Do-it-yourself super nod-type float. We catch mormyshka on a side nod for summer fishing. From simple to complex

From the shore in some places it is often difficult due to dense vegetation. It is sometimes impossible to throw tackle exactly into the “window” or onto the line of demarcation between open water and plants. This is where a fishing rod with a side nod and mormyshka comes to the aid of anglers. The long rod, the absence of a float clinging to algae, as well as a clear bite signal are not all of its advantages.

In this article, we will look at where and how a side nod is used, as well as how to make your own tackle for summer mormyshka fishing.

What is the essence of a summer fishing rod with a side nod

In the view of the majority, mormyshka is an exclusively winter occupation, because the essence of such fishing lies in the correct wiring of the bait. It is almost impossible to carry out such a procedure with a long summer rod. But in fact, there is nothing complicated about it. It is enough to have a long and light rod that can be held in your hands for a long time, a set of mormyshkas, as well as a high-quality nod that will not only signal a bite, but also play along with the bait.

Ordinary summer fishing rods equipped with a float do not allow fishing in places densely overgrown with aquatic plants, especially when it comes to casting long distances. Even if the equipment sinks to the bottom, the float will definitely get stuck or hooked.

A fishing rod with a side nod is a completely different matter. The long rod allows you to “bring” the equipment to the right place, the mormyshka falls to the bottom without any problems, and the nod helps it play at the slightest swaying of the blank.

Where to fish

Catch on a similar tackle on rivers with a weak current, as well as in stagnant water. As for the place, you can fish for a summer side nod anywhere, both from the shore and from a boat. In the latter case, of course, a long rod is not required.

This tackle is great for fishing in snags and in places where there are flooded trees. It is also suitable for fishing from a cliff to hunt for such a cautious fish as a chub.

What kind of fish can be caught in the summer on a mormyshka

You can fish with a mormyshka in the summer for any fish, including predatory ones. If this is an ordinary mormyshka with an addition in the form of maggot, bloodworm or caddisfly, roach, crucian carp, perch, and even pike perch can take it. When using a revolver, you can safely count on the bite of a chub, roach, crucian carp, carp, the same perch.

Rod for summer mormyshka fishing

When choosing a rod, start with the material of its manufacture, because here one of the main factors is the weight of the blank. The smaller it is, the more comfortable fishing will be. It is best to use carbon fiber for these purposes. The weight of the longest rod made of this material does not exceed 350 g.

Now about the design. Fishing for a side nod in the summer involves the use of a telescopic blank. Neither plug nor solid rods are used here. As for the length of the form, it should be at least 5 meters.

Pay attention to the build. Fast action rods with a long stiff whip are more suitable.

Coil

There are no special reel requirements for this type of fishing. Some anglers generally use a reel, however, for catching large fish, such as bream or crucian carp, it is better to use a spinning reel. Take some inexpensive branded model with a spool size of 2500-3000, which has a friction brake.

fishing line

Both monofilament and braided line are suitable as the main fishing line. The recommended thickness for the thread is 0.2 mm, for the cord - 0.15 mm. At least 30 meters of fishing line must be wound on the reel.

Nod Requirements

But the requirements for the nod are the most stringent, because the entire success of fishing depends on it. It must have sufficient elasticity to signal even the most cautious bites, as well as a certain elasticity, clearly corresponding to the weight of the mormyshka.

As for its size, it should be proportional to the rod: the larger it is, the longer the nod should be. For example, for a 6-meter blank, a 20 cm long gatehouse would be ideal.

And one more mandatory requirement - it must be clearly visible due to the bright color that contrasts with the color of the environment.

We make a simple plastic nod

A side nod for a summer fishing rod can be purchased at a fishing store, or you can make your own. You just need to determine which bait it will work with. Ideally, if it is straight without load and bends at an angle of 90 degrees under the weight of the jig. Such tests, of course, need to be carried out after its manufacture.

The simplest side nod can be made from an ordinary plastic bottle. To do this, select a bottle of the desired length and cut out a longitudinal blank measuring 20x0.7 cm from it. Then we narrow one of the ends of this strip to 0.3-0.5 mm and process it with fine sandpaper at the cut points to remove burrs. Now we take a thin paper clip and form a loop out of it with two ends brought together. This will be our end "tulip". We fasten this loop to the narrow end of the future nod with threads and cover the connection with waterproof glue. It is recommended to paint the end of the nod in red or orange so that it is better visible. This can be done with regular nail polish.

Plastic nod from the knee of an old fishing rod

A tighter nod can be made from an old or broken one for summer fishing. To do this, disconnect one of the thinnest knees and cut a strip of the indicated dimensions from it. Adjust its width to the specific weight of the mormyshka. Attach a paperclip loop to the end of the gatehouse, as indicated above. Color the end in one of the bright colors (red, yellow, orange).

How to make a summer side nod from a tape measure

For heavier mormyshkas, a harder nod will be required. It is best to make it from thin sheet spring steel. But where to get it, you ask? A good side nod will come from a regular construction tape measure. Here you don’t even have to measure the length - be guided by the existing scale. Using metal scissors, cut the workpiece with the dimensions indicated above and carefully process it with sandpaper. The width of the strip can be made smaller, because the density of steel is much higher than plastic. Test the nod by attaching a jigsaw line to the thin end. If the gate bends under its weight, then you are on the right track.

After sanding, attach a loop of paper clip to the thin end and paint it in a bright color.

How to attach a nod to a whip

Now that we have figured out the design of the nod, it remains to determine how to fix it on the tip. The easiest way is to attach it to the whip perpendicularly and wind it with thread, filling the connection with waterproof glue. But this method is absolutely inconvenient, as it will cause problems when transporting the rod. Let's look at a few alternatives.

You can take a piece of rubber insulation, which is used for gluing doors and windows. At its core, it is a thin elastic hose with a rectangular cross section. Having cut off a piece of the seal 3-4 cm long, we put it on the tip of the rod. If it doesn’t fit tightly, we wrap electrical tape under it.

After that, in the upper part of the seal, using a scalpel or a knife with a sharp and thin blade, we make horizontal cuts 0.5-0.8 cm long. We insert our gatehouse into them, orienting its end in the right direction.

