How to tell if an engine is troit: signs and symptoms. What does the expression "engine troit" mean? The machine strongly triples all cylinders work

The impetus for writing this post was the real repair at the request of the client, which consisted in a simple replacement of the vacuum amplifier, but is it not true that the engine can be tripled not from that ... In the post I want to consider the main reasons for this unpleasant phenomenon, as well as methods of diagnostics and repair.

Let's start with the signs that the engine is troit. Engine troop - this means that one or more cylinders are not working. Accordingly, the engine does not develop full power, does not have the necessary tractive effort, the fuel consumption increases ... But we already all know this, more to the point.

Reasons for "triplet" of the engine of a VAZ car

  • Incorrect ignition timing
  • Air leaks in the vacuum brake booster system
  • Malfunctioning spark plug
  • High-voltage wire breakdown
  • Capacitor malfunction
  • Loss of tightness in the area of the intake manifold (intake manifold, carburetor)
  • Burnout valve, piston
  • Broken piston rings
  • Incorrect valve adjustment
  • Destruction of wear on rockers (valve levers)
  • Breakdown of the cylinder head gasket
  • Wear, hardening, destruction of valve stem seals
  • Very poor fuel quality
  • Incorrect carburetor adjustment
  • Worn distributor shaft, pivot plate bearing
  • Loss of tightness of the membrane of the vacuum pre-ignition
  • I do not take into account the use of candles that are not suitable for the engine and other "malfunctions"

Perhaps not all the reasons, but what I could remember, if you have something to add, then write in the comments.

Important! You can determine a non-working cylinder using a simple, old and reliable method - alternately removing the high-voltage wire from the spark plug. You have to be very careful here, because you can get an electric shock! To carry out this manipulation more safely, it is necessary to stand on a dielectric (rubber, wood), take a clean dry rag, remove it by the wire, and not by the cap, do not touch the car body at this time. It is checked very simply, the idle speed rises to 1500 rpm by suction, and one by one we remove the caps from the candles. If the revolutions fall with the cap removed, then the cylinder works, if there is no difference, then the cylinder does not work accordingly.

Well, now let's talk about each of the reasons in more detail.

Thanks for subscribing!

  1. Incorrect ignition timing. With this option, I personally know not a tripping, but a seemingly slamming engine (gaps), which is accompanied by a “bouncing” of the entire engine. This is especially noticeable at idle, as the speed increases, the gaps disappear. Most likely, your ignition is set too early, this may be evidenced by the jerky cranking of the engine by the starter when starting.
  2. Quite often, the reason for the triplet engine VAZ of all models (except for the VAZ 2101, which does not have a vacuum brake booster) is the loss of tightness in the hose, diaphragm, valve. As a result, excess air appears in the intake manifold, which leads to a depletion of the mixture and gaps in the ignition of the mixture in the cylinder, as a result of which the candle can get wet and stop igniting the compressed mixture.
  3. A defective spark plug is one of the most common causes of engine troit. There is nothing special to tell, it is important to remember and replace the candles regularly, the presence of a spark on an inverted candle at atmospheric pressure does not indicate its full performance, because ignition occurs under much more difficult conditions (the magazine "Behind the wheel", still Soviet times).
  4. At this point, I will combine the breakdown of the high-voltage wire and the capacitor on the contact ignition system. Breakdown of a wire can be determined by replacing all wires, as well as a capacitor. You can also try to determine the breakdown of the wire by looking at them in complete darkness, if there is a breakdown somewhere, then you will see flashes.
  5. Loss of tightness in the collector area, as a rule, does not occur by itself. This is more often due to improper assembly or poor gaskets. I also had a case when they complained about idling. The reason was the elimination of the vacuum ignition advance and the unmuffled vacuum take-off tube on the carburetor.
  6. As a rule, when a piston or valve burns out, the cylinder stops working at all or does not work for a long time. It can only be determined by measuring the compression and opening the engine.
  7. Breakage or sticking of piston rings is also not a very frequent phenomenon, because a number of conditions are necessary for its occurrence. You can check by measuring the compression, if it turns out to be low, then eliminate the cylinder head malfunction in a simple way - pour a little oil into the cylinder, if the compression increases, then there is a malfunction in the piston system.
  8. With incorrect valve adjustment, everything is clear anyway - any valve may not open or close completely. Correct valve adjustment can cure this problem. Rocker wear can cause a similar problem. The valve stops opening properly and the cylinder stops working.
  9. Well, now let's go over briefly about the problems that may arise with the distributor. Quite often, on not new machines, wear of both the shaft itself and the bushings in which it rotates is found, as a result of which it becomes impossible to establish an adequate gap between the contacts. The same happens if the bearing of the pivot plate is worn out. Also, gaps can occur due to depressurization in the vacuum pre-ignition timing device, where the membrane can fail.

So I wrote a few reasons why a VAZ engine can triple, if you want to notice or ask something - write below, in the comments!

