Fuel consumption on the Daewoo Matiz. Reasons for increased gasoline consumption. Daewoo Matiz: Children's whims I hope there will be no continuation

08.09.2016

Daewoo Matiz is a car that is very often considered for car owners to buy as their first car, especially when the budget is not large. A small and nimble little car is very convenient in city traffic, while externally the car looks like a toy, despite this, the interior is quite spacious. Add to this not bad reviews about reliability, low fuel consumption, and the recipe for a good city runabout is ready, but now let's talk about everything in order.

The first Daewoo Matiz rolled off the Korean assembly line in 1998; the car's design was invented by the Italians from the ItalDesign-Giugiaro studio. In 2002, the manufacturer modernized the model, as a result the rear lights and headlights were changed, which still remained round, and the direction indicators also became round. And the stamping on the hood well emphasizes all the roundness of the new restyled body. In addition to external changes, the Daewoo Matiz received a more powerful 1-liter four-cylinder engine (64 hp) compared to its predecessor. An automatic transmission has also become available, and in some countries a CVT. At the end of 2008, cars with automatic transmission were discontinued.

Advantages and disadvantages of Daewoo Matiz with mileage

Most Daewoo Matiz sold on the secondary market are equipped with a small-displacement 0.8-liter engine; as for power, there are many indicators of 49, 51, 52 hp. The peculiarity of this power unit, first of all, is that it does not chirp at all, since motors usually work, and the sound is more reminiscent of the operation of a motor scooter rather than a full-fledged car. The timing belt needs to be changed at least once every 50,000 km, but many owners recommend carrying out this procedure at shorter intervals, at 35 - 40 thousand mileage, since a belt rupture threatens with catastrophic consequences, bending of the valves and a full-fledged expensive repair of the power unit. At 100,000 miles, the idle speed control and throttle position sensor need to be cleaned.

The battery here is not standard, it is small in size and therefore has low power, so experienced users of this car recommend that in cold weather, before starting, turn off all consumers; if this is not done, there is a heavy load on the electrical circuit, and it may simply not withstand it. First of all, the load goes to the diode bridge, which is a weak point and often does not last long. The generator is also not very reliable and often fails, and due to the peculiarity of its location, repairs are quite labor-intensive.

The Daewoo Matiz engine is not omnivorous, so it is advisable to refuel only at good gas stations, otherwise you will very often change the spark plugs and clean the injectors. Over time, oil seals lose their elasticity and begin to leak, this also applies to the cylinder head gasket. Engine oil should be changed every 10,000 km, and filters as required, and if you follow all the recommendations, the engine will work out its service life of 250-300 thousand kilometers without any problems. When purchasing this used car, be sure to check the compression in all cylinders, also the live power unit drives smoothly and without jerking, and there should be no blue smoke coming from the exhaust pipe.

Transmission

There were two types of gearboxes for Daewoo Matiz - automatic and manual. An automatic transmission was installed only on cars with a 0.8-liter engine, and a CVT was installed on cars that were assembled in Korea, but such examples are very rare on the secondary market. Taking a car with a CVT is quite risky, since repairs are quite expensive, and the service life does not exceed 150,000 km.

The five-speed manual transmission is quite reliable, but some owners complain about its performance. For example: to unclear gear shifting, or to the fact that at high speeds a hum is heard from it. The oil in the box is changed every 50,000 km, and if you want gears to shift easily, choose higher quality oil and change at shorter intervals. The clutch of a manual transmission lasts 50 – 70 thousand km. During operation, an automatic transmission very rarely presents surprises, and if properly maintained it will last up to 250,000 km.

Suspension resource

The peculiarity of the Daewoo Matiz suspension is that if the car is operated calmly and carefully, then there will be no problems with the chassis for a very long time. But if the previous owner did not spare it and constantly jumped over bumps, the suspension will begin to fall apart, fortunately its repair is not at all expensive. The original brake pads here are not of very good quality; there are cases when they do not last even 10,000 km, so it is recommended to replace them with non-original ones. The service life of shock absorbers, ball joints, and hub bearings directly depends on the operating mode; under average quiet conditions, they should last 50–60 thousand km.

In the rear suspension the situation is approximately the same, the main part that fails here is the shock absorbers; with careful operation they will last up to 80,000 km. But the exhaust system is very much criticized for the fact that it does not tolerate our climate well, and after 2–3 years of operation it needs to be changed.

