The warm season for a significant part of motorists means the need to change their cars to summer tires. Experts of Expertology, having studied the extremely large summer tire market, have formed a rating of models that deserve attention to the greatest extent according to one criterion or another. And to begin with, we will describe these very criteria, as well as what should be guided by when choosing.

How to choose summer tires

Automobile tires have a whole set of technical and operational characteristics, which together determine the most rational choice, taking into account also the "external" features, such as driving style, the nature of the road surface, etc. Of all these characteristics, in most cases, the following are decisive. :

  1. standard size;
  2. tread pattern;
  3. speed index (directly correlates with road grip);
  4. load index (bearing capacity);
  5. frame construction.

Standard size

This parameter is pretty obvious in terms of choosing the right option. It is determined by the ratio of such indicators as width, height and landing diameter. The latter is quite rigidly tied to the size of the disk, and with the first two, variations are possible when choosing.

With increasing tire width, the contact patch automatically increases and, as a result, grip is improved. It would seem that this is only good, but this automatically implies heavier tires, lower dynamics of the car, increased fuel consumption, deterioration of handling on a bad road. Plus, an increase in the size of the contact patch increases the likelihood of a dangerous aquaplaning effect. Tire widths are usually measured in millimeters.

The general term "height" refers to the vertical dimension of the profile, which is measured in% of the tire width. Conventional division into low-profile (equal to 55 percent or less), high-profile (from 60 to 75 percent inclusive) and full-profile (from 80 percent) is generally accepted. Full-profile vehicles are used mostly to equip off-road vehicles that have to overcome all the difficulties of country roads. The rest are mainly used in passenger cars.

With the expediency of choosing one or another profile, the situation is as follows. There is a direct relationship - with a decrease in the profile, handling improves, but at the same time, the sensitivity of tires to a faulty road increases, up to the threat of damage to disks on especially pronounced flaws in the surface. Accordingly, it makes sense to give preference to the minimum profile only with regular driving almost exclusively on tracks with a predictable even surface and without any special speed restrictions.

Tread pattern

Despite all the seeming “artistry”, this is a completely physical indicator that directly affects a lot of moments, and those, in turn, determine where, when and how it is most expedient and safe to use the selected tires. There are three main types of "rubber" pattern:

Symmetrical non-directional. This is a kind of classic, the most massive version. Very often, inexpensive tires have just such a tread, and most often it is with this equipment that cars go on sale directly from the factory. Ideal for regular routine city and highway traffic, where coverage characteristics can vary significantly. Such wheels can be swapped without problems.

Symmetrical directional. The main thing for which such a solution is appreciated is the removal of water from the contact patch "in the blink of an eye", and with everyone being equal, more reliable interaction with the road surface. This is the best option for those who like high speeds, especially on a wet track. There is an important point - tires must be installed exclusively in the direction of rotation of the wheel, otherwise the whole effect is reduced to zero, and driving on a wet road becomes dangerous.

Asymmetric. Versatile option for dry and wet roads. Here, asymmetry is expressed in different patterns on the inside and outside of the tire. One is optimal for dry roads, the other for wet ones. The versatility is also manifested in the fact that such protectors are equally good for station wagons, for high-speed coupes, and for SUVs. When installing asymmetric tires, you need to be vigilant - you cannot swap them, and the outer and inner sides of the tire are marked Outside and Inside, respectively.

Speed index

This parameter is indicated by Latin letters, each of which corresponds to the maximum speed that can be safely developed on the corresponding tires. The step of the difference in maximum speed between adjacent indexes (up to index H) is 10 km / h.

The higher the speed index, the better the grip on the road surface, due to which this speed is achieved within safe limits. Also, a high speed index automatically means a short braking distance. Such tires are predominantly significantly more expensive than tires with a low speed index. Therefore, if your car has a physical limit of 180 km / h, it makes no sense to buy tires with a higher speed index. Otherwise, it is better not to save money, since the question will already concern not only speed, but also safety.

Load index

Another important characteristic that shows the maximum possible safe load that a tire can withstand at a given speed. Quite simply, this is the weight limit per wheel of the vehicle (taking into account the weight of the driver and luggage).

In an abbreviated form, the correspondence of the indices to the actual load itself in kilograms per wheel is as follows:

From the data in the table, you can navigate when choosing a specific tire model. The logic is extremely simple - the more and more often you carry passengers and cargo, the higher the load index should be. It should also be chosen taking into account the technical characteristics of the car.

Frame construction

An important parameter according to which tires are divided into diagonal and radial. But the share of the former on the market is rapidly decreasing, and modern models are mostly radial. This circumstance is indicated by the letter R in the tire marking.

In addition, tires can be reinforced, regardless of the basic type. This will be indicated by the marking C (Cargo) or LT (Light Truck). These tires are used on minivans, compact trucks, and vans.

Top manufacturers

Now let's take a quick look at the most prominent tire manufacturers included in our rating.

  1. Dunlop Tires is the oldest tire manufacturer in the world, which still remains respected and reputable, and its products are in stable demand all over the world. The history of the company goes back to the 19th century and is closely connected with the name of no less than the inventor of pneumatic tires, John Boyd Dunlop. The quality of the products is evidenced by the fact that from the beginning of the 50s and almost until the end of the 70s of the 20th century, the company officially supplied tires for Formula-1 racing.
  2. Nokian Tires is a well-known and respected Finnish company with a history dating back to the 30s of the last century. The parent company was then called Suomen Gummitehdas Oy. At the present time, the company's engineers are developing tires for passenger cars and heavy trucks, commercial vehicles and special equipment. Serious emphasis is placed on the development of improved performance tires for extreme climates.
  3. Michelin is one of the most recognizable French brands and, of course, one of the brightest leaders in the industry. It first entered the market in the late 80s of the 19th century. For more than 40 years - from 1934 to 1976 - owned the French car manufacturer Citroën. Produces a wide range of products - from bicycle tires to aircraft tires. Owns dozens of factories in nearly twenty countries.
  4. Bridgestone Corporation - Despite the clearly British "flair" in the name, this is a 100% Japanese company of gigantic proportions. Since its inception in the early 30s of the last century, the company has grown into a multinational corporation with more than 150 factories in 27 countries. The overwhelming majority of the assortment is tires for all sorts of wheeled vehicles from cars to mining vehicles, as well as for aircraft. Among other things, the company owns nine test sites in 7 countries and four technical centers.
  5. Yokohama Rubber Co. Is another Japanese tire manufacturer. In addition to the main product, it produces high-pressure pipes and hoses, aircraft tires, seals and other related products. First entered the market in 1917. The central office is located in Tokyo, official representations function in the countries of the Arabian Peninsula and Singapore.
  6. Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. - the third "Japanese" in our rating of manufacturers. The company first entered the market in the early 40s of the last century. Activities are carried out in two main areas: first - the actual car tires; the second - materials for thermal and waterproofing during construction and repair work. But the production of tires is still the main direction, which generates more than 70% of the income. Goods are shipped to more than a hundred countries around the world.
  7. Kumho Tire is a tire manufacturer founded in South Korea in the 1960s (under the name Samyang Tire) and still based there. In recent years, it has been confidently among the twenty largest suppliers of world-class tires. It is part of the Kumho Asiana Group conglomerate along with the 2nd largest national air carrier Asiana Airlines.
  8. Hankook Tire is another Korean company that has chosen to specialize in the development and production of solid tires for various types of ground wheeled vehicles. Best inexpensive summer tires

Medium summer passenger car tires with asymmetric non-directional tread pattern. The size can be selected based on the following parameters: landing diameter - from 13 to 18 inches, profile width - from 155 to 225 mm, height - from 40 to 70%. Speed indices - H, R, T, V, W. Load indices - from 75 to 102 (corresponds to the maximum load on one tire about 387 to 850 kg).

