What kind of oil is poured into the Renault Logan gearbox? What oil to fill in Renault. What is required to change the oil in a Renault Logan box yourself?

Hi all! It's been a long time since we talked about car maintenance. The last article I wrote is z, which you can find on our website. It's time to bring up this topic. The idea came to mind to write an article about changing the oil in a Renault Logan box. Since most Renault Logans are equipped with a manual transmission, this is what we will talk about.

Regarding my communication with the Renault Logan car, I can say that the boxes on them are very durable and unpretentious. The “mechanics” itself is a very relatively simple and reliable unit. And the Renault Logan manual transmission is no exception. However, you can “kill” any box. Therefore, the manual transmission requires at least some kind of care. And the most important thing in servicing a gearbox is changing the oil in it.

The manufacturer himself assures that the boxes on Renault Logan are not serviced and the oil in them is designed for their entire service life. I have an extremely negative attitude towards this newfangled trend. The fact is that all fluids, be it brake fluid, manual transmission fluid or power steering fluid, lose their properties over time. Those. Over time, a liquid that does not fulfill its intended purpose will undoubtedly harm the box. And a car owner who blindly believes the words of automakers will end up with expensive transmission repairs. But you and I are not like that and we understand that Changing the oil in a Renault Logan box required and that's why you are here. Right? Then let's get down to business.

What is required to change the oil in a Renault Logan box yourself?

1. Place of work. This could be a garage with a pit or an overpass.
2. A set of work clothes.
3. Tool set. The most necessary ones are a 10" wrench and an 8" square wrench.
4. Container for draining waste from the manual transmission.
5. Funnel and thin extension hose.
6. Clean napkin.
7. New gearbox oil. The manufacturer recommends filling in oil with quality class API GL-4 and viscosity 75W80. Renault Logan manual transmission is filled with ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80 oil from the factory. Replacement will require 3.3-3.5 liters.

Instructions with photographs for changing the oil in a Renault Logan box

1. We drive the car into a pit or overpass.

2. Remove the metal engine protection and put it aside. To do this, you need to unscrew six 10" bolts.

3. We substitute a container for draining the waste and unscrew the 8" drain plug with a square.

4. Unscrew the control plug by hand.

5. When the oil has drained, tighten the drain plug. It is advisable to immediately change the sealing ring on the plug.

6. Insert an extension hose into the control hole and lead it into the engine compartment. We connect the hose to the funnel.

7. Fill the manual transmission with new oil. Immediately before adding liquid, oil cans can be immersed in hot water. When heated, the oil will become less viscous and will pour into the box faster. Oil must be added until it flows out of the inspection hole.

8. Screw the control plug back into place. It is advisable to immediately change the sealing ring.

9. Reinstall the engine protection.

All! On this Changing the oil in the Renault Logan gearbox finished. It took about 30 minutes. Do you agree that this is a very simple, fast and inexpensive procedure? Thank you for your attention, see you again!

According to the manufacturer's instructions, the oil in the Renault Logan gearbox should not be changed. However, car owners claim that replacing the fluid in a manual transmission after 100-120 thousand kilometers improves the quality of gear shifting. Before this procedure, many car owners have a question about what kind of oil to pour into a manual Renault Logan box.

Logan is produced not only with “mechanics”; top trim levels are equipped with an automatic transmission. Should the fluid in it be changed? The manufacturer, as in the case of mechanics, does not recommend such an operation. Car enthusiasts agree with the manufacturer and believe that fluid should only be added when there is a leak. Let's consider what oil to choose for a manual transmission, what hydraulic fluid can be added to the automatic transmission.

The manufacturer's instructions say that semi-synthetic ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80 is recommended for class J manual transmissions. Previously, in manuals from ten years ago, Renault recommended the Tranself TRJ75W80 for Logan, but it was discontinued long ago.

On one popular forum for Logan owners, the topic of gearbox oil has more than 1,000 messages. Judging by the reviews, Logan drivers stick to the Elf brand, but sometimes choose the more expensive synthetic Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 or MOTUL GEAR 30075W-90.

There is also a type that car enthusiasts did not like - SHELL Getriebeoil EP 75w90GL4. People have noted that Logan's gearbox begins to make noise with this transmission fluid, and reverse gear engages with a crunch.