Body

One of the main problems of this car is the quality of the metal body parts and paintwork. Corrosion quickly affects the sills, wheel arches, hood, trunk lid and doors; this problem is typical not only for Matiz, but also for all cars produced by the Daewoo company. Therefore, when choosing a car, you need to be extremely careful, since resellers and dishonest owners often seal rotten metal with foam, paint it and cover it with vinyl film.

Result:

Daewoo Matiz - captivates with its compact size, toy appearance and low cost of maintenance. But you should be very careful when choosing such a used car, since it has a fairly weak metal, and the operating life of the main units does not exceed 250 - 300 thousand km, and this is with careful operation.

Advantages:

  • Compact dimensions
  • Low fuel consumption.
  • Reliable engines and transmission.
  • Not expensive service.

Flaws:

  • The metal of the body and exhaust system rusts quickly.
  • Noise insulation.
  • Short suspension travel.
  • Weak battery.

If you are or were the owner of this car brand, please share your experience, indicating the strengths and weaknesses of the car. Perhaps your review will help others correctly.

Judging by the comments to the announcements of our summer trip, the most questions were raised not by the length of the route or the places we would visit, but by the choice of vehicle. This is understandable: domestic passenger cars are famous for their lack of reliability and comfort, and in general, why not a motorcycle?..
Nevertheless, we chose the “cart” for a long time and meticulously (we even made signs with the pros and cons), and decided on Vazzik quite deliberately.

Under the cut, I will answer a few questions “why not...” and tell you what kind of car we ended up getting.
You are motorcyclists, why not on a motorcycle? Moreover, you already have it.

At first glance, the choice is obvious: we love motorcycle tourism, and the Africa Twin suits our purposes perfectly - a reliable, simple and economical device. However, upon closer examination, it turned out that not everything is so simple. In the case of a moto, there are two options:
- Two on one. Going on a trip for three months is not the same as going on vacation for two weeks. We need more things, more spare parts, more tools. Water, fuel, etc. This means that we will most likely get an overload, or just a projectile weighing under 400 kg with riders hung with a bunch of junk. And everything would be fine, but in Asian countries there are a lot of sandy roads, on which moving in such a condition (and even with a passenger) will be not only uncomfortable, but simply dangerous. I must admit, I’m not particularly experienced in off-road motorcycle riding, so this would be more than a serious test for me. Further more. Because We don’t have any support, then any injury or simply deterioration in the pilot’s health is a big risk, because Tatyana will not be able to fly Africa due to her short stature.
- Everyone on their own motorcycle. In this case, the loading problems are solved, but many others remain. Buying a suitable vehicle for a girl of this height is already a whole story, and the specific requirements of the route (you need, if not enduro, then at least a SUV) make the task doubly more difficult. Also, in any case, the device should not be very old, so the issue of budget plays an important role (and Africa, by the way, although in excellent condition, is from 1994, which is also a lot). We take into account the experience of off-road driving - Tatyana has even less, and even that is on a low Virage. Let's add other general disadvantages of motorcycling. For example, a motorcycle is more noticeable and attracts the attention of both traffic cops and locals, who, as you know, are not friendly everywhere. All the junk on the moto is practically not protected from thieves and simply curious people - it is better not to leave equipped devices unattended for a long time. In general, it turned out that apart from the pleasure of riding on two wheels and a certain brutality and “rubbiness”, motorcycling in our situation does not benefit anything, but on the contrary. Therefore, it is an effort of will to refuse.
Need an SUV! The same Frontier that we already have will work great!