According to the results of a number of independent tests from expert communities and specialized publications, Nokian Tires Nordman SX tires showed very good results in all important parameters, only slightly inferior to premium models.

Summer tires provide high-quality grip on all types of surfaces and in different conditions. Predictable handling on wet pavement, including extreme maneuvering. As for dry asphalt, here experts have some questions about handling, ride and directional stability. Testers were divided on the speed of the shifting on wet asphalt.

Dignity

  • quiet enough;
  • good balancing;
  • high adaptation to driving on wet asphalt.

disadvantages

  • there are claims to wear resistance.

Now let's look at asymmetric summer tires from Dunlop, focused on equipping middle-class cars. They were first presented to the public as a bright novelty in the summer of 2016. They replace the LM703 of the same series, significantly improving the performance of the previous generation.

The tires of this model are available in the following dimensions: diameter - from 13 to 18 inches, profile width from 175 to 245 mm, profile height - from 40 to 65%. Speed indexes - H, V, W, Y. Load indexes - from 74 to 102 (maximum per tire - from 387 to 850 kg).

The results of numerous independent tests indicate the stable easy handling of the car on tires of this brand, excellent grip on the road surface of any moisture, special resistance to the occurrence of the aquaplaning effect (due to the lightning-fast displacement of moisture from the contact patch due to the well-defined width of the drainage channels around the circumference) and overall satisfactory ride comfort.

Also, this model is characterized by increased stability and "obedience" on dry asphalt, achieved due to the stiffness of the shoulder areas. The composition of the rubber compound includes silica of high dispersion, which improves adhesion to wet asphalt and increases the rationality of fuel consumption.

Asymmetric ultra-high performance summer tires (UHP class) for passenger cars with a sporty accent. This is one of the best models in this category of our rating. They are characterized by exceptional handling and the highest traction properties, combined with exceptional wear resistance, which means an increased service life.

These tires are produced in the following dimensions: 16-22 "in diameter, profile - 205-345 mm in width and 25-55% in height. Speed indices - V, W, Y. Load indices - from 86 to 110 (maximum load per tire - from 530 to 1060 kg).

By incorporating nylon tires and aramid fibers into the rubber compound, the manufacturer was able to achieve exceptional precision in the response of the car to minimum steering turns. This also provides outstanding exchange rate stability.

The addition of the aforementioned aramid fiber, with its airy lightness and exceptional strength (five times stronger than steel), gives the tire of this model increased adaptability to different conditions and stability even under increased, prolonged, continuous loads.

In the rubber compound of tires, functional elastomers are optimally combined with fine fractions of silica with hydrophobic properties. This composition, in combination with the shape of the tread grooves (width and depth), guarantees flawless grip and instant water drainage from the contact patch.

Dignity

  • ultra-high performance;
  • acceptable rolling resistance;
  • low noise;
  • increased steering precision;
  • durability;

disadvantages

  • sidewall too soft.

Continuing our rating are Japanese asymmetric summer tires for passenger cars Bridgestone with a wide range of assumptions regarding preferred driving style. The model was first presented to the public in 2012, replacing and improving the already very worthy ER300 series with outstanding driving characteristics.

This model is produced in the following dimensions: diameter - from 14 to 19 inches; profile from 185 to 265 mm wide, 40 to 80% high. Speed indices - H, Q, S, T, V, W, Y. Load indices - from 80 to 112 (the upper limit for one tire is from 450 to 1120 kg).

Here, Japanese engineers applied the innovative patented Nano Pro-Tech technology, the essence of which is the optimal distribution of carbon particles in the rubber compound, thereby minimizing intermolecular friction, which means that tire heating and energy loss are significantly reduced.

The shape of the contact patch (more "flat") prevents uneven wear, and the widened annular grooves minimize the risk of aquaplaning. Special resonator grooves are responsible for minimizing noise, providing acoustic comfort for those sitting in the passenger compartment. True, in all fairness it should be said that "sound" is still not the strongest side of this model.

A special feature of this model is its noticeably long mileage. For this, too, we must thank the developers who managed to achieve an outstanding balance in terms of uniformity of wear and distribution of pressure.

Dignity

  • wear resistance and strength;
  • keep the road well;
  • rigid sidewall.

disadvantages

  • wear resistance and strength;
  • excellent behavior on wet asphalt;
  • keep the road well;
  • rigid sidewall.

The best summer tires in terms of price-quality ratio

The next group of products in the rating compiled by Expertology experts is the most voluminous. Here our experts have identified as many as six models that can be considered optimal in terms of a combination of cost, technical characteristics, endurance and quality in general.

Summer tires for medium and small crossovers, city SUVs. The model first entered the market in 2012 and from the very beginning was positioned by the manufacturer as a model with a particularly soft ride, minimal noise and an impressive service life.

These tires are available in the following dimensions: diameter - from 15 to 20 inches, profile width - from 205 to 255 mm, profile height - from 50 to 70%. Speed indices - H, V. Load indices - from 94 to 109 (for one tire maximum from 670 to 1030 kg).

In this model, the manufacturer has placed serious emphasis on environmental friendliness, which in this context directly correlates with high fuel efficiency. It was in the model described that the manufacturer first applied its innovative BlueEarth technology.

Compared to most of the "green" tires on the market, then this model behaves much better on wet and abundantly wet surfaces due to a special patented rubber compound with the addition of orange oil - a proprietary "chip" of Yokohama.

Dignity

  • wear resistance;
  • controllability;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • high efficiency of fuel consumption;
  • confidently holds the wet road.

disadvantages

  • quite noisy in places;
  • insufficient traction on the ground.

A special place in the ranking is occupied by asymmetric tires of the Extreme Performance class, designed for intensive use on supercars (Porsche 911, BMW M6, Audi R8, etc.). According to the manufacturer, the Kumho Ecsta PS91 provides excellent grip on dry and wet roads, good feedback and high cornering stability.

Summer tires are produced in the following dimensions: rim diameter - from 18 to 20 inches, profile width - from 225 to 305 mm, profile height - from 30 to 45%. Speed indices - H, Y. Load indices - from 88 to 107 (maximum from 560 to 975 kg per one tire).

The model was first introduced in 2013 and was immediately noticed by professionals and sophisticated drivers as something special. It has a rather narrow "specialization" - focused largely on use on high-speed tracks. Even the tread design with a checkered theme in the design of the sidewalls and images of racing flags speaks of this very eloquently.

Directional asymmetric tread gives exceptional handling stability and high speed performance even during sharp direction changes. It also provides incredible grip and lightning-fast steering response.

In 2014, these tires were awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award.

Dignity

  • strength;
  • excellent handling;

disadvantages

  • strength;
  • excellent handling;
  • exceptional durability.

Next in our ranking are asymmetric summer tires targeted at medium-sized passenger cars and larger sports cars. The Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 model is positioned by the developers as high-performance and maximum safety tires for any summer weather.

The assortment is represented by the following choice of dimensions: diameter - from 14 to 19 inches, profile width - from 175 to 275 mm, profile height - from 45 to 65%. Speed indices - H, T, V, W, Y. Load indices - from 77 to 112 (from 412 to 1120 kg maximum load per tire).

