The start-stop button has long been popular in motorsport. With its help, you can quickly start a stalled engine without wasting precious seconds. Instead of feeling and turning the ignition key, the athlete only needs to press a button in an easily accessible place with his finger.

For city driving, these seconds are not so important. But starting the car, especially in the dark, is much more convenient with a button. Plus, along with the button, an immobilizer is installed on the car, which increases the degree of protection against theft. Therefore, the "start-stop" button on the VAZ 2107 is popular among fans of practical tuning.

How does the "start-stop" button work on a VAZ 2107

A starter relay is installed on the “seven”, which is responsible for starting the engine when the key is turned. The owners of the VAZ 2107 began to install the button for starting the engine without turning the key for a long time. It duplicated the power supply circuit of the relay from the ignition switch, acting as a backup option for starting the engine. But such a button cannot turn off the engine, so it is more appropriate to call it the “start” button.
To get a start-stop button, a much more complex scheme is required. Here is one of the working schemes of one of the Drive2 users

Modern buttons serve several functions:

  • prevention of unauthorized start-up using an immobilizer;
  • control of the gearbox position (the button will not start the car if it is not in "neutral");
  • control of pressing the brake on a car with automatic transmission (this function is not relevant for the VAZ 2107);
  • control of the clutch release on a car with a manual transmission (the car will not start if the clutch pedal is not depressed);
  • turning the ignition on and off by pressing the button.

Starting from a button can be of two options: either you need to hold the button until the engine starts, or you just need to press it, and the electronics will start the starter and turn it off itself after the car engine starts.
The latter option is more comfortable, but some prefer the first, trying to independently control the moment the engine starts.
Installation of the VAZ 2107 start-stop button is facilitated by the fact that there are ready-made electronic units on the market designed for installation in the “seven”. Thus, there is no need to delve into the intricacies of the electronics, you just need to know how to properly connect the button to the car's electrical system.

How to connect a start-stop button on a VAZ 2107

There are different variants of the block that allows you to start the “seven” from the button. Consider connecting a start-stop button on a VAZ 2107 with an immobilizer.
The kit, which can be purchased from a store or ordered online, includes:

  • immobilizer keychain - 2 pcs.;
  • immobilizer reader - 1 pc .;
  • wires and connectors;
  • Control block.

The VAZ 2107 does not have a standard limit switch on the clutch pedal. Therefore, you need to either install it (which is quite laborious), or secure the engine from accidental start in another way. You can connect the wire to the brake pedal or handbrake limit switch. The latter option is less convenient, since each time the engine is started, the car will have to be put on the parking brake. Therefore, if you do not want to install the limit switch on the clutch pedal yourself, connect the output of the control unit to the brake pedal limit switch. But it is still better to put the switch on the clutch pedal itself or the release bearing fork located at the gearbox.
Another problem that needs to be solved is preventing the steering wheel from jamming when the ignition is closed. The safest way is to simply remove it, but there is another, "lazy" and somewhat barbaric option. You can turn the key in the ignition lock so that the latter unlocks and cut it in this position.
The “start-stop” button is connected to the ignition switch itself quite simply. The wires are simply cut and reconnected to the control unit. You can find out which of the wires where to connect from the instructions for the kit. If the button is universal and is not designed for use specifically on the VAZ 2107, the wire addresses will have to be found out using a dial tone, switching the ignition switch to different positions.
Thick power wires conduct high currents and heat up in certain vehicle operating modes. If you connect them only with solder, it can melt and flow. Therefore, such wires must be connected by twisting.
When installing the start-stop button, you must strictly adhere to the manufacturer's instructions. In this case, the modification of the car will not take unnecessary efforts, and the button will work reliably, and the engine will not start at the wrong moment, even if the button is accidentally pressed.

All cars produced by AvtoVAZ have only one ignition system - by turning the key. At the same time, many global manufacturers are increasingly installing a start button instead, which allows one-touch start and stop of the engine (this option is especially often found on high-end cars).

That is why some motorists (especially those who like to tune their car) are thinking about whether a start stop button can be installed on a VAZ 2114? Immediately, we note that you can install the start button on any car. And here's how to do it correctly - we will tell you below.

Installation of the start button and its features

Before starting a conversation about mounting the entire system, it is worth noting that there are two main ways that you can go: purchase a ready-made kit and put it on, or you can assemble everything yourself.

