Hyundai Creta has been produced since 2014, but has already become a worthy competitor to Renault Duster. The compact crossover attracts with its interesting design, affordable price and, most importantly, reliability. For the Russian market, only gasoline versions with G4FG and G4NA engines are provided. Their volume is 1.6 liters and 2.0 liters. They were modified specifically for this model, although they were used by the Korean company earlier. Diesel versions 1.4 and 1.6 CRDi are not available in the Russian Federation. Although, there may soon be used diesel cars imported from other countries. At the moment, Hyundai Greta is offered with gasoline internal combustion engines, six-speed automatic transmissions and manual transmissions, as well as front or all-wheel drive.

More about Hyundai Creta engines

This is the G4FG, which is an analogue of the Hyundai Solaris G4FC motor. For the powertrain, engineers used an aluminum cylinder block, a CVVT system, separate ignition coils for each cylinder, a chain drive, and distributed injection. There are no hydraulic compensators, the clearances are adjusted mechanically. The power of the power unit is 123 liters. With. The consumption of Hyundai Greta in the combined cycle ranges from 8 liters per 100 kilometers.

The Nu G4NA line motor is built on the basis of the G4KD. The cylinder block is made of light-alloy material for lighter weight. The intake and exhaust shafts are equipped with a CVVT system. The engine is equipped with hydraulic lifters, the geometry of the intake tract is variable. A two-liter aspirated engine develops 150 liters. With. power. The presence of roller levers, hydraulic lifters complicates the design. Therefore, a number of high requirements are put forward for the cleanliness of the internal combustion engine and the quality of the lubricant. It is advisable to change the oil at intervals of 7.5 thousand km.

The features of Hyundai Greta engines include:

  • Aluminum cylinder block that is lightweight and resistant to corrosion. The manufacturer uses spraying in the form of a hard layer to harden the surface of the cylinders. The block uses thin-walled cast-iron sleeves filled with liquid aluminum. Due to the softness of aluminum, boring of cylinders with the installation of repair pistons is not possible. Therefore, it is believed that Hyundai Creta engines are not particularly maintainable. Nevertheless, their estimated resource exceeds 200 thousand km.
  • Everything is the same as found on other motors of the Gamma and Nu series. This means that we should expect the speed to float when refueling with low-grade gasoline and untimely maintenance, which will lead to a malfunction of the ECU settings, contamination of the throttle valve. To clean the Hyundai Creta engine from carbon deposits, oil deposits, we recommend prophylactic flushing with an additive. This is especially true when you are switching to a new brand of oil or have violated the maintenance schedule. This is because MF5 gently cleans the oil system, and then restores worn cylinder walls, utilizes metal oxides, and restores elasticity to rubber seals.
  • Leakage of engine oil from under the timing cover, in the area of the junction of the cylinder block and the head (with high mileage). A knock in the gas distribution mechanism, provoked by a stretched chain, is also likely.
  • The Hyundai Creta engine is designed for oil with a viscosity of SAE 20, which indicates high-precision assembly, strict maintenance of clearances on the camshafts and liners.

Hyundai Greta engine blocks have cast iron liners, so the RVS Master additive is optimal for restoration and comprehensive protection. It cleans aluminum surfaces, forms a dense cermet layer on ferrous metal parts.

An oil additive is used for CIP repairs on a 1.6-liter Gamma G4FG engine and a 2-liter G4NA engine. Indeed, in the lubrication system of the first one fits 3.6 liters of oil, and the second - 4 liters of oil. Thanks to the use of an additive before replacing consumables, the following results can be achieved:

  1. Strengthening of friction units.
  2. Normalization of low compression, which has fallen due to natural wear of the internal combustion engine.
  3. Reduction of oil consumption - up to 30%, and fuel consumption - up to 15%.
  4. Minimizing the amount of noise and vibration.
  5. Simplification of cold start, the motor starts easier, stops triplet before warming up.
  6. Increased engine resource.

Brief overview of Hyundai Greta transmissions

The six-speed manual on the Hyundai Creta is the M6CF1, which was also fitted to. There are practically no complaints about the manual transmission, the masters note that sometimes it is necessary to repair the cable drive. The gear engagement is clear, but the lever travel is slightly increased.

A version of Greta with a six-speed automatic transmission A6MF1 is also available. Oil is filled in it for the entire service life, but it is advisable to replace it with a mileage of 60-70 thousand km. This will extend the transmission life, avoid jolts, jerks, kicks, crunching, knocking and other noises when changing gears.