If there is no “tulip” on the tip of the rod, you can use a dropper tube or any other similar tube instead of a sealant. If the whip is equipped with a “tulip”, we take a cocktail tube, cut off a piece 3-4 cm long from it and insert it into the hole between the ring and the tip. We put a nod into the tube and get an almost ready-made tackle.

Bait

Fishing on a side nod in the summer will be effective only if the bait is successfully selected. Four factors play a major role here:

  • form;
  • the size;
  • color.

When choosing mormyshkas, keep in mind that summer models are slightly larger than winter ones, so you don’t need to be ashamed of the size, unless we are talking about fishing in the current using tungsten models. But, since ours is not used for strong currents, we will limit ourselves to mormyshkas made of lead and its alloys.

For ordinary lures, we will omit the description of the shape, since they, for the most part, have round or oval outlines. For them, the main thing is not the appearance, but what is on the hook.

But for summer jigs-moths, shape and color are decisive factors. During this period of the year, you need to focus on the natural diet of fish, because summer is not the hungriest time for it.

Summer side nod fishing for bream and roach will be more effective when using red, orange and yellow reels, as well as their combinations with black. Dark colors are more suitable for chub: brown, gray, black.

Crucian carp will respond better to a side nod if the bait still contains bait of animal origin, so it is preferable to use ordinary mormyshkas to catch it.

With regards to the shape of the bait, it is impossible to say something unequivocally, because in the summer all the fish are very picky. It’s good if you have a set of summer mormyshkas at hand, including both ordinary models for fishing with bait, and a variety of revolvers: “devils”, “ants”, “goats”, “drops”, “urals”, etc.

Ways of fishing on a summer fishing rod with a side nod

If there is a universal tackle for fishing in the summer, then this is a summer mormyshka. The side nod allows you to fish from the shore, and off the coast, and from a boat. Wading is considered the most difficult, as it requires endurance and patience from the angler. In addition to standing in the water, constantly holding a long rod in your hands, you also need to try to make the correct wiring. Fishing from the shore is a little easier, at least here you can lay out your tackle and bait.

The easiest way to fish is from a boat: it’s easier to choose a suitable place, and a long rod is useless here. For such fishing, you will need a short blank (1.5-2 m) of a fast action with a hard tip. All other tackle requirements are the same as for a long rod with a side nod.

Technique of fishing on a side nod in the summer

For summer fishing for mormyshka, there are several types of postings:

  • simple vertical;
  • vertical retract;
  • finger play;
  • jerk;
  • bottom horizontal;
  • wire drawing;
  • passive.

With conventional vertical wiring, the equipment is brought into the right place with the help of a rod. Then it is slowly lowered to the bottom. The mormyshka is lifted with light vertical movements directed upwards, with a pause of 1-2 seconds every 10-15 cm. After that, the equipment is returned to the bottom again and the process is repeated.

Vertical pull wiring is mostly carried out in the presence of a small current. It is it that helps the mormyshka produce vibrations that attract fish. To do this, the snap is sent to the bottom, after which it is slowly lifted to a distance of 7-10 cm, and held for 5-10 seconds, after which the procedure is repeated.

When playing with fingers, a similar process occurs, however, during the rise, the angler additionally “excites” the bait with small strokes of the fingers on the fishing line extending from the reel or reel, pulling it up and releasing it.

Jerk wiring is that the mormyshka is lowered to the bottom in two stages: first up to half, after a few seconds completely. After that, a sharp rise is made 30-40 cm up, followed by a repetition of the cycle.

Bottom horizontal wiring means vibrations of the mormyshka along the bottom surface at a distance of 10-15 cm from it, carried out by small-amplitude twitches of the rod in the horizontal plane.

Dragging the bait along the bottom is possible only on the territory of the reservoir open from aquatic plants. Mormyshka is lowered to the bottom, after which the rod is slowly taken to the side, dragging the bait along the bottom surface.

Passive hauling is designed for lazy anglers who do not want to contribute to the game of jig. Here you can apply two options: lower the bait to the bottom so that it just lies there, or at half water - so that a gentle current sways it.

Conclusion

The recommendations given regarding the choice of mormyshka, the method and technique of fishing, cannot be binding. Any fishing is a kind of experiment, during which the angler, even the most seasoned one, gains some experience that will be useful to him next time.

Therefore, feel free to experiment with both baits and fishing techniques. Only in this way can you comprehend all the secrets of this exciting activity called "fishing".

In the summer, most anglers use a side nod, which easily copes with the task of fishing in snarled areas of the reservoir and thickets.

Thanks to this tackle, you can become the owner of a weighty catch:

  • bream;
  • carp;
  • perch;
  • crucian;
  • chub and roach.

Fishing on a side nod is in no way inferior in terms of excitement to float fishing. The process can be carried out both from a swimming facility, and from the coastline or wading. The last option is very interesting, which makes it possible to fish a significant part of the coastal water area. It is extremely important at the same time to enter the water surface gradually so as not to frighten away the fish.

The most catchy place in the sultry heat will be a spit overgrown with underwater vegetation. Due to the abundance of grassy plexuses, you can get to any area of interest for catching.

If fishing is carried out on rivers, then it is recommended to consider places with fallen trees, the branches of which hang over the water surface.

The main advantages of using a side nod include:

  • possibility of application in reeds and reeds;
  • the presence of vertical wiring minimizes the number of hooks;
  • maximum accuracy of bait feeding (both by wading and by means of a swimming facility);
  • availability of tackle to the bulk of anglers;
  • mobility of the rod, allowing you to expand the territory of the search for fish.

Fishing rod equipment

High-quality equipment, selected with knowledge, will allow you to get a lot of pleasure from fishing.

When choosing fishing accessories, it is very important to pay attention to the following characteristics, described below:

  • rod- as light as possible, which will allow you not to spend physical strength on holding it for a long period of time. When fishing a reservoir from the coastline, you can stop at a length of about 6 meters, but for a boat it is recommended to purchase short analogues not exceeding 4 meters.
  • Coil- the most suitable in this case inertial plastic type of product.
  • fishing line- we prefer a monofilament thread 0.19 mm thick in brown or marsh tones. Leads are made of thin fishing line 0.15 mm.

