All owner reviews about Citroen C5 I restyling. Citroen C5 Citroen C5 Characteristics of the engine range

The French sedan is equipped with a proprietary hydropneumatic suspension, Hydractive III+, which ensures safe and comfortable driving. It automatically adapts to road conditions and driving style and allows you to maintain a constant level of ground clearance, regardless of the load. The suspension has two main stiffness modes: soft and hard, which allows you to choose between dynamism and comfort. There's also a Sport mode for more spirited driving, allowing you to enjoy driving at high speeds.

The interior of the Citroen C5 is spacious and very comfortable. The design of the car provides high-quality sound insulation. Multilayer sound-absorbing glass of a special design consists of two ordinary glasses and one plastic glass to minimize the penetration of extraneous sounds. The doors are triple sealed and special sound-absorbing materials are used around noise sources (such as the engine). All this will allow you to enjoy a friendly conversation or listening to music during your trip instead of annoying ambient noise.

It uses not a conventional parking brake, but an electric parking brake. It automatically turns on when the engine is turned off and automatically turns off when you press the gas pedal. If you need to activate the parking brake while the engine is running, for example, when stopping on a downhill, there is a button on the center console for this. In addition, the electric parking brake is combined with hill start assist for added driving comfort and increased safety.

Good day everyone. According to established tradition, I am writing to you a continuation of the review of the Citroen, in connection with its sale. So to speak, I’m putting an end to it. I was left with only warm impressions and generally consider the C5 to be an underrated car on our market, as do all French people. Let me give you this example: due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to look for a car to replace the C5 in a fairly short time and I was faced with the problem of choosing a car, a real problem. There are a lot of cars, but when I start comparing them with the C5, they only outperform it in terms of dynamics, everything else is parity at best. Of course, I don’t include the premium segment here. The purchase amount was not so impressive.

Let's go in order now.

Reliability:

Strengths:

  • Suspension
  • Reliability

Weak sides:

  • Dynamics

Good day to all.

I sold my Citroen C5 a week ago and decided to write a review about the car. I’ll say right away that the impression is mostly positive - the car is super, BUT the big minus, especially in our provinces, is poor liquidity.

I bought the car in the spring of 2010, bought it used. with a mileage of 55,000 km. I’ll say right away that I was fooled and bought a well-damaged device (I discovered it later, of course), but I wasn’t particularly upset (the only thing I understood was that it would affect my wallet when I sold it). I was impressed with the car from the first hours of the trip, and the trip after the purchase was from Moscow to N. Novgorod (450 km). I couldn’t immediately figure out how to control the light, but the automation itself helped (light sensor); when entering the tunnels, the light came on and turned off automatically. The car is simply huge, subjectively inside it seems 1.5 times wider than any car, there is plenty of space in front for both driver and passenger, and there is just a sofa in the back. The car gives the impression of a real assembled car (not a tin can on wheels). Paintwork defects always kill me, especially bad painting. Here the fenders and hood are made of aluminum, the paint is simply magnificent, of course there are chips, but nothing is rusting. Literally in the first week after the purchase, when I arrived at my parents’ place, my compassionate neighbors drew something sharp across the hood down to the metal. I was very upset, but the hood is actually made of aluminum, after winter there was naturally not a hint of corrosion.

Strengths:

  • The car is excellent in every way

Weak sides:

  • Low liquidity (see review).

Review Citroen ICE 1.6 120 hp (Citroen C5) 2012 Part 3

Good afternoon everyone. I decided to write a few lines about my C5, and add a little criticism, otherwise everything is somehow going wrong.

Firstly, I wanted to talk about the first maintenance (if an oil change can be called that). It went absolutely as usual. I signed up, arrived, and was accepted. No queues, the car was delivered at the pre-agreed time. Upon delivery, they told me when the next maintenance would be, how much it would cost and what they would do. The replacement cost 2,900 rubles including materials and cleaning. Quite budget friendly. You can save money and buy everything yourself, but the difference of 100 rubles per liter of oil is somehow completely ridiculous. By the way, the next maintenance will cost approximately 6,500 rubles with their materials, which is also not expensive at all. So the service is good so far.