The crossover is available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The 4WD version is based on AWD Dynamax technologies. It operates in two modes: AUTO and LOCK. In the first case, the crossover behaves similarly to a front-wheel drive car until the ECU, according to the readings of CAN sensors, decides to connect an all-wheel drive with thrust distribution on 2 axles. The inclusion of the second mode, blocking, is possible only at speeds up to 40 km / h. This will provide maximum tractive effort, easy overcoming of descents and ascents.

The multi-plate clutch on the all-wheel drive Hyundai Creta is the same as on the Tucson. It is prone to overheating under high loads. To extend the resource of the manual transmission and all-wheel drive, we recommend that you make preventive treatment with a special additive for the axle, transfer case, box. This will protect contact parts, gears, gears from wear, facilitate easy and precise shifting, extend the life of the transfer case and axle, and save you from unpleasant howling and hum.

The A6MF1 will do the job for restoring and saving the assault rifle. The additive will protect against breakdowns caused by overheating. Together with a preventive change of the transmission fluid, the use of the additive will prolong the life of bearings, solenoids with fine settings that work in a group: some shift speeds, others monitor the quality of this shift.

If my choice surprises you, I will explain: as of December 2016, this modification was one of the most popular. The starting price of a 1.6-liter mono-drive with hydromechanics did not exceed a million rubles, which from the point of view of the psychology of the buyer turned out to be a success. But those wishing to purchase an all-wheel drive crossover until last week had to overpay for a 150-horsepower two-liter engine. The price of such versions steadily rushed to a million and a quarter. And here not everyone retained interest in Crete.

At the dealership, I was given a completely new crossover in Marina Blue color (surcharge for any color except white - 5000 rubles) in the Comfort package. The Advanced package (heating the rear row, steering wheel and windshield, rear-view camera, leather steering wheel and Supervision dashboard) for fifty thousand rubles went to the test Crete as an option. Then - before the New Year holidays - the cost of such a car was 1,054,900 rubles. Today, for a similar one, you will have to pay almost 1.1 million. Nevertheless, given the level of equipment of Crete and the price lists of the main ones, the pricing does not cause protest.

But the interior at the first meeting seems too simple. There is not a single gram of soft plastic, there is no automatic driver's glass closer and there is no banal illumination of the passenger control keys. And yes - the 5-inch touchscreen of the head unit is disastrously small by modern standards. As a result, just the thought that 22 thousand people could not be so harshly mistaken somehow suppresses the skepticism that is arising in me.

The first kilometers do not cause much enthusiasm either: the steering wheel seems to be pinched (and it really is), the noise from the engine after four thousand revolutions is more distinct than we would like. And although the suspensions perfectly work out any irregularities, and the 123-horsepower 1.6-liter aspirated engine in fact turns out to be not so "dead", I still wonder: is this really the best crossover for about a million rubles? I am perplexed and have no idea how much I will become attached to this car during our two-month test.

To fall in love with Creta, you need nothing at all: stop waiting for the driver's revelations from her and begin to perceive it exclusively as a household appliance. You don't expect the refrigerator to cheer you up by chilling food itself. And do not sit, "sticking" to the rotating drum of the washing machine. All you need is fresh food and clean clothes. Here is the same thing with Crete. Although from the height of two months of life together, I can assure you that she is going well.

The steering wheel is heated around the entire circumference. Seat heaters - fire. In all senses. There is enough space in the back for a comfortable fit of two tall passengers. And with the rear seat folded down, you can easily transport three adult bicycles here - with the front wheels removed, of course. Ultimately, in 60 days, I have never found myself in a situation in which I could be disappointed in Crete's capabilities. She started up in any frost, warmed up and delivered from one point to another with more than adequate comfort. With any luggage. Is that on days of snowfall a little was not enough.

In contrast, Creta perfectly digests 92nd gasoline: no hints of detonation, no drawdown in dynamics and no increase in fuel consumption. In the city, a 1.6-liter engine burns a little over nine liters per hundred in four "boilers", while driving on the highway the family is content. And if you try - six and a half.

Of course, during the test, the interior plastic did not become soft, the diagonal of the touchscreen of the multimedia system did not increase by a millimeter. However, in the absence of serious disadvantages, you simply stop paying attention to these little things. In addition, the thought that from the point of view of Crete also should not be problematic is warming. Here is a simple atmospheric engine, a classic hydromechanical automatic ... And if we talk about a 1.6-liter version - a simple, like two rubles, rear beam.

