Where BMW cars are made. History of the BMW company. Famous BMW X5

Luxury, high quality and prestige are the symbols of BMW cars. A large number of car lovers sleep and see themselves as the owner of a car produced in German factories. Any company that has achieved success and has become a real legend, anxiously guards its technologies and innovative ideas. The same can be said about BMW: the management of the concern keeps its secrets with seven seals. But still there is an opportunity to get to the plant. Everyone can see with their own eyes how BMW cars are being assembled in Germany.

Where else is BMW assembled?

The main production facilities are located in Germany and the USA. In addition, cars are assembled in other countries: Egypt, Thailand, South Africa, India, Malaysia, Russia. Basically, in these countries, the assembly of ready-made elements of the future car takes place. But not all parts are made in Germany. Many components are produced by other enterprises located in different parts of the world. For example, rear optics are made in Italy, and rims are made in Sweden. Automotive leather for interiors is ordered from South Africa. Oddly enough, automatic gearboxes are made in Japan. More than 600 firms and companies are supplied to Bavarian factories.

All key factories are located in Germany. In Berlin, motorcycles are produced by firms of all modifications. BMW 1 Series, Coupe 2 Series, BMW X1, BMW i3, BMW i8, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer are assembled in Leipzig. The motors are produced on the outskirts of the old town of Regensburg. It is just an hour's drive from Munich.

Assembling BMW 3 Series in Germany

The main manufacturer is located in Munich on the Bavarian soil. BMW 3 series is assembled here. When entering the city, tourists are greeted by a huge building. It rises many floors up. The architectural complex consists of four interconnected cylinders. There is a museum and a huge exhibition hall near the Bayerische Motoren Werk AG skyscraper. Its roof is decorated with a huge corporate emblem, which is familiar to all motorists. The entrance to the museum is absolutely free. Anyone can get acquainted with the history of BMW cars, touch the real legend of the world automobile industry.

The total area of the Munich plant is several hundred hectares. The scale of production is such that it is not possible to visit the entire plant even in 2 hours. There are pressing, welding, painting, assembly shops and a small test track here. The plant has built its own heating main, a substation and a restaurant. In total, the plant employs 6,700 people. With their help, more than 170 thousand BMWs are produced per year.

On the territory of the Bavarian factories, everything is very strict, the movement of strangers on the territory is allowed only as part of excursion groups under the guidance of a guide. You can drive a car at a speed of up to 30 km / h. The local police have the right, in case of violation of the established rules, to prohibit the entry of personal vehicles into the territory of the plant for a period of 2 months or more.

Press

BMW production begins in the press shop. You won't see workers here, everything is automated. At the entrance to the machine, rolled metal. A minute later, a finished part comes out from under the press. For the manufacture of various elements of the body, metal of different thicknesses is used. All this is controlled by a computer system.

Series production of BMW parts

Welding

The next stage is the welding shop. Stamped parts are sent for welding. A large number of robots work quickly and smoothly in a small area. Their metal arms are literally a couple of millimeters apart. The whole process is calculated in seconds. The body of the future car appears before our very eyes. Then he goes on. The next stage is priming and galvanizing.

Painting

The work of robots in the paint shop is an engineering marvel. The prepared body is painted by a dozen manipulators, they themselves open the doors, hood and trunk lid. The most surprising thing: the robot submitted the next body for painting, the car is painted green, the next body can be painted in a completely different color, for example, red or white. All this without stopping and any flushing of spray guns.

The air temperature in the workshop is approximately 90-100 degrees Celsius. The painting uses the property of particles that have charges of different poles. It is known from the course of school physics that they are attracted. The car body has a "-" and the paint has a "+". In this case, the paintwork is perfectly flat. Then the body is sent to the oven so that the paint and varnish are completely dry. A multicolored river flows under the conveyor. This is process water, with the help of it, paint particles are collected that did not get on the body. It is then cleaned and returned to the paint shop for reuse.

Assembly

In the assembly shop, 90% of the operations are performed by human hands. There are only 10 robots to build here. They are used to install heavy elements and assemblies. The following are installed in turn:

  • engines with attachments;
  • suspension and steering mechanism are assembled;
  • installs electrical wiring;
  • interior elements are mounted: carpet, seats, panel, rear shelf.

Only highly qualified personnel work in this workshop. In order not to get confused in such a huge amount of details, computers help people. For each model, picking maps have been drawn up, the delivery system has been worked out with German precision: one mistake, and the whole process can stop.

Management encourages staff training. The motto is: "If you want to get more - study." Many workers can perform various operations. They are periodically placed on different assembly areas during one shift. This improves performance a lot.

For comparison, the assembly of an Italian Fiat car takes 22 hours, but a Rolls-Royce car goes from workshop to workshop within 2 weeks.

