Troparion to the Theotokos, tone 4

Now diligently to the Theotokos, we are sinners and humility, and we fall down, calling in repentance from the depths of our souls: Lady, help us, having mercy on us, we are perishing from many sins, do not turn away Your servants of vanity, You and the only hope of the imam. (Twice) Glory, and now: We will never be silent, O Mother of God, to speak unworthy of Your strength: otherwise You would not be praying, who would save us from so many troubles, who would keep us free until now? We will not retreat, O Lady, from Thee: for Thy servants save forever from all kinds of fierce ones. Now let us diligently resort to the Theotokos / we, sinners and humble ones, and fall down to Her, / crying out from the depths of our souls in repentance: / “Mistress, help, having pity on us, / hasten, we are perishing from many sins! / Do not let Your servants go empty-handed: / for in You we have our only hope!” (Twice)

Glory, and now: We, the unworthy, will never stop / proclaiming about Your power, Mother of God, / for if You had not protected us with Your prayers, / who would have delivered us from so many troubles, / who would have kept us free until now? / We will not retreat, Mistress, from You, / for You always save Your servants from all kinds of disasters.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. First of all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you; as if you were justified in your words, and conquered the judgment of Ty. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Give joy and joy to my hearing; the bones of the humble shall rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me. Restore to the world the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue shall rejoice in thy righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. Sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; a contrite and humble heart God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, an offering and a burnt offering; then they will lay calves on your altar. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, blot out my iniquity; wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me. I have sinned against you, the only one, and done evil before you, so that you may be justified in your words and overcome if they enter judgment with you. For behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins my mother bore me. For, behold, you have loved the truth, the hidden and secret wisdom of yours has revealed to me. You will sprinkle me with hyssop and I will be cleansed; wash me and I will be whiter than snow, let me hear joy and gladness, the bones of the humble will rejoice.
Turn Your face away from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a Right Spirit within me. Take me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the transgressors Your ways, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation, my tongue shall rejoice in thy righteousness. Lord, You will open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim Your praise. For if You were willing to sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with burnt offerings. Sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; God will not despise the heart of the contrite and humble. Benefit, O Lord, in Thy good pleasure Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be erected, then you will favorably accept the sacrifice of righteousness, the offering and burnt offerings, then they will offer calves on your altar.

In the canons, the refrain as a prayer appeal is pronounced before the first and second (and third, when it is) troparion of each song, but is not read before the troparia, beginning with “Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” and “Now and ever and forever and ever . Amen".

The beginning of the canons is common.

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

King of Heaven, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times.)

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Lord, have mercy (thrice). Glory, and now:

Our Father, Thou art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in Heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Troparion, tone 6:

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, bewildering any answer, this prayer, as the Lord, we bring sins, have mercy on us.

Glory: Lord, have mercy on us, trust in Thee, do not be angry with us, remember our iniquities below, but look now, as if you are Graceful, and deliver us from our enemies, Thou art our God, and we are Thy people, all work a hand Thy name, and we call on Thy name.

And now: Open the doors of mercy to us, Blessed Mother of God, who hope in You, let us not perish, but let us be delivered from troubles by You, for You are the salvation of the Christian race.

Lord have mercy, (12 times). Glory, and now:

Come, let us worship the King our God.

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, the King of our God.

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ Himself, the King and our God.

Also Psalm 50:

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies cleanse my iniquity. First of all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. As I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against Thee alone, and done evil before Thee, as if You were justified in Your words and conquered, when You judge. Behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins my mother gave birth to me. Behold, thou hast loved the truth, thou hast revealed unto me Thy obscure and secret wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Give joy and gladness to my ears, the bones of the humble will rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation, and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation, my tongue shall rejoice in Thy righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them badly, you do not favor burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humble heart, God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy good will Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then thou shalt please the sacrifice of righteousness, the high offering and the burnt offering, then they will offer bullocks on Your altar.

Canon, Tone 6

Canto 1

Irmos: As if Israel had walked on dry land, in the footsteps of the abyss, seeing the persecutor of Pharaoh being drowned, we sing a song of victory to God, crying out.

I sob all my filthy life, and many of my immeasurable evils: what shall we confess, Pure, I am perplexed and horrified: but help me, the Lady.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Where will I begin to speak, my crafty and fierce fall, passionate Az; alas for me that I will be the rest; but Lady, before the end, have mercy on me.

Glory: This is the hour of death, and I always think of a terrible judgement, Most Pure One, but by custom I am seduced by the all-evil fierce: but help me.

And now: Good decayer, looking at me now naked of Divine virtues, and far apostatized and alienated from God, rushes to devour me: Mistress, anticipate.

Canto 3

Irmos: Nothing is holy, like You, O Lord my God, who lifted up the horn of Your faithful, O Blessed One, and established us on the rock of Your confession.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

My passionate soul, Our Lady of the Mother of God, was scorched badly from my immeasurable evils: and whatever else I’ll go, I’m all obsessed with despair.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

And a hedgehog in the image, scorched himself, Pure, and in the likeness: in deed, and in word, and in thought, the deeds are unplaced.

Glory: There is no other in men, having done something unlike, nor be born in the world, as if I, Good, are darkened in mind: for the baptism of the Divine is defiling.

And now: At the end, the evil ones have reached, Blessed Virgin, help me soon: heaven and earth cry out to the mountaineer, from placeless deeds incomparable.

Canto 4

Irmos: Christ is my strength, God and Lord, the honest Church sings divinely, crying out from the pure meaning, celebrating in the Lord.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

The ranks of angels, and the armies of the heavenly forces, your Son are horrified by the powers, Pure: now, having despaired, I am possessed by fearlessness.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

The whole earth was surprised and horrified by seeing, fierce and evil to those who create me, and placeless: and your Son seems to have much mercy.

Glory: Having defiled the evil bodily Church, and the Church of the Lord, people tremblingly enter into the nuzhe, but I enter the prodigal without coldness: alas for me.

And now: Do not reveal, Mistress, do not reveal me, strangely, the blood of your Son, who is unworthy of all: but wash me from the filth of my sins.

Canto 5

Irmos: With Thy light of God, Blessed, illumine those who morning Thee with love, I pray, lead Thee, the Word of God, the true God, calling from the darkness of sin.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

With your divine radiance, Good One, heal my spiritual passions, even the corruption of all: and deliver me from this bitter captivity.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Adam, therefore, transgressed the commandment of the one Virgin, and fell into exile: how I weep for the abyss of my transgressions, I am criminal.

Glory: The killer, then, appeared to the tree, and the fratricide Cain, cursed by God by God: what will I do, having killed my soul now, and I am not ashamed.

And now: Esau is jealous of the fierce, gluttony, and satiety: the whole, the soul of the defiled by drunkenness, and the caress of my life: and who does not weep passionately, alas for me.

Canto 6

Irmos: The sea of life, erected in vain to misfortune a storm, has flowed to Your quiet haven, crying out to You: raise my belly from aphids, O Many-merciful.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

My life is prodigal, my soul is filthy, and my stomach is all cursed, but my body is all in evil fierce scales: the same, the Virgin, help me.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

The end is before me, and I’m not warm, Good, my conscience convicts me: the deeds of the evil one are coming, and the life of prodigality, and I am horrified at the judgment of your Son, Pure.

Glory: Flesh is my kindling, the fiery river is terrible and inextinguishable, it truly awaits, and the worm is unsleeping: but quench this with your prayers, Most Pure.

And now: Now I am possessed with trembling, Good One, and I am horrified by crafty catching: before the end, the corruption wants to kill me, holding me like a captive of everything, and the nakedness of virtues.

