle reliability has increased by 28%. Many hours of testing in a wind tunnel made it possible to achieve an extremely low drag coefficient.

The driver can choose any mode: Sport, Tour or Snow \ Ice. Each program provides a special driving comfort and enhances safety. Speaking of safety, there are 8 airbags in the cabin. Additional protection is provided by the high-strength body shell.

You can buy the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro from an authorized brand dealer. Choose an innovative sports car in which dynamics, options and reliability are paramount.

The legendary Chevrolet Camaro, which first launched in 1966, is not complete without a mention of sports cars, racing cars or muscle cars, and now supercars - with the recent introduction of the ZL1 and the revival of the Z / 28.

With Chevy looking to unveil the next-generation Camaro this year, we've decided to look back over the years and recall the history of the model, or rather, what changes they have undergone in terms of engine power.

The name Camaro comes from the French word camarade, meaning friend or buddy. Chevy GM founder Pete Estes once said: "The name of this car makes us always remember that a really good car will always be a real companion to its owner."

First generation, 1967 - 1969

The first Camaro debuted in late 1966 as a 1967 model car. The main goal of the company was to compete with the Mustangs, which began to be produced just a year earlier. The first models were equipped with six-cylinder in-line engines, providing 140 hp. and 298 Nm of torque.

More powerful versions with eight-cylinder Big Block series engines were characterized by power from 200 to 375 hp. The racing versions of the COPO Camaro were distinguished by a huge figure of 427 hp at that time. The first Z / 28 (then a slash appeared in the model name) made its debut at the Trans-American races. It was released with original bonnet stripes, rally wheels and a 302cc 8-cylinder engine. m.

Second generation, 1970 - 1981

The release of the second generation coincided with the start of the Camaro's production decline. The maximum power of the car is 375 hp. and maximum torque of 562 Nm (1970) dropped to a paltry 155 hp. in 1975. Big Block motors were discontinued after 1972. The base versions were generally less than 100 hp. The only highlight of this period was the return of the Z28 in 1977 - already without a slash in the name - at the request of fans of the brand.

Third generation, 1982 - 1992

In the late 70s and early 80s, the Camaro was generally forgotten as a powerful car. Chevy's muscle cars come with four-cylinder engines, with base models more likely to be measured in pony power than horsepower: 88bhp options have been offered. with carburetor or 92 hp with EFI.

Versions with V6 and V8 engines were also released on the market, but even the top configurations were characterized by only 245 hp. and 468 Nm of torque.

Fourth generation, 1993 - 2002

The fourth generation Camaro came out in the years after the oil crisis was over and the company returned to producing cars with impressive engine power ratings. By the way, this generation was still coming out on the already by that time 30-year-old F-body platform.

In the early years, the base engine of this generation Camaro was a six-cylinder 3.4-liter engine with a capacity of 160 hp, which was subsequently replaced by a more powerful and slightly improved 200-horsepower engine with a volume of 3.8 liters. It wasn't until the arrival of the Camaro SS in 1998 that the big boys got a new Small Block: a superb 305bhp engine. and 454 Nm of torque.

Fifth generation, 2010 - 2015

The fans of the model waited for the fifth generation for a long eight years, after which the long-awaited car with a body that combines retro and futuristic styling features and modern eight- and six-cylinder engines entered the market. The basic version was equipped with a V6 with 323 hp, a charged SS - V8 with 426 hp. Later, the racing ZL1 came out with 580 hp. and Z / 28 (again with a slash in the title). Besides being quite reasonable cost, these cars have become a truly excellent release.

Sixth generation, 2016 -?

The next Camaro will be released this year as a 2016 model year. The car will be launched on the new Alpha platform, on which the Cadillac ATS is already produced. According to preliminary information, the car will be lighter and faster. It is not yet known whether the new models will receive new engines. To be honest, not likely. But if the manufacturer manages to reduce the weight of the car sufficiently, the Camaro will be able to relive the era of its take-off.

The Detroit International Auto Show in January 2006 saw the premiere of an all-new concept car that heralded the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro muscle car. The serial version of the "American legend" appeared before the public in 2008 in Las Vegas, and the next year it reached car dealerships. A year and a half later, at the autumn auto show in Los Angeles, the presentation of an open version of the car, which received the Convertible prefix to the name, was held.