The manufacturer himself identifies three major positive aspects in this model: perfect grip and highly predictable handling, the shortest possible braking distances on different surfaces, increased driving comfort and low rolling resistance. Numerous independent tests indicate that, in general, these statements are true.

The German tire maker managed to achieve these advantages due to filigree optimized macroblocks in the shoulder sections, innovative three-dimensional edges, a combination of reinforced sides and flexible shoulders. To reduce noise, engineers have provided small Whisper Bars in the shoulder areas.

Dignity

  • excellent grip in dry and wet weather;
  • low rolling resistance;
  • quiet enough;
  • overall high ride comfort.

disadvantages

  • no distinct deficiencies were noted.

While forming the rating, Expertology specialists paid special attention to this extremely interesting model. It is a symmetrical directional summer tire that is also quite adaptable to winter weather conditions. The 2017 model is positioned by the manufacturer as an extremely safe tire for off-season driving.

The manufacturer offers the following dimensions: landing diameter - from 14 to 18 inches, profile width - from 175 to 245 mm, profile height - from 40 to 70%, speed indices - H, T, V, W, Y. Load indices - from 86 to 104 (max. Load per tire from 530 to 900 kg).

The predecessor of this model was the CrossClimate “no plus”. It's a decent all-season ride, but it did poorly in summer tire tests. These shortcomings in the CrossClimate + model have been eliminated. The manufacturer claims that this model's dry grip performance is comparable to that of premium tires.

Also, according to official information, CrossClimate + can be safely operated at temperatures up to + 40 ° C and a residual tread depth of less than 4 mm. This value is critical for most summer tire models from other manufacturers.

Dignity

  • excellent behavior on a bad road;
  • versatility;
  • reliable adhesion to the road surface;
  • predictability and exceptional controllability.

disadvantages

  • no significant shortcomings are noted.

The next position in this ranking group is the modernized model of comfortable summer tires, first introduced in 2012 as the next generation after the Proxes CF1. Focused on powerful passenger cars with an emphasis on the harmonious combination of high speed, reliability and durability.

Toyo Proxes CF2 are available in the following dimensions: rim diameter - from 13 to 19 inches, profile width - from 165 to 235 mm, profile height - from 40 to 80%. Speed indices - H, S, V, W. Load indices - from 75 to 106 (maximum tire load - from 387 to 950 kg).

This model has been repeatedly tested by independent experts and specialized publications. Almost all of them agreed in high ratings of ride comfort, low noise level, predictability of behavior in a variety of conditions, including extreme ones.

All those qualities that are so highly appreciated by experts are embodied by the developers due to the optimal content of silica in the rubber compound, a balanced tread design, a deeply thought-out design of the bead zones of the tire in combination with a steel belt layer.

Dignity

  • strength;
  • wear resistance;
  • controllability;
  • predictable behavior in difficult conditions.

disadvantages

  • a noticeable percentage of complaints about increased noise.

And completing this rating group are summer tires from Hankook Tire, which in another nomenclature classification is called Optimo ME02. Focused on passenger cars and driving in the summer season. The manufacturer emphasizes high performance on asphalt of any humidity, as well as pleasant driving with a minimum noise level.

Available in the following dimensions: diameter - from 13 to 16 inches, profile width - from 175 to 235 mm, profile height - from 55 to 70%. Speed limit index - H (up to 210 km per hour). Bearing capacity indices - from 80 to 100 (from 450 to 800 kg per one tire).

The manufacturer's specialists have deeply thought about the nature of the tread pattern in order to ensure predictability and safety at high speeds in any weather. This was achieved by a combination of a V-shaped texture of the central zone and 4 extended longitudinal grooves - in case of a sudden collision with a puddle, water is drained away with lightning speed.

The shoulder area is also well thought out - a dense texture is made up of alternating rigid sections and transverse narrowed grooves. This increases confidence in cornering at high speeds, while minimizing the likelihood of damage to tire integrity when entering a hole or hitting a curb.

Best Summer SUV Tires

The group opens with real "all-terrain" summer tires for equipping full-size pickups and SUVs. They were first presented back in 2008, but the model turned out to be so successful that the manufacturer still produces it. They are characterized by exceptional flotation in a wide variety of conditions, as well as other important performance characteristics.

The following dimensions are offered: fit diameter - from 15 to 22 inches, profile width - from 225 to 325 mm, profile height - from 45 to 85%. Maximum speed indices - P, Q. Bearing capacity indices - from 108 to 128 (maximum load on one tire - from 1000 to 1800 kg).

The tread is made in a characteristic aggressive design, the elements of which fulfill both a functional and aesthetic role. The cleverly positioned hook blocks provide a secure grip on rough terrain while guaranteeing acceptable performance on normal, level road surfaces.

Three-layer construction with raised flanges for durability and increased load capacity.

Dignity

  • extremely durable sidewall;
  • quiet enough;
  • good permeability in mud;
  • very well out of rut.

disadvantages

  • no pronounced shortcomings were noticed.

The second position in this rating group is tires manufactured by Michelin. This model features excellent flotation thanks to the Mud Catcher tread property. In the shoulder area, the tires take on an aggressive design note with the formation of a set of cutting edges, due to which the tire shows outstanding traction properties on almost any surface.

These tires are produced in the following dimensions: diameter - from 15 to 18 inches, profile width - from 185 to 285 mm, profile height - from 50 to 85%. Speed indices - H, S, T. Load indices - from 92 to 120 (maximum tire load - from 630 to 1400 kg).

When creating summer tires of this brand, Michelin uses a special rubber compound, which is produced with elements of the same technologies that are used to make tires for wheeled earth-moving machinery. Tires are capable of effectively self-cleaning from small and medium stones.

Michelin Latitude Cross developers have paid great attention to trying to minimize tire noise. The special curvature of the tread blocks and the characteristic tread pattern of the Silent Tread were aimed at this. However, according to the results of numerous tests, it must be admitted that the noise level is not the strongest side of the Michelin Latitude Cross.

Dignity

  • durable and reliable;
  • controllability;
  • excellent grip on the road surface;
  • wear resistance.

disadvantages

  • noticeably noisy.

Top three summer SUV tires in the ranking are Japanese tires from Yokohama Rubber. The model belongs to the widespread category of AT all-purpose tires. Having entered the market, these tires naturally replaced the super popular but outdated Geolandar A / T (G011) model, which had been in stable demand for about 10 years.

The range includes the following dimensions: diameter - from 15 to 20 inches, profile width - from 175 to 325 mm, profile height - from 45 to 85%. Maximum speed indices - H, L, Q, R, S, T. Load indices - from 90 to 131 (maximum load per tire - from 600 to 1950 kg).

In Yokohama Geolandar A / T-S G012, the famous Japanese manufacturer has introduced a special all-terrain tread. It achieves an optimal balance of rubber softness, giving excellent grip and acoustic comfort when driving on an asphalt road, and at the same time a decent tenacity when passing a "heavy" dirt road. However, this rubber should not be overestimated too much, since it is still not quite suitable for extreme driving.

The rest of the model's characteristics are very good. Optimized tread blocks - stepped sides in two directions (DAN2 technology). Small grooves have a 3D structure of mating planes, the technology of rounded blocks is applied to reduce noise.