Lord have mercy (three times). Glory, And now:

Sedalen, tone 6

Hope and a wall, and a haven for your people, Virgo: born from nothing passionless Savior of all: as if crying your Son at the cross, now pray to deliver from all aphids, singing thee.

Canto 7

Irmos: An angel made a fertile cave as a reverend youth, but the Chaldeans, the scorching decree of God, exhort the tormentor to cry out: blessed be Thou, God our father.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Seven times a week, kindle the flame with my evil passions, and my heart always mortifies with lusts: the same with the currents of my tears, quench it, Mother of God, and save.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Scorched by the mud of my sins, do not reject me, Good Lady: for in vain I exist in despair, the crafty enemy laughs: but you yourself, with your sovereign hand, raise up.

Glory: Terrible judgment judge, my passionate soul and insensible, and the torment is unending and terrible: but now both fall down to the Mother of your Judge and God, and do not despair yourself.

And now: Darkened passionately, with a multitude of immeasurable evils, and defiling the soul and body and mind: the same, the Most Pure, with the light of your radiance, soon introduce me to passionlessness of sweetness.

Glory: Grant unceasing groaning, Lady, and give me clouds of tears, and wash away my many sins, and incurable ulcers: as if I would improve eternal life.

And now: My many evil confessions to you, the Lady: as if there is not a single person in the world who has angered God, the Son and your Lord: this will soon be changed to mercy, Virgin.

Canto 9

Irmos: It is impossible for a man to see God; By you, the All-Pure One, the Word Incarnate appeared as a man, His majestic, with heavenly howls we appease Thee.

Behold, I come to you, Most Pure, with much fear and love, a fortress that knows many of your prayers, your servant, it can truly be a lot, Mistress, the mother’s prayer to the Son: it bows with mercy.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Even from the Trinity of the one God gave birth, and carried on the hand, the Virgin Mother: extinguish the passions of the fiery furnace, and wash my soul with tear currents.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Accept the faces of the Archangel, and the multitude of the highest hosts of my Builder, the Apostle and the Prophet of the cathedrals, and the Martyrs, and the Monks, and the Hieromartyrs: and make a prayer, Pure, for us to God.

Glory: And now and then, let me find your help, Pure, at the hour in the same time my spirit will depart: soon, relieve me of demonic torment, Immaculate, and do not leave me Good, I will be betrayed to be them.

And now: Judge the generous tea, and your philanthropic Son: Pure, do not despise me, but do me a favor, put me at the right hand then, All-blameless, to his most pure judge: on thee I hope.

According to biblical teaching, sorrow and despondency are the result of a sinful life of a person. Falling into them, the soul falls away from God, from the source of joy and love, peace and good. But the Lord promised to give a person according to his faith, therefore, despite the various situations and phenomena that can occur in our life, even falling under one of the mortal sins - despondency due to our sins, we must strive to get out of it as soon as possible, before this disease takes root and did not grow in the soul.

One of the ways that allows you to avoid a painful situation is to read a special rule that helps to overcome this dangerous spiritual disease. The rule is called the Penitential Canon. It can be read to the Guardian Angel, who is assigned to a person and is able, at the request of his ward, to do a lot for him, to the Lord and, of course, to our main Intercessor - the Queen of Heaven.

Story

In the VIII century from the Nativity of Christ, the prayer canon of the Mother of God was created by a holy man, a spiritual writer named Theostirikt (or Theoctist). It was a famous admirer in his time sacred icons and the author of many spiritual texts.

Then the Emperor Constantine Copronymus ruled in Greece. He was a cruel king, and the period of his reign is the time of the appearance of iconoclasm in addition to the persecution of the Church. The reign of Emperor Constantine Copronymus is sometimes even compared with the reign of the pagan ruler Diocletian, who inhumanly mocked Christians. Similarly, this ruler subjected the monks for their fidelity to Christ, for the fact that they guarded the icons, terrifying tortures.

Unfortunately, St. Theostirikt was no exception: his nose and hands were burned with hot resin. The rest were stoned. However, this holy elder, the creator of the sacred penitential Canons to the Lord, the Mother of God and the saints, nevertheless steadfastly withstood the trials that befell him and eventually lived a fruitful long life, having passed away in deep eldership.

Ancient sources contain information that Saint Theostirict often suffered from bouts of black despondency. It was associated with constant persecution by the emperor of the state against Christians of that time. He deeply worried about the fate of the Church of Christ, His people, because they were constantly being attacked.

Therefore, being a deeply religious person and also having the gift of spiritual writing, he composed special hymnographic songs-poems, which were called the Holy Penitential Canons to Christ, the Mother of God, the Guardian Angel. These chants supported the monk and allowed him to overcome this painful state and again find peace in his soul and harmony in relations with the Almighty.

Reading the canon today

Today, believers who read these canons of St. Theostiriks in special situations equally experience a positive result not only in relation to their internal state, but also note positive changes in their external, family, personal life.

Canons are sung together with other chants or separately. The main thing is that prayer comes from the heart, this is what will ultimately play a decisive role.

About the language of the canon

Initially, since the canon was written by a Greek, it was created in the author's native language - Greek. After our ancestors, it was translated into the then Slavic. This language is still in our modern temples books are printed on it, according to which the clergy sing prayers according to all the canons. For ease of use and understanding, new books have been published in which all the words of the prayers are preserved, but printed in modern letters.

This made it much easier to understand. Actually, it is this option that we see in almost all prayer books. At first, it is difficult to understand Slavic verbal constructions, the manner of expressing thoughts, long complex sentences, and so on. But for Christians, for whom Russian has become a second native language, but was not such initially, there are translations where all the words and expressions of prayers are written as if they were written by a modern person using completely modern vocabulary. Such prayer books can be bought or heard, for example, on New Athos in Abkhazia.

Of course, the canons of repentance have been translated into all the languages of the world, so that Christians from other nationalities can begin this great heritage of the possibility of healing their souls and receiving help from above.

The main types of prayer hymns to the Most Holy Theotokos

It should be noted that at the moment a fairly significant number of prayer addresses to the Mother of God have already been written, perhaps more than to any of the saints or even to the Lord. This is due to the multitude of Her holy miraculous icons. However, in general, all prayers, both large and small, are divided into:

  • prayer,
  • repentant.

Canon of Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos

The best known is the prayer canon of the Mother of God, which begins with the words “to the Mother of God now diligently as a parson”, the text of which is also used when singing the prayer service to the Mother of God. It was written in the 12th century by a novice of one of the male monasteries of that time.

This is a prayer chant got its name due to the exceptionally penetrating hymn-singing verses that can cause in every Christian who prays with these words a state that is called “contrition of the heart” in the Gospels - when a person not only admits his imperfection, but also begins to grieve about it, which ultimately leads to the fact that he becomes more humane, kind, attentive.

This is what can be called "softening evil hearts." This is not just to crush a person, weaken him and take away all his dignity. And, you can say, change the minus to a plus. Replace pride with humility, meekness and love for your neighbor - the same once damaged. Evil should also be replaced with love and forgiveness for all the sorrows caused and become kinder, and therefore stronger.

A person who is kind and strong in his heart and will to do good returns the true dignity of his soul within himself. And more importantly, dignity before the eyes of God- so that he could not only give a person various benefits by grace, but also because a kind and loving person simply becomes worthy of this.

Of course, humility before God (as the highest love) allows the Creator to restore in us all the damaged areas of the soul and give grace, which the corrected human soul will be able to receive into itself. And with the return of the grace of God all evil and posthumous states of the soul also leave the soul of a person by themselves:

  • despondency,
  • anger,
  • rage,
  • lack of faith
  • pride,
  • desire to judge everyone
  • slander,
  • deceit,
  • lust and much more.

