Roller skis. Off-road roller skis Jenex V2 Aero XL150RC classic Off-road roller skis

American off-road roller skis Jenex V2 Aero with inflatable wheels have become widely known all over the world due to their optimal design designed for training both on asphalt and on unpaved surfaces. In Russia it is still exotic. Only Jenex rollerskis have the ability to install brakes and speed control. The use of roller skis with brakes and speed control allows for safe training on any terrain. Jenex V2 Aero roller skis are specially designed for riding on the ground; they are also called dirt roller skis.

Steep descents and dangerous turns can now be navigated calmly by adjusting the speed on the fly.

What makes Jenex V2 Aero roller skis different from regular roller skis? Let's highlight three main advantages.

Safety is the first advantage of Jenex V2 Aero roller skis. The presence of a brake for emergency braking and a speed controller to set the desired speed on the descent allows you to control the situation and safely pass any part of the most difficult route. This is especially important for training beginner skiers and children.

The ability to train outdoors is the second advantage of the Jenex V2 Aero roller skis. Inflatable wheels with a diameter of 150 mm will give you the opportunity to train outside of crowded roller ski tracks and dangerous roads. Now you choose your own training location. A park path, a flat forest path, a dirt road in the fields - all this will become your new training place.

The development of classic technology is the third advantage of the Jenex V2 Aero roller skis. The front locking wheel allows you to most accurately approximate the push-off on roller skates to the push-off on skis. If you push incorrectly, you will feel the kickback, like on skis. Conventional roller skis with an “iron” grip make the task easier for the skier and do not contribute to the formation of correct push-off.

The price of off-road roller skis is higher than regular roller skis and not everyone can afford it. Yes this is true. But how much does falling on asphalt cost? How much does an abrasion cost? How much is the risk of training on the road worth? How much does fresh air cost? How much does safe training cost? How many skiers fall on the pavement every day and miss training due to injury? Let's answer these questions for ourselves and look at the price again. The manufacturers of the JENEX V2 roller skis don't just want to make money from skiers, they want to provide us with a sophisticated, best-in-class and unique product. And most importantly - safe!

Gearboxes are installed on both front forks of roller skis. The gearbox is designed to slow down the speed of rotation of the wheels for a long time, on a long descent, when performing training with a higher load, in a dangerous area. The gearbox has step-by-step deceleration adjustment. You can adjust the deceleration on the go. To slow down, you need to bend over to the front wheels and put the gear adjusters in the desired position. In this case, a rotating bearing is pressed against the front wheel, which slows down but does not wear out the rubber. The gearbox cannot be used to brake quickly and sharply.

The brake is easily installed on the rear fork of one of the roller skis. It is designed for fast, sudden, short-term braking. When braking, the braking leg moves forward and the steel block is pressed against the rear wheel. The brake cannot be used for a long time, as the pad rubs against the tire.

How to choose the right roller skis?

Roller skis were created so that during the off-season, skiers could provide themselves with additional exercise, similar to training on skis. Today, thanks to the development of roller skis, they have become a unique sport, the essence of which comes down to racing on roller skis. In Europe, this sport has become popular in almost all cities. In addition, roller skis are increasingly being used by outdoor enthusiasts.

Today they produce a wide variety of types of roller skis, so everyone can choose what best suits their ideas about what modern roller skis should be. However, if you are going to purchase the first roller skis in your life, we advise you to pay attention to the following points.

First of all, you should know that roller skis are divided into two types: classic and skate. In addition, roller skis can be racing and training. If you are a beginner, then it would be best for you to purchase a training model. Of course, this division is relative, because there are also so-called combined models that combine the characteristics of various types of roller skis.

If we talk about training roller skis, it should be noted that they should correspond to the ski stroke as much as possible. To ensure this, special retarding devices, also called Speed Reducers, are usually installed on such models. Due to these decelerators, the speed of movement will match the speed of the skis as much as possible. At the same time, the wheels of training roller skis are made of soft components, which significantly reduces vibrations, increasing traction. In addition, the frame of such a rollerski can imitate the peculiar deflection of a ski.