Having picked up the tackle, we proceed to the configuration of the equipment:

  • The blind version is ideal for rods without guides and reels. The main role in this case is played by the reel, from which the required length of the monofilament should be unwound. The winder is fixed to the top of the tackle. The resulting equipment allows you to go hunting for small carp and roach.
  • When using tackle with a reel, it is advisable to use a sliding type of equipment. Adjusting the position of the fishing rod directly depends on the depth indicator at the selected fishing point.

Making a nod

A side nod can be purchased at any specialized store or made by yourself.

Option 1

In this variation, you will need to prepare a springy material. The most accessible in this case will be a plastic clamp, the length and thickness of which will make it easy to adjust the sensitivity of the nod.

Before manufacturing, prepare:

Step by step process:

  1. We build a tulip from wire with a small middle ring.
  2. Rings are fixed to the collar(towards the smooth side without a notch) with a few turns of electrical tape.
  3. Subject to the given conditions, the summer mormyshka will spring well. If desired, you can use a couple of drops of superglue for better fixation.
  4. Next comes the heat shrink.
  5. Using copper wire we build a corner, which will perform the function of fastening to the top of the tackle.
  6. The smaller side of the corner is fixed to the clamp in the same way as fastening the ring.
  7. If desired, you can decorate the product. For this, insulating tapes of various tones, heat shrinks of bright colors, varnishes for nail plates are suitable.
  8. With the help of an insulating tape or a price tag, we make a flag on the top of the nod. This accessory will provide an opportunity to follow the bites without stress when fishing in the reeds.

Option 2

No less popular is the method of making a nod based on a plastic bottle.

In the manufacture of the product, the following materials cannot be dispensed with:

  • plastic bottle 1.5 l;
  • sharp scissors;
  • flat file-needle file;
  • paperclips;
  • threads.

Step by step process:

  1. Having prepared the body of the bottle with scissors, you should cut out the body of the summer mormyshka, focusing on the recommended dimensional characteristics: length - 25 cm; width (base) - 0.7 cm; width (upper part) - 0.4 cm.
  2. We process each cut line with a file. Be sure to remove all burrs and smooth out the ribbing.
  3. Having straightened the paper clip, we form a ring with a diameter of 0.4 cm with two retractable legs.
  4. The legs are pressed against the body of the summer mormyshka(at the top). We fix them with a tight winding of the thread.
  5. The wrapping point is processed waterproof glue.

Experienced anglers recommend making 2-33 nods with a variety of lengths and widths of the base. This will be the key to success in fishing. Hard nods are usually used in conjunction with a heavy mormyshka, and the soft version of the product is completed with a light nozzle.

Option 3

If desired, you can make a side type of summer mormyshka using a broken tackle. In this case, the product will be universal, meeting all requirements.

Walkthrough:

  1. Cut out the body of the nod according to the recommended dimensions(listed above) from a broken knee tackle.
  2. All extreme lines are processed with a needle file giving the maximum degree of smoothness and roundness.
  3. A nodding ring can be made from a paper clip or apply the one that is on the broken tackle.
  4. The ring is fixed with a thread at the top of the nod.
  5. Be sure to cover the thread adhesive base (waterproof).
  6. Coloring the body of the accessory in black and white colors.

Nod mount

The most accessible nod to the tip of the tackle will be the option based on a small piece of rubber. It should contain (observing one axis) a hole into which the upper part of the knee of the form can pass. A cut is made transversely. It is into it that the mormyshka will be inserted with the base.

The rubber retainer is ideal for side nods made on the basis of plastic products. Products made on the basis of metal contribute to the cutting of materials. Over time, this leads to the complete destruction of the retainer.

You can build a universal type mount. To do this, prepare:

  • nail - 10 cm;
  • insulating tape;
  • threads;
  • adhesive waterproof base.

Step by step process:

  1. Gently at the nail the hat is bitten off.
  2. The body bends while maintaining the angle 90 degrees (in the central part).
  3. We make winding threads.
  4. We cover the thread with waterproof glue leave for 30 minutes to dry completely.
  5. The resulting design is applied one of the segments to the top of the tackle.
  6. Wrap the product tightly using electrical tape.
  7. To the opposite section of the nail applied summer mormyshka.
  8. Making the winding again tape.

Bait Used

For hook attachment can be used:

  • bloodworm;
  • maggot;
  • small worm.

Some anglers endowed with luck successfully catch on:

  • beads of various tones;
  • devil;
  • thread winding (colored).

However, this is rather an exception to the rule and most fishing enthusiasts are unlikely to become the owner of a heavy catch if they play the devil without bait.

Nod fishing technique

In preparation for fishing, you should dissolve the tackle. The fishing line is wrapped around the circumference of the form. The free tip is passed through the nod ring. We equip it with a mormyshka. If you are going to catch perch or pike, you should hang a vertical lure as a nozzle.

Using a side nod, you can use the following fishing technique:

  1. We perform the fall and rise. In this case, the mormyshka should fall freely to the bottom surface. When lifting, we use light smooth movements and pull the fishing line 10-12 cm long, observing a short pause.
  2. If desired, you can use the game at the bottom surface. To do this, the mormyshka must fall freely to the bottom surface. The rise is made 15 cm above the bottom and slight vibrations are given with a nod. Such a game lasts no more than 2 minutes, after which the mormyshka again reaches the bottom. Repetition is carried out in the same way.
  3. Finger play is no less effective. To do this, the game of the previous method is copied with accuracy by adding small oscillatory movements of the jig. To this end, the index finger periodically taps on the tip of the tackle.
  4. Tension- intended for fishing in areas of the reservoir with a fast current. Slowly lowering the mormyshka to the bottom surface, we hold the fishing line in tension and pull the bait to the surface of the water.
  5. Jerks- the mormyshka lowered to the bottom surface rises jerkily by 35 cm and again reaches the bottom. The jerk is repeated again.
  6. Calm state. The bait is lowered to the selected depth and held in one position until the bite.

In a variety of conditions and on different bodies of water, the game should be individual, so when going to a new place, you should experiment.