Now a little negative about the car itself. I personally don't like 2 things:

Strengths:

Weak sides:

I’ll say right away that this is not my first acquaintance with cars of this brand. Before that, I drove a Citroen C4, several Renaults and a Peugeot 307. To be honest, I had some liking for French cars, but all this remained in the past after a close acquaintance with the Citro C5. I started looking at the C5 about a year before the purchase. I read the reviews, looked at the photos... From the reviews I realized that the car was not the most reliable, but it was not outright trash either. The appearance was very attractive. And since I planned to drive quite a bit, I decided to purchase such a business sedan. When it came to specifics, I looked at 5 options and they all had some kind of flaws... I had already given up on the idea of buying the C5, but then I accidentally came across what seemed to me to be a good and inexpensive option...

I took the car to an official service center and gave it a full drive. As a result, worn out discs with pads, a worn out timing belt, leaking oil from under the valve covers (there are 2 of them) and all sorts of small things in the suspension were diagnosed. The next day after the purchase there was a trip to Dmitrov. The whole family, satisfied with the new purchase, set off on our little journey. And imagine my surprise when, halfway to Dmitrov, the force on the steering wheel began to exceed the force applied to the steering wheel of the ZIL 130! In general, we got to Dmitrov with great grief. There he drove it to the Citroen branded service center, and after pushing around, the specialists determined that a faulty electronic unit with fuses was to blame. The announced price greatly upset me and I returned to Moscow on a “wooden stool”... Here they replaced the block for 15 kilorubles.

But the problems continued. After filling up with 95 gasoline at Gazprom Neft, the car's idle speed began to fluctuate and it was simply impossible to move off with the engine not warmed up; the car stalled. As a result, it warmed up every day for about 20 minutes until I filled it with normal gasoline... The service center reported that there was no fuel filter in the car and you only need to refuel with halal gasoline... We drove on... a few more days and... the car simply wouldn’t start. I arrived at the service with a tow truck... Here I was greeted like an old friend)) The reason for the failure this time was a certain BSM unit. Changed it. I parted with another 20 kilorubles.

Strengths:

  • Appearance
  • Hydropneumatic suspension
  • Spacious trunk

Weak sides:

  • RELIABILITY

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2007

In my C5 I have driven 173,000 km from 0 in 5 years. And I am quite satisfied. Before the purchase, there were doubtful advisers - “you’re buying a French car,” but that’s not true, maintenance is expensive, etc. But for the entire time, almost only consumable parts were replaced. Although there were little things: in the 2nd year one pipe in the air conditioner began to leak (replaced under warranty), in the 4th year the temperature sensor on the cylinder head failed (replaced within an hour and a half at an authorized service station). The winter before last, the movable damper in the climate control broke, but it looks like I broke it myself when I left the car wash in freezing temperatures of minus 30C without blowing out the system with a fan while the heater was on. In the 4th year, slight play appeared in the steering shaft. It turned out that the spline connection was loose, I didn’t change anything, I made a steel clamp and tightened it with two bolts. The backlash is gone forever. The car turned out to be very reliable and strong. We drove into the backside twice (“eccentrics” who are “hanging on the tail”): No. 1-Murano, No. 2-Accent. Both have their fronts in pieces, but the C5 only has minor repairs. I constantly use the function of changing the clearance, because... I travel a lot to “destinations”, it turned out to be a VERY convenient thing! The time is coming to change the car, “Good”, but still age and mileage... The new C5 is somewhat NOT THERE. And it’s not a hatchback, and the engines with manual transmission are not the same, I don’t like automatic. Within prices up to 1.5 million. there is nothing so universal. It’s interesting how others solved the problem of changing the “horse”.

Strengths:

  • Versatility: both on the highway and in “directions”
  • Suspension comfort
  • Convenient for bulk transportation of things, such as an inflatable boat with a motor

Weak sides:

  • I didn't find any shortcomings within my needs. Just a slight creaking of the front side window seals

Review Citroen ICE 1.6 120 hp (Citroen C5) 2012 Part 2

As always, good day. At the request, I am writing a short report after running in my C5 car. I foresee negative statements from some users of this resource and immediately say that write reviews about the car every 2000 km. I won’t, because I don’t have the time or desire for it.

For now I drive around the house no further than 2-3 km. from the Citroen service center, I’m still waiting for the electrics to finally start to malfunction, the engine to jam, or at least the gearbox to break, but it’s bound to break, I think this will happen any day now. Just kidding, I couldn't resist. Now let's get serious. I’m writing only because I ran the engine in and tried it now in different modes, and, accordingly, this miracle gearbox RKPP6EGS, if I’m not mistaken.

