The use of automatic speed boxes makes it easier to drive a vehicle. It is necessary to consider the main types of types of boxes (automatic), which are regularly installed on the car.

Types of automatic transmissions

Automatic gearbox or hydraulic automatic (AT) has a reliable technical equipment, thanks to which you can make a trip by activating the "winter", "sport" mode. In the first case, the start starts from the 2nd speed, and in the second, the car accelerates faster, since the power unit starts to work at increased revs... Hydromechanical transmissions can be met with 4, 5, 6 steps. The more the number of steps, the better the dynamics of the stroke.

The robotic gearbox (DSG) attracts attention by the fact that it provides a decent fuel economy in all cycles, lends itself to repair and restoration work. The deceleration can be done manually. DSG box combines the advantages of a machine gun and mechanics. However, the manual transmission is sensitive to the implementation of aggressive driving style. The need for DSG service may be needed after 60,000 km. In particular, it will be necessary to replace the transmission oil.

Variable speed gearbox (CVT). Her distinctive feature from the automatic transmission is that the change speed modes carried out smoothly, without jerking. The start is quick. With this box, it is possible to save on fuel consumption, an increased operating life of the variator is noted.

It should be noted that the preselective type of gearbox can be found on cars Ford, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi. These vehicles are valued for dynamic acceleration and fuel efficiency. BMW model can be equipped with a Tiptronic box (a type of automatic transmission). The peculiarity of this version of the gearbox is that the motorist independently chooses the desired speed, depending on the driving conditions. It is possible to switch the transmission to the automatic mode. This contributes to an increase in the comfort of driving a car.

Thus, gearboxes differ from each other in terms of the amount of fuel spent per kilometer, and the dynamics of travel.

Important! Each of the listed types of speed boxes is demanding on the quality of fuel.

Types of automatic transmissions on modern cars

Initially, cars that have a torque converter gearbox were widespread. Among them stand out:

  • Peugeot;
  • Opel;
  • Mazda.

Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra

In particular, the owners of the Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra car versions note the ease of driving. The steering system on these generations is protected from possible overloads. All thanks to the existing transmission system.

Many crossovers are equipped with a variator:

  • Nissan X-Trail, Qashqai;
  • Toyota RAV4;
  • HondaCR-V;
  • Renault

Also, the variator is found on Audi, Subaru, Mitsubishi. A feature of cars with a variator is an increased engine resource. According to the standard, oil should be added to the variator after 50,000 km. The infinitely variable transmission allows for movement in fast (sporty) and economical mode.

A robotic gearbox is found on car brands such as:

When compared with a classic automatic transmission, the manual transmission weighs less. According to their operational characteristics, the robot is closer to the manual transmission. CVT saves on fuel consumption. Robotic transmissions are available with one clutch or two clutches.

Acceleration of the above machines with manual transmission is smooth and fast. The change of speed modes does not take even a second. In addition, in terms of price, it is more profitable to purchase a car with a robot box than with an automatic box. Thanks to the presence of paddle shifters, you can quickly change the speed.

How to determine the type of automatic transmission?

Whenever buying a used car, a potential car owner should check the vehicle by VIN code... Based on it, everyone gets necessary information about the car. You can determine the type of automatic transmission according to the technical documentation that is attached to the car. Also, a test drive helps.

The identification number is located on non-removable body parts. As a rule, the necessary information is indicated on the engine compartment plate. VIN decoding allows you to find out the country of the car manufacturer, the year of its release. In addition to this, the motorist can find information about whether the vehicle was previously sold, what type of vehicle is available. power unit... The identification number includes 17 characters (letters and numbers). On their basis, you can get detailed information about the origin of the car.

Checking a car by identification number is a great opportunity to find out if the vehicle was hijacked. It should be noted that the car identifier can be present not only on foreign cars, but also on domestic cars.

Determining the type of automatic transmission by car make is one of the services that can be provided in a specialized auto center. Especially for this, the customer who has asked for help must provide the following information about his car:

  • brand;
  • year of issue;
  • engine capacity.

Service specialists verify all this data with the data of the available specially designed tables that reflect the characteristics vehicle... After finding a match, the driver is provided with the information of interest to him on the gearbox. Thus, it is not difficult to determine the automatic transmission (its type).

All cars have a unique code, or VIN number. This number is used often, and every car owner knows about its availability.