Final build and test

At the last stage, the installation of optional equipment, performance check and test of all systems and devices of the finished car takes place. It takes 32 hours to make one BMW car. 22 liters of gasoline or diesel are poured into the tank, and the car is sent on a special platform to the warehouse. But there she does not stay long and goes straight to the customer. The ready-made car park can only accommodate 3,000 cars. The approximate time from ordering to receiving a brand new BMW is 40-50 days.

All technological lines are constantly being modified. Maintenance of conveyors, robots and manipulators runs parallel to production. The plant closes once a year for maintenance, which lasts 3 weeks. The average salary of an employee of the plant is 2.5 thousand euros. In addition, the management of the concern encourages new ideas and inventions and does not skimp on paying bonuses for this.

How to visit the BMW factory?

Anyone can sign up for an excursion to the plant of the Bavarian giant. All you need to do is to book a place in the group through the official BMW website. A 2.5-hour tour costs 8 euros per tourist. You will be guided from start to finish. A visit to the factory floor inspires delight and admiration for the power of engineering. If you do not have the opportunity to personally come to Germany, you can watch a virtual 15-minute tour on the BMW website.

BMW undoubtedly produces high-quality and reliable cars that almost everyone dreams of buying. The BMW X5 is rightfully considered the crown of the skill of German designers.

This SUV is luxurious, prestigious and reliable. It has won the trust and love of consumers from all over the world. Moreover, this car is not at all as expensive as its counterparts from the segment. It is also good that a company that has achieved such success in the market, like the Bavarians, preserves the quality of its cars. Therefore, it is completely unprofitable for them that their inventions are of poor quality.

When buying a German SUV, you will be confident in its reliability. But, it would be nice to find out where the BMW X5 is assembled. It is this question that we decided to raise in our article.

What happened to the plans to release the BMW X5 in Russia

In general, the main factories for the assembly of the BMW X5 are located in:

  • Germany;
  • America;
  • Thailand;
  • Egypt;
  • India;
  • Malaysia.

BMW X5 is assembled for our consumers in Germany and Russia. Cars of our production leave the assembly line of the Avtotor plant. In 2009, the idea was voiced to open a German company’s own enterprise in our country. But, unfortunately, it was postponed indefinitely. The head of the concern insisted on this.

It turned out that the current unfavorable situation in Russia influenced the fact that the sales of the Bavarians fell by 40%. On the one hand, our market remains a priority for the concern. But, no one can predict how things will turn out in the future. Everyone is inclined to believe that things will not improve. Therefore, the question of building a new plant is in the air.

At the end of last year, only 37.3 thousand cars were sold by our car dealerships. About 30% of them are BMW X5. This is due to the devaluation of the ruble. Also, in this regard, the manufacturer has raised the cost of all its machines. Moreover, this was done several times. The price increase ranged from 2 to 6.5 percent, depending on the model and configuration. But, at the Avtotor plant, production has already been established quite well. By the way, more than half of all cars sold last year were produced here.

As for the Bavarians' own enterprise in Kaliningrad, it should have been opened in 2016. According to the latest calculations, 1.5 billion euros were to be spent on its construction. Half of the cost was planned to be assigned to Avtotor. At the same time, the volume of production was supposed to be one thousand cars per year for each model at first.

It is interesting that the first BMW car left the assembly line of the plant in Kaliningrad in 1999. It was in that year that our engineers produced 554 more vehicles. But in 2008 more than six thousand models came out from here.
Half of them were BMW X5. The cost for a complete set of the Russian assembly at the moment ranges from 3,415,000 rubles to 5,040,000 rubles.
In 2014, when a new restyled version of the SUV was presented, its assembly immediately began in Germany and Russia.

She received a redesigned front end of the body, an innovative lighting system, a modified rear bumper and a large flat screen in the cabin. Also, the rear seat can now be folded in the proportions 40 to 20 to 40. The BMW X5 of our assembly is offered in four trim levels. They are named xDrive25d, xDrive30d, xDrive40d and xDrive35i. Three of them are available with diesel engines, and one with gasoline.

How is the assembly of the BMW X5 at a German plant

Most buyers of BMW X5 dream of having an SUV assembled not in Kaliningrad, but in Germany. Fortunately, this is possible, because most of the cars exhibited in Russian car dealerships are made there. And now we will tell you exactly how jeeps are produced there. By the way, anyone can see it with their own eyes. After all, a visit to the plant is absolutely open for everyone.

Let's say right away that all the parts for the crossover are made in Germany. But, the rear optics are produced by an enterprise in Italy, the wheels are supplied from Sweden, the gearboxes are brought from Japan, and the leather for the interior is from South Africa. The entire car is assembled in Munich.

