As in the case of the sedan, the manufacturer does not provide information on the dimensions of the luggage compartment other than the volume in liters. As it turned out in practice, a large trunk volume is not quite as large as shown in commercials. Folding the rear row of seats is possible only if the front seats are moved as far forward as possible. The rear seat head restraints will have to be removed.

If necessary, you can remove the rear shelf, for example, when transporting bulky goods. The volume will not increase from this, but nothing will interfere with the load. You have to press the button several times. All these shortcomings are small, and, given the price of the car, they can be neglected. The main drawback of the Grants trunk in the sedan is the opening mechanism. Spring torsion bars in the closed position of the lid interfere with the transportation of goods, when loading a large load, the lid will not be able to close. Method 1

To work, you will need foamed PVC or plastic with a thickness of 3 mm or more, a dark carpet, clips, a screwdriver, glue and a hot air gun. From the selected material, a piece should be cut corresponding to the dimensions of the lid. It is recommended to make a draft from cardboard, and then transfer the sketch to the selected material. After that, using glue on PVC (or plastic), a carpet is glued.

Further, the material is heated with a hair dryer to increase plasticity. On the metal stiffening ribs of the cover, future holes for the clips are marked with a marker, and an anti-corrosion coating is applied. After drilling and treating the holes with an anti-corrosion compound, insert the clips. At the final stage, you can install the casing and fix it with plastic caps.

Method 2

In this case, a similar set of tools will be required, only spleen or foamed foil penofol 8 mm thick will be used as the material. This method will save time. The editing process is simple and straightforward.

First you need to degrease the surface of the cover, then cut out the template from cardboard and transfer the pattern to the sheathing material. The cut penofol should be attached to the metal and mark the places for the holes for the clips. After that, drill holes and treat with an anti-corrosion compound. It remains to glue the casing to the lid and secure the inside with clips.

Trunk lid Grants with sheathing looks attractive and increases sound and vibration isolation. For greater effect, you can make two layers, the first of which will be vibration-absorbing material.

Installing the trunk lock

Today Granta is available in three trim levels: "Standard", "Norma" and "Lux". Unlike the last two, the standard version is not equipped with an electric trunk and hood lock. There are no buttons in the cabin, but the manufacturer prepared everything necessary for installing the electric drive and provided the key fob with a trunk opening button. By pressing this button and holding it for more than two seconds, you can hear the lock's electric relay clicking. Only the mechanism itself is missing, which can be purchased at any car dealership. The installation process is not difficult and can be done independently. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

• Dismantle the inner lining of the trunk by disconnecting 7 caps and unscrewing the bolts securing the handle.
• After that, you can see the lock mechanism. To understand the principle of its operation in different positions, you should insert the key into the well and turn it in different directions. In the closed position, the pusher should work at idle, in the open position, press the rod, which pulls the lock tongue, opening the trunk).
• Having dealt with the positions of the lock, it is not difficult to guess that it is enough to connect the actuator rod with the pusher.
• Remove the washer and pusher. You will need a small thin metal plate into which the pusher and actuator rod will be installed. Two holes need to be made in the plate. One is for the protrusion of the pusher (located in the center), the second is for the activator rod (on the edge in the lower left). For the protrusion of the pusher, you will need to pick up a metal washer.
• Now you can assemble the mechanism, a plate is put on the pusher with a central hole. For fixing, a washer and a retaining ring are used. The actuator is fixed in place provided by the manufacturer. With the help of rods, the plate is connected to the activator through the hole.

At the final stage, it remains to check the operability of the mechanism and, if necessary, adjust the “closed” and “open” positions.

Refinement of the lifting mechanism of the trunk lid of the Lada Grant

On the Grants sedan, torsion bars are responsible for lifting the trunk lid. They do not suit many, as they interfere with the transportation of goods. To get rid of this problem, you can install gas stops. To work, you will need a set of these spare parts, a bracket and a few hours of free time.

To install the stops, you need brackets that you need to make yourself. For this, stainless steel 3 mm thick is suitable. From it you need to cut the corners of a suitable size. The next step is to dismantle the torsion bars and arcs with springs.

Brackets with stops are fixed with a rod towards the street - this ensures smooth running of the shock absorber without beating. On the other side, the gas stops are fixed in the same way. Shock absorbers do not interfere with loading and in the closed position do not interfere with the transport of goods.

For the design, you can borrow shock absorbers from the back door of the Niva. But in this case, the parameter of force should be taken into account. For example, when installing stops from the VAZ 2109, the opening of the lid will be smooth, but when closing, considerable effort will have to be applied.

When you press the key fob button or in the cabin, the trunk lock opens the lid, but it does not rise, which is not very convenient. You can correct this omission of the manufacturer in just a few minutes. To do this, you will need to purchase two clutch fork springs from the VAZ 2101 “penny”. They need to be hooked onto the technological holes in the trunk, and the revision is completed. If before that the cover was modernized and sheathed with soundproofing, then its weight became greater, which means that stiffer springs will be needed. For example, from the rear brake pads VAZ 2107 and other "classics". If necessary, the springs can be removed in a minute.

Liftback owners are aware of the problem of all hatchbacks and station wagons - in dirty weather, the tailgate gets pretty dirty. Opening the door with its automatic lifting will be very relevant for such cases.