The manufacturer recommends adding ELF Renaultmatic D3 Syn to the automatic transmission. We advise you to adhere to this recommendation.

Features ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80

The Elf brand is actively supported by Renault. Tranself NFJ 75W80 is made using synthetic technology and is designed for heavy loads. It contains EP additives. The international oil standard is API GL 4+. It has the following advantages:

  • differs in viscosity at elevated temperatures and thermal stability;
  • is sensitive to water;
  • perfectly protects parts from rust;
  • has a pour point of -40 °C (see table).

A complex of additives guarantees extreme pressure protection for gearbox teeth under increased loads. Tranself NFJ 75W80 provides silent gear shifting.

The main problem, according to reviews from “Loganovodov”, is that this liquid is so popular that it has begun to be counterfeited. In order to be able to distinguish low-quality products from the original, we recommend watching this video.

Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 and MOTUL GEAR 300 75 W-90

The main difference between Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 and MOTUL GEAR 30075W-90 from the product recommended by the manufacturer is that they are completely synthetic. They offer the same benefits as Tranself NFJ 75W80.

Casrtol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 at the same time ensures more reliable operation of synchronizers when compared with traditional transmission fluids that have the API GL4 standard. MOTUL GEAR 30075W-90 has long established itself as a product whose oil film remains stable even under the most severe conditions.

Their main disadvantage is their high cost. Their price is 40-50% higher than semi-synthetics.

What to look for when changing the oil

The durability of the gearbox depends on the quality of the fluid. The main thing in choosing oil for a Logan gearbox is not to go cheap and not choose an inexpensive mineral one. It is characterized by instability. Semi-synthetic and synthetic are much better suited for Logan's gearbox.

However, you should not mix different types of transmission fluid. For example, add semi-synthetics to synthetics. Or mix, for example, Elf and Motul, wanting to save money.

Some additives may precipitate and affect the operation of the gearbox gears. As the viscosity of the oil increases, it may clot and the gearbox will stop working. Therefore, it is better to choose one oil and stick to it in the future. If the manufacturer suddenly stops producing it, the oil should be replaced completely.

Hello. We will change the oil in the manual transmission for Renault Logan. We will also tell you how to check the oil level and condition.

The manufacturer does not regulate changing the oil in a manual transmission. Under operating conditions it often fails. On a Renault Logan, the left drive boot holds oil in the manual transmission.

Replacement requires three liters

Step by step replacement

1. Place the car on the pit.

2. For convenience, remove the manual transmission protection.

3. Using a brush, clean the manual transmission oil drain bolt from dirt.

4. Release the drain bolt.

5. Take the waste oil container in your left hand, and unscrew the drain bolt with your right hand.

6. To drain the oil completely, unscrew the filler plug. We twist it by hand, if it doesn’t work, you can help yourself with pliers.

The filler plug also serves to control the oil level. The level should be up to the filler plug with the machine standing on a level surface.

7. Tighten and tighten the drain bolt. It is advisable to replace the copper gasket.

8. You can add oil in different ways. The most convenient one is a funnel with a hose.

Open the hood, insert the hose into the box and calmly pour oil from the engine compartment into the box.

We pour oil under the filler plug, that is, until it flows a little from the filler plug. Usually this is three liters if the car is parked on a flat surface.

9. Screw on the filler plug and tighten it by hand.

10. We install protection and the work is completed.

I recommend checking to see if the box breather is in place. The photo below shows where it should be. The breather hose should also fit into the box. Also remove the barrel from the breather hose. If there is dirt in it, it needs to be washed. Otherwise, debris will end up in the box.

If the barrel is clogged with dirt, the hose may be pushed out of its seat in the box. When driving, dirt will get into this hole. This is not very good for a manual transmission.

Video lesson

The repair and operation manual for Renault Logan, Sandero, Largus, Logan 2, Sandero 2 states that the oil in the manual transmission is filled for the entire service life of the gearbox and does not require replacement. But during operation of the machine, the internal boot of the left drive often fails. The boot becomes tanned in the cold, breaks and water gets into the oil, which requires an oil change.

What kind of oil should I use?