The huge multi-storey building consists of four cylinders, which are connected by passages. There is a showroom next to it where you can see the history of the company. You can enter here absolutely free. The production employs about 6,700 people, and they produce more than 170 thousand cars a year.
The territory of the plant is several hundred hectares. There is a painting, welding and assembly shop. Also, engineers made a section of the track on which cars are checked.

There are no workers in the pressing shop. Only robots work here. Metal rolls are supplied here. Under the press, it turns into finished parts. The control here is done by computers.

Then everything is delivered to the welding shop. Here the stamped parts are welded by the same robots. From here comes the finished body, which is given for galvanizing and priming. It is painted with manipulators that can open the trunk lid, hood and doors. Our factories can only dream of this. After all, cars are painted non-stop in different colors. The air temperature here ranges from 90 to 100 degrees Celsius. The fact is that the body has a minus charge, and the paint is plus. Therefore, the coating fits perfectly. Next, the painted body is sent to the oven. It dries there.

The assembly shop is the first place to see people. More than 90% of operations are performed by them. There are only 10 robots here. They install heavy machines. First, the engines are mounted, then the suspension is assembled, and then the electrics are installed. In the end, the interior is done, such as the seats, center panel and carpet.

Of course, computers help people at this stage. Each car has a compiled map with a list of complete sets. If even one mistake is made, the whole process stops. So much for German precision.

The last stage is a test drive. It takes about 32 hours for one car. After the performance of the model is checked, exactly 22 liters of fuel are poured into the tank and sent to the warehouse. From there, it is directed to the consumer, that is, to the car dealer.

This is how it is - the BMW X5 assembly plant. We hope that we have helped you figure out which vehicle to buy.

With a capital letter. Stylish, safe, powerful, comfortable and bright. The list of adjectives goes on and on. But among them there will be no cheap and simple ones. BMW has many factories, and even more branches where cars are assembled. Is there a non-German BMW? After all, the latest models are assembled even in Russia. Let's understand this issue more thoroughly. We will definitely remember the history of the company, where it all began, the lineup, features and, of course, the place of assembly.

Main capacities of "BMW"

All main production facilities are located in Germany at BMW. The country of manufacture of the famous brand car is, of course, also Germany. But only if they are made in factories in Munich, Regensburg, Dingolfing or Leipzig. Indeed, today BMWs are also assembled in India, Thailand, China, Egypt, USA, South African Republic and Russia. In total, there are 22 non-German BMW enterprises.

Build quality is determined by default by the main country of origin - Germany. What is being done to preserve the originality of the assembly?

1. Cars in BMW branches are produced from ready-made units supplied directly from factories in Germany.

2. Constant control of the quality of the car assembly, the quality of the qualifications of the service personnel from the center.

3. Regular professional development of branch employees.

A small excursion into the history of the BMW brand

The beginning was laid in the early 20s of the last century. 1913 is considered the year of foundation, and in 1917 the activities of the company were recorded - aircraft engines. Yes, yes, BMW initially had a slightly different profile than today's. Wartime has left its mark. But after the end of hostilities, the production of aircraft engines was banned.

In order to somehow survive, the company's management decided to release motorcycles. Since 1923, BMW has been making light motorcycles. There was a time when motorcycles were also banned, and factories were interrupted by orders for bicycles and tools. However, the hard times are coming to an end. Since 1948, BMW has continued to produce motor vehicles, and since 1951, the first post-war car, the BMW 501, has been produced.

Since the end of the 50s, the BMW company, the country of origin of which is Germany, has entered the production of sports cars. By actively participating in races, BMW products take prizes, thereby increasing its popularity. In 1975, the development of the third family "BMW" - E21 begins.

How to understand BMW models

For almost 100 years of development of the company, a huge number of cars have been developed and produced. BMW has 9 so-called families only. Among them are the most popular and numerous:

  • 3rd series;
  • 5th series;
  • 7th series;
  • X-series.

In each family, cars are subdivided according to their bodies. For example, in the 3 series, the first model in 1975 was the E21. And only in 1982 it was replaced by the E30 body. To make it even clearer, consider the E21 model 320i. Here 3 is the family or series number; 20 is the displacement of a 2.0 liter engine and the letter "i" stands for a fuel injection engine. 320 has only a carburetor engine, most often from Solex.

The stylistic features of the models can most often be distinguished only by professionals, therefore, for a complete identification of the BMW car, it is recommended to look at the documents. Vin auto gives all the necessary information on the model, engine, and also opens access to the component parts in the original catalogs. What "BMW", what country of origin - these and other questions can be answered in the documents and under the hood of the car.

Separate representatives are machines of the Z and M series. These families have their own special numbering and identification, due to their special industries. The Technik division develops prototypes, and the M is the M designation for the Motorsport division. There is also an American company BMW and two luxury coupe models L7 and L6 produced by it. Outwardly, they can be confused with the 7th suite in the 23rd body. However, these are 6-series models, with a lot of additional options, released specifically for the US domestic market.