But few people know how to find out the complete set of a car by VIN for free and what information about the car can be encrypted in 17 characters.

What is a VIN number?

Assign to every new car unique number started long ago, back in 1980. The number can use numbers from 0 to 9 and almost all letters of the English alphabet.

Only a few letters - O, Q and I - are not used, as they can be easily confused with numbers in printed form.

What information is contained in the VIN number

  1. The first three digits contain geographic information, primarily the country of manufacture of the vehicle. For this reason, the first figures for most cars within the country are the same.
  2. Features of the production of the company that released the car. It all depends on the specific features and the company itself. For example, for small-sized factories producing small-scale batches of models up to 500 pieces, the third character in the number should be the number "9".
  3. In the ninth place in the account, in some cases, a check digit is put, with which you can determine whether the VIN number of the car has been changed in some way. Depending on the sum of the digits and some other values, this information can be checked.
  4. Other numbers contain, among other things, information about the year of manufacture of the car and some of its technical characteristics. It is this moment that is most important for motorists, since with the help of these numbers the equipment of the car can be checked by the wine code.

It is customary to use the check digit only for manufacturers from the United States and China, but Japanese brands and car companies from Europe reject this practice.

For such cars, in ninth place is either a random number, or it means another Additional information about cars.

What useful information does the VIN number contain?

At the moment, a complete set of cars according to the wine code can be checked for free in various places: on sites and services on the Internet that offer checks on a free basis. However, you first need to clarify what kind of information you can find there.

Information that can be found out:

  1. Exact date release of the car.
  2. The name of the brand and model of the machine, and the lineup.
  3. Body type - sedan, station wagon, hatchback and further down the list.
  4. Engine type, power and volume.
  5. Car version (production series).
  6. Drive type: front, rear, full.
  7. Transmission type and number of gears.
  8. Exhaust toxicity in accordance with international standards (4, 5 toxicity class).
  9. Air conditioning system (air conditioning or climate control, single-zone or dual-zone).
  10. The country for which the car was produced (in the form of an alphabetic code, for example "RU").
  11. The color and type of painting of the car outside, as well as the type of upholstery.

Why is it needed

As seen, useful information you can get quite a lot. When buying a car from hands, for example, such a check allows you to find out whether the owner is really selling what was produced, or the car has undergone significant changes or does not correspond at all to the one declared by the manufacturer.

In this case, it is better to either refuse the purchase altogether, or look for the reasons for the reality disagreement with the VIN number and check everything doubly carefully.

The ability to find out the complete set of any car by its VIN code is offered on a large number of online services.

  1. Online service on the Elcats.ru website.

Step one - choose a car manufacturer from the list on the main page of the site:

Step two - enter the VIN number of the car. The service also offers to further refine the search area by choosing specific model car, but in 99% of cases it does not make any sense, the information is already displayed in full:

Step three - after entering the number, a window appears with enough detailed characteristics car:

Perhaps this service is the best answer to the question of how to find out the complete set of a car by VIN for free. However, taking into account possible errors and inaccuracies, it is better to check the data from at least two sources.

  1. Online service vinformer.su.

After entering the VIN number, this service offers to enter a captcha in order to protect against robots, and then specify the type of engine in the checked car.

The second step, among other things, can be skipped, after which a table will appear with sufficiently detailed information about the car, conveniently presented point by point and arranged on the shelves.

For some machines, for some reason, the service shows only part of the information, in which case you can try using other free tools.

Moreover, this service offers only three free checks... In addition, it is rarely necessary to check more cars at a time.

  1. Online service pogazam.ru.

This service allows you to immediately enter the VIN number of the car and find out all the basic details about a particular vehicle.

However, detailed information with an exact list of options in a specific configuration is not displayed here.

How to find out the complete set of a car by vin for free and with a guarantee

If you need guaranteed accurate information about a car by its VIN number, you can go in two more ways:

  1. Find out if the manufacturer's official website offers verification of their machines by code. For example, the automaker Kia has such a function and is located at https://www.kia.ru/service/decoding_vin/.
  2. Check on the official website of the traffic police - https://www.gibdd.ru/check/auto/.

In the second case, only general information about the car will be reported: year of manufacture, engine type, and so on.

However, at the same time, other information that is necessary in transactions for the sale and purchase of a car is checked: information about the presence of a car on the wanted list, about old statements and deregistration, about accidents and the presence of restrictions on the car.

