Kia Spectra engine air filter. Air filter for KIA Spectra. Video “How to remove and replace the Kia Spectra air filter”

Budget “Koreans”, especially those from the early-mid 2000s, are chosen by many for the comparative ease of repair and maintenance. Kia Spectra, produced from 2000 to 2004 in South Korea, and subsequently until 2011 in Russia, is one of them: the car is simple enough that the owner can perform at least routine maintenance operations himself, even without special skills.

By replacing the air filter on a Kia Spectra yourself, you won’t have to waste time, and the tool set for this requires the most primitive.

How often should I replace it?

The factory regulations are traditional by modern standards: replacing the Kia Spectra air filter must be performed every maintenance, that is, once every 15,000 km or annually. The car is equipped with a filter element with a sufficiently large curtain area, so most often it is able to drain the passport resource without a significant reduction in throughput.

  • When driving in normal urban traffic without constant traffic jams, in regions with low dust levels, follow the passport regulations.
  • City traffic jams and frequent driving on dirt roads in summer can reduce the service life to 10-12 thousand kilometers.
  • In winter, when there is a minimum of dust in the air, the service life can reach up to 20 thousand, but it is still easier to carry out replacement along with other maintenance work.

Since replacing the air filter with your own hands on a Kia Spectra is simple and does not hide any nuances, there is no point in contacting a service center for this. Therefore, replacing the filter more frequently will hardly hurt your pocket, but will give you confidence that it is in good condition.

Air filter selection

The original air filter for Spectra is 0 K 2A5 13Z 40A according to the factory catalog. Its price is within 400 rubles: traditionally for Kia and Hyundai, original consumables and running parts have almost dumping prices, so purchasing a non-original one will not give you much savings.

Filters in the lower price segment will cost only 150-200 rubles cheaper (TSN 9.1.22, Filtron AP182, Blue Print ADG02223), comparable quality filters from third-party manufacturers may be even more expensive (Bosch 1987429179, Mahle LX 1818, Champion CAF100846P).

Instructions for replacing the air filter on a Kia Spectra

Replacing the air filter with your own hands is a matter of a few minutes and a simple set of tools. You will need a 10mm socket or tube, or at worst a Phillips screwdriver.

Open the hood. The air filter box is located near the glass of the left (naturally, in the direction of travel) pillar of the car.

The fastening of its cover is mixed - on the right edge, on the top and bottom, the cover is held in place by screws; on the side of the air pipe you can find a spring latch.

We turn out the screws (with a head or a screwdriver), unfasten the latch, after which the cover can be moved to the side and up without even disconnecting the pipe from it.

If the car is from the first years of production, then when you remove the cover, you should carefully look at the pipe - cracks in it that are invisible in the normal position will immediately appear under the influence of deformation, and often it is these cracks that cause an incomprehensible floating of the idle speed. You need to look especially carefully inside the folds of the corrugation - this is where cracks begin to appear.

It is enough to simply remove the filter from the lower compartment of the box; nothing holds it there. All dust and debris falling from the filter curtain remain in this compartment, and they should be removed before installing a new filter - when shaking, this dust can be carried by the air flow into the new filter, and there is no point in polluting it pointlessly.

The shape of the bottom of the air filter box is not the most convenient, but you can clean it quickly enough with a wet cloth. If you have a compressor, you can blow out the box, but you need to protect the open air duct from dust getting in there - for example, plug the pipe with a rag.

After this, all that remains is to put the new filter in place. When installing, the sealing collar must face upward; before installing the cover, you need to check whether it is in the groove of the housing along the entire perimeter - otherwise, when tightening the cover, distortions and leakage of unpurified air may occur.

Pressing the cover tightly, we tighten the screws securing it - first the top, then the bottom, and finally the right ones. You should not apply much force to the head - excessive tightening will not improve the tightness; rather, on the contrary, it will deform the air filter compartment cover, which can also cause air to leak into the intake past the filter. The last thing to put in place is the latch.

An air filter in vehicles is necessary to clean the air flow entering the car engine from dust and dirt. Therefore, its performance is very important for the car’s propulsion system, which means that the Kia Spectra is a priority during repair work.

According to the Kia manufacturer, this cleaning element must be changed every 30 thousand kilometers. However, this indicator is calculated for those vehicles that are used in urban environments on European roads. In conditions of increased dustiness on domestic roads (especially for cars driven in rural areas), the cleaning component should be changed every 10-15 thousand kilometers.

We collect everything you need

If you decide to change the air filter (hereinafter referred to as the air filter) in your car, then we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the provided instructions for replacing the element. The process itself is not labor-intensive, and even a novice car enthusiast can perform it. The most important thing is to strictly follow all the steps described in the instructions.

If you change the VF on time, then your vehicle is guaranteed:

  • increased service life of the propulsion system;
  • better car power while driving;
  • maximum efficient operation of the exhaust system;
  • significant fuel savings.

If the life of your air filter has come to an end, then you can find out about it, the main thing is to monitor the operation of your car:

  • gasoline consumption will increase;
  • at traffic lights and on turns, when the car is moving at low speeds, “traction” may disappear;
  • The car may be harder to start.

So, before changing the air filter, prepare in advance:

  • a wrench set to “10”, it will be more convenient to stock up on a socket wrench;
  • slotted screwdriver;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • new filter.

Replacement instructions

It is worth noting that removing the air filter and the air duct connected to it in the Kia Spectra is done to gain access to other devices in the engine compartment.

We proceed to directly replacing the element. In general, if you follow all the steps described, the replacement process will take no more than twenty minutes:

  • the Kia Spectra air filter is located under the hood, so first you need to open it;
  • using a screwdriver and a wrench, you need to unscrew the nut and bolt securing the air duct to the top of the radiator of your car;
  • then you need to loosen the duct hose. To do this, you need to unscrew the bolt that secures the clamp, and then move it along the pipe;
  • Now you should disconnect the sleeve from the muffler pipe;
  • in the same way, separate the air supply hose from the VF branch pipe;
  • Next, you need to remove the air duct, otherwise it will only get in the way;
  • now you need to unscrew the four bolts securing the filter element itself;
  • take a slotted screwdriver and disconnect the spring latch from the top of the VF housing;
  • then you can remove the upper plastic part of the VF housing;
  • The filter element itself opens to your gaze. Remember its location in the case;
  • then you can dismantle the engine cleaning component;
  • if necessary, you can clean the filter housing from dirt and dust, otherwise installing a new filter element simply does not make sense;
  • Now we take a new filter and install it into the housing with the same side as the old one was installed. Attention! It is important not to confuse the sides;
  • By replacing the filtration element, you can assemble everything in the reverse order.