  • When fishing with a side nod, there is no need for extra costs. It can be assembled with ease at home with ordinary household items available. The device will turn out to be so convenient that it will be inappropriate to spend money on buying a store counterpart.
  • It is very convenient that when using a summer jig in a variety of weather conditions, a high level of sensitivity is not lost. It is extremely difficult to miss the cutting time in this case.
  • The most catchy will be the section of the reservoir near the long reeds. This should be taken into account when choosing a place.

Fishing with a side nod is characterized by a high degree of its dynamism, in which the angler constantly has to work with the rod, holding it in his hands on weight. These arguments require special criteria when choosing a fishing rod for the presented type of hunting. The fundamental of them is the mass of the rod, which should be as small as possible.

Important! Graphite telescopic rods in lengths from 4 to 10 meters fall under the conditions of low weight.

Depending on the expected factors of use, the form can be equipped with access rings or selected in a flywheel version. It is more convenient and efficient to use a rod with a semi-fast action of the quiver tip. As one of the options for the basis of the nodding direction of fish production, a plug-type rod rig can be used.

Having made a summer side nod and equipped the rod with it, they look for places suitable for hunting, trying to approach promising points from the leeward side for a better view of the signaling device. Based on the forces of the current, they choose the load of the bait and begin work on catching fish, the tactics of which and the nozzles used will be discussed in separate parts of the article.

Catching Tactics

The mounted mormyshka is fed into the fishing area, lowered to the bottom and making a second pause. After a pause, the bait is stirred along the bottom, which causes a cloudy spot to rise, additionally attracting fish.

In the absence of bites, the bait is gradually raised to the surface of the water, making stops at every 30–50 cm of the level and playing with varying intensity. Each point is caught in two cycles and in the absence of bites they move to a new place.

The bite itself is expressed by a clearly visible bend of the signaling device, after which you need to hook the trophy and lift it with the rod.

nozzles

Nozzles are heavy mormyshki of various types and shapes. As a rule, under the working conditions with such equipment, options of 3–5 gram nozzles are selected. In the color plan for fishing in open water, dark shades of natural colors, gray, black, brown, copper, behave more effectively. Bright and shiny winter mormyshkas in the summer alert the fish and bites on them are much less.

Important! With low fish activity, replanting bloodworms significantly activates the bite.

The hooks of the hunting tool should be with an elongated forearm and a much larger number in their classification than the winter options. Fishing points in between the thicket windows can be carried out with the use of loaded and heavy artificial fly-fishing flies. They select options with a terry, but short plumage, performing a leisurely game with heavy pulls, carrying out vertical wiring.

In the view of most fishermen, fishing for mormyshka is an exclusively winter occupation, because the essence of such fishing lies in the correct wiring of the bait. It is almost impossible to carry out such a procedure with a long summer rod.

When and where is the best time to fish with nodding tackle

A nod for a summer fishing rod is mounted on one of the types of tackle described above. Bologna types of fishing rods are equipped with inertial reels with low mass and without any type of additional functions.

It is enough to have only a stopper in the mechanism, otherwise the reel serves only to store a supply of fishing line. Fly tackle is equipped with a miniature foam reel, which is attached to the last knee of the blank with an elastic band.

As in the bologna, the reel plays the role of storage. The rest of the equipment does not depend on the type of tackle and consists of a monofilament with diameters from 0.15 to 0.2 mm, the nodding accessory itself, complete with its attachment to the rod quiver-type and bait.

In installations, a combined artificial bait is used in the form of various types of mormyshka with different loads.

Important! The bait is knitted directly to the fishing line, without swivels and the use of fasteners.

Particular attention should be paid to the use of equipment associated with the difference between rods.

Important! It is more convenient to catch fishing rods with reels from a boat;

Fishing for a nod in the summer is carried out on intensively overgrown reservoirs in free windows and gaps at depths of up to three meters. Fishing is carried out from the shore, in the wading and from boats.

The flow of the reservoir is of no particular importance for hunting. The loads from water jets are compensated by the amount of lures supplied to the production zone.

Fishing in the fall with a bait with a nod, as in the spring, when the reservoirs are still loosely overgrown with underwater algae, is carried out in coastal areas near the walls of reeds or cattail.

Attempts to hunt on steep shores with the presence of underwater holes are successful, from where the game of mormyshkas lures the fish hiding there. Fishing for a nod in the summer begins with the first morning dawn and can be successfully carried out throughout the daylight hours until deep sunset, especially if you catch shaded shores.

In early spring and autumn, fish begin to actively take mormyshkas closer to noon, which is especially felt on sunny days with more intense heating of the waters and the brightness of the natural light flux.

Hunting for small fish

It is not difficult to make a side nod for summer fishing with your own hands. The basis of success is the selection of the right material for the product. The best samples of the signaling device are obtained from lavsan.

Important! Lavsan is a fairly common material in everyday life, which is easy to obtain. This is a plastic bottle and an old fluorographic or x-ray.

The surface of the bottle is cut by unrolling and straightening the material. The workpiece is marked out, focusing on the shape of a long truncated cone of 25–30 cm with cut ends measuring 1 cm at the top and 3 cm at its base.

Having cut out the shape with scissors, a ring is made from a paper clip, which is mounted in the top of the accessory, piercing and subsequently impregnating the material with glue in the places of its contact. For conspicuity, the tip of the signaling device can be painted with varnish in a catchy eye color.

An option for making a nodding tool can be a canvas of an old construction tape measure and spring, flat-rolled steel. The main requirements for the material are elasticity and low weight.

The smallest float is designed for catching fish such as bleak, roach, perch at shallow depths, close to the shore. Such products are often called live bait, since only on them you can catch live bait.

Light tackle can be used when fishing from a boat. The design will be light, since such a float for summer fishing is very small, and the hook with a sinker gently sinks to the bottom.

If the load is normal, then only the antenna will remain above the water. A fishing rod for such a float should be no more than 4 m in length.

Catch on a similar tackle on rivers with a weak current, as well as in stagnant water. As for the place, you can fish for a summer side nod anywhere, both from the shore and from a boat. In the latter case, of course, a long rod is not required.