So, in order, 1.6 engine with 120 horses:

Review Citroen ICE 1.6 120 hp (Citroen C5) 2012

Good day everyone. I decided to write a couple of lines about my new acquisition, namely the Citroen C5, with a 120 horsepower engine and a robotic gearbox, isn’t it a hellish mixture :). I’ll write a few words right away, anticipating the attacks of my party comrades, such as why a Citroen or 120 horsepower doesn’t drive at all + robot.

Ford Mondeo has served its due period for which it was hired, i.e. during renovations in a new apartment, he brilliantly coped with the task assigned to him of transporting building materials and all sorts of rubbish for repairs, but he still wanted something different and not mechanically. There was no money after buying the apartment, so they decided to sell Ford and take out a loan for the difference, but not a very large one and preferably with a minimal overpayment. Honestly, this time I didn’t go to showrooms looking for a choice, I just didn’t have time for that, I mostly got everything from the Internet. I liked the Peugeot 508, a new model + tasty price, but only if you take it with a 120 horsepower internal combustion engine, and if with 150, then not everything is so rosy. We arrived and looked, the interior is 5, the exterior is between 3 and 4, on the test there were only 150 horses and 6 mortar Icing. Well, let's go, let's see. What can I say, it drives very well, well, it's a 150 turbo, but what about 120 horsepower? Nobody can say. And also this robot. No, he didn’t really scare me, I drove an Opel for 2.5 years, but I didn’t feel any joy from meeting him either. In general, I climbed into the Internet and saw that with a 150-horsepower internal combustion engine from Peugeot/Citroen, not everything is so rosy, For many, they don’t last very long. About 120 strong, on the contrary, everything seems to be fine. I started looking for something to test and found a Citroen in the showroom, I don’t remember exactly, in my opinion, a Picasso C4 with this internal combustion engine and a robot. Go. To be honest, the car drives even better than expected. That's it, it's decided - I've booked a Peugeot 508, a Ford for sale! And then I realized that in the summer there was no market, 2 weeks and zero results, with the lowest price in the region! I'm going to the car dealership for trade-in. They appreciated it, so it’s cheaper to just give it away. And then I decided to call the Citroen salon with the same offer. And there…. Not only is the price adequate for the car, but there is also a trade-in discount of 40 thousand rubles. + for the car itself 40 tr. + preferential loan. Well, I think I should take it, especially since I’ve been breathing unevenly for a long time on C5.

Now I’ll tell you why I didn’t take 150 hp.

Strengths:

  • Comfortable suspension
  • Very rich equipment is already in the money database
  • Noise insulation
  • Ergonomics

Weak sides:

  • The suspension is not for sport taxiing (although this doesn’t matter with this engine)
  • Brakes are a bit wobbly
  • Dynamics up to 2 t. about no (as expected)
  • With all the electronic Gadgets, there are no heated seats (very bad)

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2007

Hello everyone!!

Well... let's begin. This was in the spring of 2007. A good friend of mine decided to involve me in buying his new car. I agreed. We probably visited all the dealers that are in St. Petersburg. Well, with the exception, of course, of VAZ, the Chinese and some Koreans. We are practical people and were looking for a good price/quality ratio. As a result, my friend settled on the following options: Mazda 6, Subaru Forester or Legacy, Citroen C5, Ford Mondeo, Volvo S80 and a couple of others... I don’t remember exactly. Well, at this stage I told him that he would then choose himself, since there were no comrades according to his taste and color, but I liked Sitrik. And he chose the Citroen C5.

After driving it for exactly a year and driving 32,000 km, he suddenly calls me and offers to buy this car. I was quite surprised, because I knew all his laudatory reviews about this speaker. Well, since the car was always in front of my eyes, and I myself drove it a lot, I agreed. And now it’s been almost 4 years since I’ve been driving this Citroen. Engine 2l. - 140 horses. The equipment is rich, but only mechanical. The car has everything except leather and automatic. I won’t list them, but right down to parking sensors around the entire perimeter and pressure sensors in the wheels.

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • Suspension
  • Interior space
  • Equipment
  • Car thieves don't even look at this car
  • Inexpensive repairs and inexpensive spare parts (except for dealers)
  • Price/quality/equipment ratio

Weak sides:

  • Minor flaws in technical solutions (see comment)
  • Post-warranty service at the dealer

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2007 Part 3

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2007 Part 2

Hi all!

