About quadricycles and their differences from quadricycles. What is the difference between a quad bike and a quad bike? How to spell quad or quad

In connection with the introduction of new additional categories of driver's licenses, drivers began to have a lot of questions about what mode of transport they are entitled to drive. Most of all, this question touched on categories B and B1, and there is also a very acute question of what is the difference between a quadricycle and an ATV. Today we will try to explain the differences, and you will also find out what rights are needed for a particular type of transport.

To understand the difference between these vehicles, you need to understand what they are. Despite the similarity in name, they have completely different meanings. A quad bike is a motorcycle technique that has all the controls, as on a conventional motorcycle. The only difference is the presence of 4 wheels, as well as some restrictions associated with their use on public roads.

ATVs are designed for off-road, which means they have found distribution among hunters and fans of extreme sports. As a rule, the driver is located in a special saddle, and the accelerator, clutch, and, accordingly, the brakes are controlled on the steering wheel. Also, it completely lacks a salon, and the number of seats does not exceed two, including the driver.

The steering wheel of the ATV is also a motorcycle and is presented in the form of a pipe, for which the driver holds on to both ends. Based on all this, we can conclude that the ATV belongs to motorcycles, and also requires a driver's license of category A1.

What is a quadricycle

Now we need to talk about what a quadricycle is. Outwardly, you can find some similarities, which are expressed in the same compact size and the presence of four wheels of a small radius. The rest is the complete opposite.

Landing at the helm of this type of transport is carried out in the same way as on a car - these are seats located at a right angle. In addition, there can be four or two such seats, which already implies some kind of interior. Most species have a primitive roof, but no doors, which makes it easier to board a small quadricycle.

The accelerator, clutch and brake system are controlled by pedals located in the lower part of the cabin. Pressing them involves using the legs. In addition, the steering is the same as in a car and a steering wheel is mandatory.

Gear shifting is carried out by a special lever, the same as on a car, which already eliminates the question of having the necessary gearbox.

For quadricycles there are also restrictions on movement on public roads.. This is due to their low speed of movement, as well as the lack of necessary security systems. They have found wide application in organizations that have huge areas and require economical transport for the movement of personnel.

We felt it necessary to mention another vehicle that has a similar name. Perhaps this is a hybrid of a motorcycle and a car - a tricycle. It differs from all the others in the presence of only three wheels.

The front wheel is not driven and is rotated using a motorcycle steering wheel, on which some controls are located. Landing on a tricycle is carried out in the same way as on a car - in a special seat, however, there are some subspecies that have a special saddle, like on a motorcycle.

The rear part is the same as on a car - two wheels located on the same axle and are driving. The design speed of the tricycle is no more than 50 kilometers per hour, however, unlike their predecessors, they are allowed to travel on public roads, and registration takes place on a par with other cars and motorcycles.

Now manufacturers produce a wide variety of motor vehicles, the range of which can stun even an experienced driver. For example, many buyers do not know the difference between an ATV and a quad bike. Despite the similarity of the name, these are completely different cars.

In fact, an ATV is a four-wheeled motorcycle with a number of individual features. The list of distinguishing features of the technique includes:

  • The ATV pedals are used only for shifting gears.
  • The device is equipped with a motorcycle steering wheel.
  • The car has no interior, only a seat.
  • For control, use the throttle and brakes located on the steering wheel.
  • An A1 category license is required to drive an ATV.

One of the main differences between a quadricycle and an ATV is the design. The first one looks more like a miniature car or buggy, while the second one looks like a small tractor.

Varieties of ATVs

There are three types of ATVs: utility, sports and tourist. Each device is designed for specific tasks.

Varieties:

  • utility devices. This is a universal technique that is used for outdoor activities and work. Utilitarians can carry or tow cargo, drive through rough terrain, sand, snow and wetlands.
  • Sports. Racing vehicles allow you to develop high speed (more than 100 km / h). Cars do not differ in special cross-country ability and carrying capacity.
  • Tourist ATVs. This is a comfortable vehicle designed for long trips. Tourist vehicles are not very fast, but they can drive almost anywhere.

The difference between a quad bike and a quad bike lies in the purpose. The first device is a workhorse, and the second is a comfortable transport.