The most famous and popular BMW

The most famous BMW car, the country of origin of which is the real Germany, can be considered the Z8. This car was produced for less than 5 years, had the classic look of the roadster of the past 507 years, but with a modern filling. The Z8 got its incredible popularity for being in the movie "And the whole world is not enough". For the movie, the car was further refined and turned into a real spy car.

The most popular "BMW", according to reviews, is the model of the 3rd series in 46 body. The maximum number of these cars was sold. The third family of the company was the best-selling in 2014. Almost 477 thousand buyers have chosen exactly 3 series.

Latest news from "BMW"

The company of the renowned German car manufacturer BMW continues to develop new masterpieces for its fans and connoisseurs. Among the novelties of recent years, the 740LE should be noted - a car with a hybrid engine and all-wheel drive. In the combined cycle, such a car should consume no more than 2.5 liters of fuel per 100 km.

For Russians, the Russian-assembled BMW X1 has become available. The car is presented in 3 fixed configurations. As options, you can choose from either a diesel power unit of 150 "horses", or a gasoline engine of 192 "horses" with a volume of 2.0 liters.

Among the 7s, the 760Li is especially noticeable. This "BMW", the country of origin of which is only Germany, is distinguished by a very powerful engine of 609 liters. With. with a volume of 6.6 liters. The maximum speed of the car is hardware limited to 250 km / h, but it is possible to accelerate to the first 100 km / h in only 3.7 seconds.

The X family now has a real leader - the top model X4 M40i. The gasoline unit of the new car has 360 "horses" and 3 liters of volume. Intelligent four-wheel drive ensures axle load distribution. In case of slipping, the front axle is connected to the main rear axle. An 8-speed automatic transmission and electronically self-adjusting dampers provide the ultimate driving experience for the new X4.

Famous BMW X5

The BMW X5 car is extremely popular in Russia. This is due to a whole bunch of nice features:

  • Four-wheel drive.
  • Stylish and solid design of the model.
  • Impressive performance.
  • Reliability and quality from "BMW", the country of origin of which was originally Germany.

The last update of the model, which took place in 2013 (F15), turned out to be with larger body dimensions and more environmentally friendly engines. There are 2 petrol and 2 diesel power units. A stronger gasoline engine has a volume of 4.4 liters and a power of 450 liters. sec., while the smaller one is 3.0 liters and 306 liters. With. Turbocharged diesel engines are made in volumes of 3 and 2 liters with more modest 258 and 218 "horses", respectively. All variants of the X5 F15 are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Popular today "BMW X5" (manufacturer - country Germany or Russia) sells well in the secondary car market.

"BMW X6"

Right after the X5, BMW launched the next variant of the all-wheel-drive crossover of the X-car family. And already at the end of 2014, a modified version was released under the F16 index. Initially, the car did not take root in Russian circles. This could be due to the positive perception of the previous model. Well, the Russians liked the X5. But gradually auto sales began to grow, and the X6 began to gain momentum. What attracts attention to this sample from BMW?

The exterior of the car has aggressive and sporty notes. Power units with each model are more and more refined in order to increase power and reduce fuel consumption. Suspension car multi-link with electronically controlled shock absorbers. There are several modes for optimal handling on any road surface. Interior innovations include a projection screen. In general, "BMW X6", the country of origin of which is real Germany, is still valued more than the same car, but assembled in Russia.

"Mini Cooper" from "BMW"

The Mini Cooper is one of the not quite standard solutions of BMW. Coming off the assembly line in 2002, it became the second birth of the legendary British car in its time. Everything that BMW is doing is of high quality, reliable and powerful. This mini-car was no exception.

Several options for gasoline and diesel power units accelerate the car over 200 km / h. "Baby" is surprisingly playful and powerful. For example, a 1.6-liter gasoline engine has a capacity of 184 hp. With. Good grip creates a slightly stiff suspension. Fuel consumption is also poor. In general, the car has a special charm and, undoubtedly, finds its fans. After all, this is the second birth of the legend - "Mini Cooper". The manufacturer is a country in which BMW feels at home, not always Germany.

Features of the Russian assembly

As for the Russian assembly of BMW, it is handled by the Kaliningrad enterprise Avtotor. Almost the entire X-family is assembled here: X1, X3, X5 and X6. Russian-assembled BMWs are no different from the original. After all, the assembly is carried out on German equipment, according to German standards and under control. But the main thing is that cars are assembled from ready-made assemblies.

Today the questions: “Who makes BMW? What is the country of origin? " - no unambiguous answer can be given. BMW has 27 factories around the world. The quality of production is at the highest level everywhere. At the same time, there are no automated assembly lines in production. This step is always done manually by specialists.

