Replacing spark plugs on Kia seed. How to replace spark plugs on Kia Sid? When to change spark plugs on Kia Sid

Spark plugs are one of the most frequently replaced spare parts. The reason for this is active work in difficult conditions. They are constantly subjected to mechanical, vibrational and electrical stress. The result is that the aging process is significantly accelerated. If you do not change this detail, eventually it will lead to a drop in the intensity of the discharge. In other words, the car will be difficult to start, and the fuel will burn less efficiently. In some cases, heavily worn candles cause the car to not start at all. And then a logical question arises - how to properly replace the candles on a Kia Sid car? Below we provide some useful tips.

Choosing candles for LED ED, JD

Original Kia Sid JD candles (since 2012) have part code 18846-10060 or with the letter S at the beginning, for ED models (since 2006) - 18854-10080. However, there may be differences, therefore, in order to exclude the possibility of error, it is better to look for the part in the catalogs of original spare parts using the VIN number.

Over the course of several years of operation, products from the Japanese company NGK have performed well. On the modification of ED and JD, products from the following companies are also well suited:

  • Bosch;
  • beru;
  • Denso;
  • and some others.

Russian-made products are also compatible with ED and JD versions.

We will supply original candles, however there are many substitute manufacturers

On the one hand, for the Sid ED version, like the JD version, an important point is the choice of candles depending on the production materials. Try to focus on products made on the basis of the iridium composition. Yes, on the one hand, such products are much more expensive, and it is not always possible to find them in stores. But, on the other hand, the operation of such candles has a positive effect on fuel economy, improves the quality of combustion of the mixture, and has a much longer resource.

For engines with a volume of 1.4 liters, it will be necessary to install a consumable, the design of which includes a short skirt. The reason is that a long skirt requires too much internal space to be allocated, which makes it impossible to place it in a regular place in the cylinder block. But 1.6 engines with 2 liters, which are produced from 2006-2009 and from 2009 to the present, products that provide for a long skirt are suitable. When using a candle with a short skirt, the power of the power unit will decrease significantly.

Many drivers are also interested in the question of how many electrodes should be present on the consumable. In Kia Sid, both classic candles with one electrode and multi-electrode ones are suitable. They cost, of course, more expensive, but they have a more stable spark formation, which makes it possible to achieve a more complete and uniform combustion of the working mixture. As a result, you can see a slight increase in engine power and additional efficiency, although they are unlikely to be significant.

Replacement process for engines 1.4 and 1.6

Some car owners think that in Sidah the interval for scheduled replacement of spark plugs is only 20 thousand kilometers, although the manufacturer claims 3 times longer. This is partly true, because there are a number of reasons for this:

  • Instability of fuel quality;
  • severe vehicle operating conditions.

If you do not change the candles on Side, one of two typical malfunctions can occur - the combustion of the power unit control unit, or the ignition coil burnout. Both in the first and in the second case, the restoration of these elements is impossible.

For a successful replacement, you will have to bring tools with you in advance, purchase new compatible candles (it is highly desirable that they be officially certified). A full replacement typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on experience.

The algorithm is as follows:

  1. We open the hood of the car. Remove the plastic engine cover. It is fixed with four 10 bolts.
  2. After it is removed, access to the ignition coils will appear. Their fixation is made with the help of bolts having the same cap size. We unscrew them. This will make it possible to completely free the coils.
  3. Considering that the well has a depth of about 150 millimeters, an ordinary key is not suitable for unscrewing the light. To do this, you will either have to use a special candle key, or an extension cord. The replacement procedure should be performed in sequential order, one at a time.

Installation of new consumables is carried out in the exact opposite order. The procedure presented above is carried out according to a similar principle, regardless of the version of the car - ED or JD.

It must be remembered that the main reason why spark plugs fail prematurely is the poor quality of gasoline or poor-quality fuel filter cleaning. Therefore, it should be changed at the same time.