How to fix a side nod

To mount the signal accessory, a special fastening device is required, which is mounted on the last knee of the form used in the hunting process. A fastener that allows you to fish with a nod in the summer is made from a piece of dense rubber.

Three holes are made in the rubber blank to allow further mounting of the equipment. One of the holes is used for threading the fixture onto the rod quiver-type, on which the fasteners should sit tightly enough without backlash and transverse displacements.

Perpendicular to the first hole, a slot is made into which the signaling device itself will be inserted directly. Typically, a slot is cut over the top of the quiver-type mounting hole.

Important! The mounting socket for the signaling device should allow adjusting the extension of the accessory by transverse pull-ups, but without backlash and with a solid tightness in its density.

The third hole is made parallel to the first in the lower part of the fastening blank, but of a much smaller diameter. A rigid polyethylene cambric is inserted into this hole, an acceptable option is from the insulation of the electrical wire, which runs right through along the entire fastener. This hole serves to pass the fishing line stretched from the reel or reel along the quiver tip to the nod for the summer fishing rod itself.

Nod for spinning

Spinning gear is equipped with this type of signaling device for conducting thin and delicate bottom fishing, when medium-sized and cautious fish are expected in the catches, requiring hooks even at the slightest touch of the bait.

This can be seen using only the equipment described above. The type of installation of the accessory is similar to its installation on a fly and Bologna rod.

It is most likely not possible to pick up a spinning type of signaling device in fishing accessories stores and it is best to make a nod yourself, on your own. A do-it-yourself nod for spinning is made more massive and longer than for fishing rods, using a harder material.

"Nod" with your own hands

It is very easy to make a float for fishing with your own hands, and for this you will not need any special tools - most often everything is at hand. The most popular materials for creating a float are:

  • feathers (goose, pigeon);
  • plastic tube, for example from a balloon;
  • tree;
  • Styrofoam;
  • Cork.

A float of this type, like the Nod, has long been known in fishing circles for its efficiency in use. You can make it yourself without much cost and effort and attach it yourself to a float fishing rod.

  1. First of all, you need to take a piece of wire 25 cm long. The diameter of the wire is 0.8 cm.
  2. From the foam, cut out a spherical float pattern that will float on the water in the future. The sample diameter should be about 20-25 mm.
  3. Now the Nod needs cargo. Take a sliding weight as a basis. Bite off a piece weighing about 3 grams. using pliers or other tool.
  4. Make a hole in the load for the wire.
  5. Make a fold at one end of the wire to secure the load.
  6. Insert the wire into the weight through the hole.
  7. Clamp the weight on the end of the wire with tongs so that it does not slip while using the tackle.
  8. You can use cambric or insulation that fits the size. Separate one insulation about 1 cm long, the other insulation should be 1 cm longer than the product itself (ball-shaped model).
  9. After fixing the load, you can cut the wire, depending on the intended length. It is better to make tackle about 20 cm - this is the optimal size.
  10. After cutting, remove the sharp ends of the wire. This is necessary in order not to damage the insulation.
  11. Thread the line through the long insulation.
  12. Pass the line through the "Nod" and through the short insulation.
  13. Also thread the wire through the insulation, then put the workpiece on it.
  14. Put a little insulation on the other end of the wire.
  15. After that, the finished product must be adjusted.
  16. Attach it to the equipment (weight, hook) and lower it into the water. Adjust the line and placement of the foam on the insulation on the product so that it is flooded to the middle of the spherical specimen and is at a 45 degree angle to the surface of the water.
  17. If there is any doubt that the tackle or insulation will move during fishing, you can make a loop at the end of a long insulation. Material - wire, needle or pin with an eye. It is necessary to place the needle parallel to the wire and wind it with thread and soak it with glue. After that, you need to pass the fishing line through the eye of the needle.
  18. In the finished product of the “Nod” type, the fishing line with a load and a hook comes with less insulation.
  19. Care must be taken to ensure that the load on the tackle and on the fishing line is balanced so that the load on the tool outweighs, because the “Nod” design is a scale.

The main advantages of this “Nod” are a great catch prospect, ease of creation and sensitivity to bites. In windy weather, this float is not effective.

In the process of fishing, you need to constantly monitor so that it does not take a parallel position to the water. This is possible as a result of an imbalance of weights or inappropriate material from which the Nod is made.

In this case, you need to increase the load and increase the size of the foam. You can also increase the degree of inclination of the object to the water up to 75.

During the operation of this product, different laws of physics are involved, so the operation is more difficult than that of the classics.

Fishing with a rod with a side nod

The first floats were created from improvised materials - foam, feathers, and today you can even buy an electronic float for fishing. By the way, these varieties are designed specifically for night fishing, when the float is not visible on the water.

At the same time, there is no universal float: each type of fishing has its own characteristics, and the equipment of the rod must be selected accordingly. The sensitivity of the floats depends on how many places it is fixed on the fishing line.

There are several types of floats, which we will now consider.

Glowing float

Luminous float for night fishing is an ideal solution for those who prefer active recreation even at night. The most popular brand offering floats of this type is the Japanese company Fuji-Toki.

All models are equipped with Japanese LED light emitting diodes, which are characterized by high power and burning duration, averaging 15-24 hours. All Fuji-Toki floats can be divided into several series:

  1. FF-1, FF-2, FF-3, FF-4, FF-5. These are small floats of various shapes, the glow point in which is located in the antenna. It is cone-shaped, so even the most careful bite is easily tracked. This float for night fishing can be used during the day.
  2. FF-11 and FF-12. These are unusual needle-shaped floats that are distinguished by high sensitivity. The well-thought-out shape ensures a quick response, as drag is minimal. The LED has a high power, so a large area of the reservoir is illuminated.
  3. FF-B3, FF-B4, FF-B6, FF-B8. These floats have a sensitive antenna and a spherical body, showing maximum resistance to external influences.
  4. FF-C10, FF-C15, FF-C20, FF-C30. These models are complemented by a high power LED, so a large surface of the water is illuminated. The float has an elongated shape with a cone antenna, so the least resistance is provided.
  5. FF-E03, FF-E05, FF-E10, FF-E15. These floats have a long keel, which improves resistance to external factors.