Conclusion

The history of the BMW company shows that with due effort and striving to achieve new results, it gives its "fruits". Several times this company was on the verge of bankruptcy, but each time it flourished again. Today BMW is one of the most renowned and successful car manufacturers in the world. Only Toyota, apart from it, can boast of such a fact as a constant annual increase in profits.

The country of origin of BMW cars was originally Germany. At the same time, the quality and reliability of vehicles produced by subsidiaries remain at the same high level.

From 2019, Russia will start assembling Mercedes cars. The enterprise will be built in the Esipovo industrial park, about 40 km from Moscow. The plant, in which at least 250 million euros are invested, will assemble E-class sedans and crossovers. The plant will become the seventeenth enterprise in Russia where passenger cars are mass-produced. On the occasion, Autonews.ru has drawn up a map of the country's largest car factories, with foreign cars coming off the assembly line.

What cars are assembled in Russia

The times when the domestic auto industry offered buyers only a few brands of cars have long gone into history. "Moskvich", "Zhiguli" and "Volga" - these are, perhaps, all the main manufacturers of vehicles of the Soviet era. Today the number of passenger cars produced in Russia has grown many times over and is represented not only by domestic cars, but also by famous BMW, Volkswagen, Toyota and others. So what kind of cars are produced on the territory of modern Russia?

Since the distant 1999, the world famous BMW company was the first foreign manufacturer to start production of the BMW 3 Series at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. Today, several of the most popular models are manufactured there, including the BMW X3, X5, X6 crossovers and the BMW 3 and 5 Series passenger sedans.

In 2007, the Volkswagen Group Rus plant began operating in the Kaluga Region. The first car produced here is the Volkswagen Passat. Then the production of Polo and Touareg was mastered. A year later, the production of Jetta and Tiguan was established. Today the Golf and Variant, Passat and Passat CC, Touareg and Tiguan, Polo, Caddy and Transporter are assembled here. In addition to Volkswagen cars, some Skoda models are also produced here: Octavia, Fabia, Fabia Combi, Superb, Yeti, Roomster and Superb Combi.

The famous German Audi is part of the Volkswagen Group and also manufactures its cars in the Kaluga region. Today, assembly of Audi A1, A4, A5, A6, Q5 and Q7 SUVs is carried out in Kaluga.

South Korean KIA Motors also did not bypass the Russian market. Cars under its logo are assembled at two enterprises - Avtotor in Kaliningrad and IzhAvto in Izhevsk. The first KIA cars made in Russia were Carnival and Magentis. Today, almost the entire line of these South Korean cars is manufactured at these two factories: Rio, Cee'd, Soul, Sportage 3, Carens and others.

The Russian history of the Korean Hyundai begins in 2001. The production of cars of this brand is established at the plant in Taganrog. The first model assembled here was the Hyundai Accent. In addition to the main production in Taganrog, several Hyundai models are made in the Leningrad Region. These two factories today not only produce passenger cars Sonata, Elantra XD, Accent, Solaris, Santa Fe SUV, County buses, Aero Town, but also heavy trucks Porter and Hyundai HD 500.

Renault cars have been produced since 1998 at the capital enterprise "Avtoframos", created thanks to the fruitful cooperation of the Moscow Government and the Renault concern. Today several models are produced here: Fluence, Logan, Megane, Sandero and Duster.

Since 2007, in the village of Shushary, located not far from St. Petersburg, Toyota has opened its own car-building plant, which assembles only one model - the Camry sedan. The Land Cruiser Prado off-road vehicle is being manufactured at the facilities of the Far Eastern joint venture "Sollers-Bussan".

Besides Toyota, we also assemble other brands of Japanese cars. Mitsubishi Outlander is produced in the Kaluga region, and the production of Nissan Murano, X-Trail and Teana is carried out in the industrial zone of Kamenka, located in the Leningrad region.

American Ford has also set up assembly production of its European models in our country. Starting with the release of the Ford Focus, today this auto giant produces popular models such as Mondeo, Transut and Trend here.

As you can see, today on the territory of Russia is produced simply a mind-boggling number of foreign cars. Such machines are not inferior to their foreign counterparts in terms of build quality, but due to special financial incentives provided to manufacturing enterprises, they have a significantly lower price, which makes them very attractive to ordinary citizens.

Where BMW X5 is assembled for the Russian market

Cars from the Bavarian company BMW have always indicated the success of their owner. Whoever says anything, German models are practical, durable and fast. Crossovers are especially popular. For example, the BMW X5 is characterized as a quiet and economical sports car. At the same time, it is very powerful, which becomes clear both when driving on the highway and in city traffic of models.