On the assembly line, the manufacturer fills the manual transmission with Elf Tranself NFJ 75W-80, which Renault recommends for transmissions of the JXX, TL4 and NDX series.

Renault Logan, Sandero, Logan 2, Lada Largus with 1.4 liter engines were equipped with a jH1 manual transmission, while cars with 1.6 and 1.2 liter engines were equipped with a jH3. Structurally, the units differ in the size of the clutch housing, so this does not affect the choice of gear oil. Less common on cars is the JR5 manual transmission.

For topping up, use only Elf Tranself NFJ 75W-80, since mixing oils is not prohibited. For a complete replacement, it is not necessary to buy original products. You can choose among worthy analogues:

  • Liqui Moly Getriebeoil 75W-80 (GL-5);
  • Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 (GL-4+);
  • Motul Motylgear SAE 75W-80 (GL-5);
  • Castrol Syntrans V FE 75W-80 (GL-4+);
  • Shell Getriebeoil EP 75w90 (GL-4);
  • Valvoline Maxlife MTF SAE 75W-80 (GL-4).

The filling volume of gearboxes jH1 and jH3 is 2.8 l, JR5 is 2.5 l. Before purchasing, we recommend that you check this information in the repair and operating manual for your car model.

Criterias of choice

When choosing transmission fluid, pay attention to the specification and viscosity. The API classification is a generally accepted classification that, through testing, determines the effectiveness of extreme pressure and anti-corrosion additives. Elf Tranself NFJ 75W-80 corresponds to the GL-4+ class, which is recommended for use in synchronized manual transmissions of passenger cars. However, it is permissible to use GL-4 and the highest class - GL-5, which is designed for loaded hypoid gears.

The SAE marking shows low-temperature (number with index W) and high-temperature characteristics. 75W formulations are recommended for regions where the temperature does not drop below -40°C. If the car is operated at temperatures not lower than -26°C, oils with an index of 80W are poured into the manual transmission. As for high-temperature characteristics, in regions with a temperate climate, a viscosity grade of 85-90 can be used.

For Renault Logan, Sandero, Logan 2, Sandero 2, Lada Largus, you can safely use oils with SAE indexes: 75W-80, 75W-90, 75W-85 and an API specification of at least GL-4.

Oil change intervals

Unlike an automatic transmission, in which ATF plays the role of a working fluid, in a manual transmission the oil serves to remove heat and reduce wear on rubbing pairs. But even in this mode of operation, irreversible chemical and physical processes occur; the oil is filled with a suspension of wear products from rubbing metal surfaces. Such negative factors reduce the life of synchronizers and gears. Therefore, it is still necessary to change the oil in manual transmissions, despite Renault service recommendations.

We recommend making the first replacement at 60 thousand km. During the first tens of thousands of kilometers of a vehicle's run, parts are worn in inside the gearbox. After the break-in period, the amount of wear products in the oil decreases, so the interval between subsequent replacements can be increased to 80-100 thousand km.

Oil change instructions

1. Place the machine on a level surface.

2.Unscrew the engine and transmission crankcase protection. In some variations, the protection has a technological hole for unscrewing the drain plug.

3. Clean the gearbox housing from dirt and dust in the drain area and near the filler hole. If drained oil is to be reused, the area near the drain plug must be clean.

4.Unscrew the drain plug using a 8-square. After loosening it with a wrench/ratchet, we recommend turning the plug out manually to quickly remove it from the stream of draining waste. An increase in backlash indicates the end of the thread.

If the color of the drained oil is cloudy, with an emulsion, then there are water impurities in the oil.

5.Use pliers to unscrew the filler plug, which is located at the end of the right side of the box. It is not necessary to change the gasket on this plug.

6.Tighten the drain plug. It is advisable to replace the sealing gasket.

7. To fill in new oil, use a homemade funnel with a piece of hose or a special syringe for filling technical fluids. First pass the hose through the top of the engine compartment, and then direct it from below into the filler hole.

Pour oil into the box until it flows out of the filler hole. The same method is used for in-line level checking. As soon as the oil has stopped flowing out of the filler hole (which is why the car is placed on a flat surface), tighten the plug by hand, wipe off any oily traces and install the engine protection.