A quadricycle is a technique that does not belong to any of the categories of transport. In fact, this is a cross between an ATV and a car. You can recognize a quadricycle by the following features:

  • Control pedals. The difference between a quad bike and a quad bike is the way it is handled. In the first case, the gas and brake handle is used, and in the second, the pedals.
  • Steering wheel. A regular car steering wheel is installed on the quadricycle.
  • Body. Another difference between a quadricycle and an ATV is the similarity of an automobile body. The design is quite simple, but can protect the driver and passenger from rain and mud. The cars have a primitive roof but no doors.
  • Comfortable salon. In the quadricycle, as in the car, there are comfortable seats or a sofa.
  • Purpose. The device is used for driving on public roads. The machine cannot drive through mud or rough terrain.
  • Rights. To manage transport, you must pass the category "B" or "B1".

Due to the quality of the roads, this technique is rare in Russia. But in Europe, quadricycles are very popular. There are two types of machines:

  • Lungs. These are machines equipped with a 50 cc engine. The maximum speed of the technician is 45 km/h.
  • Large. On such devices, a motor with a volume of more than 50 cc is installed. These cars are more like smart cars.

What is the difference between a quadricycle and an ATV can be determined even with the naked eye. The appearance of miniature cars hints at their low throughput and power.

Difference between tricycle and quad

Children can be pleased with a tricycle, and adults with a stylish tricycle. This futuristic vehicle is a cross between a car and a motorcycle. But the main feature of the technique is the presence of three wheels. What is similar in an ATV and a tricycle?

  • Motorcycle wheel.
  • Location of controls. Both cars have gas and brakes on the steering wheel.
  • Saddle. The seat of an ATV and a tricycle are identical. Of course, there are exceptions, but they depend on the imagination of designers.

A tricycle differs from an all-terrain vehicle in a number of ways:

  • rights. For a four-wheeler, category “A1” is required, and for a three-wheeler, “B” or “B1”.
  • Patency. The all-terrain vehicle is designed for driving on difficult routes, and the tricycle is designed for walking and relaxing. A three-wheeled vehicle will not travel over rough terrain or mud.
  • Maximum speed. In the development of all-terrain vehicles, emphasis is placed on cross-country ability, and in the production of tricycles on speed. Particularly powerful tricycles are capable of accelerating up to 200 km / h.

The main difference between an ATV and a quadricycle with a tricycle is the use of equipment on public roads. There are some restrictions for a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle, but its brethren do not have them.

What to choose?

Having understood the differences between an ATV and a quadricycle with a tricycle, we can say for sure that the technique is completely different. Each device has its own strengths and weaknesses, so the choice of machine depends on the needs.

For lovers of speed and drive, who prefer racing tracks and common roads, a tricycle is suitable. The device will give the necessary adrenaline and energy boost. Despite its size, the speed of the technique is not inferior to many sports motorcycles.

Fans of a calm and measured ride, who do not chase speed, should pay attention to a quadricycle. Compact and maneuverable equipment will perfectly fit into city traffic and will allow you to drive almost anywhere. A tangible advantage of the car is a semblance of a roof that will protect the driver from dust and light rain.

To understand what a quadricycle and an ATV are, one glance at the technique is enough. The appearance of the ATV hints at off-road driving and high power. An ATV is a real workhorse, with which you can not only transport cargo, but also go fishing. The only drawback of the technology is the restriction on the use of ATVs on public roads. But given the patency of the car, this will not be a problem.

Over the past few years, quad biking has evolved from a popular pastime into a full-fledged sport. A wide range of four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles is on sale for extreme cross-country racing, as well as for a relaxing family vacation. Of course, for such pleasure you will have to pay a large amount - from 450 to 750 thousand rubles, but no specific skills are required to control such motor vehicles.

An adult needs to obtain a driver's license to drive an all-terrain vehicle. In the case of children's ATVs, the issue is moot, since a child who has reached the age of 16 must have a license. However, children's ATVs can be ridden from 4 years old.

For those motorists who do not want to get a driver's license, it is enough to ride on specially designated areas without worrying about imposing a fine.

To date, there are several different categories of ATVs, but many car and motorists often confuse ATVs and ATVs - the difference between them is not always noticeable at first glance.

What is the difference between a quad bike and a quad bike?