All car owners without exception note that the five shows themselves calm and economical in the city. At the same time, it is fast and even aggressive on the track. And in any case, it is very easy and pleasant to operate it.

Most likely, this is the merit of not only the designers and engineers who thought through everything to the smallest detail, but also the craftsmen who made the car. In this article, we will look at where the BMW X5 is assembled for Russian buyers, and how the car of our production differs from the purebred German.

Where BMW X5 is assembled

The oldest factories that assemble the BMW X5 are in America, Germany and England. Of these, in Russia, you can find American-assembled cars. Several years ago, BMW X5 for the Russian market began to be assembled at a local plant. In the summer of 2009, it became known that the car would be made at the Avtotor production facility. In the first year, about 1000 models rolled off the assembly line. Further, up to the last 2015, their number only increased.

By the way, this is not the only car of the German concern that is assembled at a Russian plant. At the same time, they began to make the BMW X6, and even earlier the sedans of the third and fifth series and the X3 crossover rolled off the assembly line. It is interesting that the first car of the Bavarian company was assembled and produced here at the end of the last century, in 1999. The number of models in our assembly was 555. Already in 2007 this figure increased to 4.5 thousand. In 2015, it almost doubled.

Let's see how Russian craftsmen do their job and whether it is worth buying a BMW X5 of our assembly.

Review of BMW X5 assembled in Russia

The first BMW X5, which rolled off the Russian assembly line, cost 68 thousand euros. He had two power units under the hood, which gave out a total power of 309 horsepower. One of them was a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, and the other was an electrician. The engines were connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. By the way, the car has not changed since that time, either externally or in terms of technology. But its cost has grown by a quarter.

In fact, the Russian assembly is not much different from the German one. And the point is not that our craftsmen suddenly began to make reliable cars, but that local production is SKD. That is, ready-made parts are sent to Russia, but we only weld them, and give the car the necessary appearance. Therefore, as it turned out, where the BMW X5 is assembled is not so important. After all, German quality remains so in any case.

A little about the merits of the crossover. The car consumes only 3.4 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers of travel. An electric motor can stretch up to 31 kilometers on a single charge.

Its design is thought out to the smallest detail. Clean lines, muscular bodywork and sloping struts are what distinguishes the car. It is stylish and special in its own way. Vertical air intakes appeared in the side bumper. They improve aerodynamics. In the salon of the Russian modification, new sports very comfortable seats have appeared. Also, there is LED lighting around the perimeter. It goes to the front panel from the side of the doors. Interestingly, its color changes depending on the driver's wishes in the white blue and orange range.

The multimedia system is amazing. It is powerful enough and the sound output is very loud thanks to the excellent speakers. The diagonal of the screen is 10.25 inches. There are so many functions here that you can get confused. You can control the car using this display, and nothing more. In general, it will take about a month to study the functionality of the screen alone.

Safety is also at the highest level here. Both the driver and the passenger can feel protected. The seat cushions are adjustable in any position, they are heated and they can be pulled out depending on your desire.

Now a little about the disadvantages. The ride settings on the BMW X5 are pretty average. But, this is not our engineers' fault. The car starts to drive with slight delays. Although the car is marketed as sporty, it is quieter than you might expect. In Russian-assembled crossovers, some note wide gaps between parts. Sound insulation does not suffer from this, as well as aesthetic characteristics. But, they note that dust and dirt are often clogged in the gap. And also, dampness from natural precipitation accumulates here.

But, nevertheless, the mentioned shortcomings are not so serious as not to pay attention to the BMW X5. Ultimately, where the crossover is assembled isn't all that important. Therefore, do not be afraid of our assembly, and feel free to buy a model.

BMW plant in Russia: location found! - magazine Behind the wheel

As a result, between the Kaliningrad and Kaluga regions, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg, BMW stopped at the westernmost Russian region. This is quite understandable: BMW and the Kaliningrad Region have a long-term relationship, because it is here at the Avtotor plant that most BMW models for the Russian market are made by SKD.

Currently, the government of the Kaliningrad region and the Ministry of Industry and Trade agree on the terms of a special contract to be concluded with BMW. The head of the department Denis Manturov said this in an interview with Vedomosti. In December last year, the Germans registered a separate company in Russia, BMW Russland Automotive LLC, which will assemble cars on the Russian market, while the sales and service functions will remain in the hands of BMW Russland.

Maximilian Kellner, who was the head of the Russian branch of BMW last year, said that BMW is leaning towards building a plant in the Kaliningrad region, in which BMW is attracting the investment climate and plans of local authorities to further improve it.

The project of the BMW plant in the Kaliningrad region is already several years old. Initially, it was planned to build it together with Avtotor, which wanted to create an automotive cluster in Kaliningrad, similar to those that already exist in the Kaluga region or St. Petersburg. The construction of the plant was planned to begin in 2015, but then the project was postponed due to the crisis in the Russian automotive market.