Such a comprehensive check will be enough to learn about the car almost all of its history and characteristics, and then make right choice at the time of buying.

Is it possible to determine the car model by VIN number

Continuing the cycle of materials on decoding the VIN code, we will consider the question of whether it is possible to determine the model of a car by the VIN number and how to do it. Who needs it? First of all, for those who buy a used car and want to check whether the model corresponds to the body number of the one that they actually want to sell you.

There is a need to check if the model by the body number matches the one that they actually want to sell you

Where is the information about the car model

This information, like other descriptive characteristics, is contained in the second section of the code - VDS. The exact sequence of characters for different parameters of different manufacturers As a rule, the vehicle model is marked in the fourth digit, and the general list of parameters looks like this:

  • model line;
  • type of body;
  • motor type;
  • steering wheel position;
  • power supply system and transmission. As you can find out the automatic transmission model by the VIN code - we compare the symbols present with the markings in the table;
  • drive data, etc.

The manufacturer, at its discretion, can indicate another specific parameter of the model in this block. Up to the presence or absence of airbags, the type of belts, interior trim, the number of doors, etc. Sometimes this block can be used to determine the class of the car.

The specification is often indicated in ordinal numbers from 5th to 7th. You can find out the model of the car by the VIN code based on these numbers. A detailed transcript of the specification is available here (in English): https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_(VIN_codes)

The specification is often indicated in ordinal numbers from 5th to 7th.

We choose the manufacturer we need and see what this or that VIN code designation means.

Using the example of an American-assembled Ford, we see that the marking, for example "P4A", indicates that we have Ford model Fiesta sedan S, and the symbols "P31" denote a three-door Ford Focus hatchback. By analogy, we look at other manufacturers.

Note! For a European-assembled Ford, the model and body type are encoded in the 9th and 10th characters, respectively. Take this into account when reading the VIN-code.

VDS control mark - what is it for

The VDS block has another name - "descriptor section". Besides technical parameters and specifications, this section also contains an additional check digit, with which the VIN-code breaks through for authenticity.

This control mark is determined using a special algorithm. All numbers and letters of the VIN-code (which are also translated into a digital equivalent) are multiplied among themselves (except for the 9th character itself). The result is divided by 11. The quotient must correspond to the check digit. In this case, the body number is genuine.

How else can you find out the model

You can accurately identify the model by VIN code by combining the symbol indicating the model range and the designation of the model year. Which is encrypted, as we have already said, with the 10th digit in the order of the number. In some cases model year by VIN, in general, may be absent. For example, such popular automakers as Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota skip this point.

The WMI information for defining the model will also be helpful, since the second character in this section represents the manufacturer's name.

Automatic services for checking VIN-code

The automatic service of the State Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation helps to "break through" the number of the body. It also shows whether any penalties have been imposed on the identified vehicle, whether it is in pledge or theft.

The automatic service of the State Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation helps to "break through" the body number

There are also special applications for Android and Apple, where the decoding of the body number is given by transferring a code or downloading a photo. In addition, there are many other free services that provide information about technical characteristics auto.

For an additional fee, you can find out how many owners the car had, whether the car was involved in an accident, when it underwent technical inspections and what kind of work was carried out in this case. For North American cars, the most popular services are Carfax and Autochek, there are also a number of universal services for all car manufacturers, regardless of their location.

Complete set according to the VIN-code. How to find out the complete set by VIN-code

How to buy a car?

Hello dear readers of the blog Kak-kupit-auto.ru. Today our topic is equipment according to the VIN code, how to find out the equipment of a car by vin, how to find out the equipment in which the car was released from the factory. Finding out the complete set by VIN code is not an easy task, since this information is not collected anywhere in one place. However, we will try to figure out how to find out the complete set of the car by the VIN code.

The question of where is the VIN number on the car and in the documents, we have already discussed with you.

When buying a used car, be sure to check that all VIN codes on the car correspond to the one indicated in the Title.

So, let's try to find out the complete set by VIN.

How to find out the complete set of the car?

Unfortunately, there is NO single database of trim levels for VIN codes, so information has to be collected from different sources, literally bit by bit. I was lucky, and before buying my Ford Focus II, while studying the prices of spare parts in the Exist online store, I came across the Elcats.ru auto parts catalog. This catalog deciphers the equipment by VIN in more detail, it fully deciphers the equipment of this particular car, down to which airbags are installed on it, which brake system what interior color, etc.