According to the new amendments made to the traffic rules, today there are two four-wheeled motorcycles with consonant names, which is why many motorists are wondering what is the difference between an ATV and a quadricycle. Actually, it consists in the following nuances:

  • In comparison, the difference between an ATV and a quadricycle primarily lies in the landing: in the first case, it is carried out "on horseback", that is, like on a motorcycle, and in the second - like in a car, that is, the seat is a sofa or chair.
  • In a quadricycle, the steering wheel is made in the form of a classic "steering wheel", in an ATV, a motorcycle steering wheel.
  • The difference between a quad bike and a quad bike also lies in the pedals: in the first, all functions are performed like on a motorcycle, while the quad bike is equipped with an accelerator, clutch and brake, which are made in the form of separate levers.
  • The last difference is the interior. It is absent in the ATV, but the ATV is equipped with it. The difference between the technique - a quadricycle and an ATV - can also be called the fact that the first "toy" is several times less common and not so popular.

Categories of ATVs

Another answer to the question of what is the difference between an ATV and a quadricycle can be the division of ATVs into several classes: tourist, sports and utilitarian. Each category of technology has its own characteristics.

Utility ATVs

Despite the fact that such models of ATVs are considered the heaviest, they are the most popular. The power and patency of utility ATVs allow you to drive uphill and off-road without any problems. The difference between utility ATVs and ATVs is that the former can be equipped with additional equipment, which makes them indispensable equipment in the household. It will not be possible to use such a vehicle as a truck, however, a 500 cm 3 engine allows solving most household tasks. Utility all-terrain vehicles are equipped with disc brakes and independent suspension.

Utility ATVs are also equipped with small diameter wheels. The difference between an ATV and an ATV is that some models of ATVs are equipped with tracks and several luggage compartments.

Sports ATVs

Sports models of ATVs are used on special racing tracks where the terrain is prepared in a certain way, but is considered impassable.

Between sports ATVs and quadricycles, the difference lies, among other things, in high-speed mode: the former can reach high speeds - about 145 km / h. Sports models are also equipped with high-power engines: the volume of power units is 800 cm 3.

The drive of the sports all-terrain vehicle is either front or rear, manual gearbox, independent suspension and powerful shock absorbers. This type of ATV is not equipped with additional equipment due to the fact that this affects the mass of the vehicle, which impairs its maneuverability.

Between sports ATVs and quadricycles, the difference lies in the presence of an emergency check in the ignition system, which turns off the vehicle's engine in the event the driver leaves the seat.

Tourist ATVs

This is a range of ATVs, created on the basis of utilitarian models and enjoying considerable popularity in the realities of our country.

Among the distinguishing features of tourist ATVs, it is worth noting the wheels with low pressure, which allows motor vehicles to pass snow, mud and sand tracks. Four-wheeled sport-type ATVs, unlike classic two-wheeled ones, are all-weather.

Tourist models are equipped with an automatic transmission with a CVT and all-wheel drive, which allows even beginners to drive vehicles. Such ATVs are not equipped with luggage carriers, however, free space is provided for them.

The advantages include a passenger seat, since tourist ATVs are most often produced double.

The difference is most noticeable in the photo: the ATV and the ATV have a different design, which immediately catches the eye and attracts attention.

Features of children's ATVs

The design of such all-terrain vehicles is similar to adult models, but they have a simpler design and a less powerful engine. Children's ATVs are also equipped with a parental control function, which includes speed control and setting the maximum speed in the range from 5 to 19 km / h, a starter key and a remote engine shutdown mechanism.

Types of children's ATVs

Children's ATVs are conditionally divided into several categories:

  • For children from 3 to 10 years old. Models are equipped with a two-stroke gasoline engine and a 350-watt electric motor. The battery charge is enough for quad bike rides for 5 hours.
  • For children aged 10 and over. ATVs with 2-stroke or 4-stroke engines designed to carry a heavy rider weight. Such models are practically considered adults and are equipped with a speedometer, rear-view mirrors, turn signals and other controls.

Electric children's ATVs are considered the safest because they run on electricity, not gasoline. One battery charge of an all-terrain vehicle is enough for 25-30 km of travel, which is a huge distance for a child.

For children's ATVs, there are certain recommendations regarding engine size:

  • For children from 3 to 10 years old, it is better to purchase models with 49 cm 3 engines or equipped with an electric motor.
  • For teenagers aged 10 to 16 years old, the engine size of the ATV should not exceed 90 cm 3.
  • Children aged 16 and over may drive adult ATVs.

The cost of children's ATVs is very different from the price of adult models and varies from 15 to 50 thousand rubles.