According to statistics, the most popular type of cars in Russia are crossovers, and a budget crossover is the dream of almost every second driver. Therefore, the Hyundai Creta model, which first appeared on the Russian market in 2016, was eagerly awaited by many.

Let's discuss whether the Korean crossover has met expectations. What is good about Hyundai Greta and also what limitations and weak spots does this model have?

List of clear advantages

Price

Hyundai Creta confidently outstripped its competitors at the price of the budget variant of the model. This is perhaps the best price for a car of this quality on the market. You can buy a crossover from 789,000 rubles, while the main competitor in the class Renault Kaptur offers customers its car from 879,000 rubles, Kia Sportage - from 1,179,000 rubles, and Nissan, Mitsubishi and Toyota require more more. Prices are presented according to official dealers for 2017.

Equipment

Paradoxically, the equipment of the car is both a plus and a minus. The disadvantage is that most of the seemingly standard options are only present in the latest version. But let's talk about this below. In the meantime, let's discuss the technical equipment of the top-end configuration.

In the maximum version of the model, the car owner is provided with the following options:

  • Starting the engine from the button;
  • Leather seats;
  • All-wheel drive clutch blocking;
  • Electric power steering;
  • Descent assistance system;
  • Hill Start Assist system.

Latest technology allows for unimpeded uphill climbing with a slope of 50⁰... In this case, you can stop, stand for a few seconds and continue moving freely. This option, as well as the system "Era GLONASS", which allows you to call for help in the event of an accident, comes as standard with the car. The clutch lock function will fully unleash Greta's capabilities as a crossover. With its help, you will confidently overcome the washed-out dirt road. Greta's cross-country ability is very similar to Renault Kaptur, the main competitor in the Korean class and price range.

Salon

In comparison with Renault Kaptur and Duster, the Korean crossover wins, both in terms of aesthetics and in terms of interior comfort. Inside Greta you feel like driving a European car. Despite the fact that plastic is inexpensive, the finish is attractive, and the embossed surface of the dashboard even makes you think that it is leather.

The steering wheel is adjustable not only in height, but also in reach. Although this option is presented only in the maximum version, the Kaptur even in the top-end configuration no calibration provided departure. The seats can also be adjusted in height, reach and angle. This versatile setting allows the driver to feel comfortable behind the wheel of the car, and the lateral support of the seats securely fixes the body in turns. I would also like to note the sound insulation, which is much better in Hyundai.

In terms of trunk volume, the "Korean" is ahead of Kaptur: 431 liters versus 378 liters. Moreover, Greta has a full-size wheel under the trunk, while Kaptur has just a stowaway. But Hyundai loses in this indicator to the front-wheel drive version of the Duster, where the trunk volume is 475 liters, and in the all-wheel drive version - 408 liters. But the clear leader in spaciousness was Kia with a volume of 491 liters.

Feeling of driving

What is good about Hyundai Greta, so it is a combination of dynamics and smoothness. A 6-speed automatic transmission, which is used on crossovers with a 2-liter engine, played a role here. Thanks to the perfectly tuned gear ratio, the car accelerates faster and more confidently.

It is impossible not to mention the steering wheel calibration. At low speeds, it is softer, and when you press the gas pedal, it becomes harder. This distribution of effort makes the road feel better.

Although she is based on the Solaris, Greta does not have the same suspension problems as her older brother. The multi-link suspension of the Hyundai Creta imperceptibly swallows all the unevenness of the road, allowing passengers to feel comfortable, as if they are in the interior of an expensive German car. Something similar happens behind the wheel of a Duster - this Frenchman also confidently absorbs bumps and freely cuts through dirt roads. And Kaptur engineers cannot boast of such things. Their suspension is more sensitive. According to this indicator, the new Sportage was unpleasantly surprised, which overcomes the relief even harder than its opponents, although in cost it goes far ahead.

Disadvantages and weaknesses

The most striking disadvantage of this model is the configuration. The marketers of the Korean company interested the market with an incredibly low price - 749 thousand rubles (as of 2016). This is the starting cost of Greta's budget version. But what can they offer for this price? In the basic configuration of the crossover, there is not even an air conditioner, not to mention heated seats or a lift assist system. Even the original LED headlights, which give Hyundai its modernity and style, only come in higher trim levels. According to this indicator, Renault confidently wins, where there is an air conditioner, a heated rear window, and an engine start button.

By the way, Greta's maximum configurations are slightly higher. The all-wheel drive 2-liter crossover with the Comfort Plus package will cost 1,200 thousand rubles, and Renault with the same characteristics will cost 1,180 thousand rubles.

