The volume of antifreeze uaz patriot zmz 409. What antifreeze or antifreeze can be poured into the UAZ cooling system, types, composition and compatibility of antifreeze and antifreeze, replacement interval. The filling volume of the cooling system of UAZ vehicles

Each car is equipped with a cooling system, which protects the engine from overheating. A malfunction of the cooling system or the absence of coolant in the car entails the most unpleasant consequences, therefore it is important to know how much fluid needs to be poured onto the UAZ Patriot SUV, as well as how it is drained and replaced. Consider these and many other issues in this material.

Previously, automobiles used water or distilled water in the cooling system. Unfortunately, the use of ordinary water leads to unpleasant consequences, in particular, its freezing in the system entails serious damage. Coolant called antifreeze or antifreeze is poured into the UAZ Patriot SUV, as indicated in the manual for the vehicle. It is antifreeze and antifreeze that are those liquid substances, which include many different substances that ensure non-freezing at subzero temperatures, and at the same time stable heat removal from the car engine to the radiator.

The radiator, in turn, is a container that cools the incoming liquid with an air flow. Thus, the coolant circulates through the system, thereby removing heat from the engine and protecting it from overheating. If the engine overheats, it will jam, therefore, on all cars, including an SUV, there is a temperature gauge in the cabin on the instrument panel. When the temperature rises above 100 degrees Celsius, you should immediately stop and find the cause of this phenomenon.

Replacement features

Probably more than once every driver wondered how often it is necessary to change the coolant? Just like all fluids in a car, antifreeze and antifreeze must be replaced, since over time they lose their original properties and can malfunction. It is recommended to change the coolant on an SUV every 60,000 km. Such a replacement is recommended in order to avoid clogging of the channels, so we will consider what this process is.

Before proceeding with the replacement, you must purchase an SUV coolant. There are a lot of types of coolant and which product to give preference to is the right of everyone. But, of course, it is not recommended to purchase the most budgetary options, since they, most likely, contain cheap types of thinners in their composition. How much antifreeze is needed for an UAZ Patriot SUV? The amount of coolant in the UAZ Patriot system is 12 liters, but when replacing it is not always possible to drain all the liquid completely. Therefore, it is better to purchase a 10-liter canister, and then buy another liter - two, if the need arises. Often, drivers are faced with a problem when replacing antifreeze leads to the fact that only 5 liters can fit into the system. In fact, during the filling of the coolant, air locks are created, limiting the complete filling of the system. Therefore, we will consider how the coolant is replaced correctly and what you need to know.

Replacement

Replacing antifreeze on the Patriot is not particularly difficult, but it is important to follow the sequence. Of the replacement tools, you only need a "14" spanner. The replacement process is as follows:

The cooling system is filled year-round with a mixture of water and antifreeze with an anti-corrosion additive from the VW / SEAT concern. This mixture prevents freezing and corrosion of the cooling system, salt deposits and, in addition, increases the boiling point of the coolant. In the circulation loop, as a result of the expansion of the liquid during heating, an increased pressure is created, which also contributes to an increase in the boiling point of the coolant. The pressure is limited by a valve in the expansion tank lid that opens at a pressure of 1.4 to 1.6 bar. For the engine cooling system to function properly, a high boiling point of the coolant is required. If the boiling point is too low, vapor lock may form, which will impair engine cooling. Therefore, the cooling system must be filled with a mixture of water and antifreeze all year round.

It is necessary to use antifreeze G12 Plus (lilac color, exact designation G 012 A8F) or another concentrate marked "in accordance with VW / SEAT-TL-VW-774-F", for example, Glysantin-Alu-Protect-Premium / G30.

If the cooling system is filled with a mixture containing G12 antifreeze (red, exact designation G 012 A8D), then to replenish the coolant level, you can also use red G12 antifreeze or another concentrate marked “in accordance with VW / AUDI-TL-VW- 774-D ", for example Glysantin-Alu-Protect / G30. Note: G12 purple can be mixed with G12 red.

Caution: Do not mix red G12 antifreeze and older green G11 antifreeze as this can cause very severe engine damage. The brown coolant (the result of mixing G12 and G11 antifreezes] must be replaced immediately.

Indication: If an incorrect specification of antifreeze fluid accidentally appears in the cooling system, the system must be flushed. To do this, all liquid from the cooling system must be completely drained and the system must be filled with clean water. Let the engine idle for two minutes. Drain the water again and blow out the system from the side of the expansion tank with compressed air to empty it completely. Tighten the drain plug and fill the cooling system with a mixture of water and G12-Plus antifreeze.