At one time, such a beneficent influence of prayer became the reason that the holy fathers included the canon Mother of God before Communion- every believer had to read it in order to approach with the right mindset the acceptance of the Body and Blood of Christ.

It should be noted that its original purpose is indicated by a brief explanation, which suggests that this chant is also worth starting to read when a person is overcome by various spiritual sorrows. The rule saves from it and from despondency.

Canon of Repentance to the Most Holy Theotokos

In addition to prayer hymns, the canon of repentance to our Most Holy Lady is also often published in the prayer book for the laity and monks. Christian Orthodox doctrine says that something that a person cannot forgive himself and others, God can. And also at all times, since the time of her earthly wandering, the Mother of God could ask Her beautiful Son about people, about events - about everything.

And now, when She is the Queen of Heaven and earth and has the grace from God to receive everything she asks, she does not forget us. Therefore, all those who have realized the need for this resort to Her protection and protection from themselves, from sin and damage to the soul. Now she is the Helper and Patron of all sinful people.

It is for this reason that all Christians (and not only) from century to century cry out to Her in their petitions for help from the consequences of their sinful actions. Resorting to the canons to the Mother of God, petitions about her help in atoning for sins- this chant to the Blessed Virgin Mary is the most accessible means to achieve this goal.

Canon to the Theotokos before Communion

Before Communion, the combined canons are read:

  • Lord Jesus Christ,
  • Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos,
  • Guardian Angel.

One troparion (song) was taken from each canon. A chorus is sung between songs (there are several of them, and they change depending on the place of the canon). To the Mother of God, the chant sounds like “Most Holy Theotokos, save us.” Alternatively, it may be "Holy Mother of God", with the letter "e" at the end. This should not be taken as a mistake, but you need to know that the ancient pronunciation has been preserved, where the vocative case has been preserved, and it has the endings -o and -e.

The three canons before communion are combined as follows:

  • irmos 1 song with the appropriate voice is taken from the penitential canon to the Lord Jesus;
  • several 1 songs of the troparia of the penitential canon to the Lord;
  • troparia 1 song of the prayer canon to the Most Holy Theotokos, irmos is not sung;
  • troparia of the 1st song of the canon to the Guardian Angel, irmos is also not sung. And so all 9 songs of the canons. It is important to know that the second canto of each of the listed canons is omitted. The second ode in the canons begins to be read on Great Lent, because the sufferings of Jesus Christ and everything that preceded this event are remembered there.
  • After the third song, a saddle is read (you can sit on this piece).
  • After the sixth ode of the combined canon, the kontakion and ikos proposed in the prayer book are read.
  • At the end of the ninth ode, the proper prayers and psalms are recited.

This is the usual procedure for reading combined canons. But, in any case, one should rely on the compiler of the prayer book: everything in them usually corresponds to the rules.

You can also turn for detailed explanations to the Liturgical Directions or the Typicon - the complete charter of Church life and the conduct of prayers and Divine Services.

The meaning of the canons to the Most Holy Theotokos

The reading of the canons before the Sacraments of Confession and Communion is a sequence of requests to the Lord and His Mother to give them the opportunity to confess, health, to give them the strength to proceed to Communion and cleanse the soul before themselves and God, so that the Guardian Angel is relentlessly near and does not allow dark forces attack, influence and send bad thoughts, did not allow the spirit of despondency to enter the soul, etc., delivered from temptations. The canon before communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ is capable of:

  • to help tune the mind, heart and soul to fellowship with the Heavenly Father,
  • give strength and health to go to confession,
  • free from sins
  • give inner opportunities to fight them and evil spirits.

In no case should you justify your laziness, give yourself indulgences or blame someone else for your sins. Sorrow and shame for one's actions must not be hypocritical. The health of the soul will inform the strength and the carnal component of man.

Constant reading of the canon is capable of many things:

  • cure anger and anger.
  • calm the desire to swear and quarrel,
  • give a good mood
  • satisfy greed and give the desire to share goodness with people.

There are many examples when, after prayer, the most favorable events happened to people, something that was previously inaccessible was obtained. Prayer is the door to everyone's life for a different good. The Lord always hears (even if he does not show) the prayers of sinners, and many Angels, according to the assurance of Christ Jesus, rejoice in heaven and triumph when one of the sinners (and this is all of us) repents to God and offers sincere prayers.

Reading the canon to the Blessed Virgin Mary, like all other prayers, is necessary slowly, with heartfelt attention and contrition of the heart. It is of great importance to try to realize the meaning of the canon in order to receive the grace of God through the right attitude.

From time immemorial, the Orthodox people have venerated the Most Holy Theotokos as “The Blessed and Immaculate Mother of our God, as the Most Honorable Cherubim and the most glorious Seraphim without comparison”, the great Intercessor and Intercessor in the affairs of believing Christians. The veneration of the Mother of God is based on and on faith in Her special virtues. Icon-painting creations, prayer works in the form of akathists, troparia and canons of the Mother of God are dedicated to the beloved image of the Most Pure.

Her greatness became genuine, since she alone happened to receive the grace of God, to become blessed among all women, to hear from the Heavenly Messenger: "The Lord is with you." The prayerful veneration of the Ever-Virgin among Orthodox Christians is very great. Ordinary Christians associate every day with Her name and prayer appeal to Her. In the dormant canon of the Most Holy Theotokos All-believing Christians, having repented of their sins, ask the Mother of God to “have mercy” on them and save them from many sins.

The meaning of the canon of the Most Holy Theotokos

Reverence for the Mother of God is one of the best means, effective forces for true repentance, correction and prosperity in spiritual life. Through her all-powerful prayers, Orthodox believers will be vouchsafed eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The canon of prayer for the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the most characteristic prayers, emphasizing the importance of the Mother of God for the common people. Christians do not see a more powerful protector than their Lady. Between glory and irmos, throughout the entire Orthodox canon of the Most Holy Theotokos, the main phrase is a prayer for salvation: "Most Holy Theotokos, save us." The Most Pure is called the "Mother of the Word, the originator of blessings and the support of the believers", which is resorted to as "a reliable wall and a single quick defender." The entire Christian canon of the Mother of God consists of zealous appeals to the Mother of God - "a warm prayer book, an impregnable wall, mercy to the source and the world of refuge." Perhaps there are few prayers in Orthodox worship in which the Most Pure One has so many exact names.

The text of the canon of the Most Holy Theotokos All-Tsaritsa

Troparion to the Theotokos, tone 4
Now diligently to the Theotokos, we are sinners and humility, and we fall down, calling in repentance from the depths of our souls: Lady, help us, having mercy on us, we are perishing from many sins, do not turn away Your servants of vanity, You and the only hope of the imam. (Twice)
Glory, and now: We will never be silent, O Mother of God, to speak Your strength, unworthy: otherwise You would not be praying, who would save us from so many troubles, who would keep us free until now? We will not retreat, O Lady, from Thee: for Thy servants save forever from all kinds of fierce ones.

Psalm 50
Cast me not away from Your presence, and do not take me away from me.

Glory: Save the one who gave birth to You and God, I pray, Virgo, get rid of the fierce ones: to You, now resorting, I stretch out both my soul and thought.
And now: Ill in body and soul, vouchsafe visitations from the Divine and providence from Thee, one Bogomati, like a good, Good Parent.

Canto 3
The heavenly circle of the Supreme Creator, Lord, and the Church of the Builder, You confirm me in Your love, desires to the edge, true affirmation, only Humanity.

I pray, Virgo, to destroy my storm of spiritual confusion and sorrow: You are more, O Bride of God, the head of Christ's silence gave birth to you, the only Most Pure.