Unlike Greta, Kaptur manufacturers can offer four transmission options - 5 and 6-speed mechanics, a 4-level automatic and a variator. At Hyundai, the case with the transmission is simpler - a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Due to the variator, Renault turned out to be slightly more economical than its opponent. The difference of 1 liter is not great, but when calculated for thousands of kilometers, it becomes more noticeable. Many buyers in Greta's lineup lack the 2-liter engine and manual transmission. In this regard, Renault Duster and Kaptur have a huge advantage.

Another disadvantage of Greta before the "French" is the clearance - 190 mm versus 204 mm for Kaptur and 210 mm for Duster. Given the larger size of Renault wheels, Hyundai clearly loses off-road when possible to overcome steep bumps and slopes. And when installing a steel crankcase protection, the clearance is reduced by another 10-12 mm, which is comparable to the clearance of some sedans.

A clear drawback that many Creta users have pointed out is the lack of a standard option like cruise control. Moreover, this function is not even in the latest crossover configuration, which costs almost 1.2 million. This fact surprised many car owners.

The weak points of the car are the immobilizer and automatic transmission. Many car owners have encountered a problem when starting the engine. They started it up every other time, and coming to the official dealer, everything started to work. The problem is that the immobilizer and the gasoline pump must be given two to three seconds to check after inserting the key, and then turn it. Some car owners have eliminated the problem by stripping the contacts on the immobilizer.

Another weak link of the model is the fastidious automatic, which, it seems, does not tolerate slipping more than others. With an untimely oil change, the wear of the clutch and friction bagel occurs much faster. Therefore, it is important to monitor the condition of the fluid and promptly replace it. Hydraulic plates are also a nuisance of automatic transmissions, which quickly fail when overheated or low-quality oil. Moreover, for boxes of type "L", "M" and "G" this element is not universal, and the driver will have to select the appropriate hydraulic plate for a particular transmission.

Summarize

Considering all of the above, we can say with confidence that Hyundai Greta is a good crossover, which turned out to be a worthy competitor to Renault Kaptur, and in some respects even surpassed it. It is perfectly prepared for Russian roads and well equipped from a technical point of view (apart from the lack of cruise control). In comparison with the Duster, it is slightly less passable, but more comfortable and technically equipped. And minor shortcomings in front of the Sportage pale against the background of a gigantic difference in price.

Greta is a comfortable and modern vehicle that performs well both on the highway and off-road. There is no dispute about tastes, but one thing is for sure - the Korean newcomer has already occupied a niche in this segment and will continue to amaze consumers.

12.04.2018

The Korean company Hyundai has become popular among motorists due to the use of low-maintenance power units with balanced technical characteristics. Each model has unique motors, developed and manufactured in our own production facilities. Creta's line of crossovers is no exception. Consumers are offered such Hyundai Creta engines as:

  • 1.6 MPI;
  • 2.0 MPI.

Each of them runs on gasoline fuel. In addition, they are characterized by both positive aspects and disadvantages. There is a constant discussion in the community regarding the possibility of using other engine options. There is a need to use diesel-fueled engines, or examples with a turbocharger. On the other hand, what is currently available has long been familiar to domestic owners of other car models of the Korean brand. The modernization of the design has led to an increase in competitiveness, while maintaining the simplicity and reliability - something that is appreciated by Russian drivers.

1.6 MPI

The presented motor is part of the Gamma line with the designation G4FG. It is the most popular and best-selling Creta 1.6 engine, which is used in parallel in a number of other vehicle models. The line, although it cannot boast of the highest power indicators, was not taken as a basis by the engineers. The management gave them a fundamentally different task - to provide a "golden mean" between noise, performance, dimensions, environmental performance and economy. According to critics, the specialists were able to more than successfully cope with their mission.

The 1.6-liter Gamma G4FG engine is not a fundamentally new development of the Korean manufacturer's engineering laboratory. The basis is taken by another, no less popular Hyundai Gamma G4FC engine, which is very popular among Solaris owners. As for the performance indicators, given the displacement, they are more than good - in stock it is 123 horsepower. Traction - 155 Nm.

Hyundai 1.6 G4FG engine

If we consider the technological features of the presented engines, it is important to note here that the engineers decided to use a cylinder block made of aluminum. The design provides for two DOHC overhead camshafts. The gas distribution mechanism works thanks to a chain with a sufficiently high resource. The fuel system includes a multipoint injection system consisting of a rail and an injector. The intake mechanism is equipped with a constant variable valve timing system, called the abbreviation CVVT. The ignition system differs from that on some other engines in that the coils are now located separately - each of them is responsible for only one cylinder. As for the cylinders themselves, each of them received four valves.