The nuances of obtaining rights to an ATV and a quadricycle

Although the mentioned vehicles are similar, they require different categories of driver's license to drive them:

  • Especially for tricycles and quadricycles, a separate category B1 has been introduced since 2013. Such vehicles were classified as motor vehicles. One of the first quadricycles is considered to be the Soviet motor vehicle S-ZD, which was popularly called a disabled woman.
  • Driving an ATV requires a category A1 driver's license - similar to that required to drive a tractor. This requirement is explained by the fact that the ATV belongs to the category of off-road self-propelled vehicles. To obtain a license, you must provide a medical certificate that allows you to drive such a vehicle.

To drive a children's ATV, a driver's license is not required, but it is worth clarifying this nuance when buying equipment. It is advisable to choose children's models in such a way as to reduce the likelihood of injury to the child and not endanger his life.

Conclusion

Despite all the similarities, ATV and ATV are completely different vehicles, even in the field of management and documentation. An ATV is classified as a self-propelled off-road vehicle, while an ATV is considered a motorized vehicle. The presence of children's models can be considered another difference between ATVs and ATVs, with which certain nuances are associated.

When choosing and buying a children's ATV, it is necessary to correctly select the engine power, since too powerful models that do not match the age of the child can lead to injury to the child. Before operation, the child must be instructed and learn the necessary traffic rules in order to prevent accidents on the road. For children, driving an ATV is a great opportunity to gain the necessary experience for later learning to drive.

Quad cycles, quadri cycles and tricycles. What are the differences?

Surely, you are already familiar with such a vehicle as ATV... It turns out that ordinary driver's licenses are not suitable for driving it. And you will learn a little about which ones are suitable. We will also talk about different types of ATVs and even mention snowmobiles.

But we will begin our excursion with a new category of vehicles "B1" - tricycles and quadricycles. These names, unlike "quad bikes", are not yet well known to us and it is extremely difficult to meet such vehicles on Russian roads.

In fact, many believe that the category "B1" allows you to drive a car with an automatic transmission. But no, this is a completely new category of transport unknown to us until recently. Although, of course, everything is relative. It’s just that the previously existing similar transport was assigned to other categories.

What is a quadricycle and a tricycle?

Quadri cycles are four-wheeled motor vehicles (tricycles - three-wheeled), intended for use on roads of a general network and subject to the traffic police in a general manner.

An example of a quadricycle is the Soviet motorized carriage SZM-S3D "Invalidka" (on the left in the figure). Some of you may remember this "misunderstanding" of Soviet engineering with a rattling motorcycle engine.

Tricycles (photo in the center) are very common in Asian countries as a cargo-passenger three-wheeled motorcycle transport (our analogue is the Ant scooter).

But a three-wheeled motorcycle can only be seen in large cities, and then if you really try. It’s just that such tricycles are found only among motorcycle aesthetes or handy kulibins.

By the way, large quadricycles are quite often called the Highway ATV, and in the West they are abbreviated gg-quad, Also Moto Quad, Quad Bikes etc.

Any of you, if you wish, can easily get at least a tricycle ... A flurry of enthusiastic and curious looks on the road is guaranteed!

An example of a commercially available tricycle is the "Roadster Spider"

Undoubtedly, modern three-wheeled vehicles look very impressive, but this miracle costs ... almost like a full-fledged car. Also, according to one of the owners, unlike two-wheeled motorcycles, you will have to stand in traffic jams on such a device no less than on a car, while comfort will be much less. Especially in inclement weather.

Roughly speaking, quadricycles are either three- or four-wheeled motorcycles, or mini cars, which require the same documents as a car or motorcycle. When buying such a vehicle, a Vehicle Passport (PTS) is attached.

What category of license is needed to drive a quadricycle and a tricycle?

Since November 5, 2013, a new category has appeared in the driver's license "B1"* - tricycles and quadricycles.

This is of course all true, but there are some important nuances in determining the category of driver's license required to drive such vehicles ...
Let's try to figure it out.

What is the difference between categories "M" - moped, "A" - moto and "B1" - three-quads?

With an unloaded mass of such a t.s. more than 400 kg, the driver must have a license with an open subcategory "B1".

And owners of light tricycles and quadricycles (with an engine capacity of not more than 50 cubic centimeters) must have a license with the category "M" ** or hold any other open category of driver's license.