Before you start looking for the causes of this problem and find out what it can lead to, you need to figure out what the engine troit means. Otherwise, this phenomenon is called "missing" and means interruptions in the operation of one or more cylinders of an internal combustion engine. The term "troite" owes its origin to the four-cylinder internal combustion engine. If one of the cylinders fails, only three work. As a result, the motor does not pull, this becomes especially noticeable during acceleration. At present, a six- and even twelve-cylinder power unit can also "triple", although this is not entirely true from the point of view of the Russian language. As a visual aid on the Internet, you can find a video of the triple engine, and there you can also find a video on what to do in such situations.

You can understand what the motor has touched by the changed sound of its operation. You can hear it especially well if you stand next to the exhaust pipe.

Other signs accompanying a malfunction are erratic idle speed, body vibration, increased fuel consumption and loss of power (the engine does not pull). Since each of the accompanying symptoms is characteristic of other problems, they need to be considered only as a whole.

It is necessary to find out why the engine is troit as soon as possible, since the consequences of untimely repairs can become so serious that, in the end, the entire motor assembly will have to be replaced.

Why is the engine troit

At first glance, the causes of the problem lay on the surface: either there was nothing to burn in the cylinder, or there was nothing to ignite the working mixture with. However, this is only at first glance. In fact, it can be very difficult to understand why the motor suddenly began to triple when starting or accelerating, and the search for the "root of evil" can take more than one day, especially in garage conditions.

It is important to pay attention to under what conditions the motor does not pull, when it starts to triple more: on cold or after warming up, when driving under load or at idle, at low or high, during acceleration or with uniform movement. Any little thing that often seems irrelevant can become a clue.

So why is the engine troit? The main reasons causing this malfunction are as follows:

  • incorrect ignition timing;
  • suction of atmospheric air into;
  • faulty spark plugs (the most common cause);
  • punctured high-voltage wires;
  • faulty capacitor;
  • air leaks in the intake manifold;
  • burnout of valves or pistons;
  • Broken, worn out, or deformed piston rings
  • violation of valve timing;
  • badly worn valve rockers;
  • burnout or breakdown of the cylinder head gasket;
  • Worn valve stem seals (hardened, punctured or completely destroyed);
  • improperly adjusted carburetor;
  • a worn out breaker-distributor shaft or pivot plate bearing;
  • clogged air filter;
  • loss of tightness due to deformation or wear of the membrane of the vacuum ignition timing controller;
  • the use of spark plugs that are not suitable in their parameters for this motor.

Finding an inoperative cylinder

This task is not difficult. The only thing that needs to be done is to disconnect the tips of the high-voltage wires from the spark plugs one by one while the engine is running. If the working cylinder is disconnected in this way, the sound of the motor will change, if after disconnecting the tip the sound remains the same, then an inoperative cylinder has been found.

Care must be taken when disconnecting high-voltage wires as the risk of electric shock is very high. This is not fatal, of course, but very unpleasant. First, you need to place a dielectric material under your feet, such as a dry board or rubber mat. Secondly, you need to disconnect by holding on to the wire itself, and not to the cap. Thirdly, you must not touch the car body during the procedure.

A detailed analysis of the reasons for the triplet engine

Although the triple motor shows the same symptoms every time, it is much easier to solve the problem if you know the features of the causes of this phenomenon. The main reasons for the failure of one or more engine cylinders were listed above. Because of them, the motor does not pull at high speeds, strongly troit at low, when starting, or accelerating, after warming up or cold. Let's consider them in more detail.

Incorrect ignition timing

If the motor troit for this reason, then a kind of clapping is heard, in which the engine bounces. In order to accurately establish this malfunction, you need to listen to the motor at low speeds, since at high speeds its work is leveled, and the missing clock becomes imperceptible. As a rule, the above signs indicate excessively early ignition. This is confirmed by the jerks that the engine makes when cranking it with the starter.

Leakage of atmospheric air in the vacuum brake booster

If the car has a vacuum brake booster, air leakage occurs when the diaphragm, hose or valve is damaged. Excess air appears in the system, which mixes with the working mixture, making it lean. As a result, the mixture in the cylinder may not always ignite. The plug, in turn, gets wet and cannot form a normal spark that can ignite the air-fuel mixture. This malfunction is rather difficult to identify, since there is no special equipment capable of determining exactly where the tightness of the vacuum amplifier system is broken.

Defective spark plug

A concomitant symptom supporting the hypothesis that the spark plug is the cause is the fact that a cold engine troit more strongly. After warming up, the problem often disappears or becomes less pronounced.

After the problem cylinder is found, it is necessary to unscrew the spark plug and inspect it. The spark plug is an indicator of the health of the powertrain. Her condition can say a lot, and timely troubleshooting measures will help prevent serious consequences for the motor.

First of all, you should pay attention to the color of the center electrode insulator. Determining a normally working candle is not difficult. Normal insulator is light or slightly brownish. If the color of the insulator is different from normal, then you need to find out why. Traces of oil or carbon deposits on the insulator indicate that an over-enriched mixture enters the cylinder, which fills the candle, or it is "thrown" with oil. As a result, normal sparking is disrupted.