Racing roller skis are models capable of reaching maximum speed. At the same time, these models are quite light in weight; in addition, these rollers are equipped with a short rigid frame and wheels with a fairly large diameter.

They differ from classic models of roller skis, first of all, in that a ratchet is installed in one pair of wheels, the purpose of which is to block the wheels from rotating backwards. The stability of roller skates is increased due to the fact that they are equipped with wheels that are quite wide.

Design features of roller skates.

Most often, roller skis consist of the following fundamental components, namely: a ski binding and a frame with wheels. When making wheels, two types of materials are usually used: rubber and polyurethane. Rubber has excellent performance characteristics, including, for example, high elasticity. The elasticity ensures comfort and smoothness during movement. In addition, rubber wheels significantly reduce vibration, because rubber has excellent adhesion to asphalt, but this may reduce the speed of roller skis somewhat. That is why. Rubber wheels are usually installed on classic-type roller skates.

It is also worth noting that rubber wheels should not be installed on skate rollers, since with a powerful push, they can be significantly deformed, which will lead to rapid wear of the wheels.

Polyurethane wheels are stiffer than rubber wheels. They are less subject to wear. In addition, polyurethane wheels react quite sharply to various lateral shocks. It should also be noted that polyurethane is of the highest quality, which results in excellent handling on the road. Thus, polyurethane wheels are perfect for roller skates.

As we have already noted, another important component of roller skates is the frame itself. After all, it is with its help that force is transmitted from the wheels to the legs. If we talk about the main characteristics of roller skates, we can note such parameters as length, weight and stiffness. The length of the frame determines how roller skis stay on the road; the longer it is, the more stable the roller skis ride. In addition, long frame lengths can significantly reduce vibration. If we talk about skating rollers, the optimal frame length for them will be 65 cm; classic type rollers have a frame of more than 70 cm.

In addition, the frame must be flexible and rigid. Roller skates with flexible frames match the performance of a real ski to the maximum extent possible. Most often, such rollers are used to learn how to use this technique correctly.

In addition, a flexible frame can also dampen vibration quite well, making it possible to ride roller skis with flexible frames over long distances. However, flexible frames are not reliable. When choosing roller skates with such frames, take into account the weight of the person who will ride these skates. Weight should not exceed 70 kg. If a person weighs more, then the frame may simply not support it.

The rigid type frame is most often made of aluminum alloy, which ensures its reliability. In addition, it is quite easier to control roller skates with a similar frame. During movement, the legs are subject to significant stress. These rollers are most often used in racing competitions.

The main function of roller skis is to ensure maximum speed when moving. However, the speed should not exceed the current world and Russian standards. According to these standards, the minimum distance that must be between the axles is 53 cm, while the maximum wheel diameter is 10 cm.

In the Russian Federation, competitions on roller skis can only be carried out on those models that are strictly specified. For example, summer competitions can be carried out using roller skis of the Marwe No. 6 models.

It is also worth noting that standing on roller skates, the athlete will be several centimeters higher than if he were standing on skis. That is why, when choosing roller skis, you need to pay attention to whether you can maintain your balance on them.

If you purchase racing roller skis, you expect that the roller skis will reach maximum speed; if you need a roller ski for training, then it is best to give preference to roller skis on which you can easily maintain your balance. These roller skis will allow you to avoid various injuries.

Roller skis designed for classic skiing must be stable enough so that you do not fall when pushed. Typically, the frame length of classic roller skates is 70 cm, while the wheels are quite wide, which provides additional stability. Such a frame, in combination with wide wheels made of fairly soft rubber, ensures a smooth and soft ride, which prevents falls.

Classic roller skates are, for example, models such as Elpex Wasa 610 and SkiSkett Bull.

If we talk about high-speed options, we can note such models as: Elpex Team 610 and SkiSkett Nord. These roller skis have harder tires and narrower wheels. With these roller skates you will be able to take part in racing competitions.