Attention: To replenish the cooling system (also in warm seasons), only use a mixture of G12-Plus (lilac color) with soft clean water. The proportion of antifreeze should not be lower than 40% also in summer. antifreeze should always be added with water.

In our latitudes, the coolant must provide frost protection down to -25 ° C, and even better - down to -35 ° C. The proportion of antifreeze must not exceed 60% (protection against freezing of the coolant down to -40 ° C), otherwise the protection against freezing and the cooling effect of the liquid will be reduced. Note: depending on the vehicle equipment, the amount of coolant to be poured in may slightly differ from the values indicated in the table

When buying, you need to know the shade - Colour and Type of antifreeze approved for the year of manufacture of your Patriot. Select the manufacturer at your discretion. Do not forget - each type of fluid has its own service life.
For example: for UAZ Patriot (1st generation) 2013 onwards, with a gasoline or diesel engine type, lobrid antifreeze class, type G12 ++ with shades of red is suitable. The approximate next replacement time is 7 years. If possible, check the selected fluid against the vehicle manufacturer's specifications and service intervals. It's important to know Each type of liquid has its own color. There are rare cases when a type is tinted with a different color.
The color of red antifreeze can be from purple to light pink (green and yellow have the same principles).
Mix liquid from different manufacturers - can if their types match the mixing conditions. G11 can be mixed with G11 analogues G11 cannot be mixed with G12 G11 can be mixed G12 + G11 can be mixed G12 ++ G11 can be mixed G13 G12 can be mixed with G12 analogues G12 cannot be mixed with G11 G12 can be mixed with G12 + G12 cannot be mixed with G12 ++ G12 cannot be mixed with G13 G12 +, G12 ++ and G13 can be mixed with each other Mixing of Antifreeze with Antifreeze is not allowed. No way! Antifreeze and Antifreeze are very different in quality. Antifreeze is the trade name of the traditional type (TL) of the old-style coolant. At the end of its service life, the liquid completely discolours or becomes very dull. Before changing one type of fluid to another, flush the car's radiator with plain water.

To perform a complete replacement of antifreeze in a UAZ Patriot car, it is not at all necessary to contact a specialist. This operation is one of the simplest actions that a car owner can perform in order to maintain his car. Let's figure out what kind of antifreeze there are, which one is right for your car and how to replace it with your own hands.

What is the best refrigerant for UAZ Patriot?

Modern antifreezes are made on the basis of ethylene and propylene glycol, water and various protective additives. Their composition has not changed much since the time of invention. At the moment, there is no universal classification of coolants for cars. Most refrigerant manufacturers try to follow the general trends and standards, modifying the composition of the fluids at their discretion.

However, it should be noted that most fluids belong to one of the following categories in terms of the composition of anti-corrosion and protective additives:

  • traditional antifreeze. They were among the first to appear. Contains additives of inorganic origin. The service life of such antifreezes is short and rarely exceeds 2 years. One of the controversial properties is the ability to form a thick layer of oxide film in the system, which interferes with high-quality heat removal.
  • carboxylate antifreeze. More reliable than traditional ones. The main difference from the latter is that they contain organic-based additives with the addition of carboxylate acid salts. Such antifreezes do not cover the entire system with a protective film, but only those places where corrosion begins. At the same time, the thickness of the protective film does not exceed 0.1 micron, which has a beneficial effect on the heat-dissipating functions of the system. The lifespan of such antifreezes has been increased to 5 years. However, they also have drawbacks: such a liquid does not resist cavitation processes very well, and carboxylic acid salts soften the tubes, increasing the risk of leakage.
  • hybrid antifreezes were created precisely because of the imperfection of carboxylates. They use both organic and inorganic additives in different proportions, which allows you to create coolants with different properties and qualities.
  • low hybrid antifreezes were created at the beginning of this century as unique substitutes for hybrid ones. They use organic additives with minimal addition of inorganic ones. The correct composition allows you to achieve good working results and increases the service life of the antifreeze up to 500 thousand km without changing.

Antifreezes are called domestically produced antifreezes. The name of the original liquid, developed in the 70s, comes from the abbreviation "Technology of organic synthesis" and the prefix "OL", denoting a chemical belonging to alcohols. Since the name was not patented, it became a household name for domestic antifreezes. It is also worth noting that most of the antifreezes belong to the G11 mineral antifreezes, which we will discuss below.