The reasons for this may be different:

  1. the engine runs a lot at idle when warming up;
  2. the check valve of the power supply system is faulty;
  3. low compression in the cylinder;
  4. violated valve timing;
  5. irregularities in the operation of injectors;
  6. failure of the oxygen sensor.

After the insulator, the body of the candle should be inspected. It should be intact, without chips or cracks. Pay particular attention to the presence or absence of vertical black bars and black dots. If they are, the candle breaks through, and it must be replaced.

Finally, the quality of sparking is checked. Moreover, it is not enough to simply close the side electrode to ground, so you can only check the performance of the plug. To understand how well a spark plug works, you need to keep it at a distance of one and a half to two centimeters from the mass and turn on the starter. If a large bright blue spark is formed between the electrodes, the candle is working normally. A weak spark or its complete absence indicates that the ignition coil or switch is faulty, or the high-voltage wires have increased resistance.

You can also find videos on the internet with detailed instructions on how to check spark plugs.

Broken high voltage wires or capacitor

In the event of a breakdown of high-voltage wires, the engine, as in the previous case, usually trips to a cold one. After warming up, the problem either disappears completely, or becomes less pronounced. A strong tripping of the motor to hot indicates, as a rule, other problems.

The easiest way to determine the breakdown of high-voltage wires or a capacitor is to observe them in complete darkness with the motor running. Sparks indicate breakdown. You can replace the capacitor and wires, in whole or in part. Also, the serviceability of high-voltage wires can be checked by measuring their resistance with a multimeter. For a normal wire, it does not exceed 20 kOhm. It should also be remembered that it depends on the length of the wire, so all wires will be different.

When visually inspecting the wires, you need to pay special attention to their ends. They should be monochromatic, without light gray bloom on the inside and without gray-brown dots on the outside.

Intake manifold air leaks

This reason speaks of other problems of the power unit and is their consequence. Fistula occurs either after repair due to improper assembly or due to wear on the gasket. The problem tends to get worse under load.

Burnout valves or pistons

It is possible to identify this problem only by measuring the compression with subsequent disassembly of the engine. Due to the great complexity of the work, checking the engine for burnout is carried out last, when everything else has already been checked. The motor in this case always troit: cold, hot, under load and at idle.

Broken, worn or deformed piston rings

This malfunction occurs infrequently. To check it is necessary in the cylinder. After measuring, you need to pour a little engine oil into the cylinder and make a new measurement. If the compression has increased, then the matter is in the rings. This malfunction can lead to overheating of the engine, therefore it must be corrected as soon as possible.

Improperly adjusted valves or badly worn rockers

Due to incorrect adjustment, the valves stop opening and closing in a timely manner and completely. As a result, not the entire volume of the working mixture enters the cylinders, and not all exhaust gases are discharged. As a result, the motor starts to triple.

In addition, carbon build-up in the cylinder increases. The condition of the rockers also affects the degree of valve opening. If they are badly worn, the valves also stop opening or closing completely.

In the presence of this malfunction, the engine troit more strongly during warming up. After warming up, due to the thermal expansion of the parts, the gaps decrease, and the motor starts to run smoother when hot.

Defective distributor

It also happens that the distributor becomes the cause of the triple engine, or rather, its worn shaft, bushings or bearings of the pivot plate, all this leads to the appearance of a gap between the contacts and skipping cycles. Often, when heated, the motor troit less or ceases to troit at all. This is explained, as in the previous case, by a decrease in the gaps.

Clogged air filter

Due to heavy contamination, the filter passes air worse, which leads to a violation of mixture formation (the mixture is re-enriched). As a rule, the operation of the motor returns to normal immediately after replacing the air filter. The stronger the engine starts to run cold and after warming up under load, when it needs more air.

What to do first if the motor is damaged

Summarizing all of the above, you can draw up a small instruction on what to do when symptoms of a triple engine appear.

First of all, it should be noted when it starts to triple: at startup, while it is cold or after warming up, at low or high speeds, during acceleration or without load. It is also important to take into account in which cases the malfunction is more pronounced and only after that start looking for the cause.

If the engine troit more strongly when starting or on a cold one, you need to start the search by checking the candles and high-voltage wires. If the problem becomes more pronounced after warming up or under load, it is better to check the condition of the air filter first.

It is better to check the rest of the possible reasons as the work gets more complicated.

It is well known that the engine begins to triple if one of its cylinders stops working. But a non-working cylinder is just a consequence of a problem, but why did it stop working? If the engine is carbureted, then the cylinder does not work in two cases: either the fuel mixture does not enter it, or there is no spark. Everything is clear here.

However, the operation of injection and diesel engines is electronically controlled, and, in this case, the cause of the problem does not always lie in the cylinder itself - it can be both in the cylinder itself and in the electronic sensors. In the event of a malfunction of any sensor, the cylinder may also stop working, and then the engine troit - to a cold or already heated state. If the car is new, and triplet has appeared, then it is better to immediately go to the service station.