__________
* - less than 550 kg for cargo transportation.

Those. tricycles and quadricycles, depending on the required categories of rights to drive them, can be conditionally divided into:

"M"- light tricycles and quadricycles (mopeds);
"A"- tricycles and quadricycles, including those included in the junior category "A1"
"IN 1"- heavy tricycles and quadricycles (more than 400 kg);

And was it worth it for the sake of a meager amount of such transport to “fence a garden”, and separate it from the rest?

The question is moot. Perhaps the time for tricycles and quadricycles has not yet come in our country ... Let's wait and see.

ATV and snowmobile rights

ATV cycles are off-road four-wheeled motor vehicles (all-terrain vehicles, snow and swamp vehicles) with a seat with a motorcycle landing and a motorcycle-type steering wheel, designed for driving off public roads.

On some ATVs, the steering wheel and driver's seat is no different from a car.

The main document of an ATV is Passport of a self-propelled vehicle (PSM). Similar passports are also issued for tractors and other construction equipment, so an ATV can be safely called a mini tractor.

An example of the Passport of a self-propelled machine.

It is necessary to register * ATVs (as well as ATVs, snow and swamp vehicles and even snowmobiles) with the Gostekhnadzor bodies and to drive them you must have the rights of a tractor driver.

To be more precise: a certificate of a tractor driver-driver (tractor driver) of the category "A1"- off-road motor vehicles.

* - for registration of a "quad bike", the owner has no more than 10 days from the moment of its acquisition; (- or before the expiration of the registration marks "Transit"). These registration periods apply to any and they are defined by paragraph 1 "Basic provisions for the admission of vehicles for operation ...". By the way, such vehicles are also required to pass inspection.

How to get a license for an ATV (snowmobile)?

A tractor driver's license for category A1 can be obtained from the age of 16. To be admitted to the exam, you need to obtain a medical certificate with a permit to drive tractors (self-propelled machines) and prepare for a qualification exam, which is conducted by employees of the Gostekhnadzor bodies.

Updated form of the Certificate of the tractor driver-machinist (tractor driver).

The exam for obtaining the rights of a tractor driver-machinist consists of theory and practice. The theory is accepted on tickets approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, and the practice takes place in two stages at a closed area (tractor track).

You can get to the practical part of the exam only after successfully passing the theory. Passed theory exam is valid for 3 months. If this deadline is missed, then before admission to the practical part, it will be necessary to successfully pass the theory again.

On first the practical stage, you need to perform the exercises:

  • start of movement from a place on the rise;
  • U-turn with a limited width of the territory with a one-time transmission;
  • setting a self-propelled machine into the box in reverse;
  • aggregation of a self-propelled machine with a trailer (trailer machine);
  • braking and stopping at various speeds, including an emergency stop;

Second the stage of the practical exam is taken on a special route in the conditions of the actual functioning of a self-propelled machine.

Repeated examinations are appointed not earlier than in 7 days. But if 3 times in a row you do not pass the practice, then at the next (4th) attempt, documents on additional training will be required from you.

An example of an ATV that requires the rights of a tractor driver "A1"

To drink or not to drink? Where to ride and where not to ride ATVs? We decided to deal with the peculiarities of the operation of ATVs on the roads of our country, so we took two types of these vehicles for a test drive at once.

In European cities, you can often find a lot of ATVs on the streets. They are used as a daily means of transportation instead of a motorcycle or scooter. Yes, it takes up a little more space on the road, but it still remains nimble and fast, while parking is less of a problem than with a car. But in our country this type of vehicle is still an expensive toy.

Structurally, all-terrain vehicles are divided into two types - UTV (utility task vehicle - utilitarian) and ATV (all-terrain vehicle - off-road). The first is also called side-by-side. That is, in it the driver and passenger sit shoulder to shoulder. The latter have a classic motorcycle fit. And the legislation of our country divides these vehicles into quadricycles and ATVs. Such is the verbal and literal passage of the legislators. One letter in the name - and such different fates.

First, let's deal with CFMoto Z8 800 EFI. It is a UTV or side-by-side by design and a quadricycle by law. term "quad bike" in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated November 25, 2010 No. 611, four-wheeled motor vehicles with automobile-type control drives and curb weight of not more than 550 kilograms were named. That is, a quadricycle is nothing more than a mini-car, with pedals, a steering wheel and a gear lever. To manage it, you need category "B" rights. Automotive-type steering means a steering wheel, a “steering wheel”. Well, since the quadricycle is allowed to live on public roads, they are equipped with all the necessary lighting devices, including direction indicators and seat belts.