But, as it turned out, such a detailed decoding in this catalog is valid only for cars of three brands: Ford, Volkswagen and Skoda, and as for the rest of the models, the decoding for them is very scarce.

So, find out the complete set by VIN for Ford cars, Volkswagen and Skoda are available on the spare parts portal Elcats.ru. Choosing a brand Ford, and then ...

drive the VIN number into the appropriate field and click "Search":

As you can see, a small decoding of the complete set by VIN number has appeared, but that's not all. On the right there is a link "Show a list of options", click on it.

A detailed list of options opens, which contains complete information on all vehicle equipment options.

As mentioned above, such a detailed decoding on this site works only for cars of the brands Ford, Volkswagen, Skoda. For example, for Volkswagen, the decryption looks like this:

There are similar services for other car brands. You will find links to them just below, they work on the same principle, so you can easily figure them out on your own.

VIN grade

Theoretically, the opportunity to find out the complete set by VIN should be available for official dealers, so it makes sense to refer to them. But it is problematic to do this, because you have to go to the dealer, negotiate with him, but still it is not a fact that decryption is available to him and he will agree to deal with this issue for free. And I would also like to find out the complete set via the Internet without leaving home.

By the way, on the website carinfo.kiev.ua, you can find out the VIN configuration for any car brand. At least I managed to decipher several VINs of different brands. Be sure to try it, you should succeed.

Added on January 2, 2017 On this forum you can ask to decrypt the VIN-code of vehicles concern VAG(Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat). First you need to register on the forum, and in a couple of days the author of the topic will send an answer to your question - a complete detailed decoding of the vehicle configuration.

Finding out the country of assembly using the VIN code can be quite problematic. Different services can show different values, but the vinformer.su service shows not only the build country, but even the manufacturer's address, so I decided to consider this source reliable))

However, the most reliable way to find out the country of car assembly is to look at the vehicle title. The first page indicates the manufacturer, the country of assembly (production) and the customs that issued the TCP. Let me remind you that if the TCP was issued by the customs, this alone means that the car was imported into the Russian Federation from abroad and was not assembled here. Naturally, all this is reliable only if the TCP is the original.

Friends! This concludes my today's story and I want to ask you: if you know of other reliable services for checking a car by VIN-code, write about it in the comments. And let's discuss these services, do they provide correct information?

That's all, dear friends! If the article came in handy for you, like it, repost it, share it with your friends, subscribe to us on social networks. And I wish you to easily, quickly and most importantly find out the complete set of the car by its VIN number and as a result buy exactly the car you dreamed of!

To the drive wheels, while the gears are switched without the participation of the driver.

All rubbing and loaded automatic transmission elements need high-quality lubrication, and ATF is also a working fluid. Correctly selected transmission oil will not only increase the service life of the automatic transmission, but also help to avoid breakdowns and failures in this unit.

It is important to understand that there are many different types and automatic transmission modifications. In this article, we will talk about how to choose the right ATF transmission fluid for automatic transmissions by brand or by the wine code of the car.

How to choose oil in automatic transmission by wine code

When choosing transmission oil for an automatic transmission, you need to know the type of gearbox, the year of manufacture of the vehicle, as well as a number of characteristics that the transmission fluid must have according to the tolerances specified by the automaker in the manual for this car.

Manufacturers themselves, as a rule, indicate information about the automatic transmission on the gearbox itself, or on the car body in the form of plates with a set of numbers and letters. This information is called VIN - code (VIN code). It is on him that the car owner can find out comprehensive information about the car, as well as about the type of transmission installed on it.

If the plate with the markings on the transmission itself is absent or for some reason has become unusable, the inscription on it is unreadable, etc., then the information regarding the gearbox can be found by the engine number or by the identification number of this vehicle.

Vin is the official vehicle identification number assigned by the manufacturer and consisting of a unique number (usually 17 characters). Using this number, the car owner can find out all the information about his car and, on the basis of this, determine the model of the automatic transmission.

Based on the information received, the car owner not only gets the opportunity to select a transmission fluid, but also receive information about how much oil is needed for complete replacement ATP, which to use, etc.

Selection of oil for automatic transmission by car make

The service book of any vehicle contains all the necessary information related to its maintenance and operation. In particular, there should be recommendations for the selection transmission fluid for the automatic transmission of this vehicle.

There are also special catalogs from manufacturers of lubricating fluids that allow you to determine the type of lubricant by car make.