The easiest option is the first. It allows you to install a button even with minimal skills. You can buy such an engine start kit in many online stores, but it is best to order it directly from China (for example, from Ali - its cost there is about $ 30-40). Sometimes a similar product is found in car dealerships, but quite rarely.

It is not recommended to purchase the cheapest engine start system with a button - it is not recommended, since it is of poor workmanship and can quickly fail. It is better to choose a product from the middle price category.

The system can be installed in two ways - either there will be only the start stop button of the VAZ 2114 in the car, or there will also be a native ignition with a key. The first option is much preferable, and even simpler - the ignition lock is simply removed and the start button is inserted in its place. How to properly connect it to the electronic system is indicated on the instructions attached to it.

It is for this reason that it is impossible to give any precise recommendations for connection. For each start button, it is individual (some of them may have a connection to the alarm and other electronic systems, and some may not). Therefore, the most important advice is to strictly follow the attached instructions.

When purchasing a digger from Chinese online markets, it is important to carefully study its description and name. It is desirable that the phrases car alarm and centrallock are present in it - this will allow you to connect the ignition with the alarm and the central lock.

The newly installed system works in the following order:

  • first pressing of the button - turning on the power supply without starting the engine;
  • second press - ignition on;
  • third - turning off the ignition;
  • first pressing while pressing the brake pedal - starting the engine.

DIY start button

If you want to save money or just want to make a start button yourself, then you can use the following method.

First you need to purchase:

  • engine start / stop button - its cost is about $ 5;
  • relay with four contacts, normally open;
  • relay with five contacts, normally closed;
  • relay for fog lights (rear);
  • terminals and wires.

First, we connect the fog lamp relay as follows:

  1. 1 contact - we connect to the "plus" of the battery.
  2. 2 contact - do not connect anywhere (since it has a jumper with the first contact).
  3. Contact 3 - connect to ground.
  4. 4 contact - we connect the ignition pads to the blue wire.
  5. 5 pin - connect to the start button.
  6. 6 contact - we do not connect anywhere.

Further installation of the start-stop button on the VAZ 2114 is carried out according to the following scheme:

As you can see, the homemade start / start button has three points of connection with the system:

  • with brake pedal limit switch;
  • with a starter blocking wire that turns it off after starting the engine;
  • with ignition block.

The button connected in this way will operate in the following mode: if the engine is turned off and the brake pedal is pressed, the first press starts the engine, and the second turns off the engine. When the brake pedal is released and the engine is off, the first press turns on the ignition system, and the second turns it off. When the engine is running, pressing the button turns it off.

Useful video

For more information, see the video below:

In older cars, often the wires from the starter itself are connected directly to the contacts inside the contact group, which are closed when the ignition key is turned.
When the starter is triggered, a very large amount of energy is consumed, which means that a large current flows (contacts beat a spark). Over time, a deposit from burning forms on the contacts or they burn out altogether, no longer providing reliable contact.
In newer cars, a separate relay is installed that closes the starter contacts when the ignition key is turned.

The main advantages of using a relay in the starter power circuit:

Such a system is more reliable since the relay is designed for high currents and lives much longer.
- The relay can always be replaced
- The contact group behind the ignition key works for a very long time, since it includes only a relay that takes the main load on itself.

Regardless of whether your starter switches on the relay or directly the contact group, all operations to connect the starter are still performed by turning the key.

First you need to determine which contacts are responsible for the start and bring them to the start button.

To do this, you need to disassemble the plastic protection under the steering wheel of your car.
Very often, a connector with all the necessary wires is connected to the back of the contact group of the key well.
There must be locking tabs on both sides of this connector. You need to press on them and pull out the connector.

If you have an old car, looking at the terminal block connector you will most likely find the two thickest wires. Very often one of them is red - these wires are directly connected to the starter. If you connect them with the ignition key turned, chances are your starter motor will start spinning.

Then you can go the easy way. You can simply install the button and lead these two wires to it, placing the button in a convenient place for you. The button should be non-latching, that is, when pressed, close the contacts, and immediately after you release it, open it.

Do not forget that you will operate the button in the same way as with the key. Press the button, wait for the starter to spin up, and as soon as the engine starts, release the button.

But do not forget that very large currents will pass through the button and most likely such a button will burn out.

We used a vandal-proof chrome-plated button - it was out of order after about half a year.