Signs of an inoperative cylinder (engine triplet)

Almost each of the following symptoms, if considered in isolation, may indicate other engine or powertrain malfunctions. Therefore, in order to diagnose precisely the triplet of the engine, all these signs must be taken into account in the complex. (see the video "Engine troit on cold" below).

1. Idle turns are floating, vibration is felt in the engine - this is just a sign of an inoperative cylinder. Body vibration may be observed.

2. When checking the spark plugs, it can be seen that a spark plug has darkened and soot has accumulated on it.

3. The exhaust sound has changed.

4. Both at low and high revs - the engine has weak acceleration dynamics.

5. Increased fuel consumption.

6. The engine speed is floating, the tachometer needle twitches.

7. Jerks with increasing speed.

Why is the engine tripping dangerous?

Some drivers, unknowingly, at first are not particularly worried about the changed sound from the exhaust pipe and the vibration that has appeared in the engine, but in vain, because the fuel consumption when the engine troit (it does not matter if the engine is cold or already hot) increases very much - by 50- one hundred%. Agree, the blow to the pocket is palpable.

In addition, the fuel mixture that has not burned out in the faulty cylinder has a detrimental effect on the catalyst, and also penetrates the crankcase and mixes with the engine oil, deteriorating its quality.

The increased load falls on the crankshaft, cylinders and pistons of the engine, therefore, the service life of these elements is reduced. Thus, it is very important to identify and eliminate the cause of the engine triplet in a timely manner, so as not to bring the matter to expensive engine repairs.

Why is the engine troit?

1. Defective spark plugs (check for faulty spark plugs).

2. Air leaks: a) in the intake manifold, b) in the vacuum brake booster.

3. The valve is burnt out, the rockers of the valves are worn out.

5. There is a malfunction in the ignition system (how to check the injector ignition module, how to check the carburetor ignition system).

6. The membrane of the vacuum ignition timing regulator is deformed.

7. Incorrect operation of the phases in the timing, due to stray valve clearances (how to adjust the valve).

8. Air filter clogged (change air filter).

10. Failed pivot plate bearing.

11. The shaft of the distributor of ignition is faulty.

12. The piston is burnt out.

13. The carburetor is incorrectly adjusted (how to adjust the VAZ carburetor).

How to identify an inoperative cylinder?

The serviceability of each of the cylinders is determined by the method of disconnecting the tips of the VV-wires from the spark plugs. There is no need to dismantle additional equipment to gain access to high-voltage wires - they are under the hood, in plain sight.

Safety precautions when working with high-voltage wires... Before the procedure, you need to put a rubber mat under your feet. You need to grab the wire itself with your hand, not its cap. Do not touch the body with your free hand and do not lean against the body.

So, you need to disconnect the tip of the wire from the spark plug and listen carefully to the sound of the engine running. If the sound has changed, then this cylinder is working, and, on the contrary, if it has not changed, then the engine is troit precisely because of this inoperative cylinder.

What if the cylinder is not working?

The simplest thing is to replace the spark plugs and wires; any driver can handle this on his own. Useful links to troubleshoot some of the issues are provided in the article above. More serious tasks, such as checking the fuel system, cleaning the engine and replacing individual parts of it, must be performed by specialists.

Video: Engine troit on cold

Engine troit (engine triplet) is a definition by which one should understand a malfunction when one or more cylinders do not work partially or completely. In other words, the combustion process of the fuel-air mixture in individual cylinders is disrupted, which causes unstable engine operation at idle, under load and in transient modes.

The structure of the engine manifests itself in the form of increased vibrations of the power unit, the engine noticeably loses power. Ignition misfires can occur, which are accompanied by strong pops in the exhaust system. The motor can run both occasionally and constantly, only at idle or under load, on cold, on hot, etc. Next, we intend to answer the question of what is engine triplet, and also consider the main reasons why the motor begins to triple.

Why does the motor start to triple

To begin with, engine tripping is a violation of the combustion of the mixture in the cylinders, which is accompanied by a clear increase in vibration. Please note that the appearance of vibrations of the internal combustion engine is not necessarily a triple, since there are a number of other reasons why the engine vibrates strongly.

In the list of the main faults, as a result of which the engine is troit, the following are noted:

  • supply of insufficient or excess amount of fuel to the cylinder;
  • insufficient or excess air supply;
  • malfunctions of the ignition system;
  • engine wear or breakdown, which is accompanied by a decrease in compression;

In other words, the engine begins to triple as a result of an inappropriate composition of the fuel-air mixture, untimely ignition of the mixture or the inability to ignite the charge, as well as violations of the conditions for normal combustion of the mixture as a result of mechanical wear or breakdowns of the engine itself.

Based on these data, it is possible to narrow down the search and the number of systems for diagnostics. The check should start with the injector and, then the air supply is checked and. In some cases, engine tripping can also be the result of a failure of one of the sensors.

The engine is troit: the ignition of the fuel-air mixture is broken

The most common cause that causes the engine to triple is late or early ignition, as well as a weak spark from the spark plug. At the initial stage, you should unscrew the spark plugs for a detailed inspection. If damage to the insulator or other defects is noticeable, then the spark plug should be replaced.