Indeed, this candidate looks promising: frame, all-wheel drive, good capacity and payload, unpretentious engine, air conditioning. After all, Nissan was bought with more or less long trips in mind. But there are plenty of disadvantages here too. The first is fuel consumption. This figure has never dropped below 11 l/100 km while driving on the highway. For a 3.3 petrol car with an automatic transmission this is not so bad, but not on this trip, because we will be unemployed, deprived of any material support. A passenger car on the highway eats one and a half to two times less - profit! Further. The pickup truck has very difficult repairability. What does it cost just to replace the spark plugs and remove the intake manifold (or the hood, depending on your luck). Automatic transmission... Despite all its advantages, it still doesn’t inspire confidence in me. And every time the brain slips in a picture of a suddenly running out of automatic in my father’s car, and the story was repeated twice: first on the ’96 RVR, then on the 2000 Tribute. I don’t know what to do in the steppe of Mongolia with a non-running automatic transmission, and that’s why it’s scary. Of course, if the pickup were new, there would be no questions, but here we have what we have. And if the car is not young, then it is better to have spare parts with you and/or along the way. It will be very difficult to find some original gadget for an American pickup truck of Japanese origin in the outback, and, again, the budget does not allow you to buy a full body of spare parts in reserve. Therefore, I still had to part with the pickup truck and turn my attention to more down-to-earth, “people’s” cars.
And yet, without all-wheel drive and ground clearance it’s bad. Niva! Cheap and cheerful!
There should be a photo here of the red Niva that I once had, but I couldn’t find it in electronic form.
Frankly, Niva seemed like a very good option, she even made it to the finals along with Vazik. I know very well what kind of car this is, because my journey into the world of jeeping and auto tourism began with it (and therefore, by the way, I have special feelings for it). The advantages and disadvantages of the Niva are well known to everyone. The asset is low cost, excellent cross-country ability by the standards of the class, sufficient capacity and carrying capacity for two people, an abundance of spare parts in any roadside store and all sorts of different services. However, this car was eventually rejected by us due to outweighing shortcomings. For example, fuel consumption on the Niva, although lower than on the Frontier, is still comparable - around 10 l/100 km. The permanent all-wheel drive system has a lot of weak points with a low resource (an abundance of constantly rotating bearings, shafts and seals in the transmission). Finally, comfort tends to zero - hard, loud, uncomfortable. I remember when I moved from Niva to 21099, I was amazed at the difference, although the latter is also not ideal. The final argument was that only Niva vehicles with a mileage of 70-80 thousand km fit into the designated budget, and for this car this already matters.
In general, in the end we decided that since we have a light tourist trip (hehe) and little money, then there is no point in chasing all-wheel drive. Passenger cars are driven in any country, including on such roads that not every expensive SUV will take the risk, and in this case we don’t need anything more. But simplicity of design and cost-effectiveness will clearly be to your advantage.
It was decided - a hatchback or a station wagon, as fresh as possible and without modifications, front-wheel drive with “non-street racing” ground clearance, one owner is highly desirable and the mileage is up to 50 thousand. The choice is huge, but within the available amount there was almost no choice. Only domestic VAZs, Uzbek Daewoo Matizs and occasionally suspicious Nexias (in some places, but there will definitely be no problems with spare parts for a Daewoo in Uzbekistan!), Ukrainian ZAZ Chance/Sens and some unknown Chinese made it through. Two extreme versions of the shallow due to the fact that “it is not clear what it is and what it is eaten with.” Matiz is a very charismatic car, it would fit our concept perfectly, plus it could be taken almost new. But the 700 cc engine (this is not always enough in Africa) and microscopic wheels on thin levers made us doubt its “long-lasting performance” in long-term off-road conditions with a lot of luggage.
So there was only one option left - the most reliable representative of VAZs, 2113/2114. Simple, maintainable, with a minimum of unnecessary parts (like power steering or air conditioning), economical and inconspicuous car.
After reviewing a number of copies, we eventually purchased an almost completely standard 14th 2010 with a mileage of only 20,000 km. I have never had a car this “fresh” in my life. :)

I think there is no point in talking about the design features - almost everyone is familiar with the “nine”.
Inside, everything is also quite standard - a simple trip computer (which is supposed to be replaced with one that can read engine error codes), a radio, worn-out seat covers. Manual transmission, hooray!

Engine 1.6, eight-valve, injection.

The trunk, of course, seems small and inconvenient - a tool box, a fire extinguisher, a bottle of washer fluid and a bag with a compressor took up almost a quarter of the volume. For the duration of the trip, Wazzik will be converted into a two-seater to accommodate all the junk. I removed the headrests right away - with them you can’t see anything at all in the rear window.

Finally, a little about breakdowns (that’s right, where would we be without them?) The first one, by the way, happened two minutes after purchase. The first time I got behind the wheel, I tried to adjust the rearview mirrors. Here is the result.

However, this is not the only “shortcoming”, and not the worst one either. From what has been discovered so far:
- the rear window heating does not work;
- the rear window “write” does not work;
- the heated driver's seat does not work (yes, yes, it is there!);
- the cigarette lighter does not work (I suspect that its power is supplied to the radio, because it has obvious traces of a “quick” installation);
- in cold weather the wipers sometimes refused to work, but with the onset of warm weather they repaired themselves;
- the most serious thing: when cold, the idle floats cyclically, at times there are extraneous sounds during operation (detonation knocks, it looks like a failure in the injection timing), the “check engine” is on.
In the near future we will have to deal with all this, change the oil in the engine and gearbox, diagnose the main components and start purchasing spare parts for the road.
That's it.