Each box requires oil with a certain type of viscosity and necessary package additives. The fluid must have the characteristics that were originally laid down by the manufacturer when designing this transmission.

ATF transmission fluid is synthetic, semi-synthetic, etc. As for the ATF viscosity index, there are:

  • summer gear oil;
  • summer gear oil for special applications;
  • winter gear oil with different operating temperatures;
  • multigrade gear oil;

ATF types for automatic transmissions and transmission fluid specifications:

  • Class "A" - transmission fluid from General Motors, designed for use in automatic transmission passenger cars(now practically not used);
  • Dexron class "B" is one of the most common transmission fluids intended for use in automatic transmissions of cars manufactured by General Motors. Dexron II - IV class fluids are the latest GM oil specifications and meet all requirements; they are used in almost all 4-6 speed automatic transmissions;
  • Class "F" - transmission fluid from the manufacturer Ford, slightly different in composition from transmission Dexron liquids... The coefficient of friction of a class "F" fluid increases with decreasing sliding speed.

In addition to the above ATF specifications for automatic transmissions, factory tolerances are also used (for example, ATF Toyota etc.). Cars manufactured for European countries are often equipped with automatic transmissions of the ZF type,. General Motors class transmission fluid is poured into such boxes.

In the automatic transmissions of Audi, BMW and Mercedes of the last years of production, only synthetic oil... There are also transmission fluids (OEM) made to order from automotive brands.

Mixing different types of automatic transmission fluids when changing them

First of all, any automatic transmission fluid must have the following basic properties:

  • oxidation stability;
  • low foaming coefficient;
  • stable temperature indicators;
  • ability to transmit high torque.

Please note, regardless of the model, car brand and type of automatic transmission,. For quick identification, manufacturers of automatic transmission fluids use special dyes that do not affect technical properties and characteristics.

If it is not possible to determine exactly what kind of fluid is poured into the gearbox, it is recommended to completely replace it, which will avoid loss of properties and precipitation of additives.

If the automatic transmission fluid is not suitable or mixing has occurred, the main malfunctions resulting from the mixing of transmission fluids different types:

  • the occurrence of extraneous noise during the operation of the automatic transmission;
  • appearance;
  • fast (when mixing transmission fluids of different characteristics, their viscosity characteristics are lost);
  • when the temperature drops to cold, tight movement of the automatic transmission selector lever when the D mode is turned on, etc.;
  • or does not work, the gears do not turn on, which may indicate a complete failure of the box;

Quality transmission fluids must include an extensive package of special additives, thanks to which they will meet the latest requirements of the transmission manufacturer. More precisely:

  • optimal viscosity coefficient (this indicator determines the pressure in the system, the formation of a stable oil film on rubbing parts, which prevents the appearance of scoring and reduces their wear);
  • oxidation stability. During the operation of the automatic transmission in the transmission fluid under the influence of various factors (temperature, vibration, friction, interaction with air, ingress of metal microparticles, etc.), the processes of pollution and oxidation occur.

As a result of these processes, the liquid loses its properties. The higher the resistance of a particular transmission fluid to oxidation, the longer its service life without loss of properties and characteristics.

What is the bottom line

As you can see, if you have the necessary information, it is not difficult to choose the oil in the automatic transmission yourself. The main thing is to adhere to the recommendations of the car manufacturer and / or automatic transmission.

If the owner does not have such information, then it is optimal to use only original oil, not analogs. It is also possible to select a lubricant, taking into account the recommendations of specialized specialists.

Finally, we note that a high-quality transmission fluid that meets all standards and characteristics in relation to a particular transmission will allow the box to work in optimal modes and significantly increase.

    Identification number location

    The VIN code, or as it is also called the body number, must be written in the data sheet and be identical to the number on the body. Typically, the number is located on non-removable parts of the body (front pillar) and those places where the chance of damage to the car in an accident is minimal.

    What information does the decoding of the VIN code of the car give?

    • Country of origin.
    • Year of issue.
    • Engine and body type.
    • What equipment should be present when buying a car.
    • General characteristics car.
    • Information about the vehicle, its mileage, its early sales and other similar data.

    Decryption stages

    As a rule, the identification number has 17 characters, and it consists of 3 mandatory parts:

    • WMI - contains 3 characters.
    • VDS - contains 6 characters.
    • VIS - contains 8 characters.