In the case of a damaged insulator, the place of damage is clearly visible, since this area turns black. You should also pay attention to the condition of the center electrode and evaluate the clearance of the side electrode.

In this case, it is necessary to measure the compression in the engine, after which the unit is disassembled for detailed diagnostics and repair. In conclusion, I would like to add that the operation of a motor with an inoperative cylinder is prohibited, since driving with such a malfunction leads to a number of additional problems, which greatly complicates and makes subsequent repairs more expensive.

If the engine is unstable, then this phenomenon is called "missing" abroad. For our ear, the word is overseas and not understandable for everyone. Experienced minders know what it is. Missing - misfiring of a combustible mixture in one of the cylinders. More often, drivers in this case say that the engine is troit. In this article, we will find out what are the causes of the occurrence and what ways of eliminating the defect are possible.

Troit engine: main reasons

The engine trotting is accompanied by "coiling". The sound is quite distinguishable and recognizable. It is he who signals the inoperative cylinder. The engine temperature rises rapidly. ... The power unit is subject to rapid wear. Therefore, it is important to determine why the engine is troit and eliminate the malfunction as soon as possible.

Spark plug

Checking high-voltage wires is mandatory when diagnosing an engine when it is troit. There should be no traces of breakdown on them. The spark plug tips must be clean and free of carbon deposits.

After visually inspecting the spark plugs, check the high voltage wires. There should be no traces of breakdown on them: black dots and stripes. Due to the breakdown, the current does not reach the candles. This defect is the next reason for the triple formation of an internal combustion engine.

Self-checking the wires will not cause difficulties. They are tested with an ordinary multimeter. It is necessary to measure the resistance of each wire.

VV-wire check video

Check the wires with a multimeter. Measure the resistance of each wire. It differs on different car brands, but does not exceed 20 kOhm. Serviceable wires have the same resistance. If one of them shows much less or more, then it is faulty and because of it the power unit is troit.

Ignition module

The ignition module is often the third reason for triplet powertrain. You can check it, but with special equipment and with experience. Do not test the module yourself.

Ignition module check video

The engine triples only on cold

There are times when the engine runs cold. If you are convinced that the plugs and wires are in order, then check the ignition module. Without skills and sufficient experience, such diagnostics should not be carried out with your own hands.

You can get an electric shock or burn the module, engine control unit.

If you suspect that the engine triplet occurs due to a malfunction of the ignition module, then contact the help of specialists.

Faulty injector or nozzles

The injection engine troit in such cases:

  1. The injector is faulty, but this is very rare.
  2. Poor gasoline or fuel system cleaner used incorrectly.
  3. Clogged nozzles.
  4. The injector power supply circuit is open or shorted.

An engine diagnostics and a competent minder will help to eliminate such malfunctions. For self-checking the injector and injectors you need experience and special equipment.

Low compression

Troit the engine due to insufficient compression in the engine cylinders. Reduction occurs: when the rings are on the pistons, the valves are burnt out. Some car models allow valve adjustment. Incorrectly set clearances are the cause of the triple structure of the injection engine.

Finally

If you have a triple engine, one or more cylinders do not work, do not rush to go to computer diagnostics. Checking with a scanner will fix a misfire, but will not indicate the cause of the occurrence. The cylinder does not work - this is so obvious. Check the spark plugs and wires before going to the service center. They are most often to blame for the engine troit.

"Engine trips" are interruptions in the operation of one or more cylinders of an internal combustion engine. This is accompanied by a decrease in power, vibration at idle, an increase in fuel consumption, which subsequently leads to engine wear. These malfunctions individually can be indicators of other failures, therefore, to identify triplets, it is necessary to consider them together.

To diagnose which cylinder in your engine has failed, you must first disconnect the high-voltage wires from the spark plugs one at a time. This work must be done with the engine running at idle speed, very carefully. In order not to get an electric shock, you must try not to touch the car body. It is advisable to stand on a rubber or wooden surface. Observe engine operation while disconnecting spark plugs. When a serviceable cylinder is disconnected, the engine will start to triple more, while disconnecting a faulty cylinder will not be followed by any changes. When you have identified a non-working cylinder, you need to find out the cause of its malfunction.

Troit engine, reasons

Let's consider the main reasons why the engine can triple.

Spark plug failure

Spark plug failure is considered the most common cause of engine tripping. When exposed to heat and vibration, the carbon in the wire can weaken and impair the conductivity between the coil and spark plugs. This partially or completely suppresses the spark. Spark plugs can also become dirty due to the formation of a rich fuel mixture (the predominance of fuel in the air-fuel mixture) or the ingress of oil into the cylinders. In order to check if spark plugs are the reason why the engine triplets in your car, you need to unscrew the spark plug from the faulty cylinder. A wet candle that smells of gasoline indicates a malfunction of the candle itself or an excess of fuel in the combustible-air mixture. A dry candle indicates that the combustible-air mixture is too lean. To correct this problem, the spark plugs must be replaced.