Dignity

  • wear resistance;
  • can be installed on light trucks;
  • quiet;
  • controllability;
  • excellent self-cleaning in mud.

disadvantages

  • the declared reinforced sidewall does not quite live up to expectations.

Best Quiet Summer Tires

While compiling the rating, the Expertology experts have singled out three tires in a separate group, in which, in their opinion, the manufacturers have managed to achieve the minimum noise level. These three models - Michelin Primacy 3, Bridgestone MY-02 Sporty Style and Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - are suitable for those drivers who value acoustic driving comfort.

These are comfortable car tires with an asymmetric tread design, designed for passenger cars and optimized for city driving. The model was first introduced in 2011, replacing the Michelin Primacy HP. At the same time, the latter have not lost their relevance due to other noticeable advantages.

The assortment is presented in the following dimensions: diameter - from 16 to 20 inches, profile width - from 185 to 315 mm, profile height - from 35 to 65%. Maximum speed indices - H, V, W, Y. Bearing capacity indices - from 83 to 104 (max. Tire load - from 478 to 900 kg).

Summer tires combine reliable grip in all weather conditions, decent durability and low rolling resistance.

The developers managed to achieve high characteristics due to the use of striking innovations and an improved composition of the rubber compound, which is based on a combination of three elastomers, a strengthening agent based on silica and a synthetic plasticizer.

The increased contact patch area maximizes efficiency in extreme maneuvering. To optimize contact with the road under increased load, special Lock-sipes with a thickness of 0.2 mm have been introduced into the tread design. When the tire rolls, they close, thereby increasing the rigidity of the tread blocks and preventing their deformation in the contact patch.

Dignity

  • well "swallows" irregularities;
  • holds the road securely;
  • confident braking on asphalt of any moisture.

disadvantages

  • relatively fast wear.

This model is produced in the following dimensions: diameter - from 13 to 18 inches, profile width - from 175 to 235 mm, profile height - from 40 to 70%. Speed indices - H, V, W. Load indices - from 82 to 95 (maximum tire load - from 475 to 690 kg).

The manufacturer himself positions this model as a universal tire for tuning. However, voluntarily or not, its main advantage turned out to be noiselessness, as evidenced by numerous reviews of motorists and independent tests.

The tire construction is a real achievement and pride of the Japanese manufacturer. It is called the Flat Contact Parch and has a distinctively square shoulder. This solution prevents the tires from deforming when cornering, thereby preventing uneven wear. Reinforced frame is of no small importance, preventing irreversible damage.

In the design of the shoulder part, the technique of paired blocks is used - the idea is quite standard and widespread, but extremely effective. This gives the shoulder the desired stiffness and is more responsive to steering.

Dignity

  • perfectly balanced;
  • bumps comfortably;
  • strong sidewall;

disadvantages

  • faulty handling.

The Goodyear model closes this rating group - a summer tire with an asymmetric tread. It entered the market in 2013, replacing the "regular" Goodyear EfficientGrip. In this case, the manufacturer's intention was to increase efficiency, but low noise turned out to be a concomitant effect, for which this model is appreciated by motorists.

The manufacturer offers the following dimensions: diameter - from 14 to 20 inches, profile width - from 185 to 245 mm, profile height - from 40 to 65%. Maximum speed indices - H, V, W, Y. Bearing capacity indices - from 80 to 102 (maximum load per tire - from 450 to 850 kg).

The key characteristics of the model, in addition to the already mentioned low noise, are high coupling properties and confident braking on wet asphalt, ease of rotation, fuel efficiency.

Goodyear's proprietary ActiveBraking technology is used here - active braking, which gives the driver exceptional confidence while driving. Its essence lies in the special three-dimensional design of the tread blocks to increase the contact between the tire and the road during a sharp brake application, as a result of which a shorter braking distance is provided in all weather conditions.

Dignity

  • optimal softness;
  • shortest braking distance
  • controllability;
  • economical use of fuel.

disadvantages

  • easily prone to punctures - a "side effect" of exceptional softness.

The best summer tires for fuel economy

Now, within the framework of the rating proposed by Expertology specialists, we will pay attention to tires that are optimal for those drivers who value maximum economy in terms of fuel efficiency, which directly correlates with minimizing environmental impact.

It is a high-speed rubber belonging to the "Comfort" tire class. As the main advantage of the model, the manufacturer himself emphasizes "phenomenal handling on wet road surfaces", as well as a noticeably increased operating mileage.

Summer tires are on sale in the following dimensions: diameter - from 15 to 20 inches; profile with width from 195 to 275 mm, height - from 35 to 60%. Maximum speed indices - H, S, V, W, Y. Load indices - from 84 to 103 (maximum tire load - from 500 to 875 kg).

The aforementioned increased (up to 25%) service life by French engineers was achieved due to a uniform redistribution of pressure on the working surface in combination with an improved rubber compound.

The large contact patch area and the optimally coordinated work of each functional tread segment provide excellent traction and minimum braking distances. The innovative ASM technology gives excellent performance during active and high-speed maneuvering in conditions of sufficiently dense traffic, and also helps to maintain the car's directional stability during sharp turns.

Dignity

  • excellent handling;
  • soft;
  • wear resistance;
  • quiet enough.

disadvantages

  • subject to aquaplaning at high speeds.

The second economical model in our ranking is German summer tires from Continental AG. Here the German tire makers decided to make a high-quality and noticeable breakthrough, so the engineers had to improve almost everything - the carcass, rubber compound, profile and tread texture.

I must say that the developers managed to realize the set task, if not revolutionary, then more than noticeably. So, in comparison with the previous generation, in this model, with a shortened braking distance, rolling resistance is reduced by 20% and mileage is increased by 12%. This, as well as a number of other improvements, results in lower fuel consumption by three percent or more, depending on conditions and driving style.

The manufacturer offers the following options for the dimensions of this model: landing diameter - from 13 to 20 inches, profile width - from 165 to 245 mm, profile height - from 45 to 70%. Maximum speed indices - H, T, V, W, Y. Load indices - from 77 to 107 (maximum tire load - from 412 to 975 kg).

Dignity

  • smooth running;
  • excellent handling on surfaces of any moisture;
  • quiet enough;
  • wear resistance.

disadvantages

  • weak sidewall.

The best summer tires for the wet

This summer passenger tire is recognized by many experts as one of the brightest and most successful ideas of a respected manufacturer to develop and launch a series of a unique rain tire with outstanding performance while maintaining an affordable price in this class.

The assortment is presented in the following dimensions: diameter - from 13 to 18 inches, profile width - from 145 to 255 mm, profile height - from 50 to 80%. Maximum speed indices - H, T, V, W. Bearing capacity (load) indices - from 71 to 112 (maximum load per tire - from 345 to 1120 kg).

The tread pattern of this model is typical for the vast majority of rain tires - V-shaped directional, symmetrical. Also, these tires are characterized by an increased contact patch area, which directly positively affects road grip and stability when maneuvering. The sharp edges of the many blocks in the shoulder areas and the central part of the tire are responsible for the rapid acceleration.

In the center there is a longitudinal rib without breaks along the entire length. A characteristic feature of this element is the wavy shape of the edges, which contributes to the maximum rate of water drainage from the contact patch. In addition, such a profile of the central rib significantly reduces the level of resonant noise and vibration while driving.

Dignity

  • holds the road well;
  • low noise level;
  • practically not subject to aquaplaning.

disadvantages

  • does not like the rut.