Thus, the procedure for replacing candles is a simple task that can be done "at home". The main problem is the correct choice of consumables, so it is better to focus on the manufacturer's recommendations, giving preference to time-tested brands. Try to refuel with high-quality fuel to extend the life of consumables.

Kia Sid has been produced since 2006. Equipped with both petrol and diesel engines. The line has three generations. In the domestic market, the most famous are the first 2, since the latest generation at the time of writing (beginning of 2019) was presented only last year. Therefore, the article will focus on Kia Cee'd 1 (ED, ED FL) and 2 (JD).

Spark plugs on LED 1 and 2 differ depending on the engine size, the restyling of the car, and directly on the generation. The supplier of original spare parts for the conveyor is Mobis, which simply repackages the spare parts. And the main manufacturer of the originals is NGK. Relatively recently, CHAMPION candles are also occasionally found in the original.

Spark plugs for LED I 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0

On the first generation of LEDs with gasoline engines, the spark plugs differ in the volume of the engine and the restyling carried out in 2009. All original spark plugs on this vehicle are nickel, with one side electrode. For 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines, the same spark plugs with a long thread and a short “skirt” are installed - before restyling, and with a long one - after restyling. On 2-liter engines, candles were installed, which are the same in size and parameters as candles on pre-style engines 1.4 and 1.6, but they are not interchangeable.

The original article, dimensions and parameters are presented in the table below.

The spark plugs used on pre-style engines 1.4 and 1.6 were also originally installed on other cars (albeit under different article numbers) - Hyundai i30 (FD), on many Mazdas - 323, 626, 929 Mk III (HC), MX-6 (GE).

In addition to these substitutes, you can use analogues from the manufacturer of the original candles - NGK. The numbers of substitutes corresponding to the original candles are indicated in the table below.

It is worth remembering that the quality of the original spark plug and its direct counterpart from the manufacturer may differ slightly.

Spark plugs for KIA Sid II 1.4, 1.6, 2.0

On Sid JD, spark plugs differ in engine displacement and restyling. Unlike the first generation, on the second they have an iridium central electrode (except for the 2-liter one), which increases the service life several times and slightly improves the dynamic characteristics of the engine.

Before the restyling carried out in 2015, the same candles were installed on the Kia Sid 2 with engines 1.4 and 1.6, but after that they were different. On 2-liter engines, the candles are the same as on the first generation, since the engines are the same.

The article and dimensions are indicated in the table.

Candles installed on restyled 1.6-liter Sid 2 engines can be found in the original on other Kia cars - RIO III, SOUL (AM), SPORTAGE III, or on a number of models from Hyundai - i30 II, i40 (VF), ix35 (LM).

The most famous analogues from other manufacturers are listed below.

The list of direct analogues from the manufacturer is shown in the table below.

When to change spark plugs for Kia Sid?

Spark plugs on the first generation are changed every 30 thousand kilometers. On the 2nd generation (except for the 2.0 engine, there also after 30,000), this period is 60 thousand km, since iridium candles are installed here. But in fact, they can go much longer.

Kia cee`d: Air filter: 290–460 rubles, cabin: 540–830 rubles. Candles 4 pcs.: 1100–1500 rubles.

Cabin filter replacement

Cabin filter requires replacement after 15 thousand kilometers. Difficult operating conditions reduce this interval by one and a half to two times. The filter is installed in the heater fan housing behind the glove box of the instrument panel.

Install the storage box.

Replacing spark plugs

According to the maintenance regulations, spark plugs must be changed after 60 thousand kilometers. The Kia cee`d engine is equipped with NGK LZKR6B spark plugs or their equivalents from other manufacturers. We work on a cold engine.

When installing a new candle, it must be baited and screwed in by turning the extension by hand, without a knob, in order to avoid damaging the thread of the spark plug hole in the cylinder head. We finally tighten the candle. Similarly, we replace the remaining candles.