Damage to high voltage wires

If you have replaced the spark plug and the engine is still troit, you should pay attention to the high voltage wires. Their malfunction is usually difficult to diagnose because the outside of the wires may look normal. Inside the wires are conductive graphite rods that can be damaged. The wires themselves must be free of cracks, burns from hot engine parts and other external damage. Their ends should not be oxidized. The ingress of moisture on the wire impairs its conductivity, which can also provoke engine triplets. To be sure that your high-voltage wires are intact and in good condition, you can start your car in a dark garage or at night and see if sparks fly off the wires.

Dirty filters

Contamination of the fuel filters contributes to the tripping of the engine due to a lack of fuel in the cylinders. They can also interfere with spark plugs. Fortunately, these filters are easy to replace. Dirty air filters can also cause tripping. Quite often, air filters are replaced along with the fuel and oil filters as part of a service package. Serviceable filters will keep your car engine running smoothly. Even if there is no problem, it is recommended to replace the filters according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Malfunctioning fuel injectors and condensation water in the gas tank

Clogged fuel injectors prevent the cylinders from receiving sufficient fuel. To solve this problem, you just need to fill the injector cleaner into the fuel tank. If the engine is still trotting, the injectors need to be cleaned or replaced. The water that is part of the fuel condenses into the gas tank and this can also cause the engine to triple. In this case, it is necessary to add liquid to the fuel to remove water. The main signs of clogged fuel injectors are: difficulty starting the engine, engine idle and transient malfunctions, loss of engine power and deterioration of acceleration dynamics, increased fuel consumption, increased exhaust toxicity, misfire, exhaust pops, catalytic converter failure. In winter, a cold engine with clogged injectors rarely starts.

In order to find the real causes of triple formation, you need to conduct a detailed analysis of the possible causes. This is the only way to quickly and efficiently eliminate the breakdown. If you cannot do it yourself or you are not sure that the engine is actually troit, it would be more expedient to contact a technical inspection station or a car service.

Almost every resident of the country has his own car. It not only allows you to enjoy driving, but also makes everyday life easier. But soon all sorts of problems and breakdowns may arise that cannot be avoided. If you have a troit engine, then this is the worst thing. Many newbies are very wary of this negative consequence. Let's see what the powertrain triplets mean.

Breakdown description

The concept itself arose several decades ago. It was mainly applied to four-cylinder engines when one of the cylinders fails. During such a misfortune, one could hear a characteristic sound and feel a slight vibration of the details.

To put it very simply, when a cylinder breaks down, the process of ignition of the fuel-air mixture ceases to occur in it. All unburned mixture will accumulate on the walls and in the crankcase of the engine, which will lead to rapid wear of parts and deterioration of the properties of engine oil.

In addition, the compression itself decreases, which is very bad. It is worth noting that not only gasoline, but also diesel engines are prone to tripleting.

If the problem is not detected in time, then you will have to make major repairs or buy a new power unit. Both will require a huge amount of money and time.

The main signs of breakdown

Knowing the main symptoms of the problem makes it much easier to understand why the engine is troit.

There are several of them:

  1. There is a malfunction in the operation of the power unit, the idle speed rises, and you can also feel vibration throughout the vehicle interior. This kind of manifestation clearly indicates the failure of one of the cylinders. The main problem is that such symptoms appear rather late, when one of the "culprits" has already failed;
  2. The electrode is covered with a lot of carbon and turned black. In this case, inexperienced drivers simply change the candle and that's it. They don't even think about the possible causes of the problem. If your electrode turns black, then this indicates a very serious malfunction of the power unit. Up to the fact that the engine is troit;
  3. The exhaust sound has changed a lot. As a result, the vehicle may shake slightly. An experienced driver will immediately understand what is happening;
  4. Fuel consumption increases several times. This phenomenon can arise from numerous problems. In this case, you should contact a car service and make a full diagnosis;
  5. Vehicle dynamics deteriorate slightly. This is usually noticeable during acceleration and at low revs. This symptom indicates not only that the engine is troit, but also about other malfunctions. In this case, you need to go through a full diagnosis;
  6. The engine speed starts to float, which is very noticeable on the tachometer. In some cases, fluctuations can vary between 900 and 1500 rpm. These are very serious values;
  7. During the movement, all kinds of jerks occur. This is noticeable when picking up speed and in a work gear.

Breakdown reasons

So we come to the most interesting part. Now we will find out why the engine is troit and what needs to be done. If you are faced with such a problem, then you cannot hesitate and do nothing. This attitude will only aggravate the overall condition of the engine.

The consequences are manifested not only in unpleasant sensations from the trip, but also in excessive wear of parts. The second problem is more significant and daunting. After all, if an important unit fails, then that's it, you will have to make major repairs and change the engine.

Experts identify several main reasons:

  1. The ignition is incorrectly set;
  2. Problems in the vacuum booster;
  3. Spark plug problems;
  4. Problems in the wires;
  5. Problems in the piston rings;
  6. The distributor is faulty;
  7. Incorrect valve adjustment and burnout;
  8. Air filter problems.