I decided to write a few lines after the sale of the citramonic. The reason for the sale is banal - life has given way :) So, of course, I could drive it for another year and then take, for example, the C5-III. Beautiful, infectious, and even with a hydra... But life makes its own adjustments to plans... Well, oh well, there will be a holiday in life :)

For a year and a half of ownership, the mileage was childish, it was the second car, that’s why it was so small, but the trips were frequent, but short - 5-10 km each - to the store and other nearby places. In terms of load conditions, I would equate this to a mileage of 25 thousand. The car did not cause any technical problems. Passed MOT 2 times - replaced filters, oil and brushes. Alles. By the way, the disease of parking sensors is sometimes cured - the sensor costs 2.4 thousand, which, IMHO, is steep for such a trick, and even with such a service life, especially when the whole set from the narrow-eyed (Chinese) costs 3 rubles. The specialized forums helped - I gave 2 faulty sensors after diagnosing them to guys with hands and a soldering iron - REPAIRED! :))) So, Bosch never dreamed that his sensors were being repaired... They, it turns out, are simply filled with water (sealant - G...) and a microboard with a microcircuit floats in green liquid. You picked out the sealant, dried it, soldered in some small resistor - and voila - you saved $80 on each (and there are 8 of them).

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • Reliability
  • Invincibility

Weak sides:

  • Liquidity

Review of Citroen 2008 (Citroen C5) 2008

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2005 Part 2

Good evening to everyone reading.

It's been two years since I bought my c5 and haven't regretted my choice for a day. There are, of course, their downsides, but you don’t pay much attention to them, as, in principle, with all manufacturers it’s just a trifle! And I’m very pleased with the car.

I mostly drive around the city, but I also travel often, mostly to Ukraine. There are no roads, just one name. Citroen copes with them with ease, you don’t drive, but you float - the suspension works properly, for two years there has not been a single problem with it, during all this time only the tie rod end on the right and the ball on the right, consumables such as pads all around and discs.

Strengths:

  • Suspension, suspension and more suspension
  • Inexpensive service
  • Nice interior, comfortable seats, especially leather ones

Weak sides:

  • Lack of all-wheel drive

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2007

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2004

I bought a Citroen in 2007. Transferred from an American Ford Taurus g3. I came across the citron quite by accident; initially I wanted to change my tarasik to a more recent model, but by that time there weren’t many of them, and a good option didn’t turn up. I remembered a brand like Citroen and decided to look at what was offered at that time in the range of 500 thousand used cars on the market. I found an option, took it for a ride, and really liked it. So, I bought a 2004 model. restyling 2 liter 143 hp The suspension is soft, softer than the Americans, you can’t feel the bumps, it’s a very down-to-earth car, good sound insulation, but it didn’t move. All the French, except Renault, have a diesel engine, although it is gasoline. But, by the way, you can’t hear the diesel engine in the cabin, some kind of paradox.

I drove the Citron for about 40,000 km, I only changed the steering tip and scheduled maintenance. But before the sale, the suspension hydraulic pump failed. The service department immediately asked how often I raised and lowered the car. I replied that for the last 4 months, or even six months, I have not used the hydraulic suspension at all. This was where my mistake turned out to be. The only one in Moscow for 7 years of sales of the 5th citron, this pump basically broke down. The car needs to be raised and lowered, regardless of whether you need higher ground clearance or not, otherwise the liquid will stick and stagnate in the suspension. Therefore, once a week, use the up and down button, and back to the standard position. I bought a used pump, installed it, and then there were no problems at all.

I can say the following: all the work that is carried out on this car is practically planned. The ball joints are changed at 80 thousand km, the clutch lasts about 100 thousand, at 80 thousand the valve cover had to be changed due to frequent temperature changes, where the gasket can leak oil. It was possible to coat it with sealant, but I decided not to skimp. The gasket cannot be replaced separately; it is welded to the valve cover, which gives a clear adhesion, and not like on a Lada - don’t change it - everything still leaks. Be sure to warm up the car for at least 2 minutes. in summer and 5-7 minutes in winter. This way you protect yourself from eating oil. The passport clearly states 500 ml between scheduled maintenance, i.e. 20,000 km. To be honest, I only added oil once around 600ml.

Strengths:

  • Invincibility
  • Comfort
  • Many options in the database
  • Safety
  • Design
  • Suspension
  • Patency
  • Consumption
  • Large trunk
  • Great paint job

Weak sides:

  • Frequent replacement of light bulbs Sveta
  • No or very few unofficial services

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2005

This is the first car that made me feel human. A spacious interior, soft leather seats, and electric drive all around—this is something. For me, an inexperienced person, it was (and still is) a top-class car! The car was not new, about 78,000-80,000 km. mileage

But even speaking objectively, the obvious advantages are worth noting separately:

— smooth running;

Strengths:

  • Suspension (soft/hydroactive)
  • Comfort in the cabin
  • Luggage compartment volume
  • Control (with a calm driving style)

Weak sides:

  • Pretentiousness to consumables
  • The transmission is automatic (not in terms of reliability, but in terms of some thoughtfulness)

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2005

Hi all.