Vandal-proof chrome-plated metal button designed for high currents

If you have a newer car and the starter in it is connected using a relay, you will need to find among the many wires exactly those that are responsible for controlling the relay.

To do this, you can call the tester in the resistance measurement mode to all the wires to the car body. All wires that ring out - mark as mass (or minus), since they are all shorted to the case.

We need to find a wire on which 12 volts appears exactly at the moment the key is turned, that is, when your starter starts spinning.

If you find this contact, you need to check how the system works.

Find some kind of contact on which there is always 12 volts relative to the mass.

Turn the ignition key to ignition mode (starter must be off)

Check again the wire you found:

* check that it does not ring with mass, is not short-circuited with the case,

* check that voltage appears on it when the key is turned to the starter activation mode

Now try with a separate wire to connect the wire that you found with the point above to connect to the wire on which there is always 12 volts.

If, after connecting, your starter scrolled, then you found the wires that connect when you turn the key so that the starter will scroll.

This concludes your work. You just need to bring these wires to a place convenient for you on the dashboard and connect a button to them.

If your car is an old model, you are best off installing a separate relay to turn on the starter and close only the relay contacts, and this, in turn, will connect the sterter contacts.

A standard VAZ 30 Amp relay has four contacts. Two of them are responsible for the coil that connects the contacts of the main line.

You can see which contacts are responsible for what on the relay case, or you can open it and see how it works.

Oddly enough, absolutely no difference where to connect + (plus) and where - (minus) on the contacts of the relay coil - in any case, it attracts the desired contact and connects the line.

That is why you can use the positive contact with 12 Volts already connected to the relay. It can be connected with a coil contact. Accordingly, close the second contact to ground through the button.

It is these two wires
- minus (weight)
- the second contact of the coil
you need to bring it out in a place convenient for you and connect the button to them.

The remaining relay contacts for the main line must be connected to the wires on the contact group that connect the starter.

Do not forget about high power when connecting these wires. The wires must be very thick and the connections very secure.

The wires can be directly soldered to the relay contacts, but this will most likely be a mistake, since it will be quite difficult to replace it later. In our case, when the contacts were heated with a soldering iron, they melted the plastic case of the relay and shifted, closing the contacts inside the relay.

Your best bet is to find a remote connector for these relays, which is sold separately. Unfortunately, it does not please either with its reliability or quality of performance.

The wires on the connector pins are very thin and very difficult to hold. We recommend that you remove each pin and solder heavy duty wires to them.

For convenient connection, screw terminals can be attached to the wires.

The relay is best placed in the place where it will be convenient for you to get to it later to replace or check the operation of the system.

Remember that you do all the above actions at your own peril and risk, we do not recommend that you take on such complex electrical work if you do not have the skills in electrical engineering.
We wish you the best in all your endeavors.

In modern cars, more and more often you can find a solution that allows you to start the engine by simply pressing the Start Engine button. The presence of such an option means that there is no need to use the ignition key, the procedure for starting the engine itself becomes simpler and more convenient.

Today, the button for starting the engine (starter button) can be installed in almost any car that is not equipped with the ability to start the engine without a key in the ignition lock. Next, we will talk about what pros and cons the car owner gets after installing the engine start button, and also consider the most common schemes and methods for self-installing the engine start button.

Keyless engine start button

It is quite obvious that a starter button in a car enhances the usability of the vehicle. The standard versions require a mandatory combination of such a Push-Start button with the possibility of Key-Less-Go keyless access. This combination eliminates the need for the owner to use the usual ignition key by replacing it with a so-called electronic key.

Without going into details, the electronic key is a mark by which the owner is identified by anti-theft and other vehicle systems after approaching the vehicle at a certain distance. As for the start button, it will only work if the electronic key is inside the car.

In practice, it looks like this:

  • the owner of the electronic key approaches the car;
  • at a certain distance, the car systems recognize the owner by exchanging signals with an electronic key-tag;
  • then the owner presses a button on the electronic key or just comes close to the car;
  • after that, the door locks are unlocked;
  • the driver sits in a seat and presses the engine start button;

It turns out that the owner uses the electronic key only for the forced opening and closing of the car doors. All other actions are performed by the keyless entry and start system in automatic mode. Now let's talk about self-installation of the Start-Stop Engine button.