    From the first part of WMI just starts checking the car by vin. These symbols identify the car manufacturer, which are assigned to a specific country. The first character denotes its geographic area, and can be either a number or a letter, depending on the country of manufacture. For example, numbers from 1 to 5 would indicate the manufacturer in North America; from 6 to 7 - the countries of Oceania; from 8 to 9, and also 0 - the manufacturer is South America. The letters S to Z are cars of European origin, J to R are of Asian origin, A to H are imported from Africa.

    The first part of the vin check makes it possible to find out where the car was brought from.

    Second part referred to as descriptive and should generally be 6 characters long. It often happens that the car manufacturer does not fill in all 6 characters, but according to the rules, all 6 characters must be present in the car. Therefore, if there are only 4 or 5 characters in this part of the code, then the remaining ones are simply filled with zeros and must be on the right side. The descriptive part of the VIN decoding allows you to determine the car model and its main characteristics. The numbers starting with 4 and ending with 8 should tell about the type car engine, its series and model, as well as have data on the type of body.

    AND third, the final part of the VIN decoding is VIS, which consists of 8 characters. It is worth knowing that the last 4 characters must be present without fail. This is the part of the decryption in which you can find out the year of manufacture of the vehicle, data on the assembly plant, model year.

    All three parts are necessary when decoding the body identification number, and make it clear to the future owner about the origin and further history of the car.

    Self-checking VIN code

    To check the VIN code, it is not necessary to contact the appropriate authorities and send a request to them.

    Knowing the identification number of the body, enter it in the check form on our website, and you will receive complete information about a specific car. This is a necessary procedure and is recommended to be carried out before buying a car. It will take a little time, but it will save you from further troubles.

    Most car manufacturers indicate information about the gearbox model on special plates that can be found on the gearbox itself or on the body. Usually a record is a seemingly meaningless set of numbers and letters, but this information will be enough to order spare parts if you contact a sales consultant.

    If there is no such plate (it may be lost or the inscriptions are erased), then you should try to find the automatic transmission by the number of the body, engine and year of manufacture, or by the vin number, if available.

    Vin is the vehicle identification number and can be found in the vehicle title or STS. This is a unique seventeen-digit number that is assigned to each vehicle from manufacturers that support this standard... By the vin number, you can find out the most detailed information about the car, when it was produced and what was equipped at the factory. Vin numbers are mainly used by car manufacturers in Europe and North America.

    If you understand the nomenclature and designations, you can accurately determine the model of the box and what it is.

    Consider, for example, the A140L automatic transmission produced by Toyota, developed for the Toyota Camry car.

    A140L A - automatic transmission 1 - series 4 - number of gears 0 - gear ratio or capacity D - s overdrive mode L - with blocking clutch E - ECT with blocking clutch H, F - 4WD with blocking clutch

    Modern automatic transmissions are very different in design and principles of operation, the features of the operation of the gearbox and the behavior of the car strongly depend on the type of box. Let's consider the main ones.

    Hydraulic automatic transmission

    The classical scheme for the implementation of the automatic transmission. Torque is transmitted to the wheels through pressure working fluid(transmission oil), that is, they are not mechanically connected in any way.

    Today, such a scheme is still used very actively, however, it, of course, has undergone improvements. Electronic control units allow such gearboxes to implement sport, winter, economy mode and even manual gearshift mode. Moreover, they are able to adapt to the driving behavior of the driver.

    The gear selector on hydraulic transmissions is familiar and straightforward.

    P - parking mode, the box is locked;

    N - neutral gear, you can transport a car on it;

    R - reverse mode;

    L - movement in first gear;

    S - movement to the second gear;

    Sport - sport mode of operation, gears are switched at higher revs;

    Snow - the car will move away from second gear, at a higher torque, which will reduce slippage and more easily overcome snow and ice obstacles;

    Eco - saving mode, implemented in different ways by different car companies;

    Depending on the way the control is implemented, the boxes are divided into hydraulic and electro-hydraulic. In hydraulic automatic transmissions, gear shifting is carried out using pressure by a centrifugal input shaft speed controller. In electro-hydraulic automatic transmissions, the gears are switched by an electrical signal from the control unit, which activates the hydraulic elements.

    Compared with mechanical gearboxes, the automatic requires more fuel, but the difference is not so critical. You have to pay for comfort.

    Manual gear shifting on automatic transmissions, better known as Tiptronic, appeared relatively recently.