The choice of dimensions for this tire model is as follows: rim diameter - from 15 to 23 inches, profile width - from 195 to 325 mm, profile height - from 25 to 60%. Maximum speed indices - H, J, V, W, Y, Z / ZR. Load indices - from 82 to 114 (maximum load per tire - from 475 to 1180 kg).

The unidirectional multi-radius tread, combined with twin grooves, removes water from the contact patch quickly and efficiently. A separate center track has been introduced to improve dry traction and steering precision.

Heading stability is achieved through a flangeless hybrid cage that provides maximum fit and optimal contact patch, regardless of road conditions.

The composition of the innovative rubber compound for automobile rubber DUNLOP SP SPORT MAXX includes nanosilicon with an exceptionally hard structure, which significantly increases its strength, and also improves adhesion to asphalt.

Dignity

  • durable;
  • not noisy;
  • wear-resistant;
  • excellent road holding on a straight line and in bends.

disadvantages

  • weak sidewall.

The group of rain tires in the rating of summer tires from Expertology is completed by a very interesting "Korean" - Hankook Tire Ventus V12 evo2 K120. This model is aimed at fans of high speeds and cars that can safely develop this very speed. It was first introduced to the general public at the 2013 SEMA Motor Show as an evolution of the V12 Evo.

Dimension options are as follows: diameter - from 15 to 21 inches, profile width - from 195 to 325 mm, profile height - from 30 to 60%. Maximum speed indices - V, W, Y. Bearing capacity (load) indices - from 81 to 105 (maximum load on one tire - from 462 to 925 kg).

Summer tires of this model allow you to use all the capabilities of the car on the track, without sacrificing directional stability and driving safety. The reinforced cord and the special tread shape of the products provide impeccable handling, which has been proven in tests on the Sepang race track.

Dignity

  • soft;
  • holds the road well;
  • strong cord;
  • wear-resistant.

disadvantages

  • no rim protection.

Test time: August 2013
Venue: Clermont-Ferrand, Michelin Polygon
Car: Skoda Octavia

The new summer tire test is dedicated to 16 sets, divided into two categories - the first (more expensive tires from well-known brands) and the second line (budget solutions). The dimensions of the tested models are 205/55 R16.

The main goal of our tests was not only to find the best product in each of the categories, but also to compare them with each other. In other words, we were trying to determine whether the savings (or overpayments) associated with buying certain R16 summer tires are worthwhile.

List of tested tires

First line:

  • Continental's ContiPremiumContact 5;
  • Turanza T001 from Bridgestone;
  • Ventus Prime2 from Hankook
  • C.drive 2 designed and manufactured by Yokohama;
  • Cooper Zeon CS6;
  • Primacy 3 from Michelin;
  • Cinturato P7 by Pirelli;
  • Hakka Blue from Nokian;
  • Proxes CF2 from Toyo;
  • EfficientGrip Performance by Goodyear.

Second line:

  • Viatti Strada Asimmetrico;
  • Formula Energy;
  • Sport 3 from Cordiant;
  • Nordman SX;
  • MP 44 Elite 3 from Matador;
  • Sava Intensa.

One manufacturer, but different brands

Many tire companies sell their products under several brands. As a rule, if the name of the tires coincides with the name of the manufacturers (Continental, Nokian, Pirelli), then the tires can be safely attributed to the first line. They use innovative solutions and the latest technology.

For budget rubber, manufacturers use other names (Nordman, Matador, etc.). They are intended for the mass market, have a simpler design, a slightly complex rubber compound (without any impurities and additives like Finnish pine oil, only everything you need), a standard tread pattern.

The second line also includes the tested Viatti and Cordiant tires.

Price question

The difference in the cost of tires of the first and second lines of standard size R16 205/55 is not as significant as when buying larger tires (for example, for crossovers and SUVs). Our case was no exception. Tires, positioned by manufacturers as better quality, cost around 3-4 thousand rubles, and the price of the second line does not exceed the threshold of 3 thousand rubles.

Wet road tests

The greatest number of questions when testing summer tires arises at landfills with wet asphalt. It is on this that you can find most of the problems and shortcomings of tires, so our test of R16 tires began with this capricious surface.

The first tests were driving in a circle with a 220-meter diameter and driving along a ring track, the length of which was 2.3 km. We took the Skoda Octavia as a test car. As a result, the results were as follows: among the leaders, as expected, were the products of the Toyo, Continental and Pirelli brands. The worst in this tire test were the Viatti and Sava tires.

Then we moved on to testing tire handling and assessing its effect on vehicle stability. In addition to lap time, each test suite was subjectively rated for responsiveness and ease of use.

As usual, some tires allow you to show convincing results, but constantly keep the driver in suspense, while others, less "ardent in character", make it possible to drive a circle not so fast, but noticeably calmer.

The included stabilization system also contributes to the final assessment. She works together with some car tires. With other sets, "electronics" clearly does not want to "be friends", sharply pulls the car when performing certain maneuvers.

In the final measurements, we nevertheless decided to turn off the stabilization system. The best way was to cope with our Skoda on Continental and Goodyear tires. It was with them that Octavia showed the best lap times. Riding on a wet road with Sava and Viatti tires, however, is not recommended. They turn the car into an uncontrollable colossus that slides like a cow on ice.

To test the drainage properties of the treads and the resistance of the tires to aquaplaning, we went to a specially prepared track. It was flooded with a uniform 7 mm layer of water. The best in this test were the Hankook, Pirelli and Formula tires. Cooper tires proved to be the worst (the first to slip out).

The latest in a series of wet tests was the braking test. Once again, Continental was among the leaders, and Sava was among the outsiders. The tires of the second line increase the braking distance of the car from a speed of 80 km / h by about 10 meters. This is a huge difference!

Dry road tests

The first test was to check the braking properties. Here the difference between the tested kits was not so huge. Between the best and worst tires, it did not exceed 4 meters. The test winners were Continental products.

Then, on dry asphalt, we determined the acoustic comfort and evaluated the overall ride. For this, Skoda Octavia went on a short trip along special routes, where there are all the delights of ordinary Russian roads (bumps, joints, well hatches). Goodyear, Toyo and Continental tires performed very well in these tests. The hardest and noisiest tires are Nordman and Bridgestone.

About the winner, worthy candidates for the purchase and disappointing ...

The summer tire test determined that the best in the 205/55 R16 class was the ContiPremiumContact 5. They performed excellently in every test, showing their best qualities. The tires have excellent wet grip and good acoustic comfort.

The only thing that slightly alarmed our test group is its high wear resistance. After six laps, which we drove in active mode, there was a lot of wear in the Continental's shoulder area. This was not seen in other models of tires.

By the way, Continental is not the only option to buy. After testing, we can safely say that motorists can choose between several very, very good tires, including Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Toyo and Hankook. Tires from these manufacturers scored almost the same number of points.

Among the tires of the second line, the best was the products of the Matador brand. She not only outstripped her "classmates", but also practically caught up in the results with Goodyear and Michelin tires. Formula Energy tires are not far behind the Matador. For their money, they performed very well in several tests.

The main disappointment of the test was the expensive Cooper Zeon CS6 tires. They fared poorly in almost every test discipline. Especially noteworthy is the inconclusive performance of the tires on a wet road.

Among the budget tires, the Viatti and Sava performed the worst, but that was to be expected.

Overview

Continental outperformed its competitors in virtually all wet test disciplines. On the handling track, they endowed the car with perfect responsiveness. When cornering, you can see the optimal balance between drift and skid. All slides are easily controlled and predictable.

