Ford Kuga specifications - engines, fuel consumption, four-wheel drive

The compact SUV Ford Kuga of the 2nd generation, which entered the Russian market in March 2013, is built on a modified platform Ford Focus 3. So, almost all the suspension elements of the crossover are "their own", at the same time, the chassis configuration is familiar: in front - MacPherson struts, behind - a multi-link. Ford engineers have endowed the Kugu with a proprietary plug-in all-wheel drive system called Active Torque Coupling. This scheme is based on a basic front drive and a rear axle coupled with a multi-plate clutch. The maximum backward is sent up to 50% of the torque, and the exact dosage is determined by the control unit, which takes into account the readings of many sensors. A feature of this 4WD system, which is also used on the Ford Explorer, is that it engages the rear axle at the moment it considers necessary, without waiting for slippage.

The range of engines of the Russian Ford Kuga, assembled in Tatarstan, has undergone changes more than once during its presence on the market. Today, the crossover has the following gasoline engines:

2.5 Duratec 150 hp, 230 Nm - a classic, time-tested "atmospheric" Japanese design.
1.6 EcoBoost 150 hp, 240 Nm - turbo engine with direct injection and phase change system on both shafts.
1.6 EcoBoost 182 hp, 240 Nm - analogue of a 150-horsepower turbo unit with other software settings. It has increased power and a wider torque range of 1600-5000 rpm (for a 150 hp engine, the upper limit is at 4000 rpm).

From the start of sales in the arsenal of the SUV there was a Duratorq 2.0 diesel unit with a return of 140 hp. and a torque of 320 Nm. Subsequently, the motor fell out of the range of available power plants.

Two types of gearboxes were assigned to the Ford Kuga engines - a 6-speed "mechanics" and a 6-band "automatic" with the factory index 6F35. The manual transmission is designed only for the "turbo four" 1.6 EcoBoost 150 hp, while the automatic is combined with any of the engines. The version with a 2.5-liter "aspirated" is available only in a front-wheel drive configuration.

In terms of fuel economy, the latest EcoBoost motors look a little more preferable. The front-wheel drive version with 6MKPP stands out especially, consuming about 6.8 l / 100 km in the combined cycle. The fuel consumption of Ford Kuga 2.5 according to the passport is 8.1 liters.