The car is too fragile, it looks like a toy. And it is collected not in Japan, not in South Korea, but in Uzbekistan. Well, how do they work there carelessly, and what if the technology is not followed? So we decided to check how reliable small Daewoos are. Moreover, there are more and more of them on the secondary market.

There would be no happiness...

By the way, “Matiz” could easily wear the FIAT emblem. However, the Lucciolla concept car, made in the Italdesign studio, did not appeal to the Italians. So the prototype rejected by FIAT was happily taken by the Koreans. And they were right. After all, from 1998 to 2002, Matiz invariably became the most popular Daewoo model in Europe. In the same 2002, the car began to be sold in Russia, but not of Korean, but of Uzbek assembly.

Surprisingly, in our country, where large sedans are held in high esteem, the small, simple Matiz has gained many fans. And not only his good looks and affordable prices, no higher than some Ladas, helped him in this. After all, with a length of 3.5 meters, the Korean baby turned out to be surprisingly spacious - the cabin can accommodate four adults with certain comfort. In addition, the capabilities of even a basic 800 cc engine are quite enough for the Matiz to move confidently in the city crowd. Finally, until 2009, it was possible to buy a modification with an automatic transmission. As sellers of used cars say, this Matiz is now in high demand, because brand new cars with automatic transmission are no longer brought to us due to non-compliance with Euro-3 environmental standards.

POPULAR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Body and its electrical equipment

According to the mechanics servicing the Matiz, the car was painted quite well and even after 3-4 Moscow winters it looks quite presentable. True, the same servicemen recommend anti-corrosion treatment for a brand new Daewoo, followed by repeating the procedure a year later. As they say, just in case of fire. The salon, although it looks rustic, is nevertheless put together conscientiously. The seats do not sag and keep their shape even under heavy riders, the upholstery fabric is not prone to rapid abrasion, and the plastic door trims do not fall off.

The only trouble that sometimes upset Matiz owners is related to the air conditioner drain pipe. It is not located very well - literally above the front passenger's feet. One awkward movement - the tube jumped off the mounts, and condensation spread across the floor. However, eliminating the flood was not particularly difficult - all that was needed was to secure the torn pipe with a clamp.

But not everything is great with the baby’s electrical equipment. Firstly, the capacity of a standard battery of 35 Ah in frosts of -20C and below is sometimes not enough to start a 3-cylinder engine. It is better to use a suitable size but more powerful battery. For example, “forty-fifth”, used on 64-horsepower Matiz cars, which start without problems even at -25 "C. Another weak point is the generator. Burnt-out diode bridges Clutch cable 796 + 455 Gearbox rocker cables 650 + 1760 Set of parts clutches (driven and driven discs, release bearing) 4193 + 3250 how much does a replacement cost, rubles mechanics change with enviable consistency, almost every 20–30 thousand km Finally, a simple button for heating the rear window, not equipped with a time relay, does not last long. The car's operating instructions instruct you to turn it off, but, of course, not all owners remember this. Moreover, the “electric heating pad” in the Matiz works, as they say, for itself and for that guy. There are holes in the car body only for air intake , so the windows constantly fog up.

KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Transmission

The increased demand for Matiz cars with automatic transmission is not accidental. On the secondary market, the versions that are optimal for the city are not much more expensive, but at the same time they relieve the owner of any problems with the transmission. The 4-speed automatic transmission from the Japanese company Jatko is very reliable. By and large, modifications with a manual transmission do not cause much trouble, but mechanics still note a number of periodic malfunctions. For example, overactive drivers (yes, such are found even among Matiz owners!), who do not fully depress the clutch, quickly finish off the second gear synchronizer,

Because of this, switching occurs with a characteristic crunch. However, even for careful drivers, by 40–50 thousand, the clutch release cable may fray and the cable bushings on the rocker may wear out to the limit. In the latter case, difficulties also arise with the choice of gears. By the way, the clutch itself is not particularly durable: the usual service life is very average - 70–80 thousand km. Unfortunately, the three-year factory warranty does not apply to this unit.