The only test they lost to competitors was their resistance to aquaplaning. Continental tires float in deep puddles earlier than Formula and Pirelli.

On dry asphalt roads, the tires offer minimal stopping distances and excellent comfort characteristics. Riding with the Continental is soft and enjoyable. However, the high comfort of the tires is the reason for some lethargy and roll on dry asphalt. The Octavia, shod with German rubber, did not shine with responsiveness.

The main and, perhaps, the only pronounced drawback of tires is the high wear rate. Judge for yourself, after six laps of active riding, the shoulder tread was more worn than the competition.

In general, ideal tires for good operating conditions. An excellent purchase for drivers with a calm and adequate driving style.

About the main qualities:

  • very comfortable
  • perfectly balanced grip on wet roads
  • manageable and responsive in wet weather

Minuses:

  • accelerated wear during active driving

How much does 1 tire weigh? 8.6 kg

When were they produced? 47 week, 2012
In which country were they released? In Italy

Overview

The Cinturato P7 is far from a new tire model. It is now in its fifth year, but the second result in our test tests shows that Pirelli specialists did a great job in their time. They created well-balanced tires that remain competitive to this day.

In the wet test, the Pirelli lost only to the winner of our test. On the other hand, "Italians" are better at driving through deep puddles (higher resistance to aquaplaning).

At the same time, the tires have a sporty and slightly aggressive character. This is not always appropriate. For example, it gets in the way a little when cornering on a wet road. Abrupt breakdowns in sliding and a tendency to skid more than once made our test pilot tense, although the result was very high.

On the pavement, the Pirelli are sharper and quieter. Here they do not strive to be like sports rubber. The turns are traversed like on rails. At the same time, the tires do not emit extraneous noise that would be annoying during a long trip. The tires are also in perfect order with a smooth ride. Joints, pits and potholes (of moderate severity) are passed well, but larger bumps are given in the cabin.

A good purchase for drivers with experience and a reckless driving character.

About the main qualities:

  • do not make noise
  • very good grip on wet roads
  • active, but calm on the asphalt, well managed

Minuses:

  • revealed a tendency to skid on a wet road

Hankook Ventus Prime2

Balance weight average weight per wheel 24 g

When were they produced? 27 week, 2013
In which country were they released? In Hungary

Overview

Ventus Prime2 is a quality Korean made tires. Gradually, Hankook is gaining a leading position in the tire market. This is evidenced not only by the great interest from buyers, but also by automakers. In particular, Daimler has approved these tires for the original equipment of the flagship S-Class.

The Korean tires performed well on wet road tests. This applies primarily to opposition to aquaplaning and braking. Not everything is so smooth with handling. They, like Pirelli tires, allow you to drive quickly and safely, but they make you nervous, as the car's behavior becomes more abrupt.

On the asphalt, the tires are calmer and more flexible. You can go fast and have fun. Even at a speed of 150 km / h, the Skoda Octavia pleased with its calmness and poise. The turns are passed actively, fervently, and most importantly - safely.

In terms of comfort, the Hankook is somewhat similar to the Pirelli. The result obtained in the noise measurement test is almost the same. However, there are differences in ride quality. "Koreans" pass large irregularities softer, but they manage to pass many small ones with difficulty.

About the main qualities:

  • high acoustic comfort
  • dry handling
  • excellent grip on wet roads

Minuses:

  • there are complaints about the smoothness of the course
  • a certain harshness in reactions on a wet road makes it difficult to control

How much does 1 tire weigh? 9.1 kg
Average weight of the balance weight per wheel 50 g
Shore hardness of tires 61 units.
When were they produced? 49 week, 2012

Overview

Toyo is still a dark horse for domestic car owners. Although manufactured in Japan, Russians are still reluctant to buy the brand's tires when compared to Yokohama and Bridgestone. However, our test of R16 summer tires showed the Proxes CF2 to be very good tires with excellent wet grip. Even on the handling track, they are not obscured and show decent results (against the background of European competitors).

Dry asphalt for Toyo tires is also not a problem. The tires brake well and are well controlled (there are delays in reactions, sometimes steering is required). Imperfect handling is offset by good ride quality and high fuel efficiency. According to the latter characteristic, the "Japanese" are among the three best tires in our test.

And here we get to another important advantage. It's about the price. Of all the tires in the first line, Toyo is the most affordable. There can be only one verdict - we recommend.

About the main qualities:

  • high acoustic comfort
  • pleases handling and grip on a wet track
  • price

Minuses:

  • there are deficiencies in wet road handling

Michelin primacy 3
How many sizes are on the market? 32 (205 / 55R16 - 275 / 40R19)
Speed indicator (maximum permissible speed) 240 km / h

Average weight of the balance weight per wheel 40 g
Shore hardness of tires 56 units.
When were they produced? 50 week, 2012
In which country were they released? In Germany

Overview

The Primacy 3 does not impress with its performance on wet roads. For example, to stop, they need 2.5 m more than Continental tires. On the track, Michelin's handling also lags behind the leaders. When cornering, the drift of the front axle draws attention to itself. It is pronounced, but easily controllable. We can say that with the Primacy 3 you can drive without a stabilization system.

On dry roads, Michelin's results are much better. They were good in both the handling test and the braking test. Also, another significant advantage of these tires is good rolling. In the test for fuel efficiency, the "French" were outstripped only by Goodyear.

At the same time, the tires are not comfortable enough. The main complaints are related to the high noise level. It is unobtrusive, but audible enough. In this regard, Michelin loses to competitors.

These tires can be recommended for residents of the southern regions. Michelin promotes active and safe driving on dry roads. On wet pavement, you need to be more careful with them. They do not handle very well, and they have certain problems with aquaplaning.

About the main qualities:

  • stable and responsive handling on dry roads
  • brakes well on asphalt in dry weather

Minuses:

  • make noise
  • far from ideal handling on a wet road

Overview

Goodyear performed well on wet tarmac roads. This can be considered a tradition for tires from this manufacturer. The EGP model is no exception to the general rule. The tires contribute to a calm, soft and precise ride. It was this behavior that allowed us to record an excellent lap time. Goodyear lagged behind the leaders of Continental by 0.3 seconds.

At the same time, there are certain complaints about braking. Wheels wrapped in these tires are locked too early. The gap from the leader (Continental) is very large - almost 5 meters!

On dry asphalt, the results are opposite. Goodyear brakes well, but not very stable handling. Steering wheel responses become slower and slicker.

Overall, Goodyear is a good tire for the money. They can be recommended to drivers who are in no hurry, drive calmly and value comfort in tires.

About the main qualities:

  • comfortable
  • low rolling resistance
  • manage well on wet roads

Minuses:

  • do not brake too well on a wet asphalt road
  • "Smearing" and sluggishness of reactions on a dry road

Nokian hakka blue
How many sizes are on the market? 23 (185 / 55R15 - 225 / 45R17)
Speed indicator (maximum permissible speed) 240 km / h
Load index 670 kg
Tread pattern. Depth 7.0 mm
How much does 1 tire weigh? 8.2 kg
Balance weight average weight per wheel 24 g

Overview

Blue is another member of the Hakka family.

The Hakka Blue, which is marketed by the Finnish manufacturer as a tire with newfangled technologies for better wet handling, were not very impressive with their results. Despite the special tread grooves and the composition of silica with special components, the Finnish tires performed poorly in tests on a wet road. She simply is not able to compete on equal terms with the leaders.