Elimination of breakdowns

  • SPARK PLUG

The first step is to look at the candles. As a rule, it is they who become the main cause of the power unit malfunction. Unscrew the plug and check for carbon deposits and soot.

Defects can cause leakage current on the insulator. It is also necessary to check the insulator itself. There should be no light stripes or other marks on it. Last but not least, you can look at the gap between the electrodes.

Replacing candles is not very difficult. To do this, you need to do the following operations:

  1. Clean the engine compartment from debris and other unnecessary things;
  2. Remove engine parts to gain good access to spark plug. If you cannot remove the elements, then you can use a simple extension cord and adapter. Experts do not recommend removing the spark plugs after the engine has warmed up. That is, you need to leave the car alone and let it cool down to room temperature;
  3. Twisting should be done one by one, gradually disconnecting the wires. For your own safety, remove the battery from the vehicle. The fact is that even at idle speed of the engine, a small charge of electricity can be supplied. This must always be remembered when it comes to car repairs. Experts point out that you need to use your strength very carefully. After all, if the candle does not feed, then the threads can be ripped off. This fact can be attributed to one of the reasons for investing additional funds;
  4. All openings should be covered with a rag so that debris and other objects do not enter;
  5. You need to screw in the candles very carefully, at the initial stage with the help of your hands. This approach will allow you not to knock off the threads and apply the correct force. After screwing in, you can connect high-voltage wires;
  6. and check its performance.

If, after replacing the spark plug, the engine still runs unstable, then move on to other reasons.

  • WIRING SYSTEM

This is followed by high-voltage wires, which play an important role. They must be inspected for breakdown and other defects.

If black dots or streaks are found, this indicates a spark breakdown. Simply put, the power of the spark does not reach the electrode of the spark plug, as a result of which the engine trips to the cold one.

To determine the condition of the wires, the following operations should be done:

  1. Remove the tip that attaches to the spark plug;
  2. Check the structure of the high voltage wire. It consists of a central core and a tip that connects to the spark plug. It is worth noting that the look of the handpiece may differ slightly from the make and model of the vehicle. Its main purpose is to transmit current to the candle;
  3. The core must not extend from the tip. As a result of aging, the surface can oxidize and poorly conduct current. As a result, the resistance of the wire increases and the engine triplets occur. Oxidation can be checked very easily. To do this, take the probe of the multimeter and touch the central core. If the device showed nothing, then the surface is oxidized;
  4. Also, the vein can burn out along its entire length. To identify the damaged area, you need to use a special multimeter tip, which is like a thin needle. It is necessary to pierce the wire every 5-10 millimeters until the damaged area is revealed. When a high-quality area is found, the device will show the required resistance indicator. As soon as a burnt-out area is found, you need to take a knife and cut off part of the wire. This method allows you to restore the stable operation of the power unit. If the wire is not very long, then you just need to change it.
  • IGNITION MODULE

The ignition module deserves special attention. It should be checked if the candles and wires are in good order.

Experts recommend taking turns removing the wires on a running engine and listening carefully. As a result, you can hear the unpleasant sound of breaking the air gap between the plug itself and the tip. If the sound is accompanied from all cylinders, then the module will have to be changed.

It should be noted that this verification method is very dangerous. If you have no experience, then you should give it up. You will either get electrocuted or simply kill the entire engine block. But this method of verification is the most accurate, it allows you to very quickly determine why the engine is troit.

  • FUEL MIXTURE

Also, the reason may be a poor-quality fuel mixture. Candles are flooded and they refuse to work. Experts say this is not a very difficult problem. To fix it, it is enough to change the fuel.

  • LABELS FOR GAS DISTRIBUTION DEVICE

A rather simple reason is the failure of the tags of the gas distribution mechanism. In this case, the power unit does not work correctly and begins to triple. In this case, you need to contact a car service.

  • CRANKSHAFT SENSOR

A more complex problem is a malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor. In this case, the power unit behaves unstable.

Experts note that such a reason can cause tripping even at 2000 rpm and above. In addition to the spark, the fuel injection is also disrupted. As a result, the wear of the parts increases. In this case, you also need to contact a car service.

  • ADJUSTMENT OF VALVES

This reason greatly affects the overall performance of the engine. The fact is that the opening and closing of the valves depends on the correct adjustment. If you do not pay attention to them, then the engine will triple. Re-adjusting the valve train can be used to solve the problem.

  • TIGHTNESS OF THE COLLECTOR

This reason can lead to the occurrence of unstable operation of the power unit, that is, the tripping of its motor begins. This happens due to improper assembly and the use of poor quality gaskets. To fix this problem, you need to replace the gaskets and check the build quality.

  • NOZZLES

If the injector is damaged, the engine trips to a cold one. If the candles are in good order and the spark is supplied without problems, then the nozzles themselves should be checked. To do this, you need to take them off the connector one by one and look at the defects. Injector problems can occur due to poor quality fuel and clogging. To eliminate the causes, you should contact a car service. There they will do not only the diagnosis itself, but also clean the nozzles of dirt and other unpleasant things.