DESPITE JAPANESE PARTICIPATION

Engines

Initially, the Matiz was equipped with a 0.8-liter 3-cylinder engine, jointly developed by Daewoo and Suzuki. In 2001, the baby also got a liter “four”. It surpasses its less powerful brother in terms of service life, lasting an average of 200 thousand km before overhaul, while the 800 cc “treshka” works regularly for somewhere up to 150,000 km. In addition, the 64-horsepower unit is better balanced and has more torque.

In terms of maintenance, both engines require some attention. Let's start with the fact that in each of them it is necessary to adjust the thermal clearances in the valve drive mechanism. The operation, however, is cheap - for a 0.8 liter engine all the fun will cost 325 rubles - but it is necessary already after a mileage of 50,000 km. Subsequently, the adjustment is repeated every 30 thousand. In addition, pay attention to the very short service life of the timing belt. According to the instructions, replacement must be done every 40,000 km. And as practice shows, the “manual” will not give bad advice. The strap will not last much longer, and if a break occurs, very expensive repairs will not be avoided.

But spark plugs get along well with our fuel - as a rule, they are changed at every second maintenance, that is, after 20 thousand km. But a catalytic converter rarely lasts more than 80 thousand, and this despite the fact that until 2009, Matiz’s fuel equipment complied with fairly gentle Euro-2 econorms. The factory warranty for this part no longer applies for mileages over 10,000 km.

Also keep in mind that many Matiz cars were actively used in courier offices, chain restaurants and pizza delivery services. Of course, such cars were not particularly taken care of, so their engines can die even with mileages of up to one hundred thousand. Moreover, sellers of workhorses carefully disguise their commercial past - they clean the interior, remove stickers. Therefore, when purchasing, carefully study the PTS. If the machine was registered to a legal entity, it would be wiser to refuse the purchase.

IT'S ENOUGH FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS

Chassis and steering The lightweight Daewoo has a very simple suspension. At the front there are MacPherson struts, at the rear there is a beam with a Panhard rod attached to the trailing arms. Such a simple design under a small load, it would seem, should last forever. Nevertheless, only shock absorbers, tie rods with tips and stabilizer bushings can boast decent service life - beyond 100,000 km. But the front levers have to be changed after 50,000 km. The reason is the wear of the ball joints made at the same time. Wheel bearings last even less, especially for those owners who, for the sake of beauty, install alloy wheels on their cars.

On cars without power steering, the plastic steering rack bushings often wear out by 70–80 thousand, and already at 100,000 km, the play resulting from the wear of the bushings when turning the steering wheel can exceed the permissible limit.

As for the brakes, on the cars of careful owners, as a rule, the front pads do not need to be changed sooner than after 20,000 km. And the parts of the rear drum mechanism last up to 80 thousand.

First, about the advantages. My baby is the Best configuration with an engine capacity of 1.0 liters. I don’t know how the 0.8 engine behaves, but the liter one is just great!!! Accelerates easily, 140-150 km/h on the highway - without straining. An undoubted advantage is the low fuel consumption - about 5 l/100 km on the highway, about 7-8 in the city. Small size = easy to park, almost anywhere a full size car wouldn't fit.

Another plus is that the Matiz can self-diagnose, i.e. read engine error code. How to do this can be easily found on the Internet, so I won’t describe it. In addition, mine has not yet had any errors, and we have not tested the self-diagnosis feature.

Another plus is that it doesn’t get hot at all in traffic jams!

Now about the cons. The fact that when maneuvering it is necessary to take into account the short wheelbase is not a big drawback, it just takes a habit.

Even when reversing, you have to turn around, because... wide pillars (the distance between the windows of the rear doors and the rear window), although my husband says that the view is normal, it’s my brain that’s not working correctly, maybe he’s right))

Another minus is the not very convenient location of the gear shift lever (perhaps this is just for me). If the seat is moved closer, the right leg feels discomfort when pressing the brake or gas. If the seat is further away, the leg is fine, but the gear selector becomes too far away, and when engaging 3rd and 5th gears you have to lean forward with your whole body, because you can’t reach it with your hand.

I consider the small engine compartment space to be a disadvantage. How tightly everything is packed there... It’s very difficult to get to anything. Therefore, if you do maintenance yourself, for example, changing oil and coolant, you need to stock up on a lot of patience. It is generally problematic to remove the battery, because... First you need to remove the pipe and the signaling. Fortunately, there was no need to remove the battery, because... did not run out of charge, and started perfectly in cold weather.

Overall the car is excellent, I think the pros outweigh the cons.