Although there is no international classification for automotive coolants, it has become popular to use the internal classification developed by the Volkswagen Audi Group. According to her data, all modern antifreezes can be divided into three groups:

  • G11 - Mineral.
    Color: blue / green.
    The most common and cheapest. The package of inorganic additives includes sillicates that cover the entire system with a thick protective layer that protects against corrosion (see: traditional antifreezes). Most of the antifreezes belong to this group.
  • G12 / G12 + - Organic.
    Color: red.
    More expensive and better quality than the G11. Contains organic additives with carboxylate compounds that protect the system from corrosion pointwise (see: carboxylate antifreezes).
  • G12 ++ / G13 - Lobrids.
    Color: yellow / orange.
    Most expensive and least common. At the same time, the highest quality. Made on the basis of propylene glycol (unlike the previous ones, ethylene glycol). They are absolutely harmless and environmentally friendly.

According to the manufacturer's recommendations, refrigerants should be used in the UAZ Patriot car ОЖ-40, ОЖ-65 "Lena", TOSOL A-40M, TOSOL A-65M,ОЖ-40 and ОЖ-65 TOSOL-TS... However, this recommendation is optional. The use of any other antifreeze will not damage the car's cooling system, if, of course, its quality is high enough, and if it is not mixed with coolant of other brands and properties.

Remember! In no case should you mix or add antifreezes and antifreezes of different brands to the system!

Coolant replacement process

At the UAZ Patriot, the coolant is replaced in several stages. There is some preparation before the replacement process.

First of all, to replace the coolant, it is necessary that the machine stands on a straight and level surface. It is advisable to drive the car into a viewing hole or overpass.

The car engine must be cooled down. When the engine is hot, the temperature of the antifreeze is high enough to cause severe burns. Not to mention, most antifreeze fumes are extremely toxic.

To carry out a full replacement of the coolant, you will need:

  • about 12 liters of antifreeze;
  • not less than 20 liters of distilled water;
  • liquid for flushing the cooling system (you can use artisanal methods, recipes for which can be found on the Internet);
  • a set of wrenches with heads of different sizes;
  • container for draining old fluid with a volume of at least 10 liters.

The whole process can be divided into three stages: draining the old fluid, flushing the system, filling with new coolant.

First step

Draining old antifreeze:

  1. Remove the engine shield. In principle, replacement can be done without dismantling, however, in this case, inconveniences arise when draining.
  2. Open the cover of the expansion tank. This will release the pressure in the system. Be careful if the coolant is hot, steam escaping from the reservoir under pressure can cause burns and damage to the eyes and respiratory tract!
  3. The cooling radiator is located under the hood on the right side (in the direction of the vehicle). There is a drain hole at the bottom of the radiator. Place a container for collecting liquid under it and unscrew the hole plug with a suitable wrench.
  4. Wait for the coolant to drain from the radiator.
  5. Next, we drain the fluid from the engine block. It can be equipped with both a liquid drain cock and a simple plug. Drain the liquid from the unit into a container.
    When replacing the ZMZ 409 UAZ Patriot coolant, the total volume of the drained fluid should be approximately 12 liters.

Second phase

The cooling system is flushed as follows:

  1. Leave the drain holes of the radiator and cylinder block open.
  2. Fill the expansion tank with about 5-7 liters of distilled water.
  3. The liquid will pass through the system and will merge by gravity into the container, washing out some of the foreign debris from the system. Wait until it is completely drained.
  4. Screw the drain plugs back.
  5. Fill the system through the expansion tank with 2-3 liters of cleaning fluid. Then fill it up to the minimum level mark with distilled water.
  6. Close the reservoir cap and start the engine.
  7. Warm up the car engine to the temperature at which the radiator fan will start working.
  8. Then turn off the machine and drain everything from the system into a container.
  9. Flush the system 1 - 2 more times with distillate as you did in step # 2.

Third stage

Fill new coolant into the cooling system:

  1. Prepare the mixture. The coolant is mixed with distilled water in a certain proportion, depending on the operating conditions of the vehicle and the environment. The proportions depend on the properties of the mixture to freeze or boil at certain temperatures. In general terms, the higher the percentage of antifreeze in the mixture, the more extreme conditions it will withstand. The recommended proportion is usually written on the coolant label.
  2. Make sure that the drain holes on the cylinder block and the cooling radiator are tightly closed.
  3. Pour the mixture into the expansion tank of the car until the fluid level reaches the MINIMUM mark.
  4. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
  5. Add the required amount of coolant (up to the MAXIMUM mark) into the expansion tank.
  6. Close the reservoir cap and refit the engine shield.

According to the regulations, the replacement of the refrigerant in the UAZ Patriot must be carried out every 2-3 years or 20-30 thousand kilometers. However, this largely depends on the quality of the liquid you are using. Fluids of categories G12 and G13 can easily withstand an operating life of 5-7 years and distances of 250-300 thousand km.
