Hyundai Tucson general information (Hyundai Tussan / Tucson)
For the first time, Hyundai Tucson SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), which means "car for outdoor activities" (in Russia, cars of this class are called crossovers), was shown in February 2004 at an exhibition in Chicago, and its official premiere took place in March 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is produced at the Hyundai Motor Company plant located in the city of Ulsan (South Korea). In addition to this, the company plans to start production of the Tucson car in 2008 in the city of Nosovice (Czech Republic). In the European market, Hyundai Tucson cars are offered in GL, GLS and LX trim levels.
Only the GLS configuration with three equipment levels is supplied to Russia. The basic equipment package includes a power window for all doors, velor or leather interior, automatic climate control, central locking, a self-dimming rear-view mirror with a built-in compass, an air quality control system, automatic control of external lighting (automatic headlights on), alloy wheels , electrically heated mirrors and front seats, engine compartment protection. For a surcharge, cruise control, fog lights, roof rails are installed.
The body is of the station wagon type, bearing, all-metal, welded structure with hinged front fenders, doors, hood and tailgate. For the Russian market, Hyundai Tucson cars are equipped with two gasoline engines located across the engine compartment: a four-cylinder in-line DOHC engine with a working volume of 2.0 liters and a six-cylinder V6 with a working volume of 2.7 liters. The 2.0-liter TCI diesel engine provided by the design is supplied only to the American and European markets. On cars for the Russian market with a DOHC engine, a 5-speed manual transmission is installed, and with a V6 engine, a 4-speed sequential (with the possibility of manual control) automatic transmission SHIFTRONIC. Both gearboxes are interlocked with transfer cases, since cars are supplied to Russia only with permanent front-wheel drives and with automatically connected all-wheel drives of the Torque-on-Demand type, equipped with an electronically controlled interaxle clutch (with the possibility of manual locking) from Borg-Warner for connecting the rear wheels. In addition, not all-wheel drive cars (only with front-wheel drive) are supplied to the European market, but only front-wheel drive ones to the American market. Front suspension of MacPherson type, independent, spring, with anti-roll bar, with hydraulic shock-absorber struts. The rear suspension is independent, spring, multi-link, with anti-roll bar, with hydraulic shock-absorber struts.
The brakes of all wheels are disc with a floating caliper, and the discs of the front brakes are ventilated. Parking brake drum mechanisms are built into the rear wheel brakes. All vehicles are equipped with anti-lock brakes (ABS) with optional Traction Control System (TCS) and Dynamic Stability Control (ESP).
The steering is injury-free, with a gear-rack-type steering mechanism with a variable gear ratio, equipped with a hydraulic booster. The steering column is tilt adjustable. A front airbag is installed in the steering wheel hub (as well as in front of the front passenger). Additionally (by order), side airbags are installed for the driver and front passenger, as well as inflatable curtains located on both sides of the ceiling above the front and rear doors. Hyundai Tucson cars are equipped with a centralized control system for door locks with locking of all doors with a key on the driver's door, as well as a button on the key fob. All vehicles are equipped with inertia diagonal seat belts for the driver, front passenger and rear seat passengers.
Design features
On Hyundai Tucson cars intended for the Russian market, transversely located gasoline four-stroke injection engines are installed: a four-cylinder 16-valve in-line model G4GC (DOHC, 142 hp) with a displacement of 2.0 liters and a six-cylinder 24-valve V-shaped mod. G6BA (V6, 175 hp) with a working volume of 2.7 liters. The G4GC engine is equipped with a variable valve timing system for intake valves (CVVT). This section describes in detail the design and repair methods of the engine. The G4GC engine is the most widely installed on cars. The design and some aspects of maintenance and repair of the G6BA engine are given in a separate section "Design features of the G6BA engine".
The G4GC overhead camshaft engine has four valves per cylinder. The exhaust camshaft is driven by a reinforced toothed belt. Belt tension is provided by a tension roller. The intake camshaft is driven by the CVVT sprocket on the exhaust camshaft by a single-row roller chain tensioned by a spring tensioner. The valves are driven directly from the camshafts through cylindrical pushers, in the upper grooves of which calibrated washers are installed, which serve as adjusting elements for the clearances in the drive.
Lubrication system - design features
The lubrication system is combined: the most loaded parts are lubricated under pressure, and the rest are lubricated either by directed splashing, or by splashing oil flowing out of the gaps between the mating parts. The pressure in the lubrication system is generated by a gear oil pump mounted externally at the front of the cylinder block and driven from the front end of the crankshaft. The pump is made with internal trochoidal gearing.
The pump sucks oil from the engine oil sump through an oil receiver with a strainer, and then, through a full-flow oil filter with a porous paper filter element, supplies it to the main oil line located in the cylinder block body. The oil supply channels to the main bearings of the crankshaft depart from the main line. Oil is supplied to the connecting rod bearings through channels made in the crankshaft body. From the main oil line there is a vertical oil supply channel to the camshaft bearings. In addition, oil is supplied under pressure from the main oil line of the engine to the variable valve timing system and to the intake camshaft chain tensioner.
To lubricate the camshaft bearings, oil from the vertical channel enters the central axial channels of the camshafts through a radial hole in the journal of one of the bearings and is distributed along them to the rest of the bearings. The camshaft cams are lubricated with oil coming from the center axle channels through the radial holes in the cams. Excess oil is drained from the block head into the oil sump through vertical drain channels. Changing the engine oil and oil filter is described in "Maintenance", "Changing the engine oil and oil filter", removal and installation of the oil pump are discussed in the next subsection.