If you are a participant in sprint racing, we advise you to opt for classic roller ski models, for example, a model such as the SkiSkett BITURBO. The high stability of this model is due to. First of all, the fact that the roller has a three-wheeled design, in addition, the model is equipped with polyurethane wheels with a ratchet, which also ensures high rigidity and low friction on the road. It should be noted that a ratchet is quite expensive, which is why replacing wheels will often be equivalent to half the cost of new rollers. If you are not willing to pay that amount to replace wheels, we recommend choosing models with waterproof bearings.

How to choose rollers for skating?

When choosing models designed for skating, pay attention to whether the model you choose has two narrow, large-diameter wheels. If yes, then this roller is perfect for skating. In addition, for skating, it is best to choose roller skis with polyurethane wheels (model Start Skating 71). In addition, a model such as SkiSkiSkett Fire is quite similar in technical characteristics; the only thing that distinguishes it from the Start Skating 71 model is a larger set of stand options.

If we talk about racing models, it can be noted that they are mainly characterized by narrow wheels, the width of which usually does not exceed 2 cm; such a width can significantly reduce friction with the asphalt surface.

In this case, the diameter is usually 10 cm; by the way, this diameter is considered the maximum permissible according to international standards. The length of the platform is usually 53 cm, the minimum acceptable according to the same standards.

It is also worth noting that today such a model of roller skis as SkiSkett is quite popular. Moreover, it is presented in several configuration options, which allows everyone to choose what they like.

Racing SkiSkett models feature off-center bindings that are positioned so that the center of gravity of the skate is aligned with the center of the skier's boot, resulting in maximum impact load. It turns out that this design makes it possible to distribute the load on the wheels evenly, therefore, due to the least total resistance, the highest speed is ensured.

High-speed roller skis, which have a short platform combined with high wheels, as well as a mount that is not installed at the center of gravity, require a special pushing technique that differs from skiing technique.

However, do not forget that high speeds can cause various falls and injuries, which is why if you need roller skates for daily training, then it is better not to take these models.

Roller skis are special.

A typical training session on roller skis lasts on average more than 3 hours, during all this time the athlete experiences certain inconvenience due to the existing vibration. In order to minimize vibration, we advise you to opt for models such as Elpex F1, Elpex OFF ROAD. Elpex OFF ROAD has fairly powerful wheels, the diameter of which is more than 15 cm, while the wheels themselves are covered with solid, fairly soft rubber.

Roller skis were once produced for off-road use. These rollers had wheels with a diameter of 20 cm. However, these models also differed in their significant weight, which was 4 kg. Today, some foreign companies produce this kind of roller skates, although finding them is very problematic.

In our sports store you can always buy roller skis of any class and purpose.

On a hot summer day on June 11, 2011 in Bitz, the XCSPORT website conducted the first of its kind test drive of the Jenex V2 off-road roller skis. The action was not of a commercial nature, but was aimed at researching the public opinion of sports fans regarding the new roller ski.

At the same time, the traditional half-marathon cross-country was taking place in Bitsa, so some participants in the running competition also appreciated the off-road roller skis. The author of an article about off-road skis in XCSPORT magazine, an amateur skier, Alexander Muzyka, who has been practicing training on various types of off-road roller skis for about five years, rode them the full distance of a half marathon, without any problems going through all the ups and downs of the relief Bitsa route. This would not be possible without the gearboxes (speed reducers) that are installed on all Jenex V2 roller ski models.

“I simply fully tightened the gearboxes on the front wheels and calmly went through all the descents without experiencing any inconvenience,” Alexander Muzyka shared his experience with other testers, “it would have been difficult to complete the entire half-marathon lap (5 km) without a gearbox. On steep descents you accelerate decently and you need to slow down."

Alexander Music on the half marathon course on classic Jenex V2 roller skis XL125RC. Alexander covered the entire distance of the Bitsevsky half-marathon on Jenex V2 XL125RC off-road roller skis.

The first was Dmitry Ukrainsky from Chekhov:

“I tried the Jenex V2 off-road roller skis. The impressions are unusual; the speed on them is slower than on ordinary asphalt roller skates. On the other hand, due to the low speed, despite the large wheel size (150 mm), no instability is felt. But of course, like any new equipment, you need to get used to them.”