  • COMPRESSION

An important reason is the compression of the power unit. Many drivers may have a question, what is it?

The performance of the cylinders depends on the amount of compression. If its indicator is very low, then the engine will start to triple and work unstable.

This is mainly caused by a sticking o-ring or a burnt valve. It is worth noting that if the valves on your car can be adjusted, then the reason will be in the wrong clearances.

Many drivers are faced with such a problem as lighting up a light bulb "than engin". If it lights up, then the problem is in the power unit. In this case, the engine runs cold. To avoid problems, the on-board computer warns you about the situation. To fix the problem, you need to go to a workshop or buy a special paste. With it, you can increase the compression of the engine.

  • VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER

If you have a vacuum booster, then it can cause unstable engine operation. The thing is that tightness is lost in the hose and diaphragm. Air forms inside the system, which depletes the fuel mixture. To correct the cause, check the brake system, if necessary replace the hoses and diaphragm.

  • AIR FILTER

If the engine troit on a cold one, then the air filter is clogged. In this case, you just need to replace it with a new one and keep driving.

If the engine "troit" and one of the cylinders does not work, then we will hear a clearly distinguishable "boo-boo-boo" - the engine does not sound as usual. Let's figure out the main reasons and how to fix the situation with our own hands?

What consequences?

When the motor “troit” and shakes, it starts to wear out quickly. Because of this, the compression decreases, conditions are created for creating scoring on the cylinders and pistons. The motor starts to work in a different temperature mode, starts to overheat. Sometimes it turns out that everything has been checked, but the engine still "troit".

Therefore, we will try to disassemble the procedure for diagnosing in normal conditions, when there are no special devices to look inside and pinpoint the cause, point by point.

Are the spark plugs to blame?

To begin with, we will unscrew the candle from the cylinder and examine it carefully. What will we see? If the engine is running properly, the side electrode and insulator will be light and slightly brown in color. Such a candle should work. If we see black carbon deposits, this is the reason why the engine may run unevenly. Fuel enrichment or oil filling in progress.
Soot reasons:
  • long idle and warm-up operation;
  • reduced compression in the motor;
  • violation of valve timing;
  • improper operation of the injector (nozzles are clogged with dirt);
  • improper operation of the oxygen sensor.
Carbon deposits may cause the spark plug to fail completely or irregularly because it interferes with normal sparking. Let's take a look at the case. It should be white and there should be no vertical black stripes or dots on it. The presence of this indicates that the candle is breaking through and will not work normally.

If the visual inspection is satisfied, then check the spark when cranking with the starter. We insert the candle into the tip of the high-voltage wire, put it on the engine ground and turn the engine with the starter, see if the spark jumps between the electrodes of the candle or not. If a good spark of a deep blue color jumps between the candle and the mass, everything is fine.

If the spark does not skip or skips, but is barely noticeable, this is the main reason why the engine began to triple. Verdict - replacement of candles with new ones.

Inspection of high voltage wires

If everything is in order with the candles, then we will carefully consider each high-voltage wire separately. Some cars have individual ignition coils, which means we skip this point. First, inspect the tip of the wire inserted into the candle. It should be of a solid color and free from plaque on the inner surface and dots on the outside.

If there are these reasons, then the high-voltage wire worked in an extreme mode (faulty car plug, increased gap), which was a malfunction. The result is the replacement of wires with new ones. If you do not pay attention to the color change inside the tip of the high-voltage wire in time, then the wire will break through.

To determine the state of the "high voltage" we measure the resistance using a digital multimeter. Values vary from motor to motor, but should not exceed 20 kΩ. If one of the wires showed a resistance value much less than all the others, then it is faulty and the reason for the interruptions in operation lies in it.

It happens that high-voltage wires are confused. This happens because there are numbers on the ignition coils that indicate the cylinder number on which it works. But not everyone knows this or they are poorly readable due to dirt. On cars, cylinder numbers are written on the ignition distributor, you just need to clean the cover from dirt and it will immediately become visible.

Malfunction of injectors and injector

The motor can be tripled due to the injector or malfunction of the injectors in the following cases:
  • Malfunctions of the injector itself (rare);
  • Due to the use of low-quality fuel, the use of "fuel system cleaners";
  • The supply or control circuits to the injector are open or short.

Other reasons

One of the reasons why the engine "troit" is a poor connection of the "mass" with the car body. There was a case when the mount of the mass moved away from the vibrations and the motor worked intermittently, because there was no reliable contact. After pulling the connections, the engine started up normally. There may be a floating bug when the mass lashing comes off on bad roads. It turns out that they started the car, and a lot left on the road. When all the methods have been tried - and it does not hurt to check it.

Video - what is worth checking out?

If one of the sensors does not work, an error will appear, which can be considered an auto scanner. If it is not there, then the reason is in the mechanical part. If you cannot find a malfunction, you should use computer diagnostics. As a rule, many cases of inadequate motor operation can only be detected by a special device. Otherwise, you will throw away "extra" money to replace serviceable parts.