I’ve owned this car for a year and a half now and I’m very pleased, I’m happy with almost everything except the gearbox, it’s just very thoughtful, but you get used to it quickly. If anything, there is a sport mode, it works just great.

The engine is quiet, it doesn’t buzz at 4000 rpm, and the most important thing is the suspension. If you want, you can climb onto the curb; if you want, go into nature. And at the same time, the ride is very smooth, you drive along the highway like on a ship. I often travel to Ukraine, the roads there are simply terrible, but the C5 practically doesn’t notice them.

Strengths:

  • Suspension

Weak sides:

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2005

I decided to buy a car for my wife. Statement of the problem - a comfortable car with an automatic transmission of a rather large size, with a full set of safety equipment. The initial purchase option was an Audi A6 2.4 automatic transmission, 4-5 years. The option was dropped after examining several options due to poor technical condition, now there is a crisis, there is no money, and fresh cars start at a price tag of 950 thousand. Due to a number of prejudices, the French were not considered in principle, but the C5 attracted attention when I saw it in its maximum raised state - almost a jeep (clearance - 240mm). I decided to take a closer look. I was quite surprised by the quality of the interior, the availability of options and all sorts of useful things. I went for a test drive. I was even more amazed by the smooth ride and sound insulation. The inspection showed excellent technical condition and an ideal body; only the suspension with its unique Hidractiv3 raised doubts. I read the specialized forums of citravodists, about spheres and so on, I realized that there was nothing wrong there and decided to take it. The choice turned out to be correct. The design is original, what can I say, my madam liked it, and that’s the main thing. The SX package is almost complete, except for the sunroof, navigation, leather, power seats and lane marking monitoring system. Isofix, 9 airbags, including a knee airbag for the driver.

Pros of the car: the main feature is, of course, the suspension. Excellent smoothness - the strong point of citramon with hydra. Roughly similar to a Mercedes e-class. Dynamic clearance adjustment is a good thing - so far I have accelerated it to 160, it lies on the belly (140mm) and irons in a straight line, like a cruiser. There are no dives when braking, rolls in turns are minimal. When fully loaded, the ground clearance is automatically maintained unchanged. Parking and parking in front of the house is now no problem at all - I pressed the button twice and climbed onto any curb. Going out into nature is no longer a problem (clearance 240mm - up to 10km/h, 210mm - up to 40km/h). The steering wheel is light, “a bit empty at zero,” as journalists write, but it steers and drives very clearly along a given trajectory, and ESP is triggered very rarely.

Hatchback body, folding backrests flush with the floor = huge trunk. You can sleep without problems and transport large items. Moreover, you can “put” the body on the ground to make loading easier. Double galvanization of the body is a big plus. The interior dimensions are decent, about the same as a Camry, very high quality materials, a soft dashboard, excellent assembly, no crickets at all, despite the mileage. There is no central tunnel, the floor is flat, which is very convenient for the third passenger in the back. A bunch of drawers, niches (under the seats, in the dashboard, in the doors). The dual-zone climate control in auto mode is completely adequate and very quiet, with a humidity sensor in the cabin. Excellent profile of the seats, long “seat”, which is great for long-legged people, high-quality velor. All adjustments + folding armrests on the front seats. Cooled glove compartment, quite voluminous. Decent audio system (standard DLS).

Strengths:

  • Smooth ride
  • Excellent ergonomics
  • Very impressive appearance
  • Rich interior
  • Rich set
  • Possibility of increasing ground clearance
  • The climate control keeps the set temperature in the car perfectly and unobtrusively.