Testing off-road roller skis Jenex V2 XL150S in the Bitsa recreation center

Olga Ishanova, who came to Bitsa to specifically test off-road roller skis, had a slightly different impression.

“It was quite difficult for me to move on the Jenex V2 roller skating skis - maybe because I was wearing classic ski boots, maybe they just require more serious training. The rather low platform did not allow me to drive on less than perfectly level ground. Rather, these are roller skis for more advanced amateurs.”

Off-road roller skis aroused particular interest among young skiers who participated in children's races as part of the Bitsa cross-half marathon. They lined up together and quickly drove their SUVs around Bitsa without experiencing any inconvenience.

“It’s a great feeling,” smiled Alexander Alekhine, winner of the youth race. “In general, the sensations are different from asphalt roller skis, but in terms of stability and convenience they are in no way inferior.”

Young skiers really like off-road roller skis, because skiing in nature is much more interesting than on asphalt.

Several more participants of the Bitsevsky cross-half marathon, but already the full distance, tried Jenex V2 off-road roller skis. Ilya Slepov received a lot of impressions, apparently not only from the 21 km race, but also from off-road roller skiing.

“Whatever you say, you can really train on dirt on these roller skates. Of course, you need a flat track, without roots and bumps. In addition, I would recommend practicing off-road roller skis on a familiar trail for safety reasons. And traveling on SUVs is very similar to skiing. Especially when you're going uphill. The feeling of skiing on mushy heavy snow is what you need for an effective workout.”

Master of Sports Ilya Slepov tests off-road roller skis Jenex V2 XL150S

Oleg Opalev finished sixth overall at the half marathon, however, he found the strength to take part in a test drive of off-road roller skis.“I’m more into running in the summer, so it’s difficult for me to compare with other roller skis, but if we draw a parallel with skiing, the sensations are very similar. Although you need a smooth and clear trail, the leaves and tree roots on the trail are in the way.”

Olga Odnorozhenko, who also came to Bitsa with Oleg OpalevI didn’t miss the opportunity to try off-road roller skis.

“The thing is great, you just need to get used to it a little. In general, you have to be a very big fan of skiing in order to ski them in the summer. And these roller skates are actually summer skis.”

Olga Odnorozhenko tests Jenex V2 XL150 skates with brake

Apparently, one of these skiing fans is Dmitry Zhukov, who came to Bitsa to try off-road roller skis. Moreover, unlike most of the testers, Dmitry took everything into account and took with him a set of poles and boots for both skating and classic skating. Therefore, he actually got a full-fledged training session on off-road roller skis, and even with a change of style - an off-road duathlon.

“The only thing backcountry roller skis require of a skier is to find a wide, flat path to skate on. For classics, half a meter wide is enough. In general, you can ride on both asphalt and dirt. There are no problems with stability, the roller skis keep their direction clearly.”

Despite the impressive dimensions, Dmitry easily coped with off-road roller skis, and the JENEX V2 XL125RC roller skis easily coped with Dmitry.

Another test driver of roller skis was Denis Provalov, a famous speleologist, traveler and big fan of ski marathons.
“I definitely liked the off-road roller skis! It happens that small twigs get into the wheels, but it’s not scary. And the handling is fine, and you can drive on the grass. Off-road roller skis allow you to do good strength work.”

Thus, based on your first test drive, you can form your own opinion about what off-road roller skis are. The opinions of the participants, as you can see, agree in many ways and diverge in others. Most testers noted the need to have a gearbox on very rough terrain, the similarity of riding Jenex V2 roller skis to skiing, and the softness of the ride. At the same time, some testers noted that confident skiing on off-road roller skis requires stable skiing skills and a short period of adaptation. And only the young experts did not need any getting used to - they got up and drove off.

The test drive in Bitsa, we are sure, was not the last, so follow the news on www.xcsport.ru and get your ski boots and poles ready to form your opinion about what the Jenex V2 off-road roller skis are.