On a note

, editor:

If the candle has not gone along the thread, there will be a strong resistance to rotation. In this case, it is necessary to completely unscrew the candle and, having cleaned the thread, re-wrap it. Be careful: overtightening the spark plugs can damage the threads in the spark plug holes in the cylinder head.

Replacing the Air Filter Element

According to the maintenance regulations, the replaceable air filter element must be replaced after 45 thousand kilometers. When operating the car in dusty areas, the interval should be reduced by one and a half to two times. We change a deformed or damaged element regardless of mileage - neglecting this rule will result in severe wear and a decrease in engine power.

As you know, one of the most frequently replaced automotive consumables are spark plugs. This happens because in the process of work they are constantly subjected to all kinds of loads: mechanical, electrical, vibration. As a result, the aging process is significantly accelerated, as a result of which the gap increases, the discharge intensity decreases, especially under cold start conditions. Timely replacement of spark plugs helps to avoid a lot of problems, so the choice of spark plugs must be taken seriously.

Spark plugs for Kia Sid

It is best to use the spark plugs recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. It is known that Kia itself is not engaged in the production of spark plugs, so the choice of spark plugs after the ones installed at the factory have worked out is completely the responsibility of the car owner. In the case of cars of the Motors lineup, all experts primarily recommend the use of products from the Japanese company NGK, although, of course, there are other options:

  • Denso;
  • beru;
  • Bosch.

There are other manufacturing companies whose spark plugs can be quite successfully used for a Kia Sid car, including Russian-made ones.

When choosing, the declared performance, such as thermal conductivity, is also very important. Many tend to give preference to platinum iridium candles, but this is a rather complicated question - such spark plugs can really last much longer, they are more economical, but at the same time they cost an order of magnitude more expensive and require high-quality fuel. As a rule, the number of candles is directly tied to the number of cylinders of an automobile engine, but there are exceptions.

When choosing and replacing spark plugs, you need to take into account the intensity of possible loads, because how intensively you use your Kia Ceed car will also depend on how often you have to change spark plugs. As a rule, the “Check Engine” error known to many motorists can indicate that the candle resource is coming to an end. It would not be superfluous to always have a spare set of candles on hand, and even better - "winter" and "summer" sets.

When choosing spark plugs, two important parameters must be considered: the size of the spark plug and its glow number. Size is critical to ignition and safety, while glow rating is indicative of spark plug combustion temperature and overall engine load. The higher the glow number, the greater the allowable temperature at which the spark plug can operate. These criteria are always indicated in the technical documentation for each specific car model.

When choosing spark plugs, such a criterion as the design features of the spark plug is no less important. For quite a long time, classical single-electrode models have not been the most suitable and the only possible option. Despite such a tangible plus as the cost, such candles are significantly inferior to more modern advanced options in many respects. Multielectronic spark plugs have side electrodes, due to which they have better sparking and maximum power.

Thus, if this or that candle corresponds in its parameters and technical characteristics to your car, the whole question of choice comes down to the amount of money that you are ready to pay for this consumable.

Replacing spark plugs in a Kia Ceed car

According to the regulations, candles need to be changed every 60 thousand km, but in reality this often has to be done about twice as often. The frequency depends on how high-quality candles are installed in your car. Iridium or platinum really can be changed no more than every 50,000 km, but with cheaper ones, as a rule, the situation is somewhat different.

To replace the spark plugs in a Kia Sid car, you will need a 16 key and a 10 key. First you need to remove the decorative casing on the engine, under which you can immediately see the ignition coils. Next, the coils must be unscrewed with a 10 key, then pull them out of the wells and unscrew the spark plugs with a 16 candle key, replacing them with new ones. Assembly is carried out in reverse order. With some skills, such an operation will not take more than 20 minutes.

And finally - remember that in most cases, poor-quality gasoline is the cause of premature failure of spark plugs. By saving on fuel, you thereby reduce the life of consumables such as spark plugs.