On the other hand, the Finnish specialists can be commended for their good work in the area of handling. Tires delight with their responsiveness, soft transitions to sliding. However, the driver who ordered the Hakka Blue kit needs to be careful when driving through deep puddles. Tires float earlier than usual (than most of the other models tested).

On tarmac, Finnish tires would have earned better marks if they weren't so noisy. Low comfort scores severely spoil the ride experience. Even good handling with quick and precise responses does not help. This is partly due to the increased permissible load (670 kg). Because of this, the Finns had to make a more rigid frame structure.

About the main qualities:

  • handled with dignity on a wet road
  • good handling on dry roads

Minuses:

  • quite noisy
  • roll poorly, do not save fuel
  • early "float" when driving through deep puddles

Yokohama C.drive 2
How many sizes are on the market? 20 (185 / 65R14 - 205 / 50R17)
Speed indicator (maximum permissible speed) 240 km / h
Load index 670 kg
Tread pattern. Depth 8.0 mm
How much does 1 tire weigh? 9.9 kg
Balance weight average weight per wheel 38 g
Shore hardness 58 units.
When were they produced? 46 week, 2012
In which country were they released? In Russia

Overview

Previously, Yokohama supplied tires made in Japan and the Philippines to Russia. Now the domestic tire market presents tires manufactured in Lipetsk.

Let's start with a description of the merits. First, the tires are to be commended for their excellent resistance to aquaplaning. The tread does an excellent job with its drainage properties. Secondly, the tires brake well on wet roads. However, in the last "water" discipline (management), the Japanese rubber of Russian production is not so smooth. She breaks into sliding, behaves harshly and nervously. This prevented us from showing a good result on a wet track.

On dry pavement, average results were generally recorded. Braking is so-so, control is quite stable, but does not reach a high level. But there are problems with comfort. Even the smallest unevenness is a serious test for Yokohama. All pits and potholes are transferred to the body, and they are palpable.

Overall, Yokohama has far more disadvantages than advantages.

About the main qualities:

  • perfectly resist aquaplaning

Minuses:

  • poor handling on a wet track
  • uncomfortable

Total point earned - 7.7

Bridgestone Turanza T001
How many sizes are on the market? 15 (185 / 60R14 - 225 / 45R19)

Load index 670 kg

How much does 1 tire weigh? 9.7 kg

Shore hardness of tires 60 units.
When were they produced? 42 week, 2012
In which country were they released? In Japan

Overview

The problems with Bridgestone are mainly related to wet behavior. The lap times are very inconclusive. A good result was not allowed to show breakdowns in sliding, pronounced skid, which constantly has to be corrected.

There are also certain problems with dry asphalt. The tires don't brake very well. To stop at the Octavia at a speed of 100 km / h, the tires took more than 40 meters. In turn, all tires from the top five were able to do this exercise in less than 39 m.

Of course, the tires have increased carrying capacity and have a 2-ply carcass. The latter means that the tires are characterized by increased wear resistance and high strength. However, you will have to pay for this with comfort.

About the main qualities:

  • medium grip on wet asphalt

Minuses:

  • make a lot of noise
  • are unstable and poorly responsive on wet trails
  • poor ride quality

How much does 1 tire weigh? 9.7 kg
Balance weight average weight per wheel 26 g

When were they produced? 31 week, 2013
In which country were they released? In England

Overview

Cooper performed the worst of all front-line tires on wet roads. With this level of grip, they can only compete with less expensive tires.

The Octavia, shod in Cooper, slowed down reluctantly, accelerated poorly, and was generally naughty. The final position does not correct the resistance to aquaplaning. Tires float earlier than their competitors, despite the presence of multiple lateral grooves.

Dry asphalt is also not the element of this tire. The rear axle constantly strove to skid, so on the handling track it was necessary to work softly, but very actively with the steering wheel. The Cooper's braking performance is mediocre, while the ride and rolling performance is average. These are, perhaps, the only advantages of these tires, which are sold in Russia at an unreasonably high price.

About the main qualities:

  • average values in the area of comfort
  • contribute to economical driving

Minuses:

  • low resistance to aquaplaning
  • behave badly on a wet / dry track
  • there are claims to braking on dry / wet roads

Overview

Matador is a Slovak tire that is developed and manufactured under the supervision of Continental. The fact is that the plant from Slovakia belongs to the Germans, and they have invested a fairly large amount of money in its development and re-equipment.

At the same time, one part of Matador tires for the Russian car market is sent from Slovakia, and the other part is produced at the Kaluga plant.

As for the merits of the tires, excellent braking is worth noting. The short braking distance allowed Matador to take third place in the overall standings. The handling track is also in complete order. The budget winning tires allow you to go very fast without fear of sharp drifts and drifts. It is worth noting that all deviations are easily controlled by the steering wheel.

The results in the ride and noise tests are average.

Matador is one of the ideal price / performance options.

About the main qualities:

  • pleasing grip and handling stability on dry / wet roads
  • resist aquaplaning with dignity

Minuses:

  • low comfort

Overview

The Formula brand belongs to the Italian manufacturer Pirelli. It designates the tires of the second line, manufactured at the plant in Voronezh. By the way, this enterprise also produces Pirelli tires.

The budget tires have an asymmetric tread pattern. It copes well with aquaplaning and allows you to drive quietly at a fairly high speed. Unfortunately, there isn't as much good to be said for the handling and braking performance of the Formula tires. Confident control is hampered by breaks in sliding, which are distinguished by sharpness.

On a dry road, the tires behave more collected, so the results are average.

Interesting observations in the area of smoothness. Inexpensive Formula tires are more attractive than Bridgestone and Nokian.

About the main qualities

  • high resistance to aquaplaning

Minuses:

  • poor grip on wet roads

How much does 1 tire weigh? 8.5KG

Shore hardness 62 units.
When were they produced? Week 29, 2013
In which country were they released? In Russia

Overview

The Nordman SX has a tread pattern similar to the Nokian i3 tires. This indicates that the Finns are very efficient in using the available resources.

The main advantage of new old tires is the ability to effectively combat aquaplaning. Thus, the driver can drive fairly quickly and calmly on wet sections of the road. In this case, you need to be careful. On the handling track, it was noticed that tires tend to stall into skids. With braking, everything is also not very smooth. The braking distance cannot be called the shortest, and the thin line of wheel locking makes the braking neat.

On dry asphalt, the Nordman SX does not leave the best impression. They make a lot of noise, drive unstable and drive hard. On top of that, they have the longest stopping distances.

About the main qualities:

  • effectively fight aquaplaning

Minuses:

  • low smoothness
  • make noise
  • many complaints about handling and grip on wet roads

Cordiant Sport 3

Speed indicator (maximum permissible speed) 240 km / h
Load index 615 kg
Tread pattern. Depth 7.5 mm
How much does 1 tire weigh? 9.0 kg
Average weight of the balance weight per wheel 22 g
Shore hardness 65 units.
When were they produced? 21 week, 2013
In which country were they released? In Russia

Overview

The Sport 3 shares some of the traits of the Hakka Blue tires. Of course, we are not talking about using newfangled Finnish technologies. But the tread of a Russian tire is somewhat similar to that of a tire from Finland.

In terms of results, here Cordiant is inferior to Nokian. The tires did not perform well on wet road tests. The stretching and poor predictability of slides can be confusing even for an experienced driver. But in deep puddles, Cordiant behave confidently and calmly ("float" even later than Nokian).