___________________________Addition________________________

I've had it for exactly 2 years. I will write about problems that arose at about 75 thousand km. mileage

Muffler. It burned out, or I don’t know what happened to it, but a characteristic rumbling sound appeared, which often sets off the alarms of nearby cars.

The service brewed it. It took quite a long time. It cost 450 rubles. They said that next time there would be nothing left to brew, they would have to buy a new muffler.

Sound signal. Stopped working. The first suspicion - the fuse had blown - was not justified. My husband repaired it himself. I had to remove the left wing. We barely made it to the wires. One of them simply rotted, so there was no signal.

Windshield. At first I noticed that during rain and washing, a trickle of water flows from above onto the steering wheel, but I didn’t attach much importance. Further more. Soon the rubber seal inserted between the glass and the body began to fly out. Upstairs first. I tried to push it back with my hands and improvised means. It helped for a few minutes. She spat and drove like that, trying not to pay attention to the dumbfounded looks of passers-by.

But that's not all. I soon discovered that the windshield was lagging behind the body quite a lot. Then I started to panic. The services refused to repair me, they said no one would undertake such a thing, because... glass can be broken.

Then my husband and I tore off the glass completely in a clearing near the house and glued it ourselves with Moment glue. It has lasted for six months already. Tested in rain, wash and 150 km/h. But the rubber seal was never glued.

I know, I know, that I should have used the repair kit, but somehow it turned out that way without it...

I read that Matiz cars often have problems with the rubber seal flying out and the glass coming off due to the fact that it is difficult to place it symmetrically at the factory

Turn signal. When the turn signal is on, the turn signal stops flashing. At first I clicked it several times to turn it on, gradually it stopped helping, and I began to remember how to correctly show turns with my hands...

The service solved the problem in 15 minutes and 300 rubles. The auto electrician unscrewed the part indicated by the arrow in the photo. I don’t know what he did, but everything works

Ball. Approximately 80 thousand km. Summer means summer tires. On rough roads, when turning, you can hear metallic knocks on the bottom.

While changing the oil at the service center, I asked the technician to take a look at what was there. He said the balls were loose.

The problem has been temporarily resolved now, in winter. We put winter tires on and the knocking noise disappeared. There are several explanations for this, but that’s not the point, it’s that repairs await in the summer...

Well, no one has canceled corrosion...

______________________________________________________________________________________

Addition

The car is 10 years old, mileage is about 90 thousand km.

Flew off mirror on the windshield. But not completely, the foundation remains. Glued by cold welding.

Ball Still, they didn’t live to see the repairs. Once in the gardens I drove through the potholes and on the way home I noticed that the car was terribly driving to the side. I thought I had pierced the tire, went out and looked - no. So, with the steering wheel turned crookedly, I slowly drove home. And at the entrance, when I started to park in reverse, the car stopped. Two meters pushed her to the parking lot.

It turned out that the ball had fallen out. Replaced. After that I had to do a wheel alignment. And because This was a very sore spot on the car, so we had to carry out some other manipulations with the struts so that the camber was correct.

Brakes. One day they suddenly disappeared almost completely. It was a long journey. Just in case, I didn’t speed up and stayed away from everyone.

It was the pads. The pads on the left rear wheel turned out to be worn to zero, and on the right they were like new. On the one hand, they replaced it, and the situation with the brakes returned to normal.

I think there will be a continuation...

___________________________________________________________________________________________

To be continued. 01/02/02017.

In the fall of 2016, the power steering pump finally died while I was driving without power steering. Yes, the steering wheel turned hard, but there was no annoying noise. We took our time looking for the pump, and in the meantime...

In October 2016, at approximately 96 thousand km, the engine stalled and would not start. Diagnosis: the timing belt has broken. Subsequent repairs revealed that the engine head was jammed, causing the belt to break and 2 valves to bend.

Repair price... Timing belt - about 800 rubles, Valves (input and output) - 350+600, and other little things. If anyone is interested, write in the comments, I will provide all the prices and all the details.

But the main thing is that the head costs $200. We found a used engine with hydraulic fluid for 20 thousand + installation 7 thousand. Still in thought. We decided to put the car up for sale in this condition and try to repair it with little effort.

I hope there won't be a sequel

Daewoo Matiz is considered a women's car, and it is mainly purchased for trips around the city. It is profitable to buy a used Matiz when small budget, and a means of transportation is extremely necessary. The miniature, nimble car easily maneuvers in city traffic and easily parks on the side of the road.