O Blessed Virgin, Mother of the Lord Most High, Intercessor and Protector of all who resort to You! Look from the height of Your saints on me, a sinner (name), falling to Your pure image; hear my warm prayer and bring it before your Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; implore Him, may it illuminate my gloomy soul with the light of His Divine grace, may it deliver me from all need, sorrow and illness, may it send me a quiet and peaceful life, health of body and soul, may my suffering heart die and heal its wounds, may it instruct me for good deeds, let my mind be cleansed from vain thoughts, but having taught me the fulfillment of His commandments, let it deliver from eternal torment and let it not deprive me of His Kingdom of Heaven. O Holy Mother of God! You, "Joy of All Who Sorrow", hear me, mournful; You, called "Assuagement of Sorrow", quench my sorrow as well; You, "Burning Kupino", save the world and all of us from the harmful fiery arrows of the enemy; You, "Seeker of the Lost", do not let me perish in the abyss of my sins. On Tya, according to Bose, all my hope and hope. Be my Intercessor in my temporary life, and about eternal life before Your Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Intercessor. Christian prayer in front of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos

The Virgin Mistress of the Theotokos, who bore in her womb the Savior Christ and our God, I place all my hope in You, I trust in You, the highest of all heavenly powers. You, Most Pure One, guard me with Your Divine Grace. Manage my life and guide according to the holy will of Your Son and our God. Grant me the remission of sins, be my refuge, cover, protection and guide, leading me to eternal life. In the terrible hour of death, do not leave me, my Lady, but hasten to help me and rescue me from the bitter torment of demons. For in your will you have power; do this, as truly the Mother of God and dominating over everything, Receive the venerable and the only gifts brought to you from us, your unworthy servants, the most merciful, all-holy Lady of the Mother of God, chosen from all generations, who turned out to be the highest of all creatures of heaven and earth. Inasmuch as through Thee we have come to know the Son of God, through Thee the Lord of hosts has become with us, and we have become worthy of His holy Body and Blood, then blessed are You throughout the generations of generations, most God-blessed, most holy of the Cherubim and most glorious of the Seraphim; and now, revered, All-Holy Theotokos, do not stop pleading for us, Thy unworthy servants, to get rid of every wiles of the evil one and from every extreme, and keep us unharmed with every poisonous attack. Even to the end, by Your prayers, keep us uncondemned, and saved by Your intercession and Your help, we will always send glory, praise, thanksgiving and worship to the one God in the Trinity and the Creator of all. Good and blessed Lady, Mother of the good, all-good and all-good God, look at the prayer of Your unworthy and indecent servant with Your merciful eye, and act with me according to the great mercy of Your inexpressible goodness and do not look at my sins, both in word and in deed, and made with every feeling, arbitrarily and involuntarily, with knowledge and in ignorance, and renew all of me, making the temple of the all-holy, life-giving and dominating Spirit, which is the power of the Most High, and overshadowed Your all-pure womb, and dwelt in it. For You are the helper of the troubled, the representative of the distressed, the savior of the overwhelmed, the haven of the troubled, the protector and intercessor of those in extremes. Grant to Your servant contrition, silence of thoughts, constancy of thought, a chaste mind, sobriety of the soul, a humble way of thinking, a holy and sober mood of the spirit, a prudent and well-organized disposition, serving as a sign of spiritual composure, also piety and peace, which our Lord gave to His disciples. May my supplication come to Thy holy temple and to the habitation of Thy glory; May my eyes exhaust the sources of tears, and may You wash me with my own tears, whiten with streams of my tears, cleansing me from the filth of passions. Erase the handwriting of my falls, scatter the clouds of my sorrow, darkness and confusion of thoughts, remove from me the storm and the desire of passions, keep me in serenity and silence, expand my heart with spiritual expansion, rejoice and rejoice me with unspeakable joy, unceasing joy, so that by the right paths of the commandments Thy Son, I walked faithfully and with an unreproachable conscience I went through an uncomplaining life. Grant me, who prays before Thee, a pure prayer, so that with an unperturbed mind, unwandering reflection, and with an insatiable soul, I may continually day and night learn the words of the Divine Scriptures, sing in confession, and in joyful heart bring prayer to the glory, honor, and magnificence of the only-begotten Son. Yours and our Lord Jesus Christ. He deserves all glory, honor and worship now, and always, and forever and ever! Amen.

According to biblical teaching, despondency and sorrow are states of the sinful plan. Since a person, falling into them, ceases to be a phenomenon of life, does not radiate vital energy. But it is said: “According to your light let it be to you” (Apostle Paul).

Therefore, it is important, despite the different situations and phenomena that occur in life, even if you get into a state of despondency, try to get out of it as soon as possible.

One of the ways, created back in the 8th century AD by Saint Theostirikt, is the singing of the Canon of the Penitent to the Lord, the Mother of God, the Guardian Angel. This will be discussed in this article.

About the author of the canons

The monk Theostirikt (according to other sources Theoktirist) lived in the 8th century AD. He was a famous venerator of sacred icons and a spiritual writer at that time.

Just during the years of his life, Constantine Copronymus ruled in Greece. It was a cruel king, since the period of his reign is considered the time of the development of iconoclasm in the church. Constantine Copronymus was even compared to the pagan emperor Diocletian, who cruelly mocked Christians.

Also, this ruler subjected the monks to terrible tortures because they defended the Christian faith, protected the icons.

So St. Theostirict was no exception: his hands and nose were burned with hot pitch. Others were stoned.

canons

Ancient sources report that the saint often experienced a state of despondency due to the constant persecution of Christians by the ruler of the country. He deeply experienced the constantly falling attacks.

And therefore, being a deeply religious person, as well as a spiritual writer, he composed special songs-poems, which are called the Holy Canons of Repentance to Christ, the Mother of God, the Guardian Angel. And they helped the monk to move away from the negative state and come back to joy and peace.

At the present time, believers who apply the Canons also feel a positive result regarding their inner state.

They are sung together "The Penitential Canon to the Lord, the Mother of God and the Angel" or each separately. But this does not affect the meaning and result.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.

Master Christ God, Who heals my passions with His passions and heals my ulcers with His ulcers, grant me, who have sinned much with You, tears of tenderness; dilute my body from the smell of Your life-giving Body, and delight my soul with Your Honorable Blood from sorrow, drink me with it; raise my mind to Thee, drooping valley, and raise me from the abyss of perdition: as if I do not imam repentance, I do not imam tenderness, I do not imam comforting tears, raising children to their inheritance. Darkened by the mind in worldly passions, I cannot look to You in illness, I cannot warm myself with tears, even if I love You. But, Lord Jesus Christ, treasure of the good, grant me wholehearted repentance and an industrious heart to seek Thy, grant me Thy grace and renew in me the signs of Thy image. Leave you, don't leave me; go forth to my exaction, lead me to Thy pasture and count me among the sheep of Thy chosen flock, raise me with them from the grain of Thy Divine Sacraments, by the prayers of Thy Most Pure Mother and all Thy saints. Amen.

Canon of Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos

Sung in every sorrow of the soul and circumstances.

Creation of the monk Theostirikt.

(Twice )

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

We will never be silent, O Theotokos, to speak unworthy of Your power: otherwise You would not be praying, who would save us from so many troubles, who would keep us free until now? We will not retreat, O Lady, from Thee: for Thy servants save forever from all kinds of fierce ones.

Psalm 50

Hear my groaning, and incline Your ear to me, the Lady of the Mother of my God, and do not despise me, who requires Your help, and do not reject me, a sinner. Prayer to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel of God, my guardian, pray to God for me.