If we talk about the purpose of the CFMoto Z8, then it can be described as a sports utility all-terrain vehicle. It has an aggressive design and is more like an adrenaline-pumping buggy than a workhorse. The dimensions of the body also hint that it will fit not the carcass of a wild boar, but equipment.

Despite the fact that the driver and passenger are surrounded by a strong roll cage, a helmet is needed to operate this thing. If you put your head on the frame, nothing good will happen. I didn't have a helmet, so I just promised myself to be careful. And while he was driving. The steering wheel, pedals, seat - everything is like in a conventional car, but ergonomics are far from a UTV concept, although there is an adjustment of the steering wheel and driver's seat. With my height under 190 cm, I fit back to back. Luckily there are only two pedals. The seat belt is almost racing, four-point. Instead of a door - a protective mesh. Its main purpose is to prevent you from reflexively extending your arm or leg when you roll over. All controls are in an automotive manner, except that the “turn signals” are turned on with a two-shoulder button, there is a small glove box on the front panel where the control panel for the built-in winch is stored. By the way, I didn't have to use it.

Under a small body, behind the backs of riders, there is an engine with a volume of 800 "cubes" and a solid 63 hp. The engine is V-shaped, two-cylinder, water-cooled. I didn’t have much time for a test drive, so I figured out the features of the quadricycle already on the go. The engine is started in a car manner by turning the ignition key. Quiet operation of the motor can not be called. Behind him, he rumbles so that when talking with a passenger, you have to strain your vocal cords.

Between the two seats is the transmission control lever. The positions of the lever are somewhat different from traditional automobile ones; you need to push it not towards yourself, but away from you. At first I was confused, but then I got used to it. Although the information content of the drive is not so hot, it is difficult to switch modes blindly. The lever positions are standard - P, R, N, H, L. H mode corresponds to the automobile Drive. Well, here we go. We'll figure it out along the way.

Torque from the engine to the wheels is transmitted through a V-belt variator. From a place, this almost buggy takes no worse than any other sports car. Official data claims that the CFMoto Z8 accelerates to 60 km / h in 3.2 seconds. And this is on the rear wheel drive and on a dirt road. The maximum speed is 100 km/h.

It really is primarily a projectile for getting adrenaline. The speed on a forest dirt road with pits and rifts is 60-80 km / h. Wow! The suspension of this all-terrain vehicle, like the Belarusian economy, suffers pits, dips, ups, downs, sharp turns. Engine roars, transmission howls, eyes sparkle. Thanks to the electric power steering - it is not difficult to manage a quadricycle. Only in high-speed corners should you be careful. The wheels bite into the ground, hardly slip, and the center of gravity is quite high, so there is always a risk of tipping over.

To make this thing stop going off-road, you still have to try, although it is possible. The ground clearance of the Z8 is 280 mm, the front and rear suspensions are independent, on double levers. By default, the quadricycle is rear-wheel drive, the front axle is connected rigidly by pressing a button on the front panel.

If necessary, you can lock the front differential and use a reduction gear. This arsenal is enough to climb in the most inaccessible places. Steep hills, sand, mud - everything can be overcome if you drive wisely. If crazy — that is, the front winch. Well, we still do not forget about the risk of a coup. The quadricycle does not allow the use of a common technique - the transfer of the center of mass. This is the lot of ATVs.

So I smoothly move to the study of the second type of all-terrain vehicles using the Polaris Sportsman 850 SP as an example. This, one might say, is a classic all-terrain vehicle with a motorcycle landing and a motorcycle steering wheel.

In Belarusian traffic rules, he received the term "ATV" or an all-terrain vehicle, and it does not belong to any type of vehicle that is allowed to participate in road traffic. It does not need to be registered, a driver's license is not required to drive an ATV, but you should remember that they cannot be driven on public roads. A good question arises: “Why can traffic police inspectors attract me if they stop me on an ATV on a public road?” Departure on the road on an ATV will be qualified in accordance with Part 5 of Art. 18.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses: “Untimely registration or re-registration of a vehicle, or failure to present it without a good reason within the prescribed period for a state technical inspection, or driving a vehicle that has not been duly registered or has not passed a state technical inspection, - entails a warning or a fine in the amount of 1−3 b. V. In addition, repetition has been introduced for this offense, and already for a repeated offense within a year, the offender will receive a fine of 2 to 5 bp. V."