BMW, like its main competitor in the premium segment, Daimler AG, will assemble cars in Russia on a full cycle, with welding and body painting. According to this principle, the concern's own factories in Germany and the USA, as well as several joint ventures in China, operate. But if the products of factories in Germany and the United States are supplied to all countries of the world, and the Chinese market is huge in volume, then in Russia BMW, against the background of other companies that have factories with full-cycle production, to put it mildly, are small: in 2017, the Bavarians sold from us just over 30 thousand cars (+ 9%).

Where BMW is assembled in Russia

Home »Articles» Where in Russia BMW is assembled

German cars are synonymous with solidity, quality, reliability and power. And prosperity, of course. Therefore, there is no shortage of demand for them and is not expected. Moreover, in order to cover the growing needs of the market, even German auto giants are trying to expand the production of their products around the world, including in our country. If you think that in those parts where BMWs are assembled in Russia, exclusively pedantic and neat Germans work, who are imported in containers, then you are mistaken.

Manufactured by the company "Avtotor", which is located in Kaliningrad. During the year, production volumes (for all understandable reasons) fell, but nevertheless, cooperation between the two countries in matters of car production continues. Officials of the brand report that sales volumes fell immediately by 20%. It is hoped that the crisis will gradually end.

So the city of Kaliningrad is an outpost of the German car industry in Russia. What kind of models are produced here? There are several of them:

These are, for a moment, cars of the third, fifth and seventh series. It should be noted that Avtotor and BMW have been cooperating for more than a decade and a half, and during this time their specialists managed to hone the technology at domestic enterprises to perfection. Simply put, the quality of the BMW assembly in Russia is in no way inferior to the German one.

Differences between the Russian assembly

There are some differences between Russian and German BMWs. Firstly, the Russian adaptation implies the installation of more reliable and rigid shock absorbers, similarly in the situation with stabilizers. In addition, electronic giblets are tuned to work even in very severe frosts. The ground clearance of these cars is noticeably higher than if compared with the German version. The kit also includes an engine crankcase protection, which is very important in our conditions.

As you might guess, BMW is produced in Russia by the SKD method. Ready-made assemblies are being transported from Germany, from which skilled workers "sculpt" the finished machine. Domestic components are not used at all during assembly. It's hard to say if this is good or bad.

Quality control is very "strict", and therefore the number of defects in the case of Russian and German assemblies is extremely low. The only difference is that the Germans have much more complete sets, and they are much richer. True, given the current prices, when the BMW 7 Series in the simplest version costs about six million rubles, the number of those wishing to purchase it has significantly decreased.

Unfortunately, the Avtotor plant, where BMWs are now assembled in Russia, may abandon a number of "ineffective" models. If the current situation with a small number of buyers continues, then, for example, the seventh series may completely disappear from the assembly line.

Alas, almost all cars began to be assembled in Russia. Are you ready to buy a BMW worth 4,000,000 assembled in Russia? What are we paying for ?! It's ridiculous for the brand assembled in Russia.

Having reviewed the entire list, I was pleasantly surprised that Mercedes was not included in this list. Although it is possible that S-class cars will be assembled in Russia,

And also good news, the new Infiniti Q50 has Mercedes-Benz engines.

BMW is going to build a full-cycle plant in Russia

The construction of the Mercedes plant in the Moscow region is in full swing. The full-cycle enterprise will start operating in 2019 and will produce 25 thousand cars a year. The main competitor of Daimler, the BMW concern, also intends to produce cars in Russia. And not by the large-knot method (this is already assembled in Kaliningrad), but with welding, body painting and other assembly cycles. Details are written by Vedomosti.

A completely new plant may appear in the Kaliningrad region, where a special economic zone (SEZ) operates. Companies here receive budget subsidies comparable to the costs of paying customs duties when importing components. According to preliminary data, the enterprise will not only have a stamping shop (body panels will arrive on the conveyor in finished form). The rest of the assembly steps will be carried out at the future plant.

BMWs assembled in Russia will be supplied only to the Russian market. Currently, the Kaliningrad Avtotor produces 3-, 5- and 7-Series, X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 models. BMW, together with Avtotor, admitted the possibility of building a full-cycle plant in Russia, but the decision was constantly postponed. Recently, the management of Avtotor said that for the construction of such an enterprise it is planned to sign a special investment contract (admission to state support in exchange for investment).

Map of factories: where and what cars are assembled in Russia - DRIVE2

The Daimler concern announced plans to build a plant in Russia for the production of Mercedes sedans and crossovers - an excellent reason to remember all the enterprises in the country where foreign cars are produced. From 2019 in Russia, they will begin to assemble Mercedes cars. The enterprise will be built in the Esipovo industrial park, about 40 km from Moscow. The plant, in which at least 250 million euros are invested, will assemble E-class sedans and crossovers. The plant will become the seventeenth enterprise in Russia where passenger cars are mass-produced.