Holy Angel of Christ, I pray to you, my holy guardian, given to me to keep my sinful soul and body from holy baptism, but with my laziness and my evil habit, I angered your most pure lordship and drove you away from me with all studish deeds: lies, slander , envy, condemnation, contempt, disobedience, fraternal hatred, and malice, love of money, adultery, rage, stinginess, gluttony without satiety and drunkenness, verbosity, evil thoughts and crafty, proud custom and fornication rage, having self-desire for all carnal lust. Oh, my evil will, even the beasts of speechlessness do not create it! But how can you look at me, or come to me, like a stinking dog? Whose eyes, angel of Christ, look at me, entwined with evil in vile deeds? Yes, how can I ask forgiveness for my bitter and evil and crafty deed, I fall into it all day and night and at every hour? But I pray, falling down, my holy guardian, have mercy on me, your sinful and unworthy servant (name), be my helper and intercessor for the evil of my opponent, with your holy prayers, and make the Kingdom of God a partaker of me with all the saints, always, and now and forever and ever. Amen.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of the good and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Lord have mercy. (12 times)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Come, let us worship our King God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, our King God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the Tsar and our God. (Bow)

Psalm 22

The Lord shepherds me, and will deprive me of nothing. In the place of zlachne, there they instilled me, on the water calmly raised me. Turn my soul, guide me on the paths of truth, for Your name's sake. If I go in the midst of the canopy of death, I will not fear evil, for Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy club, that consoles me. Thou hast prepared a meal before me against those who are afflicted with me, thou hast anointed my head with oil, and Thy cup makes me drink, as if it were sovereign. And Thy mercy will marry me all the days of my life, and even settle me in the house of the Lord, in the longitude of days.

Psalm 23

The earth is the Lord's, and the fulfillment of it, the world, and all who dwell in it. He founded me on the seas, and prepared me to eat on the rivers. Who will ascend the mountain of the Lord? Or who will stand in His holy place? Innocent hands and pure in heart, who do not accept their soul in vain, and do not swear by their sincere flattery. This one will receive a blessing from the Lord, and alms from God, his Savior. This is the generation of those who seek the Lord, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Lift up your gates, your princes, and lift up your eternal gates; and the King of Glory will enter. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord is mighty and mighty, the Lord is mighty in battle. Lift up your gates, your princes, and lift up your eternal gates, and the King of Glory will enter. Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of Glory.

Psalm 115

Verovah, the same exclaimed, but I humbled myself very much. But I rech in my rage: every man is a lie. What will I repay the Lord for all that I repay? I will take the cup of salvation, and I will call on the name of the Lord, I will give my prayers to the Lord before all His people. Honorable before the Lord is the death of His saints. O Lord, I am Your servant, I am Your servant and the son of Your handmaid; thou hast torn my bonds. I will devour thee a sacrifice of praise, and in the name of the Lord I will call. I will give my prayers to the Lord before all His people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, Jerusalem.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Alleluia. (Three times with three bows)

Troparion, tone 8

Despise my iniquities, Lord, be born of the Virgin, and cleanse my heart, creating a temple to Your most pure Body and Blood, lower me from Your face, having great mercy without number.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

In the communion of Your holy things, how dare I [enter], unworthy? Asha, I dare to approach You with the worthy, the tunic convicts me, as if there is an evening one, and I intercede for condemnation of my many-sinful soul. Cleanse, O Lord, the defilement of my soul, and save me, like a Lover of mankind.

And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Many of my many, Mother of God, sins, I resorted to You, Pure, demanding salvation: visit my weak soul, and pray to Your Son and our God, give me remission, even the fiercest deeds, Blessed One.

[On Holy Forty Day:

When the glorious disciple at the ablution of the supper is enlightened, then Judas, the wicked with the love of money, having become darkened, and betrays the righteous Judge to the lawless judges. See, the property of the zealot, who used the strangulation for this sake: run the unsatisfied soul, the Teacher is so daring. Who is the good Lord of all, glory to Thee.]

Psalm 50

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you; as if you were justified in your words, and conquered when you judge Ty. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Give joy and joy to my hearing; the bones of the humble will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue rejoices in thy righteousness. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, an offering and a burnt offering; then they will offer bullocks on your altar.

Canon, voice 2. Canto 1

Irmos: Come people, let us sing a song to Christ God, who parted the sea, and who instructed the people, even having brought them out of the work of Egypt, as if glorified.

The bread of the belly of the eternal be to me Thy Holy Body, merciful Lord, and Honest Blood, and the ailment of manifold healing.

Defiled by the deeds of the unplaced, the accursed one, I am not worthy of Your Most Pure Body and Divine Blood, Christ, communion, which you vouchsafe me.

Give me tears, O Christ, drops, the filth of my cleansing heart: as if cleansed by a good conscience, I come by faith and fear, Lord, to partake of Your Divine Gifts.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

For the remission of my transgressions, Thy Most Pure Body, and the Divine Blood, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life, Lover of mankind, and alienation of passions and sorrows.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Theotokion: Animal Bread The Most Holy Meal, above the mercy for the sake of the one who descended, and give the world a new belly to the one who gives, and now vouchsafe me the unworthy, with fear to taste this, and I live to be.

Canto 4

Irmos: You came from the Virgin, not an intercessor, not an Angel, but Himself, Lord, incarnated, and saved all of me man. Thus I call to Thee: glory to Thy power, Lord.

Chorus: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

Thou hast desired, for the sake of incarnation, O Many-Merciful One, slain to be like a sheep, a sin for the sake of men: the same I pray to Thee, and cleanse my sins.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Heal the wounds of my soul, Lord, and sanctify everything: and vouchsafe, Master, that I may partake of Thy mystical Divine Supper, accursed one.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Theotokion: Have mercy on me who exists from Thy womb, O Lady, and keep me undefiled by Thy servant and blameless, as if I were to receive smart beads, I will be sanctified.

Canto 5

Irmos: Giver of Light and Creator of the ages, Lord, guide us in the light of Your commandments; unless we know no other god to you.

Chorus: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

As thou hast prophesied, O Christ, let it be done unto thy wicked servant, and abide in me, as thou hast promised: behold thy body is divine, and I drink thy blood.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Word of God and God, let the coal of Your Body be to me darkened into enlightenment, and the cleansing of my defiled soul, Your Blood.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Theotokion: Mary, Mother of God, fragrance of an honest village, make me a chosen vessel with your prayers, as if I would partake of Your Son with consecration.

Canto 6

Irmos: Lying in the sinful abyss, I call upon the abyss unsearchable of Your mercy: from aphids, O God, raise me up.

Chorus: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

Sanctify my mind, soul and heart, O Savior, and my body, and vouchsafe, O Master, without condemnation, to proceed to the terrible Mysteries.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Yes, I would have abstained from passions, and Your grace would have an application, but affirmation of the stomach, the communion of the Saints, Christ, Your Mysteries.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Theotokion: God, God, Holy Word, sanctify all of me, now coming to Your Divine Mysteries, Your Holy Mother with prayers.

Kontakion, voice 2

Bread, Christ, do not despise me, Thy Body, and now Thy Divine Blood, the most pure, Master, and Thy terrible Mysteries partake of the accursed, may it not be me in judgment, may it be us in the life eternal and immortal.

Canto 7

Irmos: The wise children did not serve the golden body, and they themselves went into the flames, and cursed their gods, crying out in the flames, and I irrigate the Angel: your prayer has already been heard.