To make a glowing float for night fishing, you can cover it with a layer of luminescent paint, which will give off some of the light in the dark. All modern floats are complemented by reliable batteries that last all night. By changing the batteries, you can go fishing again.

How to make an electronic float?

Another type of floats is electronic. Fishermen note that for all the thoughtfulness of the design, they have certain drawbacks.

The first and most important thing is that the float signals a bite with any external influence - ripples, immersion of the float at least 5 mm under water. That is, it turns out that the float, instead of showing the fisherman a bite, will confuse him.

The current during the operation of such a float is spent little, if it is dry, then energy will not be consumed. The batteries in this perfect and modern device are enough for 30 hours of constant glow of the diodes.

You can also make an electronic float for fishing with your own hands, if you do not want to spend money on buying a finished model. The easiest way to do it is with a glow stick, which is attached to the antenna.

An even simpler method is to cover the float with a special luminescent compound that can be used for a long time. True, such a float will not glow all the time, and if there is no backlight, it will even begin to fade.

Another way to improve the visibility of your float at night is to cover it with reflective film or paint so that it glows under the light of, for example, a flashlight.

Thus, fishermen always have the opportunity to choose a float that will meet their requirements. As for the color, experts advise choosing bright colors that will be noticeable on the water. Consider the features of the reservoir - the speed of the current, the presence and absence of algae, reeds, and much more. This will make your catch bigger.

For calm water

Calm water floats are useful if you are fishing in a pond or lake. You can use them at shallow depths - up to one and a half meters.

A float for fishing in calm waters should only resist the wind and the ripples it raises, so when choosing equipment, you need to take into account the minimum windage of the float and the minimum resistance to fish biting.

The ideal shape of the float is considered to be long when loaded with a maximum of 3 g. With this equipment, you can catch roach, perch, bream, crucian carp. The float moves easily through the water and just as easily stretches if there is a sudden bite.

Most often, fishing on still water is carried out on bleak, and therefore the gear is brought to perfection.

How to attach a nod to a whip

Now that we have figured out the design of the nod, it remains to determine how to fix it on the tip. The easiest way is to attach it to the whip perpendicularly and wind it with threads, filling the connection with waterproof glue.

On the course

A float for fishing in a strong current will constantly be affected by water and whirlpools, and this will also occur under water. In order for the float to withstand such a load and maintain its function as a bite alarm, it must be barrel-shaped, which will steadfastly float on the water, despite the wind and current.

The larger the diameter, the calmer the float will be on the water, while it does not matter what the thickness of the antenna is, and the keel must be long. This will make the float more stable and manageable.

The range of carrying capacity of floats in strong currents is wide - up to 30 g. As for equipment, it can be both deaf and running: the first is more convenient for a fisherman who can hook a fish in a timely manner.

The float is fastened for reliability in two places: first, the fishing line is passed through the ring at the bottom of the float, then it is clamped with a rubber ring below the antenna. Such a float is clearly visible on the water and is easy to control, but for fishing it is better to take a rod with a reel.

Bait

When choosing mormyshkas, keep in mind that summer models are slightly larger than winter ones, so you don’t need to be ashamed of the size, unless we are talking about fishing in the current using tungsten models. But, since our type of fishing is not used for strong currents, we will limit ourselves to mormyshkas made of lead and its alloys.

For ordinary lures, we will omit the description of the shape, since they, for the most part, have round or oval outlines. For them, the main thing is not the appearance, but what is on the hook.

But for summer jigs-mothless, shape and color are decisive factors.

For long distance casting

If you plan to fish in deep waters, where you need to throw tackle far, you will need a special float for fishing. They are heavy, so you can deliver the bait at a distance of more than 20 m from the shore, that is, where the fish are supposed to nest.

Most often, such floats are sliding, they are fixed on the fishing line with a special locking knot, and weighting is carried out with a thickened metal keel. The carrying capacity of such floats is sufficient, and it is better to equip the fishing rod with an inertialess reel.

Different types of floats for fishing have their own characteristics. Live bait is popular among fishermen, which are clearly visible on and under water.

The float is attached to the fishing line with rubber rings or locking knots.

From pen

Fishermen believe that the easiest way to make a float is to make it from a feather. It will turn out to be sensitive, so it is suitable for catching medium-sized fish.

The shape of the float will be keel-shaped, so even a light touch of the fish will be noticeable. The pen core is cleaned carefully so that its integrity is not violated.

Fastening to the fishing line is done with tape or a piece of nipple. In order for the feather to be noticeable on the water, it must be painted in a bright color.

The most popular combination is black, red and orange.

Styrofoam

If you are going fishing for a big and serious catch, and you need a homemade float, make it from cork or foam. The creation process is simple.

Despite the fact that the sensitivity of these floats is somewhat lower, only on them you can catch large-sized fish, since they have a large carrying capacity. To make a product, you need to take the foam and cut out the base from it.

A certain shape is attached to a grinder, grinder or drill. You need to push the rod through the workpiece - in this capacity, you can use a lollipop stick, a rod from a pen, and a metal wire.

The rod will be held on the line, and the float will hold securely on the surface.

Steel wire with a diameter of 0.8 millimeters and a length of about 25 centimeters. A spherical blank cut from foam plastic with a diameter of 23 millimeters. Cambric, weights, fishing line.

First, watch the introductory video from the Vladimir Severinov channel.

How to make a nod for catching in the summer

First you need to make a load for a nod weighing about 3 grams. As a basis, you can take a sliding load. We need two cambric, which will be worn on a 0.8 mm wire. You can replace the cambric with soft insulation from the wire. One cambric is needed about one centimeter long, and the second should exceed the length of the float by one centimeter.

After the weight is fixed, you can cut the nod of 20 cm in length to the desired length.

Consider again what is already ready at this stage of manufacturing the float. This is a wire with a load attached to it, a fishing line that will pass through 2 cambric, a float will be on the long cambric.