Something else useful for you:

  1. Before starting work, travel at least 10-15 km so that the oil inside the gearbox warms up and becomes less viscous.
  2. If the sealing gasket of the filler plug is not torn and is elastic, it can be reinstalled.
  3. Pay attention to the processing status. The presence of an emulsion indicates mixing of oil and water. Often such a nuisance is a consequence of a leak in the boot of the inner CV joint of the left drive shaft. Therefore, inspect the boot for tears or loose clamps. Pay attention to the transmission breather, through which, if installed incorrectly, water and dirt enter the manual transmission. Often, after unqualified repairs, craftsmen neglect the correct installation of the breather.
    4.For preventive purposes, rinse and blow out the breather with compressed air. As the pressure inside the transmission increases, a completely clogged "breather" valve can push out. If the malfunction is not noticed in time, dust, dirt and moisture will render the new gear oil unusable.

Seal

Renault Logan changing the oil in the gearbox must be done according to the regulations, that is, every 10 - 15 thousand kilometers, as well as when repairing the gearbox. Renault Logan, changing the oil in the gearbox - that’s what this article will be devoted to. We will consider in detail both the principle of changing the oil in the gearbox and the safety requirements, as well as the amount of oil in the Logan (manual) transmission.

On Renault Logan, the oil change in the gearbox is carried out together with the oil seal. It is very difficult to select oil for a Renault gearbox, because its replacement is not provided by the manufacturer. But still, in those car books, the oil that is needed for the gearbox is indicated and this is ELF TRANSELF NFP 75w-80, below we will consider the advantages, features of this oil and how much it needs to be filled.

Changing the gearbox oil on Renault Logan (Renault Logan)

An oil change in the Logan gearbox is necessary, regardless of breakdowns or high mileage. If you have a new car, you need to change the oil after using the car for six months (or after 15,000 kilometers). Usually, at the factory, the oil in the box is slightly underfilled (according to standards), and while the box is running in, its parts inside (gears) are ground in. During this initial period of use, many particles of metal shavings enter the oil. Therefore, it is better to change it yourself, despite the service center, which will deny the obligation of this procedure. Moreover, the asking price is half an hour of time and 17 dollars! But you can ride for 5 years and not worry about squeaking or sticking of the gearbox lever.

All the details of changing gearbox oil for Renault (Renault)

The first step in properly changing the gearbox fluid is purchasing the right mixture. Remember that gearbox mixture and engine oil are different products. And those motorists who calmly pour engine lubricant into the gearbox are at great risk.

Before pouring new oil into the Renault Logan box, you need to drive a little, thereby warming up the lubricating fluid and mixing it (with dirt and impurities). This is done for subsequent easy draining of the oil and maximum cleaning of the box cavity. The most practical place to change the oil in the gearbox will be a car repair and inspection pit.

Advantages and features of ELF Tranself NFJ 75W80 oil:

  • The formula used in the creation process eliminates the problem of speed jumping;
  • Has heat resistance at the highest level;
  • Even in the most severe frosts, it retains a liquid structure for easy gear shifting;
  • EP additives for gearbox parts retain resistance to loads;
  • Protection against corrosion and oxidation;
  • Good viscosity stability and resistance to water.

For a safe replacement procedure, it is worth considering these examples of precautions:

  • Protective gloves and a gas extraction device must be used;
  • It is also necessary to use safety glasses;
  • Use only serviceable tools;
  • Use a hat if possible.

The list of tools used to change the oil is small:

  • 8 mm square wrench.
  • Pliers.
  • Portable lighting.
  • Wire brush.
  • 10 mm socket wrench.
  • Funnel with hose (0.5 m) or blower.
  • Container for draining used oil.

The procedure for changing the oil in a Renault Logan gearbox

Changing the oil in the gearbox yourself is carried out in the following order:

If you need to add oil to the Renault Logan gearbox, save the container left after pouring the liquid (you can buy 1 liter for this case). You can also simply rewrite the name so you don’t forget. And the waste can also be used to heat a garage or a box under a car (if you have such a stove). If not and no one needs it, you need to dispose of the waste liquid. This is done by the city organization for the disposal of hazardous household waste. Moreover, almost every garage cooperative has a collection tank for such waste.