Popular ways to install the starter button

To begin with, many car owners are attracted by the very possibility of starting and stopping the engine from the button, that is, not using the ignition key in the lock. In parallel, no additional implementation of the keyless entry system is envisaged. It should be noted that in the case of such an installation scheme, comfort increases, but safety suffers. The fact is that after intruders enter the car's interior, the engine start button is not blocked by anything, since there are no systems that identify the owner.

Considering the above, it is recommended to equip the car with an additional immobilizer or other solutions that prevent unauthorized engine starting. It should also be noted that self-installation of the engine start button often leads to an increase in the load on the starter. As a result, the resource of this element may be reduced. We add that the improper installation of the engine start button with your own hands can be performed according to different schemes, taking into account the wishes of the owner, the characteristics of a particular car, etc.

  1. One of the simplest installation options is the starter button, which involves the parallel use of the ignition switch. With this installation scheme, the ignition is turned on with the key in the lock, and the engine itself is then started from the button. Note that this method has more disadvantages than advantages, since the presence of a start-stop button still does not provide the required degree of ease of use.
  2. Another type of setting for starting the engine from the button is the ability to start the internal combustion engine with the gas pedal pressed for models with automatic transmission and the clutch pedal for vehicles with manual transmission. This scheme assumes turning on the ignition from the Start-Stop button, while the engine is started immediately after pressing the gas or clutch pedal.
  3. It should also be mentioned about the method of starting the engine from the starter button, provided that the brake pedal is pressed in parallel. The convenience of this solution is questioned by many, especially if the car suddenly stalls in the stream. We add that the combination of the start-stop button with the gas, brake or clutch pedals in various schemes will require the installation of a separate sensor on the engaged pedal.
  4. The installation of a delayed engine start button deserves special attention. This method of abnormal installation has the least detrimental effect on the starter. The downside is the complexity of installation, which requires contacting professionals and making a number of changes to various auto systems.

It turns out that the available installation methods can be roughly divided into the following:

  • the engine start button activates only the ignition, the start itself is carried out after pressing the brake, gas or clutch pedal;
  • the start-stop button allows you to both turn on the ignition and start the engine;
  • full installation of the engine start system from the button in combination with the installation of a keyless entry system in the car;

The latter method is the most optimal and the most expensive, since together with the "Start Engine" button, the system receives an electronic key and interacts with door openers, a security car alarm module, etc.

Self-installation of the engine start button

To better understand the issue, it is necessary to superficially consider the standard process of starting the engine on cars that are equipped with a simple ignition switch from the factory. In such cars, the power wires from the starter are connected to the contact group of the ignition switch. After turning the key in the lock, the contacts are closed. This solution is found on older car models. The fact is that a large current passes through the contacts, which leads to rapid burnout.

For this reason, more modern versions have a separate relay. The task of such a relay is to accept the entire load on itself and close the contacts after turning the key in the ignition lock. The ability of the relay to cope with a high load, as well as the ease of replacing this element in the event of its failure, allows us to talk about the reliability of the system. As a result, the service life of the contact group has increased significantly.

To connect the engine start button, it is necessary to determine exactly which contacts are responsible for closing the power supply to the starter, which allows you to scroll with the starter from the button and start the engine, as well as stop the power unit by opening the contacts. These contacts are connected to the engine start button or other elements (depending on the installation scheme), allowing you to completely do without a key in the ignition lock.

Please note that this manual is not an accurate diagram for installing the engine start button and is for informational purposes only! If you do not have sufficient experience with electrical equipment, then it is recommended to completely refrain from such actions. Remember, mistakes during connection can lead to a short circuit in the vehicle's on-board network, malfunctions or failure of electrical equipment, fire and other consequences.

The engine start button works in such a way that the driver presses it and holds the required time to start. During this period of time, the starter rotates the crankshaft, as a result, the internal combustion engine is started. Then the button can be released.

Note that when choosing a start-stop engine start button, a number of certain nuances should be taken into account. One of these points is the issue of fixing this button. The best option is when, after pressing, the contacts are closed, and after releasing, they open. If the button is latched, then after starting the engine to open the contacts, you will need to quickly press it again.

As for the button itself, there are many available solutions on free sale that differ in quality, price and other characteristics. These buttons can be backlit, made of plastic or metal.

For these reasons, when choosing, it is worth considering:

  • a strong current will be supplied to the button;
  • the solution will be constantly used;

Taking into account such operating features, it is better to choose a motor start button with a high-quality outer coating (for example, chrome plating). Such an article will have abrasion resistance to maintain an acceptable appearance. You also need to understand that cheap offers can burn out after just a few clicks, so this aspect should be given special attention.