Weak sides:

  • The power steering fluid takes quite a long time to warm up (at temperatures below -12), the car warms up for about 10 minutes, and the steering wheel is still a bit stiff. The service explained this by the fact that the hydropneumatic suspension and the hydraulic suspension contain the same fluid, the volume is large - so it takes longer to warm up
  • The gas tank flap is opened with a key - you have to come up with something like that on a stuffed car
  • Somewhat thoughtful automatic transmission
  • When you try to open frozen glass, it doesn’t always work, because the power window force limiter is triggered, although this may be for the best - the motor won’t burn out

Review of Citroen C5 2.0 16V (Citroen C5) 2006

At speed it’s just a ship. There is no noise, no shaking, no rattling. Solid, big car. A 10-year-old child calmly stretches out to his full height in the back seat. The climate works in such a way that you don’t catch a cold. The dynamics were annoying at first, but then from 5-7 thousand it became playful and responded wonderfully. Someone says that the steering wheel is big, so let him buy “The Pride of the Domestic Automotive Industry” - a ten, put on a yellow steering wheel with a saucer, a thick exhaust pipe and feel like a car pilot! The steering wheel is very comfortable, you can turn it with 2 fingers. Some people don’t like the buttons on the panel, they say there are a lot of them and they’re not convenient - it’s a matter of taste. After all, some people buy mobile phones with large buttons, and others with small ones. The controls under the steering wheel are normal, I find it very comfortable. Everything can be done without being distracted from driving.

The upholstery is simply classy! High-quality velor (mine is light gray) does not get dirty. Of course, if you drive in dirty clothes, then anything is possible. The hydraulic suspension is a treasure; you are not afraid of bumps and potholes. Yes, light bulbs have to be changed often, but these are minor things. We are discussing at Atl*nt-M on Dmitrovka - it’s normal. You can even quickly consult and eliminate minor troubles in the form of the same light bulbs without recording. I've been to France several times. There Citroen is considered the most expensive and prestigious car, it is the city of the French. C5 is VERY small, because It's a very expensive car for them.

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • Reliability
  • Appearance

Weak sides:

  • Ill-conceived wiper system

In 2000, Citroen officially discontinued its two leading models at the time, the Xsara and XM. To replace them, a new car was created, combining elements of the brand’s classic design and new developments - the Citroen C5, for which 2001 was the debut year. And even though you won’t see representatives of the first generation on assembly lines now, they are not losing popularity.

It all started with the presentation of the C5 at the Paris Motor Show in 2000. Two modifications were shown at the exhibition - a hatchback and a station wagon. The design of the new products was radically different from other cars; the 2001 Citroen C5 was recognized by its sloping hood and windshield, oval radiator grille and rounded front bumper. The exterior turned out to be very unusual, especially for a car of the early 21st century.

But the car’s interior did not disappoint; three configurations were offered: X, SX and Exclusive. Each of them had an abundance of electronics - automatic adjustments, sensors, climate control, a powerful audio system. Even with minimal equipment, the range of functions was rich.

The 1st generation Citroen C5 is also remembered as the only D-class car using the Hydractive III hydropneumatic suspension. Many people know about its advantages - the car does not roll when cornering, there are no jerks during sharp acceleration, and its ability to lower the body at high speed, combined with the streamlined design of the Citroen, has significantly reduced fuel consumption. But the engine also helped with this. All C5s delivered to Russia were equipped with either a 3-liter gasoline unit or a 2.2-liter diesel unit. They are compatible with any type of gearbox.

For several more years, the Citroen C5 (2002, 2003) remained in its original form. In general, there was no need to change - the demand only increased. The 2002 Citroen C5 hatchback has become one of the most affordable D-class cars, although it cannot be called an ordinary representative of this cell. The 2003 Citroen C5 also performed well: the station wagon produced at that time earned recognition as one of the best family cars, because it combined spaciousness, comfort and power.

Meanwhile, developers began to think about changes. With all the success of the Citroen C5, 2003 was marked by the release of many new products from competitors, and updating the flagship was simply necessary. Ideas took a long time to form, and only in 2004 the first restyling was carried out.

Externally, the car has noticeably freshened up - the hood and front bumper have taken on a completely different look, but remain sloping as before. The radiator grille has also changed slightly and now better emphasizes the slanting headlights. The rear of the 2004 Citroen C5 has been transformed and stretched out a little. This, firstly, increased the volume of the luggage compartment and, secondly, made the hatchback more like a sedan, that is, the new car could rather be classified as a liftback; it looked very representative.

The power qualities have also been modified. The suspension was replaced with a new generation of hydropneumatics, the range of engines was expanded - first by half, and later the 2005 Citroen C5 could already boast of 6 variants of power units, with a volume of up to three liters. Fuel consumption has also decreased. For example, pre-restyling cars consumed an average of 9 liters; in the Citroen C5 2005 version, costs decreased by almost 14%, to 7.8 l/100km. With such updates, the car was really able to compete even with fundamentally new developments from other companies - for the Citroen C5, 2006 became a very busy year, but the cars produced during this period no longer pleased with their usual reliability. Perhaps the different method of assembling the body had an effect, but the sound insulation in the 2006 Citroen left much to be desired. Less than a year has passed since it was decided to improve its design.