Chorus: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

The source of the good, communion, Christ, of Your now immortal Sacraments, may there be light, and a belly, and passionlessness, and for the advancement and increase of the virtue of the Divine intercession, only Blessed, as if I glorify Thee.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Let me get rid of passions, and enemies, and need, and all sorrow, with trembling and love with reverence, Lover of mankind, now approach Your immortal and Divine Mysteries, and vouchsafe You to sing: blessed be Thou, Lord, God of our fathers.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Theotokion: Savior of Christ who gave birth to more than the mind, God-blessed, I pray to Thee now, Thy servant, Pure unclean: whoever wants me now to proceed to the most pure Mysteries, cleanse everything from the filth of the flesh and spirit.

Canto 8

Irmos: Into the fiery furnace to the youth of the Jews who descended, and the flame into the dew of the deceived God, sing the deeds of the Lord, and exalt forever.

Chorus: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

Heavenly, and terrible, and Thy saints, Christ, now the Mysteries, and Thy Divine and Last Supper of a companion to be and me desperate, God, my Savior.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Benevolence has come running under Yours, Blessed, with fear I call Thee: abide in me, Savior, and I, as you said, in You; Behold, daring to Thy mercy, I pit Thy Body, and I drink Thy Blood.

Chorus: Holy Trinity, our God, glory to Thee.

Trinity: I tremble, accepting the fire, but I will not be scorched like wax and like grass; ole terrible mystery! ole mercy of God! What kind of Divine Body and Blood do I partake of, and I am created imperishable?

Canto 9

Irmos: The Son, God and Lord, the Parent is without beginning, having incarnated from the Virgin, appearing to us, clouded by enlightenment, gathering dispersed: we magnify the all-singing Mother of God.

Chorus: Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb.

Christ is, taste and see: the Lord for us, for us of old, brought to Himself alone, as an offering to His Father, He is forever slain, sanctifying those who partake.

Chorus: Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

May I be sanctified with soul and body, Master, may I be enlightened, may I be saved, may I be Your house a communion of the sacred Mysteries, having You living in yourself with the Father and the Spirit, the Benefactor of Many Mercy.

Chorus: Reward me the joy of Thy salvation and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit.

Like fire, let it be mine, and like light, Your Body and Blood, my Savior, most honorable, scorching the sinful substance, burning the passions of thorns, and enlightening me all, bow down to Your Divinity.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Theotokion: God became incarnate from Thy pure blood; the same, every generation sings to Thee, the Mistress, but the intelligent multitudes glorify, as if by Thee they have seen the Ruler of all, who has been realized by mankind.

It is worthy to eat as if truly blessed Theotokos, Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God. The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Holy God, Holy Strong, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Lord have mercy. (Three times)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

If it's a week, the Sunday troparion is in tone. If not, real troparia, tone 6:

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us; bewildering any answer, this prayer, as the Lord, we bring sins: have mercy on us.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Lord, have mercy on us, we put our trust in Thee; do not be angry with us, remember our iniquities below, but look now as if you are merciful, and deliver us from our enemies. Thou art our God, and we are Thy people, all works by Thy hand, and we call on Thy name.

And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Open the doors of mercy to us, blessed Mother of God, who hope in Thee, let us not perish, but let us be delivered from troubles by Thee: Thou art the salvation of the Christian race.

Lord have mercy. (40 times) And bows as much as you want.

Although eat, man, the Body of the Lord,

Approach with fear, but do not sing: there is fire.

Drinking the Divine Blood for fellowship,

First, reconcile thee to those who grieve.

The same daring, mysterious brashno yazhd.

Prayer 1, Basil the Great

Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, the Source of life and immortality, of all creatures, visible and invisible to the Creator, of the beginningless Father co-eternal with the Son and co-originating, for the sake of goodness in the last days, clothed in the flesh, and crucified, and buried for us, ungrateful and evil-minded, and Yours Renewing our nature corrupted by sin with blood, Himself, the Immortal King, accept my sinful repentance, and incline Your ear to me, and hear my words. I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned against heaven and before You, and I am not worthy to look at the height of Your glory: I have angered Your goodness, transgressing Your commandments, and not listening to Your commands. But You, Lord, who are not malice, long-suffering and many-merciful, did not betray me to perish with my iniquities, expecting my conversion in every possible way. You said, O Lover of mankind, your prophet: as if by desire I do not want the death of a sinner, but I will turn and live to be him. Do not wish, O Lord, to destroy Your hand in creation; below, you favor the destruction of mankind, but you wish to be saved by everyone, and come to the understanding of truth. The same and az, if I am unworthy of heaven and earth, and sowing temporary life, obeying sin all to myself, and enslaving with sweetness, and desecrating Your image; but having been Your creation and creation, I do not despair of my salvation, accursed, daring to Your immeasurable goodness, I come. Accept me, O Lord of mankind, like a harlot, like a thief, like a publican and like a prodigal, and take my heavy burden of sins, take the sin of the world, and heal human infirmities, call and give rest to those who are laboring and burdened to You, who did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And cleanse me from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and teach me to perfect the sanctity in Your fear: as if by the pure knowledge of my conscience, I receive a part of Your holy things, I am united to Your holy Body and Blood, and I have You living and abiding in me, with the Father, and your Holy Spirit. Yes, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, and let the communion of Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries not be in judgment, let me be weak in soul and body, from which I am unworthy to partake, but give me, even to my final breath, uncondemnedly perceive part of Thy holy things, in the Holy Spirit communion, in the guidance of the eternal belly, and in a favorable answer to Thy Terrible Judgment: as if with all Thy chosen ones, I will be a sharer of Thy incorruptible blessings, even if You have prepared for those who love Thee, Lord, in them Thou hast been glorified in eyelids. Amen.

Prayer 2, Saint John Chrysostom

Lord, my God, we know that I am not worthy, I am satisfied below, but under the roof of the temple of my soul, I’m all empty and eaten, and don’t have a place in me worthy of bowing my head: but for the sake of us from the height you humbled yourself, humble yourself and now my humility; and as if you took it in the den and in the manger of the wordless near, take it and in the manger of my wordless soul, and enter into my defiled body. And as if you did not deign to enter, and candles from sinners in the house of Simon the leper, so deign to enter into the house of my humble soul, lepers and sinners; and as if you did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You, have mercy on me, a sinner, who comes and touches You; and as if you did not disdain her filthy lips and unclean ones kissing Thee, below my filthy lips and unclean ones, below my vile and unclean lips, and my filthy and uncleanest tongue. But may the coal of Your most holy Body, and Your precious Blood, be mine, for the sanctification and enlightenment and health of my humble soul and body, for the relief of the burden of many of my sins, for observance from every devilish action, for the repulsion and prohibition of my evil and crafty custom, into the mortification of passions, into the provision of Thy commandments, into the application of Thy Divine grace, and appropriation of Thy Kingdom. Not as if I despise I come to You, Christ God, but as if daring for Your inexpressible goodness, and may I not move away from Your fellowship, I will be hunted by the mental wolf. The same I pray to You: as the only Holy One, Lord, sanctify my soul and body, mind and heart, wombs and wombs, and renew all of me, and root Your fear in my mind, and create Your sanctification inseparably from me; and be my helper and intercessor, nourishing my belly in the world, vouchsafe to me and at the right hand of You the presence with Your saints, prayers and prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Your immaterial servants and most pure powers, and all the saints who have pleased You from time immemorial. Amen.