Why the starter may not work after turning the key in the ignition lock. The main causes of starter malfunctions: bendix, traction relay, brushes, winding.

In many car models of the latest releases, in order to start the engine, a button is used instead of the usual key. How much better and more convenient it is - everyone determines in accordance with their preferences. The emergence of such a novelty made many drivers want to install an engine start from a button on their old cars. Therefore, it will be quite appropriate to consider how the ignition and engine start system can be redone in accordance with new trends.

Why is this needed?

The reasons can be very diverse:

  • changed (simplified) process of starting the motor;
  • reducing the number of items in pockets;
  • desire to stand out and many others.

It is best to try to figure out why such a desire arises, leave it aside and understand how to install a button to start the engine (in the further text it can be referred to as Start-Stop Engine or SSE for short).

Engine start system with a button, options for its implementation

It should be noted right away that there are a lot of options for connecting a button. This is due to the fact that such a system can be built taking into account a variety of initial conditions. As an example, below are some options for how to install such an element, possible algorithms for the operation of the Start-Stop Engine and the components used in this case. Which of them to choose is up to you. If the level of knowledge of electronics and circuits is large enough, you can make your own on the basis of any of the options, you just need to understand the principle.

How the ignition key can be used:

  1. the key is inserted into the lock, set to position I, and then, after pressing the button, the engine starts (the key allows you to remove the steering wheel lock, which is available on many cars of the VAZ family);
  2. the key is not used at all, got into the car - pressed Start-Stop Engine, and the engine started.
  3. What buttons can be used, their installation, wiring diagram:
  4. without fixing, in this case it must be pressed and held until the motor starts;
  5. with fixation, pressed and released, the start of stable operation of the motor will be determined by the electronics and will turn off the starter.

How the ignition system works:

  • its start is performed separately from starting the engine (when you press Start-Stop Engine - the ignition is turned on, then you press the brake or clutch again - the engine starts);
  • the ignition starts to work simultaneously with the start of the engine;
  • various interlocks of the Start-Stop Engine and ignition are performed, including (the interlocking circuit can provide for the use of a signal from the burglar alarm, an open door sensor, the inclusion of dimensions, etc.).

These are just some of the possible options and algorithms that allow you to start the engine without a key in the car lock.

How to make this launch possible

For example, several options for implementing such an idea are considered below. It is worth considering that when starting such an upgrade, you need to understand and understand what and how to do, because you perform all the manipulations at your own peril and risk. In the event that in the process of work there are doubts about the correctness of the actions, you should seek advice from a specialist (auto electrician).

The scheme of starting the engine with a button using a key

There are a significant number of differing options for implementing this approach. For example, the diagram below.

And below is the diagram for connecting the relay to the ignition switch

Everything works very simply. The key is inserted into the lock and turned. Then the button is pressed and held until the motor starts. To turn off the entire system, simply turn the key to its original position. With this option, all functions of the ignition switch and immobilizer are retained.

Such a scheme is quite simple and primitive; it can be performed by any car enthusiast. There are much more complex implementation options, but their implementation will require the use of additional elements, and this can be done by a person trained in the field of electronics.

Installing the engine start button without the ignition key

This is a more complex option that allows you to start the engine using a button, with this approach, for example, RZPTF (rear fog lamp relay) is used. Its inclusion is shown in the diagram shown in the figure:

An added benefit is connecting the power supply to the alarm. In this case, the operation algorithm will be as follows:

  1. the car is removed from the alarm, power is supplied to contact 1 of the RZPTF, the backlight comes on;
  2. the button is pressed and held - the ignition and starter relays are turned on, the starter starts to spin;
  3. the button is held until the engine starts, then it is released, the starter relay turns off, the motor continues to work;
  4. pressing it again stops the engine;
  5. after installing the car on the alarm, the backlight goes out.

This is one of the possible ways to implement such a launch system. In the process of such a start-up, other elements can also be used. For example, the engine will start when the clutch or brake is pressed, everything will be determined by the given starting algorithm.

Implementation of the idea to start the engine using a button instead of a key is possible on any car. In this case, a completely arbitrary one can be used, only your algorithm of action. The decision on how the engine will start - with a button or with an ignition key - is a matter of personal choice, and the skill of the person who will undertake the refinement of the ignition system.