    Manual gear shifting on automatic transmission - Tiptronic

    The first successful developments belong to Audi specialists. There are similar options from BMW and Volvo. Tiptronic does not fully provide manual control Checkpoint, the electronic unit control still does its job and does not allow the driver to make mistakes.

    The advantages of this type of checkpoint include:

    • the ability to work with various engines(gasoline, diesel fuel);
    • availability of additional modes;
    • comfort and reliability (of course, if the box model itself is made normally);
    • the box can switch to the maximum engine power;
    • there is no rollback when starting to move from a place on the rise;
    • it is impossible to start the engine in gear, which gives additional safety;
    • electronic control systems and a torque converter protect the engine well from driver errors, extending its resource.

    The disadvantages include:

    • increased fuel consumption;
    • some loss of power from the engine due to design features and the method of transmission of the moment;
    • the ability to start the engine only with the starter (you cannot start from the "pusher");

    • higher cost compared to mechanical box gear;
    • the acceleration dynamics of some automatic transmission models leaves much to be desired (due to incorrect settings and manufacturers' calculations, this mainly concerns the most budgetary car models);
    • the need to monitor the condition and level of the oil. Without the proper oil level, the automatic transmission simply won't work.

    Robotic manual transmission

    In fact, this is a manual transmission, but the control of the clutch and gear shifting is entrusted to the mechanisms. The expense for such boxes is even less than for manual transmissions. These boxes are lightweight, cheap and simple to fill. But not everything is so good - robots are designed only for a calm and smooth ride. When styled aggressively, this box kicks like an outraged horse and doesn't feel comfortable at all. Another disadvantage is not very good reliability.

    Partially these problems were solved with the help of a double clutch. One shifted even gears, the other odd. This affected the operation of the checkpoint for the better, shifting became much softer. But the cost of such checkpoints is still too high.

    The robot control lever can look like a hydraulic automatic transmission control lever or resemble a joystick.

    R - reverse mode;

    N - neutral gear;

    M - switchings are carried out by the robot sequentially;

    + - manual gear shifting to high gear;

    - - manual gear shifting down.

    The advantages of this transmission include:

    • fast time switching and excellent dynamics;
    • the cost of a robot is cheaper than a traditional automatic transmission;
    • low weight of the structure;
    • fuel economy that surpasses even manual transmission;
    • there is no particular need for oil level control, as with manual transmissions.

    By cons

    • low slip resistance;
    • delay in gear shifting;
    • rollback at the beginning of the movement;
    • when stopping, it is required to switch to neutral;
    • the complexity of the repair;
    • uncomfortable shifting during aggressive driving due to jerks and jerks when changing gears.

    Variable speed gearbox (CVT)

    The variator is generally a unique development. No discs and gears with gear ratios, only a belt that can smoothly change the torque, moving between two tapered pulleys. Gears do not change, the car does not twitch, smoothly and uniformly picks up speed.

    This scheme allows you to drive the same car in completely different modes: from sporty to super-efficient.

    Black Audi - RS5 with Variable Speed Transmission (CVT)

    The CVT control lever is similar to the hydraulic automatic transmission lever, except for the absence of a downshift mode. The variator selector is specially made similar so that car owners do not have a sense of mistrust in everything new. On modern CVTs, there are even modes that simulate gear shifting and it is possible to leave the car on any of them.

    The pluses include:

    • very smooth acceleration and braking, no jerks, jerks, jerks, maximum comfort;
    • profitability compared to a traditional automatic machine;
    • simple design, a minimum of parts and, accordingly, what may fail;
    • if necessary, the car will accelerate very dynamically. The fastest time to reach the desired moment is provided, there is no pause for switching gears;
    • the engine always works in optimal mode, power losses are minimal, efficiency is increased.

    The disadvantages include:

    • a small resource (although in modern versions everything seems to be fine);
    • unusual monotony of the engine, exhausting the driver (decided in new generations of variators);

    • the complexity of the repair (only in Russia, here it has not yet been mastered);
    • the complexity of the electronics;
    • high price of consumable transmission fluid and belt (replacement every 50-100 thousand kilometers);
    • high box price;
    • very fast wear when slipping;
    • reverse gear and starting off require additional mechanisms;
    • very fast belt wear on powerful engines;
    • there are nuances in measuring the oil level (variators are even more than hydraulic automatic transmission depend on the sufficient oil level).