Prayer 3, Simeon Metaphrastus

The only pure and incorruptible Lord, for the inexpressible mercy of philanthropy, our all perceptible mixture, from pure and virgin blood more than nature, who gave birth to Thee, the Divine Spirit by the invasion, and the good pleasure of the Father, the eternal, Christ Jesus, the wisdom of God, and peace, and strength; By your perception, life-giving and saving suffering perceived, cross, nail, spear, death, kill my soulful bodily passions. By your burial of the hellish captivating kingdom, bury my good thoughts with crafty advice, and deceive the evil spirits. By your three-day and life-giving resurrection of the fallen forefather, raise up me who crawled with sin, offering me images of repentance. By your glorious ascension, deifying the perception of the flesh, and by this right hand of the Father by the graying of mail, make me worthy of receiving the right part of those saved by the communion of your saints. With the descending of the Comforter of Your Spirit, the sacred vessels are honest, Your disciples have made, friend, and show me That coming. Although you should come again to judge with the universal truth, deign to make me meet Thee in the clouds, the Judge and Creator of mine, with all Thy saints: yes, I will endlessly glorify and sing of Thee, with Thy Father without beginning, and Thy Most Holy and Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 4, his

As if on Your Terrible and impartial, stand the Judgment Seat, Christ God, and raise condemnation, and create a word about the evil I have done; now, before even the day of my condemnation comes, at your holy altar standing before you and before your terrible and holy angels, bowed from my conscience, I bring my evil and lawless deeds, reveal this and rebuke. See, O Lord, my humility, and forgive me all my sins; see, as if the hair of my head were multiplied more than my iniquity. What harm did not do evil? What sin have I not committed? What evil can I not imagine in my soul? Fornication, adultery, pride, arrogance, reproach, blasphemy, idle talk, incomparable laughter, drunkenness, guttural intoxication, gluttony, hatred, envy, love of money, covetousness, covetousness, self-love, love of glory, theft, unrighteousness, mischief, jealousy , slander, lawlessness; I created every feeling and every spirit of the defiled, corrupt, indecent, being the worker of the devil in every possible way. And we know, Lord, that my iniquities have surpassed my head; but there is an immeasurable multitude of Thy bounties, and the mercy is inexpressible Thy innocence of goodness, and there is no sin in conquering Thy philanthropy. The same, wonderful King, gentle Lord, surprise me, a sinner, with Your mercy, show Your goodness of strength and show the strength of Your compassionate mercy, and turning accept me a sinner. Accept me, as if you accepted a prodigal, a robber, a harlot. Receive me exceedingly, both in word and deed, and in placeless lust, and in wordless thought, having sinned against You. And as if at the eleventh hour you received those who came, who did nothing worthy, so accept me, a sinner: many have sinned and defiled, and saddened Your Holy Spirit, and grieved Your human-loving womb and deed, and word, and thought, in the night and in days, manifested and unmanifested, willingly and unwillingly. And we know, as if you imagine my sins before me, these are the ones that I have done, and have a word with me about their unforgiven sins. But Lord, Lord, let not Thy righteous judgment, rebuke me with Thy fury, punish me with Thy anger; have mercy on me, Lord, for I am not only weak, but I am also Your creation. You, O Lord, have established Your fear on me, but I have done evil before You. I have sinned against you alone, but I pray you, do not enter into judgment with your servant. If you see iniquity, Lord, Lord, who will stand? I am the abyss of sin, and I am not worthy, below I am pleased to look and see the heights of heaven, from the multitude of my sins, there are no number of them: every crime and deceit, and trickery of Satan, and corruption, malice, counseling to sin and other dark passions are not bored of me. Kiimi bo did not corrupt sins? Kiimi not kept evil? All sin committed, all impurity put into my soul, indecent to You, my God, and man. Who will raise me up, into the evil and a fraction of the fallen sin? Lord my God, I put my trust in You; if there is hope for my salvation, if your love of mankind conquers the multitude of my iniquities, be my savior, and according to your mercies and your mercy, weaken, leave, forgive, all of us, sinful fir tree, as my soul is filled with many evils, and carry in me salvation of hope. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and do not reward me according to my deeds, and do not judge me according to my deeds, but turn, intercede, deliver my soul from the evils that grow with it and fierce perceptions. Save me for the sake of Thy mercy, so that where sin increases, Thy grace abounds; and I will praise and glorify Thee always, all the days of my life. Thou art the God of the repentant and the Savior of the sinners; and we send glory to Thee with Thy Father without beginning, and the Most Holy and Good, and Thy Life-Giving Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 5, Saint John of Damascus

Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, only having the power of a person to forgive sins, as good and loving of mankind, despise my whole knowledge and not knowledge of sin, and make me unjudgmentally partake of the Divine, and the most glorious, and the purest, and life-giving Your Mysteries, not in heaviness, not into torment, not into the application of sins, but into cleansing, and sanctification, and betrothal of the future Life and kingdom, into a wall and help, and into the objection of the opposition, into the destruction of many of my sins. You are the God of mercy, and generosity, and humanity, and we send glory to You, with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 6, Saint Basil the Great

Wem, Lord, as I unworthily partake of Your most pure Body and Your precious Blood, and I am guilty, and I judge myself and drink, not judging the Body and Blood of You, Christ and my God, but for Your bounty, daring, I come to You who recks: the eater of My flesh and drink my blood, abides in me, and I in him. Have mercy then, O Lord, and do not rebuke me a sinner, but deal with me according to Thy mercy; and may this holy one be with me for healing, and purification, and enlightenment, and preservation, and salvation, and for the sanctification of soul and body; to drive away every dream, and crafty deed, and the action of the devil, mentally acting in my hands, in boldness and love, even to You; in the correction of life and affirmation, in the return of virtue and perfection; in fulfillment of the commandments, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, in the guidance of the eternal belly, in response, favorable at Your terrible judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

Prayer 7, St. Simeon the New Theologian

From bad lips, from a vile heart, from an unclean tongue, from the soul defiled, accept prayer, my Christ, and do not despise my words, below images, below studiolessness. Give me boldness to speak, even if I want, my Christ, moreover, teach me what it is fitting for me to do and speak. I have sinned more than a harlot, even if I have taken away where you live, having bought the world, come boldly to anoint Your feet, my God, Lord and my Christ. As if he didn’t reject what came from the heart, disdain me below, Word: Give me your nose, and hold and kiss, and tearful streams, like a valuable world, this boldly anoint. Wash me with my tears, cleanse me with them, O Word. Forgive my transgressions, and grant me forgiveness. Weigh a multitude of evils, weigh and my scabs, and see my ulcers, but weigh faith, and see volition, and hear sighing. You are not hidden, my God, my Creator, my Redeemer, below a drop of tears, below a drop of a certain part. What I have not done is seen by Your eyes, but in Your book, and still not done, the essence is written to You. See my humility, see my work as a tree, and leave all sins, God of all: yes, with a pure heart, a trembling thought, and a contrite soul, I will partake of Your undefiled and most holy Mysteries, everyone who eats and drinks with a pure heart is enlivened and adored; Thou hast said, my Lord: everyone who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood, this one abides in Me, and I am in him. The word of every Lord and my God is true: partake of divine and idolizing graces; Yes, because I will not be alone except for You, the Giver of Life, my breath, my stomach, my joy, the salvation of the world. For this sake, I come to You, as if you are seeing, with tears, and with a contrite soul, I ask you to accept the deliverance of my sins, and to partake of Your life-giving and immaculate Sacraments without condemnation, but stay, as if you said, with me trekennym: yes, not only find me Your grace, the deceiver will delight me with flattering, and the deceitful one will lead away those who worship Thy words. For this sake, I fall down to You, and I cry warmly to Ty: as if you accepted the prodigal, and the harlot who came, so accept me, prodigal and filthy, Generous. With a contrite soul, now coming to You, we, Savior, like another, like I, do not sin against You, below the deed of the deed, even as the deeds. But we pack this, as it is not the majesty of sins, nor the multitude of sins that surpasses my God, much long-suffering, and extreme philanthropy; but by the grace of compassion warmly repentant, and clean, and brighten, and create light, partakers, fellows of Your Divinity, making it unenviously, and strange both with an angel and with human thought, talk to them many times, as if your true friend. This audacity they do me, this one they hold me up, my Christ. And daring with Your rich beneficence to us, rejoicing together and trembling, fire and partake of this grass, and a strange miracle, we irrigate it without disgrace, as if the bush were burning in ancient times. Now, with a grateful thought, with a grateful heart, with grateful hands of mine, of my soul and body, I bow and magnify, and glorify Thee, my God, as a blessed being, now and forever.