The appearance of a Korean car is deceiving– despite the apparent compactness, the car interior is quite spacious. Car owners find many advantages in Matiz, and its important advantage is the reliability of the brand. Overall the car is not bad, but we should also mention its shortcomings.

History of the model

The first cars under the Daewoo Matiz brand appeared in 1998; the model’s predecessor is the Daewoo Tico, which was produced by a South Korean company from 1988 to 2004. The exterior and interior of the Matiz were developed by ItalDesign Giugiaro studio; since 2001, the hatchback began to be produced at the Uz-Daewoo plant.

The car was restyled in 2002, the changes affected:

Front optics;

Rear lights;

In 2003, a four-cylinder engine with a volume of 1 liter and a power of 64 hp began to be installed on the car. pp., an automatic transmission appeared, and for some countries, Matizs were also equipped with CVTs. In 2004, Daewoo became part of General Motors, and the car was also produced under the Chevrolet brand.

At this time, the Daewoo Matiz model had a twin brother, the Chevrolet Spark, which had almost the same units and chassis, and was only slightly different from the Matiz in appearance. The car was practically considered a double, therefore it has the same disadvantages as the Matiz. In 2008, the production of compact hatchbacks with automatic transmission was discontinued.

Power plants and related problems

The main power unit installed on the Daewoo Matiz is a 0.8-liter, three-cylinder engine with a capacity of 51 or 52 hp. With. The motor operates with a characteristic chirping sound, but defect or “sore” This sound does not affect the driving performance of the car in any way.

It is recommended to change the timing belt on the engine after 50 thousand kilometers, but this regulation must be followed provided that the belt itself is original. Non-original parts of the gas distribution mechanism are not always of high quality, and this must be taken into account when repairing a car. Broken timing belt this cannot be allowed on the Matiz; in the event of such a breakdown, the valves bend when they hit the pistons, and it becomes expensive to repair the engine.

On average, a 0.8 liter engine has a good service life, and during normal operation it can last 200-250 thousand km. To extend the service life of the power unit, it is important to change the engine oil on time (every 10 thousand km) and prevent the internal combustion engine from overheating.

Weaknesses in electrical equipment

The weakest point in the Matiz electrics is a generator, its characteristic malfunction is breakdown of the diode bridge. But the advantage here is that the entire unit is inexpensive, and repairs do not hit the pocket hard.

Spark plugs and fuel injectors do not tolerate Russian gasoline well, therefore Matiz should be fueled only with high-quality fuel. The battery installed in the car is small; when starting the engine in cold weather, all consumers should be turned off so as not to drain the battery prematurely. The electrical wiring on the Matiz is not complicated, and problems with it rarely arise; the most typical defect here is blown fuses.

Gearbox and accessories

The main transmission installed on the first generation Daewoo Matiz is a manual gearbox; automatic transmissions were only paired with a liter 4-cylinder engine. Special mechanical complaints Car owners don’t, except that the gears don’t always engage clearly.

The transmission oil should be changed approximately every 60 thousand kilometers; the same regulations should be followed for an automatic transmission. Clutch disc and basket on Matiz miniature, however, with normal handling of the car, the clutch may require replacement no earlier than after 50-60 thousand km.

Interior, body and paintwork

There are plenty of crickets in the interior of the Daewoo Matiz, but you shouldn’t expect quality at the level of a Mercedes from a budget Korean car. The car body is susceptible to corrosion, Almost everything rusts body elements - fenders, door bottoms, wheel arches, sills, underbody, hood. To prevent the Matiz from rusting so quickly, it is necessary to carry out anti-corrosion treatment immediately after purchasing the car.

Chassis and suspension

The front suspension of the Matiz is MacPherson type, a torsion beam is installed on the rear axle. All chassis parts are as miniature as the car itself, so when driving on uneven roads levers bend, shock absorbers, struts and stabilizer bushings quickly fail. The undoubted advantage of the suspension is that its parts are very inexpensive, including original spare parts.

Exhaust system elements do not live on Matiz for long, the muffler and resonator quickly rust, and there is no point in welding the cans - the iron is weak and not of very high quality.

In general, the Daewoo Matiz car is quite reliable; unexpected breakdowns rarely happen to it. If the car is used carefully, it will last a long time, but car owners need to remember that the car begins to break down quickly on a bad road, especially if you drive along it at a decent speed.