The grip characteristics of tires on an asphalt road in dry weather are average. Tires do not have any special handling problems. Although there is no question of any sports reactions and demeanors. These are budget tires designed for the average driver.

Another disadvantage of tires is high noise. Tires “rustle” with a tread both on rough road surfaces and on smooth ones.

About the main qualities:

  • resistance to aquaplaning at altitude

Minuses:

  • make a lot of noise
  • wet handling is far from ideal
  • slow down badly on a wet track

Total point earned - 6.8

Viatti Strada Asimmetrico
How many sizes are on the market? 7 (195 / 65R15 - 225 / 45R17)
Speed indicator (maximum permissible speed) 240 km / h

Average weight of the balance weight per wheel 19 g
Shore hardness 66 units.
When were they produced? 11 week, 2011
In which country were they released? In Russia

Overview

Don't be fooled by the beautiful Italian name. These are ordinary budget tires that have not shown anything outstanding. They are unstable on any surface, "float" early, slow down poorly. Moreover, the Viatti is characterized by imposing, unhurried reactions to the steering wheel. The driver is unlikely to enjoy driving on these tires, which will also be uneconomical.

These tires were the worst of all in the rolling resistance test. They roll poorly, increasing fuel consumption.

The only advantage of these Russian-made car tires is a democratic price.

About the main qualities:

  • attractive cost

Minuses:

  • make noise
  • roll poorly, increasing fuel consumption
  • poorly handling and braking on dry roads
  • not stable enough on a wet track

How much does 1 tire weigh? 8.3 kg
Balance weight average weight per wheel 34 g
Shore hardness 63 units.
When were they produced? 3 week, 2013
In which country were they released? In Slovenia

Overview

The Sava tires, despite being developed under Goodyear supervision, performed very poorly in our test. They have failed in almost every discipline. Things are especially bad on a wet road. When braking from a speed of 80 km / h, the Skoda Octavia needed an additional 9 meters of road.

Not much better with overclocking. They literally slow down the car, although the handling is more or less decent. The tires begin to slide smoothly, making them easy to control. However, this happens at low speeds, so it makes no sense to compare tires with leaders. This

Summer tires are designed to provide good traction in mild weather conditions, in temperatures of 7 degrees Celsius and above, on wet or dry surfaces.

We have studied the quietest and most reliable summer tires in sizes R15, 16, 17 on Yandex.Market, sorting them by popularity, and having read user reviews about a particular model. This is how the rating of summer tires for 2018 was compiled, which we bring to your attention.

10. Pirelli Cinturato P7

The average price for one tire is 5,923 rubles.

Opening up our top 10 is an impressive all-rounder, with firm cornering and short braking distances on wet and dry surfaces. Its advantages include good handling and low noise.

Driving on wet roads, Pirelli tires are perhaps second only to the # 1 rating and resist aquaplaning better than most competitors. As it is said in one of the reviews "in a downpour at 140 km / h they stand tightly."

Disadvantages: humming is heard at high speed.

By the way, the winter version of the Pirelli tires - Ice Zero - leads.

Average cost - 3 497 rubles.

An excellent option in terms of price-performance ratio. Dry Suction Sipe technology effectively sucks water out of the road by directing it to the tire's main grooves. Thanks to this, Hakka Blue achieves maximum contact with the road surface. If you often drive on wet roads or city streets, and are wondering which summer tires to choose for "cheaper and more reliable", then one of the preferred options is the Nokian Hakka Blue. On dry pavement, the tires also behave obediently and predictably.

This rubber does not become tanned at the first frost, which allows it to be used from early spring to late autumn. The noise level is quite comfortable even at high speed.

Minuses: weak sidewall, high wear.

It costs, on average, 5,586 rubles.

A very balanced tire with excellent grip on both dry and wet road surfaces and relatively low fuel consumption. The ride is quiet, the rut is not felt, the braking is predictable, but what more could you want from one of the best summer tires of 2018?

Disadvantages: with sudden braking, it buzzes, from a blow, a "hernia" can easily form.

Can be purchased for RUB 5,999.

If the R17 had no other competitors in the 2018 Summer Tire Rankings, the R17 would be in the top 3 instead of seventh, thanks to its high grip on wet surfaces, low fuel consumption, minimal stopping distances and safe behavior. on dry roads. In addition, it is quiet on good asphalt, shockproof and not afraid of ruts.

Disadvantages: on coarse to medium-grained asphalt these tires start to vibrate and the price is high for size R17 and above.

Sold for 3,012 rubles.

"Which summer tires are 15 better?" - you ask. The answer is Hakka Green 2. A summer tire test conducted by Za Rulem magazine ranked this Russian-made rubber in 1-2 places for the best braking properties on wet road surfaces, the best speed when performing a “dry” shift, excellent directional stability and good handling in extreme driving.

Small remarks caused only the comfort of the tires, but this will not greatly affect the driving.

The price, on average, is 4,659 rubles.

These hard-wearing tires keep the road dry and wet after rain with confidence, even at high speeds. They have a strong sidewall, and the Turanza T001 enters into turns "like a knife in butter".

However, most reviews say that tires are noisy enough, and her resistance to aquaplaning leaves much to be desired. And off-road tires are hardly suitable, if they stretch out on a dirt road in dry weather, then they can get stuck on a wet one.

Offered for RUB 3,368.

The next in the rating of summer tires is quiet, durable and soft rubber that performed well in heavy rain. It withstands impact if the car gets into a hole at speed, where there is a high risk of puncturing a wheel. The wear resistance of this model is at a height, it is quite possible to skate on it for 3-4 seasons, while the wear will be less than 50%.

Minuses: on wet grass, soil and mud, Energy XM2 tires do not ride well.

You can buy for 2 800 rubles.

What summer tires on R16 are better if you need an optimal cost / reliability ratio? Our answer is BluEarth-A AE-50. One R16 tire will cost 3,725 rubles, the R15 size is even cheaper.

Advantages of rubber: quick start and braking, good grip on dry and wet roads, decent wear resistance, smoothly passes uneven surfaces.

Disadvantages: does not make noise only at temperatures above 20 degrees, on gravel surfaces at speeds above 80 km / h it can behave unpredictably.

The average cost is 5,064 rubles.

Solid looking tires that will adorn any car. With external advantages, they also keep the track well (both wet and dry), do not tan at low temperatures, quickly accelerate and slow down. They keep track even on a dirt road.

Disadvantage Nordman SZ's tire is noise, but you can get used to it. And their price is quite high, even for versions of the R15 size.

1. Continental ContiPremiumContact 5

Average price - 3,011 rubles.

The 2018 R15-R17 summer rubber rating is topped by a very popular model from a well-known and respected manufacturer. In addition to their low price, the ContiPremiumContact 5 tires are distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • acoustically comfortable;
  • firmly hold blows from pits;
  • resist aquaplaning well;
  • excellent braking performance on wet and dry surfaces;
  • confidently take turns even on wet sections of the track.

For all its advantages, rubber also has weaknesses. Among them: softness, and, as a result, rapid wear.

I bought a used one, wear by 40 percent. Rubber wear-resistant, traveled a lot on gravel road and without asphalt, flawlessly. Up to 80 km. it holds on a wet road, then it just pops up ... It is difficult to advise or not, this tire has more pluses than minuses, but the behavior is not very predictable, then everything is smooth, then you go into a turn and skid a little.