Prayer 8, Saint John Chrysostom

God, weaken, forgive, forgive me my sins, O Elika, I have sinned, if in word, if in deed, if in thought, willingly or unwillingly, mind or foolishness, forgive all of us as good and philanthropist, and with the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Your smart servants and the holy forces, and all the saints who have pleased you from time immemorial, uncondemnedly be pleased to accept your holy and most pure Body and honest Blood, for the healing of the soul and body, and for the purification of my evil thoughts. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

His same, 9th

Be satisfied, O Master Lord, that you may enter under the shelter of my soul; but if you wish, you, like a Lover of mankind, live in me, daringly I approach; command me to open the door, even though you alone created you, and enter with philanthropy, as if you were, enter and enlighten my darkened thought. I believe that you did this: you did not drive away the harlot who came to you with tears; below the publican rejected thou who repented; lower than the thief, knowing thy kingdom, thou hast driven away; below the persecutor, repenting, you left, hedgehog: but from repentance to you, who came all, in the person of your friends, you made you, the only blessed one always, now and forever and ever. Amen.

His same, 10th

Lord Jesus Christ, my God, weaken, leave, cleanse and forgive me sinful, and indecent, and unworthy of Your servant, transgressions, and sins, and my fall, Thy tree from my youth, even to this day and hour I have sinned: if in the mind and in foolishness, even in words or deeds, or thoughts and thoughts, and undertakings, and all my feelings. And by the prayers of the seedless birth of Thee, the Most Pure and Ever-Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, the only shameless hope and intercession and salvation of mine, grant me to partake without condemnation of Your most pure, immortal, life-giving and terrible Sacraments, for the remission of sins and for eternal life: for sanctification and enlightenment, strength, healing, and the health of the soul and body, and in the consumption and all-perfect destruction of my crafty thoughts, and thoughts, and enterprises, and nightly dreams, dark and crafty spirits; for Yours is the kingdom, and power, and glory, and honor, and worship, with the Father and Your Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 11, Saint John of Damascus

I stand before the doors of Your temple, and I do not retreat from fierce thoughts; but You, Christ God, who justified the publican, and had mercy on Canaanite, and opened the door to the thief of paradise, open the wombs of Your love for mankind and receive me coming and touching You, like a harlot, and bleeding: Ova, having touched the edge of Your robe, make healing pleasant, Ova but keep your feet clean, bear the resolution of sins. But, accursed one, daring to perceive all Your Body, but I will not be scorched; but accept me, like one, and enlighten my spiritual feelings, burning my sinful guilt, with the prayers of the seedless Birth of Thee, and the powers of Heaven; so blessed are you forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of Saint John Chrysostom

I believe, Lord, and I confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into the world to save sinners, from whom I am the first. I also believe that this is Your most pure Body, and this is Your precious Blood. I pray to Thee: have mercy on me, and forgive my sins, voluntary and involuntary, even in word, even in deed, even in knowledge and ignorance, and make me unjudgmentally partake of Your most pure Mysteries, for the remission of sins, and into eternal life. Amen.

When you come to take communion, mentally say this prayer:

Lover of mankind, Lord Jesus Christ my God, may this Holy One not be in my judgment, for the hedgehog unworthy of being: but for the purification and sanctification of the soul and body, and for the betrothal of the future life and kingdom. But it is good for me to cling to God, to place in the Lord the hope of my salvation.

Thy secret supper this day, Son of God, take part in me; we will not tell the secret to your enemy, nor kiss thee, like Judas, but like a thief I will confess you: remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

Preparation for Confession of Sins

During confession, a person is reconciled with Christ, he reveals his sins to Him in the presence of a cleric, who is a “mediator” between God and man. At the end of the confession, the cleric reads a permissive prayer over the confessor - he prays to God for the forgiveness of the sins of the penitent.

During confession, you only need to talk about your sins.

You should carefully prepare for confession, and for this you need to realize the sinfulness of your life and understand that there is sin - any action or thought that contradicts the Commandments.

  • Disbelief in God, creating idols for oneself, worshiping idols, communicating with magicians;
  • Neglect of people, condemnation of their shortcomings, fornication and depraved deeds;
  • Murder;
  • Abortion, which is equivalent to murder (except for termination of pregnancy for medical reasons);
  • Theft of another's property, lies and slander.

During the performance of the Sacrament, it is necessary to speak only about your sins, you do not need to downplay them or look for an excuse for them. You should not look for "church" words, you should describe your sins in ordinary language. You should not be shy about the priest when describing his misdeeds: the cleric accepts a lot of confessions and has not been surprised at anything for a long time, and the sins have not changed over the centuries, just each person describes them differently. A priest will never condemn a penitent, he can only give advice on what to do in a given situation, and he will definitely pray for every sinner.

There is no need to start confession with "light" sins: breaking the fast, not attending worship, wearing, for example, trousers (for women). God does not need to dig into the daily minutiae. He expects from every confessor renunciation of sin, love and full giving of heart, patience and forgiveness. It is important to confess possible mortal sins: murder, theft, renunciation of faith, adultery.

Important! The priest may appoint a penance. This means a ban for some time on communion, prayer, prostration. This is not a punishment for sins, but a means for the destruction of sin and the purification of the soul.

Memo to those preparing for Holy Communion

Communion must be performed "not in court and not in condemnation", for this it is necessary to fulfill a number of conditions.

Confession

  1. A person must understand that he will not just taste the Blood and Flesh of Christ, but will soon unite with the Creator for his sanctification and cleansing of sins.
  2. The communicant must be completely free from hypocrisy and present the Fear of God, which is the beginning of human wisdom.
  3. The soul of a person should experience peace, malice, enmity and hatred should be alien to it. Only in this state can one approach the Chalice.
  4. It is forbidden to violate church canons, it is necessary to be within the framework of moral life. Only such people are blessed.
  5. Before performing the Sacrament, the absolution of sins is obligatory.
  6. It is necessary to observe a liturgical fast: from 24:00 the night before until the very reception of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, it is forbidden to eat or drink anything. Communion must be taken on an empty stomach. On the days of night services before great holidays, the duration of the liturgical fast should be at least 6 hours. Relief is given only to seriously ill people: it is allowed to take medicines and drink them with a sip of water (but before taking communion, you must notify the priest about this).
  7. It is important to observe marital fasting for several days. But family circumstances should be taken into account so that this fast is not to the detriment of the communicant and his family. During Bright Week, bodily fasting is allowed not to be observed.

In the temple, after reading the prayer "Our Father", the communicant should go to the altar and wait for the priest to take out the Chalice with the Gifts. After the clergy exits the royal doors, you should cross your arms over your chest (put your right hand on your left) and approach the Chalice in turn. The priest needs to pronounce his name given at baptism, and then reverently accept the Body and Blood of Christ, kiss the edge of the Chalice, move to the table where the communicants are given pieces of prosphora and warmth. But it’s still impossible to go home, after the sermon the priest will bring out the Crucifixion, to which you need to kiss your lips.