In the head nurtured by the Soviet mentality, the question immediately arises - what if you are drunk through the woods backwards on an ATV? What will happen? Everything is simple. Although it is not required to register an ATV, it is still a vehicle. And if you are caught in a field or in a forest drunk at the wheel, Article 18.16 of the Code of Administrative Offenses comes into play, according to which “driving a vehicle by a person who is in a state of alcoholic intoxication or in a state caused by the consumption of narcotic drugs, psychotropic, toxic or other intoxicating substances or transfer of control of a transport vehicle to such a person, as well as refusal to undergo a check (examination) in accordance with the established procedure for determining the state of alcoholic intoxication or a state caused by the consumption of narcotic drugs, psychotropic, toxic or other intoxicating substances - fifteen to thirty-five basic units with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of three years.

So, I’m not allowed on public roads, but, driving along the asphalt road past the traffic police, I did not attract their attention. However, I did not try to be patient and turned into the forest at the first opportunity. Actually, all the charms of this type of vehicle are revealed there.

The Polaris Sportsman 850 SP is the ATV elite. Largely due to the special design. This model is notable for the presence of an electric power steering, which, in addition to its direct function, acts as a damper when driving through bumps. As a result, the steering wheel does not tear out of the hands when driving, for example, protruding tree roots. To be honest, I realized this fact after the trip. The transmission has three modes - rear-wheel drive, automatic all-wheel drive and all-wheel drive mode with engine braking on the descent.

Four-wheel drive here works as follows: as soon as the rear wheels start to slip, the system automatically blocks all four wheels. If the rear wheels gain traction, the transmission switches to rear-wheel drive mode. Interesting and unusual. In principle, for a touring ATV, which the Polaris Sportsman 850 SP is, this is convenient. I put the switch in the all-wheel drive mode and forgot. Electronics in a difficult situation will do everything itself. I tested it in a deep sandy ditch and was satisfied. And the truth is, you don’t have to think about which lock to enable in this or that case. Not going? We include a downshift and all-wheel drive. If it doesn’t go anyway, we get off the ATV and push, while simultaneously pressing on the gas. It is important not to stumble here.

There are two other interesting design features of the Polaris Sportsman 850 SP. The rear independent suspension uses an anti-roll bar, which is an extraordinary solution for such a technique. The 850cc engine produces 78 hp. and has balance shafts. As a result, the motor runs almost vibration-free. The contrast was especially strong after I sat on the Polaris Sportsman 850 SP after the CFMoto Z8's jittery idle. Polaris seems like just a luxury limousine. And there is no need to talk about dynamics. There is no frenzied spurt from a standstill, the ATV starts accelerating smoothly and gently, but very quickly. And at the same time, the noise from it is so small that you can communicate with the rear passenger only by slightly turning your head towards him.

Off-road tires on asphalt are extremely unsafe. Even at a low speed (about 60 km / h), the ATV starts to walk slightly along the trajectory, to slide in turns. I don't want to go fast.

But on the road - just the opposite. The Polaris Sportsman 850 SP turned out to be a very soft and flexible device, even a girl can easily handle it. A typical "tourist" on which you can withstand more than a dozen kilometers. You just need to remember that the tank here is 17 liters, and off-road an ATV with such a large and powerful engine can easily consume 30 liters per 100 km. For the rear passenger in our configuration, a comfortable chair with a back and handrails was provided. It's funny, because most of the instructions for this type of ATV say that it is better to refuse a passenger. So that.

And of course, the Polaris Sportsman 850 SP still requires much more specific skills from the driver than side-by-side. The ability to transfer the center of mass through your own body is a key technique for a quad biker.

And one of the most traumatic habits of an inexperienced rider is trying to stop a lateral rollover by putting his foot out as a stop. It usually ends with nothing but a fracture. But it is extremely difficult to overcome the instinct in oneself, but only until the first fracture.

Well, let's continue the sad topic. Price. Polaris Sportsman 850 SP costs 954,000 Russian rubles (28,760 Belarusian). The price of a well-equipped budget sedan. A little cheaper is the Chinese CFMoto Z8 - 810,000 Russian rubles (24,420 Belarusian rubles). This is a little cheaper than famous analogues, but at the same time, all sorts of useful things like a winch in Chinese technology come as standard.