And again, the reason for the update was the drop in sales of the 2007 Citroen C5, the concern began work on creating a new version of the car. But the developers’ plans took on new dimensions, and a year later the world saw not just an updated Citroen C5; 2007 became the starting point for the new, second generation. Production of these cars started in 2008.

The prices for these cars are quite low, so it will be interesting to figure out how feasible it is to purchase this car.

The body of the Citroen C5 is very good, galvanized, with a high-quality paint and varnish coating, it resists rust perfectly. A red coating may appear on chrome elements over time after 3-4 years of use. As for the interior, it can remain in excellent shape for a long time, nothing creaks, the seats do not sit out or become loose.

Hydraulic suspension

This is the third generation of the Citroen C5, it has an improved air suspension, it has become more functional, but in design terms it has also become simpler: previously there were mechanical body position regulators, now instead of them there are electronic position regulators. This means that there are fewer different hoses and tubes under the bottom of the car, now even on a bad road it will not be possible to damage a single line.

But there are still hoses, at the joints of which working fluid appears. The 3rd generation of Hydractive suspension must be filled with orange synthetic LDS fluid, which does not freeze even in extreme cold. True, this fluid needs to be changed once every 60,000 km. mileage. In the last generation, green mineral liquid LHM was used, since it was not particularly frost-resistant.

In the previous generation, the hydraulic pump was powered by the engine and at the same time served the power steering and brakes, but in the Citroen C5 the electrically driven hydraulic pump now works only for the suspension. If you operate the car correctly, the hydraulic pump can easily last about 200000 km. Driving with a maximum ground clearance of 23 cm reduces the service life of the hydraulic pump. If the hydraulic pump fails, this does not mean that the car will not be able to drive, it will be able to drive, but only with a ground clearance of 9 cm. This is the minimum ground clearance for the Citroen C5, if you drive With such a low ground clearance, there is a high probability of damaging the struts. To change the hydraulic pump you have to pay about 630 euros.

There are times when the suspension control unit or its position sensors break down. Then the system will notify you about this - a warning will appear on the on-board computer screen indicating that the suspension is faulty. In this case, the machine can squat or rise on its own, the nose can simply rise, but the feed does not, or vice versa. But such a case is quite rare.

In the Citroen C5, the role of elastic parts and pressure accumulators is played by spheres; they are made of metal, in the shape of balls, with nitrogen under high pressure inside them. They are quite reliable and usually serve about 150,000 km. Over time, nitrogen can evaporate through the membrane, which transfers nitrogen pressure to the oil, and then the suspension will begin to “tan.” In a given car there may be 5 or 6 of these spheres, it depends on the configuration. But even if at least one sphere becomes empty, it will be impossible to drive, because the hydraulic shocks will quickly damage the bypass valves of the struts and other suspension parts. The racks cannot be repaired, they can only be replaced, each rack costs 100 euros. New original spheres will cost about 100 euros each, but if you take a non-original one, you can save about 25%.

As for other parts in the suspension, it is advisable to pay attention to the subtle clicking and creaking of the roller bearings of the trailing arms at the rear of the suspension. As a rule, they can appear after 80000 km. If you ignore these sounds, then after about 20,000 km. these bearings, which cost only 25 euros, will break their seats, and the levers, which cost 500 euros, will have to be replaced. There are also boots on the bearings; if you take care of their safety, the service life of the bearings will be significantly extended.

After approximately 60 thousand km. the time will come to change the stabilizer bushings and their struts. The bushings cost 12 euros and the struts cost 40 euros. After 80,000 km. mileage, you will have to change the tie rods along with the tips, the tie rods will cost 35 euros, and the tips - 40. It happens that for this mileage it is necessary to change the wheel bearings for 80 euros. Next, you may need to replace the silent blocks of the levers; each side will cost 45 euros. Also, ball joints will require replacement; they cost 35 euros, as a rule, they can last about 100,000 km. But the steering mechanism can last about 200,000 km, but replacing it will cost 1000 euros.

It is also advisable to take care of the brakes: if you do not regularly clean the calipers, they will begin to sour from road dirt after about 6 years. Already after 80,000 km. it is necessary to change the brake discs on the front wheels, they begin to warp at this mileage, the front pads need to be changed every 40,000 km. Brake discs cost about 170 euros per pair. The handbrake locks the front wheels, but sometimes the handbrake cables get stuck, causing the brakes to overheat.