The German concern "BMW" became the first large automobile enterprise that decided to start assembling cars on the territory of Russia. The Avtotor enterprise is located in Kaliningrad, and today this company supplies the largest number of BMWs entering the Russian market. At the same time, many people have doubts: is it worth taking a car assembled in Russia, how much better will a German-made BMW be? Opinions on the forums can be found directly opposite, while objective evidence of both points of view is difficult to provide.

What attracts Russian buyers to truly German cars

One of the main advantages of a truly German car is the quality of the engine. As a result, the durability of the entire structure depends on the reliability of the motor, and it was German technology in this parameter that outstripped many manufacturers around the world. And it is precisely the reliability that ultimately lacks the products of the Russian car industry. BMW has already become a symbol of practicality, quality and comfort all over the world.

Distinctive features of this car: excellent handling due to the coordinated work of complex electronic systems, efficient brakes, a comfortable interior in which a driver of any size will feel comfortable. For all its positive qualities, BMWs are focused specifically on city traffic, so they are not designed for difficult road conditions. After the company began assembling cars at the Kaliningrad plant, heated debates broke out among fans of this brand regarding the quality of the cars.

Features of "BMW" assembled in Russia

How to distinguish a German-made BMW from a Kaliningrad one? The Russian assembly is equipped with a number of design differences. Since Avtotor's products are mainly aimed at Russian customers, a special “Russian package” had to adapt them to non-standard local conditions. The main distinguishing features of the "Russian" BMW:

  • The clearance increased by 22 mm made it possible to achieve increased cross-country ability. Taking into account the situation on Russian roads, such an addition can hardly be called superfluous.
  • Stiffer shock absorbers and reinforced anti-roll bars (both front and rear). This will allow the machine to remain operational longer.
  • Electronics allows you to start the car even in severe frost conditions.
  • Many motorists note that the Russian assembly is less sensitive to the quality of gasoline, which is important, given the quality of fuel at most gas stations.

Thus, the traditional BMW has become more durable, designed to overcome difficulties and travel on those routes for which the car was not originally intended at all. You can check the exact place of assembly of the car using the VIN-code. This is a marking that is put on the engine, and in which the country of manufacture must be reflected. Russian cars are marked with the letter "X". You can go shopping with a friend who knows where to find the VIN.

What to choose: German or Russian assembly

So far, almost entirely imported components are used for the production of BMWs at the plant in Kaliningrad. That is, it is difficult to talk about the discrepancy in the quality of the machines, since in the end they pass the same quality control. At the same time, many note that when driving a vehicle assembled in Russia, the noise is louder, and the car, as a result, turns out to be less durable. However, these disadvantages can be attributed to the quality of service, and to the observance of the rules for operating the machine.

Cars assembled in Kaliningrad end up undergoing a triple quality control: initially, the parts are checked by the manufacturer, then they are checked upon entering the plant, and, ultimately, they are finally checked after assembly. The likelihood of marriage in this case is reduced to a minimum, so the "Russian" BMWs are not much inferior to the German ones. The Russian assembly has been on the market for 13 years.

An important factor determining the purchase of a Russian assembly is its cost. On the forums, the question is often asked, is it possible to buy a new BMW of German assembly from a dealer? New German cars are still supplied to the Russian market, but their cost is very high. For example, the updated series BMW 520i has been available from official sellers since September last year at a price of 1.825 million rubles. Cars assembled in Russia are not subject to customs duties, so the price markups are much less.

German used car or new domestic

Which is better to buy: a used car from Germany or a new domestic one? For the price, cars made in Russia are almost equal to low-mileage models that are transported across the border. It's hard to say what exactly will be better for a Russian driver:

  1. Used BMWs with low mileage, with proper operation, are not much inferior to new ones. The Germans have always been a thrifty people, and used cars arrive from abroad in very good condition, making them a bargain.
  2. At the same time, the new car cannot be compared with anything else. It is always more pleasant to be behind the wheel of a car that no one else has owned before you. The purchase of new cars may fall into concessional lending programs aimed at supporting the manufacturer. This will help you save additional money.
  3. The new car has a warranty card that will allow you to correct any factory defects, if any. Many owners also speak positively about the Russian assembly: the cars are quite high-quality, in no way inferior to their German counterparts, and the build quality in them is not worse.

The prejudice regarding the quality of Russian cars, of course, has good reasons. At the same time, times are changing, and one can expect that the Russian assembly will soon be at a quite decent level, gradually ousting the Western representatives of the automotive industry. So far, the choice remains only with the opinion and taste of the buyer.