In 2012, at a bridegroom in New York, the debut of the updated car took place, which, in addition to a refreshed appearance, received new equipment and an increased palette of body colors. In 2013, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the world was shown a restyled convertible, which improved in the same vein as the coupe.

The design of the "fifth" Chevrolet Camaro surprisingly combines the individual features of the legendary predecessor from the seventies and the modern sports style inherent in the typical American "muscle car".
Aggressive, predatory, muscular - each of these epithets is perfect for describing the appearance of a sports car. The spectacular look is reinforced by the evil glare of the head optics, peeping out from under the edge of the long hood, chopped rear fenders, LED lights, two "muzzles" of the exhaust system and beautiful 20-inch wheels.

"Camaro" of the 5th generation is a large car: 4836 mm long, 1918 mm wide and 1377 mm high. Against this background, the equipped weight of 1687-1770 kg is not perceived as something out of the ordinary. The wheelbase of the "muscle car" is 2852 mm, and the gap from the bottom to the roadway (clearance) is 118-122 mm. The "open" version of the Convertible is slightly larger - 5 mm longer and 12 mm higher, and it has 3 mm less ground clearance.

The interior of the Chevrolet Camaro 5 has a spartan atmosphere, and hard and inexpensive plastics are widely used, although the seats are dressed in solid leather. Behind the multifunctional steering wheel, borrowed from the "Cruise", there are square "shafts" of the dashboard, which look original, but do not shine with information content. In the shape of the center console, space notes are traced, and it is crowned with a color display of the MyLink multimedia complex and a stylish air conditioning control unit (there is no "climate" even for a surcharge). The privilege of expensive versions is four "loopholes" of additional devices at the very bottom of the dashboard, showing important information.

"American" is equipped with comfortable and dense armchairs, but their lateral support is not expressed enough. The rear seats are more suitable for children or short adults - the stock of space is limited both in length and in height.

The trunk of the "Camaro" is small - only 320 liters, and instead of the "spare wheel" there is only a repair kit.

Specifications. For the Russian market, the "fifth Camaro" was equipped with two types of gasoline power plants, each of which was docked with a 6-band "automatic" Hydra-Matic 6L80 and a rear-wheel drive transmission.

  • Under the hood of the basic version, a naturally-aspirated V6 unit with a volume of 3.6 liters is installed, equipped with a 24-valve timing and direct injection. Its maximum output is 323 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 375 Nm of torque, available from 4800 rpm.
  • "Top" versions "sport" a 6.2-liter V-shaped "eight" with an aluminum block of cylinders, phase shifters at the inlet and Eaton technology, which turns off some of the "pots" at low loads, in the arsenal of which a herd of 400 "horses" available at 5900 rpm, and 554 Nm of peak thrust at 4300 rpm.

With the "junior" engine, the coupe develops 100 km / h after 6.2 seconds, with the "senior" engine - 1.5 seconds faster. The maximum speed in both cases is limited to 250 km / h. Due to its greater mass, the convertible is slower in acceleration dynamics by more than 1 second, but it was not officially available on the Russian market. In the combined cycle of movement "Camaro" costs 10.9-14.1 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

The fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro is based on the GM Zeta platform, where the engine is shifted behind the front axle to achieve better weight distribution (52:48 in favor of the front end). MacPherson struts are installed in the front, a four-link structure in the back. An electric power steering is used in the steering drive, and all wheels are aggregated with ventilated disc brakes (on the front axle their default diameter is 321 mm) and ABS and EBD systems.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the "Camaro" coupe was sold in two trim levels - 2LT with a V6 engine and 2SS with a V-shaped "figure eight" under the hood. The minimum request for the first modification was 3,900,000 rubles, for the second - 4,600,000 rubles.
The list of standard equipment includes front and side airbags, air conditioning, cruise control, MyLink multimedia complex, leather interior, full power accessories, heated front seats, premium audio system and 20-inch alloy wheels. The "top" version, in addition to a more powerful engine, is supplemented by bi-xenon headlights.