An interesting decision was made for hydraulic lifters. They are now completely absent. An alternative is the gap adjustment system, which is mechanically adjusted every 90 thousand kilometers. The use of these technological solutions had a positive effect on the production of balanced engines capable of demonstrating a good safety margin, unpretentiousness, as well as the ability of Hyundai Kreta to “digest” 92nd gasoline. Most importantly, the 1.6-liter engine has a moderate appetite.

The G4FG has a number of unique features. If we consider the key features, it is again worth highlighting the CVVT system, but here it is installed at the outlet and at the inlet immediately. Keeping the ECU from Bosch allowed for improved performance through some tweaking of the software. In total, the 129-horsepower motor is enough to comfortably ride around the city. But for those who find the 1.6-liter engine sluggish, it is highly recommended to pay attention to the two-liter version.

2.0 MPI

The Creta Nu G4NA 2.0 2.0-liter engine is not new. This is a significantly modified version of the two-liter aspirated G4KD. Initially, it was neither powerful nor economical. However, there were no complaints about him either. Nu G4NA 2.0 was first introduced in 2013. As for the design, we have in front of us the same two-liter naturally aspirated engine, built on the basis of an aluminum cylinder block. The gas distribution mechanism has a chain drive. A two-shaft head and hydraulic valve lifters are mounted in parallel. As a result, the use of the latter allows drivers to avoid the need to constantly check and adjust them. On the other hand, there were some peculiarities.

Hyundai Nu G4NA 2.0 engine

As in the case of the 1.6-liter version, the CVVT system is also dual, that is, it is present at the inlet and outlet. The fuel system is of the greatest interest. For Russian consumers, the manufacturer will initiate the supply of vehicles with conventional distributed injection. European buyers are more fortunate because they get direct injection engines and a modified CVVT system, where you can quickly adjust the height to which the valves are raised. As in the case of the less productive version, the power unit of the Creta 2.0 also supports the ability to run on 92 gasoline.

The intrigue has developed with the performance indicators. In the passport documentation, it ranges from 164 to 167 hp. For Russian consumers, the figures are more modest - 150 hp. There is a reasonable explanation for this - the owners will not have to spend more money on tax payments. On the other hand, the decrease in performance is caused only by the software. You may ask - what does all this mean for the client, how can this data affect him? Everything is very simple - the buyer receives a car with a power lower than the declared one. If necessary, using a banal chip system, you can raise 14-17 forces without technical adjustments, while not being afraid that such changes will negatively affect the state of the power plant.

Based on the above, it can be noted that the power units of the Crete are characterized by good indicators of power and efficiency. On the one hand, a potential buyer has a choice in favor of economy or dynamics. On the other hand, if you prefer a two-liter engine, you can significantly increase the dynamic characteristics with a simple chip. If fuel consumption is more important, it is better to pay attention to the smaller 1.6 MPI model.

Slightly inferior to him in size. The length of the car body is 4270 mm, width - 1780 mm, height - 1630 mm, wheelbase - 2590 mm. The trunk of the model holds a minimum of 402 liters, the maximum (with the rear seats folded down) is 1396 liters. The clearance of Hyundai Greta is 190 mm, the overhangs are quite short - 840 mm each.

There are no surprises in the line of crossover engines - two gasoline "aspirated" engines from the Hyundai Motor Company. The initial unit is a 1.6 MPI unit with 123 hp. (151 Nm), which are equipped with the same and. Under the hood, the Hyundai Greta motor works in conjunction with a 6-speed manual or 6-range automatic. Both versions are front-wheel drive.

The 1.6-liter engine is accompanied by a "four" 2.0 D-CVVT with a return of 149.6 hp. (192 Nm). The engine is only mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, but you can choose between front- or all-wheel drive configurations. The version with plug-in all-wheel drive is equipped with a rear independent multi-link, while the rest of the modifications have a semi-independent torsion beam at the rear.

None of the variations of the 2018-2019 Hyundai Creta spoils the dynamics. The most promising triumvirate in this regard - the 2.0 + 6АКПП + front-wheel drive engine - accelerates the car to 100 km / h in 10.7 seconds. All other versions are slower than 11 seconds.

Fuel consumption Hyundai Greta varies in the range of 7-8 liters. The most economical modification is formed by a tandem of a 1.6-liter engine and a 6MKPP.