Next, we pass the fishing line through a long cambric, a float and a second cambric. Now you need to adjust the workpiece. It is recommended to install the load initially with a larger weight so that you can bite off the excess. The float should be about half submerged in water. By moving the float up and down the wire, we will ensure that the nod is in relation to the water at an angle of approximately 45-50 degrees.
How to adjust the tilt level of the nod? Assume that, as in the example shown, two weights and a hook are in the water column. If we want to catch, for example, crucian carp, we need to put a shepherd and a hook on the bottom. Just mix the float down and at the same time there will be an optimal slope to the water.

There is only one cambric under the foam plastic and it prevents the float from moving when hooking fish. If your cambric is not very tight, you can make a loop out of wire or a needle with an eye. You need to bite off a piece of wire, rewind it with thread, fix it with glue. The output of the fishing line in the lower part will be from under the cambric through the eyelet.

Differences between this float model and the original

The fishing magazine that outlined the idea for the float suggested making it from a bamboo stick. However, the author of the design presented in our article refused this, since the bamboo rod has a large thickness and increased windage in the wind. Presumably, such a float will deploy during the wind. In addition, the stick has its own buoyancy and when biting for drowning, it will be more difficult for it to nod down than a wire. The wire version will be more dynamic, as its lower part, which is in the water, is thinner and will cut through the water more easily.

In the original, it was proposed to make the exit of the fishing line from the end, and the entrance from the lower end. Here the entrance is made differently, because when the line is pulled, if it comes out from the lower end, the lever will turn on. When the fishing line is taut, the float will react as if it were a false bite.
When hooking, especially when biting on the rise, you need to sharply hook the fish. In the original version, the opposite will happen. Whoever is at the cutting, we will let the fishing line, and only then the cutting will start. In this embodiment, a soft undercut is obtained. First, the nod rises, the load is turned on, and only then, when the nod straightens out, the hooking is obtained. There is no obvious weakening of the line.

It is desirable to make the load such that it sinks the float to the middle. In this case, it will spin on the water. With less immersion of the float, the nod will be unstable. If the float is immersed more, then the movements of the nod will not be rotational, but translational.

If you want to make the float more visible, you can put a bright colored cambric on its upper part.
The float of this design is not so easy to operate. When functioning, much more laws of physics are involved than with the operation of a conventional float. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account some of its features. When the float falls on the water, it can, as it were, stick to the water, take a horizontal position. There are several ways to fix this. You can try to increase the power of the float by increasing the diameter of the foam and put a larger weight. The second way is to change the inclination of the float to the water, so that it does not stand at an angle of 45-50 degrees, but increase it to 70-75 degrees. In addition to these methods, you can reduce the length of the nod. The problem will be greater if a wooden blank is used instead of wire.

Below is a picture with slightly adjusted parameters: float diameter (25 mm), weights: on a nod (4 g) and on a snap (in total 1-1.5 g). The length of the nod can be slightly reduced to 19 cm. These small changes can eliminate the possibility of the nod sticking to the water.

If the fishing line sticks, then in the middle of the nod, you can put more additional cambric.
Proposed heavier than usual, perhaps that is why it has not found wide application. However, he is very interesting for his sensitive bites. It is not effective in windy weather, so it is not used in such weather.

In conclusion, a spectacular fishing video for this float.

Fishing on unimproved reservoirs with a high concentration of vegetation is always interesting for fishermen. Indeed, in such places flocks of peaceful fish like to hide, predators hunt. But often the casting of the rod in areas with algae ends with a break in the tackle, the loss of the bait.

And so that such fishing does not lead to a spoiled mood and losses, folk craftsmen found a way out of the situation - this is a nod for a summer fishing rod, which can be easily assembled at home. Let's analyze all the nuances of this invention in more detail.

What is it and what is it for

This piece of rig is an interesting replacement for a float. Allows you to lure fish even without a bait. Attaches to the top of the rod.

Another name for the side nod is a summer mormyshka or a bite signaling device. In terms of activity, the fishing process is second only to spinning.

Tackle with a nod is thrown into the open window between the algae.

Of the purchased options, it is worth choosing products made of hard material so that the equipment does not react to gusts of wind and does not give signals of false bites.

A side nod for summer fishing should be used in ponds with a weak current or in stagnant water.

As a headless mormyshka it is necessary to use:

  • ant;
  • goat;
  • drop;
  • drawing.

Experienced fishermen note the good work of the combined option: a hook with beads (pendants) and a devil.

What are the nods

Depending on the raw materials used, the following types are distinguished:

  1. Plastic (polycarbonate). It is not difficult to make such a side nod with your own hands. As a basis, you can take an ordinary plastic bottle. However, a significant disadvantage of the product is its low strength. This nod is hardly suitable for reusable use.
  2. Lavsan. Durable material with high reliability. Has good elasticity. Suitable for both winter and summer fishing. It is not worth imitating the factory version at home. A homemade lavsan nod will last a season at best.
  3. Silicone. Of all types - the cheapest. But that's where its benefits end. Differs in rapid wear and tear. Equipment for 2-time fishing.
  4. Metal. Has good rigidity. Perfect for fishing in the depths of rivers and other bodies of water with a strong current. It is indispensable in winter fishing: it provides mormyshka with an active game. A working nod is easy to make yourself.

The type of nod determines its seasonality of use, fishing tactics. The material from which it is made, the service life, the cost of the product.

Separately, it is worth noting the spring gatehouse: the second name of a nod for winter fishing. They are good at catching large trophies on the balancer.

Choosing the right rod

Replacing the float with a nod, the tip becomes the main part of the rod. It should be quite rigid and reliable so that it does not bend under the weight of a nod with a mormyshka.

The rod is equipped with a small inertial coil. The fishing line is taken as thin as possible with a diameter of 0.1–0.25 mm and always transparent.

The side fastening of the nod is due to the convenience of observing bites, since the tackle can be at a great distance from the fisherman.

A nod is mounted on the side of the rod tip on a special elastic band - a clutch.

The nod to the summer rod should be brightly colored so that it stands out against the background of the water surface and the surrounding vegetation.

If you decide to hunt for a predator, do not forget about the use of vertical spinners, balancers.

At the preparation stage, it is necessary to unwind the rod. Then turn the line around the blank several times. Pass the end of the fishing line through the ring of the signaling device, and fix the mormyshka on the same end.