Even in a manual transmission, the cables are also a weak link; they often have to be replaced if the plastic ends jam or break. Each cable in the box costs 50 euros. It happens that by 80 thousand km. The release bearing begins to crunch, which means that it is better to change it as soon as possible, because if it wears out too much, it can break and damage the clutch completely, as well as the crankshaft position sensor. Still in the transmission after 100,000 km. The right wheel drive shaft bearing may crackle. In general, a manual transmission will last about 200 thousand km. But its weakest link is the plastic parts in the speed selection mechanism.

But there can also be problems with the automatic transmission on the Citroen C5. The AL4 gearbox from PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Renault is installed here. This is their joint development. This box does not like to be loaded until it is warmed up. Also, this machine requires that the oil level be normal, and you can only check it by lifting the car using a lift. There is a control plug there. And already after 80000 km. mileage the time comes to change the hydraulic valve block, such an event will cost 450 euros including work. ZF 6-speed automatic transmissions are considered more reliable. They are installed on cars with 3-liter engines. Aisin gearboxes, which are installed on diesel engines, are also quite reliable.

There are very few diesel Citroen C5s in Russia. If 3-liter gasoline engines are quite reliable, then diesel engines begin to create problems for their owners after 150,000 km. thanks to Russian fuel. Injectors and high pressure fuel pumps fail.

Also, fuel pumps do not last long on 2-liter gasoline versions with direct injection. In addition, spare parts for their repair are difficult to find. Also, the 1.8-liter versions are not very popular. Basically, Citroens C5 with a 2-liter engine are the most popular.

These low-power engines used to have problems with ignition in the cold. But the problem was resolved - the motor control unit was reprogrammed. After 100,000 km. Oxygen sensors often broke down. And after 150 thousand km. neutralizers failed. Also, ignition coils do not last long, and it makes sense to change the spark plugs themselves at every service.

It often happens that after 80000 km. The lower support of the engine fails and the rear crankshaft oil seal needs to be replaced. Once every 70,000 km. It is advisable to clean the throttle body and idle air valve.

Don’t forget about the cooling system; it happens that radiators, which cost 290 euros, leak, and cooling fans do not cope well with road dirt. And closer to 100,000 km. The thermostat and the pump pumping coolant may fail. In addition, one of the reasons for overheating may be a sensor that monitors the level of coolant in the tank. If the mount breaks off. The plastic fasteners on the window lift mechanism are also not particularly durable. Especially if you lower a glass that is frozen, this fastener may break in the place where the drive cable is fixed.

To avoid breaking the weak plastic hood lock lever, you must open the hood carefully.

To change the lamps, you need to remember that the left headlight must be changed after the battery is removed, and the right headlight must be changed without seeing it, because the suspension hydraulic pump obscures the view.

In addition, rather fragile plastic is also used in the gears of the speedometer gear motor. If these gears break, the speedometer needle will begin to jerk or fall. To fix this, you will have to buy a new entire instrument panel for 500 euros. By the way, the arrow can lie if it has moved on the axis during shaking. It often happens that the resistor washer fluid level sensor does not show accurate data. It is better to use Total branded antifreeze liquid. If you fill it with regular tap water, it will damage the washer pump.

And when it’s dry, it’s better not to use wipers, because the windshield is quite soft and will immediately become covered with scratches. A new glass like this will cost 250 euros. It may also happen that the rain sensors begin to malfunction, after which the wipers may begin to work dry and damage the windshield. And on cars produced before restyling, there were very often cases where rear windows were replaced under warranty and simply shattered. After restyling, the rear windows were strengthened.

In general, there is no need to be afraid to buy Citroen C5 on the secondary market, although it is not the most reliable car, this car does not create serious expensive problems either.
The Hydractive suspension may begin to require attention only after 120,000 km. And repairing this suspension is not particularly expensive. The best option for purchase is a 2-liter engine with a manual transmission. And for those who want an automatic, they should definitely choose modifications with a 3-liter V6 engine. Moreover, these modifications become cheaper the fastest.

For example, an 8-9 year old restyled version can be bought for about 500,000 rubles. A station wagon, for which they ask no more than a hatchback, can also be considered a bargain. But the most popular Citroen C5 are versions with a 2-liter engine aged 8-9 years. Such cars will cost approximately 400,000 - 480,000 rubles. Well, the cheapest modifications are those with a 1.8-liter engine; they cost about 40,000 less than the 2-liter versions.