The use of a summer lateral nod allows you to use several fishing methods in practice. Among them:

  1. Bottom game. The mormyshka is allowed to sink to the bottom of the reservoir. After a few seconds, they raise it by 10 cm and twitch, imitating movements. Then they lower it back to the bottom.
  2. Tension. This method is only suitable for fishing in strong currents. Mormyshka is immersed to the bottom and slowly begin to lift to the surface of the water. In this case, the line remains taut.
  3. Fall - rise. Mormyshka in free fall lies on the bottom. Then gradually, intermittently, it is raised to its original position. And this is repeated over and over again.
  4. Calm state. The required depth is set. The rod is thrown to the desired point and a bite is expected.
  5. Fishing movement. Mormyshka intermittently descends to the bottom, and then abruptly rises to the surface of the water.
  6. Drawing. The rod sets the movement of the mormyshka along the bottom in such a way that the bait is slowly dragged along the ground.
  7. Finger play. The mormyshka is twitched in the water column, lightly tapping on the rod body.
  8. Bottom game. The lowered mormyshka is given translational movements. The bait should not come off the bottom.

Experienced fishermen note that mormyshka wiring should be carried out in the direction of the water flow. Playing mormyshka will create an imitation of the natural movement of insects in the water. Fish are more willing to respond to such tricks.

Choosing a nozzle

In addition to bait-less mormyshkas for fishing in the summer, you can use:

  • worm;
  • bloodworm;
  • maggot.

Animal bait neatly clings to the hook. You can experiment with colored threads, beads, silicone parts. But in order for such a nozzle to be interesting for a predator, it is necessary to ensure an active game.

Making a nod yourself at home

When starting to assemble this part of the equipment, you need to understand that the design for each season has significant differences. How to make a working nod for each season yourself, we will analyze in more detail.

For summer fishing

Any improvised means can become the raw material for the signaling device:

  • springs from old watches;
  • part of the construction roulette;
  • broken rod knee;
  • cut strip from a plastic bottle with a minimum capacity of 1 liter;
  • plastic tape for packing furniture or goods.

When preparing for fishing, experienced fishermen are advised to have several nods of different sizes in the arsenal. The material for creation should also be different, because a hard nod is optimal for a heavy mormyshka, soft and elastic - for a light nozzle on crucian, roach, perch.

The easiest to create a nod from a bottle. We will consider its manufacture step by step:

  1. Scissors cut a workpiece 20 to 30 cm long with a top width of 0.5 cm, from the other end - 1 cm.
  2. Irregularities, burrs are smoothed out with a file.
  3. A standard paper clip is taken and unbent to form a piece of straight wire.
  4. After that, a ring with a diameter of 0.5 cm is formed from it at the ends with two legs. They are needed for fastening to the top of the future nod.
  5. The ring is attached to the body of the nod with threads. Treated with waterproof adhesive.
  6. The finished product is painted with varnish or paint in different colors.

An alternative to a plastic bottle is a broken rod knee. The body of the signaling device of the required length is cut out of it. Sanded with a file. The manufacture of the ring and fastening to the body is similar to the first option.

For fly fishing

To create a reliable side nod for a summer fishing rod with your own hands, you will need:

  • a piece of thick rubber;
  • thin soft spring;
  • a small piece of foam;
  • waterproof glue;
  • scissors.

You can simplify the process of fishing from a boat with the help of a side nod. This is a good option in the hunt for a predator.

The order of work is as follows:

  1. We try to cut a neat ball out of the foam with scissors. We make a hole in it for the spring.
  2. Fill the hole with glue and immediately attach the spring there. Let the glue dry for two minutes.
  3. From a piece of rubber cut out a retainer for a nod. The size of the workpiece must be at least 2 * 1 cm. We make 2 holes in it so that we can thread the spring and fasten it to the rod.
  4. We fix the rubber mount. The bite alarm is ready.

If you do not want to use rubber, then you can simply thread the spring into the upper ring of the bead tackle. Attach its end to the fishing rod and seal with electrical tape.

For winter fishing

The creation algorithm is as follows:

  1. A knitting needle is taken and a fishing line is wound in tight turns over its entire length. It is better to do this in several layers so that there are no gaps between the turns.
  2. We hold the fishing line on the knitting needle by both edges and hold it for half a minute over the gas burner. It should heat up but not melt. This will strengthen the connection of the turns, and they will be more tightly compressed together.
  3. Then we lower the needle into cold water.
  4. We remove the workpiece from the knitting needle. You should get a spring from the fishing line.
  5. From it we cut out a nod of the desired length.
  6. We fasten the signaling device to the rod, we pass the fishing line through it. Ready.

For the manufacture of a working nod in winter fishing conditions, it is recommended to use not a wire, but a fishing line with a thickness of 0.3 - 0.4 mm.

For feeder fishing

Lateral nods have become popular among spinners using the rod as a bottom tackle. Nods clearly convey bites of various strengths, which increase the efficiency of fishing at times.

Do not use a silicone blank or thin plastic as a basis. In intermittent strong winds, such a signaling device will sway in all directions, and it will become more difficult to see the bite.

The best option is to purchase an inexpensive factory version, adjust it or, if necessary, reconstruct it for a rod.

The nod for bottom tackle should be easily removed so as not to interfere with casting.

We will consider the nuances of fasteners below.

The easiest way is to make a rubber mount. In a piece of rubber, 2 holes are cut parallel to each other. The tip of the tackle is threaded into one, and a nod into the other. But such a retainer is best used for lavsan, plastic nods.

The photo clearly shows an example of fixing a nod to a rod using a nail and electrical tape.

For metal, it will be more reliable to use a nail 5 cm long or a piece of thick wire. The cap is removed from the nail with pliers. Bend in the center at an angle of 45–600. After that, the workpiece must be carefully wrapped with a thread. Lubricate with glue. Give time to dry.

Fasten in this form tightly in the tip of the rod with electrical tape, then to the nod.

For many fishermen, the hand-made nod has become an excellent solution for fishing in the thicket, bringing not only the pleasure of the fishing process, but also many overall trophies.
